  • homers219 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles A fun time and great experience I booked the Mural tour and found that the vendor also provided other Dallas tours. We were able to switch to a different tour when we checked in to see more of the sites downtown. Sign-in was fast and easy by scanning a bar code and filling in the forms on our smartphones. The operator provided clear instructions and everything we needed to have a great time. We took a quick practice run on the e-bike to get comfortable and then we were on our way. We downloaded an app to provide directions and hear audio details about each site on the tour. A fun experience that I would recommend on a clear day. We had a great time, and located a few restaurants that we went back to try later. Highly recommended. Read more Written April 25, 2024

  • Travel17679548635 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Born to be wildish! This was a fun way to see the city of Dallas! We spent the first twenty minutes getting trained on how to use the bikes and practicing on quieter streets. This was probably necessary with these e-bikes as using the throttle took a little getting used to. Our guide and her assistant guides were very safety minded. With no bike lanes, we rode close to each other, two abreast and took the whole lane. The history aspect was pretty minimal but we got lots of recommendations on where to eat and drink. For me, the best stop on the tour was at Blues Alley with so many great murals painted by local artists depicting the history of blues music in Dallas. The tour size was probably bigger than usual as it was the weekend of the total eclipse (we had about 20 in our group). It was a lot of fun traveling as a pack on these cool orange bikes. Very little energy was needed to ride the bikes and since you move at about 20mph you generate your own wind, it's a nice way to stay cool on a hot Dallas day and take in some sights! I highly recommend! Read more Written April 10, 2024

NWS: 12 tornadoes touched down in Texas this weekend. Here's where

It's springtime, which, unfortunately for Texas, means increased tornado potential.

That potential was realized over the weekend when local offices of the National Weather Service identified 10 tornadoes touching down in North Texas and Central Texas on Friday, along with two tornadoes in Madisonville — northeast of Bryan-College Station — on Saturday.

Nine of the Friday tornadoes were EF-0 or EF-1, the two lowest ratings on the Enhanced Fujita scale. An EF-2 tornado touched down in Tours, northeast of Waco.

Here's what we know:

10 tornadoes touched down within a 70-mile stretch around Corsicana, Hillsboro and McGregor

All of the tornadoes that occurred Friday fell within a 70-mile stretch along Interstate 35 and Texas 31 around Corsicana, Hillsboro and McGregor.

These tornadoes touched down in only three counties: two in Hill County, four in Navarro County and four in McLennan County. Their locations were:

  • West of Rice: EF-0 with maximum wind speeds of 75 mph.
  • Northwest of Tours: EF-0 with maximum wind speeds of 75 mph.
  • West of Waco: EF-0 with maximum wind speeds of 80 mph.
  • West of Frost: EF-0 with maximum wind speeds of 80 mph.
  • Abbott: EF-1 with maximum wind speeds of 95 mph.
  • China Spring near Waco: EF-1 with maximum wind speeds of 95 mph.
  • Penelope: EF-1 with maximum wind speeds of 105 mph.
  • Southwest of Barry: EF-1 with maximum wind speeds of 110 mph.
  • Navarro Mills Lake: EF-1 with maximum wind speeds of 110 mph.
  • North of Tours: EF-2 with maximum wind speeds of 115 mph.

Two tornadoes hit Madisonville on Saturday

Two tornadoes touched down in Madisonville on Saturday evening, according to the Storm Chasing Video page on Facebook. The National Weather Service has not yet released a preliminary report of the damage.

There were no injuries or deaths reported with the tornadoes

No injuries or deaths have been confirmed from the recent tornadoes throughout Texas, though structural damage occurred.

The EF-1 tornado in Penelope damaged two houses. Winds peeled the metal panels off the roof of one house, shifting it off its cinder blocks by about 8 inches, according to the weather service. The other, which was uninhabited, collapsed after winds entered the garage, lifting the roof off the home before it fell back onto the structure and the walls buckled.

There were also reports of several damaged trees, downed fences, damaged barns, broken windows and severe roof damage.

What's the difference between a tornado warning and a tornado watch?

  • Tornado watch: Tornadoes are possible and residents should be alert.
  • Tornado warning: Tornadoes have been spotted or indicated on weather radar, and residents should seek shelter immediately.

The Rolling Stones show no signs of slowing down as they begin their latest tour with Texas show

The legendary band kicked off their latest tour in houston, by juan a. lozano • published april 29, 2024 • updated on april 29, 2024 at 12:24 pm.

Time marches on and all good things must come to an end. But don’t tell that to The Rolling Stones.

What many believe to be the greatest rock ’n’ roll band in the world showed no signs of slowing down anytime soon as they kicked off their latest tour Sunday night at Houston’s NRG Stadium.

The Stones have been touring for more than 60 years. Frontman Mick Jagger and lead guitarist Keith Richards are both 80, with guitarist Ronnie Wood not far behind at 76. Their tour is being sponsored in part by AARP.

But during a vibrant two-hour show, the Stones played with the energy of a band that was on tour for the first time.

“It’s great to be back in the Lone Star State,” Jagger told the packed stadium, filled with longtime fans, many wearing faded concert shirts from previous tours.

Jagger often strutted up and down the stage with seemingly boundless energy while Richards and Wood played many familiar guitar riffs beloved by fans. Jagger often led the audience in sing-alongs.

“The energy level is up and it’s always up with them. The age doesn’t show,” Dale Skjerseth, the Stones’ production director, said Friday before the concert.

The Stones have hit the road to support the release of their latest album, “Hackney Diamonds,” the band’s first record of original music since 2005.

Houston was the first stop on the band’s 16-city tour across the U.S. and Canada. Other cities on the tour include New Orleans, Philadelphia and Vancouver, British Columbia. The tour ends on July 17 in Santa Clara, California.

During Sunday's 18-song concert set list, the Stones played several tracks off the new record, including the lead single “Angry.” They also played classics including “Sympathy for the Devil,” “Gimmer Shelter,” Honky Tonk Women” and “Start Me Up.”

After playing “Beast of Burden,” Jagger said that concertgoers in Houston had voted to include it on the setlist.

“You can’t go wrong with that,” one man in the audience could be heard screaming.

The Stones also played some unexpected choices, including “Rocks Off,” from their 1972 double album “Exile on Main St.” and “Out of Time,” a 1966 song that Jagger said during the concert had not ever been played by the band in the U.S.

With the 2021 death of drummer Charlie Watts, the Stones are now comprised of the core trio of Jagger, Richards and Wood. On Sunday, they were backed by various musicians including two keyboardists, a new drummer, backup singers and a brass section.

While the stage was surrounded by a large collection of video screens projecting images throughout the show, the main focus of the concert was the band and their songs

Before Sunday’s concert, Jagger spent time on Friday touring NASA’s Johnson Space Center in suburban Houston, posting photos on his Instagram account of him with astronauts inside Mission Control.

“I had an amazing trip to the Space Center,” Jagger said.

When asked if the band might be thinking about retiring, Dale Skjerseth, the band's production manager, said he doubts that will happen.

“This is not the end. They’re very enthused,” he said.
