A lovely tour of London with delicious food & drink!

We went on a Brigit's Afternoon Tea Bus in London on a Wednesday afternoon. The staff members, Katherine and Aziz, were very nice and friendly, serving our drinks and easily answering any questions that we had. The food was delicious, especially the desserts!

A deliciously British experience!

The whole experience was incredible. Went there as a surprise to my friends and we absolutely loved it! We enjoyed every bite of this delicious afternoon tea. Needless to say we ate everything…! The tour was also a delight. Weather was nice and allowed us to see all the beautiful landmarks perfectly.

Absolutely loved every minute!

If you’re going to do it…do it on a Brigit’s bus with afternoon tea! Our servers on the day were Micah, Alex and Diogo and they were super. We got to see all the Major landmarks and even got to take home what we couldn’t eat. All in all would highly recommend this experience, with friends or with loved ones this is a really special treat.

Incredible Tour!

I couldn’t imagine a better way to kick off our UK tour. Our guides Daisy, Monica and Kel went above and beyond to make this experience perfect. We couldn’t recommend enough, you won’t be disappointed!

B Bakery Bus Tour: The Best Afternoon Tea Bus Tour In London

Posted on Last updated: June 7, 2021

After six years of living in London I have started to acquire a taste for British food (some of it anyway), one of these being afternoon tea. Afternoon tea is a very traditional English meal composed of sandwiches and cakes.

B Bakery offers this traditional English experience with a special twist, in the form of an afternoon tea bus tour !

If you want to experience London in a different way, what could be better than seeing all the main tourist landmarks while savouring delicious food and tea? (Hint; nothing is).

By giving a unique spin to a British classic, B Bakery is without a doubt one of the most quirky places to eat in London . Read on to find out more about our experience on the B Bakery afternoon tea bus tour in London!

Before you read on, have you booked your London hotel already? If not, check out the best areas to stay in London (recommended by a Londoner!)

Getting ready for our afternoon tea bus tour in London

What is afternoon tea?

For those that aren’t acquainted with the glorious British tradition of afternoon tea , I figured I should give you a bit of an introduction about it.

Afternoon tea is a meal first introduced in the 1840s, first as a mini meal between lunch and dinner so that one wouldn’t arrive at dinner too famished. It used to be a social event for high society ladies.

Today it is still considered somewhat a fancy meal and will mostly be consumed on special occasions (unless you have a very traditional English grandma that will make you sandwiches, cakes and tea for when you get home from school).

As the name implies it is usually consumed in the afternoon, however you can have afternoon tea as early as 12pm. It is usually composed of three parts; savoury sandwiches, sweet pastries and scones.

There are lots of great and quirky afternoon teas in London , but the B Bakery one is amongst my favourites.

The route of our afternoon tea bus tour in London

Our afternoon tea bus tour started at Victoria Coach Station and covered all the main landmarks in London.

There is an automated guide voice that gives a short history of all the main attractions, but the staff will also chime in and talk about smaller landmarks that aren’t mentioned in the tape, which makes it a much more personal and interesting experience.

Setting off from Victoria Station we first drove around Kensington, seeing main landmarks such as Hyde Park Corner, Harrods, the Victoria & Albert Museum, the National History Museum and the Royal Albert Hall.

Don’t miss out, click here to book your spot on a B Bakery afternoon tea bus tour!

From there we drove on along the side of Hyde Park until we reached Notting Hill, where we then turned right and continued our tour around Hyde Park.

At the North Eastern corner of Hyde Park we drove past Marble Arch, and then back south to Hyde Park Corner.

Once we there we turned left and drove through central London, seeing Piccadilly Circus, the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace and we then ended our tour back at Victoria Coach Station.

The tour lasts approximately 1 hour, but this really depends on the traffic (and the traffic in London can be pretty awful, but hey that means you get to enjoy a longer afternoon tea bus tour)!

B Bakery offers a number of different types of menus and can also cater for most dietary requirements, whether you want to eat Vegetarian, Vegan, Halal or Gluten-Free, just make sure to say so when you book and the chefs of B Bakery will make sure your dietary needs are met.

As per tradition afternoon tea is served in a tiered plate stand , with savoury sandwiches on the bottom plate and cakes in the top one.

Savoury treats

The bottom plate was filled with different types of delicious freshly prepared savoury sandwiches.

Some were afternoon tea classics such as the Cucumber & Mint Finger Sandwich, the Watercress & Egg Pretzel and the Ham & Cheese Sandwich With Mayo & Mustard .

The others were more original and I hadn’t seen them served before at afternoon teas, and included things like a Chestnut mushroom quiche, small BLT Burgers and Smoked Salmon Blinis (these were like small pancakes with cream cheese, cucumber and smoked salmon).

These last three were my personal favourites as they were a bit different from what I was normally used to, and especially tasty.

Sweet treats

The top tray of our stacked dish   was covered in an assortment of mini homemade cakes and tarts. My personal favourite were the Chocolate Mini Cupcake and the Lemon Meringue Tart.

When we were about three quarters of the tour in and had gotten through most of our food we were served warm scones with jam and cream to end the afternoon tea.

These are typical unsalted English cakes, to which you then add jam and cream to add flavour. They are traditionally always served with afternoon tea.

As you may imagine, the traditional drink to have at afternoon tea, is in fact tea.

B Bakery offers a number of different teas from Betjaman & Barton, including traditional flavours like English Breakfast and Earl Grey , but also more alternative flavours such as Darjeeling and Rooibos Jardin Rouge .

If like me you’re not much of a tea drinker, don’t worry as they have other coffee and hot chocolate options.

Final thoughts on doing a afternoon tea bus tour in London

Have you been on an afternoon tea bus tour before? How did you find it? Let me know in the comments below!

I really enjoyed our B Bakery afternoon tea bus tour as it gave a creative spin to a traditional experience. Despite living in London for six years, I still really enjoy doing touristy things like this or even Harry Potter tours .

This was such a fun day, touring around and seeing all the main landmarks and tourist attractions of London. The delicious tea, sandwiches and cakes was an added bonus!

This is a must! My daughter and I did this in March. Food was delicious! We consider this a highlight of our quick get away to London.

Sunday 9th of June 2019

It's a great activity to do with your family for sure! And the perfect way to combine sightseeing around London with a cool English meal like afternoon tea :)

Tuesday 18th of September 2018

That sounds so amazing, and the food looks so tasty. Now I only need to get to London. :) Thanks so much for sharing this.

No problem, glad you enjoyed the post! Haha definitely worth a visit when you make it to London :)

Friday 14th of September 2018

We took this tour last fall 2017. It was so much fun. As we gathered to board the bus, my husband started noticing there were only a few men in the group. He wasn't so happy with me, but the food and many sights we passed turned him around. No doubt we would recommend this tour, especially to someone who has never been to London. Gives you a good over view of where sights are in town.

I agree, it's a fun way to see all the main landmarks in London! And since there's nice food and tea onboard you don't mind getting stuck in traffic either haha!

Tuesday 27th of March 2018

Thank you for sharing such a great information and photograph with us. You are doing great work. Keep it up

This looks so much fun! As a Brit I also love that you have pointed out that afternoon tea is NOT something that the English do every day, which seems to be the stereotype. It's a special occasion for us too - so this looks like a great activity for anyone to do in London!

All aboard! Hold onto your glass. It’s the Brigit’s Bakery Afternoon Tea bus tour. Enjoy London’s iconic sites from the comfort of a beautifully restored 1960s vintage double decker bus with a glass of Prosecco in hand and scrumptious scones in the belly. Nom nom!

Whether you live in London like me, are visiting for the first or umpteenth time, joining a B Bakery Afternoon Tea Bus London Tour is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon with friends or family.

The Brigit’s Bakery specialises in Afternoon Tea. But they take things a step further so you can actually pick where you want it. Choose from dining in their luxury bakery in Covent Garden, cruising along the thames on a B Boat Tour or hopping aboard a B Afternoon Tea Bus London Tour –  like I did.

But that’s not all.

Brigit’s Bakery also provide themed Afternoon Tea tours, from Gin to Halloween. With Christmas around the corner, I was invited to join their Christmassy Afternoon Tea.

Here’s everything you need to know about Brigit’s Bakery Afternoon Tea bus tour.

What to expect on a Brigit’s Bakery Afternoon Tea bus tour?

On the day of the tour, head to the Victoria Coach Station where the tour departs. I recommend you aim to arrive roughly 20-30 minutes before departure as to allow plenty of time to get your name checked off the list and settle into your seat.

When you board the bus, you’ll be led to your table which you chose at the time of booking. Seating is available upstairs or downstairs so book early if you know you want to sit up the top.  All tables are already arranged and beautifully dressed and on each seat you’ll find your own tote bag of goodies. No spoilers!

Shortly after everyone is seated, the tour leader will give a welcome message while the servers come around to fill up your glass with Prosecco.

It’s time to depart. Off we go!

For the next hour and a half you’ll drive through the heart of London passing by iconic landmarks and historical buildings with soft background music. As you approach each attraction, the music is briefly interrupted with an audio commentary.

Keep an eye out the window to see Big Ben, The Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, St James’s Park, Hyde Park, The Royal Albert Hall, Marble Arch, Nelson’s Column, and Downing Street just to mention a few.

B Bakery bus tour - Best afternoon tea tour London - Street view

For Christmas Afternoon Tea I was on, the B Bus Tour followed a unique route along Regent’s Street so we could see the beautiful Christmas Lights.

B Bakery bus tour - Best afternoon tea tour London - Map of tour

Throughout the tour, our glasses were constantly topped up without us needing to ask. Roughly half-way through the tour, after most of us had finished eating the savoury food, the servers came around with warm scones with clotted cream and took our tea orders.

B Bakery bus tour - Best afternoon tea tour London - Scones with jam and clotted cream

By the end of the tour I was feeling a little tipsy, but very content.  We were each given a little fold up cardboard box to take any left over cakes and sandwiches home.

Once back at Victoria Coach station, anyone who hadn’t ordered tea on board were each gifted a lovely Brigits Bakery themed travel mug to take home. I received mine earlier with my order for a Lemon and Ginger tea. With a few more snaps outside of the bus, the B Afternoon Tea Bus was sadly over.

Who is the B Afternoon Tea Bus London Tour for?

Unfortunately, their tours aren’t suitable for accessible patrons and children under 5 are not allowed on board.

Essential tour tips

  • Let them know your dietary requirements – Are you vegan,  follow a gluten free or Halal diet? No problem. Just let the servers know and they’ll provide you with diet friendly sandwiches.
  • Hold onto your glass – I wasn’t kidding when I said to hold onto your glass. The ride can be bumpy at times and the London traffic can be unpredictable with sudden stops so hold onto your class of bubbly to avoid and sudden accidents.
  • Got to the toilet before you board – There are no toilet facilities on board so make sure you use the restrooms either at Victoria Station (these are free) or at Victoria Coach Station (costs 30p) before departing.
  • There’s not a lot of wiggle room – Remember, this is a vintage bus so it’s going to be quite cosy inside. There’s not a lot of space either, so leave any bulky items and shopping bags at home. There is space under your seat but just enough for a handbag or small rucksack.
  • Allow plenty of time to arrive – If you’re not familiar with the Victoria area, be sure to allow an extra 5-7 minutes to walk to the Victoria Coach Station which is completely separate from Victoria Train Station.
  • Flexible departure times – The B Bakery Afternoon Tea Bus London Tour has multiple departure times. For example, there are five daily departures for the Christmas Afternoon Tea Tour at 12:00, 12:30, 14:30, 15:00, 17:00 & 17:30. The tours at 17:00 & 17:30 are the ones that will take your along Regent’s Street to see the Christmas lights.
  • Limited seating –  There might be plenty of departure times but each bus can only dine up to 28 guests. So if you want a spot on the top deck, book early to avoid disappointment .
