From there, we’ll take care of the rest. For travelers who book flights with us, our in-house team of travel experts will get to work finding flights with our trusted airline partners. And as you count down to tour, we’ll be busy booking clean, stylish, comfy hotels, planning meals at locally loved restaurants, and securing tickets to top museums, cultural sites, and, if it applies to your tour, special events.

Having our team of travel experts take care of every last logistical detail is one of  10 benefits of a guided tour versus independent travel .

How do I pick the right tour for me?

When browsing our 175-plus vacation packages, here are a few things to keep in mind to help you find the just-right tours for travel to the places you’ve been dreaming of visiting.

• Your travel style.  Are you into wildlife, adventure, or food and wine? Do you want to take a deep dive into a particular destination or religion?  Want to experience a special event, or explore with a small group? We offer escorted tours designed around these  travel styles  and others so that travelers can have the experience that suits them best.
• Where you want to go.  Whether you’ve long dreamed of exploring America’s national parks, Scotland’s pristine landscapes, or Thailand’s golden temples, you can do it on our guided tours. Some of our itineraries are designed to offer travelers a deeper dive into a single country. Others take travelers to multiple countries in a single trip (think Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, or Portugal, Spain, and Morocco).
• When you want to go.  Sure, there’s nothing like Paris in the springtime. But maybe seeing the City of Light against a backdrop of fiery fall foliage is more what you have in mind. We’ll make that happen. We offer dozens of departures per tour, and in the case of some trips, we offer departures all year round. And, we make tours available for booking up to two years in advance. Having more time to pay, and more departure dates to choose from, are among the  eight benefits of booking a trip years in advance .
• Special or seasonal events.  Have you always wanted to see cherry blossoms blooming in Japan? Or sip hot, mulled wine while wandering around a  European Christmas market ? Perhaps witnessing the Great Migration is at the top of your travel wish list. Events like these, and others, only happen during certain times of year, so be sure to check out tour packages for travel that occur at the same time.
• Duration.  Our tours range from six days to 22 days. Want to enjoy a quick break? Consider our shorter tours, which we offer in destinations such as Iceland, Spain, and Amsterdam. Have more time to spare? A  10-day trip to Scandinavia , or a  22-day tour of Australia and New Zealand , could be just the ticket.
• Who you want to travel with.  Many of our group trips are designed for groups of 15 to 38 travelers. (Think: more opportunities to make new friends.) If you prefer a more intimate experience, consider one of our Small Group Tours, which are designed for groups of 10 to 22 travelers. Want to explore solely with your friends or family? We happily craft  Private Tours and Customized Tours for groups of seven travelers or more.

• Guided group tours.  These trips are designed for groups of 15 to 38 travelers and include  Multi-Country Tours , single-country tours, and  City Stay Tours , which give travelers an opportunity to explore a particular city in depth.
• Small Group Tours.  A more intimate tour experience with a group size of just 10 to 22 travelers.  Small group travel styles  include Food & Wine Tours, Adventure Tours, and Safari & Wildlife Tours.  
• Special Event Tours.  Typically capped at 35 or 38 travelers, these trips are designed to capture the magic of special and/or seasonal events, such as Oktoberfest, Oberammergau, New Year’s Eve, St. Patrick’s Day, Sakura (cherry blossom) season, fall foliage, Christmas markets of Europe, Halloween, and more. • Private and Customized Tours.  Have a particular interest you want to explore? We happily plan  Private and for groups of 10 or more travelers. Want to plan a Custom Tour ? Go custom with as few as 14 travelers. Enjoy everything you get on all of our tours (staff-vetted hotels, guided sightseeing, authentic meals), plus some pretty amazing extras.

New trips and experiences in 2024

Intrepid Travel , a world leader in responsible travel, is launching its 2024 trip range, debuting over 100 new itineraries. The new trips represent a shifting focus to simple and meaningful travel, redefining beloved destinations with more local connection and lifechanging experiences. 

The  100 new itineraries for 2024  share four key through lines. The first is low-carbon design, where Intrepid has worked to decarbonize its itineraries, with approximately 4,000 fewer flights included on 2024 departures. The second is family connection. Intrepid’s family range saw its record year of sales for 2023, finally marking the return of international family trips post-pandemic. Third, a shift to shoulder and offseason travel, where Intrepid has expanded its European winter offerings. Finally, is active tours, which will see the addition of 7 new trekking itineraries and multi-active adventures in 2024.   

Highlights of the range include: 

1.) Low Carbon Design:  

10-Day Real Borneo  (NEW TRIP from $1580 AUD)  

This newly imagined low-carbon itinerary takes travelers from rainforests to mountains by van, exploring the scenic island of Borneo in Malaysia. The trip stretches the Sabah region, discovering its wide range of endemic species including orangutangs, elephants, foxes and bears, with sea-snorkeling, trekking and stays in bamboo huts, guesthouses and jungle lodges along the way. The tour also includes a visit to the untouched oasis of Pandan Pandan island, home to a variety of coral reefs and marine life.  

2.) Return of Family Travel:  

14-Day Best of Costa Rica Family Holiday  (from $4675 AUD) 

Intrepid has developed several new trips to celebrate the return of family travel. Most famous for its lush environment, travelers can explore Costa Rica’s Tortuguero National Park and stay in a unique lodge under its famous Arenal volcano. Then, experience the culture of some of the country’s lesser-known areas, from a cooking class to a visit with the Indigenous Terraba people, the new trip is designed to create a well-balanced getaway for long-lasting family memories.

An experienced tour operator can elevate a trip from “great” to “unforgettable.” So it stands to reason that many of the votes in Travel + Leisure ’s World’s Best Awards came from repeat customers — readers who know not to let go of a good thing. And though there are a few generalist luxury travel companies on this year’s list, many have a specific niche, from walking tours to regional expertise.

Every year for our World's Best Awards survey, T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe — to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. Over 186,000 T+L readers completed the 2024 survey. A total of more than 700,000 votes were cast across over 8,700 properties (hotels, cities, cruise lines, etc.).

Tour operators and safari outfitters were specifically rated on the criteria below:

• Itineraries/destinations
• Accommodations

For each characteristic, respondents could choose a rating of excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The final scores are averages of these responses.

Many of the top-rated tour operators this year are specialists of some description, such as bicycle-focused DuVine Cycling + Adventure Co. (No. 3) or Classic Journeys (No. 11), which focuses on walking tours.

Quasar Expeditions (No. 2) operates boutique Galápagos cruises and Patagonia trips. A repeat customer highlighted their dedicated regional expertise: “Their incredible local hires brought enriching cultural experiences to each journey.”

Another company with a niche, AdventureWomen (No. 5) offers small group tours for women. “I continue to work with them again and again,” one voter wrote. “I really enjoy my fellow travelers, small groups (only 14 people), and interesting places with a focus on culture and activities through a woman’s perspective.”

Timbuktu Travel

A new entry to the World’s Best Awards, Timbuktu Travel (No. 1) is based in Cape Town, South Africa, and coordinates trips throughout Africa, South America, Asia, and Antarctica. T+L readers particularly appreciated the company’s website, which allows users to create a custom trip (including hotels, activities, and transfers) with an estimated price. For readers, the cost transparency was a “very rare” perk for a luxury travel company. And, with so many repeat customers, it seems the vacation experience matches the planning process. “I have been on four safaris with Timbuktu and about to leave on my fifth. Their care and organization is exceptional,” said one reader.

Sydney wins big as the local 2024 World Travel Awards are revealed

A host of Aussie winners have been announced during the 2024 World Travel Awards ceremony for Oceania held in Manila overnight.

The awards recognise the best of the best across hotels , airlines , tourist attractions, cities, tour operators and more, across the region.

Qantas was recognised as Oceania's Leading Airline Brand in 2024, while Sydney Airport took the crown for Oceania's Leading Airport.

Sydney also won the title of Oceania's Leading City Destination for 2024, with a host of incredible hotels in the city also recognised, including The Langham Sydney, which won Best Hotel.

If you're planning to splurge on an airline lounge membership, look to the Pacific Islands. Fiji Airways Premier Lounge at Nadi International Airport has been honoured as Oceania's Leading Airline Lounge.

"Our lounge is not just a place to wait for a flight; it's a space where the journey begins, offering a true taste of Fijian hospitality that we are so proud of," said Fiji Airways Managing Director and CEO, Andre Viljoen.

The airline's inflight magazine, FijiTime, was named Leading Inflight Magazine at the awards as well.

If cruising is your preferred style of holiday, the title of Oceania's Leading Cruise Line for 2024 went to Royal Caribbean.

Overseas, there were similar ceremonies held for other regions across the globe. Miami Beach won the coveted honour of 'North America's Leading City Destination'.

Peru was voted 'South America's Leading Destination', while its foodie scene was also recognised as the continent's leading culinary destination.

In Europe, Greece was named the best destination, while Portugal's archipelago of Madeira was named the best island destination.

The Peninsula London was acknowledged as 'Europe's Leading New Hotel'. Berlin's Deutschlandmuseum – an immersive journey through 2,000 years of German history – was voted 'Europe's Leading New Tourist Attraction'.

The winners of all of WTA's regional programs will then progress to the Grand Final in Madeira (Portugal) at the end of the year, when the winners of the prestigious "World's Leading" categories will be unveiled.

WTA was established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the tourism industry.

“The people who work in the Fairy Pools car park have said visitors say it’s like a war zone driving there,” Gordon Pearson, who runs the tour company WOW Scotland, told South West News Service. “It’s absolutely horrendous, and I don’t think there’s enough attention to how bad the road really is.”

Located in Glen Brittle on the Isle of Skye, the attraction comprises a series of picturesque pools and waterfalls that look as if they’ve come straight out of a “Lord of the Rings” movie.

While the sapphire oasis was once a hidden gem, traffic has increased dramatically over the past decade, according to local sources, with congestion allegedly exacerbated by poor infrastructure.

Over the past few weeks, traveling there has become “total chaos” with as many as 400 vehicles stuck on the road, per Pearson.

While just 200,000 tourists visit the locale each year, the one-lane road out of Glen Brittle is poorly maintained, leading to scads of flat tires and to hourslong traffic jams like something out of a disaster thriller, reported SWNS.

“Some people can get stuck for about four hours just on that road,” lamented Pearson, who regularly has to jump out and help facilitate traffic.

Conditions at the now-literal tourist trap have been exacerbated by wet weather of late.

That has caused vehicles to get stranded on the shoulders, where rescue vehicles can’t reach them due to the bottlenecks.

“If one of my customers needed emergency help, there’s no way of getting help to them quickly,” said Pearson.

Conditions have gotten so “dangerous” that the guide is contemplating taking the resplendent mecca off his tour.

“We’ve always done Skye, since 2012,” he said. “It’s our unique selling point, and we always want people to get the most out of the place, but we can’t do that with the current situation.

“We might pull out of doing the Fairy Pools on our route, and maybe Skye altogether,” he added.

There’s a bureaucratic bottleneck as well.

The Outdoor Access Trust for Scotland charity, which set up a car park six years ago to relieve congestion along the route, has been blamed for the traffic by the local council.

OATS has also been told to cough up the money to repair the hazardous access road — something it cannot do by law, according to a rep for the organization.

“Council officers are working on potential visitor management solutions and exploring funding streams to help alleviate some of these pressures which are currently being experienced in the Skye area,” the Highland Council spokesperson said.

MLB's travel plans for '24: Seoul, Mexico City, London, D.R.

The MLB World Tour is coming to four international destinations in 2024: London, Mexico City, Seoul and Santo Domingo. 

The Seoul Series will be the opener of the 2024 MLB regular season -- and will mark the first MLB regular-season games ever played in Korea. 

Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association announced the full plans for the four series on Wednesday.

• Seoul Series: Dodgers vs. Padres, March 20-21 (MLB season opener) • Mexico City Series: Astros vs. Rockies, April 27-28 • London Series: Mets vs. Phillies, June 8-9 • Dominican Republic Series: Red Sox vs. Rays, March 9-10 (Spring Training)

• MLB international

"Major League Baseball is incredibly excited for this extensive slate of international games in 2024," Commissioner Rob Manfred said. "Our recent efforts have produced strong enthusiasm around the globe, and we look forward to building on that foundation with returns to Mexico City and London, while also opening the season in Korea for the first time. In addition, we can’t wait to celebrate the tradition of the sport in the Dominican Republic with our visit to Santo Domingo next March. We are thrilled that our fans across four different countries outside the United States and Canada will have the opportunity to see the game’s stars."

The MLB World Tour schedule for next year includes the return of games to the United Kingdom and Mexico for a second consecutive season, after the 2023 London Series between the Cubs and Cardinals and Mexico City Series between the Giants and Padres, in addition to new stops in Korea and the Dominican Republic.

“Players have a deep interest in growing baseball around the world. No matter where they come from, players are linked by a passion for our game that transcends different languages, cultures, and nationalities,” said Tony Clark, the executive director of the MLB Players Association. “The series announced today will allow fans around the globe to gain a first-hand appreciation for the unmatched skill and infectious enthusiasm players display every time they go to work. We are excited to expand our international presence in new communities and celebrate the game we all love.”

Here's a look at each of the four international series in 2024.

Seoul Series

The Dodgers and Padres will open up the 2024 season with two games in Korea from March 20-21.  

The Seoul Series will mark the ninth time that the MLB season has opened outside the 50 U.S. states and Canada, and the first time in five years. Previous international openers include:

• 1999 -- Monterrey, Mexico (Rockies vs. Padres) • 2000 -- Tokyo, Japan (Mets vs. Cubs) • 2001 -- San Juan, Puerto Rico (Rangers vs. Blue Jays) • 2004 -- Tokyo, Japan (Rays vs. Yankees) • 2008 -- Tokyo, Japan (Red Sox vs. A's) • 2012 -- Tokyo, Japan (A's vs. Mariners) • 2014 -- Sydney, Australia (Dodgers vs. D-backs) • 2019 -- Tokyo, Japan (A's vs. Mariners)

It will be the Dodgers' first international games since they played the Padres in Mexico in 2018, and their second Opening Day abroad after the 2014 season opener in Australia.

"The Dodgers have a long and proud history of helping to grow the game abroad, highlighted by our trips to Mexico, China and Australia. It's very exciting to add Korea to the list," Dodgers president Stan Kasten said. "I know our players are thrilled to put their talents on display in a country so rich with baseball tradition and talent, including former Dodgers Chan Ho Park, Hee-Seop Choi and Hyun Jin Ryu."

The Padres will be playing internationally for a second straight season, but in a new country, going from the 2023 Mexico City Series to the 2024 Seoul Series. Like the Dodgers, they've also played abroad on Opening Day before, in the inaugural international season opener back in 1999. 

"Korea is a great baseball country with a rich tradition, passionate fans, and talented players, including current Padre and San Diego fan favorite Ha-Seong Kim," Padres CEO Erik Greupner said. "The Padres are proud to serve alongside the Dodgers as global ambassadors for the game of baseball with our historic 2024 Korea Series."

Mexico City Series

The second Mexico City Series will feature the Astros and Rockies for a pair of games on April 27 and 28, almost exactly a year after this season's inaugural Mexico City Series.

Both Houston and Colorado last played internationally in Mexico, but in Monterrey, not Mexico City. The Astros played two regular-season games against the Angels there in 2019, and the Rockies played an exhibition series against the D-backs that same year.  

The Astros have played exhibition games in Mexico City before, in 2016 against the Padres and 2004 against the Marlins.

London Series

The London Series returns for its third edition overall, with the Mets and Phillies facing off at London Stadium on June 8 and 9.

The Mets will be playing abroad for the first time since 2010, when they faced the Marlins in Puerto Rico. But they're no stranger to international games, having participated in both MLB's first-ever international regular season games in 1996 in Mexico and MLB's first-ever regular-season games in Japan in 2000.

"Interest in baseball is growing all over the world, and to bring the Mets' 'never-say-die' attitude to sports fans in London is a tremendous honor," Mets owner Steve Cohen said. "Our Queens family is ready to show London a great time with exciting baseball and amazing experiences that create new fans and build the Mets community throughout the United Kingdom." 

The Phillies have never played regular-season games internationally, and have left the U.S. and Canada only once, over 50 years ago, for a pair of exhibition games against the Pirates in San Juan in 1977.

"Major League Baseball has done an excellent job of expanding its footprint internationally, and we are honored to play a role in that effort as part of the 2024 London Series," Phillies managing partner John Middleton said. "This will be a wonderful opportunity to showcase our players' talents and highlight the excitement that comes with a Phillies-Mets matchup for our fans in the UK and for those who have never attended a baseball game."

Dominican Republic Series

In addition to the three international regular-season series planned for in 2024, the Red Sox and Rays will play a Spring Training series in Santo Domingo at Estadio Quisqueya from March 9-10.

"This unique opportunity builds on our long-standing connection to the Dominican Republic and allows us to celebrate the remarkable talents and rich cultural heritage of a country whose passion for the game has distinctly shaped our organization," Red Sox president Sam Kennedy said. "From the players who have passed through our Dominican Republic Academy to those who have helped us win championships, we have been fortunate to witness the profound impact of Dominican players within our game, and we are thrilled to be able to bring Red Sox baseball to such a vibrant baseball community next year."

Exhibition games are also a key part of the MLB World Tour, which includes up to 16 exhibition games being played internationally between 2023 and ‘26, as well as up to 24 regular-season games spanning Asia, Europe and Latin America.
