“When I was growing up in poverty and unemployment, music took me out of that. Top Of The Pops on TV transformed your Thursday night into this fantasy world, and that’s what I think music should be. I want my music to be elevating and transforming in some way.”

About Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds:

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds first emerged in 2011 with their eponymous album released in October that year. It has sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide. Three #1 albums followed, marking a decade of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and culminating in 12 consecutive UK #1 album across Noel’s career, a feat no other artist has ever achieved.

In the two decades prior to its break up in 2009, Noel Gallagher was main songwriter, lead guitarist and occasional lead vocalist of Oasis, whom The New Yorker hailed as “one of the last generation-defining rock acts.” His band regularly toured America and played a tremendous role in shaping and inspiring contemporary guitar music from the 90’s onwards. Noel’s continued success with the High Flying Birds cements his position as one of the most gifted, successful and enduring songwriters to come out of the British music scene in the last 50 years.

About Garbage:

Since releasing their eponymous debut album in 1995 Garbage has blazed a unique sonic trail, garnering critical acclaim and amassing a passel of hits as well as seven Grammy nominations along the way to 17 million albums sold. The band—consisting of Shirley Manson, Duke Erikson, Steve Marker and Butch Vig—has been together for over 25 years with a unique sound, songwriting process and electric live performance that has inspired worldwide attention and earned their spot as one of the most influential bands of their generation.

No Gods No Masters , the seventh and most recent album from Garage, was released in 2021 to some of the best reviews of their career.  They have since commenced work on what will be their 8th studio album due for release early next year on BMG records.

About Metric:

Metric are a critically-acclaimed rock band from Toronto consisting of Emily Haines, James Shaw, Joshua Winstead and Joules Scott Key. The genre-defying and genre-defining band started playing together in NYC in 2001 and have gone on to receive multiple music industry honors across their 8 studio albums, including two Juno Awards for Alternative Album of the Year, have garnered more than half a billion streams across their catalog, and toured extensively around the world. The band’s expansive career has seen them collaborate with late rock legend Lou Reed, who sang on the band’s track “The Wanderlust” on their 2012 album  Synthetica , to inspiring movie characters, when future Academy Award-winner Brie Larson sang Metric’s song “Black Sheep” in the 2010 comedy  Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.

No stranger to radio, their 2012 single “Youth Without Youth” was the first single ever to debut at No. 1 on the Canadian alternative rock charts where it stayed for a record 16 weeks. Their latest release, 2022’s  Formentera , spun off another #1 Canadian Alternative Radio hit, “All Comes Crashing,” which also hit Top 10 in the U.S. Triple A radio chart. 2023 marks the band’s 20th anniversary of their debut album, 2003’s  Old World Underground, Where Are You Now? , but if their latest album is any indication, “they’ve still got plenty of gas in the tank” (NPR).

What to expect at the Noel Gallagher and Garbage concert tour: 'We're all beasts'

noel gallagher tour garbage

Shirley Manson and Noel Gallagher are about to spend the summer on a co-headlining tour that brings Garbage and Gallagher’s High Flying Birds to Talking Stick Resort Amphitheater on Sunday, June 11.

At the moment, though, they’re on a Zoom call, finishing each other’s sentences and responding to questions with freewheeling comedy bits, resulting in an interview that’s far more entertaining than illuminating.

There’s a rapport between the two that suggests they’ve been touring together for years. But this is actually their first time joining forces, although Garbage did rise to fame just a moment or two after Gallagher’s previous band, Oasis, emerged as the Britpop band most likely to conquer the world with “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?”

Their paths have crossed along the way, but Manson says Gallagher doesn’t remember, and when she tries to share the details, she is quickly interrupted by Gallagher's tale of a high-sea adventure with Omar Sharif and Peter Sellers.

It’s just that kind of interview.

Weekend plans? Hair hoppers and alt rock icons: These are the best things to do in Phoenix this weekend

How Garbage and High Flying Birds decided to tour together

How did you come to find yourselves touring together?

Shirley Manson: Well, my granny knows Noel's granny and everybody thought it would be a good idea if we toured America together.

Noel Gallagher: My granny said to Shirley's granny, "Look, I've had enough of him. And you've had enough of her, so let's pack them off to America."

I would assume your paths have crossed at some point through the years?

Gallagher: We've met.

Manson: Noel doesn't remember meeting me (laughs). But I remember meeting him, of course. I've never forgotten how lovely he was. And as a result, I've just been a big fan of his ever since. Actually, Garbage, we were obsessed with Oasis for a while. We watched them like maniacs on MTV when we were making our own records in the studio and were very inspired by them. So yeah, we're psyched to be on tour together. It's gonna be great.

You said you remember meeting him. What were the circumstances ?

Gallagher: Don't spoil it. Say something cool.

Manson: It was at the KROQ Christmas festival....

Gallagher (interrupting): I'll take it from here. We were on a (expletive) super yacht, right? In the Mediterranean with...

Manson (laughing): You myth maker.

Gallagher : With Omar Sharif. And….

Manson: Brigitte Bardot.

Gallagher : Brigitte Bardot and Peter Sellers. And Shirley turned to me and said, "Where did it all go wrong?" I said "I have no idea but I'm getting out of here." She said "I'm coming with you." And I said "Let's rock."

Manson: That was how it went.

I see. Why do I get the impression it's gonna be hard to get a serious answer out of Noel?

Manson : Yes, he's very difficult. It's a shame, really. He could have gone very far in the music industry. But you know, he's just unpleasant. And that's all we have. But we'll get through this interview. Don't you worry.

Alternative radio history: How a low-watt radio station in a Mesa strip mall became 'the key to your musical future'

Noel Gallagher on High Flying Birds' new album, 'Council Skies'

Noel, you have an album, "Council Skies," coming out the same day the tour starts. I've heard the singles. What can you say about the album as a whole?

Gallagher: Well, it was written in the first lockdown in 2020. It's quite a reflective album because I guess that year was quite reflective for everybody. I don't know what it was like in America but in Britain, we were all at home and I wrote a lot of material. I was going through a bit of (expletive) in my personal life and it's all there. I don't really want to tell people how to listen to a record but if you could sum it up with one word, it would be reflective.

Do you think releasing the "Back the Way We Came: Vol. 1 (2011–2021) " compilation as you were starting work on it had anything to do with putting you in that more reflective headspace? Or was that totally unrelated?

Gallagher: Do you want the honest answer?

Gallagher: There were a load of people sitting in an office not doing anything. And I was like, "We've got to do something." It was a weird time in 2020. And we decided it had been 10 years since I went solo and it seemed like a good time to put that record out. I wanted to keep us all focused on something and not just be moping around the house drunk at 3 o'clock in the afternoon.

I get that, although that can be fun for a few days.

Gallagher : It can be fun for nine months.

I know the title of your album comes from Pete McKee's book "Council Skies." I was hoping you could talk about how that became the title and what role that song played in how the album came together .

I was writing the song and in the bit that mentions "Council Skies," there was a gap in the words and I didn't know what I was gonna call it. And that book was on a coffee table at home and I just happened to glance at it. It's the same as when I wrote "Wonderwall." It had a gap in the lyrics and I had a poster of the film "Wonderwall" framed on a wall at home. I'd walk past it 1,000 times a day and never notice it. And that one particular day, the same with the book, I looked at it and thought, "Wow, what a great title."

'It was our Fillmore': Metro Phoenix had never seen a club quite like Dooley's in Tempe

Shirley Manson discusses a new Garbage album

Shirley, I know Garbage have been working on an album, your first since "No Gods No Masters." What can you tell me about how that's been going?

Manson: It's so hard to talk about a record when you're still in the middle of it. It's really difficult to see. But it's already got quite a different flavor from "No Gods," which was definitely kind of a political record in a funny way. You know, with a small p. This is a lot more personal, I think. And to steal from my comrade, Noel, it's definitely a bit more reflective. We all went through a lot during COVID and lockdown. I think we all got a little bit of PTSD. (laughs)

I certainly don't feel like the same person anymore, for whatever reason. So I think some of that's definitely influenced the writing. But as I said, you just don't know until it's done, especially with Garbage, because of the way we write. Everything gets sort of mashed up and cut up and put back together. It's sort of very Frankenstein the way that we work.

I know you were involved in assembling "Anthology." How did it feel to sift through all that music?

We put an anthology together just to sort of celebrate how long we've been together as a band. Our record company were pushing to get it together. At first, we were sort of like, "Uh, we've already done a best-of, let's not do that." And they were like, "But that was 15 years ago." We were sort of like, "Whoa, OK." We just literally took all the singles that had come out and put them on two pieces of vinyl and it felt significant.

I think nobody expected Garbage to last this long. Most of all ourselves, but I don't think the industry ever thought that we would have it in us to make it this far, you know? So I think we're proud of that.

It's very difficult to survive in the music industry at the moment, let alone a bunch of people who emerged in the '90s. It's highly competitive. It's hit-orientated. It's financially challenging for bands, which is why you don't see that many bands anymore. It's just financially a suck. And of course, record companies support solo artists, because they're cheaper to run and much easier to push around than a bunch of incalcitrant bastards who emerged in the '90s.

What do you think has kept Garbage together?

Manson : I don't know. I mean, I guess we have good chemistry. We're all beasts and we've got nothing better to do.

Shirley Manson and Noel Gallagher looking forward to the tour

Do you suspect that there's going to be any guesting on each other's sets on this tour?

Manson (laughing): No pressure, Noel.

Gallagher: Well, I am single and ready to mingle, so….

Is there anything you're especially looking forward to on this tour?

Gallagher : I'm just looking forward to the whole experience. I mean, I love touring America, particularly in the summer. I love being on the bus. I love my band and what I do. And it's just gonna be a great experience. You know, these things are what you make them. I'm determined that this is gonna be great. And I know Shirley feels the same way. And we're gonna have a great time.

Manson : Hurrah! Well, we're bringing out Metric, who are a fantastic band. I don't know if you've ever seen them play but they're more our style probably than Noel's style. They use a lot of electronics like we do. But Emily Haines is a fierce front woman. I'm gonna have my work cut out for me to follow her every night. So we're excited. It's a great package, actually. If you were into Garbage and Oasis and Noel and Metric, I think you're gonna have a really good summer with us. But I wouldn't say that, wouldn't I?

Garbage’s Shirley Manson excited about band’s victory ‘lap of honor’ on Noel Gallagher tour

Garbage is currently touring in support of its 2021 album “no gods no masters,” which manson says was “much more political than we have ever been and probably ever will be again.”.

Garbage features Steve Marker (from left), Duke Erikson, Shirley Manson and Butch Vig.

For Garbage singer Shirley Manson, touring with former Oasis member Noel Gallagher and his current band, the High Flying Birds, makes perfect sense. In addition to playing major roles in shaping alternative rock, both bands’ paths to success are interwoven from way back.

“Noel Gallagher and Garbage go back a long way,” Manson said during a recent interview. “We all started playing out on these big American radio festivals back in the ’90s.”

Gallagher was one of her earliest supporters, Manson said. When they first met, it was during ’90s Brit pop, which didn’t always have a “very friendly atmosphere to women,” she said. But Gallagher encouraged her to keep singing.

“Noel doesn’t remember this, but we met a long time ago, and he was so cool to me that I’ve always had nothing but love for him,” she said. “He has a special place in my heart, so I’m excited to go out [to tour] with him. He’s one of Britain’s premier songwriters.”

It also makes sense to return to play Chicago, a city extremely familiar to both artists. For Garbage, it was a short drive from their hometown of Madison, Wisconsin. Manson’s favorite memory was pre-Garbage, when the others asked her to join the band.

“My previous band was playing at Metro in Chicago, and they came to see me play there, and that’s where my whole career kicked off,” she recalled.

“Being that we’re a Madison-based band at the time, Chicago was the first premier city that we visited to play,” she continued. “It’s a great city and we’re excited to play [there].”

The band is touring to support its 2021 album, “No Gods No Masters,” which Manson said was “much more political than we have ever been and probably ever will be again.”

“We had gotten to the point where we really couldn’t keep our opinions to ourselves any much longer,” she said. “I think we felt that so many things were under threat, that we really had to just get some things out on record, which we did, and it felt so good to do so.”

When she sings these songs live, they “always get a quite surprisingly strong reaction from the crowd, which is always a really great sign.”

“In the middle of ‘The Men Who Rule the World,’ the audience would cheer whenever I got to a certain line,” she said. “You can’t ask for a better reaction than that when people actually participate in the show, that you’ve struck a chord with an audience.”

After touring last fall with Alanis Morissette, the band got back into the studio to start jamming on some new material. They’re looking forward to working on that new music later this year and releasing it at some point.

“It’s difficult to see what a record’s going to be like until you finished it,” Manson said. “With Garbage, songs can take wild turns in the studio process. So, it starts off as one thing and can end up as another. … We do try and make sure that every record that we ever put out is different from the previous one as a matter of pride and arrogance.”

Manson is thankful for all the enthusiastic support it’s received from fans the last three decades. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the band’s sophomore album “Version 2.0,” a fact that astounded Manson (“I’m ashamed to say I didn’t even know that it was our 25th anniversary. I mean, It’s a startling fact,” she said) and reminded her to include some of the album’s songs in its sets.

“Just to endure the music industry for this long is a spectacular triumph for any band. I don’t think we take that lightly,” she said. “We’ve worked really hard. We’ve played and played and played, and we’re now really confident that we’re a pretty good live band.”

“But we do realize that we’re one of the few survivors from our generation, and we don’t take that lightly,” said Manson. “That’s an insane privilege as a musician to be able to play this long, to make records for this long. It’s extraordinary. The same goes for Noel Gallagher. He’s been around a long time. So I think this will be a little bit of a lap of honor for both bands.”

Co-headlining tour featuring Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and Garbage hits Cincinnati

By: Emily Votaw Posted on: Monday, July 10, 2023

CINCINNATI, Ohio (WOUB) – Noel Gallagher’s High-Flying Birds and Garbage brought their 2023 co-headlining tour to Cincinnati’s Riverbend Music Center (6295 Kellogg Ave.) on the very muggy first Saturday in July.

Immediately, there are questions:

Sure, Garbage fans say they’re “only happy when it rains,” but what if the evening’s omnipresent threat of rain materializes and cuts the show short?

Will Noel Gallagher say anything bristly and comical about Taylor Swift, performing just down the road at Paycor Stadium?

Most pressingly: what’s the point of front section seats if everyone stands up the whole time?

Neither of my first two concerns materialize; but the last will remain an enduring mystery – probably until the end of time.

Everyone is in love with Shirley Manson (and they have every reason to be)

Let’s turn to Garbage, up first with their surging, post-grunge industrial pop.

Vocalist Shirley Manson knows how to front a band – she’s dramatic, she’s playful, she’s got a sense of controlled intensity that’s difficult to look away from. More than once throughout the set audience members shouted “goddess!” and no one had trouble figuring who they were referring to. (Listen to WOUB’s Ian Saint’s conversation with Shirley Manson, here)

Garbage opened their set the same way they opened their 1995 self-titled debut: with the volatile Supervixen . The song’s central “riff” – deliberate pauses punctuating hazy distortion – was famously a studio recording hardware fault before it was the best part of the song.

Up next was #1 Crush , the b-side of the group’s first single, Vow , and the opener of the soundtrack album for Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 Romeo + Juliet . Garbage then segued into the future with The Men Who Rule the World , off the group’s most recent release, 2021’s No Gods No Masters .

A constant part of the band’s performance, whether playing early career highlights like Run Baby Run , or more recent numbers like Freak Like Me , is a sense of dark romanticism.

It’s an aesthetic rooted in humanity’s dual fascination with death as a concrete concept and love as a far less tangible one. It’s a central strand of rock ‘n’ roll’s DNA, dating back to the murder ballads immigrants from the British isles brought with them into the rolling hills of Appalachia and beyond.

It’s the core sensibility of the melodramatic “tear jerkers”/”death discs” of America’s post-war period; songs like The Cheers’ Black Denim Trousers and Motorcycle Boots (1955) or Leader of the Pack by the Shrangri-Las (1964). Sure, those songs can sound a little “on the nose” thematically –  but the whole thing gets more palatable to the contemporary ear once it’s interpreted throughout the late ‘60s via spooky cosmic folk like pre- Electric Warrior Marc Bolan or proto-hard rock like The Doors or (in a druggier, less “romantic” kind of way) The Velvet Underground.

Once we get to the late ‘70s, this “dark romanticism” thing we’ve been tracing starts to look and sound a lot more directly like Garbage. This is the era of Siouxsie and the Banshees; perhaps Garbage’s most recognizable forerunner – not only in an aural sense – but visually, too. Garbage even covers Siouxsie and the Banshees’ Cities in Dust (aka the most danceable song you’re likely to find about Pompeii) on their latest record.

Garbage ended their set with the infectious LGBTQ+ anthem Cherry Lips (Go Baby Go!) – exiting the stage to appreciative applause.

Noel Gallagher: “What the f*ck is up, Cincinnati?”

While Garbage was more than happy to indulge fans in “the hits,” no one expected that of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds; despite regular cries of “Wonderwall!’ from the more obnoxious portions of the crowd.

Ohioans have again and again been named some of the foulest-mouthed Americans in the country, so it felt more familiar than abrasive when Gallagher took to the Riverfront stage with a simple “What the f*ck is up, Cincinnati?”

What the f*ck was up?

My current theory is “a lot of soccer/football drama concerning Manchester City and Arsenal foot ball clubs” – judging by the nearly constant stream of confrontational, baiting shouts coming from the audience throughout the early portion of the High Flying Birds’ set. A key piece of evidence: a cut out of Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola standing against one of the band’s amplifiers on an otherwise simple stage setup.

The Manchester City football club looms large in the context of the band’s identity: the black and white urban-industrial scene on the cover of the group’s freshly released Council Skies shows the High Flying Birds’ equipment set up where the club’s Maine Road stadium stood from 1923-2003.

The cover of "Council Skies," which is black and white and shoes a rock band set up in an urban and industrial landscape.

Noel began performing his solo material as Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds shortly after Oasis broke up in the late aughts. The name of the project itself betrays Noel’s passionate, meticulous brand of English music geekiness: the structure is reportedly a nod to Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac; and the term “high flying bird” comes from High-Flying Bird , the folk song by Billy Edd Wheeler and perhaps most famously recorded by Jefferson Airplane.

“Prickly,” “grouchy,” “cantankerous” – these are all words used to describe Noel Gallagher’s seemingly gruff exterior. And while he was suitably prickly throughout the band’s performance in Cincinnati – Noel softened noticeably after a fan from the front row caught his attention with the declaration that they’d seen the High Flying Birds just the week before.

Seemingly caught off guard, Noel paused long enough to make one worry.

Relief came quickly: “Well, aren’t you the f*cking superfan! It’s a pleasure to have you!”

Now Noel seemed more amicable to indulging even the less enlightened portions of the audience – playing five Oasis songs: The Masterplan, Going Nowhere, Little By Little, Half the World Away, and Live Forever .

Ultimately the High Flying Birds would end their set with one of Oasis’ biggest US hits – Don’t Look Back in Anger , but not before throwing in an excellent (and oddly illuminating) rendition of Bob Dylan’s Quinn the Eskimo (The Mighty Quinn) .

The concert ends. Only two questions are answered for sure:

Does America “get” Noel Gallagher?

Of course not.

Don’t fret – he’s got multiple sold out dates on the European leg of the High Flying Birds tour coming up, so he’ll soon bask in the appreciation he deserves.

More interestingly: does Noel Gallagher “get” America?

Of course he does.

The creeping swell of Elvis’ melancholy rendition of Blue Moon as the audience at the Riverbend Music Center drifted out into the parking lot is proof enough.

Garbage and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds have announced a co-headlining tour of North America for this summer. The tour, produced by Live Nation, features special guest Metric and perform at Pine Knob Music Theatre on Thursday, July 6 at 7 p.m. Pine Knob Music Theatre is presented by Proud Partners United Wholesale Mortgage, Trinity Health and Ally.

This is the first time Noel and his High Flying Birds have hit the road in North America since 2019, when they made stops across the USA and Canada with the Smashing Pumpkins. The first tour date in Washington State coincides with the release day for Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ much anticipated fourth album Council Skies.

2021 saw Garbage on an extensive tour following the release of their most recent album, No Gods No Masters; of the live shows, Consequence raved, “Once the curtain dropped, Garbage whipped the fans in the pit to a frenzy…clad in pink and rocking a mic stand adorned with a matching feathered boa, Manson revealed a rock star stage presence that has refined over the past two decades. At the Greek, Garbage proved they are going 20 years strong, and their legacy demands closer observation.”

Garbage and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds will be supported by Metric, who released their most recent album, Formentera, last year. It was their most commercially successful release in a decade and was accompanied by a sold-out tour spanning the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and Europe.

About Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds

About Garbage

Since releasing their eponymous debut album in 1995 Garbage has blazed a unique sonic trail, garnering critical acclaim and amassing a passel of hits as well as seven Grammy® nominations along the way to 17 million albums sold. The band—consisting of Shirley Manson, Duke Erikson, Steve Marker and Butch Vig—has been together for over 25 years with a unique sound, songwriting process and electric live performance that has inspired worldwide attention and earned their spot as one of the most influential bands of their generation.

No Gods No Masters, the seventh and most recent album from Garage, was released in 2021 to some of the best reviews of their career.  They have since commenced work on what will be their eighth studio album due for release early next year on BMG records.

About Metric

Metric are a critically-acclaimed rock band from Toronto consisting of Emily Haines, James Shaw, Joshua Winstead and Joules Scott Key. The genre-defying and genre-defining band started playing together in NYC in 2001 and have gone on to receive multiple music industry honors across their eight studio albums, including two Juno Awards for Alternative Album of the Year, have garnered more than half a billion streams across their catalog, and toured extensively around the world. The band’s expansive career has seen them collaborate with late rock legend Lou Reed, who sang on the band’s track “The Wanderlust” on their 2012 album Synthetica, to inspiring movie characters, when future Academy Award-winner Brie Larson sang Metric’s song “Black Sheep” in the 2010 comedy Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.

No stranger to radio, their 2012 single “Youth Without Youth” was the first single ever to debut at No. 1 on the Canadian alternative rock charts where it stayed for a record 16 weeks. Their latest release, 2022’s Formentera, spun off another #1 Canadian Alternative Radio hit, “All Comes Crashing,” which also hit Top 10 in the U.S. Triple A radio chart. 2023 marks the band’s 20th anniversary of their debut album, 2003’s Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?, but if their latest album is any indication, “they’ve still got plenty of gas in the tank” (NPR).

Oasis announce surprise new release on 30th anniversary

Oasis band members Noel Gallagher and Liam Gallagher

Oasis are releasing a live recording of their first debut single, Supersonic, in celebration of its 30th anniversary – but sadly, still no word on an official reunion between the Gallagher brothers.

It has been announced that an early live recording from a gig at the Limelight, Belfast on September 4, 1994, has been released onto streaming platforms by Oasis today.

The recording was made just a week after the release of their album, Definitely Maybe , and just before taking to the stage, the band learned that their debut album had reached number one on the UK Official Album Chart.

The tune, which reached number 31 on the UK Singles Chart, was the band’s first release and famously was written and recorded in one day.

Noel Gallagher , 56, claims it only took him half an hour to write the song. He has said that another song was scrapped and they had to pull something together in the Liverpool recording studio where they recorded the album.

The release is an interesting move from the band which has been broken up for 15 years after a pretty public falling out between Noel and Liam Gallagher , 51.

The band split in 2009 when Noel wanted to go solo after persistently butting heads with his brother since their band formed in 1991.

Reports suggested that the brothers struggled to work with each other for the 18 years they were in Oasis together.

Several incidents took place while they worked together including Liam questioning the paternity of Noel’s daughter, leading to a punch-up, and another fallout which led Noel to hit Liam with a cricket bat.

In an interview with NME, Noel previously said of Liam: ‘I don’t know who the guy is who’s in these interviews, he seems really cool, because the guy I’ve been in a band with for the last 18 years is a f*****g k******d.’

Fifteen years on since their split, the brothers are still not on speaking terms and still take opportunities to publically lash out at each other.

Although it was announced this month that Oasis’ 30th anniversary tour will feature two Gallaghers , Noel will not be one of them, as the singer still refuses to work with his brother.

The newly released song has a raw and rockier song than the original recording and will certainly be a great listen for die-hard Oasis fans.

David Neely, who was the General Manager and booker at the venue where the song was recorded in 1994, reminisced on the night of the gig, recalling that the show is still ‘legendary’ in Belfast.

‘It was a sell out 500 people at the gig and tickets only £6.75! The Sunday of the week the debut album was released, the Limelight show was the right venue, for the right band at the right time,’ he said.

‘I remember around 6.30pm (in the dark days before mobile phones) that a call came into the office from Radio One, saying the band had just went to Number one in the album charts. It was a show that is now claimed by thousands that they were there – simply a show that is legendary in these parts.’

Supersonic (Live at The Limelight, Belfast) is now available on streaming platforms .
