While there are several German 4-wheel drive twin turbo V8 super saloons to choose from, BMW M5 F90 should be regarded the benchmark in track performance.

Grand Tour 7th episode brings two variants of G30/F90 5-series to the Eboladrome test track - the M5 and Alpina B5 .

The B5 is softer, less track-focued version of M5 with same engine. Both are four wheel drive and well ahead of previous generation M5 lap time, as well as the BMW M4 GTS - annoyingly, if you are a proud owner of the very track focused and testosterone-pumped two-door GTS.

Past V Future | The Grand Tour Season 1 – Episode Guide, Recap & Fun Facts

In this episode, the tent is pitched in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. Clarkson and May compare a BMW i3 to a VW GTI, Hammond is taught to drift, and the trio drag races a Porsche 918 against a Veyron and a Nissan Patrol.

May’s BMW i3 VS Clarkson’s VW GTi

The show starts with Clarkson and May comparing the BMW i3 to the V Golf GTi. They conduct a road test around London in which they find out that the i3 is cheaper than the GTi because of the tax relief and rewards you receive from the government due to it being an electric car. Clarkson obviously doesn’t like this and starts making fun of it while asking the public if James has thanked them yet.

At London Airport they conclude that the i3 is faster over short distances, but overall, the petrol powered GTi is the faster car. It also has a larger range but the i3 can be recharged for free.

After a race to a pub, the VW is considered the better car.

Conversation Street

They begin with Dubai and how much it has evolved in the past years. Their driving laws have also grown as Jeremy gives an anecdote regarding drink driving. They discuss what should result in being taken to prison in the UK and Clarkson expresses his hate of hot airplanes.

They briefly discuss the Hyperloop train, which will travel at speeds of up to 500mph.

James Meets Winchers

May spends some time with the so-called ‘Winchers’ and spends some time off-roading 4x4s in deep, wet mud. James gets covered in mud and doesn’t enjoy it.

Celebrity Brain Crash

F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo drives a hovercraft to the event, but before landing, crashes and gets sucked into the fan.

Porsche 918 VS Bugatti Veyron

Hammond takes a Porsche to Dubai and forms a race against a Bugatti Veyron. It’s a drag race which the hybrid Porsche easily wins, until it’s faced with a Nissan Patrol 1,900 horsepower Nissan Patrol.

Hammond Learns How To Drift

It turns out that Hammond has always had a stunt driver double. So the boys tell him to go to Michelin’s proving grounds in France to learn how to drift. It takes a while for him to get the hang of it, but eventually he’s oversteering gracefully.

He then has to prove himself against two professional drifters – one 13-year old and a double amputee at Rockingham Motor Speedway.

This moves us onto the finale in which a number of outtakes of Clarkson and Hammond failing at drifting are shown.

Ever since the departure of the previous Top Gear hosts, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, almost all car enthusiasts have been waiting with bated breath for their new show, “ The Grand Tour “. Well, today they launched the very fist episode on Amazon Prime TV, where the show can be seen every week.

In the first episode, Clarkson introduces their new test track, while poking fun at the Top Gear test track just a bit. While Clarkson introduces us to the track as a Ferrari 488 GTB drives around it, he does a bit of a test drive on it in a BMW M2 . While he claims that this wasn’t a proper road test of the M2, which will likely come later, he does have some very nice things to say about it.

By very nice things, I mean he claims it to be the best M car BMW has ever made. We already knew Clarkson was a fan of the M2 , but that is a massively bold statement and one I doubt many will agree with. While we have no doubt that the M2 is the best M car currently on sale, and probably the best since the 1 Series M, calling it the best M car ever made is quite a statement considering the monumental cars that came before it.

Cars like the E28 M5 , E30 M3 , E46 M3 CSL and the E39 M5 are all unbelievably good cars and it’s hard to think of any modern M car being better. However, Clarkson has driven all of them and has been doing this for a long time. So it’s possible he’s on to something. He also likes making outlandish statements to piss people off and make journalists, like the idiot trying this right now, say things on the internet about how outlandish he is. So who knows, really.

Either way, it’s pretty obvious he likes the M2. Following his test drive, he puts it in the hands of The Grand Tour’s new racing driver. Some say the BBC wouldn’t let them have The Stig back, so they went out at procured a new driver. Being that the show is hosted by Amazon, which is an American company, they felt they should get an American driver. So that got Mike Skinner, of NASCAR, to do the timed laps around their test track. After they taught him to make right-hand turns, of course.

During Skinner’s lap, he makes quite a lot of colorful comments about the M2, being that he isn’t a fan because it has less than eight cylinders and isn’t made in America, so it’s clearly a communist car. Despite being a communist car, he finishes the lap and they put its time up on a board with other benchmark cars they tested. On the lap board, it actually doesn’t fair so well, being faster than only a Honda Civic Type R and slower than the BMW M3 . Despite that, though, Clarkson remains headstrong that it’s better than the other M cars and, after quite a lot of friendly ribbing, the other two hosts agree that it is very good.

So, we’re only one episode into The Grand Tour, which is very good so far for those who haven’t yet seen it, and we already get a BMW M2 review. We can’t wait to see what other cars they test next week.
