E Street has it all if you’re in the mood for a strong cup of coffee, a sweet piece of cake, or a filling meal. In need of some shopping? Head over to Dolmen Mall i n the Clifton area. The mall has a mix of local and international brands, food courts, a movie theatre, and even an indoor amusement park for kids. This place is perfect for shoppers and a great place to find some souvenirs.

If you don’t like water activities, no problem! You can just sit back, relax, and enjoy the cool sea air, making it one of the best places to visit in Karachi to relax.

Just a little heads-up, be mindful of where you’re stepping. The island’s got some sharp rocks, and you wouldn’t want to hurt your feet. A pair of covered sandals should do the trick .

Now, if you want to get a taste of the local vibe, I’d recommend trying out the street food in Mubarak Village before or after your island trip. There’s also another beach called French Beach , another fancy beach and a great place to visit in Karachi , which is located near Mubarak Village. It’s usually less crowded than the city beaches , and the sea views are mind-blowing.

10. Visit Bahria Adventure Land

The ticket pricing of Bahria Adventure Land is based on height. If you’re taller than 4 feet 3 inches, you’d be going for the Green Ticket, which is Rs. 3000 . If your height falls between 2 feet 6 inches and 4 feet 3 inches, you’d get the Y ellow Ticket for Rs. 2000 . 

Once you’re there, get ready for a day of thrills and chills! From wild roller coasters to the more relaxed train ride , there’s something for everyone. Not only does it have thrilling rides and water features, but it also hosts a lively marching band and other attractions, which makes it one of the best places to visit in Karachi with friends .

One of the standout features, especially for kids, is the Dino Park . Another major attraction in Bahria Adventure Land is the Day and Night Zoo , also known as Danzoo . It’s the first of its kind in Pakistan, built to international standards. They have a good variety of both exotic and native animals.

A few things to remember when visiting Bahria Adventure Land: wear comfortable clothes and shoes because you’ll be on your feet often. And don’t forget to stay hydrated, especially if you’re visiting during the summer.

You can stop by the food court in the park that serves a variety of local and international cuisines if you are hungry. Or, if you’d rather eat outside the park, you can find various restaurants within Bahria Town .

There’s the ‘ Freak Out ‘ for the thrill-seekers, which swings you around with your legs dangling. If you’re into virtual fun, then ‘ Lazer Maze ‘ is right up your alley. You’ll have to navigate your way through a room filled with laser beams. They also have bumper cars and a carousel for good, old-fashioned fun, making Onederland a hit among the places to visit in Karachi with friends.

Apart from the rides, there’s a huge gaming zone with many arcade games . There’s also a soft play area for kids to run around and have a blast.

But the fun at Lucky One Mall doesn’t stop at Onederland. There’s a whole mall waiting to be explored! It’s a shopaholic’s dream, with many shops selling everything from clothes to electronics . The food court has a variety of restaurants, so you’re guaranteed to find something that tickles your taste buds. If you’ve got some energy left after all that, you can hit the bowling alley for a few games.

Mohatta Palace is a grandiose sandstone mansion that was first constructed in 1927 and served as the residence of Hindu businessman Shivratan Mohatta until the partition of Pakistan and India. Come with an empty stomach, bring along a group of friends, and indulge in all the delicious Karachi specialties that are sold in Burns Road.

Unfortunately, eating street foods is oftentimes a major transmission route for foodborne diseases. Therefore, I advise you to stay away from any foods involving water, ice, or raw ingredients if you have a weak stomach.

Sandspit Beach

Clifton Beach is awesome, but sometimes, we don’t want to be surrounded by loud crowds of tourists and vendors. We want to enjoy a relaxing day by the sea where we can just lie in the sand, have a nice picnic, and have fun in the sea without any worries. In that case, it’s worth taking the longer route to Sandspit Beach, a beautiful and quiet beach in Karachi. Together with similarly calm beaches, like Hawke’s Bay Beach and Turtle Beach, Sandspit Beach is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Karachi if you simply want to get away from the noise of the city. Popular activities at Sandspit Beach involve horse rides, camel rides, and speed boat rides.

Although the area around Sandspit Beach is relatively safe and relaxed, the general rules still apply: dress modestly (a.k.a. no bikinis), be aware of scams, and never leave your belongings unattended. For an even more relaxed atmosphere, try booking a private beach resort in advance.

Not far from Clifton Beach lies Dolmen Mall, an aesthetically designed medium-sized shopping mall, offering a variety of Pakistani and international clothing brands, gift shops, and more. While the selection of stores is rather basic and can be found at any other mall in Pakistan, it’s the ambiance that makes Dolmen Mall one of the most beautiful places to visit in Karachi. From its location by the sea to the beautiful flower-themed decorations covering the mall’s walls and ceilings, there are many small elements that make Dolmen Mall the perfect place to hang out alone or with friends.

If you’re in the mood for big shopping, I recommend a visit to Lucky One Mall instead. Located at the other end of town, Lucky One is the biggest mall in South Asia where you can likely find everything you’re looking for.

Lastly, how could I compile a list of the most beautiful places to visit in Karachi without mentioning Do Darya? Do Darya is home to a collection of sea view restaurants in Karachi’s DHA Phase 8 that besides offering great food have another specialty: they are built on terraces right into the sea! Of course, such amazing views will make your meal taste even better and create the perfect setting for a romantic date or a fun night out with friends in one of the most beautiful places to visit in Karachi.

Although the views are great at all times, the best time to dine at Do Darya is in the evening around sunset. Do keep in mind however that it isn’t recommended for women to visit Do Darya without a male companion in the dark.

Things To Keep In Mind When Visiting Karachi

There’s no doubt you’ll find lots of beautiful places to visit in Karachi, however, it’s important to not get too distracted by the beauty and keep basic customs and safety tips in mind. Below are the major things to keep in mind:

Protect all your valuables when going out. Pickpocketing may not be as common in Karachi as in other parts of the world, but still a concern.

Be careful with the traffic. Karachi’s streets can get crazy busy and pose a risk to both pedestrians and drivers.

It’s not advised for female travelers to venture out alone in Karachi. Always stay in a group or even better, with a trusted male companion.

Be wary of those temptingly delicious street foods. If your stomach isn’t used to Pakistani hygiene standards, you’ll likely get sick at one point or another.

Lastly, avoid crowds since they can not only increase the risk of pickpocketing and sexual harassment but also the transmission of infectious diseases, such as COVID-19.

Sea Ports Areas To Visit in Karachi

Turtle spotting at Turtle Beach

Not only are winters a great time to visit Karachi because of its mild cold weather, but also because it’s the time when you can spot turtles at Turtle Beach. This beach is home to green sea turtles that come out to lay their eggs in the sands. It’s also a good picnic spot.

If you like aircrafts and all things aeronautic, then the Pakistan Air Force Museum is a must-visit. It is home to many aircrafts, like planes and jets and radars and weaponry that have been used by the Pakistan Air Force throughout the years, especially during the 1965 war with India. Nearby, there are World War 1 and 2 scale models and some modern planes on the display as well. There are also food options in the main park and many places to relax in the gardens.

Chaukhandi Tombs

History buffs will go gaga upon visiting this ancient graveyard and UNESCO World Heritage Site that houses tombs of the ancestors of a local tribe. The intricate make of these graves is its most attention-grabbing feature with carvings and designs typical of its region, Sindh. The origins of this necropolis are estimated to range between the 15th and 18th century.

Quaid’s Mausoleum

The pure white marble facade of the museum is not a sight to miss when in Karachi. The Mausoleum is a resting place for the country’s founder, or in Urdu Quaid, Mohammad Ali Jinnah. Its minimalist dome over a cube design was inspired by the Samanid Mausoleum in Uzbekistan.

The ruins of Bhambore

The prehistoric city of Bhambore dates back to the 1st century BC and was constructed during the Scytho-Parthian era. Later, from 8th to the 13th century, it was controlled by Muslims before being abandoned to date. The ruins and one of the earliest known mosques in the world, dating back to 727 AD, can still be found here.

The National Museum of Pakistan

This museum holds the most diverse range of art, from paintings to relics, sculptures and models that depict all the facets of Pakistani culture. This museum consists of 11 galleries that showcase artifacts from the Indus Valley Civilization up to modern times. It also boasts a large collection of coins and many rare manuscripts of the Quran.

Tooba Masjid

Also known locally as Gol, or round mosque, due to its large domed roof, Tooba Mosque is one of the city’s major attraction. The white marble dome is 236 feet in diameter and is balanced on a low surrounding wall with no centre pillars to support it. The mosque can hold a congregation of up to 5,000 people.

Empress Market

The Empress Market is a colourful but chaotic market that sells everything and anything. It’s a cool attraction to visit early in the morning to avoid rush hour. All imaginable groceries, live animals and pets, textiles, stationery and many other things can be bought in the foyers and interiors of this colonial-era structure. The building is named after the then Empress of India, Queen Victoria.

Pakistan Maritime Museum

Being among the few upscale open-air food establishments by the sea, Port Grand is a great place to try different cuisines that are offered by many of its restaurants and parlours, all the while viewing the sun as it sets into the ocean.

Ibn-e-Qasim Park

Do Darya is a local food lover’s paradise, built right along the seashore. There are numerous restaurants and cafes here to choose from, serving all types of fare.

Arabian Sea Country Club

For a quick getaway from the city centre, head to this golf course and sports club to try your hand at shooting or give horseback riding a go. Other facilities include cricket, squash, tennis, snooker and swimming.

Hindu Gymkhana

It also hosts NAPA, or the National Academy of Performing Arts, an art school that also showcases plays for wider audiences. Cape Monze Beach

Cape Monze, or Mount, as it’s locally called, is a beach near Karachi surrounded by a hill where people can climb and get a great view of the horizon and the dark blue sea. It’s also home to endangered species like dolphins, whales and turtles.

Defence Authority Marina Club

There are plenty of not-to-miss activities to engage in at the Defense Authority Marina Club, including sailing, boat riding and dining. The club also has a sweet view of the sea and mangroves with birds like seagulls and herons flying by.

Indulge in a cultural shopping spree at Zainab Market

French Beach is a favorite among locals because of its unique location and private admission. If you have a friend or a friend of a friend, you need not worry because Karachiites are hospitable old bums who will adopt you as their own and make sure that you have all the folly that you possibly can. Also, alcohol on these private sands is not discouraged, unlike in all other public places in Pakistan due to it being illegal.

15 Best Things To Do In Karachi Pakistan

Karachi is the largest city in Pakistan and there are plenty of things to do in Karachi to keep you entertained when there. It’s the most diverse city in the country and has a different feel than the northern cities of Lahore and Islamabad.

Being a massive modern city (around 20 million people depending on who you believe) and the economic powerhouse of Pakistan it’s a place that needs to be explored to be seen.

It doesn’t have epic forts like Lahore or the nearby mountains of Islamabad, but it has its own unique charm where the old and modern collide.

The main areas of Karachi to explore if you are there for a few days are Clifton and Saddar and the places nearby.

Things to do in Karachi

Be aware that being a large, busy city you may get tired out after a few days there. If that’s the case then try and have a day just for beach time or relaxing around somewhere.

Historical Places in Karachi to Visit

Frere Hall in Karachi is an old colonial building built in 1865 that is now a library open to the public. It has around 70’000 books and amongst them are some rare manuscripts.

The building is beautiful and a well-known landmark of Karachi as well as the best colonial-era building to see. Inside it is a peaceful respite from the busy city.

Take some time to relax on a couch in the library and browse through their books. A must-visit if you are interested in old architecture and libraries.

Frere Hall is open from 9 am to 5 pm and if you’re looking for some history and peace then it makes for one of the best things to do in Karachi.

Empress Market Area

Empress market is also set in an old colonial building finished in 1889 and is now a busy, albeit small, market place nearby Jahangir Park.

It’s not the place to go for clothing or souvenir type things (visit the somewhat chaotic market areas to the south of Empress Market for that, such as Zainab Market), but sells fruit, vegetables, condiments, oils, textiles, etc.

The area used to be a lot more vibrant with over 1000 stalls and traders having their shops removed by the government for overcrowding in the area.

The government seems to be trying to gentrify the area but it’s still worth it to go there and have a look around, even if it isn’t the busy place it once was.

The whole area is worth visiting for a feeling of old Karachi, and many old buildings can be discovered, such as St Patrick’s Cathedral which is a ten-minute walk away.

Want a bit of hectic old Karachi? Then this area is one of the best things to do in Karachi for you.

Mazar-e-Quaid (Jinnah Mausoleum)

We didn’t get inside the mausoleum area but saw it from the streetside. It’s an impressive building and is the tomb of Pakistan’s founder, Jinnah.

If you want some of the history of Pakistan then this is one of the best places to visit in Karachi.

Side note: There are some ancient Hindu temples in Karachi that would be great to visit but they only allow Hindus inside, so unless you are Hindu don’t bother trying to see them.

Beaches in Karachi

As Karachi is by the sea there are plenty of beaches to visit by the city and slightly further afield. As the city is massive there is some pollution on the beaches closest to the city with lots of trash. Still, they’re worth seeing as a part of life in the city.

You will need your own transport to get out to the further away beaches.

Clifton Beach

Clifton Beach is the closest to the city and the one you should visit if you don’t have time for others.

Why visit? Don’t go for sunbathing and swimming that’s for sure as there is too much trash for that. It’s best to go there to see the local Karachiites gather on the beach for a sunset walk, a game of cricket, eat at food stalls on the beach, or take a camel or horse ride. It can all be seen.

It’s entertainment on the beach and for that is a must-see and one of the best things to do in Karachi for a locals perspective of city beach life.

Just don’t expect any privacy!

Turtle Beach

Turtle Beach is just down from HawksBay Beach and is a popular beach just like Clifton. It gets crowded, especially on the weekends, and there is a lot of trash.

It’s interesting to see local people out and about. just like Clifton Beach, but quieter. Maybe catch a beach cricket game but if you want some peace, this isn’t the place.

French Beach

I’m only mentioning French Beach here to give a warning. Don’t go! Not because it isn’t nice there, but because it is an exclusive place and you most likely won’t get in. It’s for the rich and influential.

We were told it’s one of the nicer beach areas for less crowds and cleanliness, and it is, and it’s like that because they don’t let people in. We were allowed to enter just for 30 minutes to take a look.

But what’s the point of a short time on a beach?

Mubarak Village Beach

Finally! Well, sort of. Around a one-hour drive from Turtle Beach is the small fishing village of Mubarak.

The main beach has some food sellers and lots of small fishing boats anchored by the beach.

It’s interesting to see but not the beach to swim on. Head south two hundred metres and you will find a long stretch of sand that will most likely have just a few people on it (that’s what it was like for us on a Saturday).

The beach doesn’t have that much trash in comparison to other beaches around Karachi and the water is clean to swim in.

You will get a lot more privacy here than anywhere else we saw, except French Beach where you can’t hang out anyway.

One other good option we were told to do but didn’t have time as it was late in the day is to go to Churna Island.

Churna Island is around 45 minutes by wooden boat from Mubarak Village and apparently has great scuba diving, snorkelling, and fishing.

Museums in Karachi

To be totally honest we didn’t get around to seeing any museums as we were so busy doing other things and spending time with family time during the one week we had there.

Having said that there are a bunch of museums in Karachi that were recommended for us to visit when we come again.

Mohatta Palace Museum

We really wanted to see this one but it was closed for the day when we tried to. Next time!

A rich Hindu businessman from India built it in 1925 and when India was partitioned the businessman remained in India and gave up his palace. Nowadays it’s a museum and looks impressive from the outside for sure, so the inside must be great as well.

National Museum of Pakistan

If you want to learn about the history and culture of Pakistan then this is the museum to go to, apparently.

Pakistan Air Force Museum

If you’re interested in military history then this museum has over 40 jets and planes that have been used by the Pakistan Air Force. This could be a potentially good destination if you have children.

Pakistan Maritime Museum

Another good option if you are with children or have an interest in naval history and boats. You can go inside a submarine here! It’s not too far from the Air Force museum so you could manage to do both.

Shopping in Karachi

Karachi is the shopping capital of Pakistan and shopping is one of the best things to do in Karachi simply for the amount you can do.

You will find almost anything you could want and there are so many places to go shopping, with the most fun being the local busy street markets.

Shopping is one of the best things to do in Karachi if you’re looking for some good deals on items.

The main street markets to visit in the centre of the city are many. Bolton Market is one option and the Zainab Market for cheap clothes etc near Empress Mall.

For more modern shopping the biggest mall in Pakistan is at the seaside by Clifton Beach, called Dolmen Mall. It stands in stark contrast from the street markets but it’s always good to check out both sides of a city.

Just be aware it’s expensive shopping!

The nearby area of Zamzama has many boutique shops for more shopping in the upper price category.

Tariq Road is also a good option for upmarket shopping in Karachi with boutique shops and malls.

But if you want to get lots of cheaper clothes, souvenirs, etc, then stick to the street markets in Karachi.

Food in Karachi

Now we’re talking! Eating is one of the best things to do in Karachi and the city is famous for its culinary choices.

Karachi is famous in Pakistan as a food city and there will be lots to choose from. The only warning is to be careful and choose busy and good places to eat as travellers getting a bad stomach from the water etc is a problem there.

Never drink tap water in Karachi!

Karachi Sweets

Karachi has some of the best sweets in Pakistan and there are plenty of places to choose from.

Delhi Sweets on the main Shahrah-e-Faisal road is one of the best in the city, especially for gulab jamun.

Rehmat-e-Shereen is another excellent bakery in Karachi worth going to and has the best overall sweet variety we found.

Get a takeaway box with different types of sweets to try.

Karachi Biryani

Sindh province of Pakistan, of which Karachi is part, is known for its spicy biryani and a visit would not be complete without trying one.

In fact, having a biryani is one of the best things to do in Karachi as far as food goes!

There are lots of biryani places in Karachi, too many to mention here, but one piece of advice would be: if you get invited to someone’s home (Karachiites are very friendly) then go for it as homemade is the best!

Coffee Shops in Karachi

If you’re looking for some good coffee in Karachi then these coffee shops are the best ones to try. Many are in the Zamzama area in Clifton.

Butler’s Chocolate and Cafe has some of the best coffee and is a popular chain in Pakistan with outlets in numerous places. One is in Dolmen Mall and another is in Zamzama.

Esquires Coffee is nearby Butlers in Zamzama and has some great coffee and a relaxed vibe. There is also one in Dolmens Mall but the Zamzama one is better for the atmosphere.

Floc – for the love of coffee, is also in the Zamzama area and worth checking out.

What better way once you’ve had a coffee fix than to take a short walk? Nearby Zamzama Park is perfect for that.

Long story short: if you want great coffee shops in Karachi then head to Zamzama.

Head To The Port Area

The seaside is a popular place to go not just for beaches but also for the port settings, such as Port Grand.

At Port Grand, you can walk along the jetty and munch on traditional snacks from the stalls and have a nice meal at a restaurant. It’s also good to bring children as there is a children’s entertainment area as well as a cinema.

Getting Around in Karachi

The absolute best way for transport in Karachi is to use Careem or InDrive, the local version of Uber.

Download the app to your phone and order a car to get from place to place. It’s not that expensive and will generally be cheaper than trying to get a taxi on the street. It’s also very safe.

The other fun option, if you’re not going long distances, is to take a local rickshaw but make sure you fix a price before leaving.

Don’t bother with the local buses they are overcrowded and uncomfortable.

Where to Stay in Karachi

There are so many neighbourhoods to stay in Karachi, but as a visitor, your best bet will be to stay in Clifton as it’s a central location for visiting the main sites and is also a safe place to be.

As the old sayings go, if Lahore is the heart of Pakistan, Karachi constitutes the country’s very backbone. Not only is it the economic pivot, the central trade hub, and marketing heaven, but also the city of lights. MOHATTA PALACE

Since the beginning of humankind, men have been utterly fascinated by the concept of monarchy; there was a good reason why for thousands of years, all across the world, families ruled the continents as they saw fit based on their blood claim on the throne. Kings and queens, princes and princesses, warriors and knights, and with all these essentials to monarchy come the beauteous concept of palaces, castles, and forts. Karachi is no stranger to palaces; there is an incredible palace called the manhattan palace,  the most beautiful place to visit in Karachi . Shivratan Chandraratan built the Mohatta palace in 1927 to honor his love for his beloved wife.

One of the  top historical landmarks in Karachi  is the Quaid-e-Azam house museum , one of the oldest historical buildings in Karachi. It was built in 1886 and was designed in detail by one of the most renowned architects of the time who went by the name Moses So make. This house wasn’t always a museum. It was bought by the founder of Pakistan, the great Muhammad Ali Jinnah, in 1943. It remained as his house where he resided until he died in 1948. Frere hall is one of the oldest landmarks of the colonial Era; it was built in 1865 in the British colonial period. The gallery takes its name from a famous British administrator Frere, who not only worked for the development of Karachi and Sindh but also declared the Sindhi language as the official language for official purposes instead of the Persian language the Mughals used. You can check out the historical mural called Arz-o-Samawat, (heaven and earth). Since 2011, Frere hall has been open to the public; on Sundays, there is a small book Bazar where you can purchase old scripts and old books at low prices.

MAZAR-E-QUAID

The Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah Mausoleum is one of the  top attractions in Karachi , and for a good reason, since it is where the very core of Pakistan lies. The person who spent his life realizing the dream of millions of Muslims living in the Indian subcontinent. So it is only justified that everyone who visits Karachi would want to stroll through the massively colossal lawn and green garden of the Mazar-e-Quaid leading up to the tomb itself. It was built in 1971 after eleven years of construction; this tomb was created solely to honor Pakistan’s founder and most outstanding leader.

It is open to the public, and you can visit it any time of the day except for the time during official ceremonies held by government officials and political figures. THE RUINS OF BHOMBORE

The ruins of Bhombore make up the remnants of what was once a great city near the N-5 National Highway, eat of Karachi. According to historians, the city dates back to the Scythe-Parthian Era and became a dominating Muslim territory from the 8 th  to 13 th  centuries. The city was abandoned later in the 13 th  century. You should visit this place, especially if you are a history geek because this ruined city provides a perfect spot to take your curious family for a stroll. It is also a beautifully sculptured fractured mosaic of a city that was once an important gateway and trade route for the caravans. THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF PAKISTAN

The national museum of Pakistan Karachi is the biggest in Pakistan and was inaugurated in 1970 by then president-general Yahya Khan. It is home to some of Pakistan’s most historically significant jewels and artifacts ever excavated. One of the reasons it should be one of Karachi’s  top attractions i s its building, which is one of the city’s most incredible and well-made contemporary modern buildings. The four clocks that can be seen from afar constitute a significant relic of the colonial Era, the bell that weighs 300 pounds strikes every hour while the small ones strike every quarter of an hour.

ABDULLAH SHAH GHAZI SHRINE

As the name suggests, Abdullah Shah Ghazi Shrine is one of the most honored sites in Sindh as it not only displays and commemorates the very soul of a saint but also is a massive example of how much saints and Sufis are honored and revered in the land of Sindh. After the supposed martyrdom of Abdullah Shah Ghazi, his devotees buried his body on the top of a hill near the coastline, which is now the area near Clifton. Today’s tomb is beautifully designed with intricate colored patterns and serves as a magnificent reminder of a holy entity’s existence.

KARACHI ZOO

Karachi zoo is one of the oldest zoos in the city, it was previously known as the Gandhi zoo, but later, the name was changed to suit the name of the town it was built in. It is located in the Garden west area and also happens to be the second oldest zoo after Lahore zoo. The reason why you should visit this place is that it has everything to offer. This place will sweep you off your feet if you are an animal lover and a wildlife enthusiast. The white lions purchased in 2011 for breeding have become a great source of attraction for the public and wild animals. The zoo is also famous for the Mughal gardens based on a theme inspired by the Mughal dynasty era.

The gardens are lush green and constitute most of the zoo, and there are several Mughal-inspired fountains designed solely based on the old royal architecture. The reptile house has been renovated recently and contains 13 species of snakes and lizards. The natural history museum is one of the biggest treasure houses for the zoology and wildlife ecology students of Pakistan since it contains numerous brilliant stuffed animals and skin, horns, antlers, feathers, etc. The Elephant House is the most remarkable and famous exhibit in the zoo. It is crowded all days of the week, primarily because of the two female African Bush elephants who have resided in the zoo for over 12 years. The animal diversity in the zoo makes it one of the  most beautiful places to visit in Karachi .

CHAUKANDI TOMBS

The Chaukandi tombs are one of the major attractions on the east side of Karachi, and these tombs are the oldest remnants of what was once a cemetery. These tombs are widely acclaimed as a must-visit place in Karachi for their incredible architecture inspired by the typical cemetery style of lower Sindh. The most notable feature of these tombs is the elaboration depicted in their sandstone carvings. These tombs were built sometime between the 15 th  and 18 th  centuries after Muhammad Bin Qasim invaded Sindh and brought Islam to the area. The graveyard was made to bury the family members of the Jokhio tribe, and then later, mainly Balochi families were buried here too. A visit to Chaukandi Tombs is worth the time and money because of its rich history and naturally preserved sandstones despite the acrid local climate.

PAKISTAN AIRFORCE MUSEUM

Pakistan air-force museum is an airfare museum located near the Karsaz flyover near Shahrah-i-Faisal Karachi. Outside the main museum, the main lawn area contains incredible artifacts like radars, jets, airfare, and weapons. Though it is the main museum where you will find fighter jets used on the battlefield by the pilots of the Pakistan Air force, the museum also contains the legendary plane once used by the founder of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Along with fighter jets from Pakistan, the museum also has the honor of having one of the fallen jets from India that landed in Pakistani territory in the war of 1965. The museum also contains the many scale models of airfare from world war one and World War Two, which has become a war attraction for people who are invested deeply in learning about the historical events around the horrific events that took place back in the early 1900s.

STATE BANK MUSEUM AND ART GALLERY

State Bank Museum is the first monetary museum in Pakistan; it opened in 2004 and is located on Ibrahim Ismail Chundrigar road. Initially, it was built in the British colonial Era in the 1920s to serve as the Imperial Bank of India. Its building is set in red jodhpur stones and is a marvel. In 2004, the structure was changed into an art gallery and museum, and different projects were commenced in 2006. A sum of money was dedicated to conserving and preserving the history around the place. The con gallery containing the most ancient coin-making tools and pre-Islamic art exhibits of barter systems which also encompass the Indus valley civilization, make the area inside the museum a sight to behold.

It is Pakistan’s first night and day zoo, hence named dan zoo. It is located in Bahria Town Karachi and is a unique wild place of its kind in the country. If you love wildlife and want to experience the wilderness at its full bloom amidst the rarest beautiful creatures of flora and fauna, you have to get out of the comfort of your home and buy a ticket to the Danzoo Bahria Town. Let it be the vibrant reptiles or the singing prettiest birds of all colors and hues, and dan zoo has everything to entertain the public. Take your kids to the zoo and watch them interact with the wildlife like never before. It also provides wild experiences like wild on wheels and crazy adventure rides. Some severe adrenaline rush experiences include the boating club and underwater life. Here you will experience something you have never experienced before. Danzo Bahria Town is a majestic place and mustn’t be missed at any cost.

ZAINAB MARKET

When it comes to Karachi, the one thing that could never go wrong is the shopping, so if you plan on going on a shopping spree or an outfit hunting expedition, the Zainab market is your go-to place. It is located near the city’s main Saddar, making it easily accessible to all people around the city. It is a shopping area where mostly the export leftovers or rejected land is sold at fair and relatively cheaper prices for the public to buy.

Because of the extreme inflation and rise in dollar prices throughout the past two years, it has become quite an ordeal to buy stuff from abroad without going bankrupt. Still, the Zainab market is where you can buy branded stuff from great brands worldwide at a much lower and reasonable price. Let it be the cool funky T-shirts, cute little accessories that are a must for fashion lovers, or the various varieties of footwear and gorgeous makeup products for the ladies. You can have it all, so let’s not miss this place on your next trip to Karachi.

HINDU GYMKHANA

Established in 1925, the Hindu Gymkhana is the first building in the history of Karachi to adopt the classic Mughal-revival architectural style. It is located on Shaheed Sarwar road and was established to provide a safe place for the Hindu community to serve as a club. It was used as a social rendezvous point by the elite and affluent Hindu families of the sub-continent residing in Karachi back in the days before 1947. It is currently one of Pakistan’s most famous protected heritage sites. It has an ongoing controversy surrounding it as the Hindu community wants to reclaim the Gymkhana. Still, the Pakistan National Academy of performing arts NAPA is unwilling to leave the premises of the Gymkhana. Even with the declining area and illegal exploitation of the place, the Hindu Gymkhana is the most incredible place to visit in Karachi. The golden hues of the building will take your imagination to its highest point.

LUCKY ONE MALL

It is one of the most modernized and aesthetically pleasing places in Karachi, and people go there not just to satisfy a sudden craving for a shopping spree but also to have a good relaxing time with friends and family. It is located on the main Rashid Minhas Road near the UBL sports complex. It closes around 9 PM  every day; the lucky one mall should not be left out of your bucket list of places to visit in Karachi because it is indeed the largest mall in all of Pakistan. BAHRIA DANCING FOUNTAINS

The marvel that has become the Bahria dancing fountains is one of the  top most visited attractions in Karachi  because of its majestic beauty and magnificent vibe. They are only open on Sunday, which is the weekly holiday; hence the best time should be anytime in the evening before 9 PM. They are built and designed by the creators of Singapore Sentosa and Dubai Canal Waterfall. The Bahria Dancing fountains are a sizzling and gorgeous mess of drizzling water choreographic ventures. As you glimpse the might of the gushing water across the fountains with the serene solid notes of music thrum inside your ear, taking you to another place altogether, you will not experience anything akin to the beauty of this extraordinary place. Also known as Jinnah Mausoleum, this magnificent national monument was constructed in 1970. Several historic figures such as Fatima Jinnah, Liaquat Ali Khan and Sardar Abdur Rab Nishtar are also buried within the premises. The sprawling complex also comprises a museum that houses vintage cars that were once used by Quaid-e-Azam along with his other personal belonging. There is also a small cafeteria that serves snacks and light refreshments along with a souvenir shop.  

The grand white mausoleum attracts a number of visitors throughout the year, but it remains especially crowded during national holidays. Official and military ceremonies are also held at Mazar-e-Quaid on special occasions.

Some of the most noteworthy facilities available at this stunning tourist attraction include 6D cinema, karaoke stations, indoor and outdoor art galleries, circus, amusement park, palm reading, boating facilities and much more. The Pakistan Air Museum, also known as PAF Museum, is one of the best places to visit in Karachi with family. Located on main Shahrah-e-Faisal, this museum is easily accessible through public transportation. It is also one of the most popular spots for school field trips educational tours in the city.

PAF Museum was inaugurated on Aug. 14, 1997, however, it was opened to the general public later that year in October. Some of the top attractions of the museum include Quaid-e-Azam’s aircraft, a grand convention centre, souvenir shop, auditorium, cafeteria and restaurants, amusement park and a designated area for summer festivals and other events.

The vast green lawns surrounding the convention centre are home to a number of different aircraft, including Mirage, F-104 Starfighter, FT-6, F-6, F-86 Sabre, T-33, Antonov An-12 and several others. Equipment used by Pakistan Air Force is also displayed throughout the complex in order to educate the visitors.

Timings: Saturday – Thursday 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM | Friday 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Entry Ticket: PKR 60 for adults. Children under the age of 3, senior citizens and disabled citizens don’t need to purchase a ticket. Meanwhile, students and families of defence personnel can avail a discount on the entrance fee.

Pakistan Maritime Museum is also one of the most popular places to visit in Karachi with family. While the lush green lawns and various other attractions make it an aesthetically pleasing recreational spot, the stunning murals and displays inside the main museum building allow children to learn more about the history of their country.

Situated near PNS Karsaz, the naval museum comprises an auditorium, community centre, artificial lake, lighthouse, auditorium, cafeteria, aquariums, library, children’s play area, prayer area and much more. The main museum building houses six different galleries that display military artefacts, sculptures, murals, taxidermy, weapons and touch screen computers and a giant skeleton of a whale among other attractions.

You can simply take a stroll on the sand, dip your feet in the water or take a seat on the stairs to enjoy the mesmerizing view. Covering an area of approximately 130 acres, it is also the largest park in Karachi. It houses murals of dinosaurs, a rose garden, and a turtle pond among other attractions.

The lush green beachfront public park is a great spot for family outings in Karachi. It provides children with an open space to play and run around while the adults can relax under the elegant stone canopies built across the park. Nothing can be more refreshing than a view of the clear blue ocean. Of all the incredible beaches in Karachi , the serene Turtle Beach definitely stands out as the prime picnic spot in the city.

This beautiful sandy beach has no rocks or reefs and serves as a nesting ground for Olive Ridley Turtles and Green Sea Turtles. However, you can’t see turtles anywhere near the beach during the daytime. 

Turtle Beach in Karachi offers a large number of fun activities to beachgoers. This includes speed boating, jet skiing, fishing, horse and camel riding and much more. There are also quite a few lavish huts available for rent at the beach if you are planning to stay the night or want to make your trip as comfortable as possible. There are also lifeguards present on the beach to prevent any unfortunate incidents. However, it is recommended that you refrain from swimming in the ocean, especially during high tide.

There’s also a WWF Wetland Center in the vicinity to ensure the safety of the nesting ground. It also aims to raise awareness about the conservation of sea turtles.

Location : Located between Hawke’s Bay and Sandspit. It is easily accessible via Lyari Expressway. 

Located in Bahria Town, Day and Night Zoo, also known as Danzoo, is yet another great place for a family outing in Karachi. Inaugurated in May 2018, it is the first zoo of international standards in Pakistan. Danzoo houses a large number of exotic animals and offers a range of recreational activities for children and adults alike. It also offers separate day and night safari adventures.

Spread over an area of about 70 acres, Day and Night Zoo offers visitors an option to explore the park on a golf-cart free of cost, since covering the place on foot can be rather tiring. It also offers boating facilities with proper safety gear for rather affordable charges, making it one of the best zoos in Karachi .

Some of the animals present at Danzoo include lions, white lions, Asiatic black bears, Bengal tigers, panthers, leopards, cheetahs, monkeys, giraffes, zebras and deer among others. There are also several domestic and imported birds present in the zoo, such as peacocks, parrots, ostriches, white swans, black swans, doves and macaws to name a few. The zoo also holds a live animal show every weekend at 8:00 PM, which is rather popular among kids.

The newly inaugurated Manora Beachfront is a sight for sore eyes. The clean sandy shores and cool blue waters create a stunning view against the backdrop of the setting sun. This mesmerizing beach is located a short drive from the popular Sands Pit Beach. Regardless of where you live in Karachi, you can easily travel through Lyari Expressway to reach Maripur Road and then drive onwards to Kaka Pir before finally entering the Manora Cantonment Area. 

Alternatively, you can reach the Manora Beachfront by taking a boat from Kemari Port. If you plan to travel by road, please make sure to keep your original CNIC with you, as you will be required to submit them at the entrance of PNS Himalaya. 

The park itself is quite expansive and allows visitors to experience a complete beach experience with a few upgraded amenities. While the waves crashing against the shoreline certainly take the spotlight, the park also features a large play area for kids comprising a multitude of swings, slides, a bouncing castle and other rides. Moreover, the food street provides beachgoers with a vast range of options to choose from. Whether you want a light snack or a full-course meal, you will easily be able to find something of your liking at Manora Beach Park.

It is also worth mentioning that the park comprises several oceanfront gazebos that are available for rent for PKR 500 per three hours. If you plan on staying there for longer, you can pay additional charges and continue to enjoy the enchanting views of the sea from your private sanctuary. The Manora Beachfront also provides bathroom and shower facilities for visitors, making it an ideal place for a family outing.

Those who live in Federal B Area, Azizabad, North Nazimabad, or Gulshan-e-Iqbal can easily visit the revamped Taleemi Bagh with their families. The lush green park, which has always been a popular attraction in the area, now houses an amusement park as well as a dinosaur-themed Jurassic Park, House of Nun haunted house, and a mini zoo.  A boating area is also expected to open soon.

Quaid-e-Azam (“Great Leader”) Muhammad Ali Jinnah was the founding father of Pakistan. In 1948 he was buried at the Mazar-e-Quaid which is also known as Jinnah Mausoleum or the National Mausoleum. It is located in the heart of the megacity of Karachi. People who came to Karachi from all over the country and travelers like to visit this place and pay their respects to this great leader of Pakistan. Hence making it one of the most famous places in Karachi Pakistan.

The architectural icon is both simple and striking, and it’s no wonder it’s become a symbol of the city. The stoic white marble structure commands attention even from afar. Lines of bubbling fountains lead toward the building, which is a pleasingly simple and striking architectural beauty. Also, don’t forget to check out the gold chandelier inside the tomb which was a gift from China to Pakistan.

The mausoleum also holds the tombs of his sister Fatima Jinnah, the Māder-e Millat (“Mother of the Nation”), and Liaquat Ali Khan, Pakistan’s first Prime Minister.

It is open 24 hours but I recommend going in the morning to skip the crowd. Eid al-Adha (Observed) might affect these hours

Only 6 mins walk away from the Quaid e Azam’s tomb above, you can arrive at the TDF Ghar. This restored bungalow from the 1930s is a little oasis of calm located right in the middle of one of Karachi’s most chaotic traffic junctions.

Entry charge is Rs.50 only and you can enjoy the best views of Jinnah’s final resting spot, drink some chai, display old furniture on the ground floor and you can also witness how Karachi used to be back in the day, the furniture the antiques everything is a good demonstration of the early ’90s. Having said that, TDF is also a multi-purpose place where you can get food, play card games, board games, chess, Ludu, or Caram board. A good place to hang out with your friends. This can also be the place to do some work on your laptop as it is relatively quiet inside and read/borrow or donate books at a small in-house library. It is open daily from 10 am to 10 pm.

Mohatta Palace was built during the colonial days (1927) by Shivratan Chandratan Mohatta, a Marwari Hindu businessman from the Indian state of Rajasthan. He built the palace for his wife as his summer home but unfortunately, he could only enjoy it for another two decades. After partition, it became the residence of Fatima Jinnah, Quaid e Azam’s sister.

Locals say there is a secret passage underground that leads to a temple 1km away but I wasn’t allowed to try it. Let me know if you get lucky though! Oh, and locals also told me, this place is haunted!

Entrance is only 30cents but cameras aren’t allowed inside however you’re free to photograph the stunning exterior of the building. Today it is used as an art gallery and museum. There are always thought-provoking exhibitions happening at this grand building surrounded by trees and a nice garden. The museum is open from 11 am to 6 pm Tuesday to Sunday. It’s closed on Mondays. So plan your trip accordingly.

Masjid e Tooba is a great masterpiece of architects, located adjacent to the DHA Phase I commercial area and built in 1969 keeping acoustics in mind. So that a person speaking inside at one end of the dome can be heard at the other end! This makes it special. A mosque (without even a single pillar) gives a spectacular view both inside and out. It is one of the tourist attractions that are worth seeing in Karachi.

It is also known as Gol Masjid and is claimed to be the largest single-dome mosque in the world. 5000 people can pray in the central prayer hall.

French Beach is an excellent place to get rest and peace of mind if you want to escape from the hustle and bustle of Karachi. It is considered one of the best places to visit in Karachi and used to be a small fishing village frequented by Karachi’s elite. It is also known to the locals as Haji Ismill Goth.

Going to the beach has a different meaning in Pakistan. I recommend respecting their culture and cover-up. Not to the extreme but at least your body, shoulders, and knees.

You can also rent the huts there as there are over 50 of them and don’t forget to bring extra clothes to change if you end up swimming with your clothes on. The ocean must look welcoming with blue water on a sunny day. Bringing your own food is a good idea too as there is no shops or restaurants around the beach. Alternatively, you can also visit Clifton Beach.

Frere Hall is an iconic building from colonial times as the local town hall and still is currently hosting city festivals like the “Karachi Food Festival” amongst others. The inauguration of this building placed in 1865 and maintained by the Sindh Government.

The ground floor has a big library with books and archives dating back to pre-Pakistan years! Their Sunday book bazaar is a must-go-to-place for any and all book lovers. The quality and range of books are amazing. The sellers present there have their own bookshops so they offer a wide range of books of different genres. Frere Hall also has a museum in it, and an amazing art gallery to die for.

It is open M-S 9 am to 5 pm except for Sunday.

Karachi is called the City of Lights (even from my Hotel window at 1 am there was still traffic and cars on the road) but I feel it can also be called the city of food! If you don’t believe me, witness it yourself by visiting Burns Road, which is a food street in the former part of Karachi and is popular for its traditional, mouth-watering, appetizing items such as bun Kebabs, Haleem, Nihari, fried fish, and sweet things such as Rabri and traditional beverages such as Lassi.

Burns Road is the epicenter of all Karachiites foodies whole year round and especially in Ramadan. Every local in Karachi knows of Burns Road and its delicious traditional food. Even if you happen to come by it at 2 am or 3 am at night, the street is still buzzing with the sounds of searing oils and delectable aromas all around. And that reason alone makes Karachi Street Food on this list of famous places in Karachi Pakistan. No better way to know a country than through their food.

Alternatively, you can also try Bohra Food Street.

St. Patrick’s Cathedral was built in 1881 and stands tall at 52 meters, in one of the most congested areas of Karachi. Even though 96.4% of the population is Muslim in Karachi, Christians come second with 2.42%, Hindu (0.86%), Ahmadis (0.17%), and other (0.10%) which makes Christians one of the two largest (non-Muslim)  religious  minorities in Pakistan, along with Hindus. (This data is correct according to a 1998 census of Pakistan) couldn’t find the new one!

This Catholic Cathedral is full of beautiful architecture and history. You can also attend Sunday’s English language mass in the evening. It can fit 1000+ devotees inside the church and after the visit, it is worth walking around all the way towards the historic Empress Market nearby.

Behind me is the founder of Pakistan Muhammad Ali Jinnah and sideboards filled with unsung heroes who fought for freedom.

State Bank of Pakistan Museum & Art Gallery is one of the national museums which was established in 2004 to introduce the first Monetary Museum of Pakistan. The entire premises has multiple galleries of coins, notes, machinery, art, and stamps for visitors. The best part is every group is offered a guided tour by the team explaining each and every detail about the past n present related to the currency and beyond.

The whole tour is cost-free and I also got shredded money in a little bag as a souvenir! It is open M-S 9:30 – 5 pm except for Sunday.

Jodia bazar is the oldest market in Karachi, Pakistan. Located in the port city of Karachi, this market symbolizes the heart of the trading business in Pakistan. It is one of the famous places in Karachi Pakistan for locals and visitors mainly for shopping and/or photographing. There are many streets for spices, food, homeware, steel, jewelry, clothes, and everything else. You can buy it in bulk at wholesale prices or separately.

In 1947 soon after the independence of Pakistan, the Jodia market played a vital role in the economic development of the newly born state. It is one of the must-see markets in Karachi, just make sure to arrive early as it gets super crowded as the day goes on.

Pakistan is such a beautiful place, and I had no idea. I’ve never really thought about Pakistan as a travel destination before, but I think it’s time reconsider that. The architecture is so pretty.

Quaid’s Mausoleum

Quaid’s mausoleum is the iconic symbol of Karachi and one of the famous tourist sites in the city. The Mausoleum is the final resting place of the founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam (which means “Great Leader” in Urdu) Muhammad Ali Jinnah . It is also known as Mazar-e-Quaid, Jinnah Mausoleum, or the National Mausoleum. This masterpiece is famous for its design located in the heart of the city near Gulshan-E-Iqbal. The architecture is both simple and striking, white marble structure attracts you even from afar. The architect Yahya Merchant designed this marvel and was completed in 1970.

 It is surrounded by a beautiful large park, trees, and wonderful fountains. The mausoleum also holds the tombs of 5 other prominent leaders including, “Liaqat Ali Khan”,  the first Prime Minister of Pakistan and his wife, the great woman leader Begum Ra’ana Liaquat Ali Khan, Quaid`s sister Māder-e Millat (“Mother of the Nation”) Miss Fatima Jinnah, Sardar Abdur Rab Nishtar and Mr. Noorul Ameen. It’s a very calm and peaceful place to visit.

Frere Hall is among the few remainder constructions in Karachi that attract everyone. It’s dating back to the time when Pakistan was a part of the Indian British colony. It was originally planned to serve as Karachi’s town hall during British rule and now the building serves as an art gallery and library. The hall is located in central Karachi’s colonial-era Saddar Town. The construction was completed in 1865 in the Venetian Gothic architecture style and British styles, designed by Henry Saint Clair Wilkins.

The lush green gardens around the building are amazing. The hall was built in honour of Sir Henry Bartle Edward Frere, who is known for contributing a lot to the economic development in Sindh and is also remembered for making Sindhi the official language in the province. It’s one of the most popular places to visit in Karachi because of its historical significance.

The National Museum of Pakistan

The National Museum of Pakistan is a great place to see, close to Karachi’s Art Council. It was established in 1951 in Frere Hall replacing the obsolete Victoria Museum and continued to be there till July 1970. The basic reason for establishing the National Museum was to preserve and exhibit the cultural history and heritage of Pakistan.

The Museum consist of 11 galleries containing artefacts, calligraphy, Islamic art, remains of the Indus Valley Civilization, paintings, more than 58,000 old coins, and many rare manuscripts of the Quran.

Mohatta Palace

Mohatta Palace is an incredible building standing proudly in the posh seaside locale of Clifton. Clifton used to be the preferred destination among the wealthiest families for residence. Mohatta Palace was built in 1927 by Shivratan Chandraratan Mohatta who was a businessman and built this fascinating building for his beloved wife.

It was built very beautifully in a Mughal revival style with a combination of locally available yellow Gizri stone and the striking pink Jodhpur stone. Designed by Agha Ahmed Hussain and it covers an area of 18,500 sq. ft.

It was the final residence of Fatima Jinnah and now the palace is used as a museum and art gallery. The building truly exhibits Karachi’s historic view.

Charna Island

Charna Island is a small uninhabited island located near Mubarak Goth Kiamari Town. It is 6 km away from Mubarak Goth and 2 hours from Karachi. There are a lot of caves at Charna Island; the experienced crew takes you deep into each cave that is hidden from naked eyes.

The best time to go to Charna Island is November to April because the weather cools down and the sea is calm with the absence of high tides. It’s an ideal spot to relax your mind and heal your soul with happiness. Capturing every moment and enjoy the mesmerizing beauty of nature that’s waiting for you.   

The Chaukhandi Tombs

The Chaukhandi tombs which are commonly known as Chaukhandi graveyards are spreads over an area of two square miles. The tombs are located at a distance of 30 km in the east on N-5 National Highway near Landhi Town, Karachi. Nobody knows exactly when they were built, historian says that the tombs are built between the 15th and 18th centuries.

This incredible sight is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It contains graveyards of the local Jokhio tribe and Saloch warriors who come in the area and are made either as single graves or as groups of up to eight graves that are raised on a common platform.

The more intricate graves are constructed in the typical architecture of native Sindhi style with buff-coloured sandstone. The tombs are distinguished for their elegant sandstone carvings, the male graves show a shield, sword, arrow, and women’s graves symbolize ornaments such as bracelets, rings, and anklets, etc. It’s the most attention-grabbing sight in Sindh that attracts many tourists’ especially archaeologists.

Tooba Masjid

Tooba Masjid is also known as Tooba Mosque or Gol Masjid, located in Phase 02 of DHA, Karachi. The distinctive design of the Mosque takes attention to the tourist. The mosque’s beauty is very graceful, architected by Dr. Babar Hamid Chauhan. It was built in 1969 in Defense Housing Society Karachi and is often claimed to be the largest single-dome mosque in the world.

The mosque is the 18th largest in the world, with a central prayer hall that can hold a gathering of up to 5,000 people. The other interesting thing about the mosque is that if one speaks at one end of the dome, it can be heard at the other end. The mosque gives peace and serenity and is a perfect place for relieving your stress.

The museum also displays a Minesweeper ship, Breguet Atlantic aircraft and a wooden barge that was given by the Her Majesty, Queen of England to Naval Chief of Pakistan in the ’60s.

It’s very clean and the staff is very friendly.

It is among the few remnants constructions of British complex era that is still visible in Karachi, Sindh Pakistan. During the British Rule, Frere hall serviced as a Town Hall and was the centre of Karachi’s social-cultural activities.

Frere Hall was constructed in 1865 in the Venetian Gothic architecture style with yellow Karachi limestone with red and greyish sandstones of Jungshahi. Frere hall holds a library in addition to an art gallery rich in paintings by Pakistan’s iconic artist Sadequain.

Frere Hall is open for public however on Sundays there’s a book fair in its courts where it’s affordable to buy some old and historical books.

Empress Market

This market is another place in Karachi where the British colonial rule is very evident; it was named to celebrate Queen Victoria when it was built in 1889. The foundation stone of the market was laid by a British, James Fergusson, who was the Governor of Bombay at the time.

Jinnah House Museum and Flag Staff House

The Jinnah House Museum was originally known as the Flag Staff House and was bought in 1943 by Pakistan’s founder Mohammed Ali Jinnah. His sister continued to live in it after his death, only leaving it in 1964.

The house was neglected until 1985 when authorities restored it and converted it into a museum celebrating the life of Jinnah. You can see his reading room, dining rooms, bedrooms and dressing room, many of which are still full of their original furnishings and possessions.

Chaukhani tombs

Around 30km east of Karachi is the Chaukhani tombs, beautifully carved and intricate tombs which spread over around 2 square miles of land. The tombs are built on raised platforms in a pyramids form with decorative stone slabs covered in relief with human and figurative designs.

Most of the tombs represent family graveyards and only a few are placed under pillar canopies finished in the Hindu style. The carvings on some of the male graves show a horseman with his arms; shield, sword, bow and arrow. The carvings on women’s graves represent ornaments such as bracelets, necklaces, rings, anklets, etc. Also in case of male graves, a boss shaped projection provided at the northern end intends to hold the turban of the deceased.

It’s not known exactly when they were built, but it’s believed they contain the tombs of Saloch warriors who were in the area in the 17th and 18th centuries BC. They are an incredible sight and have been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Address: Port Qasim Rd, Karachi, Pakistan.
