An Evening with Sam Heughan

Every in person ticket includes a signed Hardback copy of Waypoints .  If you aren't able to join Sam in person, this tour will be live streamed, and you will be able to purchase a SIGNED copy of Waypoints as well as a unique ticket to the stream.

SIGNED copies of The Clanlands Almanac are also available to purchase here .

Spend a glorious evening with award-winning actor and  Sunday Times  and  New York Times  bestselling author of  Clanlands  and  The Clanlands Almanac , Sam Heughan, as he recounts his journey of self-discovery along the West Highland Way.

To celebrate the publication of his first full memoir,  Waypoints , Sam will be live in conversation, exploring his Scottish heritage and reflecting on the personal waypoints that define him. Touching on his career in theatre, television, and film, Sam will consider his life of fascinating contrasts: a Hollywood star with deep roots in rural Scotland, who is both outgoing and content in his own company.

Throughout the evening, as Sam charts his journey through the stunning Highland wilderness, he’ll also map out the moments that shaped his views, dreams and ambition, family, friendships, love, and life.

Intimate, thoughtful and fascinating, don’t miss the opportunity to join Sam as he presents a deeply personal love letter to the wild Scottish landscape that means so much to him. This promises to be a charming, funny, wise (well, to a degree), and searching insight into the world through his eyes. Whether you’re already a fan or new to Heughan and his work, there will be something for everyone to relate to on this special journey through the Highlands of Scotland.

This event is now available to watch on demand until 31st October 2022.

Outlander star to promote new book in Edinburgh

' src=

Outlander star Sam Heughan will be in Edinburgh on Sunday to promote his new book Waypoints . A memoir, the book takes readers on a dual journey into the Scottish Highlands and through the actor’s life. UK publisher Radar described the book as “a love letter to the wild Scottish landscape that means so much to Sam.”

As he walks the West Highland way, Heughan reflects on the experiences that have shaped his life so far. Waypoints is the result of these reflections. About the journey, the actor said: “I needed to challenge myself and spend more time in my own company, away from the distractions of everyday life. And for me there’s no better place to reflect than in the wild Scottish Highlands.”

Heughan will be live in conversation at McEwan Hall in Edinburgh on October 23, ahead of the book’s release on the 25th. The event, styled as an evening with the award-winning actor, promises to be “a glorious evening” according to event organiser Fane Productions. Heughan is expected to speak about his career spanning theatre, film and TV, his Scottish roots, the waypoints that have defined his life, and his hopes and plans for the future.

The Edinburgh event is the first of two UK stops on the Waypoints book tour. While the Edinburgh date is sold out, tickets are still available for the second date at the Barbican Centre in London on October 24. Those who are unable to attend the event in person needn’t despair: the London event will be streamed live all over the world and signed copies will be available to purchase online.

Outlander star Sam Heughan has shared his love for Edinburgh during his book tour for his first ever memoir, Waypoints.

Sam was at the University of Edinburgh's McEwan Hall this weekend to celebrate the release of his first ever book dedicated to his life. The actor met fans and answered all their burning questions alongside host Cameron McNeish.

As well as his love for the city's beauty, the actor also confirmed his most hated job in the city - as a poster boy during the Edinburgh Festival.

Sam was asked a question by a fan about the city of Edinburgh , and the Scottish hunk was happy to delve into his love for the capital. Sam said: "It's an incredible city, and I think I was the right age to start exploring the winds and the closes of Edinburgh.

"These little alleyways off the Royal Mile, there's so much history here, it's tangible and you can really feel it. I think that really excited me, and then also, the theatre scene here, the festival!

"I was a teenager and I really was so excited by it all. I started in theatre, I began theatre by visiting the Lyceum, which was just around the corner.

"I even worked during the festival as a sort of poster boy! I used to put up each poster of all the shows that were on at the festival, and I truly did hate that job!"

Sam went to school in Edinburgh at both Steiner's and James Gillespie's.

Sam's passionate rant about his love for Edinburgh was posted on social media with the caption: "@SamHeughan talks about his love for Edinburgh #Outlander #Waypoints." Many fans of the star took to the Twitter replies to share their excitement at his love for the city.

One Twitter user said: "It feels like home!! He so relaxed and so excited!! Love his enthusiasm! Fantastic!!"

Another wrote: "I love how strongly his accent comes out when he's among Scots."

And a third said: "It’s fun to hear his thrill in exploring the city, and his hand movements feeling it’s way through his story. Thanks for sharing this clip!"

One noted: "He’s so passionate and home turf happy. Such a great pleasure to watch, thanks for sharing."

Sam's newest memoir, Waypoints, will be officially released on Tuesday October 25 at all bookstores nationwide and online.

Outlander - Season 6 - Sam Heughan as Jamie and Caitriona Balfe as Claire.

“ Outlander ” stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe have undeniable chemistry in their roles as the series’ romantic leads Jamie and Claire, giving viewers six seasons of passion and romance — even when they were separated by centuries of time.

In an exclusive excerpt from Heughan’s new memoir “Waypoints: My Scottish Journey,” the actor details his powerful first encounter with Balfe at a casting panel.

“Despite their enduring love, the two characters can be quite antagonistic in their relationship. In the heat of that moment, born from love and frustration, we literally began tearing at each other until the director called time on us. It was intense, physically and emotionally. It left us breathless. She was wrapped in my arms and I think we both know that Jamie and Claire had just come into existence together,” Heughan writes.

Heughan also mentions how he became protective of Balfe as “Outlander” began to shoot, noting this was a breakout role for her as an actor.

“It was a big leap for her. I felt that I needed to be protective towards her, as supportive as Jamie is with Claire. In some ways, it seems as if that dynamic developed between us as actors and then went on to amplify and be explored in front of the cameras,” Heughan says.

The actor also shares in his memoir his close relationship with “Outlander” author Diana Gabaldon, teasing that he’s been informed how the story of Jamie and Claire ends.

Listen to the full audio clip from Heughan’s “Waypoints” below:

Set over the course of a solo six-day, 100-mile journey deep into the Scottish Highlands, “Waypoints” offers an intimate journey of self-discovery for the actor. Heughan uncovers personal details about his life, from his fraught relationship with the father who abandoned his family as a boy to drama school rejections, disastrous “big break” auditions, and disordered eating patterns triggered by a demand to meet unhealthy expectations surrounding a leading actor’s physique.

The memoir also features dozens of never before seen photos from Heughan’s life, from his early adolescence to hiking through the highlands to “Outlander” behind-the-scenes shots.

“Waypoints” releases on October 25.

Edinburgh's Old Town is part of a  UNESCO World Heritage Site  (together with the New Town on the north side of the city centre) and the buildings you’ll see remain largely unchanged from how they would have looked centuries ago.

The Old Town is home to three filming locations from  Outlander . Look out for these places as you wander up the Royal Mile:

  • Bakehouse Close – this filming location is where Claire and Jamie are reunited after 20 years apart.
  • Tweeddale Court – this historic street becomes the 18th century market where Claire meets Fergus again.
  • Signet Library – the interior of this beautiful building doubles as the Governor’s mansion in Jamaica.

If you’re looking for a memorable souvenir pop into  Hamilton & Young Jewellery Designers , also on the Royal Mile, to browse Celtic and  Outlander  inspired items.

In 1745 Bonnie Prince Charlie visited the palace on his journey south. Its elaborate courtyard fountain is said to have flowed with red wine to mark the occasion!

Day 3 Exploring Attractions En Route to Stirling

Travel from Edinburgh or Linlithgow to Stirling, stopping at two beautiful stately homes and a fortress castle as you go.

Hopetoun House South Queensferry

sam heughan book tour 2022

Hopetoun House

Dating from the 17th century, Hopetoun House near South Queensferry is a beautiful stately home surrounded by a vast, 6,500 acre estate.

Various parts of the house and grounds have played roles in  Outlander :

  • The Duke of Sandringham’s stately home (S1)
  • The spare room in Jamie and Claire's Paris apartment (S2)
  • The Hawkins Estate (S2)
  • The backdrop for Parisian streets (S2)
  • The stables at Helwater and the exterior of Ellesmere (S3)

Another key filming location on the Hopetoun Estate is Midhope Castle, which features as the exterior of Jamie’s beloved Lallybroch.

While no filming took place inside the castle (it's derelict inside) the exterior is instantly recognisable. Please note, Midhope is located on a private part of the Hopetoun Estate and access is restricted. If you want to visit, you need to purchase a vehicle permit from the nearby Hopetoun Farm Shop.

Find out more about  visiting Midhope Castle .

Blackness Castle Bo'ness

Blackness Castle

Stop for a visit at Blackness Castle, a 15th century fortress on the banks of the Firth of Forth.

In  Outlander  the castle features as Black Jack Randall’s headquarters in Fort William. Its internal courtyard is shown in the heart-wrenching scenes from Jamie’s incarceration.

Callendar House Falkirk

Callendar House

Stop for an afternoon visit at another grand stately home – Callendar House in Falkirk. Located within the expansive greenery of Callendar Park, the house dates from the 14th century and has hosted many famous historical figures, including Bonnie Prince Charlie.

In  Outlander  the house’s authentic Georgian kitchen appeared as part of Bellhurst Manor, the home of the Duke of Sandringham.

Day 4 A Day Trip from Stirling

Hop in the car and enjoy a day out from Stirling. Today is the day you’ll visit Doune Castle – otherwise known as Castle Leoch – as well as two other great attractions.

Drummond Castle Gardens Muthill

sam heughan book tour 2022

Drummond Castle Gardens

Drummond Castle itself isn't open to the public.

The beautiful Drummond Castle Gardens is one of Europe's finest formal gardens. In  Outlander  the gardens are shown as the ornate park and orchard of the Palace of Versailles in France.

During your visit look out for the two beautiful copper beech trees which were planted by Queen Victoria in 1842.

Deanston Distillery Doune

sam heughan book tour 2022

Deanston Distillery from the river Teith, Doune, Stirling

Formerly a working cotton mill, Deanston Distillery is now famous for the glorious whisky it produces. Take a tour to find out how whisky is made.

In  Outlander  the historic buildings stand in for Jamie's cousin's wine warehouse on the docks of Le Havre.

Doune Castle Doune

sam heughan book tour 2022

Doune Castle

The Jacobites took the castle from government troops in 1745 and, following the 1746 Battle of Falkirk, government prisoners were held there.

This striking ruin is a key location in the hit TV series  Outlander,  where it stands in for the fictional Castle Leoch, home to Colum MacKenzie and his clan in the 18th century episodes. The castle is also firmly associated with  Monty Python and the Holy Grail  and is still very much a place of "pilgrimage" for  Monty Python  fans.

Day 5 Historic Towns in Fife

Wake up in Stirling before travelling over the Firth of Forth into Fife. Today you’ll visit two beautiful historic towns - Culross and Falkland.

Royal Burgh of Culross Culross

With its cobbled streets and rows of historic cottages, your visit to Culross will feel a little like stepping back in time to the 17th and 18th centuries.

In  Outlander  the Mercat Cross area in the centre of the town becomes the fictional village of Cranesmuir, where Geillis lives, while the garden behind Culross Palace stands in for Claire's herb garden at Castle Leoch.

Falkland Falkland

Explore the historic streets of this picturesque town and visit grand Falkland Palace, which was built in the 1500s and became a favourite country residence for many kings and queens.

In  Outlander , Falkland is one of the first places shown on screen - the town substitutes for 1940s Inverness where Claire and Frank go on their second honeymoon.

Around town you can visit:

  • The Covenanter Hotel, which stands in for the cosy Mrs Baird's Guesthouse.
  • The Bruce Fountain, where the ghost of Jamie looks up at Claire's room.
  • Fayre Earth Gift Shop, which doubles as Farrell's Hardware and Furniture Store.
  • Campbell's Coffee House and Eatery, which becomes Campbell's Coffee Shop in the show.

Day 6 Discovering Highland History

Watch the landscape changing from pastoral lowland scenery to rugged Highland peaks as you travel from Falkland to Inverness, stopping en route to visit a replica 1700s Highland settlement.

Culloden Battlefield Inverness

Culloden Battlefield

Stand on the rugged moorland where the 1746 Battle of Culloden took place and feel the atmosphere of the site where one of the most harrowing battles in British history took place.

Culloden Moor was the site of the Jacobites’ final stand in the Risings, when Bonnie Prince Charlie and his followers, including clans such as the Frasers and MacKenzies, were defeated by the Duke of Cumberland's government troops.

In the  Outlander  novels, the moor is where Jamie fights in the 1746 Battle of Culloden. Pop into the Culloden Battlefield Visitor Centre to discover more about the battle.

Clava Cairns Inverness

Prehistoric Burial Cairns of Bulnuaran of Clava or Clava Cairns

Located just a few minutes’ drive from Culloden Battlefield, the Clava Cairns are said to have provided an inspiration for  Outlander’s  mysterious Craigh na Dun – the standing stones which sweep Claire back in time.

This sacred site was an important Bronze Age burial place. Its grave sites, cairns and standing stones date from around 4,000 years ago.

Make sure and take lots of pictures, but please don't climb on any of the monuments.

Day 7 Exploring Inverness and Loch Ness

Wake up bright and early to get the most of your day in Inverness. Spend the morning exploring the city before heading to Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle.

Inverness Inverness

sam heughan book tour 2022

Inverness Castle

This beautiful Highland city was where Claire and Frank had their second honeymoon in the  Outlander  novels.

Take a walk through the capital of the Highlands, Inverness. Head along the banks of the River Ness and explore the Ness Islands, a series of small wooded islands connected by a footbridge. If you've got a few hours to fill during the day, you could visit the Inverness Botanic Gardens or the Inverness Museum & Art Gallery.

In the evening, you might catch some live folk and traditional music at pubs such as Hootanannay or Gellions Bar, and enjoy a large glass of your favourite tipple. You could also check out some of the city's events at arts and music venues, such as the Ironworks and Eden Court Theatre.

Loch Ness Loch Ness

sam heughan book tour 2022

View of Loch Ness from Urquhart Castle

Loch Ness is the setting of the film  The Water Horse - Legend of the Deep , an enchanting story about its most mysterious inhabitant, the Loch Ness Monster. Ardkinglas House in Argyll was used as the main exterior location in the film.

A trip to Inverness isn’t complete without visiting Loch Ness. This huge expanse of water is an immensely impressive sight – the loch holds more water than all the lakes in England and Wales combined. In the Outlander novels, Claire and Frank take a cruise on the water and in her 18th century life Claire meets the Loch Ness Monster here (referred to as a water horse in the novel). You can still take a cruise on the Loch today, which is a great way to take in the awesome landscape.

Urquhart Castle Loch Ness

sam heughan book tour 2022

Urquhart Castle

On the north west shore of Loch Ness you’ll find the beautiful ruins of Urquhart Castle. The site has been a significant place since around AD 580, when St Columba is said to have visited. There has been evidence of a castle on the site since the 1200s.

It was the first Jacobite Rising of 1689 that marked the end for Urquhart Castle as a working castle and garrison. In 1692, following the end of the first rising, government forces blew up the castle to prevent it falling under Jacobite control in the future. Urquhart Castle has lain in ruins ever since.

Take a tour to learn about the castle’s history and explore the ruins.

Day 8 Driving the Great Glen to Fort William

Admire the views of native Caledonian pine forests, glistening lochs and open moorlands as you drive through the Great Glen on your way from Inverness to Glenfinnan. This is the glen that Claire and Jamie rode through after their wedding in the  Outlander  novels.

Glenfinnan Monument Glenfinnan

Glenfinnan Monument & Visitor Centre

While you’re here, make sure to snap some pictures of the nearby Glenfinnan Viaduct – it’s a famous filming location from the  Harry Potter  movies.

Stretch your legs and breathe in fresh Highland air as you visit the Glenfinnan Monument on the banks of Loch Shiel. Bonnie Prince Charlie raised the Jacobite flag here in August 1745 (beginning the final Jacobite Rising), after arriving on the mainland from the  Outer Hebrides .

Climb the monument for views out across Loch Shiel and pop into the visitor centre to learn more about the 1745 Rising.

Glencoe Glen Coe

sam heughan book tour 2022

The Three Sisters, Glencoe

You don’t need scorching sunshine to get the most from this beautiful place. In many ways Glen Coe is even more striking on an overcast, brooding day, when mist is sweeping down the glen and cloud is lying low on the hills.

Featured in  Outlander’s  opening credits, visiting world-famous Glencoe will be a highlight memory from your trip. Driving through this deep-carved glen feels like you’re entering in a secret part of Scotland. Scenes from  Skyfall  were also filmed here, in the shadow of Buachaille Etive Mor.

Pull into one of the parking places to absorb the atmosphere created by the towering peaks around you before popping into the Glencoe Visitor Centre. You can grab a bite to eat here before browsing the exhibition.

‘Outlander’ Star John Bell Says He Aspires ‘To Be Like’ His Co-Stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe

Sam Heughan announces his official tour of America

Outlander  fans are in for a fantastic treat! Heughan, one of the leads in the hit series, is about to set out on an official tour across the United States.

Heughan recently took to Instagram to share the thrilling news, revealing the official tour dates for what he’s calling “The Summer of Sassenach.”

In his post, he expressed his excitement: “I’m hitting the road and would love to see you. Will be signing bottles, making refreshing cocktails and celebrating the summer of @sassenachspirits!”

The Sassenach Tour will stop at various locations, including Ft Lauderdale, Florida, on July 27, New York City on August 3, and Chicago, Illinois, on August 5. Then, Heughan will go south to Houston, Texas, on August 8 and Austin, Texas, on August 10. The tour’s grand finale is in Los Angeles, California, on August 15.

Heughan also mentioned that he would reveal the specific times and venues later. With that in mind, Outlander fans should stay tuned and start planning their schedules accordingly.

The ‘Outlander’ star releases his new Scottish Gin in the Hamptons

Heughan was recently spotted in the Hamptons, showcasing his latest addition to the liquor world, Sassenach Wild Scottish Gin.

The Outlander star is hardly the first to visit the Hamptons to promote their latest drink.

Mark Wahlberg presented Flecha Azul Tequila in June, while Bryan Cranston mixed up his Dos Hombres mezcal at Kissaki a fortnight later.

Even Neil Patrick Harris had plans to serve drinks at East Hampton’s nearby Sunset Harbor restaurant on Sunday, representing Thomas Ashbourne Craft Spirits.

Over the weekend, those fortunate enough to be present had the pleasure of sampling Heughan’s newly launched gin. This fresh creation joins his previously acclaimed Outlander -inspired premium blended Scotch whisky and El Tequileno tequila, both part of The Sassenach brand.

Speaking to Dan’s Papers , Heughan shared his excitement during the event, stating the merits of his gin.

“This is our first time here, I’ve never spent time here but I want to come back and spend more time — it’s beautiful,” Heughan shared. “Our gin is extremely refreshing, especially in a gin and tonic and in a lot of the cocktails that we are making here today. We just hope people enjoy it.”

Sam Heughan opens up about the inspiration behind his new gin

When he crafted his gin, Heughan drew from his Scottish (and Outlander ) roots . Released on June 15, this gin is the third entry in Heughan’s selection of refined spirits. It’s hailed for capturing Scotland’s lush wilderness’s crisp, balanced, and genuine flavor.

“I wanted to get it right. I wanted to create something that’s a representation of Scotland and where I’m from,” Heughan explained.

Heughan took particular care in the creation process, distilling each botanical separately before combining them. The result is a blend of distinct botanicals sourced from Scotland, where the gin is also produced.

Heughan highlighted one specific ingredient that resonates deeply with his Scottish identity: Heather. This plant, emblematic of Scotland, grows wildly across the nation’s mountains and flowers annually.

Many Scotsmen traditionally incorporate Heather in their attire, wearing it in their hats. Heughan’s inclusion of this ingredient in the gin imbues it with an authentically Scottish essence.

For fans longing for a touch of the Outlander series , Heughan’s gin offers a taste of the wild beauty of Scotland.

Waypoints Audio CD – Unabridged, October 25, 2022

Purchase options and add-ons.

In this intimate journey of self-discovery, Sam Heughan sets out along Scotland's rugged West Highland Way to explore his heritage and reflect on the personal waypoints that define him. The result is a love letter to the wild Scottish landscape that means so much to Sam, full of charming, funny, wise, and searching insights into the world through his eyes.

The nearly 100-mile walk itself is the backdrop for this narrative, which tells the story of Sam's life while exploring his outlook, values, and interests. Sam is a figure of fascinating contrasts: A Hollywood star with deep roots in Scotland, he's both outgoing and content in his own company. He has strong connections with his fans while recognizing the fragility and value of anonymity, and in his global health community My Peak Challenge he has created a network that brings people together as they chase individual goals. In his new book, while charting a path through a stunning wilderness, Sam maps out the moments that shaped his views on dreams and ambition, family, friendships, love, and life.

Waypoints  is a deeply personal journey that reveals as much to Sam about himself as it does to his readers.

'Outlander' 's Sam Heughan Has a Memoir on the Way — See the Cover of 'Waypoints' !

The actor's first memoir depicts his hundred-mile journey through Scotland's West Highland Way

sam heughan book tour 2022

Sam Heughan revealed the cover of his new memoir Waypoints .

The Scottish actor, 42, is best-known for playing Jamie Fraser on Outlander — but he has also already proven that he can write a best-selling book while showcasing his Scottish pride.

Heughan's previous two books , Clanlands: Whisky, Warfare, and a Scottish Adventure Like No Other and The Clanlands Almanac: Seasonal Stories from Scotland , both of which he co-authored with his Outlander costar Graham McTavish, have sold more than 500,000 English-language copies.

Set to release Oct. 25, Heughan's new memoir (appropriately subtitled My Scottish Journey ) follows Heughan on a path of self-discovery as he explores Scotland's West Highland Way. His trek of nearly 100 miles spanned from his home to Ben Nevis, the base of the U.K.'s highest mountain, giving him plenty of opportunity to reflect on his heritage and the moments that have defined his life.

On March 22, Heughan announced his first memoir in an Instagram post. "Along the journey I reflect on stories from my life, with personal insight plus my hopes, dreams and plans for the future," he wrote. "I can't wait to share this personal journey with you."

Never miss a story — sign up for PEOPLE's free daily newsletter to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from juicy celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.

The book's official cover features a rugged Heughan sitting on a tree stump in the Scottish wilderness and outfitted in a flannel and hiking boots that he's accessorized with a map, a notebook, a glass of dark liquor.

"I'm excited to share the cover of my memoir, Waypoints , in which I walk Scotland's dramatic 96-mile West Highland Way and attempt to climb Ben Nevis, the U.K.'s highest peak, whilst I reflect on the personal and defining moments of my life," Heughan told PEOPLE in an exclusive statement. "This cover is special to me as it depicts the Scottish Highlands that have given me so much throughout my career."

"In fact, the photograph was taken on the shores of Loch Lomond, where the journey almost ended," he continues. "I can't wait for you to join me on this adventure. I hope that you will find something in Waypoints to inspire your own journey."

As Heughan accomplishes his own goals of connecting with his heritage and publishing a memoir, his charity organization, My Peak Challenge , aims to bring people together as they chase their individual goals. The organization, which Heughan created in 2015, also promotes physical health and wellness. Those who join the challenge are encouraged to live a healthy life while raising money for cancer research, hunger relief and environmental efforts.

The 320-page memoir will be published by Voracious, a new imprint of Little, Brown and Company that launched in 2019. It is currently available for pre-order on Amazon and Barnes & Noble .

Would love that!

Elizabeth, Cesar Domboy _is_ coming to North Carolina. Don't miss your chance to meet "Fergus" on Fraser's Ridge!

Me too! Why can't they come to comic con NY? :(

Oh my gosh me too!!! But you said this in 2015 I said it in 2020. Chances are not looking up for us. (BOO)

Outlander is one of the best TV show on Starz Channel , thanks to my cable provider spectrum internet for tuning Starz channel.

Does anyone know of an event in Scotland where we can meet the cast? It seems odd that it's based here and yet the convention is in Birmingham, England! It would be great to meet them.

I heard Sam mention, on the Jimmy Kimmel show that he would be in Miami soon. Do you know the dates?

Will Sam Heughan attend New Jersey convention...

Good Morning! I host Thru The Stones www.thruthestones.com It will be held Nov 30, and Dec 1, 2018 in Davenport, Iowa. There is not another Outlander gathering like this anywhere in the world! Ron D. Moore, Ed Speleers, and Terry Dresbach are my celebrity guests this year. My vision of the convention is different in that it is not just a fancon. I want my attendees to go away from my weekend having had a lot of fun and met celebrities, but also having learned something! That is why I have incorporated Outlander trivia and various learning classes into the event. That is why all of my conventions must include a guest or two from the production side of Outlander. Diana Gabaldon, Terry Dresbach, Graham McTavish and Grant O’Rourke have all told us us things that we may not know just by watching the show. I want to learn more about the nuts and bolts and the creation part of Outlander-world rather than just enjoying the good-looking actors! If you come to the convention you will be invited to a private press conference where only a few selected bloggers, writers, and local journalists are included. In order to attend this press conference you only must promise me that an article will be written about the convention and my celebrity guests. In 2016 Grant O’Rourke and Terry Dresbach talked with the press for over an hour and it was a ton of fun! I do hope you consider joining us (I still have a couple dozen tickets left at a quite reasonable price) and if you have any questions please feel free to contact me via the website! Sincerely, Deb

Do you know if they will be coming to Australia one day??

Do we know if Outlander cast will come to Oz Comic Con?

I missed my opportunity in 2018, Wizard World because Sam got stuck in South Africa and Catrione was only going to be there 1 day, and I had DragonCon the following weekend. Please come back to the Chicago area. I may just have to move back to Fayetteville, NC so I can be closer to Fraser's Ridge

San Antonio TX any time soon ???

Céline Dion Makes Surprise Appearance at NHL Draft Amid Health Battle

Amid her battle with stiff person syndrome, céline dion made an unnannounced appearance onstage at the 2024 nhl draft in las vegas..

A new day has come for the National Hockey League and Céline Dion was there to help usher it in.

The singer made a surprise appearance onstage at the first round of NHL Draft in Las Vegas June 28, marking her first event since her documentary I Am: Céline Dion , which chronicles her battle with stiff person syndrome , was released this week.

Wearing a white button-down shirt and cream skirt, the "My Heart Will Go On" made her way to the Sphere stage with her eldest son, René-Charles Angélil , 23, as the audience cheered. The Canadian singer then announced the Montreal Canadiens' fifth overall pick, Russian hockey player  Ivan Demidov , 18.

"I was very happy to be able to announce the selection of the Montreal Canadiens in the first round of the 2024 NHL Draft!" Dion, 56, wrote in French on her Instagram, alongside a pic of herself, Canadiens officials and Demidov posing for pics backage. "Congratulations to Ivan Demidov!"

The "A New Day Has Come" singer added, "Thank you to the Canadiens for inviting me, and to the NHL for taking such good care of my family...we had a lot of fun!"

Dion has made few public appearances since sharing her diagnosis with stiff-person-syndrome , a rare progressive neurological disorder that causes her to have muscle spasms , in December 2022.

Almost a year later, the singer, who has not performed a concert in more than four years, stepped out with René-Charles and her twin sons Nelson Angélil and  Eddy Angélil , 13, at a Canadiens game in Las Vegas, where she lives and had two concert residencies over the past two decades.

This past February, Dion and her kids met another Canadian NHL team, the Edmonton Oilers , also in the Nevada city. The five-time Grammy winner also made a surprise appearance onstage at the 2024 Grammys , where she was also escorted by her eldest son.

René-Charles also accompanied his mom to the New York City premiere of the I Am: Celine Dion documentary June 17, more than a week before it began streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

"For a long time—for so many years—I have felt the love and the support of my fans around the world," Dion exclusively told E! News   at the event . "They helped me to get where I am today."

At the screening, the singer got emotional while sharing a personal message to her fans "Thank you to all of you, from the bottom of my heart, for being part of my journey," she said. "This movie is my love letter to each of you. I hope to see you all again very, very soon."

Read on for more about Dion's health battle...

April 29, 2022

The COVID-19 pandemic had forced Céline Dion   to press pause on her Courage World Tour in 2020 and she was looking forward to getting back on the road in 2022. But that spring the singer said she'd be postponing her return until February 2023  while she continued to deal with a lingering health issue.

A note on her website further explained that she'd been treated for "severe and persistent muscle spasms which are preventing her from performing, and her recovery is taking longer than she hoped."

Dion said in a statement, "I need to be in top shape when I'm on stage. I honestly can't wait, but I'm just not there yet… I'm doing my very best to get back to the level that I need to be so that I can give 100 percent at my shows because that's what you deserve."

Dec. 8, 2022

Dion shared that she had been diagnosed with a "very rare" progressive neurological disorder called stiff-person syndrome, surely the first time that most people had ever heard of it.

"As you know, I've always been an open book," she said in an Instagram video. "I wasn't ready to say anything before, but I'm ready now. I've been dealing with problems with my health for a long time, and it's been really difficult for me to face these challenges and to talk about everything that I've been going through."

She suffered muscle spasms that affected "every aspect" of her daily life, Dion explained, making it difficult to walk sometimes and, saddest of all, it was going to be impossible for her to go back on tour as she'd been planning.

"I'm working hard with my sports medicine therapist every day to build back my strength and my ability to perform again," Dion said. "But I have to admit, it's been a struggle."

According to the National Institutes of Health , symptoms include stiff muscles in the torso, arms, and legs, and greater sensitivity to noise, touch, and emotional distress, all of which can trigger muscle spasms.

April 13, 2023

Who says you can't have some new Céline Dion music when you least expect it?

She had previously recorded five songs for the rom-com Love Again , and the title track dropped ahead of the film's May 5 release.  " I think it's a wonderful feel-good story, and I hope that people will like it, and like the new songs too," stated Dion, who also appeared as herself in the movie starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas  and  Sam Heughan .

Dion already had several signature movie tracks to her name—"Beauty and the Beast," "Because You Loved Me" and the Oscar-winning  Titanic   anthem "My Heart Will Go On"—but somehow she had never been in a movie before. (You can check out her debut in this one on Netflix.)

After a three-month delay, Dion canceled her Courage World Tour entirely through April 2024.

"I'm so sorry to disappoint all of you once again," she wrote on Instagram. "I'm working really hard to build back my strength, but touring can be very difficult even when you're 100 percent. It's not fair to you to keep postponing the shows, and even though it breaks my heart, it's best that we cancel everything now until I'm really ready to be back on stage again."

Oct. 30, 2023

Dion was seen out in a very public place  for the first time since she shared her diagnosis when she caught a Las Vegas Knights hockey game at T-Mobile Arena with her and late husband René Angélil 's three sons, René-Charles , 23, and twins  Eddy and  Nelson , 13.

The Montreal Canadiens shared footage of the family's meet-and-greet in the visiting team's locker room, Dion telling coach Martin St. Louis  (per an English translation) that it had been "an incredible night." She even gave the players a pep talk, advising, "Just stay healthy, strong...do what you do best."

But better yet, according to Canadiens executive  Chantal Machabée , their VIP guest sang "a few notes" for them and it was "an incredible moment."

"She's been through a lot, and to see her like this and smiling and being so happy...it's amazing," the team's VP of hockey communications told People . "I know she has good days and not so good days, but this was a very good day, and it was reassuring."

December 2023

Claudette Dion  gave a rather dire-sounding update on her sister's health battle, telling  7 Jours  (translated from the original French) that the singer—who's the youngest of 14 siblings—didn't have control over her muscles.

"What breaks my heart is that she's always been disciplined," Dion's big sister said. "She's always worked hard. Our mother always told her, 'You're going to do it well, you're going to do it properly.'"

The former judge on Quebec's  L'Étoile des aînés  (a competition for singers 65 and older)   said it was her and Dion's dream that the singer would be able to return to the stage. "In what capacity?" she added. "I don't know."

Jan. 30, 2024

The most promising sign yet that a new day had begun: Dion, who had understandably chosen to take a step back from public life while she battled her condition, was getting ready to give a raw look at what she was going through.

Amazon announced the upcoming documentary  I Am: Céline Dion , directed by Irene Taylor , would reveal the lengths Dion had been going to in hopes she could go back to doing what she loved.

"As the road to resuming my performing career continues, I have realized how much I have missed it, of being able to see my fans," Dion said in a statement, explaining why once more she was opening the door. "During this absence, I decided I wanted to document this part of my life, to try to raise awareness of this little-known condition, to help others who share this diagnosis."

Feb. 4, 2024

The 2024 Grammys may have ended with a few more people believing in the power of love.

As soon as Dion was announced as the night's final presenter (after social media got wind of her presence elsewhere in the building, but still), the audience was on its feet.

The five-time Grammy winner may not have been ready for a spotlight performance on music's biggest night just yet, but she did  sing a few bars with  Sonyaé Elise  backstage, the "Collide" artist sharing the moment on Instagram afterward amid other highlights from her "ICONIC night."

Dion and Taylor Swift also shared an off-stage hug, silencing the immediate uproar over Swift seemingly not paying proper homage to the elder legend onstage when Dion presented her with Album of the Year for Midnights . Not wanting to be an anti-hero on her history-making night, Swift posed for pics with Dion and René-Charles , who had sweetly escorted his mom to the microphone .

Dion also shared some highlights from the icons-only portion of the evening, including photos with Stevie Wonder   and Oprah Winfrey .

Celebrating the momentous night with Dion was her longtime stylist Law Roach , who dressed the star in a flowy Valentino dress and striking overcoat, with Tiffany & Co. diamonds upping the sparkle factor.

"This makes me so much Joy!" he captioned a next-day Instagram snap with Dion . "Not just to dress my Queen again but the fact that she's HEALTHY AND HAPPY! The UNIVERSE always PROTECTS and PROVIDES."

After a March trip to Boston, where she watched the Bruins take on the New York Rangers at TD Garden, Dion gave an update on her health to  Vogue France .

She was still learning to live with stiff-person syndrom, she shared in the article published April 22, but was working her butt off with athletic, physical and vocal therapy five days a week to not let it defeat her.

"The way I see it, I have two choices," Dion said. "Either I train like an athlete and work super hard, or I switch off and it's over, I stay at home, listen to my songs, stand in front of my mirror and sing to myself."
