HOZIER SCORES FIRST EVER UK & IRELAND NUMBER 1 SINGLE WITH “Too Sweet”

Taken from his latest EP release “Unheard” – Out NOW!

Follows Global Spotify Domination with #1 Spotify Charts in Ireland, USA, Canada, UK, Australia and New Zealand

#2 Spotify Global Top 50

First Top 10 Debut on US Billboard Hot 100 Chart

Hozier has also landed his first ever UK Number 1 single with “Too Sweet”. This achievement follows Hozier scoring his first ever #1 album in the UK Charts last August with his third studio album Unreal Unearth.

Hozier plays a sold-out show at Dublin’s Marlay Park on Friday, July 5th with special guests Ye Vagabonds, Lord Huron and Brittany Howard

Hozier has today landed his first ever Irish number 1 in the Irish Singles Chart with his International smash “Too Sweet”, taken from his latest EP release Unheard. This is the first #1 single for the Irish Musician and tops his previous chart peak of #2 for debut single “Take Me To Church” in 2014. With over 1.3 Million Irish streams to date on Too Sweet, it has now also been certified PLATINUM in Ireland.

In a message to his Irish fans, Hozier says “ Thank you so so much for this Irish #1. It's very unexpected and I'm thrilled and honored. Thank you for all the support. I'm so glad you're enjoying the song, it's a joy. I hope to see you soon. Thank you so much. "

The Irish Singles Chart #1 follows global domination across the Spotify Charts where Too Sweet hit #1 on the Irish, US, UK, Australian, Canadian and New Zealand Spotify Top 50 Charts and is currently sitting at #2 on the Global Spotify Top 50 Chart.

In the US Billboard Charts, Too Sweet debuted at #5 in the Billboard Hot 100 Chart – Hozier’s first Top 10 debut. It has since climbed to #4 in the charts.

The Unheard EP contains four brand new songs, originally recorded during the sessions for latest chart-topping album Unreal Unearth. These include 'Too Sweet’, 'Empire Now', 'Fare Well', and 'Wildflower and Barley’ featuring Canadian Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter and activist, Allison Russell. Speaking on the new tracks, Hozier says: “These are songs that might’ve made it to the circles of gluttony, limbo, violence and the outward ‘ascent’ respectively but could not for different reasons. I’m very glad I’ll get to share them with you.”

In August last year Hozier scored his third consecutive Irish #1 and his first ever UK number 1 with that very third studio album Unreal Unearth. The Irish superstar has cemented himself as one of the greatest songwriters in his field with a record that spawned world class tracks in  “Eat Your Young,”   “All Things End,”   “Francesca”  &  “De Selby (Part 2)” . He outsold the entire UK Top 5 combined in release week and also scored his first ever number 1 album in the Netherlands and top 5 spots in the USA and Germany. This summer will see Hozier perform outdoor shows, including a sold out headline show at Dublin’s Marlay Park on July 5th with special guests Lord Huron and Brittany Howard, plus a sold out date at London’s 45,000 capacity Finsbury Park on July 7th - which will be his biggest UK headline show to date. This follows what was an incredible 2023 on the live circuit which included a triumphant surprise set at Glastonbury, an acclaimed sold-out show at Dublin’s Malahide Castle, and over a million tickets sold worldwide for his sold-out headline tour, which saw him conquer arenas including x3 shows at Dublin’s 3Arena.

SCORES FIRST EVER UK NUMBER 1 WITH THIRD STUDIO ALBUM UNREAL UNEARTH

*Includes London’s OVO Arena Wembley & 3 nights at Dublin’s 3Arena

Off the back of scoring his first ever UK number 1 album with Unreal Unearth earlier this year, Irish superstar Hozier announces the biggest UK & Irish headline shows of his career. Kicking off in July next year, the run of shows will see him perform huge shows including London’s Finsbury Park & Dublin’s Marlay Park subject to licence. Next year’s shows come as Hozier has been tearing his way through a rapturous sold out US tour, including Madison Square Garden NYC, Red Rocks Amphitheatre Colorado, and will be finishing at the 17,000 capacity Hollywood Bowl, LA this Saturday. With over half a million (500,000) tickets sold this year alone, Hozier will bring his massive international ‘Unreal Unearth Tour’ back to the UK and Europe in December, which will see him conquer sold out arenas, including London’s OVO Arena Wembley and 3 nights at Dublin’s 3Arena.

General Admission Tickets are priced from €49.50 & VIP Tickets are available from HERE ,

Hozier finds himself as one of the greatest songwriters in his field with a record in Unreal Unearth that has spawned world class tracks in “Eat Your Young,” “All Things End,” “Francesca” & “De Selby (Part 2)” . In a week which saw incredible international chart success, he outsold the UK top 5 combined to score the top spot in Ireland.

With five Grammy® wins and sixteen nominations, Alabama Shakes star Brittany Howard follows up her massively acclaimed solo debut Jaime with the new single “What Now”. Like Jaime (whose celebratory single “Stay High” earned a Grammy for Best Rock Song), The album emerged through a deliberately free-flowing process, with Howard doubling down on the unfettered creativity that’s long defined her work.

In July 2023 Lord Huron and Ben Schneider’s Music for The Starling Girl, the Original Soundtrack accompanying the acclaimed film The Starling Girl was released. The album consists of both the movie’s original score by Lord Huron vocalist/songwriter Ben Schneider and the new Lord Huron song “Ace Up My Sleeve.” Which has already collected nearly 2 million Spotify streams.

Hozier is returning to Ireland this week to play three sold-out shows at the 3Arena and we have all the info you need ahead of the gigs

hozier tour dublin

Irish singer-songwriter Hozier is set to perform three sold-out shows at Dublin's 3Arena this week as part of his Unreal Unearth tour.

With over 22 billion global streams, numerous platinum album certifications, multiple award nominations and wins, Hozier is recognised as one of the foremost singer-songwriters of our generation.

The Wicklow-native, who performed at Dublin's Malahide Castle earlier this year , is now set for a trio of hometown shows this week on Tuesday (Dec. 19), Wednesday (Dec. 20) and Friday (Dec. 22), and for anyone who is heading along to the 3Arena over the coming days, we have all the info you need before the gig.

READ MORE - Ireland gig guide: Hozier, Damien Dempsey, Django Django and more

How to get there

By train/Luas:

The Luas is typically the fastest way to get to the 3Arena via public transport from the city.

If you're travelling by train to Dublin, simply board the Luas Red Line to The Point stop from either Connolly or Heuston Station.

This will helpfully take you straight to the doors of the 3Arena.

The full list of city centre stops on the Luas Red Line are here .

There are also several bus routes that take you close to the 3Arena, including the 151, which leaves you the nearest.

It runs every 10 minutes at rush hour. Get off at Castleforbes Road, the closest stop to the venue, which is just a two-minute walk from here. Full details on buses, routes and specific stops can be found at www.dublinbus.ie.

The 3Arena is roughly a 20 minutes' walk along the quays from O'Connell Street in Dublin's city centre.

From O'Connell Street, walk down the Northside Quays past the IFSC until you arrive at the indoor venue.

Driving to the 3Arena on the night isn't recommended, but if you are, there'll be limited car parking available at Point Village car park.

Support acts

Hozier will be supported by two bands across the three night run at the 3Arena.

At Tuesday and Wednesday's gigs, the opening act will be British indie rock band The Last Dinner Party, who cast their net of inspiration across artists and genres, from Kate Bush and David Bowie, glam rock and new wave, to unexpected moments of twelve-bar blues, classical overture and heavy synth breakdowns.

Singer Abigaille, guitarists Emily and Lizzie, keyboardist Aurora and bassist Georgia weave a fantasy of haunting melodies, explosive choruses, and lyrics that embrace tragedy and triumph in equal measure. At their shows, the band lead audiences through the soaring crescendos and pin-drop silences of the most debaucherous dinner parties, gathering a dedicated and growing company of attendees with every performance.

hozier tour dublin

Friday's concert at the 3Arena will see Hozier supported by Irish folk duo Ye Vagabonds, comprised of brothers Brían and Diarmuid Mac Gloinn who grew up playing music together around their hometown of Carlow.

After moving to Dublin in 2012, they quickly became a staple of the live music and session scene in Ireland, playing their own original songs as well as folk songs from Ireland, Scotland, England and America.

After a chance meeting at Electric Picnic in September 2015, the brothers performed onstage with Glen Hansard, who invited them to open for him on his European tour the following October. Their debut EP Rose & Briar was released on October 7th 2015.

Since then, they have been busy touring Ireland, the UK and Europe, opening for acts such as Villagers, Roy Harper and Lisa Hannigan (whose band they played in for her Irish tour, June 2016).

in 2022 they released their third album Nine Waves again to emormouse critical acclaim.

While we expect Hozier to throw in a few surprises for his home crowd, here's the setlist from the singer \ songwriter's gig in London last Friday which gives us a strong clue to what fans can expect to hear in Dublin this week.

  • De Selby (Part 1)
  • De Selby (Part 2)
  • Jackie and Wilson
  • To Be Alone
  • Dinner & Diatribes
  • Cherry Wine
  • To Someone From A Warm Climate (Uiscefhuaraithe)
  • Like Real People Do
  • Abstract (Psychopomp)
  • Would That I (with Abigail Morris)
  • Almost (Sweet Music) (with band introductions)
  • Eat Your Young
  • First Light
  • Take Me to Church
  • Nina Cried Power
  • Unknown/Nth

Important info

Under 16s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian over 18, who must take full responsibility for them at all times and remain with them throughout the outdoor gig.

Concertgoers should also be aware that the 3Arena has a maximum bag size limit in place of 40cm x 40cm x 20cm, and large rucksacks, luggage or oversized bags are not permitted.

Hozier announces huge Dublin gig for 2024

Anyone who missed out on tickets to see Hozier at the 3Arena this week still has a chance to see the singer live as he recently announced his biggest ever Ireland and UK headline shows.

As part of his ongoing Unreal Unearth tour, Hozier is now set to play Dublin's Marlay Park on Friday, July 5, 2024.

This will be a bigger gig than his sold-out out show at Malahide Park this summer, which has a capacity of 20,000.

Marlay Park in south Dublin can hold double that figure at its outdoor concerts.

The singer-songwriter will be supported for the outdoor summer shows next year by Alabama Shakes star Brittany Howard and US indie rock band Lord Huron.

A limited number of tickets for the Marlay Park are still available from ticketmaster.ie.

Hozier in 3Arena: A sleek, polished and powerful performance from the Wicklow man

‘very good to be home’: hozier returns to dublin as a conquering hero.

3Arena, Dublin

A lot can change in the space of a decade. Andrew Hozier -Byrne knows this only too well; this time 10 years ago, his debut single Take Me to Church was still gaining traction thanks to its zeitgeist-capturing lyrics, a powerful accompanying video and the majestic, self-assured swell of its commanding chorus. Tonight, the besuited Wicklow man returns to Dublin as a conquering hero, at the tail end of a gruelling tour that has taken him across the US and Europe in recent months. It’s the first of three sold-out nights at Ireland’s biggest indoor venue; no wonder, as he puts it himself, it’s “very good to be home.”

The result of that touring has meant that at this stage, Hozier and his superb band (who, with the exception of drummer Rory Doyle and bassist Alex Ryan, are all from Nashville and New York) are a well-oiled and finely-tuned machine. From the ceiling, upside down, bare-boned trees hang oppressively, a reference to his third album Unreal Unearth . The stage and lighting design – the latter courtesy of Dublin’s Steven Douglas (who also does The Killers’ lighting) – is particularly excellent. He steps into the spotlight to a deafening roar, flirting with Celtic mysticism on De Selby (Part 1) and lurching headlong into the jagged rock of De Selby (Part 2). Jackie and Wilson, taken from his 2014 debut, is usually a sweet, lilting singalong but tonight it’s a heavier, more ragged affair – although From Eden is deft and melodious, showcasing the range and potency of his glorious voice.

Everything seems sleeker, more polished; even the band’s outfits match the muted colour scheme. Yet despite his international success, Hozier has not been Hollywoodised. Not yet, anyway. There is a moment in the encore, when introducing the politicised Nina Cried Power, where he drifts towards Bono-esque sermonising, but his stage patter generally remains tinged with an endearing awkwardness. “Still feeling good, Dublin?” he asks at one point, before adding: “Don’t worry, I’ll do my best to change that.”

[  Hozier: ‘This album was actually more not trying to be the control freak’  ]

[  Hozier: ‘If I wanted to make a f**king pop song, I would’  ]

In any case, it’s the music that rightly takes centre stage. The primal, bluesy stomp of To Be Alone reverberates around the arena. There is a flamenco-style flutter on Dinner & Diatribes, while Cherry Wine – as he reminds the crowd – was recorded “in an abandoned hotel in Greystones”. Tonight he performs it alone with an acoustic guitar, and the 13,000-strong audience go quiet in rapt devotion. The band come into their own as First Time brazenly doffs its cap to Van Morrison and on Almost (Sweet Music), which sounds like a lost soul song from the Stax catalogue, while Abigail Morris from support act The Last Dinner Party joins Hozier to duet on the dramatic flourish of Would That I, a song taken from 2019′s Wasteland, Baby album.

When it arrives at the end of his set, it’s clear that Take Me to Church still has firepower in abundance – yet it’s also patently evident that it’s far from Hozier’s best song. The luscious-locked Irishman has a multitude of hits that resonate just as widely now, such as the hymnal Work Song, which brings what has been an excellent gig to a close. Really, it’s difficult to find fault with anything. Hozier is now a certified superstar who indubitably walks the walk when it comes to live performances, yet hasn’t lost sight of what ultimately matters: writing a good song and performing it well. Welcome home.
