Hays travel card review
You can pick up a Hays Travel Mastercard in a branch of Hays travel in the UK, or you can order a card online for convenience. Once you’ve got your card you can hold up to 16 different currencies in different currency ‘wallets’, for spending and withdrawals when you’re overseas.
This guide works through all you need to know about the Hays travel card, including the Hays travel card key features, benefits, fees and limits. To help you decide if the Hays card is right for you, we'll also look at the Wise international prepaid card and the Revolut debit card for comparison.
Hays travel card: key features
The Hays Travel Mastercard lets you hold and exchange a good selection of currencies which cover popular holiday destinations from the UK. However, if you’re spending a currency you don’t hold, there are fairly high fees to consider - plus some extra charges and limits you’ll want to know about.
Let’s start with a quick overview of the pros and cons of the Hays Travel Mastercard:
The Hays card has a few key benefits. It’s not connected to your regular GBP account which can be safer compared to using your regular bank card when you’re abroad - and you’ll be able to use it to make ATM withdrawals when you’re away, which is also more secure than carrying a large amount of cash. However, there are fees you’ll need to know about - including exchange rate markups and a foreign transaction fee if you’re spending a currency you don’t hold in the account.
Travel debit cards from providers with broader multi-currency account options, like Wise and Revolut, can make it easier and cheaper to spend when you’re abroad. With Wise for example, instead of a foreign transaction fee when you spend a currency you don’t hold overseas, you’ll just pay a low conversion charge which can be as little as 0.41% - and Revolut accounts may qualify for some currency conversion with no fee at all, depending on your account tier.
Who is the Hays travel card for?
The Hays Travel Mastercard supports up to 16 different currencies, which cover many popular holiday destinations from the UK. Supported currencies include euro (EUR), pound sterling (GBP), US dollars (USD), Australian dollars (AUD), New Zealand dollars (NZD), Canadian dollars (CAD), South African rand (ZAR), Turkish lira (TRY), Swiss franc (CHF), UAE dirham (AED), Mexican peso (MXN), Polish zloty (PLN), Czech koruna (CZK), Swedish krona (SEK) and Japanese yen (JPY).
If you’re headed to any of these countries or regions, the Hays travel card may suit you - although it’s worth reading on to check out the fees and limits you’ll need to bear in mind if you do decide to get one.
What is the Hays travel card?
The Hays Travel Mastercard is a prepaid Mastercard which can be used to hold and spend a selection of currencies. There’s no fee to spend a currency you hold - although you may pay a fee in the form of a currency exchange markup when you switch from pounds to the currency you need on your travels.
Is the Hays travel card a multi-currency card?
The Hays travel card is a multi-currency card which lets you hold a balance in multiple foreign currencies. Around 16 currencies are supported, although it’s worth remembering when you top up you may pay a fee to switch from GBP to the currency you need.
We’ll compare the Hays Travel Mastercard with a couple of other cards including the Wise card and the Revolut card a little later. Both of these providers have a broader selection of supported currencies, which means you can easily add money in pounds and switch to the currency you need in advance, or just let the card do it for you, with relatively low overall fees and a fair exchange rate.
Alternatives to Hays travel card
The Hays travel card supports a good range of popular currencies, but it’s also got quite a few fees to consider before you pick one up.
To help you decide if the Hays travel card is right for you, let’s look at it alongside a couple of other popular alternatives:
Information taken from Hays Travel Mastercard desktop site and Terms and conditions , Wise pricing page , Revolut international transfer fees .pdf) and Revolut UK ; correct at time of writing, 16th May 2023
You’ve got a pretty strong range of options for travel cards if you’re planning on picking one up in the UK. Comparing a few is the best way to make sure you get the best available based on your specific needs. The Hays Travel Mastercard is a handy option as you can collect one in store, and add any of the 16 or so supported currencies, but it may not be the absolute best value out there. Shopping around is the smart way to make sure you get a good deal.
Create a Wise account online or through the Wise app to access a range of convenient features, including the option to securely hold and exchange over 50 currencies. You can also use your Wise card in over 170 countries , allowing you to spend with confidence wherever you go, with the mid-market exchange rate and low fees starting at just 0.41%.
Read a full Wise review here .
Revolut offers a range of accounts with different features and pricing options. You can choose a basic account with no monthly fees or opt for higher tier plans that come with monthly charges but provide additional benefits and free transactions. Regardless of the account type, you will receive a linked card and can hold more than 25 currencies .
When it comes to currency exchange, Revolut uses the mid-market exchange rate to the limits set out in your account plan, with fair usage charges after that.

Hays travel card fees & spending limits
First, the limits associated with using your Hays travel card:
Let’s look at the costs of using the Hays card when you’re travelling:
Information correct at time of writing - 16th May 2023
Exchange rates
When you get a Hays Travel Mastercard you can top up in pounds or in a foreign currency supported by the card. When you top up in pounds, there’s a 2% fee - and when you add money in a foreign currency, the chances are that there’ll be a markup added to the exchange rate used to switch your pounds to the required currency. That’s also a fee, but it’s a bit trickier to spot. Compare the rate offered by Hays against the mid-market rate you can get from Google, to see how much markup is added.
Once you have a balance in a foreign currency it’s free to spend it. However, if you’re spending in an unsupported currency, or if you don’t have enough balance in the currency required to cover the costs of your purchase, you’ll pay a 5.75% foreign transaction fee.
How to get a Hays travel card
To get a Hays Travel Mastercard you’ll need to be over 18 and a UK resident. You can collect a card in a Hays store or order online.
What documents and information you’ll need
When you apply for a Hays travel card you may be asked to show some proof of identity and address. This is part of the verification process - it’s required by law, and used to keep customers and their accounts safe.
How to use a Hays travel card?
Top up your Hays card online or in a Hays branch, to make sure you have the currency you need when you’re away. You can then spend on your Hays travel card anywhere you see the Mastercard symbol. You may also be able to add your card to your preferred mobile wallet like Apple Pay or Google Pay.
You can also make cash withdrawals, with variable fees based on the currencies involved.
How to withdraw cash with a Hays travel card?
Withdraw cash with your Hays travel card as you would with any other debit or credit card. There are variable fees based on the currency you’re withdrawing:
Is the card safe?
Yes. Hays issues travel money cards through a partnership with PrePay Technologies Limited, which is an Electronic Money Institute overseen by the FCA in the UK. The card is also issued under licence from Mastercard. By using an FCA regulated provider you’ll know the Hays travel card is covered by all relevant protections, and safe to use as long as you take normal common sense precautions like never sharing your PIN.
How to use the Hays travel card overseas?
To use your Hays card you’ll first need to add funds in the currency of your choice. Don’t forget, there’s a 5.75% fee if you don’t hold the currency you need to spend, so make sure you’ve got everything you need loaded into your account before you start shopping.
You can use your Hays travel card internationally, anywhere you see the Mastercard symbol. Mastercard is well supported globally, so the chances are that you’ll be able to use it wherever you’re headed. There are a few unsupported countries and regions, usually due to international sancthions - at the time of writing this includes Iran, North Korea and Crimea.
Conclusion: is the Hays travel card worth it?
The Hays Travel Mastercard is convenient as you can collect one in a Hays store, or order online. It also supports a pretty solid range of currencies which are commonly used by Brits when they travel. However, it’s worth comparing the fees and rates available with Hays to a few other providers before you sign up, as you may find it’s not the absolute best value travel card in the UK.
As a comparison, take a look at the flexible multi-currency accounts available from alternatives like Wise and Revolut. You can add funds in pounds and switch to the currency or currencies you need, often with the mid-market rate and low fees. If you don’t have the currency you need in your account there’s no high foreign transaction fee - instead your card will just autoconvert with the lowest available fee, based on the provider. With Wise that’s as little as 0.41%, while Revolut offers some fee free conversion, with 0.5% fair usage fees once you hit your plan limits.
Hays travel card review FAQ
The Hays travel card can hold and exchange 16 currencies. You can spend and make withdrawals anywhere you see the Mastercard logo - but it’s worth bearing in mind that a high 5.75% fee applies to spend a currency you don’t hold in your Hays account. If you want to compare your options to look for lower fees, check out alternatives from providers like Wise and Revolut.
The Hays travel card can be used at home and abroad anywhere you see the Mastercard symbol. It’s free to spend any currency you hold, with a 5.75% fee to spend an unsupported currency, or if you don’t have enough balance in the required currency to cover your purchase. If you want more currencies and a different fee structure which can work out cheaper, check out the multi-currency accounts from a service like Wise or Revolut.
If the Hays travel card isn’t right for you, there’s lots of choice out there. Have a look at travel debit cards from a provider like Wise or Revolut as a different option that can come with a broader selection of supported currencies - and, often, lower overall fees.

Bought £400 worth of Euros
I went to check if my euros I had ordered online were available at the Douglas branch. (having not received a phone call, as it said in the email that I would). There was a queue, with 1 person serving, which was fine. I asked the Manager if the euros were likely to be ready, rather than queueing for no reason. She told me in an abrupt manner that they were very busy and someone would definitely have rung and told me. I replied that I had no missed calls. I then waited to be served (by a very pleasant gentleman). He got the euros ready for me. I wasn't in too much of a hurry for them, but the way the Manager spoke to me was condescending and quite frankly, rude.
Hays Travel replied

Hays Travel Card refused to work. The emergency service their bumph advertised is just not there. Hays Travel Card say that they use Mastercard but actually they use pre paid card management services who have bought the right to use the Master card logo.

I have a have a Hayes pre paid travel card which was stolen in Valencia. I reported it immediately and was told by the agent I spoke to that iy had been cancelled.
I then found out over 450 Euros had been withdrawn on it.
Since then it has been a nightmare, they have stated that I hadn't lost any money even though the balance on my card contradicts this. They also referred to a date in May when the card was stolen on the 5th. August.
Since then they have refused to answer my legitimate questions so I would advise people not too take out this card, Terrible customer service.
Good Evening Peter,
Thank you for taking the time to provide this review.
I am sorry to hear that your card was stolen and this situation hasn't been resolved.
As we don't have access to Mastercard's systems I wouldn't be able to view anything on your behalf.
If you aren't getting anywhere directly with Mastercard via the phone you could also email them on [email protected].
Take care and kindest Regards

Twice I have used the Hays Travel Money services to buy the GBP. I highly appreciate the quality of welcome and services.
Your rate of exchange is competitive but only bitten by one (Post Office). But in return you bit the Post Office by the quality of your services. In Dunfermline Aiden has been always wonderful customer care guy! The service is straight, quick, secure. All promises of later transfer are held securely, even prior to time given!
Congratulations!.

Ordered some currency online and collected in store. Agnes in the Forrestside store was exceptionally helpful with a friendly phone call to let me know when to collect my currency.
Good morning Colin.
Thank you for leaving us a 5* review - this is much appreciated.
Come back and see us again soon.
This is my second review I’ve put on here these past few days and my first review hasn’t shown up from Saturday 31st..
I just want to send a message to say a huge Thank You to Kat that works on the currency counter at Leeds, whiterose. Every time we attend Hays for currency, Kat is so lovely & nothing is too much trouble. On Saturday 31st, Kat was having computer system problems but Kat remained calm and was as amazing and as kind as ever. Just wanted to give Kat a special mention, she deserves it.
Thank you for your excellent review Michaela.
It can take a few days for reviews to come through to us and show on the Compare Holiday Money site.
I am glad to see you are happy with the service you received from Kat in the Leeds branch - Your glowing 5* review means so much. Thanks for taking the time to let us know - we really appreciate your custom and the compliments regarding Kat. These are definitely well deserved.
Kind regards

Great experience in my local branch, got a great rate and brilliant customer service. We Went to Turkey and was unable to use the card in a lot of places. Went with Jet2, it wouldn’t even work with them. We ended up having to use our own cards and still have money on our card.

Making transfers to your friends and family in Russia shouldn't be a hassle. In fact, knowing the options available enables you to make optimal decisions. This guide will help you explore the different ways you can send money to Russia.
Ways to Send and Receive Money in Russia
There are multiple ways to easily send and receive money in Russia but these will largely depend on the provider you decide to use. Below you will find everything you need to know about the best ways to send money to Russia.
What ways can I send money to Russia?
You can send money to Russia using these different methods:
Money Transfer Providers: Money transfer providers are your best option if you're looking for the quickest and most affordable way to send money to Russia. Compared to alternatives like banks, these services often offer the most reasonable exchange rates at lower fees. Additionally, they guarantee quicker transfers, and you can typically find user-friendly apps for each provider to simplify the procedure.
Bank Wire Transfers: Generally, using a money transfer company rather than a bank is preferable when making foreign transactions. International wire transfers are typically carried out by banks via the SWIFT network, and they frequently take a few days to process. The cost may increase because the money must pass through numerous intermediate or correspondent banks, each of which charges a fee.
International money orders: International money orders were originally more common, but their use has decreased due to their sending limits and exorbitant costs. Digital wallets can occasionally offer a quick substitute, although their charges are typically far higher than those of money transfer companies.
What ways can I receive money in Russia?
There are various ways to receive money in Russia, each with multiple benefits and considerations:
Bank deposits: Receiving money through bank deposits is simple and secure. The funds will be transferred directly to your bank account , but the processing could take several days. This is considered a good alternative as Russian banks are widely available and offer a convenient way to receive your funds.
Cash pickups: A good option if you need your money urgently, these may come at significantly higher rates. You’ll be able to pick it up as soon as the sender completes the transaction. This could be the easiest way to receive your money if you have a nearby pick-up location. Providers like Western Union, MoneyGram , and Ria Money Transfer have numerous pick-up locations across Russia.
Digital Wallet: Certain providers allow you to transfer money straight to the recipient's digital wallet on their phone. This method is beneficial for individuals who don't have access to bank accounts or local agents. Prominent digital wallets in Russia include Yoo.Money and Qiwi, which are widely used and accepted.
How can I pay for my money transfer to Russia?
There are various ways to pay for your transfer when transferring money to Russia. Here is a list of your principal payment options:
Bank Transfers: This is usually the least expensive method, but processing times may be longer. While it’s one of the safest ways to send money directly from your bank account to the recipient's account, processing times vary depending on the banks and nations involved.
Debit Cards: These are a quicker choice, although the fees associated with currency conversion can be significantly higher. Debit cards offer a convenient option for speedy transfers, but make note of the extra fees involved.
Credit Cards: Credit card payments allow for quick and convenient transactions but also come with hefty fees for cash advances and currency conversion. Additionally, because cash advance transactions frequently carry higher interest rates, the cost of the overall transfer rise by a substantial amount.
Mobile wallets: Mobile wallets are great for quickly sending small amounts of money. Services for wallets like Yoo.Money and Qiwi are popular in Russia but watch out for additional processing costs that might be tacked on to your transaction.
What is the best way to send money to Russia?
Bank transfers through a money transfer company frequently stand out as the best way to send money to Russia for several reasons. These services specialize in overseas transactions and offer quicker and less expensive ways to transfer money to Russia than alternatives. Bank transfers leverage technology and international networks to ensure a secure and speedy transfer resulting in considerable cost savings.
Western Union, MoneyGram, Ria Money Transfer, and Xoom are Russia's top money transfer companies. They combine effectiveness, affordability, and coverage in Russia, making them a popular choice. Make sure to evaluate all your options and select the one that
best meets your needs.
Although credit card and debit card payments are also available as alternatives and offer a quick turnaround, their costs are typically greater. This may include transaction fees, currency conversion fees, and other processing charges. You can also opt for SWIFT wire transfers for secure transactions, which can take significantly longer to process and include additional fees.
How long does it take to send money to Russia?
Depending on the method and service provider you select, the time it takes to transfer money to Russia can vary.
When sending money for cash pickup, Western Union offers speedy transactions. Bank transfers, however, could take 1-2 business days.
Bank transfers may take up to 3 business days. However, MoneyGram offers the option of fast cash pickups.
Xoom transfers are often finished in minutes for cash pickup, but bank transfers could take up to two business days.
Your money transfer's speed may be impacted by several factors, including:
Amount: Due to additional security procedures, more considerable sums could take longer. Several inspections are required to comply with international anti-money laundering and fraud protection standards.
Timing : When you start the transfer, the speed might also be affected. Transactions initiated after a bank's cutoff time are typically processed the following business day. Weekends and federal holidays might also cause delays in the transfer procedure.
Remember that the recipient's bank processing times, the currency route, and the payment mechanism used to fund the transfer can all affect how quickly money is transferred. When organizing your money transfer to Russia, always keep these points in mind.
What is the fastest way to send money to Russia?
If speed is your priority when sending money to Russia, money transfer providers offer the fastest way to send money to Russia: The quickest solutions are usually via Western Union, MoneyGram, Ria Money Transfer, and Xoom. This is because the providers can bypass the slower SWIFT network used by conventional banks by opting for their global network of bank accounts.
You can also opt for debit or credit card payments for a speedy transfer. However, remember that these procedures could incur higher costs than bank transfers.
The easiest way for recipients to receive the money is often to arrange for a cash pickup. Cash pickup is a practical and quick option because of the numerous agent locations offered by services like Western Union, MoneyGram, and Ria Money Transfer throughout Russia.
Keep in mind that sometimes the fastest transfer isn’t always the cheapest, so make sure you know what you’re prioritizing when reading up on your options.
How much does it cost to send money to Russia?
The cost of your transfer is usually made up of a transfer fee, an exchange rate markup, or both when sending money to Russia. The transfer charge varies from provider to provider and might be a set amount or a percentage of the amount you send. A company like Xoom might charge a cost that is a percentage of the transfer amount, whereas Western Union might charge a flat fee instead.
In addition to the transfer fee, the exchange rate typically carries a markup. The rate at which banks exchange money with one another is referred to as the mid-market rate or interbank rate. However, money transfer companies frequently apply a markup on this rate, so when you send money, you'll receive slightly less than the mid-market rate.
The cost of sending money to Russia from overseas largely depends on whether the provider charges a transfer fee, an exchange rate markup, or both. For instance, Baltic Transfers might charge a flat fee of £3 for transfers from the UK to Russia but always provide the market exchange rate. Hence, your total cost will always be £3.
Similarly, another provider like RubleRelay may not impose any fees for sending money from France to Russia, but they mark up the exchange rate. Therefore, the total cost of sending €10,000 might be around 2,000 rubles, while the cost of sending €20,000 could be approximately 4,000 rubles.
To get the most affordable solution, it’s essential to consider your options, given the wide-ranging transfer fees and exchange rates among providers. MoneyTransfers.com can help with that. Our platform gives you the best opportunity to locate the least expensive method of sending money to Russia by allowing you to compare several providers, their fees, and their exchange rates in one location.
Ensure your money goes further when you send money to Russia by understanding the expenses involved and comparing providers.
What is the cheapest way to send money to Russia?
The cheapest way to send money to Russia is to use a money transfer service and pay with a bank transfer. The processing time for bank transfers may take a day or two, but the cost reductions frequently outweigh the slightly longer transfer time.
Bank transfers to Russia are made possible by a number of service providers, such as Western Union, TransferWise, and MoneyGram. It's important to check several providers to find the most affordable choice, as the prices can vary based on the amount and currency you’re transferring.
Due to processing costs and currency translation charges levied by the card issuer, paying for your transfer with a debit or credit card is often more expensive. Bank transfers, on the other hand, typically have lower or fewer fees.
Additionally, using a money transfer service is frequently less expensive than sending money directly via the SWIFT network. SWIFT transactions may be subject to extra charges from intermediary banks. For instance, major banks like HSBC or Barclays may charge $15 to $45 for each international transfer, not including the additional costs levied by the receiving bank and any intermediary institutions.
The most cost-effective way to send money to Russia is usually through a money transfer service and payment via bank transfer. To ensure you're getting the greatest rate, comparing several services on websites like MoneyTransfers.com is always advised.
What do I need to send money to Russia?
When sending money to Russia, you’ll need to provide the following:
1 Personal information : This usually consists of your name, address, phone number, and photo ID, like a passport or driver's license. For security reasons, some providers might need further identification verification.
Recipient information: Along with their location and phone number, you must also provide their full name as it appears on their ID. You'll also need their banking information if you send money directly to their bank account. Russia employs an international bank account number (IBAN) and a bank identification code (BIC), commonly called a SWIFT code.
Payment method: Money transfer companies generally accept debit, credit, and bank transfers. For individuals who prefer digital banking, several providers also let you pay using mobile wallets, making it more practical.
These specifications may change depending on the money transfer service you select. Therefore, before starting a transfer, always double-check the particular requirements of your preferred provider.
What do I need to receive money in Russia?
You must present a legitimate form of identity, such as a Russian passport or a Russian Federation citizen ID card, to receive money in Russia. Additionally, you'll need to know the sender's full name and address and the precise sum you anticipate receiving. This makes it possible to match the transfer to you properly. Obtaining this from the sender is vital because some money transfer firms may call for a transaction reference number. Always check the particular requirements of the money transfer service before beginning the process.
Do I pay tax on money transfers to Russia?
Since Russia doesn't charge taxes on incoming international money transfers, you often don't have to pay taxes on money you send to Russia from abroad. However, different rules may apply if the money is used for paying employees or purchasing a property. Speaking with a tax professional or lawyer is a good idea to understand any potential tax repercussions fully.
It's crucial to understand that Russia, like many other nations, has policies to stop money laundering and other illegal activity. As a result, some high-value transactions might be scrutinized and require more paperwork.

How a foreigner can bring money & pay in Russia in 2024
After sanctions were imposed, major international financial companies suspended their operations in Russia. Therefore, Visa, MasterCard and American Express cards can no longer be used to pay in a store or withdraw cash from an ATM. Because of this, tourists and business people have to look for alternative ways of paying or obtaining money.
1. Import of currency: $ 10,000 without declaration
You are allowed to bring dollars, pounds, euros, yen and other currencies into Russia. However, amounts greater than the equivalent of $10,000 in cash at the exchange rate of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation on the day of crossing the border must be declared. In the declaration, it is necessary to specify the entire amount carried, not only the difference exceeding the limit.
If a traveler is bringing an amount equivalent to more than $100,000 in cash, it will be necessary to explain the origin of the money. For this purpose, a certificate of income, a gift agreement, a certificate of acceptance of inheritance will do. The same rules apply not only to cash currency, but also to other monetary instruments: bills of exchange, checks, bonds in documentary form. Money on bank cards and accounts does not need to be declared.
Passengers with funds over $10,000 pass with completed declarations through the red corridor at customs. Penalties for violating the rules are serious enough – you can lose up to a multiple of the amount carried over the limit, while confiscation of funds and criminal punishment are also possible (depending on the amount). The rules are the same for both air and land borders.
It is also worth remembering that the country from which you will be bringing money into Russia may have its own restrictions on the export of funds. So travelers need to take into account the rules of all upcoming customs controls.
If you plan to leave Russia later, it's necessary to clarify in advance what the limit on cash currency export will be on the date of departure. At the time of publication, there is a ban on the export of cash currency over the equivalent of $10,000; and while it is possible to take out rubles for larger amounts, you must declare it.
Minors are considered to be separate passengers and cash can be distributed between them and their parents within the established limits. That is, for example, if a family of mother, father and child is traveling, they can bring $30,000 in cash currency without declaration with them.
2. A foreigner can open an account in a Russian bank
To make a money transfer to Russia and then pay within the country, it is possible to open an account in a Russian bank and be issued a MIR (Russian payment system) debit card. Foreign citizens have the right to open a Russian bank account in any currency, if the bank has the appropriate license. However, banks generally only conduct transactions in dollars and euros.
To open an account, a foreigner needs to provide the bank with the following:
- passport or identity document
- a notarized translation of this document into Russian
- visa or migration card
Since July 2023, citizens of CIS countries, UAE, Turkey, China, India and some other countries can send these documents remotely – via an intermediary bank in their country. The local bank accepts the necessary documents from the client, checks them and sends them to the Russian bank.
Before transferring funds to an account in a Russian bank, it is necessary to check with the bank of origin whether it conducts transfers to Russia, clarify the amount of commission and be prepared for possible delays in said transaction. In addition, you will only be able to receive a currency transfer in cash after converting it into rubles.
If a foreigner plans to open a bank account and top it while already in Russia, then large, well-known banks are best suited. You will be able to open an account, receive a MIR debit card and immediately be able to deposit the dollars or euros you brought with you, which are converted into rubles, into it via the bank’s cash desk. After this, you can pay with your MIR debit card as usual and link it to any online or app services; for example, taxis, food delivery, etc.
If a transfer to your Russian account is planned from abroad via the SWIFT system, then you should pay attention to banks that have not been subject to strict sanctions and that have not been disconnected from SWIFT. In each specific case, you need to clarify whether the foreign bank works with Russia, whether the Russian bank accepts payments via SWIFT, the size of the commission, the minimum amounts and currency of the transfer (some banks do not accept dollars and euros, but accept yuan), as well as the duration of the transaction (usually, the commission is 1-5%, up to seven working days).
3. Financial services for money transfer to Russia
For money transfers to Russia, you can also use such payment services as ‘Koronapay’ and ‘Unistream’ (mainly works with CIS countries; from European countries the list of counterparties includes Greece, Cyprus and Serbia; the service does not work with the U.S. or Canada), but, before the transaction, you need to check on the official website whether the service still operates with the sending country, the size of the transfer fee and the limit on the transfer. For transfers from Europe and Great Britain, there is ‘Profee’ service, however, this service also does not work in the U.S.
Another service, 'ЮMoney' (YuMoney), issues free instant MIR debit cards to foreign tourists directly at Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport or in its offices in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Nizhny Novgorod. To speed up the process, it is possible to register for the service online before arriving in Russia. A tourist can exchange currency at the airport and credit the rubles received without commission to their card via a Sberbank ATM. Up to 15,000 rubles (approx. $167) can be deposited at one time and up to 600,000 rubles (approx. $6,667) per day.
