Kenny Chesney to Embark on Nostalgic I Go Back 2023 Tour with Kelsea Ballerini — See the Dates!

Kicking off in March, the tour will see Chesney play shows for fans "who might not come to stadium shows, who live a little off the obvious path, but who love this music every bit as much..."

Kenny Chesney is going back to his roots.

Shortly after his massive Here and Now 2022 Tour wrapped in August, the country superstar announced on Monday that he's embarking on the I Go Back Tour with opening act Kelsea Ballerini next year, which will see Chesney hit cities outside of major markets — and many that he hasn't played since his rise to fame.

Launching March 25 at the Bryce Jordan Center in State College, Pennsylvania, the I Go Back Tour will feature shows in North American locations including Lexington, Kentucky, Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma before wrapping July 22 at the Hy-Vee Indy Race in Des Moines, Iowa — with more dates set to be added.

Chesney, 54, opened up about the tour's inspiration in a press release, telling fans that he was thinking about how to "recapture the magic" after concluding the Here and Now Tour.

"I still have the sounds of diesel engines and No Shoes Nation in my head — and that made me ask, 'What else could I do? What would be something that would put me every bit as much in the music and give No Shoes Nation another reason to believe?'" he stated, noting that he wants to play for fans "who might not come to stadium shows, who live a little off the obvious path, but who love this music every bit as much..."

The thought led the 12-time CMA Award-winner to think about his 2004 hit single "I Go Back," written about how music can remind you of important life moments.

"That song is about holding all those things that shaped you very close, recognizing how special they are – and keeping them alive any way you can," he continued. "So, I decided that rather than just go repeat what we did, I wanted to take this band and these songs to a lot of the cities we played on our way up! Let's call the tour I Go Back – and do just that."

Elsewhere in the press release, Chesney recalled playing some of the cities during the early years of his career, noting the "craziness" of the shows in "markets where people were using chain-cutters to get onto the lawn because we were so sold out in the Carolinas."

"That's a kind of energy that should never be left behind. For all those fans — based on how good last year felt — I want to bring what was coming off that stage to you, where you are, so we can all have that kind of experience together!" added Chesney.

Fans can expect to see the musician perform songs from his catalog that "time stamp people's lives" and "serve as the touchstone for memories in the making."

He said in the statement, "For people to come out and either live these songs again, or hear them for the first time? Who knows what will happen? But I know whether it's 'American Kids,' 'Get Along' or 'You And Tequila,' every single person knows exactly what we're singing about and singing along to together."

In another press release, Chesney spoke about choosing Ballerini, 29, as the tour's opening act following their 2020 duet "Half of My Hometown."

"Kelsea understands everything about where I come from, because she's from there, too," said the musician, referencing the fact that both he and Ballerini grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee.

"She knows how hard it is to leave, how much you miss all those things that make you who you are... but also how the only way to chase the kind of dream she has is to do just that. It's a tough call when you love home the way we both do, but for kids like us, there was never really a choice," added Chesney.

He then recalled the origin of "Half of My Hometown," noting that Ballerini texted him to record the duet: "As soon as I heard that first verse, I was in. And I have been one of Kelsea's biggest fans ever since. She's a writer, a girl who sings from her heart and isn't afraid to honor where she comes from. To me, there was no other choice for this tour."

Ballerini also spoke about collaborating with Chesney on both the song and tour in the press release, acknowledging their hometown connection.

"Music has taken me so many incredible places," she said, noting that she's collaborated across genres. "But singing with Kenny is going home. He was the only voice I heard on 'half of my hometown,' and when he comes in, it's just like hitting the Knoxville city limits. So to be able to go out to those cities like the place he and I grew up with an artist who's accomplished what he has, it's a lot like going home."

Tickets for the I Go Back Tour go on presale for American Express card members in select markets from Nov. 23 at 10 a.m. local time through Dec. 1 at 10 p.m. local time. The general public gains access to tickets the following day at 10 a.m. local time.

Kenny Chesney Announces 2023 I Go Back Tour with Kelsea Ballerini

by Alli Patton November 21, 2022, 1:49 pm

“When a year is as hot and alive as 2022 was you don’t want to try to recapture that magic,” country star Kenny Chesney said in a statement.

Videos by American Songwriter

Instead, the singer has brainstormed ways to make his next tour even bigger than the last. All the while, he promises to bring his shows to fans residing off the beaten tour path.

“I still have the sounds of diesel engines and No Shoes Nation in my head,” the country star continued. “And that made me ask, ‘What else could I do? What would be something that would put me every bit as much in the music and give No Shoes Nation another reason to believe? How can we reach those people who might not come to stadium shows, who live a little off the obvious path, but who love this music every bit as much.”

That’s when it hit him to go back the way he came. The “I Go Back” way. Fittingly, his upcoming tour is named and inspired by his 2004 hit, “I Go Back.”

“That song is about holding all those things that shaped you very close, recognizing how special they are – and keeping them alive any way you can,” he said. “So, I decided that rather than just go repeat what we did, I wanted to take this band and these songs to a lot of the cities we played on our way up! Let’s call the tour I Go Back – and do just that.”

Chesney wants to bring the energy of those early days of touring to his upcoming run of shows. “I remember coming up, the craziness of so many of those dates,” Chesney said. “Markets where people were using chain-cutters to get onto the lawn because we were so sold out in the Carolinas… and that’s a kind of energy that should never be left behind. For all those fans – based on how good last year felt – I want to bring what was coming off that stage to you, where you are, so we can all have that kind of experience together!”

Joining Chesney on the road will be fellow Tennessee native, Kelsea Ballerini. “Kelsea understands everything about where I come from, because she’s from there, too,” Chesney said of his tour mate. “She’s a writer, a girl who sings from her heart and isn’t afraid to honor where she comes from. To me, there was no other choice for this tour.”

The two collaborated on Ballerini’s 2021 single and No. 1 hit, “half of my hometown.”

“Music has taken me so many incredible places,” Ballerini said. “Around the world, singing with some of my heroes in pop, alternative and contemporary music, but singing with Kenny is going home. He was the only voice I heard on ‘half of my hometown,’ and when he comes in, it’s just like hitting the Knoxville city limits. So to be able to go out to those cities like the place he and I grew up with an artist who’s accomplished what he has, it’s a lot like going home.”

The I Go Back Tour will kick off on Mar. 25 at Bryce Jordan Center in State College, Pennsylvania, and will criss-cross the country for a 21-date trek.

KENNY CHESNEY Announces Dates For “I Go Back 2023 Tour”

Having played to over 1.3 million fans on his Here And Now 2022 Tour , including breaking his personal best at many of the 21 NFL stadium plays, this summer, Kenny Chesney returned to touring with a major burst of everything good. The only country artist to make Billboard ’s Top 10 Touring Acts of the Past 25 Years for the last 14, Chesney wanted to find a completely different way to honor No Shoes Nation for his 2023 concerts.

“When a year is as hot and alive as 2022 was,” Chesney explains, “you don’t want to try to recapture that magic. Or maybe it’s me. I still have the sounds of diesel engines and No Shoes Nation in my head – and that made me ask, ‘What else could I do? What would be something that would put me every bit as much in the music and give No Shoes Nation another reason to believe? Let’s call the tour I Go Back – and do just that.”

The 21-date I Go Back 2023 Tour will criss-cross the country, returning to the places Chesney first caught fire including Lexington, KY, Grand Rapids, MI, Lincoln, NE and Oklahoma City, OK as well as headlining the Hy-Vee Indy Race in Des Moines and Tortuga Music Festival in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

Kenny Chesney I Go Back Tour 2022 dates

“I remember coming up, the craziness of so many of those dates,” Chesney says of his tour’s inspiration.

With a few more shows to announce, I Go Back 2023 is set to focus on the same musical intensity and high energy performances that marked the East Tennessean’s precedent-setting concerts. Having been raised in Knoxville, Chesney knows the power of bringing music to the fans – and wants to recognize the bond that live shows create among friends of all ages.

“These songs time stamp people’s lives,” Chesney says. “They put people in their lives, but they also serve as the touchstone for memories in the making. For people to come out and either live these songs again, or hear them for the first time? Who knows what will happen? Kenny Chesney announces I Go Back 2023 Tour with opening act Kelsea Ballerini

Just weeks after wrapping his Here and Now Tour, Kenny Chesney is already announcing tour plans for 2023.

The singer shared the news on Monday, unveiling his I Go Back 2023 Tour, which is set to launch next March. Of course, the trek takes its name from Kenny’s 20004 hit “I Go Back.”

While the singer hits stadiums in 2022, things will be a little bit more up-close and intimate on his 2023 run. He’s playing amphitheaters and arenas this time around, kicking things off with a March 25 stop in State College, Pennsylvania.

But that’s not all: Kenny has a very special opening act booked for the I Go Back Tour. Kelsea Ballerini , his “Half of My Hometown” duet partner, will join him for the dates.

“Kelsea understands everything about where I come from, because she’s from there too,” Kenny says of the singer. The two stars both hail from the same hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee.

“She knows how hard it is to leave, how much you miss all those things that make you who you are…but also how the only way to chase the kind of dream she has is to do just that,” he continues. “It’s a tough call when you love home the way we both do, but for kids like us, there was never really a choice.”

Tickets to the I Go Back 2023 Tour will go on sale December 2 at 10 a.m. local time.

The duck boats are rallying! Follow the live coverage from the Celtics parade today

The celebration of the Boston Celtics' NBA championship will be in full swing today, Friday, June 21, as over a million Boston sports fans ― who are no strangers to the iconic rolling rallies and duck boat parades that celebrated multiple championship titles in the past two decades ― are expected to flock to the city once again.

The parade will celebrate the Celtics' blowout   106-88 victory  over the  Dallas Mavericks to win the NBA title in five games. The win marks the team's 18th title, breaking a tie with the Los Angeles Lakers and setting a new record.

Celtics Parade wraps up

Commentators are estimating well over one million people showed up for the parade, which wrapped up just ahead of 12:30.

While the crowd was huge, people were commenting on how well behaved it was. Laura Cunning, of South Boston, said the crowd was energetic but got along very well.

"It was great, a great presentation of our city and our champions," Cunning said.

The Celtics parade is about halfway through

The crowd was electric as Coach Joe Mazzulla, Kristaps Porzingis and MVP Jayson Tatum made their way through Boylston Street on their duck boats. Chants of "MVP" echoes through neighborhood as attendees raved against the steel barricades as their champions passed by.

The Celtics parade has begun!

The Duck Boats have begun rolling in Boston, displaying the championship trophy to more than 1 million onlookers. While original crowd estimates said about a million people were likely to be in attendance, people at the scene are estimating the crowd is larger.

Mufaro Mutuswa of Billerica said she was excited for the parade to come through.

"Right now, it's very hot but I wouldn't trade it for anything," Mutuswa said

Mutuswa also said she is a Celtics fan because of her Boston pride, and because she likes winning.

"I like to be a part of this," Mutuswa said. "This is absolutely amazing, it's always worth it in the end."

What's the 'Don't stop disbelieving' slogan on Jayson Tatum's shirt?

The slogan refers to how many sports pundits doubted Tatum's ability to lead the team to a championship during the past year. The t-shirt is a symbol that Tatum has apparently embraced those who don't believe in him.

What time does Celtics parade start?

The parade will be at 11 a.m. That's the time the parade has started to celebrate recent Patriots, Red Sox, Bruins and Celtics wins.

Celtics Parade Route 2024

The parade is set to begin at the front of TD Garden on Causeway Street, then roll by City Hall Plaza on Cambridge Street and the along Boston Common on Tremont Street before ending by the Hynes Convention Center on Boylston Street.

How long is the Celtics Parade?

The parade route is about two miles long. The event is expected to last about two hours.

Hynes Convention Center area starts to fill with fans

With the parade about to start, fans are lining the streets in their Championship gear.

Steve Gladstone of Needham said he's been a Celtics fan all his life.

"It's awesome to spend time with my son and be able to celebrate a Celtics championship," Gladstone said.

He said that his children have been spoiled by so many Celtics wins.

"It used to be the city who's always expecting a loss," Gladstone said. "Now, we're ready to win every year."

Fans heading to Boston to watch Celtics parade

Waves of green hit Union Station Friday morning as sports fans from across Central Massachusetts began the trip to Boston to celebrate the Celtics first championship title in 16 years.

"I bleed green," Wilson Montalvo, 44, of Worcester said as he flexed his "Boston strong" tattoo and showed off his hat with a 508 area code.

Where to get Boston Celtics merch

If you're looking for the bucket hat Luke Kornet wore in interviews earlier today, you can buy it  online at the NBA Celtics store here.

Other popular items include the gold-trimmed  "Champions Boston Celtics" t-shirt  for $40, the  white gold-trimmed snapback  for $39 .  The lineup includes everything from sock and shoes, to pendants and flags, to shirts and jerseys, and hats as well.

Other items up for grabs:

  • Replica  Larry O'Brien trophies  are on sale online for about $100.
  • Autographed jerseys are going for  $ 1000  to  $2000  in price, whereas balls autographed by Jayson Tatum are priced around  $800.
  • To purchase Celtics merchandise in-person, you can go to  Dick's Sporting Goods ,  Champs , or any stores that sell sports apparel and memorabilia in Massachusetts.

Officials celebrate the Celtics

Ahead of the parade stepping off, state leaders thanked the Celtics team for the pride they brought to Boston.

"We are in love with this team because it is a team. And they had given us so much, " Governor Maura Healey, who was a professional basketball player, said. "And here's the thing about basketball, the team game, everybody's gotta roll, everybody's got a part. Some nights it was different person stepping up, but they got it done as a team."

As great as they are on the court, she said they are even better off the court.

She told people to "show love and appreciation not just for the trophy, but for what they give to community, to the state, to the region. They are role models. They are leaders. And today we're going to party and celebrate the Boston Celtics," she said.

Celtics players do Q&A before parade starts

Before heading out on the Duck Boats, members of the Boston Celtics gathered at TD Garden for a Q&A forum, hosted by former Celtic and current broadcaster Brian Scalabrine.

Players had the chance to comment on winning the championship.

"These guys were ready for that moment," said center Al Horford. "I'm happy we were able to get it done."

"I'm glad on this side now, " added guard Jrue Holliday. He noted when he first arrived to the team this year, he "knew that we had something special."

Guard Derrick White commented, "We didn't want to skip any steps...we knew what the end goal was."

Center Kristaps Porzingis said he was upset that he got hurt before being able to help the team wrap up the championship series.

"It was heartbreaking for me," he said. "We took care of business."

"Whatever it took for us to win, that's what we were willing to do," Shooting guard Jalen Brown added.

"It starts from the top down," said forward Jayson Tatum, on how the players function on the court, citing Horford as his prime example of inspiration.

How many championship parades have used the duck boats?

The duck boats have been used for championship parades in Boston since 2002. The  Boston Duck Boat website  states, "Boston Duck Tours, over the years, has had the honor and pleasure of hosting four of Boston’s sports teams in Rolling Rally Championship parades 12 different times."

According to the website, with duck boats "players could stand on, and wave to the crowds below. It was close enough to get these players right up to their fans. But, also far enough to keep them from being mobbed by the crowds."

A busy three-week stretch in professional golf comes to an end this week in connecticut.

travelers-championship-signage-g.jpg

The 2024 Travelers Championship appears to be heading to an exciting finish. Taking to TPC River Highlands once again, Sunday's final round has moved into a playoff as world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Tom Kim battle for the trophy and a massive prize money payout .

Failing to card a single under-par round in a tournament for the first time in his professional career, Scheffler looks to get back on the wagon and capture his sixth victory of the season. A win at TPC River Highlands would be his first at a course which saw Xander Schauffele reign supreme in 2022.

The world No. 2 continues to display his consistency on a weekly basis and has now notched four straight top 10s dating back to the Wells Fargo Championship. With plenty of form in tow, Schaffuele seeks his second win of the season and second trophy at the Travelers Championship.

The claim: US government is forcing men 18-26 to join the military

A June 16 Facebook video ( direct link , archive link ) shows a man claiming America has reinstituted a draft.

"The US Forcing Men To The Military (sic)," reads the on-screen text. "Men Ages 18-26 Gotta Go."

The post garnered more than 4,000 shares in two days. Other versions of the claim were shared on Facebook , Threads and X, formerly Twitter .

Our rating: False

This is a misrepresentation of a bill passed by the House of Representatives that would automatically register men between the ages of 18 and 25 for the Selective Service. The bill does not draft or automatically enlist anyone, it simply makes registration automatic instead of requiring each person to do it individually.

House bill would amend pre-existing registration law

The House of Representatives passed HR 8070 , also known as the "Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act," on June 14. The bill, which has not yet been signed into law, would automatically register all male U.S. citizens and men residing in the U.S. who are at least 18 and not yet 26 in the Selective Service. The automatic registration wouldn't apply to "lawful nonimmigrants" described in the Immigration and Nationality Act , such as foreign ambassadors and aliens visiting the country temporarily for business, according to the bill.

This registration isn't a new requirement, however.

The bill's text says it aims to amend the Military Selective Service Act , which already requires men in this age group to register for the Selective Service.

Fact check : Video of Biden calling for a military draft is AI-generated, not real

Justine Tripathi , a spokesperson for the House Armed Services Committee , which is chaired by the bill's sponsor Rep. Mike Rogers , told USA TODAY the Facebook post misrepresents the contents of the bill.

“Under current law, men who are U.S. citizens between the ages of 18 and 25 are required to register for the Selective Service," she said in an email. "A provision in the House-passed NDAA would automatically register all men, who are U.S. citizens (or are residing in the U.S.) and between the ages of 18 and 25, for the Selective Service. Failure to register for the Selective Service can impact employment and the ability to receive government assistance but sometimes young men are unaware they need to register for the Selective Service until it’s too late. This provision would eliminate those future headaches."

It is currently a federal felony to not register for the Selective Service if you're part of the aforementioned group of men. The crime is "punishable by fines or a prison sentence" and may affect eligibility for federal jobs, citizenship or state-funded student financial aid.

Tripathi also noted there hasn't been an active draft in over 50 years , and establishing one would require a separate act.

USA TODAY reached out to the user who shared the post for comment but did not immediately receive a response.

Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail maintenance start and end time for patch 7.0

Here's when the Final Fantasy 14 servers go down and when they (hopefully) go back up

Final Fantasy 14

The latest round of Final Fantasy 14 server maintenance is nearly here, meaning you won't be able to play the MMO for 48 hours as Square Enix gears up for Dawntrail.

While Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail isn't due to go live properly until July 2, thanks to Early Access, those who have pre-ordered the expansion will get to play days before on June 28. As a result of all of that, the Final Fantasy 14 servers need to be taken down for some TLC before Early Access mostly opens the floodgates before the full weight of the expansion's popularity tests the servers to the fullest on July 2.

Read on to find out when the Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail maintenance starts, when it should hopefully end, and how Square Enix feels about the state of the MMO's servers. We can only hope that we're not in for an Endwalker-style situation, which saw plenty unable to play due to server congestion.

FF14's Graha Tia takes a big bite out of some food

Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail maintenance start time

  • 2am PDT (June 26)

Final Fantasy 14's Dawntrail maintenance begins at 2am PDT on June 26 for 48 hours, meaning servers should return at 2am PDT on June 28. Read the list above to see what time that is where you're at in the world.

It's worth noting that 48 hours is Square Enix's aim and that maintenance may take longer. That said, the developer confirms it'll certainly not be any shorter than that.

You'll also want to keep the above times in mind, as Final Fantasy 14 will start to wind down before server maintenance begins. Data Center Travel and The Home World Transfer Service will cease 30 minutes before server maintenance begins, for example.

Once that's all done, it'll be time to see how Final Fantasy 14 servers fair against returning fans keen to try Dawntrail. The good news there, especially from director and producer Naoki 'Yoshi-P' Yoshida, is that the team can now open "new servers with a press of a button," so "there's almost no chance" Dawntrail servers will suffer like Endwalker.

Weekly digests, tales from the communities you love, and more

If you weren't around for Endwalker, the queues to get in were so massive that Square Enix suspended sales for a spell of time and offered those already playing free game time.

While Final Fantasy 14 has been growing in popularity since A Realm Reborn just over 10 years ago, the MMO got a huge shot in the arm close to Endwalker's release thanks to a myriad of other factors, like World of Warcraft streamers bringing their audiences to the MMO as many were collectively fed up with the state of WoW. Final Fantasy 14 has opened plenty of new servers since, though that also proved challenging at first as COVID-19 made building the dang things difficult.

Regardless, with Final Fantasy 14's Dawntrail Early Access launch nearly here, we don't have long to wait and see how the MMO holds up.

Final Fantasy 14's Yoshi-P "would love" to see the MMO on Nintendo's Switch successor as everyone should have access to the game "regardless of device."
