Royal Caribbean Group now owns 100% of Silversea Cruises

MIAMI — Royal Caribbean Group now has full ownership of Silversea Cruises after purchasing the remaining one-third stake in the luxury cruise line.

The move to full ownership  started in 2018 when Royal Caribbean Group acquired two-thirds of Silversea  in a US$1 billion deal. Silversea’s Manfredi Lefebvre D’Ovidio retained a one-third share and stayed on as Executive Chairman. With this latest development he will serve as chairman of Silversea, while Roberto Martinoli will remain the brand’s president and CEO.

Royal Caribbean Group announced the purchase of the remaining shares today.

“Silversea has been a great fit for our company from the very first day,” said Richard D. Fain, Chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group. “The cultures of the two organizations have proven to be harmonious, and guests have responded favourably to the combination.”

Fain added: “Manfredi and Roberto have brought a fresh point of view to our company, as well as deep knowledge of their brand’s unique audience. Their skills – and Manfredi’s inimitable style – will continue to play an important role in growing Silversea into the future.”

Lefebvre said the combination of two companies “has been everything I hoped for. The skills and resources of Royal Caribbean Group have helped us grow and flourish. We share a vision about the bright future of cruising, and I look forward to being a shareholder in the broader Royal Caribbean Group.”

Royal caribbean group acquires cruise ship endeavor, growing silversea cruises’ expedition offerings.

MIAMI – July 18, 2022 –  Royal Caribbean Group (NYSE: RCL) today announced it has received court approval to acquire the ultra-luxury cruise ship Endeavor. Originally delivered to Crystal Cruises in 2021, the ship will be renamed Silver Endeavour when it officially joins the Group’s wholly owned subsidiary, Silversea Cruises’ fleet, this month.

The purchase price for the vessel was $275 million, significantly below the cost of construction. The vessel was fully financed through a 15-year unsecured term loan, guaranteed by the German export credit agency, Euler Hermes, with no amortization payments in the first two years. The acquisition is expected to be immediately accretive to earnings, cash flow and ROIC. 

“With Endeavour, we are seeking to grow our world class fleet to meet the exceptional demand for ultra-luxury expedition cruising, while also enhancing our profitability profile and affirming Silversea’s position as the industry’s leading ultra-luxury and expedition cruise line,” said Jason Liberty, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean Group. 

Built to PC6 polar class specifications, the ship can operate all of Silversea’s current expedition itineraries and is designed specifically to take travelers to the world’s most remote destinations, including both polar regions.

“The expedition cruising industry is poised to resume accelerated growth driven by demand among high-end, affluent customers for travel to remote and hard-to-access destinations,” said Roberto Martinoli, president and CEO, Silversea Cruises. “This ship will be the fourth vessel to join Silversea’s fleet since 2020, which demonstrates our commitment to growth.” 

Silver Endeavour offers the highest standards in the industry in terms of space-per-guest ratio, and crew-to-guest ratio, as well as top-notch accommodations and public areas. The ship’s state-of-the-art expedition amenities offer guests some of the most immersive and luxury experiences available, including traveling with a fleet of zodiac boats for remote exploration.

“Delivering the best vacations in the world, responsibly, is Royal Caribbean Group’s purpose,” Liberty said. “While our acquisition only covers the physical vessel, we want all of our guests to know we go above and beyond to take care of them.”

As part of the ongoing RCL Cares program, Royal Caribbean Group will protect the deposits of guests who were originally booked on Crystal Endeavor and make a new booking on one of the Group's global brands – Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Silversea Cruises. 

"We believe those Crystal guests will receive back their deposits, but we want to give them added assurance," Liberty added.

To the extent the Crystal Endeavor guests do not receive their deposits back from Crystal or other sources, the Royal Caribbean Group will refund any amount paid on their new booking up to the amount of their lost deposits from Crystal. Complete terms of the offer will be provided on each brand’s website soon.

Silver Endeavour   is scheduled to begin service winter 2022/2023, spending its inaugural season in Antarctica starting November 2022.

Barbara Muckermann Named President and CEO at Silversea Cruises

Barbara Muckermann, currently Chief Commercial Officer of Silversea, will become Silversea’s next president and CEO, and will join Royal Caribbean Group’s Executive Committee, according to a press release.

Silversea Cruises current President and CEO Roberto Martinoli will assume the role of senior advisor to Royal Caribbean Group President and CEO Jason Liberty.

“Roberto has built Silversea Cruises into the category leader that it is today, 11 ships strong with more on the way,” said Jason Liberty, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group. “He is one of the most innovative and knowledgeable leaders in the maritime industry. As senior advisor, Roberto will continue to provide strategic guidance that further cements Royal Caribbean Group’s status as a leader in the travel and hospitality industry. Barbara is the ideal executive to succeed Roberto. Her global perspective and team-first leadership style are a recipe for success for both the Silversea Cruises brand and Royal Caribbean Group.”

Under Martinoli’s leadership since 2016, Silversea’s fleet has grown to include 11 ships. In summer 2023, it will welcome Silver Nova, the first hybrid luxury cruise ship utilizing fuel cells and emitting zero harmful emissions while in port, an industry first. In 2024, Silversea welcomes Silver Ray, the second ship in the Nova Class. Martinoli also led the acquisition in 2022 of Silver Endeavour to help enable the company to access both polar regions. The ultra-luxury cruise line now sails to over 900 destinations across all seven continents each year, more than any other cruise line.

Muckermann brings more than 25 years of experience in the travel and hospitality industry, with an emphasis on creating truly exclusive high-end vacations. She first joined Silversea Cruises in 2001, and held several roles at other luxury and cruise brands from 2005 to 2016 before returning. In her current post as Silversea’s Chief Commercial Officer, she oversees all aspects of sales, marketing, revenue management and guest relations, as well as strategic communications and brand and product strategy. 1994 :  Silver Cloud

Alex joined Silversea's Silver Ray in Lisbon as one of the first guests to board prior to its early June naming launch. Read our Silver Ray review below.

Described as a white paper ship, where the architects could create a vessel entirely from scratch, Silversea's Silver Ray is part of a radically different class of ship and quite unlike anything else in the ultra-luxury cruise sector. With a horizontal and asymmetrical design, expanded culinary offering and an eye to the future of Silversea it was fascinating to see how these elements combined to create a phenomenal experience that is sure to tempt many new-to-cruise guests, while aspects of the renowned Silversea experience will delight their loyalists.

As we emarked the bright skies of Lisbon we have to say Silver Ray looked fabulous; a mix of gleaming glass and muted tones. It was the first time we'd seen one of the Silversea classic vessels in their new colours - and as we quickly came to realise, this symbolised a marked change taking place amongst the Silversea fleet with Silver Ray, and sister ship to the 728-guest Silver Nova which launched in 2023, being noticeably different to previous Silversea builds, with each of the key features combining for an extraordinary effect. Let's consider the most significant in turn.

Horizontal design

In a significant departure for Silversea, although not unique amongst ultra-luxury ships, Silver Ray has a horizontal design. This means decks are entirely given to either public spaces or guest accommodation, from forward to aft, rather than public spaces and restaurants being located at the rear across all decks, and guest accommodation mid and forward.

The significant benefit it allows is for a wider range of suite type and I had the chance to see the large Master Suite and huge Otium Suite, which provides 1,324 square feet of space and available on the Nova class only; it's the only Silversea suite type to include a private jacuzzi on the 431-square-foot balcony. The horizontal design also combines with the ship's asymmetrical layout in the public areas to dramatic effect.

Asymmetrical layout

Silversea have ripped up the rule book completely by introducing an asymmetrical layout. A nightmare for the engineers, it's a huge enhancement for guests. It's difficult to overstate just how large an effect it made to the feeling I had on board, which I found most noticeable on the pool and sundecks, but that permeated throughout the entire ship.

As a result of this design, sailing on Silver Ray felt more akin to being in a seafront hotel rather than on a ship, nowhere more so than when by the pool. With a welcoming beach club vibe, the swimming pool is offset to the side directing views outwards to sea or over port and gives space for a sociable central bar. It really did feel like the trendiest hotel rooftop.

The multi-level design has numerous areas with plenty of quieter lounging and seating areas with or without shade. Within the ship this layout has allowed Silversea to play with the ceiling height in several areas. Upon boarding, a triple-height space gives an airy, hotel lobby feel to the reception, arts café and The Shelter, a lovely bar-cum-meeting place just outside the largest dining venues, Atlantide and S.A.L.T. Kitchen. A two-story theatre shares the ship's width with the French dining restaurant La Dame, impressively providing suitable capacity for the popular talks I attended as well as being an intimate space with sea views!

Sea views are the order of the day in almost every single area, even the lifts - where glass boxes (either forward on the left or aft on the ship's right) whizz guests up and down, with glorious views. There is clever use of The Shelter, provided by the asymmetry in the airy La Terrazza and Panorama Lounge, to offer outside space at the curving back of the ship.

Culinary excellence

Silversea's culinary offering has been expanded and refined in recent years and the advancements on Silver Ray are clear. Each restaurant feels like a destination and particular favourites of mine were The Marquee and S.A.L.T. Chef's Table. Both located on the pool deck, each offers fantastic views but with very different experiences.

The Marquee, a refined pool grill, offers a casual dining experience throughout the day, and in the evening becomes a sheltered, open-air venue with the feeling of a stylish Mediterranean town square, hosting Hot Rocks, Silversea famed table BBQ concept. It was wonderful to be dining outside in relaxed comfort, especially when sailing. The main restaurants Atlantide and the Italian La Terrazza serve familiar favourites.

Then there was S.A.L.T Chef's Table, part of the expansive S.A.L.T programme that both we at Mundy and our Silversea guests have been hugely impressed by. Offering just 18 guests an expansive tasting menu, it's one of just two of the seven venues on board to have a supplemental charge (the other being La Dame). Hosted by one of Silversea's talented team, and supplemented at times by renowned local chefs, each course was introduced with its inclusion on the menu reflecting the local destination. I enjoyed European gastronomy enhanced with some local flavours of Lisbon, including the famous grilled sardine as the city geared up for June's Santo Antonio Festival, where the locals pour into the streets and setting up their own barbecues to grill sardines for an amazing street party. This is just one small aspect of the S.A.L.T programme.

The adjoining S.A.L.T Bar serves speciality cocktails, with Silver Ray offering its very own special creation! The S.A.L.T Kitchen offers two destination-inspired menus - the Terrain menu offering dishes specific to the port visited, and the Voyage menu, drawing inspiration from the journey as a whole. The S.A.L.T excursions are exceptional, small-group tours focused on local flavours, with the entire concept based around regional and micro-regional food, so guests can understand not just a country's culinary highlights, but the differences between the north and south of a country like Portugal.

Silversea standards

These differences combine with elements that past Silversea guests love. The suite layout will feel instantly familiar to past guests where no corners have been cut, apart from the actual corner of the walk-in wardrobe to cleverly create more space without comprising on storage. And of course, the Silversea service aligns with the rest of the fleet, with butlers attending to every guest, and the evening atmosphere matching Silversea's refinement.

It's clear that this ship marks the future for Silversea. Not just a vessel aimed at attracting cruise guests who might not have considered the brand before, but an ideal ship for those who are new to cruise, combining as it does the style and sophistication of a chic luxury hotel with the chance to enjoy a taster, literally, of a region.

Next year we will be taking the Whisper through the Baltic and I see that it is possible to do a mid-voyage land trip to Moscow from St Petersburg by high speed train.

a. Has anyone done this?

b. If so, is it worthwhile?

Next year we will be taking the Whisper through the Baltic and I see that it is possible to do a mid-voyage land trip to Moscow from St Petersburg by high speed train. Questions: a. Although we did not do this Moscow excursion through Silversea, I can offer some ideas, factors to consider, etc. We were on Crystal at that time in 2008 and it was done then via air flight for this one-day excursion. Rail save a little "net" time, maybe, probably. Always trade-offs on rail versus air. The cost at that time was a little under a $1000 per person for us My guess is that the current pricing is somewhat in the range, partly affected by currency value changes. Fortunately, the Russian rubble has fallen in value in recent months. Silversea, Crystal and other cruise lines use local suppliers for these trips.

MOSCOW?? : YES, the high-speed train connection does make a big difference for your logistics. I'll offer the various pro/con factors for your consideration on the question of doing Moscow . . . or not. My wife thought it was lots of money, but she viewed it as very much worth it after completing the trip as a "once in a lifetime" experience. If you have good private tours in St. Petersburg, you can see most of the great and excellent stuff there in just two days.

CON FACTORS : It's a long day! Leave the ship early (greeted by a small welcoming band dockside); get back to the St. Petersburg airport around midnight and back to the ship a little before 1 am. Moscow is a super large city of over ten million people. There has been huge growth in the suburbs of this city during the past decades or so. Traffic and time from the airport to the main downtown takes about an hour, but the train takes your directly into the heart of this large city. Since we had to drive in from the airport, we had a good feel as we traveled into town through the coach windows about the “new Moscow” with its suburban growth, commerce, advertising, capitalism, big box stores, etc.

PRO FACTORS : Moscow has its unique history, sights and sites, from Ivan the Terrible up through Lenin, Stalin and the new Russian leaders of today. After a long ride in from the airport on the outer edge of this large metro areas of 17.3 million (with 10.5 million in the city), we stopped at a new hotel for coffee/tea/break. Then, we rode the Moscow subway and saw a couple of their very unique and artistic stations. Stalin at the time called these stations “People’s Palaces”. This Moscow Metro was first opened in 1935 and now has 182 stations, 12 different lines,187 miles of routes and carries seven million passengers each weekday. It’s the world second busiest subway system. This subway ride offered a good sampling of real life for people who live and work in Moscow. We then saw more key places enroute, including the home of the Bolshoi Ballet, KGB Headquarters, various Stalin-era buildings, etc. Then we went to the Kremlin with its 19 historic towers. WOW, we were really there!

Inside the Kremlin are three key “super stars”. First, was the State Armoury with its spectacular Faberge Eggs, plus so many carriages, crowns, gowns, jewels, etc. Second are the various historic Cathedrals within the Kremlin Walls, plus the Tower Bells, Icon art, etc. This includes the Cathedral of the Annunciation built in the 1480’s and having such spectacular wall murals and icons. Third, was the Great Kremlin Palace with its spectacular reception halls, inlaid wood floors, gold and more gold, fancy ceilings, etc. The Czars were crowned here, plus the current heads of the Russian government, etc. The size and scale of these areas are hard to describe in words, let alone reflect and capture the history that has happened in some of these rooms dating back to the late 1400’s. We have seen lots of great palaces all over Europe, but this is something above and beyond for the eyes, heart and brain.

Then, we saw more building inside the walls of the Kremlin. We went outside of the Kremlin Walls and walked next door to adjoining Red Square, seeing St. Basil’s and the re-done Gum Department Store. Red Square is so historic, especially having grown up seeing the military May Day parades there, visuals of Lenin’s Tomb, etc. Have the words “spectacular” and historic been used too much? Maybe, but it fits for many of these unique places. St. Basil’s was built 1555–1561 on the order of Ivan IV (the Terrible). It was the tallest building in Moscow until the completion of the Ivan the Great Bell Tower (266 feet tall) in 1600 inside the Kremlin Walls. To be able to “CONTRAST” and compare Moscow and St. Petersburg during these three short days adds to the benefits of seeing both of these great Russian capital cities. Each is a very different and special city.

We finished with dinner in the Central Writers’ Club, a one hundred years old mansion made into a restaurant with crystal chandeliers, rich wood panelling, fireplaces, and antique balustrades.

Is one day in Moscow too short and limited? YES! You can, however, do and see lots in only that one short day. How often do you get to Russia? The Cold War might not exactly come back in full force, but there are going to be increasing and revisited tensions in future years involving Russia and getting access there. The key cruise lines have done this tour many times and have its details down well and timing perfected. Let me know any questions, thoughts or reactions.

Here is one of the Kremlin Wall Towers in Moscow. It is a defensive wall that surrounds the Kremlin with its recognizable notches and the famed Kremlin towers. The original walls were likely a simple wooden fence with guard towers built in 1156. Between 1485 and 1495 a brigade of Italian architects designed a new defense perimeter. With an outer perimeter of over 7300 feet, the Kremlin appears as a loose triangle. Twenty towers survived to highlight the walls. Built at a different time, the oldest one dates to 1485 while the newest one was built in 1680. Three of the towers, located in the corners, have circular designs.:

Walking on the famed Red Square of Moscow can be thrilling!! This square separates the Kremlin, as the former royal citadel and the current official residence for Russia's President, from a historic merchant quarter. Red Square is often considered the central square of Moscow and all of Russia, because Moscow's major streets originate from here. The name Red Square comes neither from the color of the bricks nor from the link between the color red and communism. The name came about because of a Russian word that can mean either "red" or "beautiful". This word, per Wikipedia, has the meaning "beautiful", was originally applied to Saint Basil's Cathedral. Then, later, the meaning was transferred to the nearby square. It is believed that the square acquired its current name in the 17th century. Red Square was the leading stage and trade center for Moscow. Ivan the Great decreed that trade should only be conducted from person to person, but later these rules were relaxed and permanent market buildings began appearing on the square. After a fire in 1547, Ivan the Terrible reorganized the lines of wooden shops on the Eastern side into market lines and part of that transitioned into what is now GUM department store that adjoins this famed square.:

This is the interior for Moscow's most historic church, Assumption Cathedral or the Cathedral of the Dormition, inside the Kremlin walls. It is the mother church of Muscovite Russia. The church stands on Cathedral Square and was built in 1475–1479 by the Italian architect Aristotele Fioravanti. It was erected on the spot of an older 14th century cathedral of the same name:

Here is a small sampling of the Kremlin Royal Treasures of the Czars: Eggs & Jewels inside the famed State Armoury in Moscow. One of the oldest museums in Moscow, it was established in 1808 and located within the Kremlin Walls. It originated as the royal arsenal in 1508 during when it was in charge of producing, purchasing and storing weapons, jewelry and various household articles of the Tsars. There are ten Fabergé eggs in the Armoury collection (all Imperial eggs). This is the most Imperial eggs, and the second-most overall Fabergé eggs, owned by a single owner. The Trans-Siberian Railway Egg is a jeweled Easter egg made under the supervision of the Russian jeweler Peter Carl Fabergé in 1900 for Tsar Nicholas II of Russia. It was presented by Nicolas II as an Easter gift to his wife. The exterior of the 1900 Trans-Siberian Railway egg is made of onyx, silver, gold, and quartz, and is decorated with colored vitreous enamel. The lid of the egg is hinged, has an overlay of green enamel, and is decorated with inlaid leaves of acanthus. On top of the lid is a golden three-headed eagle in gold with the Imperial Crown. The interior is lined with velvet. A route map of the Trans-Siberian Railway is engraved in silver across the face, with major stations marked by a precious stone, forming a belt around the egg. The egg is supported by three griffins made of gold-plated silver on a stepped triangular base of white onyx.:

The Russian subways are called the “People’s Palaces” with their marble coverings and unique designs for each of the different and many stations. This visual is from Moscow, but you have similar to see in St. Petersburg. Very interesting!!:

Kazan Cathedral sits on the northeast corner of Red Square in Moscow. The current building is a reconstruction of the original church which was destroyed at the direction of Joseph Stalin in 1936. The original church was erected as a shrine in the early 1630s to mark the city's liberation from the Polish aggressors. After the Soviet Union’s fall, this was the first church to be completely rebuilt. The cathedral's restoration (1990–1993) was based on the detailed measurements and photographs of the original church:

$1000 each seems a lot to me, especially when we could fly from UK and spend a week there in a decent hotel for less!

We did Moscow pre Baltic Cruise and spent 3 nights there and felt we easily could have spent longer.

The Cruise Tours do not go into the Diamond fund and this in my many travels was something I will never forget, even the atmosphere inside was jaw dropping . We spent a very full day in the Kremlin, arriving at opening and leaving quite late, and had a full ticket. I did not feel we could have missed any of it.

It was nice to compare GUM and TSUM and to do some of the Bolshevik House/Palaces that are very small and not on the tour trip. We also did the space museum which was interesting to see and compare with other venues we had been too.

We missed Gorky Park (not enough time, apparently the cemetery is to die for) and some of the museums in Red Square.

The subway was another highlight just comparing the different lines (although SPB has the same type of style)

people we spoke to from our cruise were a bit disappointed as we had a night at Catherines Palace (if SS offer this it is a must do) then they had an early departure the next day and a near midnight arrival back at the ship. Most expressed that it was more like running a marathon than having a sightseeing trip.

negatives to DIY… getting the VISA, not because it was hard but because it was time consuming and a lot of information was needed to complete the documents.

Getting through customs in the airport was reaaaaallllllly slow, close to 2 hours and we were in business class and first off our plane.

Food and drink was really pricey, bottled water was the same price as Vodka, even in convenience stores.

Crime and corruption, yes it exists but we never had a problem. We were warned by the hotel though.

positives… we had flexibility and could juggle things around based on the temps (one day was 43C)

It was great people watching and it was wedding season..

Locals were amazingly helpful, on the subway, in the street etc. Most were trying to learn english.

Excellent point on the difference in viewing this question if from the UK . . . versus . . . those of us from the US. You are closer to Moscow compared to our much longer distance away. Maybe today's pricing is around $800-900. Not sure. It is an expensive day-trip, but it worked very well for our needs and interests. If you do from the UK directly to Moscow, then you have the hassles with their visa's, etc. That is for us from America. Not sure on the Russian visa rules for those from the UK.

Yes, we did a trip to Moscow a few years ago from the ship. We booked it through Exeter, a private tour company. We went for the whole time the ship was in St Petersburg, 3 days, 2 nights. We were picked up at the ship, taken to the airport and met by an escort. Yes, the visa process is bit of a pain but the travel company was very helpful. Upon arrival in Moscow we were met at the airport and taken to our hotel. The rooftop bar overlooked Red Square, it was great! We had a guide and driver for 2 days. The difficulty for us, at the time, was that I was in a WC. Very problematic. Moscow airport elevators and escalators were non-functional, lots of steps and very long distances. In the airport and in the city there was not much access via WC and nobody was interested in helping us. Our guide had to pay some bribes to get us into some places. It was uncomfortable for all of us. We wined and dined well. I would not have missed a moment of the 3 days. I am very thankful for the opportunity. I think you probably don't get too many chances to visit Moscow. If you fly, Aeroflot had a new plane at the time and our TA made sure we were on the new one! Do it!

It seems that a visit to Moscow is a must. Bearing in mind the above comments and advice it's hard to know whether to take a day from the ship or do a seperate trip from home.

imo this is a good idea of you have already been to St Petersburg and seen most of the important sights. If this is your first time there is so much to see that you will regret missing one whole day.

That's a good point. Always fancied St P but less so Moscow so it might well be wise to consider a long weekend trip to Moscow another time and take advantage of the further full day in St P.

If you have been to St. Petersburg before, and are in the been there, done that mode, then yes, go to Moscow.

But I have been to St. Petersburg twice, both for 3 days and still have no real desire to go to Moscow. There is so much to see in St. Petersburg that is really special. Maybe, if I were to go again, I would include Moscow, but I really am not sure.

We have been to St. P. multiple times. It looked like my last chance to see Moscow. Despite the difficulties, I am glad we did it!

Hi all - in the early planning stages for a possible cruise next summer (2016) that gives us 3 days in SPB. We feel that getting to Moscow for that middle day might be worth it as who knows if we will get the chance to go there in the future.

The only problem is that the middle day is Thursday when the Kremlin is closed. Does that make it not worth going? Can we still walk around the grounds of the Kremlin or does closed mean the gates are locked? Any thoughts or advice from those who have done this crazy 3 day marathon would be appreciated.

The Armoury is one of the oldest museums in Moscow, established in 1808 and contained as one of the buildings with this walled complex. Much depends on your degree of history interest, budget flexibility, physical style/energy, etc., as to whether going to Moscow would be worth it. Or, not. For us, it was a definitely a . . . WORTH IT, . . . amazing thrill. Personal choice!!

I would check back and push the cruise tour people as to whether they are still planning to do that Moscow trip on a Thursday. Seems dumb to do that scheduling as the Armoury would be closed for that one day. They should flip the Wednesday and Thursday schedules. Or, ask what they would be substituting that day in place of seeing the Armoury. Ask if there is any possibility of getting inside the Grand Kremlin Palace . That structure is very large with its large, regal official rooms and locations where Czars and Presidents have been crowned and sworn in, etc. Very spectacular!!

Unfortunately, that day is a Thursday. Only a few companies will schedule a Moscow tour on Thursday (the biggest ones won't), but it seems worth it to us to make the journey as we will be so close as long as we can substitute something else for the Kremlin museums.

The tour company website says: "The Kremlin is closed on Thursdays. If you wish to visit Moscow on Thursday we can arrange a tour of the Tretyakov Gallery, the KGB Museum or any other museum of your choice."

As for the budget, it is what it is. If we can get 8 people, we might get the price down to approx. $500/pp.

Appreciate, Paul, your kind comments about my posts and understanding the "challenges" and trade-offs to consider in making such travel plans. Yes, it would be ideal to be able to see the Kremlin State Armoury. Plus, the Grand Kremlin Palace. BUT, you've got to work with and play the "cards" that you are dealt. Make the best of the various and available opportunities!! Clearly, you cannot do it "ALL" in three days in either St. Petersburg and/or Moscow.

We have not visited the Tretyakov Gallery , but in looking at a couple of different info sources, including TripAdvisor, they give it very high marks. Sounds interesting, especially if you like aspects for these period of Russian history and culture.
