How to buy tickets and visiting the Alhambra

1. Advance bookings

One option is to buy your ticket up to three months in advance. We recommend booking as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

2. Only buy through official channels

There are two ways of buying your ticket in advance. You can buy it from official website or by calling +34 858953616.

3. Choose the right type of ticket

The general ticket grants access to all areas open to the public. The gardens ticket, meanwhile, only grants access to the main landscaped areas. There are also two tickets for night-time visits: one for the palaces (available throughout the year) and one for the Generalife Gardens and Palace (available from April to November). The “Alhambra experiences” ticket includes a night-time tour of the Nasrid Palaces, and a daytime tour of the gardens the next day. Both grant free access to the Palace of Charles V and the Alhambra Museum.

4. Note when travelling with children under the age of 12

The tickets for these children are free, but they must be purchased so that they can gain access. In the case of minors from 3 to 11 years old, tickets must be booked at the time of purchase together with the rest of the adult tickets. Tickets for children under 3 years of age do not need to be booked in advance as they are provided at the ticket offices or at the entrances to the monument.

5. Organise your visit around the opening times for the Nasrid Palaces

A visit lasts approximately three hours, although the Nasrid Palaces have set visiting times that are allocated when purchasing the ticket. These cannot be changed. You should therefore plan your visit around these times. We recommend the following two itineraries: Alcazaba – Palaces – Generalife, or alternatively, Generalife – Alcazaba – Palaces. Bear in mind the following distances: it takes 15 minutes from the entrance to the Alhambra to the Generalife, 17 to the Nasrid Palaces, and 20 to the Alcazaba.

6. Think about how to get to the Alhambra

If you’re driving, bear in mind that you need to make your approach from the southern ring-road (Ronda Sur), since private vehicles are not permitted to approach from the city centre. You may find it more convenient to take a taxi or the C3 or C4 local bus (it takes 15 to 20 from Plaza de Isabel La Católica, in Granada) or catch the “Granada City Tour” tourist train. If you decide to walk, it takes about 20 minutes from Paseo de los Tristes or from Plaza del Realejo.

7. Take your digital or printed tickets with you

To access, you must show your physical or digital QR code ticket in addition to presenting your ID document or passport. If you wish, you can take the ticket printed on A4 paper, or with the type of ticket that is provided at the ticket offices and automatic vending machines.

8. If you haven’t purchased your ticket yet, you can do so on the day of your visit

While we don’t advise leaving it until the last minute, advance booking is available up to two hours before your visit. You also have the option of buying tickets when you arrive at the monument. There is no guarantee whatsoever that tickets will be available, and tickets bought at the Alhambra will only be valid for that day. Payment is by credit card (from the ticket machines) or by cash (at the ticket desk) only.

Where and how to get a ticket to visit the Alhambra

General information about the tickets

• Due to the great demand of tickets and to the restriction in the number of visitors per day, advance booking is recommended.
• You will only be able to access the Nasrid Palaces in the time slot indicated on your ticket. If you do not enter at the designated time, you will not be able to visit this space.
• Due to the large crowds it is advisable to arrive at the monument in advance, especially on weekends and holidays.
• Visitors should leave the Monument at the closing time.

About Nasrid Palaces Visit

The Nasrid Palaces may only be accessed in the hour indicated on your ticket, due to limited capacity. If you don’t visit them in this time slot, you will lose your right to visit this part of the Alhambra. If your time slot for the Nasrid Palaces corresponds with the final entrance of the day (one hour before closing time), it is recommended visiting the Generalife and the Alcazaba before entering the Nasrid Palaces, which will take you at least half an hour.

Types of tickets

There are several types of tickets. Read the Alhambra timetables section for more details.

Admission to the Charles V Palace, the Alhambra Museum and the Mosque baths is free.

The visit includes those places that have been designated as "area of the month" (areas which are not normally accessible by the public), as long as these areas are included in the itineraries allowed in your ticket.

Alhambra General (Complete visit)

This visit includes the following areas: Alcazaba, the Nasrid Palaces, Partal, the Generalife and Gardens.

The General Day visit includes all the areas of the Gardens Day visit.

• Minors under 12: Free admission

• Generalife: Palace and Gardens (the court of the Main Canal, the Soultana’s Court and the water Stairway)

This ticket does not provides you with the access the Nasrid palaces.

• Children from 0 to 2 years old. Free admission, to be collected at the ticket offices or at the entrances to the monument. It is not necessary to book in advance.
• Children from 3 to 11 years old. Free admission, which must be reserved at the time of purchase of adult tickets.
• Persons purchasing discounted tickets must show proof of eligibility for the discount at the ticket office before the start of the visit.
• If your ticket includes the visit to the Nasrid Palaces, you will only be able to access this area in the time slot indicated on your ticket.   
• Depending on the purchase method these prices may be increased by a commission.

History of the Alhambra palace & Generalife

The Alhambra de Granada is a medieval fortress and palace in Granada Spain and certainly one of Spain's highlights. The palace complex of the Alhambra originates from the period of Moorish conquest (Nasrid sultans) and means qasr alhamrā in Arabic, or the Red Palace . The red colour comes from the red clay the stones mixed in with the stones and in the softer evening light, they give the building complex a beautiful dark red colour. The fortress (Alcazaba) is situated strategically atop a hill and is clearly visible from Granada's city centre. Within the walls of the fortress, you will find stunning Arabic Nashrid palaces, the lovely gardens of summer palace Generalife, imposing Christian churches and medieval towers.

A Moorish palace in Andalusia

This 'city within a city' was built in the 13th century by the Moors on Sabika hill in Granada . After the Catholic royal couple conquered the city of Granada from the Moors in 1492, this palace was also taken in possession. In 1526, their grandson Charles V commissioned the construction of a renaissance style palace in the centre of the Alhambra . A special feature of the Alhambra Spain are the many marvellous Moorish decorations from the period of Yusuf I. Moreover, the palace has now been beautifully restored: Marble columns and floors, ceilings of fine woodcraft, walls with impressive calligraphies and transverse archways with geometric figures. The Parador de Granada can also be found in the gardens of the Alhambra. This is the former monastery of San Francisco where, originally, the catholic kings were buried.

Visit the Alhambra Spain: Online Tickets

The Alhambra is the highlight of Granada and should certainly be part of your Granada city trip. You can spend a full day exploring the palace and its surrounding gardens. To be certain of tickets, it is necessary to buy tickets online in advance ! Each half hour, for each time slot, only 300 people are allowed to visit the Alhambra-Nasrid palace. Buying Alhambra palace tickets on location is almost impossible (only for tickets to visit the gardens). The Alhambra-tickets including the Nasrid Palace are often already sold out weeks in advance. Do not take any chances and buy your Alhambra tickets online so you don't miss one of Spain's major highlights!

Places to visit in the Alhambra Granada

The Nasrid palace is the original Moorish palace of the Nasrid Sultans who inhabited it during the 13th and 14th centuries. The palace grounds - for which Alhambra tickets incl. Nasrid Palace are required - consist of the following buildings:

• The Mexuar : The oldest part, where the sultan of Granada received his subordinates. In this reception hall, important decisions were made regarding legal and business affairs.
• Palacio de Comares : This is the sultan's palace which was built around the Patio de los Arrayanes. The water reservoir in the middle has a beautiful mirror-like function. In the palace, you will find several halls such as the ambassador's hall, the Sala de Barca and the Torre de Comares with nine bedrooms.
• Palacio de los Leones : This Court of Lions palace from 1377 features a patio with an impressive marble fountain in the middle, which boasts twelve water-spouting lions and surrounded by the palace's 124 columns. The Court of Lions must surely be a reflection of paradise: the 124 white marble columns symbolise palm trees, the twelve lions symbolise the twelve zodiac signs and the four water canals leading to the fountain represent the four rivers of paradise. Around the patio, you can find the bedroom of the sultan and his wives and the Sala de los Reyes which is intended for large family gatherings.
• Mirador de Daraxa : The residence of the harem of the Sultan.
• Los baños : The impressive baths of the palace that were an important part of the Islamic tradition.

Sights around the Nasrid Palace

In addition, you will find the following sights around the Nasriden Palace:

• Palacio Carlos V : This gigantic square palace in Renaissance style was built in 1527 by order of Carlos V and lies in the centre of the Alhambra . This palace of Carlos V was built after the complex was reconquered from the Moors and the large circular courtyard with two column galleries is certainly striking.
• Generalife : The absolutely gorgeous gardens and adjacent summer palace where the sultans would find tranquillity between fountains, ponds and green terrace gardens in the Generalife summer palace. The many aromas of the herbs and vegetable garden complete the paradise-like experience of the Generalife gardens.
• Alcazar fortress : The military stronghold and fortress from the 11th century; double defensive walls and mighty towers had to protect the city . This fortress formed the first basis for the impregnable stronghold of the Moorish kings. From the Torre de la Vela you have a splendid view over Granada, Sacromonte and the Albaicin District .

How do I get to the Alhambra in Spain?

The Alhambra de Granada is just over a twenty-minute walk from Granada (for example Plaza Nueva and the Cathedral ). From the centre it's almost a mile to reach the palace. You can climb the hill via two sides: via the Cuesta de Gomérez or when you are near the Albaicin -district via the Paseo de los Tristes .

Parking near the Alhambra Granada?

Parking near the entrance is possible, but pricey. At the Camino Viejo del Cementerio there is a large car park (accessible via Ronda Sur). Parking costs may be up to 3 euros per hour during high season. From the parking lot you can walk to the inner city in about 15 minutes.

Plan your visit and make the most of it

• Adequate planning of the visit is recommended taking into account the time available, prioritizing the places to visit based on your interest.
• There are four visitable spaces: Alcazaba, Nasrid Palaces, Partal and Generalife. The order of the visit must be established taking into account the time of entrance for the Nasrid Palaces, expressly indicated on the ticket, which must be observed, as if it is not, the opportunity to visit them will be lost.
• Free entry to the Place of Carlos V and Baño de la Mezquita.
• The average duration of the visit is around three hours .
• The Council of the Alhambra and Generalife, in order to better distribute tickets for non-organised individual tourism, will limit the number of tickets an individual can purchase each month to ten.

GROUP VISIT

For visits made by a minimum of 11 and maximum of 30 people.

• Groups carrying out activities or visits through different scientific, cultural, institutional or training programs, as well as programs which promote economic and social development, established by the Council of the Alhambra and Generalife, provided that it is an activity of this nature and not within the context of tourist management, will have to confirm one person as responsible for the group and its sole contact person, who will be certified by the Council before starting the activity.
• The groups corresponding with educational programs must likewise confirm one person responsible for the group in accordance with the modality of the program of access. The Council of the Alhambra and Generalife must report this circumstance at the time of communicating the reservation and certify it before the activity or visit.
• Visits by tourist groups , will be supervised by an authorised and duly accredited tour guide, who will be responsible for the group at all times.

CULTURAL VISIT

Cultural visits encouraging proximity between the Monument and society.

CLOSER TO THE ALHAMBRA.

This initiative of the Council of the Alhambra and Generalife intends to bring the Monument closer to society, mainly among the local community, through cultural and educational proposals which promote proximity to the Monument as a symbol of identity and integration, and the understanding of its historic, architectural, urban and territorial values.

Within this cultural program, three types of activities have been organized:

• Program of visits guided by specialists: Led by specialists in different areas which allow proximity to the Alhambra from different perspectives.
• Program of activities for families: With visits led by teachers who are experts in the interpretation of heritage, with new routes both inside and outside the Monumental Complex, where children and adults can participate together, learning and having fun at the same time.
• Program of activities for residents in Granada: Through this program, free access is permitted to the Monumental Complex on Sunday afternoons for a specific number of citizens residing in the province of Granada, for organizational reasons.

CONDICIONES VISITA EN GRUPO

Cualquiera que sea la modalidad del grupo, han de cumplir las siguientes condiciones:

• El grupo debe respetar los horarios fijados en su reserva; el retraso en la hora puede suponer la pérdida del derecho de la visita, debido al aforo limitado de los espacios visitables.
• El número de integrantes por grupo será máximo de 30 personas incluidos el profesorado o la persona responsable de grupo, y excluidos los menores de 3 años.
• Con el fin de reducir el nivel de ruido en los espacios es obligatorio el uso de sistemas de guiado de grupos (micrófono y auriculares inalámbricos) , que permita realizar la visita de forma discreta, salvo las excepciones que se establezcan para determinados programas específicos y situaciones excepcionales que impidan su uso y cuando el número de componentes del grupo no supere las seis personas.
• Los grupos deberán desplazarse por el recinto monumental de forma ágil y respetuosa con el resto de las personas visitantes , siguiendo el itinerario establecido para ellos.
• Debido a las reducidas dimensiones de espacios como el Cuarto Dorado, la Sala de las Dos Hermanas, la Sala de los Abencerrajes y la Galería Norte del Generalife, no se permite realizar explicaciones, salvo casos expresamente autorizados. En otros espacios, podrá considerarse esto mismo si la acumulación de personas visitantes lo hiciera conveniente.
• Cualquier itinerario podrá ser modificado por motivos de seguridad, conservación o celebración de otros eventos cuando así lo estime conveniente el Patronato de la Alhambra y el Generalife.

The authorized guide , duly accredited, the teacher or person responsible for the group cannot leave the group at any time or in any place, until the group leaves the Monumental Complex of the Alhambra or its attached properties, and must above all respect and ensure that this group respects this instruction and the regulations established for this purpose, and specifically:

• Respetar los horarios de acceso a los espacios a visitar y, especialmente, a los Palacios Nazaríes, llegando a la visita con la antelación suficiente, para no colapsar los grupos o las visitas individuales de los siguientes pases.
• No permitir la unión de grupos durante el desarrollo de la visita y, en concreto, velar por el cumplimiento de no mezclar en los grupos personas visitantes de los distintos tipos de entradas que existen de los distintos canales diferentes al de su grupo.
• Explicar en zonas no autorizadas.
• Inmiscuirse en el desarrollo de la visita de individuales u otros grupos ya vayan con una persona guía habilitada, debidamente acreditada, con profesorado o con una persona responsable de grupo. Cualquier situación a destacar se comunicará al personal empleado de control e información, oficiales o jefaturas de servicios técnicos o, en su caso, al personal de información del espacio a visitar en los bienes adscritos.
• Preservar y velar porque su grupo respete, incluido el personal traductor o intérprete que acompañen al grupo, al personal empleado de control e información, oficiales o jefaturas de servicios técnicos o, en su caso, al personal de información del espacio a visitar en los bienes adscritos, en el desarrollo de su trabajo.
• Velar porque el grupo del cual son responsables desarrolle una visita sin incidentes, respetando la conservación de los espacios a visitar, las normas establecidas y un comportamiento que no altere la calidad de la experiencia de dicha visita.

El incumplimiento de esta instrucción y de establecido en la normativa facultará al personal empleado de control e información, oficiales o jefaturas de servicios técnicos, así como, en su caso, a la empresa de seguridad y existente en cada uno de los bienes adscritos, a adoptar las medidas oportunas para garantizar el adecuado ambiente, la seguridad y conservación de los espacios, así como el respeto a las demás personas visitantes. Si dichas medidas fueran desoídas, el personal que desempeña las jefaturas de servicios técnicos y, en su defecto, el personal que ostenta la categoría de oficiales del Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife, tendrán la facultad de poder instar al desalojo a quienes no estén respetando dichas normas e instrucciones. Si este caso aconteciese en los bienes adscritos, tendrán dicha facultad el personal del servicio de la empresa de seguridad. Así mismo, se podrá informar a los organismos competentes en materia de turismo o cultura para que procedan en el ámbito de sus respectivas competencias.

At all shows, Pitbull will be joined by T-Pain of “Buy U A Drank,” “Bartender” and “I’m Sprung” fame. The ‘Party After Dark Tour’ isn’t the only engagement on T-Pain’s calendar this year, though.
