Best Places To Stay On Your Longleat Hot Tub Break
With its unique location and vast estate, Longleat has plenty of access to neighbouring towns and cities. Pair your safari adventure with a quick stroll along the ancient streets of Bath. For an authentic rural retreat, holidaymakers and glampers will find their next home from home within the town of Bradford-on-Avon. And if you simply want to get lost in the pretty countryside, then Shaftesbury is the place to be. For your next stay in Longleat, take a pick from some of the best holiday destinations:
Bath is a city located in the southwestern region of Somerset. The city itself is built around the Avon Canal and is surrounded by limestone hills from Mendip Hills and the Cotswolds. Due to its stunning landscape and incredible heritage, Bath is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s also the largest settlement in the county, receiving millions of visitors every year.
The city of Bath is famous for many things including its Georgian architecture and Roman-built baths. The latter is located at the heart of the city and within close distance to the historical Bath Abbey. On the other hand, its Georgian style is very much evident through the city’s exteriors and is represented through buildings like the Royal Crescent and the Circus. Bath is also closely associated with the famous writer, Jane Austen.
Bradford-on-Avon
Bradford-on-Avon is a picturesque town within the borders of Wiltshire. The town is dominated by valleys and hillsides with the River Avon connecting it to the city of Bath. Although generally smaller than its neighbours, the town is rich in history with ruins dating back to Roman times. Holidaymakers also frequent the area for its charming architecture and idyllic atmosphere.
The town is best known for its heritage sites including the Tithe Barn, which is believed to be the biggest medieval barn in England. It’s also synonymous with the Town Bridge. This bridge is the most iconic structure of Bradford-on-Avon featuring nine arches and a small domed chapel. The trek up St. Margaret’s Hill is also a favourite trail among holidaymakers who want a panoramic view of the town’s countryside.
Shaftesbury
Shaftesbury is a town located in Dorset and is known for its hilly streets and sprawling farmlands. With its beautiful landscapes and charming homes, it’s considered one of the prettiest towns in the county. Like many rural towns, Shaftesbury has a deep history with its fair share of age-old ruins. This includes Shaftesbury Abbey, a nunnery that was believed to have been established in 888. Another worthy structure is St. Peter’s Church, a Grade-II listed building that is now being used as the town hall.
While most tourists would associate the town as a holiday destination, the rest of Britain knows Shaftesbury from the “Hovis” commercial. The famous commercial was filmed in Gold Hill, one of the town’s hilltop areas and featured a young boy riding his bicycle with a loaf of bread in his basket. It was an extremely popular advert during the 1970s and drove tourism up for this quiet little town. That’s not all though – Shaftesbury also has fascinating museums, lovely outdoor parks, and gorgeous gardens boasting its own flower called “Shaftesbury Snowdrops.”

This lovely property is immersed in the safari park and provides an extraordinary opportunity to gaze at zebras, ostriches, wildebeest and a whole host of other beautiful creatures whilst enjoying a morning coffee on your terrace. A wonderful choice for couples seeking a safari experience without the long plane ride. Keeper's Cottage is beautifully presented and has a 19th century explorer feel to it. On the ground floor you'll find a cosy living room with comfortable Victorian style décor and a cosy wood burner where you can unwind on chilly evenings with a glass of wine. Or why not spend some time playing a game of chess surrounded by old books, a world globe, curious, interesting ornaments and some pretty plants? This space is very atmospheric and transports you to a different time. Curl up with a good book by the fire or enjoy the view from the window. The kitchen is a more modern affair with white counter tops and pleasantly tiled walls. It is spacious and comes fully equipped for the preparation of delicious meals, which you can enjoy at the round dining table which seats four. When it's time for bed, head upstairs to your fabulous zebra themed bedroom where you'll find a luxurious super-king size bed with crisp sheets, thick pillows and duvet and a warm blanket. The animal print cushions are particularly charming. The wallpaper has a repeating zebra pattern that matches perfectly with the black bedside tables and monochrome lamps, yet there is still the feel of an opulent Victorian setting with antique furnishings and character to spare. After a delightful night's rest head into the ensuite for a long hot shower before making your way back down to the kitchen for your first coffee. On a clear morning you might like to head out on to the terrace and enjoy that coffee with the incredible panoramic view of the safari park and all of its inhabitants! Nestled on the east side of the estate, you'll be overlooking the East African Reserve. How often can you say that you began your day in the UK zebra spotting? And in the summer months giraffes graze alongside the zebras, ostriches and wildebeest. Beyond the East African Reserve you can see the Monkey Jungle and the camel enclosure. It's a unique and exciting experience. As a guest at Longleat you'll have free entrance to all of the attractions, and discounts at the various restaurants and shops across the estate. There's a wonderful lookout point called Heaven's Gate where you can enjoy incredible views, and if you fancy a picnic head to Shear Water, a huge lake nestled within the forest's woodland. Longleat sits on the border of Wiltshire and Somerset so in addition to all that the park has to offer, you'll find some stunning country walks and cosy pubs just a short distance from the Estate. For days out head to Bath for the spa, shops and wonderful bars. Or head to the market town of Frome which is packed with independent shops and excellent places to eat.

Safari Lodges in the UK & Overnight Stays at Safari Parks
If you’re an animal lover looking for a unique and thrilling experience in the UK, spending the night in a safari lodge might be just what you’re looking for.
Safari parks in the UK offer an opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the world’s most majestic creatures, while UK nature reserves display the best of British wildlife. But what makes both of these experiences truly unforgettable is the opportunity to spend the night in a safari lodge, surrounded by the sounds and thrill of the wild.
In this blog post, we’ll explore some of the best safari lodges in the UK, as well as safari parks and nature reserves that offer overnight stays, so you can plan your next adventure with ease.
Giraffe Lodge @ West Midlands Safari Park

The lodges feature spacious and comfortable accommodation with modern amenities, including an en-suite bathroom, flat-screen TV and tea and coffee-making facilities.
After a busy day in the park, you can relax in the lodge’s cosy lounge area with its hanging nest chair, surrounded by beautiful African decor and sumptuous soft furnishings. And in the morning, enjoy a delicious breakfast while watching the giraffes roam from your private balcony, which is protected from the elements by an authentic thatched roof.
Tiger Lodge @ West Midlands Safari Park
The Tiger Lodge at West Midlands Safari Park is in a secluded area of the park, providing guests with stunning, uninterrupted views of the tigers as they roam their enclosure. The lodge itself is beautifully decorated, featuring authentic furnishings, wood-panelled walls and luxurious amenities in an open-plan design. With its exclusive access to the park and luxurious accommodations, the Tiger Lodge at West Midlands Safari Park offers an unforgettable and unique stay for tiger lovers of all ages.
By staying overnight at the West Midlands Safari Park, regardless of the lodge, guests are given two-day admission tickets and wristbands for the adventure theme park, as well as breakfast and dinner for the duration of the stay.

Guests can choose from a variety of rooms, from spacious suites to cosy doubles that offer breathtaking views of the park. A delicious breakfast is included in the Garden Room, the hotel’s stunning restaurant that is decorated with greenery from floor to ceiling.
As an added bonus, staying at the hotel includes unlimited access to the safari park during opening hours and even after it closes, allowing guests to explore the park and observe the animals at their leisure. Each guest is loaned a golf buggy to help you travel around the park with ease, so you can be the first to see the animals wake up and the last back home after your evening meal at one of the park’s restaurants.
Bear Lodge @ Port Lympne Safari Park
Bear Lodge at Port Lympne Safari Park offers visitors a unique opportunity to stay in a quiet corner of Port Lympne, overlooking some of nature’s most incredible creatures. The spacious canvas safari tents come complete with comfortable bedrooms, private bathrooms, and a cosy living area with wood burning stove.

It’s the perfect place to snuggle up with a glass of wine and a blanket while watching the sunset and the stars ignite. Or, if you’ve made friends on your safari, huddle around the communal firepit toasting marshmallows or telling stories. Our Readers' Favorite Safari Lodges in Africa in 2022
The best safari lodges, according to Travel + Leisure readers, go beyond the traditional game drive with a wide range of cultural experiences.
Note: If you’re looking for our most recent recommendations, check out the 2023 list of our favorite safari lodges in Africa.
For Travel + Leisure readers, the best safari lodges in Africa aren't necessarily traditional safari properties — though plenty of those did make this list. Take, for example, Wilderness Safaris Bisate Lodge — a luxurious base for tracking mountain gorillas in the cloud forest of Rwanda. It seems that this once-in-a-lifetime experience elevated guests' memories beyond those of Big Five safaris: the word amazing appears repeatedly in Bisate reviews.
Every year for our World's Best Awards survey, T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe — to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. Hotels (including safari lodges) were rated on their facilities, location, service, food, and overall value. Properties were classified as city hotel, resort, or safari lodge based on their locations and amenities.
This year's World's Best list reveals a growing interest in nontraditional safaris. In addition to Bisate at the top spot, there's another Rwandan lodge, One&Only Nyungwe House (No. 3), where the highlights are tracking chimpanzees, bird-watching, and visiting a tea plantation. "A gorgeous property in an incredible location," said one voter. And there's a second gorilla-tracking property on the list: Bwindi Lodge (No. 10), in Uganda. "How special to stay at Bwindi Lodge," wrote one guest, "and be so well cared for when setting out to see the magnificent gorillas."
At No. 2, Gibb's Farm is "the most unique lodge of any kind in East Africa," claimed one reader. Overlooking Tanzania's Ngorongoro Crater, a protected area known for its incredible density of wildlife, the 17-cottage property offers activities around its coffee plantation and gardens, as well as bush walks from the property and wildlife drives in the crater. One guest loved that it was "fun for adults and kids." It's "an incredibly beautiful hotel," said another. "The food was amazing, and I loved the farm-to-table philosophy."
Classic safaris are still well represented, with guests favoring wildlife-rich areas such as the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, the Masai Mara reserve in Kenya, and the South African Kruger National Park. As well as wildlife sightings and luxurious rooms, it was the people who made an impact on T+L readers. Of andBeyond Bateleur Camp (No. 6), in Kenya's Masai Mara, one reader said that "the guides are truly spectacular," while another described "warm, welcoming service."
1. Wilderness Safaris Bisate Lodge, Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda
On the edge of Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, Bisate Lodge has six stylish and cozy villas, each overlooking the surrounding villages, forests, and misty mountain peaks. The main activity there is trekking into the national park to spend some time watching the mountain gorillas, but there are also opportunities to see golden monkeys, go hiking in the mountains, or visit the grave of renowned primatologist Dian Fossey. The staff are "amazing," said one reader, who added the food was "delicious," especially the homegrown vegetables. Another fan said staying at Bisate was "the absolute best...experience we have ever had. The food, service, and rooms were beyond amazing."

Longleat's 75th anniversary celebrated with night glow
The 75th anniversary of a stately home being open to the public will be celebrated with a series of hot air balloon night glows.
The Icons of the Sky event at Longleat Safari Park will take place from 13 to 15 September and will include music from across eight decades.
A spitfire will also feature, as well as a host of hot air balloons of different shapes and sizes.
Scott Ashman, head of operations at Longleat, said: “Our 2024 event will be a 21st Century celebration of our heritage and pay homage to the history of flight."
“We will be opening from 7am each day of the event so people can marvel at a sunrise mass balloon launch, and we will be closing at 8.30pm after the air display, pyrotechnic air display, night glow and more," he added.
Choreographed to a specially selected soundtrack, the music will include Satisfaction from the Rolling Stones, who played at the estate in 1964 and I’m Still Standing from Sir Elton John who appeared in 2016 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Safari Park opening.
The hot air balloon flights are weather dependent and visitors will be updated via smoke signals on the ground and regular announcements.
Opened as a tourist attraction by the 6th Marquess of Bath on 1 April 1949, Longleat is now the home of the 8th Marquess and his family.
The event is also taking place two centuries after an early hot air balloon flight ended at Longleat.
In 1824 pioneering balloonist George Graham - who was married to Margaret, the country’s first female balloonist - landed a balloon in Longleat after taking off from Sydney Gardens in Bath.
