Travel & Adventure Show: Travel is Back in 2022

architecture buildings business city

If you’ve ever thought of traveling everywhere in the world all on the same day, perhaps you should consider attending an in-person travel expo like the Travel & Adventure Show . With 16 years and over 100 Travel & Adventure Show events under its belt, Travel & Adventure Shows are among the marquee events for travel enthusiasts.

We attended the Dallas version this past weekend with exhibitors all eager to show that travel is back in 2022. Count me in as a believer.

According to Jonathan Golicz, Vice President of the Travel & Adventure Show, one of the main reasons that people attend these shows is for the crucial new travel information. Given all the changes in the travel and tourism industry enacted by the global pandemic, a lot has changed and travelers need to be aware. Golicz highlighted that a distinctive quality of the Travel & Adventure Show is that all of this updated material is available under one roof.

Through a pipeline of expert presenters, travel agents, tourism board representatives, and other knowledgeable professionals, the Travel & Adventure Show connects attendees with the updated travel resources they need to make timely decisions.

By taking the time and effort to attend an expo, it’s clear that the attendees are serious about getting back to travel right now. Although Mr. Golicz estimated that the current expo was not quite at maximum capacity in terms of volume of exhibits and attendance, nonetheless “it’s encouraging that travel is being booked here…travel is back as you can see”. It’s hard to argue to the contrary after witnessing the surging array of booths and exhibits, eye-opening travel industry information, and swag-filled discussions with travel professionals from across the world.

The Travel Show Experience

The exhibits.

The floorplan and layout at Dallas Market Hall was well considered. I found an easy flow of aisles designated by travel types and geographic distribution. Vertical banner signs signaled the way to re-orient me whenever I wandered away from my pre-planned route. Every entrant also received an exhibit floor map.

Much like exploring on an actual vacation, everyone can suit their own style for exploring the space. You can pre-plan your exhibit itinerary or wander through the Dallas Market Hall avenues at your whims of the moment.

The sheer volume of having so many local, regional, and international exhibits felt a tad overwhelming at first. Where should I start, over at the African safari river boat booth or the Antarctic cruise destinations? For the kids, the Houston-area exhibit fresh with astronaut ice cream was a no-brainer. NASA is a huge tourism draw for the Houston area, and the kids love space. And ice cream. But especially space ice cream.

Locals from All Over the World

travel & adventure show 2022 minneapolis

Several of the booths were filled with information about local towns and communities with their own distinctive features. Take Deer Park, Texas for example. As a native Texan who listened keenly during my 7th grade Texas History class, I should have already known that Deer Park identifies itself as “The Birthplace of Texas”.

Deer Park representative Kaitlyn Bluejacket shared the pride of such heritage and that “there’s really something for everyone here”. She and her fellow Houston-area presenters highlighted the area’s historical significance and noted that the blending of modern and traditional cultures have formed a travel-friendly melting pot.

Nicole Dees over at the Navarre Beach booth touched on the calming essence of natural oceanside. Operations and Sales Manager Michelle Flippo with the Oxnard section of the Ventura County Coast exhibit outlined the well rounded flow across several diverse California communities. I also loved hearing contrasts between the constant strum of urban living versus the “deafening silence” encountered on Antarctic cruises.

Being the home of the Dallas Cowboys, no Texas travel expo would be complete without some authentic cowboys in their old-west attire. Curiously, we found them standing in their booth next to an ATV-sized electronic dinosaur. I’m going to need to re-take my history class…but I digress.

The Speakers, Presenters, & Travel Celebrities

Travel convention audience reacting to travel information and travel deals

Headlining the 2022 Travel & Adventure Show in Dallas were travel celebrities Brian Kelly (aka, “ The Points Guy “), producer and news journalist Peter Greenberg , and best selling author Pauline Frommer . The amount of expert knowledge oozing from these presenters is well worth the price of admission.

I’ve been to travel conventions where the top billed speakers gave some canned information with no opportunity for audience participation. I’m not sure if it was simply a unique set of travel celebrities at the show today, but they seemed to genuinely care about the material they were presenting. My previous perception of travel celebrity stuffiness was debunked today.

For the Dallas show, the setup was very fluid between the exhibits and the presentation area. This openness allowed for simple shifts from visiting the booths to joining the ever-ready flow of educational seminars. Attendees had no need to purchase a separate ticket, arrive hours early, or reduce time spent in diligent efforts to capture more of those coveted swag bags from the trendy nearby booths.

Plus, it wasn’t just the headliners pulling in an audience. Pleasantly, the presentation topics included more than re-tread “bargain travel talks” or representatives hyping sponsored destinations. I’m thinking this was largely due to the organization, specificity of topics, and transparency of the presenters.

I personally enjoyed the accessibility of most of the presenters who readily entertained questions from the audience. Seriously, where else do you get to chat with high-end travel professionals like this?

Travel Conventions are Back

travel conference globe bright and clear international travel map

Interestingly, when exhibitors heard that I was working with PsychologyofTravel.com , the discussion often naturally shifted from their exhibit content to more specific ways that their respective destinations offered emotional benefits. Using words like relaxation, tranquility, cultural appreciation, travel sustainability, self-growth, adventure, peacefulness, and a variety of similar synonyms highlighting the mental health benefits of travel , we all began speaking the same language of travel joy . It was refreshing.

Still, not every booth held something that was of direct appeal to me. Certain elements didn’t seem as clearly travel-centric. The house restoration folks were very informative and non-pushy, though it wasn’t the specific reason I was there. Plus, I wasn’t looking for a time-share sales pitch. So, I came prepared with some polite yet creative ways to say “no thanks”. I may or may not have had my kid come grab my hand to pull me away under the guise of wanting ice cream. She already had ice cream, dehydrated and bagged straight from NASA, remember?

The Final Word

With all that said, the vibe was friendly and the huge range of updated travel information was appealing. Quite frankly it just felt overdue to be in the company of fellow travelers again. Plus, there’s the “Travel Show Exclusive” deals and discounts on travel that are (seriously) difficult to beat.

Travel, and travel conventions, are back. So, if you’re contemplating your next trip and need some inspiration, or if you just need to book your ideal destination, the next Travel & Adventure Show should be on your immediate to-do list. While you’re at it, get yourself some astronaut ice cream.

I had one star expectations for this event and it delivered. This is mostly an event for people to sell you things. You are the product. Yeah, maybe you can get a discount or find out about a new place (I learned that Orange County, NY exists!) but you can do the same online. Tickets sell for $20 but you can probably get them free or discounted online. I got mine for free from an Instagram ad by a travel company, in exchange for giving them my contact info. I certainly would not pay $20 to attend and talk to salespeople. I would give this event 2 stars if it was free. The event took place in Hall C of the convention center, which is about 1/3 of the large basement space, way at the back. It was not a very large event. There were about 3 stages and maybe 40 vendors from different US states, countries, and travel providers like cruises, safaris, or general travel agents. A handful of booths had some swag, samples, or contest entries in exchange for your contact info so they can spam you later. We didn't bother with most of them. Louisville, Kentucky had cocktail samples (Old Fashioned) which were actually good. A few had candy we ignored. Two Caribbean spots had rum samples. The main activity is pick up brochures or book trips with people. We spent about an hour there, ignored most of the booths because we didn't want to get stuck in uncomfortable sales conversations, and then left.

Had fun attending since I am a travel agent. I got to learn a lot about the cruising industry which is helpful since I am planning a cruise trip for a friend currently. I got to also meet people from a baseball stadium tour company that was right up my alley! I got a lot of valuable information surprisingly and will definitely attend in the future. Tip for my fellow travel agents: Make sure to book on the travel agent link to attend for free. You get a badge to wear, get access to the event an hour earlier than everyone else on day 1. You also get to hear some amazing panels geared towards us.

Asked to remove my dead Grandfather of 6+ years from their mailing list. Was told to go remove him on another website. "That we don't do that here." If a company doesn't have the common decency to remove someone from their mailing list. When you call and ask. What's the point of having a call number? As a worker for that company. You cannot perform an action based on solicitation mail which is the only reason you received a phone call in the first place. He is already on the "do not mail list", so I cannot go elsewhere and remove him. Just laughable

Photo of Fred B.

This is a complete scam. I received a letter indicating that I would receive several things but I'll just just mention one. The offer was for "two nights at one of over 1000 Marriott's, Hiltons, or Hyatt's " So, I said just for that alone I'll accept and I then I said that I would be using those two nights at a local NYC area hotel. Immediately I was told that I had to fly in order to get the hotel. I said I'm not flying within 20 miles and there are a lot of those hotels mentioned within these 20 miles. Immediately the lady started to try to get me to attend a meeting to which I replied that if I cant use a hotel as stated earlier I would not fall for this scam!

First time attending this event! I won some passes through Yelp DC. I stopped by for about an hour on Sunday. I took metro since I figured parking would be horrendous and it was St. Patty's Day! Checking in was very easy and I received a wristband and a booklet with the layout. I walked around to most of the vendors/travel agencies. I just felt overwhelmed and that so many of them were all trying to sell vacation packages on the spot. I didn't care be hassled into buying a trip without having talked to family members or friends (people I would be traveling with. I'm not ready to take solo vacations). I just thought it would have been more "exciting." I don't think I would attend this event again...

The booths are staffed with knowledgable folks who are easy-going. Smart venue for this event. The Washington, DC Convention Center can handle the needs of both the crowd and the exhibitors quite well. Good feeling in the air. Saw Samatha Brown, formerly of the Travel Channel and now with PBS, speak about her travel career. She's the real deal and was exciting to see in person. Nice selection of performing arts from all over. For example, there was a Thai dance troupe that performed who were graceful, fun to watch. If you are serious about travel and adventure, this is a must-do. Got helpful tips on travel to some spots that I've been dreaming of visiting. Thanks to Sabine at the Florida Keys & Key West table; a longtime resident there, she was a font of information and gave me all sorts of fab maps and coupons. Also grateful to Mike at the Pocono Mountains' Visitors Bureau; he let me know how vast the Poconos are, and what some of my options could be.

travel & adventure show 2022 minneapolis

This is one of my favorite events in DC. I have only attended the show at the convention center. Tickets are inexpensive and frequently free. If you follow the show on Facebook or twitter, you can find out useful details about the show before it takes place. This year #PassportProject (Hilton Hotels) handed out free tickets to anyone that wanted to renew or apply for a passport. I got free passport photos and a nice passport cover. The event is "one stop shopping" for travel information, fun swag & discounted trips. We enjoyed several cooking demonstrations from local restaurants. There were informative lectures on photography, how to spend & accrue miles and cultural dances on stage. There are always unique activities at this show. In previous years, I rode a camel, took underwater pictures in full snorkeling gear and posed in costume with a backdrop from another country. This year there was a motion thrill ride with virtual reality goggles. Tips for attending the expo: *The most important tip: Open a Gmail account. You get a "phone number" that will only ring to a phone if you forward it. Otherwise all your "calls" are sent to your email. You can play the messages by clicking on your email and see when someone has tried to contact you. Use the google number for any contest entry or survey. That way you won't get called fourteen times if an eager vendor wants to sell you something. Research the speakers & events ahead of time. There are meet and greets and awesome programs. It helps to have a plan. Wear comfortable shoes. You'll walk more than you realize. Be comfortable. The food selections are limited. There were three vendors at the expo and a coffee shop by the entrance. You can taste items at a cooking demo but that won't be enough. Bring a snack and a bottle of water. You can always eat nearby and come back if you are still wearing your wristband. Do your research on any travel company, especially the time shares and "vacation packages." You can always google the vendor while standing in front of the booth. If you find bad reviews or complaints from the BBB, be cautious. If a vendor promises a ticket or gift with purchase, get it in writing. Ask what the return policy is on merchandise. Many of the vendors can swipe your credit card on a phone and email the receipt. If you aren't holding a receipt, you can't read the return policy. Ask for a business card. If you don't see a company address or website, be careful. Take pictures! There are always fun backdrops for pictures. I look for the photo booth as soon as I enter the expo. Look for swag. You won't need pens or shopping bags for a while after this event. My tiara was the best swag from the weekend. The passport pictures were the most practical.

I love the DC Travel Show. This is my 4th year attending. Many vendors, domestic and international. My favs were: Guatemala, Antartica, Indonesia, India, and Gate 1 Travel. At the Key West table, the older gent treated me as if I had not traveled further than my street. That's always frustrating. Also, his ignorance, not mine. Peter Greenberg and Kellee Edwards, two travel journalists that were a delight to hear speak. Quite knowledgeable in their field and a great sense of humor. I'll continue to support and watch them on the Travel Channel. Not all who wander are lost. Until next year, DC Travel & Adventure Show.

More crowded than I thought. Lots of travel info and fun activities like rock climbing, a camel ride, Segway, etc... and cooking shows. The talk by the Booz traveler will start soon. Ticket: Around $8-15. Groupon or something is selling better deal ticked. Free for military. Parking: Street or garage.

I love traveling and adventure so it was a total no brainer that I would be visting this showcase! Parking around this area on a weekend is horrendous but metro wasn't an option for us. Eventually we parked and found our way to the actual convention with easy. We bought our tickets on Groupon for less than $12 for two tickets. I'm so glad I didn't pay full price for this convention. When we arrived I noticed an insane amount of people on the floor. It was extremely hard to move from booth to booth with the amount of people. I realized the lack of security as well as no one checking wristbands or the amount of people allowed in at once. The other issue was this convention was mostly papers and pamphlets. I was honestly surprised that there weren't more freebies or samples. One booth had a sample but it was only for the people who were having long conversations. We kind of walked down every isle passing booths because nothing was exciting. I don't think I would come to this convention again. The lack of simulation was a real damper and didn't make me want to stay. Most of the convention was east coast and it wasn't at all what I thought it would be. It's unfortunate because it could've been a lot better.

Travel & Adventure Show 2023: A Must for Cruise and Travel Fans

Travel & Adventure Show 2023: A Must for Cruise and Travel Fans

The Travel & Adventure Show is coming to nine US cities in 2023. Find out why this fun two-day travel exhibition is a must for anyone who loves traveling.

Last spring, I enjoyed visiting the Travel & Adventure Show in Boston , and as a travel fanatic it was the perfect way to spend a weekend, even though I wasn’t far from home!

But don’t worry that you missed the boat with the last exhibition. The Travel & Adventure Show is once again visiting nine US cities in the spring of 2023.

At this two-day gathering, travel fans can meet with dozens of friendly people from around the world who represent travel brands, and there’s always a variety of exhibitors. You’ll see booths for cruise lines, independent tour operators, tourism boards, luxury resorts, airlines—there’s something for every kind of traveler.

What is the Travel & Adventure Show?

For seventeen years the Travel & Adventure Show has hosted annual travel exhibitions in major US cities. They’ve done over a hundred of these events so far, with a total of over 2.1 million visitors!

Each show offers over 100 travel-focused exhibitor booths, featuring both domestic and international destinations.

Stroll through the exhibition halls and pick up literature from travel companies you’re interested in, snag some free logo goodies, and enter drawings to win prizes.

Plus, you can sit in on any of their dozens of free live seminars and travel talks, held on three stages throughout the event.

Where is the Travel & Adventure Show stopping in 2023?

  • Chicago: January 14-15, 2023 – Donald E. Stephens Convention Center
  • Boston : January 21-22, 2023 – Hynes Convention Center
  • New York : January 28-29, 2023 – Javits Center
  • Washington D.C.  February 4-5, 2023 – Washington Convention Center
  • Los Angeles  February 18-19, 2023 – Los Angeles Convention Center
  • Denver  February 25-26, 2023 – Colorado Convention Center
  • S.F. Bay Area  March 4-5, 2023 – Santa Clara Convention Center
  • Atlanta  March 25-26, 2023 – Cobb Galleria Centre
  • Dallas  April 1-2, 2023 – Dallas Market Hall

Why this exhibition is a mecca for cruisers

Cruisers will love the Travel & Adventure Show for the opportunity to “talk cruising” with reps from your favorite companies, especially to find out all about their newest ships and itineraries!

travel & adventure show 2022 minneapolis

You might even find some cruise lines you haven’t yet considered yet—it’s not just the major mass-market lines at this show!

Reps from expedition cruise operators, luxury cruise lines, and even small regional cruise outfits are on hand at this show to answer all your questions, even if you’re just dreaming about taking a cruise!

Cruise lines represented at the 2022 Boston show:

  • AMA Waterways
  • Atlas Ocean Voyages
  • Celestyal Cruises
  • CroisiEurope Cruises
  • Holland America Line
  • Hurtigruten
  • Katarina Line
  • Norwegian Cruise Line
  • Poseidon Expeditions
  • Princess Cruises
  • Regent Seven Seas Cruises
  • Royal Caribbean
  • Viking Cruises
  • Windstar Cruises

Take a moment and check out each of the cruise travel booths—you’re sure to find inspiration for your next cruise adventure (and you might walk away with some free swag, too!)

Speakers at the Travel & Adventure Show

One of my favorite parts of the show was attending the inspirational travel seminars. For my 2022 visit, there were over thirty of them on three stages, so be sure to plan out which ones you want to see! And yes, all the seminars are included in the price of your ticket.

My last Boston show had several featured speakers, including Andrew McCarthy (yes, the Pretty in Pink and St. Elmo’s Fire actor!), beloved travel show host Samantha Brown , and Pauline Frommer —the author, TV host, and Editorial Director of Frommer’s Guidebooks.

travel & adventure show 2022 minneapolis

On the main stage, known as the Travel Theater, the featured speakers entertained and inspired us with stories of their travels throughout the world.

At the end of each seminar there’s a brief Q&A session, followed by a meet and greet so you can interact (and maybe snap a photo) with the speakers.

Pro tip: If you want to meet one of your fave speakers without standing in a long line, get up during the Q&A session at the very end of the seminar and head over to the Meet & Greet stand. You’ll still be able to hear the end of the session, but you’ll be at the front of the line!

Featured speakers vary by city, and (of course) the list of speakers is subject to change. Check out my chart below with all of last year’s featured speakers for each city.

When the 2023 Travel & Adventure Show speakers are finalized, I’ll update this post. So bookmark it if you’re thinking about attending!

Featured speakers at the 2022 Travel & Adventure Shows

In addition to the Travel Theater , the exhibition also features two other stages hosting interesting travel talks on various topics:

Destination Theater:  A variety of destination experts will inspire you to travel, sharing in-depth information about how to experience their favorite places like a local.

Savvy Traveler Theater:  Here you’ll find travel pros sharing their best travel tips—like how to pack for your vacation, budget travel hacks, and how to stay safe when you travel.

Buying tickets for the Travel & Adventure Show

Although it seems like the price of just about everything has skyrocketed over the past year, I’m thrilled to report that Travel & Adventure Show tickets cost the same as last year!

Tickets are still $16 for one day and $24 for both days (online or at the door). Kids age 16 and under get in free with an adult.

To purchase tickets online, visit the Travel & Adventure Show website and click on “buy tickets” for your preferred city.

Travel & Adventure Show FAQ

What cities will the Travel & Adventure Show visit in 2023?

The Travel & Adventure Show will visit nine US cities in 2023: Chicago, Boston, New York, Washington DC, Los Angeles, Denver, San Francisco, Atlanta, and Dallas.

How much are tickets for the 2023 Travel & Adventure Show?

Tickets for the Travel & Adventure Show are $16 for one day and $24 for both days. Children 16 and under are free when accompanied by an adult.

I’d like to thank the Travel & Adventure Show for providing Should Be Cruising with two passes to the 2022 Boston show. I wasn’t provided any additional compensation, and as always my opinions are entirely my own.

Have you been to the Travel & Adventure Show? Or are you planning on going in 2023? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below!

My wife and I attended your presentation in Rocky Mount, NC on April 3rd because we were told we would receive a voucher for a cruise just by attending. Also the first 50 attendees would receive a $100 dinner voucher. We responded to the mail immediately upon receiving it, we went to the presentation, and received nothing so far. This is smelling like a scam.

Hi John, I'm an independent travel blogger who attended the Travel & Adventure show in Boston as a member of the media. I have no affiliation with the company. The real Travel & Adventure Show takes place annually in large cities across the US. As far as I know it's never been held in the small city of Rocky Mount, NC. You may have been scammed/lied to by another company with a similar name.
