Top 5 airlines serving from manila to los angeles.

ANA was wonderful just needed to upgrade the food and the entertainment.

Traveling with family should be sitted together. On our connecting flight we were all scattered.

The crew was so accommodating. If I asked for extra snack they gave it to me. In economy the seats were wide and plenty of legroom. The backrest should have reclined a little more. Instead it barely moved. The footrest was helpful. Overall, my experience was good and I would recommend ANA as an alternative to other oversees low-cost airlines.

excellent, the food was excellent and delicious, and the crew were very helpful and accommodating. thank you very much

Older 777 - showing lots of wear - Premium econo seats that are difficult to recline and worn springs to they don't return to takeoff position without standing and pulling them forward

I booked a ANA flight, this was just a regular United flight — as always very bad, dirty, rude service, quite frankly really embarrassing to be flying with this after spending time in Japan.

Staff and crew are wonderful, professional and courteous. Meal is delicious and snacks can be improved. Entertainment needs improvement, pls update selections of movies. I appreciate that our flight was on time

I flew economy class so of course it’s not as roomy as business and first class. But overall it was ok and the seat had an interesting way to recline — the seat itself extended forward instead of the backrest. This way the person sitting behind me would not lose space by my reclining—excellent concept. I wish all airlines used these seats.

The space for the seats i like it. Its not too close like other air line. The food is ok and also the staff. I'm waiting for my flight rewards point because until now i didn't recieved it.

Flying with ANA is always a breeze. Seats are very comfortable.

The flight from Taipei to LAX was the first time we encountered rudeness from the crew. From the gate agents to the in flight crew. We had received such wonderful service going to Bali and on our Bali to Taipei flight that it shocked us when the gate agent was rude and then the rudeness continued on the flight to LAX.

Overall great experience. All four members of my family were seated together without paying extra to reserve seats. Everything was on time. Food was great and healthy. Media entertainment was good. Rock music could be added as a listening choice. No issue with baggages. Flight attendants were friendly and helpful. I would recommend EVA to friends and family.

As a senior traveller it’s difficult to be seated all the way at the back

I was expecting that movie selection and food would have been better. Everything else was great.

The type of the food requested (Asian vegetarian) was not properly met with. They have very limited snack items that may compensate for the main meals.

The flight was ok. The person who brings tea and coffee totally forgot about us or just walked past at both meals. And special attention is given if you are Taiwanese

The quality of the food is pretty good. Thank you, EVA Air.

Great food in business class. Great service by staff. They were all so very nice

Pleasant crew. Very long flight, a bit uncomfortable at times being seated, but not too bad.

No ice for the drinks. Only gave a half a cup of your beverage. Not enough water. I got very dehydrated.

Wow they board very fast and very organized. We left late to to inbound flight but arrived early due to crew organized.

Management of serious allergens despite advance notice. Did not know ingredients contained in their own food. Went as far as to have parents try to ‘take a look at the food’ to ‘see if it was Ok’ since they did not know ingredients. Will inevitably have a passenger with a severe incident if they do not train better.

Great service. Premium coach seat was uncomfortable. Food was non-descript.

Will definitely try to book with them again next time. FAs are very helpful and nice, bathroom always clean & flight was comfortable.

Enjoyed all.. clean and FAs are very nice. Will most likely book again in the future.

All of the JAL flights in this itinerary were great. However the last leg of my flight from LAX to SFO was through Japan Air’s partner, AA which wqsn’t up to par. We were informed only minutes before boarding time of a delay despite the airlines knowing about the delay far earlier (the aircraft we would be taking arriving arrived and disembarked close to our boarding time, for all to see but AA still kept the original boarding time posted until last minute). Furthermore, once we boarded the taxi/wait time was also extended, with the pilot blaming “construction at SFO” for the delay, rather than taking accountability for the the plane’s late arrival coming into LAX. We took off approximately an hour later than scheduled. It’s for these reasons I adamantly avoid American Airlines when possible. Again, JAL was stellar.

Great service but food taste and options have gone down a few notches.

This airlines is always my favorite. Very consistent customer service and food is good. My last flight with them, I had no idea we landed because it was just that smooth of a land.

At least it was not very cold inside the plane. I noticed there was now a bidet in the bathroom and that’s good! I didn’t like the window seat. Flight was smooth except for 1 turbulence. Plane was on time. Thanks. Food was not that great. Miso and green tea were good! As usual movies were old and there were no changes.

The food was not that good. I liked the miso, green tea, and ice cream. I wasn’t able to put my carry on bag under the seat in front of me. The flight was smooth. Please expand your choices of movies especially the new ones. I can’t choose any of those films. They’re old.

The flight who provided services on my row had some not-nice attitude and not smiling at all.

My flight to Los Angeles was canceled Had to book another flight and you charged me extra $500 Very bad experience

Comfort was left wanting due to such a long flight, made the wife and I wish we could upgrade the seats to Business class or First Class, but did not have that option. Food was good but had very limited options and I have a dietary restriction which was difficult for the staff to accommodate since everything provided came with cheese on it. (Cheese could potentially kill me) Did not have an option to inform the staff until we were already in the air about the restriction and was not provided another option before flight departed.

Decent flight, staff was very good, especially with the turbulence during the flight due to weather. Comfort was about par with other airlines but since it was a quick flight, was not much of an issue for us.

The plane was uncomfortable. I paid extra for more legroom but the seat was still uncomfortable. Other seats on the same exact row didn’t have to pay extra but still have extra legroom. I didn’t understand why I needed to pay $170 for. It was Iike China airline just wants to make money off their passengers. It was unfair.

It was a 2 hour flight to Taiwan. Lunch was served. China Airlines goes above and beyond for their passengers.

They were helpful, considerate with asking us for standby preboarding with our infant, gave us toys and excellent service onboard. They were always on time, even early boarding once! All our luggage arrived intact, and they even brought our baby car seat to oversized for us. We love China Airlines!

Great flight, although I flew out of ONT and that is where my car is, lol

Better training to have qualified crews and services. My flight was from around 12 midnight Friday Taipei to Vancouver. After two hours first meal (2:00 Am -8:00 ) no crew available for even asking for some water. I was even willing to pay for water. For breakfast after 8 hours the only drink was tea and coffee no water or juice.

3 of the 4 flights had delays despite the weather being fine, but still managed to make all connections

Flight was cancelled and rescheduled to 205 in the morning at the peril of passengers. No hotels provided by the airline. Passengers left stranded at airport. Not acceptable. I was able to get a hotel at my own cost outside of the airport. No reimbursement. Won’t be my choice in for future travels.

Worst airline. They had 3 security checks just to get onboard and no notification prior. Had to throw away any liquid bought at duty free because one of the security checks was prior to boarding the plane. My onboard media console was not working, the flight attendant said they will check on it but did nothing. Pretended we did not ask for it to be rectified for a 17hr plane ride. Horrible experience. My first and last time taking Philippines Airlines.

Uncomfortable seats for international flights. No usb charging yet they want you to use your device for entertainment. Very poor.

The entertainment system is a mess. Told us to connect to mypal wifi to access movies ! BUT never told us you need to download another app to watch a movie.

The biz class to sh doesn’t even have. Tv screen , seats uncomfortable, food terrible and bathroom dirty

Upgrade their seats. They’ve got 20-year-old business class seats in their 777s. The food choices. On the way to Manila and the way back I thought we’re lousy compared to other carriers. The staff was fantastic and very happy.

Continual rescheduling of flights, inflight entertainment system did not work, staff not pleasant to interact with.

So far pal express is much better than Cebu pacific in terms of customers service and in flight crew. And on time departure and arrival . Especially if you're taking airbus 320 plane . But the small aircraft like bombardier . It usually delayed .

Not a pleasant experience from the start of booking first flight all the way through to the actually flight. Only saving grace is the food.

No power on an 11 hour flight? What a joke. Crew did not come by enough to get trash or offer water.

My biggest complaint is the comfort and no good movies to choose from. My headphones didn't work either. 😔

The flight was cancelled. I wasn't informed where to check in, how and when. It wasn't easy to get in contact with Cathay service representative, and they were not very helpful... The staff on the airport - Air Canada (I assume) were the most helpful, kind efficient, patient... Thank you for all your help and care, for your patience, for your professionalism!!!

The first economy rows have remote space in the seat which eats in the seating space. The seats are also smaller compared to other airlines.

The overall flight went well and the aircrew was pleasant.

Very comfortable Prem economy seats for a long haul flight. Had a problem with the tv that the crew fixed so was great!

we were upgraded which was a blessing and tender mercy for us. I fell the day before and was in extreme pain from knee to shoulder. Sitting in a more comfortable seat during the flight was an unexpected blessing and experience.

One of the worst flight in business class by qatar airways and I’m no stranger with qatar airways businesses class, I travelled with the extensively in the past 12 years

Very comfortable flights. Not so many new releases in terms of films.

I felt thirsty and asked the flight attendent for water, but no one came for more than half an hour.

The crew were fine. I didn’t enjoy the food at all. I found it unappetising and really had trouble eating it. The comfort level was fine and our return flight is with Cathay Pacific but honestly I probably wouldn’t fly Cathay Pacific again.

They were two hours late!! Threw everything else planned off.

Not a pleasant experience from the start of booking first flight all the way through to the actually flight. Only saving grace is the food.

No power on an 11 hour flight? What a joke. Crew did not come by enough to get trash or offer water.

Summer COVID bump intensifies in L.A. and California, fueled by FLiRT variants

A group of mostly skateboarders ride along the boardwalk in Santa Monica.

  • Copy Link URL Copied!

The new COVID-19 subvariants collectively nicknamed FLiRT are continuing to increase their dominance nationwide, fueling a rise in cases in Los Angeles County and growth in the coronavirus levels seen in California wastewater.

Taken together, the data point to a coronavirus resurgence in the Golden State — one that, while not wholly unexpected given the trends seen in previous pandemic-era summers, has arrived earlier and is being driven by even more transmissible strains than those previously seen .

It remains unclear how bad the COVID situation may get this summer, however. Doctors have said that by the Fourth of July, we may have a better feel for how the rest of the season will play out.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that the FLiRT subvariants — officially known as KP.3, KP.2 and KP.1.1 — make up a combined 62.9% of specimens nationwide for the two-week period ending Saturday. That’s up from 45.3% a month ago.

WESTWOOD-CA-JUNE 14, 2024: Graduates at the

L.A. County COVID cases, hospitalizations rise amid FLiRT variants summer uptick

While the numbers of coronavirus cases and hospitalizations are relatively low, the uptick is an indication of an expected summer wave, health experts say.

June 15, 2024

Experts say the new subvariants are more contagious than the winter’s dominant subvariant , JN.1.

California is now one of 15 states with high or very high coronavirus levels in sewage, according to the CDC. Those states are generally in the West and the South, as well as New England. Besides California, they are Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Wyoming.

Coronavirus levels in California wastewater overall have sharply increased since early May, a contrast to national trends, which indicate a slower rise. California’s latest weekly wastewater viral activity level was near the peak seen last summer.

In Santa Clara County, Northern California’s most populous, the levels in wastewater are considered high across a wide swath of Silicon Valley, from San José to Palo Alto.

Line chart shows COVID levels in wastewater. For the week ending on June 15, the California level is 6.02, considered high. Nationwide, the level is low at 2.0.

Coronavirus levels in L.A. County wastewater have remained generally stable after rising last month. For the week ending June 8, the most recent available, levels in sewage were at 15% of the peak from the winter of 2022–23 — up from 13% the prior week, but down slightly from 16% the week before that. Last summer peaked near the end of the season, when levels in sewage were at 38% of the 2022–23 winter height.

Reported COVID-19 cases continue to rise, though. For the seven-day period that ended June 16, there were an average of 154 per day reported in L.A. County, up from 121 the prior week. Reported cases are an undercount, as they indicate only tests done at medical facilities, and don’t include at-home tests. Nor do they reflect that far fewer people are testing for COVID when they’re sick.

The daily average number of people with COVID in L.A. County hospitals is also ticking up. There were an average of 138 per day for the week that ended June 15, up from 126 the week before.

COVID deaths remain stable, at fewer than one per a day, on average, for the week that ended May 28.

Positive test not needed for long COVID diagnosis, experts conclude

People with symptoms do not need to have tested positive for the coronavirus to be considered for a diagnosis of long COVID, a new report says.

June 5, 2024

The percentage of COVID tests at California’s medical facilities that are coming back with positive results continues to climb. For the week that ended June 17, 7.5% of statewide COVID tests came back positive, well above the 3.1% rate from a month ago. Last summer’s peak was 13.1%, recorded at the end of August.

The California Department of Public Health in June updated its guidance for older adults, “especially those with weakened immune systems.” Officials urged older people to stay up to date on vaccines, seek medication if sickened with COVID, and to consider extra precautions, such as wearing a mask in crowded indoor areas , opening windows and doors to increase ventilation, staying away from sick people, washing their hands often, and covering up coughs and sneezes.

The increases in certain coronavirus tracking data come as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in mid-June released new advice for vaccine manufacturers. In a June 13 statement, the agency urged that manufacturers, if feasible, design this autumn’s vaccine formula against KP.2 — one of the FLiRT subvariants — instead of its parent, JN.1.

The new recommendation overrides guidance from just a week earlier, when the agency had advised the vaccines to be designed against JN.1.

“This change is intended to ensure that the COVID-19 vaccines (2024-2025 formula) more closely match circulating SARS-CoV-2 strains,” the FDA said in a statement , referring to the formal name of the COVID-19 virus.

Older U.S. adults should get another COVID-19 shot, CDC recommends

Federal health officials say U.S. adults 65 and older who got a shot of the updated COVID-19 vaccine in the fall should get a booster dose now, if at least four months have passed.

Feb. 28, 2024

By this autumn, the prevailing COVID subvariant “will probably be closer to KP.2 than they would have been, perhaps, to JN.1,” said Dr. Peter Marks, director for the FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, in a press briefing Friday.

The mRNA-based vaccines, made by Pfizer and Moderna, will be able to produce shots this fall for KP.2. But the protein-based vaccine, made by Novavax, will remain designed against JN.1 — as mRNA vaccine manufacturing can be done more quickly, Marks said.

“What you can do when you’re making a protein-based vaccine versus an mRNA vaccine is different in terms of the agility to react to what’s coming up,” Marks said. Still, the difference between getting a vaccine designed against the newer KP.2 subvariant versus the slightly older JN.1 subvariant will probably not result in “that big of a difference.”

“We’re not going to have a preference,” Marks said, in terms of making a recommendation of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine over Novavax. “The best vaccine for going into this fall season is the one that you put in your arm.”

Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC) Moussa Faki Mahamat, French Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Stephane Sejourne, French President Emmanuel Macron, Jose Manuel Barroso, former President of the European Commission and former Prime Minister of Portugal, Rwanda's President Paul Kagame, Botswana's President Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, and Italy's Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, Britain's Foreign Secretary David Cameron and officials pose during the African Vaccine Manufacturing Accelerator conference, Thursday, June 20, 2024 in Paris. African and European leaders push for vaccines for Africa after COVID-19 exposed inequalities

French President Emmanuel Macron has joined African leaders to kick off a planned $1-billion project to accelerate the rollout of vaccines in Africa.

June 20, 2024

Marks said a vaccine designed against KP.2 “perhaps brings a little benefit” over one against JN.1. “By essentially using the freshest update, we hope to provide protection immunity that will last longer,” Marks said, into the late autumn and the winter.

“It’s like trying to give people the greatest edge, right? The one-hundredth of a second extra that you win [a race] with,” Marks said. “But I think the most important thing for people to know is, either way, either of these is perfectly good to get.”

Federal officials expressed hope that the COVID vaccine would be made available earlier this year than in 2023. Last year’s rollout was complicated because the updated COVID vaccine came out slightly later than the seasonal flu shots, making it more difficult for people to get both vaccinations at the same visit if they would’ve preferred that.

COVID-19 continues to remain a disease to guard against, doctors say. About 45,000 COVID deaths have been reported since Oct. 1 nationally, and doctors say those most at risk are older and immunocompromised people who haven’t received an up-to-date vaccination.

“This isn’t just going away into the night. It’s hanging around,” Marks said.
