Night Manta Ray Snorkeling

"The tour starts on a dock 5 minutes or so away from the snorkeling spot. It may be advertised as shorter than other tours, but that's because the other tour starts 30 minutes from the spot. In the end, all tours spend the same time in the water. The closer you start, the less you'll freeze on the way back. Being in a smaller group also allowed us to move where we wanted during the snorkeling, increasing the chances of seeing manta rays and having them swim with us. Bigger groups just stay attached to the boat and have to wait for manta rays to come. Really happy with the experience, I would recommend without hesitation!"

Absolutely amazing company and experience

"You should absolutely take this tour! Tonight was our first time doing a manta ray night snorkel tour. There are so many companies it's hard to pick. My husband and our friends and I booked with Eka Canoe Adventures. I am so glad we chose this company! We got to take a large double-hull canoe and Kai and Marc were amazing guides! They were super helpful, and fun, had so many interesting facts about the rays and were so entertaining. Then the Manta rays!!! This was one of the coolest things we have ever done! We saw 3 rays throughout our time and they came right under us and did flips! We will definitely be coming back!"

Great trip!

"My family had a great time. The captain and Kai were amazing. My son was nervous but Kai made him feel comfortable enough to get in the water and he enjoyed the experience. Definitely a must do on the big island. I highly recommend Eka Canoe Adventures for the manta ray night snorkel. The smaller boat makes it more personal. Would book again!"

Exceeded my expectations!

"I was questioning the canoe but it made the trip! We were near other boats and guides and our guides at Eka knew so much more. I feel like we hit the jackpot with Eka. The mantas come within inches of your face, etc. they are so happy and playful and seem to love us tourists and the fact that we are there. Safety was important to the guides as well- excellent precautions and care were taken for each guest- really took the stress off of nervous people. This tour exceeded my expectations in every way!!"

Absolutely Spectacular

"It is hard to describe this experience! It is beyond incredible! The Manta Rays were so much larger than expected. They truly came centimeters from your face and when I went there were 10 to 15 rays swimming around at one time. You feel like you are in a different world! I loved every second of it. This is 100% an experience you should have while on the island, no doubt! It is the coolest thing I have done in Hawaii and I've done quite a bit! The boat ride was short and sweet and the crew was amazing. They made sure everyone was comfortable and up to date on all the safety information. Wet suit tops were provided but I didn't get cold so you might not need one. Such an incredible night! Definitely recommend! :)"

"This was an incredible experience we continued to gush about during the drive home. So glad we did this and so worth it! Captain Mark and Kai were excellent! They explained everything and worked hard to make sure we had a great experience. The Manta Rays circled up to within inches of us over and over. We lost count of how many times they came up to us. Truly a great and memorable experience that we highly recommend!"

Hawaiʻian Double Haul Canoe Tour

The double hull canoe — Wa’a — is a sacred tradition. What was the first thing that touched land on the Hawaiian islands? A canoe.

Modern double hull canoes, like their ancestors, are canoes that are supported by one or more floats — called double hull — that add stability. They can be sailed, but at Anelakai Adventures they paddle them around Keauhou Bay.

Why? One of the best ways to experience the Big Island is from the ocean, and in a double hull canoe, you can explore the Kona Coast and the Pacific Ocean the way our ancestors did.

See dolphins, fish and the majestic green sea turtle in our 24-foot, 6-seater canoes. Book a tour with a group of your own or meet other couples and enjoy a double hull canoe together.

On each personalized, guided double hull canoe adventure, you’ll learn local Hawaiian history and practice ocean awareness… But most of all a canoe tour with them is about having fun and creating memories that will stay with you forever.

They customize each and every canoe tour to suit your needs, whether you are looking for a workout or a leisurely paddle and snorkel in Kona. Let them share their passion and love for the ocean with you on a double hull canoe!

Overall rating

This was the best idea we had to add to our Hawaiian vacation. I felt very lucky that my family of 3 had a private tour via the ocean from a native. Chris was AWESOME. Super nice. Shared a lot of Hawaiian culture wit ... h us. That alone was great but it was even better to get our lesson on sea while looking back at the island. Totally totally worth it. I've already told all our friends to do this. Thank you Chris.

This was a fun activity, and totally safe. Our 4 yr old was not too excited at first, but later enjoyed it as we went out into the ocean. The highlight for her was getting to touch the water while sitting in the canoe, a ... nd seeing a turtle swimming close to us. The guide was experienced, and wanted to play safe since we had a young kid, but later realized that we could handle going out further into the ocean. It was a blast.

Very cool experience!

Canoe surfing was a lot of fun! It is like surfing on a canoe. Our 4 yo and 6 yo kids loved it, too. It does take a lot of effort on the adults part so be prepared to paddle. Our guide was excellet. We had some grea ... t conversation while waiting for each set to roll in. It was definitely worth the price for this experience. We did show up when originally scheduled, but the waves weren't big enough so they promised to call us when it would be better to come out. As promised they called us the next morning (they offered a whale watch if the waves weren't good enough before we had to leave). We were glad we re-arranged our schedule to do this. We will probably do it again when we go back.

Come and visit the pristine waters of the Kealakekua Bay State Historical Park with Ehu and Kai, a family-owned tour and equipment rental business. We have been providing kayak rentals, stand up paddle boards (SUP) and guided outrigger canoe tours of the Bay since 1997.

About The Captain Cook Monument

Kealakekua Bay is one of the most historic and beautiful places in Hawai’i. At the north end is the Captain Cook Monument, with the waters off the monument providing excellent snorkeling conditions and hundreds of fish and aquatic species you will only find in Hawai’i. Be on the lookout for the Hawai’ian spinner dolphins. These waters are best accessed through a guided tour of the Bay on our outrigger canoe or by a self-guided tour on a kayak.

AMAZING ADVENTURE REVIEWS FROM AWESOME GUESTS!

shape

We spent a week on the Big Island with our grandson to celebrate his graduation from high school. We rented kayaks online from Ehu and Kai. Their communications and directions were great. They gave us tips on paddling, and getting back into the kayaks, provided dry bags and even kept some of our belongings at their base until we returned. They even had a recommendation for poke, which my husband and grandson said was delicious!

We were able to reserve rental kayaks to take on our own across the Bay to the Captain Cook monument area for some snorkeling. The guys did a great job sharing the rules of the Bay and making sure our questions were answered and got us under way in no time. We are not super strong kayakers but navigated the Bay with ease. They give you super helpful landmarks to use for guidance!! Flash (the dog) was kind enough to watch over our shoes while we kayaked and he did an excellent job!!

We rented kayaks from Ehu & Kai for the 7:00 a.m. time slot and kayaked out to Captain Cook. The snorkeling was good, and we saw 20-30 spinner dolphins. All in all, it was a great experience!

Simply amazing! Our tour guide, to me, showed what aloha really is. He was very friendly, cared for everyone on the tour, and made all of us feel welcomed to the Island. He shared their culture and history around Kealakekua Bay. If you want a peaceful and laid-back tour while having a better understanding of the Hawaiian culture, I highly recommend Ehu and Kai.

The Ultimate Kayaking Experience In Hawaii

big island canoe tour

Brian took us out on a kayak trip and it was wonderful. It was a bit windy and we paddled hard but it was totally worth it. We saw fish and an email and watched Brian jump off a cliff. We lost sunglasses but he recovered them. It was a great day.

Great tour! They encouraged us not to take our camera's as they would be taking pictures and video's they would be emailing to us. They gave even gave our son the go pro to use while he was snorkeling. The drawback only negative will be if we don't receive the video.

We did the early morning kayak/dolphin quest trip. The two hour length was perfect for our seven year old, who has a short attention span. JC (our guide) was wonderful with him. He had never kayaked or snorkeled before and JC was so patient with him. He snorkeled twice, which he still talks about. We didn't see any dolphins, but it was still a wonderful experience due to the our great guide.

It was awesome. We were three couples, 2 per boat. The kayaking was strenuous but well worth it. We explored 2 caves, swam, snorkeled, jumped off a cliff, had some snacks. My husband and I really enjoyed the experience. Our tour guide was knowledgeable about the area too!

Compliance status

Screen-reader and keyboard navigation.

  • Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website. In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels; descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups), and others. Additionally, the background process scans all of the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology. To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on as soon as they enter the website. These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.
  • Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside of it.Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Disability profiles supported in our website

  • Epilepsy Safe Mode: this profile enables people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures that result from flashing or blinking animations and risky color combinations.
  • Visually Impaired Mode: this mode adjusts the website for the convenience of users with visual impairments such as Degrading Eyesight, Tunnel Vision, Cataract, Glaucoma, and others.
  • Cognitive Disability Mode: this mode provides different assistive options to help users with cognitive impairments such as Dyslexia, Autism, CVA, and others, to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.
  • ADHD Friendly Mode: this mode helps users with ADHD and Neurodevelopmental disorders to read, browse, and focus on the main website elements more easily while significantly reducing distractions.
  • Blindness Mode: this mode configures the website to be compatible with screen-readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen-reader is software for blind users that is installed on a computer and smartphone, and websites must be compatible with it.
  • Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor-Impaired): this profile enables motor-impaired persons to operate the website using the keyboard Tab, Shift+Tab, and the Enter keys. Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Additional UI, design, and readability adjustments

  • Font adjustments – users, can increase and decrease its size, change its family (type), adjust the spacing, alignment, line height, and more.
  • Color adjustments – users can select various color contrast profiles such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome. Additionally, users can swap color schemes of titles, texts, and backgrounds, with over 7 different coloring options.
  • Animations – epileptic users can stop all running animations with the click of a button. Animations controlled by the interface include videos, GIFs, and CSS flashing transitions.
  • Content highlighting – users can choose to emphasize important elements such as links and titles. They can also choose to highlight focused or hovered elements only.
  • Audio muting – users with hearing devices may experience headaches or other issues due to automatic audio playing. This option lets users mute the entire website instantly.
  • Cognitive disorders – we utilize a search engine that is linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
  • Additional functions – we provide users the option to change cursor color and size, use a printing mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other functions.

Kayak Tours

Big island kayak tours.

In ancient Hawai‘i there were only two modes of transportation: by foot on land, and by wa‘a (canoe) on water. The Big Island was the first place ancient Polynesians landed their wa‘a, and you too can go back in time along the Big Island’s pristine shores in much the same way by kayak. Imagine peacefully paddling on a gentle bay with the towering backdrop of Hawaii’s 14,000-foot mountains, sunlight sparkling on the water. Discover gems like Kealakekua Bay in South Kona, the historic site of Captain Cook’s landing. Or, navigate out to one of the island’s stunning hidden beaches. The waters of the Big Island await you; learn more about Big Island kayaking below!

Kayaking on the Big Island

Big island kayak tour companies.

There are numerous kayak tour companies on the Big Island, so we’ll give you our top picks. Our number one choice is Micah, Lindsay, and Mike Dennis of Ocean Safaris in Kailua. The Dennis’s have been sharing the Big Island’s secrets with small groups of visitors since 1994 and they know the spots. Aloha Kayak Company in Honalo specializes in tours of the most amazing kayaking/snorkel spots on the Big Island, and also offers a nighttime manta ray adventure. Kona Boys in Kealakekua has a wonderful five-hour kayak and snorkel tour at Kealakekua Bay and is a great value.

#1 KAYAK TOURS ON THE BIG ISLAND, HAWAII ★★★★★

King Kayak Hawaii

My sister and I took a morning kayak and snorkeling tour with King Kayak and throroughly enjoyed it! We watched the sunrise as we paddled to our snorkeling locations and listened while our guide, Kevin, shared local history, geology information, and snorkeling tips. He was excellent! We saw dozens of beautiful fishes, heard whales, and encountered a sweet pod of dolphins. This tour beat the big, touristy tours hands down.

Game over if your looking for the best Kayak tour. Just do this and you will be happy. Outstanding preparation by the guide led to an outstanding Kayaking tour. Snorkeling is Excellent! Cannot say enough about the guide, the kayaking, snorkeling. Outstanding all the way around. Thank you

We enjoyed every minute of our kayak tour with Kevin. We totally lucked out and had a private tour the day we went -- Kevin is full of local knowledge and stories. We saw so many fish while snorkeling and felt completely comfortable and safe. There was a chance to cliff jump, we explored a small cave, and we even jumped in the water when we saw a baby manta! Best way to start a day for sure. Oh, and Kevin had snacks waiting for us when we got back to shore.

Had a blast on our kayaking tour. Kevin was super kind and friendly and showed us some really neat areas on the water of the Kona coastline. We had the opportunity to cliff jump and snorkel, we were taken to two different areas to snorkel. Kevin provided snacks and water as well. He also talked about Hawaiian history and culture which was so interesting! Overall a great time!!
