Airport and Pier Transfers

Airport transportation.

There's no need to start your vacation with stress. Get your airport-to-ship transportation taken care of with worry-free transfer service from Carnival. You'll also gain access to the cruise terminal as soon as the transfer gets you there, regardless of your arrival appointment time — a small thing that's surprisingly nice on embarkation day! And after the cruise, of course we'll get you to the airport in time for your return flight.

Book your transfer service up to two days prior to your sail date (if you're sailing from Charleston, the limit is five days prior.) Children under two ride for free, as long as they ride on a parent's lap and do not occupy a seat.

One Trip at a Time

Fort Lauderdale’s Port Everglades is a popular starting point for many cruises, and with good reason! However, navigating transportation options to the port can feel overwhelming. This guide simplifies things, laying out all your choices to get you to your cruise ship with ease.

Whether you’re driving your own car and need parking , flying in and require an airport shuttle, or considering a hotel with parking options, we’ll cover all the bases. This way, you can compare and choose the most convenient option for your upcoming adventure.

This post may contain affiliate links. Please read our   full disclosure policy here .

Fort Lauderdale is located about 30 miles north of Miami on interstates 75 and 95 (I-75 and I-95) and these are the routes most drivers will use to get to the port area. Only if you are coming in from further south will you come in on the famous Highway 1 from Key West.

Driving times from nearby major cities are:

  • Fort Myers: 2.25 hours (140 miles)
  • Orlando: 3.5 hours (220 miles)
  • Jacksonville: 5 hours (325 miles)
  • Tampa: 3.75 hours (265 miles)

Click more options , once your route is displayed, to open google maps in a new window

If you want to park at the port, check out the options here ; if you prefer to arrive the night before, check out these hotels which will let you park your car during your cruise if you stay the night.

There are two main airports you can use to get to Port Everglades. Fort Lauderdale airport caters mainly to low-cost carriers and is just a few miles from the port. If you use traditional carriers you may end up flying into Miami, 30 miles to the south.

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport (Code: FLL)

Just 3 miles from Port Everglades, if you can fly into here, your transit to the cruise terminal will be quick and easy.

Miami International Airport (Code: MIA)

The biggest airport close to Fort Lauderdale is in Miami. An American Airlines hub, Miami International is located in the centre of Miami and thirty miles south of the cruise terminal.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Public transport is not really an option from Fort Lauderdale Airport. Whilst you can catch a bus from the rental car   centre , it doesn’t take you close enough to the port to be worth it.

Public transport can take you from Miami to Fort Lauderdale Airport, reducing the cost of one of the options below.

The fastest option is the RedCoach which leaves regularly and takes about 45 minutes to get from Miami airport to Fort Lauderdale airport. It costs between $21 and $41 depending on the time you need to travel. Click here  for more information.

For Fort Lauderdale Airport, a taxi will not be expensive as the port is just a few miles away. Picking up a taxi from the taxi stand at the airport is probably easiest.

For Miami Airport, we advise smaller groups of cruise passengers to use one of the cheaper options available. But if you are a larger group, prices can be competitive with other options. If you want the luxury of a private transfer, the companies below can accommodate you.

Offering minibuses for up to 14,   Airport City Transfer   should be able to meet your transport needs.

Kiwi Taxi can provide private transfers for between 1 and 16 cruise passengers

Uber  and  Lyft will cost between $13 and $19 for a transfer from Fort Lauderdale Airport to Port Everglades and between $55 and $90 for a transfer from Miami International Airport to Port Everglades. These rates are  for the standard Uber X or standard Lyft.

For a discount on your first ride click for UBER or LYFT

With the Fort Lauderdale Airport so close to the cruise terminal, a shuttle probably won’t be your best option. Super Shuttle   can sell you a return transfer for around $60, but it will actually be in a taxi!

From Miami Airport Metro Shuttle Service can get 2 – 9+ passengers to Port Everglades for between $14 and $25 each way.

Renting a car for just a few hours is our favourite way to get to the cruise terminal from the airport. Once we discovered the option and tried it, we found it to be the perfect solution. As long as you don’t mind driving, possibly on the “wrong” side of the road for you, it gives you a private transfer that leaves on your schedule and can be surprisingly competitive with other transportation options.

Given the proximity of Fort Lauderdale Airport and Port Everglades, we would only recommend hiring a car if planning to head out and see the sights, otherwise, it probably doesn’t make sense to use this option. If you do rent a car, you could pay as little as $37 for less than a day’s rental.

But, if you are flying into Miami, this option could make a lot of sense. A small car can be rented for as little as $55 for less than a day, allowing you to drive yourself to the port.

HOTEL TRANSFER

With the cruise port right in the heart of the city and Fort Lauderdale airport just minutes away, it’s worth looking at a hotel which is close to one and provides a shuttle service to the other. Check out our  Fort Lauderdale hotels  section for more information.

CRUISE COMPANY TRANSFER

Paying the cruise company to get from the airport to the ship is rarely good value, especially if more than one or two people need a transfer. But, it does make the transfer easier as you’ve booked everything through the cruise line and therefore can rely on them to get you to and/or from the airport.

7 Easy Ways to Get From the Airport to the Miami Cruise Port

Cruising from Miami? you can’t start your vacation without getting to the terminal first!

Luckily, there are a number of easy ways to get to the Port of Miami whether coming from the Miami International Airport, the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport, or other points in the area.

Port of Miami ship setting sail

The cruise terminal is located on Dodge Island, just across from downtown Miami. It is about 8 miles east of Miami International Airport and 25 miles south of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

Expect the trip to take about 10-20 minutes to get from the Miami airport to the cruise port. Trips take 40 -60 minutes from Fort Lauderdale to the Miami Cruise port, depending on traffic.

Here is a map showing the cruise port in relation to the Miami airport:

The address is 1015 N. America Way, Miami, Florida 33132 if you wish to map your route.

In This Article...

Driving Directions to the Cruise Port

If you plan drive yourself to the ship, then the direction below will get you there.

Coming from north of Miami : Take I-95 South and exit 2D to I-395/Miami Beach. Follow I-395 East over the MacArthur Causeway. Use the left lane to take FL-887/Port Miami Tunnel exit toward Port of Miami. Continue through tunnel and follow signage to designated terminal.

Coming from the south : Take Route 1 or I-95 North and exit 2D to I-395/Miami Beach. Follow I-395 East over the MacArthur Causeway. Use the left lane to take FL-887/Port Miami Tunnel exit toward Port of Miami. Continue through tunnel and follow signage to designated terminal.

Transportation Options to the Miami Cruise Port

If you’re flying in for your cruise, or simply don’t want to worry with the hassle and expense of parking , then there are plenty of transportation options to get to the cruise terminal in Miami.

Below, we’ve covered the main options to get to the cruise port, along with estimated prices from the major airports. Keep in mind that prices can change.

Not sure which option is best for you? Below we’ve covered each, including our favorite recommendations.

For most people, we recommend using Uber or Lyft as they are among the cheapest and most convenient options. If planning to stay in a hotel, then we recommend a Miami hotel with a cruise port shuttle .

Uber/Lyft (Recommended)

mia to fll cruise terminal

Ride-sharing services have opened up a much cheaper and convenient way to get to the port. For a time they were not completely legal, but still heavily used. Now Miami-Dade County has given them full legalization, offering a cheaper and easier way to get to the port.

An Uber/Lyft fare from the Miami airport to the Port of Miami would run approximately $20-$25, compared to $30-$35 for a taxi. If flying into Fort Lauderdale, the fare is around $45 to the Miami cruise port, compared to roughly $80-$90 for a taxi.

Keep in mind these rates are per car, not per person. So a couple or small group traveling together pays the same rate.

Why do we like using Uber/Lyft to the port? For one, they are less expensive than many other options. We also like the convenience of being able to call a car when you are ready instead of being on a tight schedule.

For more details and rates on using rideshare services to get to the Miami port, read our article here . It includes rates from a number of spots around the area, and more details on using the service.

Hotel With Shuttles to the Port (Recommended)

There’s no arguing that South Florida is the cruise capital of the world. With millions of passengers sailing from Miami each year, hotels cater to them by offering perks like shuttles to the cruise port.

Often these hotels offer free shuttles, or shuttles that are free with a hotel package. There are also a number of Miami hotels near the Coral Way trolley, a transit route offering free transportation to the port.

See our full list of 30+ Miami hotels with cruise shuttles here . We also have a number of hotels near the port with shuttles below. If you plan to stay in a hotel the night before, booking one with a shuttle to the port is a smart idea. Hotels near the airport will also likely have a free shuttle from the airport, taking care of getting you from the flight to your hotel, and then from the hotel to the cruise port.

For more details about these hotels, we’ve linked to them on Kayak. If a package is required, you might have to book directly with the hotel.

  • Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay (shuttle with package)
  • Hampton Inn Coconut Grove (shuttle with package)
  • Hampton Inn Miami Airport South/Blue Lagoon (shuttle with package)
  • Hilton Garden Inn Miami Brickell South (shuttle with package)
  • Hilton Miami Airport Blue Lagoon (shuttle with package)
  • Comfort Suites Miami Airport North (free shuttle)
  • Comfort Inn & Suites Miami International Airport (free shuttle)

One thing to note is that we know of no hotels in Fort Lauderdale with shuttles to the Port of Miami . The distance is simply too far for them to offer service.

If you have already booked a hotel in the Miami, give them a call and see if they offer a shuttle to the port.

If you are going from the Miami airport to the cruise terminal, taxis around $30-$35. That’s based on the ride, not per person. So if you are traveling with a family of four, that’s about $8 per person (or $16 round-trip) — a decent deal. As well, unlike shuttles, taxis leave whenever you’re ready. There is no waiting for other passengers.

Expect to pay a bit more if you’re traveling by taxi from the Fort Lauderdale airport due to the longer ride. Taxi fare is an estimated $85 each way from the Fort Lauderdale airport to the Miami cruise port.

Taxis do offer convenience in that they are already there at the airport and waiting to offer a ride whenever you arrive. Just follow the signs to ground transportation when your flight arrives.

Cruise Line Transfers

Many of the cruise lines offer transfer service from the Miami and Fort Lauderdale airports to the cruise terminals.

Carnival, for example, offers a shuttle from the Miami airport to your cruise for $23 one-way/$46 round trip per person. The same shuttle runs about $37 one-way/$74 round-trip per person from the Fort Lauderdale airport.

Cruise line transfers offer convenience, but we also find they can be expensive and restrictive. For instance, many are only available on the day you cruise and the day you depart. So if you’re flying in the day before, then a transfer from the cruise line won’t work.

As well, prices are per person . A family of four taking the Carnival transfer from the Miami airport would pay more than $180 round trip, despite the trip only taking about 10-15 minutes each way.

That’s why we suggest finding alternate ways to the port.

If you are still interested in cruise transfers, you can call your cruise line for more information.

Independent Shuttles to the Port

Skyline of Miami from a cruise ship

In addition to the cruise line shuttles, there are independent shuttles that can get you to and from the port. The difference? They can be much cheaper.

Depending on where you’re coming from, expect the cost to run about $15-25 per person, each way. Obviously it is cheaper to go from the Miami airport compared to Fort Lauderdale because of the distance. There are often discounts for additional passengers.

While rates are pretty low, if you are traveling in a group of three or more, we’d suggest a taxi or Uber/Lyft as they will be comparable in cost but give you a private ride.

We can’t list every shuttle service here as there are quite a few of them. Note that we don’t recommend or suggest against any particular company as we haven’t used them. All of the following, however, can give you a good start for your search.

Shuttle Companies :

  • GO Airport Shuttle
  • Quality Limo Service
  • Express Shuttle Miami
  • South Florida Shuttles

Private Cars/Limos

Some people simply like to go in style. In a place like Miami, that’s easy to do. There are dozens of car services in the area that will pick you up in a private car or limo. In fact, many of the same companies that provide shared shuttle service also have private car service too.

Of course, this service is typically a little pricier. But if you’re splitting the cost among four or more passengers, it can be surprisingly affordable.

We don’t recommend or discourage any of the following car services (we’ve never used them), but provide them as a starting point for you to see what’s available.

Private Car/Limo Companies:

  • Miami Limo Service
  • VIP Miami Limo
  • American Transportation
  • Miami Chaufferurs

Public Transportation (Least Expensive Option)

mia to fll cruise terminal

Despite its reputation as a car-centric area, South Florida does offer public transportation. If you are ok navigating what might be an unfamiliar transit system, it can be a cheap way to get between the Miami and Fort Lauderdale airports to the cruise port. And when coming from the Miami airport, it takes only about 45 minutes.

We have full details of how to use public transport to the cruise terminals here . The general directions and prices are as follows…

Miami International (MIA) to Port of Miami

  • Take MIA Mover at Airport –> Arrive at Rental Car Center/Metrorail Train Station (Free)
  • Take Metrorail Orange Line –> Arrive at Brickell Station or Government Center ($2.25) 2a. If traveling on a weekend, you’ll transfer from the Orange Line to the Green Line at Earlington Heights and then ride to Brickell Station or Government Center
  • Take Miami Trolley (Coral Way Route) –> Arrive at Port of Miami (Free)

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood (FLL) to Port of Miami

  • Take FLA-1 Commuter Connector at airport –> Arrive at Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport Station at Dania Beach for Tri-Rail (Free)
  • Take Tri-Rail –> Arrive at Metrorail Transfer Station ($2.50/$5.00)
  • Take Green Line –> Arrive at Brickell Station ($2.25)

As you can see, while it is cheap (less than $3 if flying into Miami) the public transportation takes some time and at least one transfer to get to the port. For that reason, we recommend other methods for those unfamiliar with the area.

However, we’ve personally done this route from the Miami airport to the cruise port and it was fairly simple. There is also staff along the way that can help with the journey. Note that the trolley drop off at the port is a considerable distance from Terminals A & B (Royal Caribbean and Norwegian) and will require a decent walk.

We took Coral Line trolley from the port (about a 20 minute wait) and rode it around for about 1 hour just to see Miami. The driver (Rodrigo) was great. We caught the train at the Vizcaya station. That was the hardest part but a local helped us buy our tickets – $2.25 each. It was very simple to catch the train. The the people mover was super crowded but also easy. We were travelling with two large rolling suitcases, two roll aboard size cases and one carry on and one personal item. No problem getting them on or off. Thank you for the instructions!!

The Metrorail train to Brickell station (Orange line) is a relatively new train isnt it.. How long would it take to get from Airport Metrorail terminal to cruise terminal, worst and best case scenario ?

The airport is only about 15 minutes away via Uber/Lyft. If anything happens you can just call a car and be there quickly.

are there Uber or Lyft vehicles that will accommodate 5 passengers and their lugguage?

Yes there are. Look for UberXL or Lyft XL. There are designed to fit up to six passengers. Although with luggage as well, we’d suggest getting two vehicles.

I did not find your site helpful at all. I am not a US citizen and when I entered my phone number it was not accepted. I don’t understand how I can book a ride or be able to contact a driver on arrival at airport? Why don’t you have a contact point at Miami Airport or an office. I mean, a place I can make contact. I would like to use Lyft or Uber but it sounds too complicated to me. Best Regards Pat

If you can’t use Uber/Lyft, then we have a number of other options available. For instance, you can just catch a cab from the Miami airport when your flight arrives.

if you port out of Port Canaveral, try looking at GoPortCanaveral.com. They have wonderful packages.

I like how you mentioned many shuttle service options for transportation in Port Canaveral. My husband and I are looking to go on vacation in the area and won’t have a car, so knowing our options is helpful. Thank you for the information about finding a shuttle service from the airport or any city in Florida to get to where we’re going.

Great which shopping mall would you recommend from Hilton airport

PortMiami , known as the “cruise capital” of the world, is recognized as the busiest cruise port. In 2019, the Miami cruise port processed over 6.8 million passengers. The Miami cruise port is home to some of the newest and most innovative ships afloat. If you are planning a cruise from this popular homeport, we outline the Best Ways to Get From the Fort Lauderdale Airport to the Miami Cruise Port.

Best Ways to Get from the Fort Lauderdale Airport to the Miami Cruise Port

Given Miami’s ideal location, this cruise port offers an array of cruise itineraries. Cruisers will find routes to the Caribbean, Mexico, South America, Panama Canal transits, Transatlantic cruises, and more departing from Miami, Florida. Cruisers will also find a variety of ships from most major cruise brands sailing from this homeport.

Best Ways to Get From the Fort Lauderdale Airport to the Miami Cruise Port

While many Florida locals do drive to the port, most cruisers fly here to embark on their cruise vacations.

The closest airport is the  Miami International Airport  (MIA). This airport is located less than 10 miles from PortMiami. Several major airlines do fly to Miami; however, carriers such as Jet Blue and Southwest have hubs in Fort Lauderdale.

Luckily, the  Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport  (FLL) is also located under 30 miles away. With traffic, this trip should take between 45 minutes to an hour.

Despite the distance, several options do exist to ensure you arrive to the ship on time for your cruise. If you are not sure which mode of transportation is best for your next vacation, we compare all of the best ways to get from the Fort Lauderdale Airport to the Miami Cruise Port.

Given the distance from the airport to the cruise terminal, be sure to plan your flights appropriately if you plan to fly in the day of your cruise.

Though, we always recommend cruisers fly the day before to avoid any potential travel delays. We suggest considering a pre-cruise hotel stay before your cruise. If you are flying into the Fort Lauderdale airport, we would recommend securing a hotel in Miami so you are closer to the cruise port in the morning.

Cruise Line Transfers

If you are arriving the day of your cruise, a cruise line transfer from the airport might be the easiest option. Many cruise lines offer an option to book this transportation pre-cruise. Once at the airport, a cruise line representative will check you in and direct you to the next bus departing for your ship.

Best Ways to Get From the Fort Lauderdale Airport to the Miami Cruise Port

These transfers can run upwards of $30 per person depending on the cruise line. Further, the buses run on set schedules, so depending on your flight time, you might need to wait a little while for the next departure time.

While not the cheapest option, the pro of booking a cruise line transfer is that you are guaranteed you will not miss the ship.

Independent Shuttle Services

There are also several independent shuttle options. These services tend to be the cheapest, especially for larger parties.

These shuttle options may include shuttles from the airport to the cruise terminal and/or hotel shuttles (if arriving a day early). Some of these options include  GO Airport shuttle ,  Florida Shuttle Transportation , and more.

Most of these shuttle services offer smaller vehicles rather than a large bus, and they are located right at the airport and cruise terminal for arrivals and departures. Still, they are a shared service and also run on a set schedule.

Though, some companies do offer private transfers as well.

Best Ways to Get From the Fort Lauderdale Airport to the Miami Cruise Port

If you have issues with a reservation or a problem getting to the port, you will have to deal directly with the shuttle service. This is especially true if you arrive late and are worried about getting to the ship on time.

Private Cars

If sharing is not your idea of being on vacation, we understand. There are several reputable companies from which you can reserve a private vehicle that will pick you up at the airport.

The drivers will assist with your bags and make sure you are comfortable during your trip from the Fort Lauderdale airport to the Miami cruise port.

While this will be the most expensive transportation option, this will be a private accommodation and a more upscale vehicle.

When reserving one of these private services, be sure to get a price quote that includes all tolls, airport fees and charges, and gratuities. Some companies will quote a very low price but then tack on all of these additional costs once you arrive.

Shared Ride Services

Shared Ride Services are probably the most popular form of transportation in recent years. This is always our preferred transportation method when on vacation.

Popular apps like Uber and Lyft are allowed to pick-up/drop-off passengers at both the airport and the cruise port. The cost of using these services varies based on the type of vehicle you choose but the average for an UberX is around $40 from Fort Lauderdale to the Miami cruise port. This price is for the entire car not per person.

Best Ways to Get from Orlando Airport to Port Canaveral - Best Ways to Get From the Fort Lauderdale Airport to the Miami Cruise Port

An UberX should have enough room for two people and all your luggage; however, a family of four and all your luggage will probably need a larger vehicle (UberXL).

Of course, the larger vehicle will come with a higher price tag.

The biggest benefit to using these ride share services is convenience. You will meet your private car at a designated location at the airport, and it will drop you off right in front of the cruise terminal.

However, the one issue with this mode of transportation can be quality control. We have had some great and some not so great Uber drivers. Depending on the driver, you might have to load your own luggage into the vehicle. We have also experienced some language barriers.

Similarly, taxis are available from Fort Lauderdale for around $75 each way. If for some reason you aren’t able to find a rideshare driver using the app, a taxi is always a backup.

Public Transportation

If you are up to taking public transportation, it could save you quite a bit of money. You can get from the Fort Lauderdale airport to the Miami cruise port using a combination of the Tri-Rail, the Metrorail, and the Miami Trolley.

Though, this will certainly not be the most convenient or efficient. This entire trip could end up taking you upwards of an hour and a half.

The added time and multiple transfers while lugging around all your bags is certainly not ideal. So, we would only recommend this option if you need to save money on your trip or you are very comfortable with public transportation.

Renting a Car

Technically, you can also rent a car and drive to Miami. When you factor in gas and cost for the car, it might work out to be cheaper than some of the other options, especially for a family of four. However, you will then have to deal with traffic and other associated parking fees.

Port Canaveral Cruise Port - Best Ways to Get From the Fort Lauderdale Airport to the Miami Cruise Port

Even if you are planning to spend a few days in Miami before your cruise, we don’t recommend renting a car. Much of the area near the cruise port is walkable.

Related Post: Best Things to Do in Miami on a Cruise

There is also plenty of public transportation options once in the city, along with Uber/Lyft. Further, if you are looking to go sightseeing, a hop on hop off bus might be the perfect choice. Big Bus Miami has stops located near all the major Miami attractions.

Choosing the Right Mode of Transportation to the Cruise Port

Deciding which form of transportation to take from the Fort Lauderdale airport to the Miami cruise port depends on the preferences of your travel party.

Couples or those who don’t want to be bound to a schedule will probably find a shared ride service to be the best option. Small groups or those looking to save some money will probably opt for a shared transfer from a third party company.

Those travelers looking for shear convenience or first time cruisers might be best just sticking with the cruise line’s offered transportation; whereas, luxury travelers might be best served with a private car. If you are traveling with a larger party, you might want to reserve a private shuttle.

Either way, knowing your options can help you can make an informed decision for your next cruise from PortMiami.

What is your preferred method of transportation from the Fort Lauderdale Airport to the Miami Cruise Port? Which of these services have you used in the past? Drop us an anchor below with your tips for cruising from PortMiami.

Introduction

Embarking on a cruise is an exciting and memorable experience, and if you’re starting your journey from the Miami Cruise Port, you’ll want to plan your transportation to and from the port with ease and convenience in mind. While the port is conveniently located near the heart of Miami, many travelers choose to fly into Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) due to flight availability or cost. This raises the question of how to get from Miami Cruise Port to FLL, as you’ll want to ensure a smooth and stress-free transition between your cruise and your flight home.

Luckily, there are several options available for transportation between the two locations, allowing you to choose the one that best suits your preferences, budget, and schedule. From shuttle services to taxis, ride-sharing services to public transportation, and even rental cars, there’s a solution that will suit every traveler’s needs. In this guide, we will explore the various options in detail, highlighting the pros and cons of each to help you make an informed decision.

Whether you’re a seasoned cruiser or embarking on your first voyage, navigating the logistics of traveling between the Miami Cruise Port and FLL can seem daunting. However, with careful planning and knowledge of the available options, you can ensure a smooth and efficient journey, allowing you to focus on enjoying your cruise and creating unforgettable memories.

Option 1: Shuttle Service

One of the most convenient and hassle-free ways to get from the Miami Cruise Port to FLL is by using a shuttle service. These services offer transportation between the two locations, ensuring a seamless transition for travelers. Many cruise lines and independent companies provide shuttle services specifically tailored for cruise passengers.

The shuttle service usually operates on a scheduled basis, with designated pick-up and drop-off points at both the Miami Cruise Port and FLL. The advantage of using a shuttle service is that it eliminates the need for you to navigate through unfamiliar roads or worry about parking. Additionally, by choosing a shuttle service provided by your cruise line, you can enjoy the peace of mind of being transported by a trusted and reliable source.

Another benefit of using a shuttle service is the convenience of having your luggage transported along with you. You won’t have to worry about lugging your bags around or finding adequate storage space. Instead, you can relax and enjoy the journey knowing that your belongings are taken care of.

When considering a shuttle service, it’s important to check the schedule and availability in advance. Some services may require booking in advance, while others may operate on a first-come, first-served basis. It’s advisable to inquire about the cost and any additional fees associated with the shuttle service to ensure it fits within your budget.

While shuttle services offer convenience and peace of mind, there are a few potential downsides to consider. Depending on the number of passengers, the shuttle service may make multiple stops along the way, potentially increasing travel time. Additionally, the schedule may be rigid, leaving you with limited flexibility if you have specific timing requirements.

In summary, utilizing a shuttle service to travel between the Miami Cruise Port and FLL offers convenience, reliability, and the assurance that your luggage will be taken care of. However, it’s important to consider any potential travel time increases and limitations on schedule flexibility when choosing this option.

Option 2: Taxi

If you prefer a more direct and individualized transportation option, taking a taxi from the Miami Cruise Port to FLL may be the ideal choice for you. Taxis are readily available at the port and provide a convenient door-to-door service.

When opting for a taxi, you’ll have the advantage of flexibility and convenience. Taxis allow you to depart at a time that suits your schedule, without having to adhere to specific shuttle or public transportation times. Additionally, if you have a lot of luggage or prefer a more personalized experience, a taxi offers ample space and a comfortable ride.

Taxis can also be a time-efficient option, as they typically take the most direct route to your destination. This can be especially important if you have a tight connection or need to catch a flight at FLL. Furthermore, taxi drivers are usually familiar with the area and can navigate through traffic or unexpected road closures to ensure a smooth journey.

When it comes to the cost of a taxi, it’s important to remember that fares may vary depending on factors such as distance, traffic conditions, and time of day. It’s advisable to ask the driver for an estimated fare before starting your journey to avoid any surprises. Additionally, be aware that there may be additional charges for luggage or tolls along the way, so it’s best to clarify these details beforehand.

While taxis provide numerous benefits, there are a few factors to consider. The cost of a taxi ride from the Miami Cruise Port to FLL can be higher compared to other transportation options, especially if you’re traveling alone. It’s important to factor this into your budget and evaluate whether the convenience and individualized service outweigh the potential higher cost.

Overall, if you value a direct, flexible, and personalized transportation option, hailing a taxi from the Miami Cruise Port to FLL is a viable choice. It offers convenience, efficiency, and will get you to your destination with minimal hassle.

Option 3: Ride-sharing Services

In recent years, ride-sharing services have gained immense popularity, providing a convenient and cost-effective means of transportation. Using a ride-sharing service like Uber or Lyft is another option to consider when traveling from the Miami Cruise Port to FLL.

Ride-sharing services offer several advantages, including the ease of booking through a mobile app and the ability to monitor the arrival and estimated time of your driver. These services also provide a door-to-door experience, similar to taking a taxi, but with the added convenience of cashless transactions.

One of the key benefits of ride-sharing services is the affordability. They often offer competitive pricing, especially for solo or small group travelers. This can be particularly appealing if you’re looking to keep your transportation costs low. Additionally, ride-sharing companies often provide options for different vehicle sizes, accommodating larger groups or individuals with extra luggage.

Another advantage of ride-sharing services is the convenience of scheduling your pick-up time. Whether you need to catch an early morning flight or have a late-night arrival at FLL, ride-sharing services operate 24/7, allowing you to travel at any time that suits your needs.

It’s important to keep in mind that ride-sharing services rely on drivers who use their personal vehicles, which means availability may vary depending on the time of day and location. It’s advisable to check the app for availability prior to your desired departure time to ensure you can secure a ride.

While ride-sharing services offer convenience, affordability, and flexibility, there are a few factors to consider. Similar to taxis, the total cost of your ride may depend on factors such as distance, traffic, and any additional fees or surcharges. It’s also worth noting that peak travel times or high demand could result in surge pricing, where fares increase due to increased demand.

Option 4: Public Transportation

If you are looking for a budget-friendly option and don’t mind navigating public transportation, utilizing the local bus or train system is a viable choice to travel from the Miami Cruise Port to FLL.

One of the primary benefits of using public transportation is cost-effectiveness. The fare for a bus or train ride is typically much lower compared to other modes of transportation. This can be especially appealing if you are traveling on a tight budget or prefer to allocate your funds towards other aspects of your trip.

The public transportation options in Miami include the Metrobus and Metrorail. The Metrobus has several routes that can take you from the Miami Cruise Port to downtown Miami, where you can transfer to the Metrorail. From there, you can continue your journey to the Tri-Rail station near FLL, which provides a direct connection to the airport.

While public transportation offers affordability, it’s important to consider a few factors. First, the journey may take longer compared to other modes of transportation due to multiple stops and potential traffic. It’s essential to plan your schedule accordingly to allow for any extra travel time.

Another factor to consider is the convenience of carrying your luggage. Public transportation may not have sufficient space or designated areas for luggage, so you will need to ensure that you can manage your bags comfortably during the journey.

Additionally, if you have a lot of luggage or if you are traveling during peak hours, public transportation may not be the most comfortable option. Buses and trains can get crowded, and you may find yourself dealing with limited space or standing for the duration of the journey.

In summary, if you are on a budget and don’t mind the potential longer travel time, utilizing public transportation can be a cost-effective option to get from the Miami Cruise Port to FLL. However, it’s important to consider the potential challenges of carrying luggage and potential crowding during peak hours.

Option 5: Rental Car

If you prefer the freedom and flexibility of having your own transportation, renting a car is a convenient option to consider when traveling from the Miami Cruise Port to FLL.

Having a rental car gives you complete control over your travel itinerary. You can choose your departure time, make stops along the way, and explore different attractions or restaurants if you have some extra time before your flight. This option is especially beneficial for those who enjoy independence and want to customize their travel experience.

Renting a car also eliminates the hassle of relying on transportation schedules or coordinating with other passengers. You can travel at your own pace, without having to wait for shuttle buses or taxis.

Furthermore, renting a car provides ample space for your luggage, ensuring a comfortable and secure journey. You won’t have to worry about sharing limited space with other passengers or navigating public transportation with bulky suitcases.

However, it’s important to consider a few factors when opting for a rental car. First, be aware of any additional costs associated with renting a car, such as insurance, fuel, tolls, and parking fees. These expenses should be factored into your budget to avoid any surprises.

It’s also essential to plan your route in advance and familiarize yourself with the roads and potential traffic conditions. While GPS systems and smartphone apps can provide navigation assistance, it’s always a good idea to have a general idea of the route you’ll be taking.

Returning the rental car at FLL is relatively straightforward, as there are designated areas to drop off the vehicle. However, it’s essential to allocate enough time for the return process to ensure you don’t run into any last-minute delays before your flight.

In summary, renting a car offers freedom, flexibility, and ample space for your luggage when traveling from the Miami Cruise Port to FLL. It’s important to consider associated costs and plan your route and return process in advance to make the most of this option.

When it comes to getting from the Miami Cruise Port to FLL, there are several transportation options to choose from, each with its own advantages and considerations. Whether you prefer convenience, affordability, flexibility, or independence, there’s a solution that suits your needs.

If you prioritize convenience and want a hassle-free experience, utilizing a shuttle service provided by your cruise line can be a reliable choice. It offers scheduled pick-up and drop-off, allowing you to travel without worrying about navigation or parking.

Taxis provide a direct and personalized transportation option, ideal for those who value flexibility and door-to-door service. While they may be a bit more expensive, they offer convenience and efficiency, particularly for individuals or small groups.

Ride-sharing services like Uber or Lyft provide an affordable and convenient option for getting from the Miami Cruise Port to FLL. With their user-friendly apps and competitive pricing, they offer a reliable solution for both solo travelers and groups.

If you’re on a budget and don’t mind navigating public transportation, using the local bus or train system can be a cost-effective option. While it may have longer travel times and potential space limitations, it offers affordability and an opportunity to experience the local transit system.

Lastly, renting a car provides the utmost freedom and independence, allowing you to plan your own itinerary and travel at your own pace. While this option offers convenience and ample space for your luggage, it’s important to consider additional costs and plan your route and return process in advance.

In conclusion, the choice of transportation from the Miami Cruise Port to FLL ultimately depends on your personal preferences, budget, and specific travel requirements. From familiarizing yourself with the ship’s policies on ironing to using a steamer for delicate fabrics, I will provide you with all the information you need to know.

I will also offer advice on handling emergencies with wrinkled clothing and explore the option of using a laundry service. So, whether you are a seasoned cruiser or embarking on your first voyage, this article will help you navigate the world of ironing clothes on a cruise ship with ease.

  • Familiarize yourself with the ship’s ironing policies before your cruise.
  • Consider packing wrinkle-resistant clothing to minimize the need for ironing.
  • Locate ironing facilities on the ship, or explore alternative methods like garment steamers or using steam from a hot shower.
  • Use proper ironing techniques and handle emergencies with wrinkled clothing by using alternative methods or utilizing laundry services on the ship.

Familiarize Yourself with the Cruise Ship’s Policies on Ironing

Before you embark on your cruise, make sure to familiarize yourself with the ship’s policies on ironing. This will help you avoid any surprises and keep your clothes looking crisp and wrinkle-free throughout your vacation.

Most cruise ships have laundry services that offer ironing for a fee. So, you may want to consider utilizing this convenient option. However, if you prefer to iron your clothes yourself, be aware that some cruise ships do not allow guests to bring their own irons due to safety concerns.

In such cases, you can explore alternative methods for removing wrinkles on a cruise ship. For example, you can use a garment steamer or hang your clothes in the bathroom while taking a hot shower. These methods can help you achieve a wrinkle-free look without the use of an iron.

To further minimize the need for ironing, consider packing wrinkle-resistant clothing. These types of garments are designed to maintain their pristine appearance even after being packed in your suitcase. So, you can save time and effort by choosing clothes that are less prone to wrinkles.

Pack Wrinkle-Resistant Clothing

Packing wrinkle-resistant clothing ensures a stress-free and effortlessly stylish vacation experience. Here are four essential items to consider for wrinkle-free packing and ironing hacks:

Choose fabrics wisely: Opt for wrinkle-resistant materials like polyester, nylon, or spandex blends that are less prone to creasing.

Roll instead of fold: Rolling clothes instead of folding them can help minimize wrinkles and save space in your suitcase.

Use packing cubes: These handy organizers not only keep your clothes organized but also help prevent wrinkles by compressing them.

Invest in a travel steamer: A portable steamer is a game-changer when it comes to quickly removing wrinkles from your clothes without the need for an iron.

By following these wrinkle-free packing tips and utilizing ironing hacks, you’ll be able to effortlessly maintain a polished appearance throughout your cruise.

Now let’s explore how to locate the ironing facilities on the ship.

Locate the Ironing Facilities on the Ship

Discover the convenient corners where creases can be conquered on your remarkable voyage. When it comes to ironing your clothes on a cruise ship, you have a few alternatives.

First, locate the ironing facilities on the ship. Most cruise ships provide self-service laundry rooms equipped with irons and ironing boards. These facilities are usually easy to find and accessible to all passengers.

Another option is to take advantage of the benefits of wrinkle-free clothing. By packing clothes made from wrinkle-resistant materials, you can minimize the need for ironing altogether. These fabrics are designed to resist creases and maintain a crisp appearance, even after being packed in a suitcase.

With the ironing facilities and wrinkle-free clothing options available, you can ensure that your clothes are always looking their best while onboard.

Now let’s move on to the next section and learn how to prepare your clothes for ironing.

Prepare Your Clothes for Ironing

To ensure optimal results, it’s imperative to properly prepare your garments prior to ironing. Here are three essential steps for clothing preparation:

Remove any stains: Before ironing, treat and remove any stains on your clothes. Use a stain remover or gentle detergent to target the specific areas and gently blot until the stain is gone.

Sort by fabric type: Separate your clothes into different piles based on their fabric type. This will help you adjust the iron’s temperature accordingly and prevent any damage. Delicate fabrics like silk or lace require low heat, while cotton or linen can handle higher temperatures.

Smooth out wrinkles: Before ironing, hang your clothes in a steamy bathroom or use a fabric steamer to loosen any stubborn wrinkles. This will make the ironing process much easier and more effective.

With your clothes properly prepared, you’re now ready to set up your ironing station and achieve wrinkle-free perfection.

Set Up Your Ironing Station

To set up your ironing station, follow these steps:

  • Arrange your designated area with all the necessary tools and materials.
  • Set up your ironing board in a well-ventilated area, away from any flammable objects.
  • Fill your iron with water and set it to the appropriate temperature for the fabric you will be ironing.
  • Keep a spray bottle filled with water nearby to help remove stubborn wrinkles.
  • Check the garment’s care label before you begin to ensure it can be safely ironed.
  • Start ironing with the collar and cuffs, using firm but gentle pressure.
  • For delicate fabrics, place a clean cloth or towel between the iron and the garment to prevent damage.
  • Remember to iron in a smooth, continuous motion and always iron on the reverse side of the fabric whenever possible.
  • By following these ironing tips and hacks, you’ll achieve crisp, wrinkle-free clothes in no time.

Now, let’s move on to the next section about using the correct ironing techniques.

Use the Correct Ironing Techniques

To achieve professional-looking results, it is important to use the correct ironing techniques. Here are four proper ironing methods to keep in mind:

Start with the right temperature: Adjust the iron to the appropriate heat setting based on the fabric type. This will prevent damage and ensure efficient ironing.

Iron in the correct order: Begin with the collars, cuffs, and pockets, then move on to the sleeves, back, and front. This systematic approach ensures a thorough and wrinkle-free result.

Use steam effectively: Fill the iron with distilled water and activate the steam function when needed. Steam helps relax the fabric fibers, making it easier to smooth out wrinkles.

Maintain a steady motion: Glide the iron smoothly and steadily over the fabric, using straight strokes. Avoid stopping or pressing too hard, as this can cause shiny spots or fabric damage.

By following these ironing techniques, you will achieve professional results. Now, let’s explore how to use a steamer for delicate fabrics.

Use a Steamer for Delicate Fabrics

When using a steamer on delicate fabrics, you can effortlessly remove wrinkles without the risk of damaging the material. Steaming is a great alternative to ironing for these types of fabrics because it uses gentle heat and moisture to relax the fibers.

The benefits of using a steamer are numerous. Firstly, it is quicker and easier to use than an iron, especially when dealing with intricate or hard-to-reach areas. Secondly, steaming is a safer option for delicate fabrics such as silk or lace, as it eliminates the chance of scorching or leaving shiny marks. Additionally, it can also help freshen up garments by removing odors and killing bacteria.

However, it is important to note that not all fabrics can be steamed, so it is essential to know which ones to avoid.

Moving on to the next topic, let’s discuss which fabrics should not be ironed.

Avoid Ironing Certain Fabrics

After learning about using a steamer for delicate fabrics, it’s important to understand that not all fabrics should be ironed on a cruise ship. Avoiding ironing certain fabrics is crucial to preventing damage and ensuring your clothes look their best.

When onboard, it’s best to avoid ironing fabrics such as silk, satin, velvet, and sequins. These delicate materials can easily be damaged by the heat of the iron. Instead, opt for fabrics like cotton, linen, and polyester blends which are more suitable for ironing.

By choosing the right fabrics, you can avoid any mishaps and keep your clothes looking crisp and wrinkle-free.

Now, let’s move on to how to handle emergencies with wrinkled clothing.

Handle Emergencies with Wrinkled Clothing

Don’t fret if you find yourself with wrinkled garments on your vacation – there’s a simple solution to handle emergencies. When it comes to handling emergencies with wrinkled clothing, quick fixes can save the day. Here are some tips to help you quickly smooth out those stubborn wrinkles:

Incorporating these quick fixes into your routine can save you time and stress during your cruise. If you’re still struggling with wrinkled clothes, consider using a laundry service for professional results.

Consider Using a Laundry Service

When it comes to handling emergencies with wrinkled clothing on a cruise ship, one of the best options to consider is using a laundry service.

Not only does this save you the hassle of ironing your clothes yourself, but it also offers a range of benefits.

First and foremost, a laundry service on a cruise ship is convenient. You can simply drop off your wrinkled garments and pick them up later, perfectly pressed and ready to wear.

Additionally, these services often offer alternatives to ironing, such as steam pressing or garment steaming, which are gentler on delicate fabrics. This ensures that your clothes are treated with the utmost care and maintain their quality.

So, the next time you find yourself with wrinkled clothing on a cruise ship, consider taking advantage of the benefits offered by the onboard laundry service.

Can I bring my own iron on a cruise ship?

No, personal irons are generally not allowed on cruise ships due to safety concerns. However, there are alternatives to ironing on the ship, such as using the ship’s laundry service or packing wrinkle-reducing sprays.

Are there any restrictions on the types of fabrics that can be ironed on a cruise ship?

There are generally no restrictions on the types of fabrics that can be ironed on a cruise ship. However, it is always a good idea to check with the cruise line for any specific guidelines. When ironing clothes on a cruise ship, remember to use the appropriate heat setting for each fabric and avoid ironing delicate or sensitive materials.

Is there a fee for using the ironing facilities on the ship?

There is usually a fee for using the ironing facilities on the ship. However, there are alternatives to ironing, such as using wrinkle-release sprays or hanging clothes in the bathroom while taking a hot shower.

Can I request a professional laundry service to iron my clothes?

Sure, requesting a professional laundry service on a cruise ship is a convenient alternative to ironing clothes. They can professionally press and fold your garments, saving you time and ensuring a wrinkle-free look.

What should I do if I accidentally burn or damage my clothes while ironing on the ship?

If I accidentally burn or damage my clothes while ironing on the ship, it’s important to act quickly. First, remove the garment from the iron and assess the damage. If it’s minor, try using a fabric repair adhesive. If it’s more severe, consider seeking professional help. Remember to always follow clothes ironing safety tips to prevent accidents.

In conclusion, ironing clothes on a cruise ship can be a challenging task, but with the right knowledge and preparation, it’s definitely achievable.

First, familiarize yourself with the ship’s policies regarding ironing. Some cruise lines prohibit irons in cabins due to safety concerns. However, many ships offer ironing facilities in designated areas. Check with the ship’s staff or consult the onboard guide to locate these areas.

Next, pack wrinkle-resistant clothing whenever possible. This will minimize the need for ironing. Fabrics such as polyester, nylon, and spandex are less prone to wrinkles and can be a great option for your cruise wardrobe.

When it comes to ironing, handle delicate fabrics with care. Use a low heat setting and place a clean, damp cloth between the iron and the fabric to avoid direct contact. This will prevent any potential damage to your clothes.

Consider using a steamer for items that cannot be ironed or for quick touch-ups. Steamers are portable and easy to use, making them a convenient alternative to traditional ironing.

In case of emergencies or if you prefer not to iron your clothes yourself, most cruise ships offer laundry services. These services usually come at an additional cost, but they can be a lifesaver if you’re in a pinch and need your clothes to look their best.

In summary, by familiarizing yourself with the ship’s policies, packing wrinkle-resistant clothing, and locating the ironing facilities, you can ensure that your clothes look their best during your cruise. Remember to handle delicate fabrics with care and consider using a steamer for those items. In case of emergencies, there are always alternatives like using a laundry service. So, don’t let wrinkled clothes ruin your cruise experience; be prepared and enjoy your trip to the fullest!

Miami cruise terminal to Fort Lauderdale airport - how much time to allow?

By VidaKB , June 27, 2023 in Florida Departures

Cool Cruiser

Our ship arrives on Sat Aug 26 @ 6am in Miami and I'm hoping to book flights out of the Fort Lauderdale airport.

Assuming we can get off the ship before 9am, would it be advisable to book a flight departing 1130am or noon?  We are TSA pre-approved so a shorter line I expect.  Also less traffic on a Saturday morning vs during the week?

Anyone have experience or insight?  We would likely take an uber from the Miami port to the Ft Lauderdale airport.

Thanks in advance!

MIA to FLL is 28 miles. 35 to 45 minute ride, as always depending on traffic. I would not book before 12pm. We did this a year and a half ago. Departed POM at 9:15 and arrived FLL 40 minutes later, for an 11:55 flight.  Arrange your Uber ride as you are heading down to retrieve your luggage.

in round numbers I'd figure travel time of an hour .... it is doable but probably won't be stress free.

depending on the ships in PE that day Ft Lau' can be as crazy if not more so then MIA

Any reason why you're using FLL instead of MIA...considering the cost and time involved?

Unless the fares are much cheaper. I've been checking for my March 2024 and MIA is less for my cruise end at POM.

For us, FLL offers later departure times, more direct flight options and much less expensive than MIA.  Guess it depends on the destination.  However, we are flying into Miami before the cruise as there were better departure times, more direct flight options and less expensive.  I can't figure out the airline industry!

Maybe you have better  flights in March that the OP does in Aug ??

I had  a flight in Oct MIA to YYZ    the flight was canceled   so next one to get us home same day  is FLL to YYZ

It's always a mystery. Glad you're working out what works best for you.

I got a great rate for my outbound flight (Feb 2024) from LAX-MIA several months ago.

Now I need to book my return flight for March. I didn't book a roundtrip then because I was considering adding a Celebrity cruise onto my RCI cruise which I did.

We are also from Ontario (Toronto)....When we booked our flight out of YYZ to MIA....there were no flights direct...I think AC had one but $$$ , most were stop overs...ugh....So we are doing the FLL which was about 400.00 / person cheaper .... We book SAS Transportation for pick up at FLL airport and drop of at our Miami Hotel the day before the cruise...

Yes seems AC  has cancelled the non stops  from MIA to YYZ   when we are travelling

We always took the 12:20 out of MIA

We have made the trip several times.  Shuttle ride is 30-45 minutes on weekends. We have made flights between 10:30 and 11:00 at FLL no problem.  If you walk off ship usually you can be through customs before 8. The key is walking off.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks everyone -- ended up with a 1pm flight from FLL so should be plenty of time to get there from Miami.

Any suggestions for shuttle service to FLL or should I just take an uber?

Do you have the name of the shuttle service you used?  Just wondering how easy it would be to find your shuttle once you leave the cruise ship terminal.

did you uber or use a service

Ended up taking an Uber but massive traffic jam at the cruise ship terminal as all the passengers were getting picked up.  I think our driver sat in traffic 30 minutes before pulling up to the curb to pick us up.  But then it was smooth sailing all the way to FLL   Was about $50 USD

In December last year we had 8 family members on a cruise and ourselves on a different cruise. We all ended up flying into FLL as it was $$$ cheaper than MIA. We rented a car at FLL and dropped it in Miami near the port. Some family ubered it and some took taxi's to port. In December up til the 23rd they had direct flights to YYZ for $25. It was crazy! We flew Delta booked through Westjet. But the actual planes were WJ. Some family flew Delta -WJ down and Flair back to YYZ. Flair was major expensive but they had booked the return flight way in advance of the flight down as it was important to be back by a specific time on the day the ship docked. So not much flexability.

Hi, our December cruise we used the ship shuttle from POM to FLL. it was only $27pp and booked it on the ship. While waiting for our bus to FLL there were several shuttle services that pulled up to p/u passengers and one couple would ask them how much to get to FLL . The one driver offered $10 to anyone who wanted to go and the most expensive was $50. There were hundreds in the line for the MIA shuttles and when the FLL shuttle finally showed up, they didn't even ask for proof of payment to get on the bus, which surprised me. We had never booked through the ship before. An Uber was $50 as I had looked into costs in advance.

I would definitely do a walk off. If the ship docks ontime and you walk off, you know you'll be there ontime. If you have to wait and then find your luggage, if the people in front of you are slow have an issue it can cause a long delay. We usually walk off but they told us to do the luggage drop the night before if we were taking the shuttle. It was a mess in the luggage area, and people blocking the doors as it was raining so it held up the hundreds of people behind them, everytime a family would stop and have a conversation in front of you.

Princess Cruises Now Has a Train-to-port Service With Florida's Brightline — and You Can Have Your Luggage Delivered to the Ship

Travelers boarding a Princess cruise will now be able to take advantage of the new “Rail & Sail" service from any of Brightline’s Florida stations.

High-speed rail company Brightline is making it easier to catch a cruise in Florida thanks to a new partnership with Princess Cruises.

Travelers boarding a Princess cruise will now be able to take advantage of the new “Rail & Sail" service from any of Brightline’s Florida stations, Princess Cruises shared with Travel + Leisure . The cruise line will then provide a complimentary motorcoach service between either the Orlando or Fort Lauderdale train stations and the embarkation terminal.

Travelers who take the train to the port will also have the ability to opt-in to a new luggage express service, which costs $35 per bag. With the new service, passengers will be able to check their bags upon arrival at the train station and have them delivered directly to their staterooms.

To start, the luggage express service will only be offered on Orlando to Fort Lauderdale trains. Princess plans to add the service on Fort Lauderdale to Orlando trains in the future.

“A Princess cruise is already the best value in travel and this new partnership with Brightline makes it even easier and more enjoyable to sail with us from the top-rated ports in South and Central Florida,” John Padgett, the president of Princess Cruises, said in a statement shared with T+L. “Our guests can just sit back, relax, and let us do the rest, including delivering their luggage directly to their stateroom.”

To celebrate the new train partnership, Princess is offering a credit to use on Brightline’s tickets for passengers who book a cruise through May 5. Travelers who book an interior or oceanview stateroom will receive a $50 per person Brightline credit, passengers who book a balcony or deluxe stateroom will receive a $100 per person credit, and passengers who book a mini-suite or a suite will receive a $150 per person credit.

Brightline first launched in 2018 with service between West Palm Beach , Fort Lauderdale, and Miami before expanding to Aventura and Boca Raton. Last year, the company opened its new route between Miami and Orlando . And in 2026, Brightline plans to add a brand-new stop along Florida’s Treasure Coast.

The company offers the option of both “Smart” and “Premium” fares. Premium tickets include added perks like a dedicated lounge at the departure station, priority boarding, checked luggage, and complimentary snacks and beverages. All Brightline trains come with complimentary onboard Wi-Fi.

Short vs. long cruises: Which one is right for you? Here's how they compare.

mia to fll cruise terminal

Whether you want a weekend getaway or to max out your vacation days, there’s a cruise for that.

Cruise lines offer itineraries ranging from a few days to monthslong . But there are more differences between short and long sailings than just the amount of time guests spend on board. The length of a cruise can help dictate the types of ports passengers visit, the kind of ship they’re sailing on and even the general vibe on board.

“It's important to walk our guests through and for cruisers to think about, what's the experience that they're trying to have,” said Jamie Margolis, owner of Moms at Sea Travel, a Dream Vacations franchise. “So, we try to tease out that information, like, ‘What's your vacation style?’ ”

What can guests expect from short cruises?

Cruises can be divided into those shorter or longer than a week, according to Jared Feldman, owner of travel agency Jafeldma Travel. “So, anything less than that is really considered a short cruise,” he said.

Those around three nights long are often aimed at new-to-cruise guests “who aren’t really ready to commit to seven days but really want to quote-unquote test the waters, let's say – to see if cruising is right for them,” he added.

Those sailings typically feature just one port and a sea day and often visit tried-and-true cruise destinations. Travelers sailing from South Florida ports like Miami and Fort Lauderdale will likely visit Nassau in the Bahamas or one of many cruise line private islands , for example. While those sailing from Galveston, Texas, can expect to stop in Cozumel.

Margolis called three-and-four-night voyages a “great intro to cruising,” albeit with more limited itinerary choices. “Is their dream to go to Saint Kitts? They're probably not going to find that on a short sailing,” she said.

Shorter cruises may also lend themselves more to a party atmosphere and be less kid-friendly. But Margolis noted that’s not unique to cruising. “I mean, it's the nature of travel that short weekends can be celebratory,” she said.

And with diverse onboard offerings – from ship-within-a-ship concepts to kids clubs – passengers can often carve out their own experience.

Cruise lines have new offerings in that shorter category. Celebrity Cruises is launching its first regular weekend itineraries in the Caribbean this month, and Royal Caribbean International’s Utopia of the Seas will offer three-and-four-night sailings when it debuts in July.

What can guests expect from long cruises?

Feldman said any sailing over seven days could be considered a “longer cruise.” Those can range from around 10 days to more than six months. Royal Caribbean is operating a nine-month world cruise to more than 60 countries.

While short cruises “can feel like a bit of a whirlwind,” according to Margolis, longer itineraries offer more time to explore a greater variety of ports. They may feature less-visited destinations such as Aruba and Curaçao and often take place on smaller, older vessels (though ships are refurbished regularly).

That’s partly due to the limitations in places they stop. “Some of the ports … cannot really accommodate this large ship hardware,” Feldman said. “So, you need a smaller-size ship to navigate in and out of these ports.”

The onboard demographic also tends to skew older on those cruises since retired passengers typically have more free time, and travelers with kids are often beholden to school schedules.

If you want a middle ground, though, Margolis said a seven-night cruise “really takes you through what I think is, like, the whole cruise cycle.”

"You get on, you get acclimated, you find all the different amenities, and then you're able to … truly relax, disconnect, unwind,” she said. ‘And then you know, midweek, you start getting your luggage tags, and you go through that mental process of accepting that you're going to have to get off in a couple of days and go back to work.”

At that length, it's also easier to tack on a bit of extra time on the front or back end of the sailing to explore on their own, Feldman added.

Are short or long sailings cheaper?

Because short sailings frequently take place on larger ships, they are “very attractively priced” to help fill the cabins. But that doesn’t mean they’ll always be cheaper than a longer cruise.

A cruise with more stops will have higher port fees, but passengers may book longer itineraries further out and get better fares.

Looking for cheap cruises?: Here's what to know know about finding deals.

“Most times, you're not going to book a three-to-four-night sailing 12 to 18 months in advance,” said Feldman. “You're going to book that much closer in.”

The ship’s age also plays a role in how it’s priced, with shiny new vessels commanding higher rates . “So, there's a lot of different variables in play that kind of dictate where you're going to come out ahead or how much your cruise is ultimately going to cost based on those factors,” said Feldman.
