As expected, Beyoncé has announced a 2023 world tour on Instagram, supporting her multiple-Grammy-nominated 2022 album, “Renaissance.” She also released the dates and cities on her official website.

The timing of the announcement, which comes just days before the Grammy Awards on Sunday, sparks speculation that the singer may perform or at least appear on the show. Beyoncé is the most nominated artist for the awards with nine, all related to “ Renaissance .” Sources tell Variety that her husband Jay-Z will perform with DJ Khaled on the show, most likely their nominated song “God Did.”

Beyoncé has said that “Renaissance” is a three-part project, so it’s possible that the next parts could be another album, a long-form video project or even the tour itself.

Beyoncé’s last full tour was the nearly six-month, 49-date “Formation” tour in 2016, which unusually featured no guest appearances until the final show, at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, where she brought out Kendrick Lamar and Jay-Z.

She did, however, stage an epochal “Homecoming” headlining performance at the 2018 Coachella festival — which was postponed from 2017 due to the birth of her and Jay’s twins — for which she was accompanied by a full marching band in a nod to historically Black colleges and universities. That blockbuster performance was later released as the “Homecoming” album and — via a three-project deal with Netflix that sources tell Variety is worth $60 million — a feature-length documentary. It seems possible that a future “Renaissance” video project could be part of that deal as well.

On Her Renaissance Tour, the World Is Beyoncé’s Ball

The pop superstar’s first solo outing in seven years draws on the dance-music cultures that inspired her 2022 album, and her work that led up to that ecstatic release.

Reporting from Toronto

It was a crowd that had come to dance, dressed for a rodeo in the distant future: sparkling cowboy hats, silvery fringe, outré sunglasses and any other sartorial detail that represented “Renaissance,” Beyoncé’s dazzling seventh album and the occasion for her first solo tour in seven years. But as the imperial pop superstar took the stage at the Rogers Center in Toronto on Saturday night for the first North American show of her Renaissance World Tour, she reminded the club-ready audience just who was in charge. Because if they were prepared to move, she was going to make them wait a little longer.

Setting the table for a two-and-a-half-hour performance that was visually spectacular, vocally ambitious and sometimes tonally confused, Beyoncé, 41 — clad in a glimmering chain-mail mini dress — began the show with a nearly 30-minute stretch of ballads and deep cuts that harked back to her past: an acrobatically sung solo rendition of the 2001 Destiny’s Child track “Dangerously in Love,” a bit of “Flaws and All” from the deluxe edition of her 2007 album “B’Day,” and the sparse, soulful “1+1” from 2011, which she belted atop a mirrored piano.

It was a both a display of her vocal agility and a curiously traditional way to start a show centered around an album as conceptually bold and forward-thinking as “Renaissance” — a sprawling, knowingly referential romp through the history of dance music , with an emphasis on the contributions of Black and queer innovators. Here, instead, was a stopover in Beyoncé’s Middle Ages.

As a live entertainer, though, she has earned a fresh start. The Renaissance World Tour shows are some of Beyoncé’s first appearances since her dazzling, commanding performance headlining the 2018 Coachella festival (later released as the concert film and live album “Homecoming”), which served as a kind of mic-drop capstone to her career thus far. It would be futile to repeat that, and difficult to top it. The loose, fluid “Renaissance,” still said to be the first part of a trilogy , represents a new chapter in Beyoncé’s recorded oeuvre. And once the show finally found its center and, however belatedly, welcomed the crowd to the Renaissance, it heralded her maturity as a performer, too.

The show’s look — as projected in diamond-sharp definition onto a panoramic screen — conjured Fritz Lang’s “ Metropolis ” by way of the 1990 drag ball documentary “Paris Is Burning.” After a lengthy video introduction, Beyoncé emerged from a chrome cocoon and vamped through a thrilling stretch of the first suite of “Renaissance” songs; during “Cozy,” most strikingly, a pair of hydraulic robotic arms centered her body in industrial picture frames, like a post-human Mona Lisa.

In May, when Beyoncé began the European leg of the Renaissance World Tour, rumors swirled that she may have been recovering from a foot injury, since her choreography was a bit more static and less stomp-heavy than usual. The Toronto show did nothing to dispel that chatter, but it also showed that it doesn’t matter much. Perhaps because of some constraints, Beyoncé has embraced new means of bodily expression. She brought the flavor of ball movements into the show and served face all night, curling her lip like a hungry predator, widening her eyes in mock surprise, scrunching her features in exaggerated disgust.

Few seats in the stadium provided a legible view of Beyoncé’s face, of course, though the screen took care of that. She played expertly to the cameras that followed her every choreographed move, aware of how she’d appear to the majority of the audience and — perhaps just as crucially — in FOMO-inducing social media videos. The stage itself was breathtaking, featuring an arced cutout section of the screen that made for playful visuals, but its full grandeur was not visible from many of the side seats, making the band and sometimes the dancers difficult to see.

The screen, though, was the point. Beyoncé’s two solo releases before “Renaissance” — her 2013 self-titled album and “Lemonade,” from 2016 — were billed as “visual albums,” featuring a fully realized music video for each track. Again toying with her fans’ anticipation, she has still not released any videos from “Renaissance,” giving the previously unseen graphics that filled her expansive backdrop an added impact, and making them feel more weighty than a convenient way to pass time between costume changes.

Many of the tour’s outfits struck a balance between Beyoncé’s signature styles — megawatt sparkles, high-cut bodysuits — and the futuristic bent of “Renaissance.” She played haute couture bee in custom Mugler by Casey Cadwallader and glimmered in a Gucci corset draped with crystals. But the night’s most memorable look — so instantly iconic that a few fans had already tried to replicate it, from photos of the European shows — was a flesh-tone catsuit by the Spanish label Loewe, embellished with a few suggestively placed, red-fingernailed hands.

Throughout the set, Beyoncé wove interpolations of her predecessors’ songs throughout her own, as if to place her music in a larger continuum. The grandiose “I Care” segued into a bit of “River Deep, Mountain High,” in honor of Tina Turner, who died in May . The cheery throwback “Love on Top” contained elements of the Jackson 5’s “Want You Back.” Most effective was the “Queens Remix” she performed of “Break My Soul,” which mashes up the “Renaissance” leadoff single with Madonna’s “Vogue,” paying homage to the mainstream pop star who brought queer ball culture to the masses before her. (The merch on sale at a Renaissance Tour pop-up shop in the days before the show included a hand-held fan emblazoned with the song title “Heated” for $40. It sold out.)

The show contained moments that sometimes felt conceptually cluttered and at odds with the “Renaissance” album’s sharp vision, like dorm-room-poster quotes from Albert Einstein and Jim Morrison that filled the screen during video montages. The middle stretch, arriving with a lively “Formation,” featured Beyoncé and her dancers clad in camo print, riding and occasionally writhing atop a prop military vehicle. There was a wordless, gestural power in the moment she and her entourage held their fists in the air, referencing a salute that had rankled some easily rankle-able viewers of the 2016 Super Bowl Halftime Show. But if Beyoncé was calling for any more specific forms of protest or political awareness — especially in a moment when drag culture and queer expression are being threatened at home and throughout the world — those went unarticulated.

Beyoncé’s endurance as a world-class performer remained the show’s raison d’être; she is the rare major pop star who prizes live vocal prowess. By the end of the long night — and especially during the striking closing number, the disco reverie “Summer Renaissance,” when she floated above the crowd like a deity on a glittering horse — she extended the microphone to lend out some of the high notes to her eager and adoring fans. “Until next time,” she said, keeping the stage banter relatively minimal and pat. “Drive home safe!”

Even when Beyoncé embraces styles and cultures known for their improvisational looseness, she still seems to be striving toward perfection — a pageant smile always threatens to break through the stank face. Commanding a stadium-sized audience, she was an introvert wearing an extrovert’s armor. That tension is part of both her boundless charm and her occasional limitations as a performer. And it makes moments of genuine spontaneity all the more prized.

Naturally, #RenaissanceWorldTour was trending on Twitter long after the show, but one of the clips that went viral was unplanned. During a rousing performance of her early hit “Diva,” Beyoncé accidentally dropped her sunglasses. She fumbled them for a second, mouthed an expletive as they fell to the ground, and gave a sincere, shrugging grin before snapping back into the choreography’s formation. For a fleeting moment, she seemed human after all.

Regarding Beyoncé, Mother of the House of Renaissance

By Julianne Escobedo Shepherd

Beyonc performs onstage

When Renaissance dropped last summer, it was perfect timing. The masses were ready to shake off that last bit of ennui wrought by pandemic isolation, and Beyoncé exhorted us to celebrate that we were alive en masse, and to do so in the face of all that was scary: crowds, evil bosses, legislators, haters, the Supreme Court. “ Break My Soul ,” the single indebted to ’90s vocal house, was a jubilant, defiant protest. Its arrival on June 20, 2022, just four days before SCOTUS overturned Roe v. Wade , meant that it soundtracked furious pro-choice rallies across the country. It also lent itself to a larger landscape: a perfect lip-sync song in the era of state-level drag bans, a song of strength devoted to Black women and LGBTQ people in the ongoing fight for justice.

Millions of people have been enthralled by Beyoncé’s live imagination of Renaissance since it hit the road this May in Stockholm. When I saw her perform for a crowd of 82,000 at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium this summer, it was impossible not to think of this timing. Her vehement demand for joy as an intervention was on full display, on giant glittering screens projecting her every expression and accessory. The pan-African flag gleamed across the masses as she sang “Black Parade” from atop a silver tank, her eleven-year-old daughter Blue Ivy raising a Black Power fist at her flank. The sound of ballroom artist Kevin JZ Prodigy commentated “cunt to the feminine what, ow” in staccato cracks as she hand-twirled into the quiet ferocity of “Cozy.” The rejuvenating tribute to her idol, the icon and queen of rock Tina Turner, with a transcendent rendition of “River Deep, Mountain High.” The retrofitting of the famous Italian painting The Birth of Venus , in which she emerged like a pearl on the half shell via Flora Purim singing “Plastic Off the Sofa.” The visibility she gave her inclusive, euphoric array of dancers and performers, including those who were nonbinary, transgender, plus-size, and, in the case of one trumpeter in her famous all-woman band, pregnant. The space she gave voguers from the ballroom scene, including Darius Hickman , Carlos Basquiat , and Honey Balenciaga , to express the beauty of their art.

That concert was one day after one of her fans, a 28-year-old Black dancer named O’Shae Sibley , was murdered in a racist and homophobic hate crime at a gas station in Brooklyn, simply for voguing to Renaissance . (The chant that followed at a memorial in Los Angeles, one of several across the country, went: “O-O-O-Shae. He was voguing to Beyoncé.”) Balenciaga took time off to join mourners in Brooklyn, and Beyoncé paid her respects . O’Shae Sibley’s death underscored the importance of her speaking directly to her queer fans, using her massive power as a place for others to reflect themselves back and, one hopes, teach everyone else respect and tolerance. The devil is working hard , but Beyoncé works harder.

And in a disquieting climate in which a young Black man can be targeted simply for expressing his joy, it’s a massive relief to experience something that feels like an unencumbered blast of good, even amidst the very real fact that inclusion and catharsis is not protection . In that way, Renaissance has been the year’s defining, galvanizing cultural event, a release in which the catharsis of the club has been replicated on a massive scale. Fashion alone has been altered irrevocably: Beyoncé’s custom looks for each concert are chronicled in all their intricate splendor on her Instagram , and her label Parkwood has been posting the fans in kind, showcasing their gorgeous outfit photos from each tour stop. (In late August, Beyoncé requested attendees “wear your most fabulous silver fashions” in honor of her birthday and Virgo season.)

Beyonc surrounded by dancers onstage

The way attendees have been showing out reflects their widespread intent to be active participants in one of the most inclusive pop tours ever staged. They’ve spent massive amounts of money to travel overseas for early stops of the tour, to buy outfits that represent both the flashiest church and sophisticated club afters, and to be a member of the Renaissance. I saw these things span across age, race, gender identity, sexual orientation, even class differences, as evidenced by the high-low range of the style and ingenious amount of DIY fashion. While the active, enthusiastic participation has been delicious for fans to watch online, it felt even better to be cocooned in it in person—throngs of showgoers clad in glimmering sequins, silvery cowboy boots, iridescent hats, and LED accessories, taking a cue from the Renaissance cover art and Beyoncé's equine partner, the mirrorball-clad Reneigh. (Everyone, it seems, is a horse girl now.) Fans have been instrumental in the actualization of the tour and the crucial key to its ambience and sense of communal activity. When I was there, even the security was hype. In my row in the stands, an exceedingly jovial guard—over-50 and white, with a Jersey accent—took outfit photos for showgoers with their phones. When he saw my friend and I laughing happily at his enthusiasm, he admitted with a grin, “I turn into a bad bitch for Mrs. Carter!”

That fandom and connection goes beyond the camaraderie and aesthetics of such a show. In the realm of performance, there is simply no one better than Beyoncé, who is living proof that women don’t wither and die in middle age, they flourish. For the duration of her career, she has delivered pristine vocals alongside punishing athleticism, all while holding her facial expressions at exactly the correct angle and leading a gargantuan stage with tens of dancers and musicians. It’s the level of greatness that solicits respect from the greats themselves. On the Renaissance tour stop that fell on her birthday in September, Diana Ross—79 and still going strong—came onstage to support Beyoncé, leading a muva-to-muva singalong of “Happy Birthday” that ended with a heartfelt hug. “I’m thankful for every flaw, every stretch mark, every FUPA… I’m thankful that I’m here, at fuckin’ 42,” Beyoncé said before the going into the song “Flaws and All.” She held court in a black lace gown custom-made by Dolce & Gabbana, looking every bit the regal diva, making a promise that she’s nowhere near half-done. There is strength in seeing adult women command such massive audiences, and a reminder that our own wrinkles, or stretch marks, or crow’s feet don’t define us, but rather showcase our experiences and wisdom.

article image

Beyoncé opens the Renaissance shows with a run of four ballads, including a majestically felt rendition of “Dangerously in Love” and Mary J. Blige’s “I’m Goin’ Down”—itself a cover of ’70s soul group Rose Royce—that grounds her as a brolic purveyor of blues. Through the rhythmic three hours that follow, she interpolates—live remixes, really—her own discography into itself as well as intergenerational cuts from other artists (“Love on Top” with the Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back,” to cite one ). Three-quarters of the way through the concert, she performs her transcendent cover of Frankie Beverly and Maze’s “Before I Let Go,” a nod to her Homecoming album and another link from her own music to Black pop hits past. She improvised deep cuts, too: upon seeing Tia Mowry in the Los Angeles crowd, she interpolated a bit of “ Yeah, Yeah, Yeah ,” a song Mowry released with her girl group Voices in 1992, when Bey was a tween. Throughout, she deploys the sorts of extravagance and camp that ballroom values, Mothering outlandishly through her “Heated” commentating , inspiring Beyoncslay memes across social media, and making an interactive game out of which city shushes most thoroughly when she sings “look around, everybody on mute” in “Energy.” (Houston seems to have won.)

No one else at this level possesses the same combination of historical gravitas and trenchant work ethic, or uses their platform to link their work to the roots of American Black music and beyond. Take, for instance, the segment in the Renaissance tour when she uses a costume change break to edify the audience about the history of house, with videos about its importance set to soundtracks like “ Percolator ” and “ Hot Music ,” the unofficial theme songs of New York City block parties for three decades. She not only grounds Renaissance in a long lineage, she reminds audiences that house music is Black music, and important to understanding its presence. To that end, she has enlisted a slate of young, queer, Black, and regional DJs to provide opening music—and vibes—for Club Renaissance, including Arca, Ariel Zetina, Mike Q, and Uniiqu3, both cosigning them and giving them the rare opportunity of playing music for stadiums. She’s also blessed regional stars at certain chosen stops—Kendrick in L.A., Megan Thee Stallion performing the “Savage Remix” for the first time ever in Houston, and a solid rumor that Big Freedia will join her on “Break My Soul” for her stop in New Orleans this week.

Beyonc hoisted in the air

It’s hard to think of a massive pop tour that speaks so clearly and perfectly to its sociopolitical moment as the Renaissance tour. Beychella , to be sure, Beyoncé's 2018 culture-shifter devoted to Black feminism, HBCUs, and the nuances of various Black artforms. Before that, perhaps Madonna's 1990 Blond Ambition tour, when she performed “Vogue” in an earlier era of heightened homophobia and transphobia, flaunting her sexuality and power in a time when silence equaled death . As it happened, Madonna was in the audience in New Jersey , witnessing Beyoncé perform her Black woman-elevating remix of “Vogue,” as a sort of passing of the torch between Queens of Pop.

Maybe some of that freedom was simply Beyoncé living her house diva dreams, a significant statement in itself. So many pop house divas of the past were erased from the popular record of the time, a record that is only beginning to be corrected . The iconic Martha Wash, of the Weather Girls, spent the fatphobic ’80s and ’90s suing for her own credits , after being replaced with younger and thinner women lip-syncing her vocals in the videos for Black Box’s “Everybody Everybody” and C+C Music Factory's “Gonna Make You Sweat.” Those lawsuits were perhaps the best known, but similar stories of erasure have played out with Loleatta Holloway , Jocelyn Brown , Kelli-Leigh , and more, where Black women vocalists transformed scores of songs into indelible classics, but are viewed by their male producers and record labels as throwaway, mere clips to sample, or tertiary to the real genius.

Beyoncé placing herself in front of this history won’t right those wrongs, and it is easy to ascribe dreams and aspirations onto her. As with many pop stars, her moves don’t always square with the values she performs . But she does have the cultural power to reorient the narrative even just a little, whether centering house divas or paying homage to LGBTQ Black and Latine ballroom originators. (Plus vocalists are infinitely more interesting to watch than DJs, particularly in a climate when staring has supplanted dancing.) It is not uncommon to get hyperbolic about Beyoncé. She has, like many pop stars, been deified to the point of Veladoras hawked by candle companies, her beatific visage and unfailingly sick fits replacing the benevolent gaze and gently draped robe of La Virgen. During her tour she assumed the role of the conduit and protector; she is the “Mother of the House of Renaissance ,” as a voice-over goes in the tour as she fans herself in the style of the ball. A house mother is the keeper of her children, and her children are genuflected. But the Renaissance tour’s most important act was bringing Beyoncé’s fans together in massive numbers, creating a space in which joy can build and attendees can experience sweet release. That’s what dance music, at its beating heart, is about.

Beyoncé's Renaissance Tour Is Her Greatest Achievement

It's an athletic feat, a work of art, and even a pseudo-communion. Even with another mega-tour sweeping the world this year, we've never seen anything like it—and may never again.

That's me. I was introduced to Beyoncé at six years old, shortly after the release of her debut album , Dangerously in Love . I still remember holding the CD from my car seat, marveling at a mysterious woman in a glittery top, whose heavenly vocals boomed through our stereo. Twenty years later, Beyoncé is still a mystery to me—maybe even more so, following most recent album, 2022's Renaissance . At 41 years old, Beyoncé has three children and seven albums under her belt, but she can still sing like there’s an angel trapped in her throat. (She hasn’t let go of the sparkly outfits either.)

As Beyoncé finishes her speech, 80,000 fans erupt in a thunderous cheer. The floor shakes. Glitter floats through the air. Looking at the jumbotron, I swear there's tear in her eye. Beyoncé beams back at the audience, and everyone roars again. She doesn’t have to say much else. We get it. Beyoncé is a legend. Now, it's simply time to celebrate Renaissance .

The Renaissance Tour kicked off on May 10 in Stockholm, Sweden. From there, Beyoncé and co. traveled across Europe before making it to North America. By the time Beyoncé reached New Jersey, clips from her previous shows leaked online. Even a glimpse at the silver-hued concert hinted that the Renaissance Tour may stand as Beyoncé’s best work yet—and her most popular show ever.

Forbes predicts that the Renaissance Tour could earn around $2.1 billion by the time it wraps in September. If Beyoncé pulls it off, that will make her the highest-grossing female act of all time. That title currently belongs to Madonna, who—in July 2022—had earned $1.4 billion from her shows. Taylor Swift is next in line with a projected $1.9 billion in sales from her currently-running Eras Tour. According to Billboard , Beyoncé is well on her way to nabbing the top spot, earning more than $154 million from her European tour dates alone.

beyoncé renaissance world tour amsterdam

Like everyone else in the crowd, I attended the Renaissance Tour as a fan. But I was a fan on a nearly 20-year-long mission. We all know Beyoncé is Beyoncé (you don’t earn $154 million on a whim), but I wondered what I'd learn from seeing her live—dancing and singing along with her, plus, of course, mingling with the Beyhive.

One of the first people I run into is Zahir, who is proudly donning a sequined top. I simply ask why he loves Beyoncé. He says, “Her Blackness. She’s so in tune with her womanhood and voice.” The next person I talk to is Rickey Mile, a self-proclaimed superfan. He gives a dumbfounded look, as if any questions about Beyoncé's greatness go without asking. “She’s timeless,” he explains. According to Mile, it doesn’t matter when you see Beyoncé, what’s going on in her personal life, or which era of her career she’s in—the woman always puts on a good show.

After seeing the Renaissance Tour, I have to agree. The concert (and the album) is a homage to Beyoncé’s uncle, Johnny—a gay man who introduced her to house music. To say Renaissance would make him proud is an understatement. It’s one giant, queer party, filled with references to drag icons Kevin Aviance and Moi Renee, along with a cameo from viral ballroom dancer Honey Balenciaga. The stadium shook for three straight hours , with fans bouncing and rocking along to each song.

I continued to cry for the rest of the show.

Given Beyoncé’s expansive catalog, there is a smattering of oldies woven throughout the show. But don’t be fooled. This isn't anything like Swift's Eras Tour. Instead of selecting songs chronologically, Beyoncé presents a mix of her favorite hits. The show opens with a powerful rendition of “Dangerously in Love,” which bleeds into the yearning ballad “1+1.” Then, just when you’re ready to profess your love to someone in the crowd, Beyoncé switches gears, performing the self-assured Renaissance track, “I’m That Girl.” The whole thing exudes rich aunt energy. Pure fun. No rules. And the atmosphere? Well, it’s like a reunion. After all, the last time the Beyhive convened was during 2016's Formation Tour.

You know that moment at a family party, when you see someone you don’t recognize, but feel an intrinsic connection to? That’s what attending Renaissance is like. Everyone is a stranger, yet also a cousin. I suppose that makes Beyoncé our matriarch. Just ask the troves of fans yelling “Mother!” during her set.

Perhaps that maternal energy stems from Beyoncé’s dedication to lifting others up. Along with the references to the aforementioned queer icons, Beyoncé uses Renaissance to celebrate Black women. During the show, she sings, “Break My Soul (The Queen's Version), featuring Madonna. The remix praises every Black performer who inspired them: Bessie Smith, Lauryn Hill, and Nina Simone, among many others. Later on, Beyoncé brings her daughter, Blue Ivy, on stage to celebrate their heritage, with the songs “My Power” and “Black Parade.” The Renaissance Tour feels like one giant love letter to Beyoncé's community—and because of that, every moment has a purpose.

Though the Renaissance Tour is art, and even a pseudo-communion, it's also an athletic feat. Any time you think Beyoncé has reached her peak, she surprises you with something else. At one point, she’s singing riffs you’ve never heard. In the next moment, she’s dancing in stilettos. If you look away for a second, you'll miss a surprise costume change or an exciting set design. It’s magic.

After the concert, I see a teenage girl dab her eyes with her sleeve. “‘Formation’ broke me for some reason,” she tells her friend. “I continued to cry for the rest of the show.”

Those who weren’t crying in the presence of Queen Bey were screaming instead. Case in point: “Energy.” The thumping club track arrives midway through the show. When she sings, "Look around everybody on mute," the crowd is told to shush for dramatic effect. It would have been cool, but everyone was too busy singing to oblige. Beyoncé didn’t seem to mind. She just laughed and carried on. Legendary status aside, Beyoncé is a human being who can’t help but giggle when things go wrong.

On my way home, looking at my notes from the night, I found a few words from my conversation with a kind man named Herby. I met him earlier that night and complimented his outfit—a sparkly silver number that Beyoncé would surely approve of.

“Why do you love Beyoncé?” I asked.

“She represents the dichotomy of being a human person with limits, but she feels limitless,” he said. “That inspires me."

Where can you get tickets?

Tickets for the North American leg of the tour will be available through Ticketmaster's Verified Fan program. Tickets will go on sale Monday, Feb 6, with an exclusive presale to BeyHive members, according to a Live Nation press release.

Verified Fan registration is now open. Once you register, you'll be placed in a lottery system that determines which fans get invited to purchase tickets. Registration alone doesn't guarantee tickets. If you're selected, you'll get an access code the day before tickets go on sale. Everyone else will be placed on a waitlist. According to Live Nation, this process is intended to help Ticketmaster weed out the resellers and verify your account so that actual fans get priority to buy tickets.

Citi cardmembers will have a special Citi Presale after the Verified Fan process. Get more details here . Verizon will also offer an exclusive presale through their customer loyalty program Verizon Up .

Will Beyoncé be using Ticketmaster like Taylor Swift to sell tickets?

Yes, but given what happened with Taylor Swift's Eras tour (and the fact it led to Congressional hearings about Ticketmaster ’s practices), it seems very likely both Beyoncé and Ticketmaster would want to avoid repeating that mess. That most likely explains the usage of the Verified Fan system.

Where will Beyoncé be playing?

The Renaissance World Tour will hit 40 cities in North America and across Europe. Stops include Paris, London, Amsterdam, Toronto, Chicago, East Rutherford, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Houston, and many more.

What has Beyoncé said about the Renaissance World Tour?

She just announced it was happening with a post on February 1. Her website didn't immediately contain any more details. But during the Wearable Art Gala in October 2022, she appeared to confirm it would start this summer, as a backstage tour with her mother Tina Lawson was up for auction at the event.

Will Beyoncé be performing at the Grammys (on February 5) and sharing more tour details there?

Not clear yet, but she is the most nominated artist at the ceremony . On January 21, Variety reported that “ talks with show producers are ongoing for a possible onstage appearance ” by Beyoncé.

What can we expect from the tour on stage?

Beyoncé hasn't shared that yet either, but given the artistry she put into her recent Dubai show , it's fair to say we can expect no less than excellence, elaborate costumes, and an incredible experience.

This post will be updated the moment more detail is released.

B eyoncé played the final show of her career-defining Renaissance World Tour in Kansas City, Missouri on Sunday night. But for those who were not able to see the superstar’s dazzling, genre-spanning spectacle , there is still hope: Renaissance will soon be coming to theaters.

Throughout the tour, Beyoncé’s fans have been speculating over a possible concert film. After her final stop on the tour in Kansas City, Beyoncé announced her fans will be getting exactly that. Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé officially hits theaters nationwide on Dec. 1.

Beyoncé and her label Parkwood Entertainment uploaded the official trailer to Instagram following her final show on the tour, captioning the post, “Be careful what you ask for/ cause I just might comply,” lyrics from the song “All Up in Your Mind.”

The 42-year-old singer has long teased fans about providing visuals for Renaissance . Beyoncé's most recent studio albums— Lemonade and Beyoncé —were accompanied by music videos for each song, and when Renaissance dropped in July 2022, fans were expecting another visual album. Soon after, she released a teaser video for the song “I’m That Girl,” which at first seemed liked a music video, but actually cut off after two minutes. She also created official merch that said, “You are the visual, baby,” that was sold at her Houston show.

For music lovers, 2023 will be a year to remember, and a big reason for that is Beyonce’s upcoming Renaissance Tour. The upcoming Beyonce tour will be her first solo tour in a long time, which is why fans have been abuzz since the tour was officially announced. With that in mind, we wanted to share everything you need to know about Beyonce’s Renaissance Tour, including where the tour is going and how to get the best deals on tickets.

undefined

Beyonce going on tour has been a long time coming, at least now that she’s going on tour alone. She toured with her husband, Jay-Z, for the second time as a duo in 2018. But Beyonce hasn’t been on the road alone since The Formation World Tour in 2016. She last toured as a solo artist following her 2016 album Lemonade , so this tour has been nearly seven years in the making.

The New Album

about renaissance tour

Naturally, Beyonce’s upcoming Renaissance Tour comes on the heels of her Renaissance album, released in July 2022. It was her seventh album as a solo artist, and just like the others, it quickly shot to the top of the Billboard 200 charts. In doing so, Beyonce became the first female artist to have her first seven solo albums make it to the top of the charts. The album received nine nominations at this year’s Grammy, including for Album of the Year, winning Best Dance/Electronic Music Album.

Since it was her first solo album since 2016, Renaissance was a deeply personal record for Beyonce. On her website, Beyonce addressed fans about what the album meant to her, saying: “Creating this album allowed me a place to dream and to find escape during a scary time for the world. It allowed me to feel free and adventurous in a time when little else was moving. My intention was to create a safe place, a place without judgment. A place to be free of perfectionism and overthinking. A place to scream, release, feel freedom. It was a beautiful journey of exploration.”

Starting in Europe

The Renaissance Tour will kick off in Europe. The first two shows are on May 10 and 11 in Stockholm. The European leg of the tour will be highlighted by five shows in seven nights at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Beyonce’s European dates also include Brussels, Edinburgh, Barcelona, Amsterdam, and Warsaw, among several other European cities.

Coming to America

The Renaissance Tour will finally come to this side of the pond on July 8 with two shows at the Rogers Centre in Toronto. Throughout the rest of July, there will be stops in Philadelphia, Nashville, Chicago, and Detroit before closing the month at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. In August, Beyonce will head to Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Tampa, St. Louis, and Southern California. September begins with three shows in four nights at SoFi Stadium. The final leg of the Renaissance tour will include stops in Vancouver, Seattle, Kansas City, and Beyonce’s hometown of Houston, where she’ll play two shows at NRG Stadium. The tour concludes on September 27 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.

What’s on the Setlist?

about renaissance tour

Until the Renaissance Tour starts, the setlist is anybody’s guess. In January, Beyonce performed in Dubai, although she declined to perform any songs from Renaissance , creating some mystery as to the songs from her new albums that she likes the most and could include in her upcoming tour. That show featured a few covers and several songs that Beyonce has never performed live, as well as long-time classics like “Crazy in Love.” We also know that “Crazy in Love” is Beyonce’s most-performed song, followed by “Baby Boy” and “Naughty Girl.” It’d be a surprise if those songs weren’t featured on the Renaissance Tour. But since this will be her first tour in seven years, there’s no way of knowing for sure what songs will be on the setlist.

Who Is Opening for Beyonce?

Want to know who's going to share the stage with Queen Bey at her Renaissance World Tour? Well, as of now, there's no official announcement about the opening acts. However, the last time Beyoncé went on tour, she had DJ Khaled and Chloe X Halle as supporting acts, so it's safe to say that she knows how to choose top-tier talent. But, the rumor mill has been buzzing with possible contenders, and according to various sources, Bree Runway, FLO, or Tems might just make the cut. So, get ready to have your mind blown and your heartstrings pulled because whoever it is, they're going to be phenomenal!

Finding Tickets

Since it’s Beyonce's first tour in seven years, the demand for tickets to the Renaissance Tour has been unreal. Only a lucky few will be able to get their hands on tickets during the initial sale, making the secondary market the best place to find Beyonce concert tickets. Typically, fans should wait until the last few days before a concert to buy tickets because this is when tickets tend to drop in price. Fans should also keep their options open when it comes to tickets in different cities because some cities will have cheaper tickets than others. Also, cities that have multiple shows may have cheaper tickets on some nights. Ultimately, Beyonce will have more than 30 North American dates on the Renaissance Tour, so the key to finding the best ticket price will be keeping your options open as much as possible.

Beyoncé tour 2023 at MetLife Stadium: Will Jay-Z or Cardi B be musical guests?

3-minute read.

about renaissance tour

MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford is the place to Bey this weekend.

“I didn’t get a chance to see Michael Jackson ... I didn’t get a chance to see James Brown. I didn’t get a chance to see Tina Turner, but I got a chance to see Beyoncé tonight,” said R&B chanteuse Jill Scott after Beyoncé's July 23 show at Soldier Field in Chicago. “Oh my God y’all. Phenomenal is an understatement. That vocal ability, the charisma, the honesty, sincerity onstage. I don’t have the …. I’m touched.”

It's Beyoncé's Renaissance World Tour , and shows take place Saturday, July 29, and Sunday, July 30, at MetLife. The concert is about 2½ hours long, split into six segments with more than 30 songs. Bey's latest album, “Renaissance,” is performed, as well as tracks from throughout her career and a few choice covers — including “I'm Going Down” by Rose Royce and “Before I Let Go” by Maze featuring Frankie Beverly.

The covers are a nod to the musical forebearers, and the staging is a futuristic tableau of Black pride ascendency, a celebration of Black queer music culture and Boss Girls positivity, according to reviewers.

Nobody's breaking Beyoncé's soul during this Renaissance.

Beyoncé uttered “the words that her mostly female, significantly queer, impressively diverse, sequin-clad and bedazzled cowboy hat-wearing audience longed to hear: 'I love you, Philadelphia,' " wrote Dan Deluca in the Philadelphia Inquirer after her July 12 show.

Better get out those cowboy hats, MetLife. There have been celebs aplenty in the audiences of tour shows, including Paul McCartney, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, Dua Lipa, Kelly Rowland from Destiny's Child and many more, according to Billboard.

More: When the stars, including Beyoncé, want a hit record, they call Allen George of Englewood

There have not been many guests on stage so far — unless you count 11-year-old daughter Blue Ivy Carter joining mom in the Beyhive Pit for several shows.

We have a feeling that if there's going to be any guest stars on stage for the Renaissance World Tour, it's going to happen at MetLife. After all, the intersection of Routes 3 and 120 in East Rutherford is the center of the world in the concert industry.

Here are six possibilities for guest turns at MetLife. Some are kind of obvious, others not so much.

Beyoncé's husband is a hometown hero from Brooklyn with a strong Jersey connection. Shawn Carter used to hustle in Trenton, where he attended Trenton Central High School. Jay-Z and Beyoncé co-headlined MetLife in 2018 for their On the Run II Tour.

Cardi B lives in Tenafly with her husband Offset and their kid Kulture. They're regulars at the American Dream entertainment and retail center, so they know their way around the Meadowlands. Cardi B and Beyoncé have had a friendly relationship over the years — Cardi appeared in a vid for the “Renaissance” single, “Break My Soul.” A Cardi B appearance at MetLife would solidify the union.

“My Power,” the 2019 single from “The Lion King” soundtrack, is performed on the tour — and co-songwriter Nija Charles is a Jersey girl from the Vauxhall section of Union Township. Charles has written hits for Cardi B, Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, H.E.R., Maroon 5 and more, but a little hometown shine would sparkle into the night.

Fivio Foreign

Fivio Foreign, who headlined the 2022 Hot 97 Summer Jam at MetLife, sampled the Destiny’s Child’s hit “Say My Name” on his 2022 “What's My Name” single. The sample led to a collaboration of sorts between Fivio and Bey after the Queen told him to clean up the lyrics.

“She had to hear it,” said Fivio on Hot 97, according to thefader.com. “She heard it. It was a little vulgar, a little bit for her, at first. ... I cleaned it up a lot. It was like, ‘You can’t be talking about girls like that!' ”

This one is likely to happen. Blue Ivy Carter, the 11-year-old daughter of Beyoncé and Jay-Z, made her Renaissance World Tour stage debut on May 26 in Paris as part of the “My Power” dance ensemble. She's a hit. TikTok users are miming her moves, and even Lizzo did the Blue Ivy. She's not been on stage at every show, but a MetLife appearance would be a natural as Blue Ivy was born in New York City.

Aaron Rodgers

Rodgers, the new quarterback for the New York Jets, is a big music fan who attended the recent Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran concerts at MetLife. We're not sure if Rodgers is musically talented, but he does have his own record label, Suspended Sunrise Recordings. If Rogers attends the show, and if Bey invites him on stage, you can bet the HBO “Hard Knocks” cameras will be there to record all the action.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z: Malibu renaissance couple

Jay-Z was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and Beyoncé in Houston. But Exhibit A of their global entertainment dominance sits squarely in Southern California on the Malibu coast, a gleaming 40,000-square-foot concrete-and-glass mansion that the couple bought last year for $200 million, a record sum for a single-family home in California. Their combined net worth, according to Forbes, is estimated at more than $3 billion.

The power that hip-hop’s premier couple wields goes well beyond the symbolic. They have teamed up on some of the most storied collaborations of the last decade, traversing stadiums across North America, along with two shows in Paris, for the sometimes bumpy On the Run tour in 2014. Four years later, they ran it back with the more harmonious On the Run II, which grossed more than $250 million. In between, in 2016, they rented out the Louvre and outshone the “Mona Lisa” in the six-minute music video for “Apeshit,” in which Beyoncé shunned her signature vocal runs to instead rap bar-for-bar alongside her husband. (The family collaborations have extended to the couple’s children, with eldest child Blue Ivy Carter joining her mother on the 2023 Renaissance world tour.)

They have teamed up on some of the most storied collaborations of the last decade.

The last few years, though, have belonged to Beyoncé, who outpaced Jay-Z — and most of the recording industry — while touring behind the 2022 blockbuster “Renaissance” album and then releasing “Cowboy Carter,” another record-breaking album that saw the artist plant her flag firmly in country music terrain. The Renaissance tour, which was her highest-grossing (and the eighth highest of all time) included four late-summer stops at SoFi Stadium and a concert movie, which former Times reporter Marissa Evans called “a grandiose dare to anyone who tried to ask us to be less of ourselves.” Meanwhile, the “Renaissance” album continued to shake dance floors across the globe, while also earning Beyoncé, 42, a 32nd Grammy , making her the most decorated artist in the history of the awards show.

Even in an “off year,” Jay-Z, 54, still went where few others have gone. Last summer, the Brooklyn Public Library honored him with “The Book of HOV,” a multimedia exhibit showcasing unseen photos, archived artifacts and some of his original masters. Visitors didn’t even have to step inside the library to marvel at his greatness; some of his most timeless lyrics were stamped along the building’s towering exterior. It’s another reason why galaxy-brained entrepreneurs would line up to pay $500,000 for the chance to pick his mind over dinner — even if the man himself says it’d be a fool’s decision.

Visma-Lease a Bike reveal custom Cervélo bikes for the Tour de France

Inspired by the Renaissance, blue and yellow design avoids clash with race-leader's yellow jersey

Visma Lease a Bike's Renaissance themed Cervelo S5

In the wake of revealing that both Jonas Vingegaard and Wout van Aert have made the team's Tour de France roster, the Visma-Lease a Bike news continues apace, as the team has today revealed the custom-painted bikes on which they'll be racing.

The news of the team was teased on Monday , with a 'postcard from Tignes' posted on social media. Days later, amid confirming the selection , the team also revealed a special blue 'Renaissance' design kit, created to avoid a clash with the Tour de France's maillot jaune, the yellow jersey worn by the race's general classification leader .

Today, detailed images of the team's Cervélo bikes, in matching blue designs, have been shared.

Complete with a complex patterned dark blue base coat, remnants of yellow still shine through via the sizeable Cervélo logo on the down tube and the 'C' emblem on the head tube, but in a more luminous hue, rather than the team's usual darker palette.

A Renaissance design sits atop the top tube just behind the stem, which is overlaid with the phrase "In the spirit of limitless thinking." The team says the design was "inspired by the spirit of this remarkable period of development."

The 2024 Tour de France is unique in finishing outside Paris for the first time since 1975. Due to the clash with the Paris Olympics , the Tour de France route instead finishes with a time trial in Nice on the south coast.

To honour the change, the team highlights the race's journey from the Grand Départ in Florence, which it describes as "a city of creative thinkers, revolutionary innovators, and versatile artists such as Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, and Donatello," to the finish in "the land where it bloomed like never before."

Get The Leadout Newsletter

The latest race content, interviews, features, reviews and expert buying guides, direct to your inbox!

The team's CEO, Richard Plugge, says that with the design, "we not only honour this historic period and beautiful city and region, but it also symbolises our dedication to innovation and renewal."

Visma Lease a Bike's Renaissance themed Cervelo S5

The bikes beneath the paint will be the lightweight Cervélo R5; the aero-first Cervélo S5, complete with its unusual Y-shaped stem; and the P5 time trial bike. As shown in the images shared, the team will be using SRAM's Red AXS groupset, a 12-speed wireless groupset launched earlier this year. It's shown here with a 2x chainset, but both Vingegaard and Van Aert switched to 1x chainsets on regular occasions, and we expect to see the same again this year.

Primož Roglič, the Slovenian GC contender formerly of the Visma team, but now with Bora-Hansgrohe, has even used SRAM's Red XPLR gravel groupset on the steepest slopes in the past, taking advantage of the larger cassette for easier gearing. An as-yet-unreleased 13-speed SRAM Red XPLR gravel groupset was leaked at Unbound Gravel earlier this month, but it's unclear whether any of the SRAM-sponsored teams will have access - or a desire - to use it at the Tour.

Elsewhere on the Visma team's Renaissance bikes, the spec remains largely unchanged from the rest of the season so far. Cervélo's sister-company Reserve will supply the wheels. Italian brand Vittoria will supply the Corsa Pro tyres, which are highly regarded by our test team and feature prominently in our guide to the best road bike tyres .

Fizik's saddles will be used, though the exact model will differ from rider to rider.

Visma Lease a Bike's Renaissance themed Cervelo S5

It's unclear whether the decision to switch kit away from yellow was purely a team choice or one originally mandated by the Tour's organisers, the ASO.

Each year, the organisers of the Giro d'Italia – RCS Sport – forbid the EF Education EasyPost team from wearing their usual pink kit to avoid a clash with the maglia rosa, the pink jersey worn by its leader. The EF team have taken this in their stride, announcing repeated collaborations with streetwear brand Palace to great results.

However, in recent years, Visma Lease-A-Bike have been free to wear their usual black and yellow livery for the French race.

In 2023, despite getting a custom-painted Cervélo at the start of the race, the team's GC leader and eventual race winner, Jonas Vingegaard, finished on a similar bike with a more Tour-specific palette, matching the race leader's jersey with a celebratory yellow Cervélo.

Visma Lease a Bike's Renaissance themed Cervelo S5

However, in the world of extreme optimisation and marginal gains, paint is often seen as unnecessary weight, and riders would prefer to go without the 100 grams of powder coat. It's for this reason that many teams will use predominantly black bikes, where the black of the carbon fibre can simply be covered with a lightweight clear coat. It'll be interesting to see whether Vingegaard makes like Amy Winehouse and goes back to black on days with steeper slopes.

Interestingly, despite being just eight days away from the race at the time of publication, this is the first custom design we've seen so far. We know that Bora-Hansgrohe is set to announce a partnership with Red Bull, though, so we expect to see new custom-painted Specialized Tarmac frames next week.

We're also in the midst of 'national championships' season, so we expect to see the respective newly crowned champions given a special paint job in due course. We also expect the various brands' paint shops will be busy for the next week.

Vingegaard fit in time for the Tour: Danish title holder generously supported by impressive Visma | LaB team

T he Tour de France team lineup for Visma | Lease a Bike has finally been announced! Key riders Jonas Vingegaard and his crucial teammate Wout van Aert are in shape just in time for the start of La Grande Boucle. After their spring injuries, there was much speculation about whether they’d recover in time for the Tour de France. Fortunately, their race against time has ended successfully: Vingegaard is now set to pursue his third consecutive win starting June 29, as announced by the team on X .

It had long been stated that Vingegaard would only race if he genuinely had a good shot at the overall win. The team’s rehabilitation experts agree that he does. The selection thus holds few surprises. Vingegaard is the team leader, expecting strong support in the mountains from the likes of Sepp Kuss, Wilco Kelderman, and Matteo Jorgenson, who has been exceptionally strong this year.

Zeeman exudes pride ahead of the Tour: "Vingegaard has shown he’s a champion."

Wout van Aert and fellow Belgian Tiesj Benoot are versatile riders capable of handling nearly any terrain. These past few years, we've often seen this dynamic duo leading breakaways. On the flats, Christophe Laporte, along with Jan Tratnik, will do much of the heavy lifting, though they are also capable of tackling considerable climbs. Despite some bad luck for the yellow and black team in 2024, a robust and formidable squad will take to the starting line of the Tour in Florence.

Merijn Zeeman is, of course, very pleased that Vingegaard can participate in the Tour. "I'm extremely proud of Jonas and the support team. He's coming back from a serious injury. In the past weeks, he has shown what a champion he is, both mentally and physically. Of course, I don't yet know how far he can go. We are cautious because he hasn't been able to race and his preparation has been less than ideal, to say the least. But he will be there, healthy and motivated."

Van Aert also beat the race against time. "Like Jonas, Wout has had to deal with a significant physical and mental blow. But once again, Wout has proven himself to be a formidable champion. His class as an athlete and leadership qualities add value to our team. We are glad that Jonas and Wout will be starting, along with an excellent team and also in this unique Renaissance jersey that was unveiled today."

Van Aert will - not according to plan - go in seach of another Tour victory

Wout van Aert was the chosen one to aim for success in the Giro, until of course, fate struck at Dwars door Vlaanderen. The Belgian all-rounder has now turned the page. "I'm really looking forward to the Tour de France. Of course, this wasn't the initial plan, but after my development in the past weeks, I really wanted this and the team agreed. Our main goal is obviously to achieve a top classification with Jonas, and I want to contribute to that with an excellent team."

Merijn Zeeman further summarizes the incredibly strong selection: "Matteo Jorgenson has already become one of the strongest riders on the team this year. Sepp Kuss proved last year that he is a great climber and a leader in his own right with a victory in the Vuelta a España. European champion Christophe Laporte had an unfortunate spring due to injury and illness but has come back into form over the past two months. Tiesj Benoot had an excellent spring, including a podium finish at the Amstel Gold Race. Wilco Kelderman is fit again and will be an important rider in the mountain stages, and Jan Tratnik has already won the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad this year. He was strong in the Giro and will play a significant role in the Tour team with his experience and qualities," says Zeeman.

New renaissance kit to symbolize the resilience of Visma | Lease a Bike

Because of the predominantly yellow color in the kit, Visma | Lease a Bike must find a special jersey for the Tour every year. This year, it will be the jersey dubbed the 'Renaissance kit'. This symbolizes the team's resilience and pushing boundaries, but it's also a tribute to the journey through time that this year's Tour is: Florence is a well-known city from the Renaissance era. The new kit is now prominently featured on the team's channels.

Since the 2021 edition, Visma | Lease a Bike and its predecessor Jumbo-Visma have brought a new kit to the start of each Tour. Usually, these were matte-grey kits, last year it was predominantly a black shirt. The navy blue with subtle yellow tones of the upcoming edition is also a novelty in this respect. Visma | Lease a Bike is heading towards the start of the Tour with pride and commitment, chest out.
