We did the Hurrah Pass Scenic tour the day before Thanksgiving. The plan was to drive our own 4x4 and follow our tour guide, Sean-Paul. But that plan changed as soon as we met him. We knew we wanted to be in the same vehicle as this highly energetic, very personable, and super knowledgeable guide. I don't think you could find a person in Moab who is more educated on Petroglyphs and Pictographs and all things Hurrah Pass, than our guide Sean-Paul.

This was the funniest thing to do in Moab! Danny was an awesome guide he made the tour such a great experience! He is experienced and knowledgeable of the terrain, professional and fun! He also made this fun for my mother who was really nervous to do it but because he was safe and reassuring, we all had the time of our lives! Highly recommend this tour company!

The Xtreme 4×4 tour is done in a modified vehicle that can handle the toughest obstables and can hold up seven people in addition to the guide. 3 HOUR SCENIC Off-Road Petroglyph Tour

Are you looking for something absolutely breath taking with just a dash of excitement? This one is for you! This tour is focusing on the natural beauty and not so much the terrain – although the path is still a fun dirt trail.

Beautiful views of Long Canyon and Gemini Bridges, great for photographers and families of all ages!

You’ll see ancient Indian petroglyph panels, a hand full of Arches, red rock spires and towering canyon walls all along the beautiful Colorado River.

We will make a few short stops to snack, take pictures, and talk about the Moab history.

2 HOUR XTREME Hell's Revenge

Our tours come with the most experienced and friendly guides who put your safety as their priority. We offer the best quality roll cage, 5 point harnesses and bucket seats for optimal safety and comfort. This tour is proven to be an unforgettable experience and safe for all ages. Scenery is beautiful and ride is thrilling! Just because this is short – doesn’t mean it’s boring! This is 2 hours of a thrilling ride up and over the iconic Red Rocks. This tour does not include the obstacles that the  3 Hour Xtreme tour does  – so it might be just perfect for someone who wants an exciting ride – but not *too* thrilling. Hells Revenge trail is a slick rock trail in the Sand Flats Recreation Area. It is a 4 minute ride from our store to the trail head. We will meet and load up at our location and head out right from there. The trail is a word famous trail and is absolutely scenic and beautiful. You’ll see the La Sal Mountain Range, stand 1,000ft. Above the Colorado River, and look into Arches National Park from a distance. Our vehicles are built specifically for your safety and comfort in mind. There are plenty of beautiful photo opportunities on this trip as well as some history about the area! Water and snacks are provided.

Enjoy the basic route of Hell’s Revenge, including “Hells Gate” in this 2 hour tour. This tour can accommodate up to 13 passengers.  All ages are welcome, snacks and water are provided.

3 HOUR XTREME Hell's Revenge with Obstacles

There is no other tour that can compete with our Xtreme 3 hour tour. We cover the most trail and offer the wildest experience for our guests. Our tours come with the most experienced and friendly guides who put your safety as their priority. We offer the best quality roll cage, 5 point harnesses and bucket seats for optimal safety and comfort. This tour is proven to be an unforgettable experience and safe for all ages. Scenery is beautiful and ride is thrilling! This tour includes Slick Rock, Hells Gate, Mickeys Hot Tub, Car Wash Hot Tub, Escalator, Cowboy Hill, Really Steep Hill, and the Colorado River Overlook! These are named obstacles (difficult rated) parts of the trail that no other company in Moab will offer you – not even with a rental. Hells Revenge trail is a slick rock trail in the Sand Flats Recreation Area. It is a 4 minute ride from our store to the trail head. We will meet and load up at our location and head out right from there. The trail is a word famous trail and is absolutely scenic and beautiful. You’ll see the La Sal Mountain Range, stand 1,000ft. With our unique 5 hour experience – you get 2 famous and challenging trails! This includes Hells Revenge and the Fins N’ Things – an absolutely unforgettable experience for all ages. Both trails are xtreme and thrilling slick rock paths through red rock back country. If you’ve had this experience with us or you’ve already done Hells Revenge, we can offer a 5 hour Posion Spider tour or 5 hour Hells Revenge and Moab Rim tour! Please let us know at time of reservation.

Enjoy the entire Hells Revenge trail with all the obstacles and then Fins N’ Things in the 5 hour tour! This tour can accommodate up to 13 passengers. Groups with 1-3 passengers will be in a smaller, private vehicle that is open air. All ages are welcome, snacks and water are provided.

Youth (ages 0-14): $182  + tax

The 5 hour Xtreme tour is offered in the morning and times vary throughout the year according to temperature.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, you must cancel 48 hours prior to departure to receive a partial refund; otherwise it is non-refundable.

If any trip is cancelled due to weather, mechanical failure, or insufficient reservations, a full refund will be provided.

We have 2 vehicles, one seats 6 passengers and the other seats 7passengers. so we can accommodate up to 13 passengers at 1 time with 2 vehicles. If only a few people book for a certain departure then we’ll take a smaller vehicle.

The weather in Moab is usually very beautiful and vary rarely we get storms or monsoons. In the event of some bad weather – we do not cancel the tour up until departure time. The reason for this is that bad weather or rain usually doesn’t last longer than a few minutes.

We will provide (Adult size Small-XXL) rain jackets if it looks like it might rain, but isn’t yet. If you have rain jackets, please bring them along in this occasion.

Yes! All ages are welcome! If your baby or child uses a car seat, simply bring it with you at check-in time and we’ll strap it into our vehicle.

1. 4WD Off-road Tours

An off-road tour in the Moab region is an experience you won’t quickly forget! Not only is it a great opportunity to get away from the crowds, but it’s also a thrilling way to escape into the wilderness and appreciate the stark beauty of Hell’s Revenge up close and personal!

If you’re feeling brave, you can take the wheel of your off-road vehicle yourself and follow your experienced guide. Safety is the number one priority on these tours and you will be fully briefed before getting behind the wheel. Still, driving these awesome but steep trails is not for the faint of heart!

Alternatively, you can share the driving with another member of your party. Or you can also ride as a passenger with your guide.

Hell’s Revenge 4WD off-road tour . This self-drive tour is the perfect opportunity to test your mettle and is one of the most popular tours in Moab ! It allows you to enjoy exceptional views of the Colorado River, La Sal Mountains, and Negro Bill Canyon as you negotiate steep climbs and descents over difficult terrain. You also stop near Lion’s Back to see the fossilized dinosaur tracks.

This tour is suitable for all ages (except babies) and all levels of experience, but the driver has to be over 18 and have a valid driver’s license. The tour takes about 2.5 hours and – in high season – it runs several times a day. Sunset tours are also available.

Backcountry Jeep Adventure . This is a good option for those who want to explore the natural beauty of the area with the excitement of off-road driving, but who prefer to let someone else do the driving . This tour also gives you the opportunity to see ancient rock art and carvings, some as old as 3,500 years!

You get to see some beautiful scenery and can also jump for a swim in the cool waters of the Colorado River. No experience is required and you don’t even have to peddle.

6hrs tour with class 2/3 rapids . This is an excellent rafting tour for those who want just a little bit more adventure. This trip is longer so you get to see more of the surroundings (including Scenic Hwy 128 and the Fisher Towers area) and there is just enough action to make it more exciting.

Full-day rafting tour with class 3 & 4 rapids . This is a longer and more adventurous rafting tour that covers a different part of the Colorado River, the Westwater Canyon. If you are looking for a real whitewater rafting experience in Moab, this is it!

3. Arches National Park

Named after its 2000+ natural sandstone arches – the largest collection to be found anywhere in the world – Arches National Park is filled with wondrous geological formations, including stunning pinnacles and fins.

The distinctive Arches landscape has formed the backdrop for parts of many major Hollywood movies, including classics such as Thelma and Louise, Indiana Jones, and The Last Crusade.

The best way to explore Arches is by going hiking or off-road driving. And there is also a scenic drive with many nice stops that you can easily do in your own car .

A jeep tour is the best way to see unexplored corners of the park. Having an experienced driver/guide is a real bonus. With a local guide, you’ll be sure to see all the important sights and learn more about the area’s history.

Although it’s awesome to visit the park at any time of day, a sunset tour – when the setting sun lights up the red rocks – is truly special!

Suggested Arches tours from Moab

Arches National Park 4×4 Adventure from Moab . This half-day tour takes you away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and into the backcountry. You’ll see Arches’ highlights, including the Tower Arch, the red rocks at Marching Men, and Eye of the Whale. You can also hike the short but steep route to Tower Arch for a better look. But you can see it just as well from the trailhead if you prefer. The tour includes hotel pickup and drop-off. Iced drinks are provided.

Arches National Park 4×4 Drive and Hiking Tour . If you want to get off the beaten path in Arches and explore the very best of the park in a day, then this full-day tour is a great option! A combination of hiking and 4×4 off-road driving , this tour brings you to places that only very few people get to see.

Arches National Park Backcountry 4-hour Tour . This is one of the shorter 4WD tours to Arches NP and is ideal if you have less time available. You can explore the park’s best trails and most scenic areas, but also more remote places. This is a small-group tour that takes just 12 people. Each Jeep has 4 passenger seats and your driver/guide will ask you to occasionally change positions so that no one has the same seat throughout the tour. Iced water and snacks are provided and there is parking available at the Moab office where you meet for departure.

Helicopter Tour over Arches . This is a unique way to see the backcountry of Arches National Park. On this private tour, you’ll be able to see places that you wouldn’t be able to visit otherwise and get a narration from your pilot/guide. Incredible views and a truly unforgettable experience!

4. Canyonlands NP – Island in the Sky

Canyonlands National Park in Utah is another must-see place when visiting Moab. The park is very big and just small parts of it are easily accessible. The Island in the Sky section of Canyonlands NP is just 40 minutes drive from Moab. It is, therefore, a very popular day-trip destination.

If you have a car, you can easily visit the main highlights of the Island in the Sky district , such as Mesa Arch , and many nice viewpoints on your own. However, if you want to get off-road and visit the lesser-known places too, then it’s best to join a 4×4 tour from Moab.

Island in the Sky sits on sheer sandstone cliffs, over 1000 ft above the surrounding landscape. A jeep tour of the mesa top – looped around and under by the challenging 100-mile White Rim Road – gives you a very unique perspective of this spectacular terrain.

Experienced local drivers take you to the very best spots, navigating to the very top of mountains and to cliff edges for sweeping views down into the valleys. The benefits of a guided tour are that you get to see the most popular sights, but also the lesser-known and harder-to-reach ones too!

Canyonlands Island in the Sky tours from Moab

Canyonlands National Park Half-Day Tour from Moab . This 4-hour tour is the most popular option for those looking for a 4WD Canyonlands tour from Moab . It visits some amazing places that you wouldn’t be able to see if you go in your own car. The tour starts on the banks of the Colorado River and includes a visit to Thelma and Louise Point, the Shafer Trail, and the Musselman Arch.

After a stop at Gooseneck Overlook and via the switchbacks of White Rim Road, your driver will take you to see the remains and petroglyph rock art of ancient Pueblo civilizations and explain their history. The tour runs several times a day and includes cold drinks as well as hotel pickup and drop-off.

Canyonlands Backcountry 4×4 Half-Day Tour . This 4-hour tour is similar to the one mentioned above but is slightly cheaper. It also visits all the main sights – including Gooseneck Overlook, the Shafer Trail, and offers multiple opportunities for jaw-dropping photography on the White Rim Road Loop. You also learn about the Pueblo people and the geology of the area.

Canyonlands National Park White Rim Trail by 4WD . This is a full-day off-road tour deep into the Canyonlands. The White Rim Road tour visits the Island in the Sky section, Gooseneck Overlook, Musselman Arch, Lathrop Canyon, and the Shafer Trail.

To make the most of your day, you can also choose to take the short, guided hikes via secret passages into the area’s isolated canyons and caves. Look out for the bighorn sheep as you pass the rocky ledges! A buffet-style picnic lunch and cold drinks are included, along with transportation to and from Moab. If you have a day to spare and don’t mind some bumpy roads, this is a great opportunity to get off the beaten path in Canyonlands !

Canyonlands Helicopter Tour . This is one of the most unique ways to see the vast wilderness of Canyonlands. The majority of the park isn’t easily accessible otherwise, but flying over it, you get to see some of the most incredible landscapes. Majestic canyons, red rocks and arches, and so much more – this tour is a bucket list experience in Moab!

Moab Combo: Colorado River Rafting and Canyonlands 4X4 Tour . This is one of the best Moab tours for those who want to see Canyonlands but also do rafting in one day. This full-day tour combines the thrill of off-roading with rafting. Your day begins with a 4 x 4 trip along parts of the Shafer Trail and White Rim Road, with panoramic views of Fossil Point. You then stop for a buffet lunch on the banks of the Colorado River, followed by a 4-hour rafting experience.

Please note that rafting here is easy and includes class 1 & 2 rapids only. If you want a more exhilarating rafting experience, you may want to check one of the more adventurous trips (see the rafting tours section above or see our tip below). This is a great family-friendly option with plenty of opportunities to relax, enjoy the wildlife and rock spires around the river, or go for a swim. The tour includes all the rafting equipment you’ll need, along with life jackets, a river bag, and a camera box.

TIP: For those looking for a more exhilarating experience, there is also a similar Canyonlands combo tour that includes a RIB cruise on the Colorado River instead of rafting.

5. Canyonlands NP – The Needles District

The Needles District is located in the southeast corner of Canyonlands. It is named after the Cedar Mesa Sandstone spires that are almost everywhere you look!

Off-roading here – on some of the most challenging tracks in southeastern Utah – is no mean feat. But with an expert driver and guide, you can sit back and enjoy the scenery without having to worry about the ‘roads’.

Needles District is a full 2-hour drive from Moab, but it’s worth going the extra distance to be able to see the majestic desert landscape of the area. This is not a place that you would easily visit on your own. So a tour is one of the absolute best ways to explore this part of the Canyonlands.

Suggested tour

Canyonlands National Park Needles District by 4×4 . This is a full-day tour (10 hrs) during which you’ll see the highlights of Chesler Park and leave the crowds behind. It includes visits to Elephant Hill, Devil’s Lane, and Devil’s Kitchen.

You also have an option to hike 3 miles along the Joint Trail. The hike might be a bit challenging, but you get to see Chesler Park Meadows, one of the most scenic spots in Canyonlands!

Full-Day Canyonlands and Arches 4×4 Driving Tour . This is one of the best value tours that cover both parks in one day . You get to see all the main highlights of the Island in the Sky part of Canyonlands as well as some amazing off-road locations in Arches National Park. Please note that this is a more off-the-beaten-path tour that visits locations you wouldn’t easily see yourself.

Arches, Canyonlands, Dead Horse Point . This 8-hour tour starts in Arches NP and includes all the famous sights (many of these places you could also visit by car on your own). From there, they drive on to Canyonlands, where you have two options. One is to stop at all the canyon overlooks, with easy walks.

Alternatively, you can choose to take the 0.6-mile hike to Mesa Arch , which includes a visit to 2 further overlooks. This tour is suitable for all ages and includes lots of opportunities for taking photos, plus several short walks. If you want to see the best, most popular places in both parks in 1 day and with a tour, this is the best option for you.

Day of Photography in Moab, Arches & Canyonlands . Canyonlands and Arches are among the most photogenic National Parks in the world! This 9 to 11-hour tour is your chance to capture the most amazing photos you’ve ever taken! You’ll visit several locations with world-class views at sunrise in Canyonlands. In addition, you also visit several similarly inspiring spots in Arches at sunset.

Your experienced guides will suggest the best photography locations. They will also help you with everything from achieving the perfect composition to the basics of photography (if needed). There is a break for lunch, but you will need to bring your own food. Water and small snacks are provided. This tour involves some short hikes of less than a mile, so you need to be moderately fit.

7. Air Tours in Moab

Given the vast landscapes of Canyonlands and Arches National Parks, it is almost impossible to see everything you want to in a limited amount of time. What’s more, some of the best sights are not accessible by road and can’t be reached on foot. An air tour is a perfect way to take in all the magnificent scenery in its entirety .

Air tours are great for travelers who have never visited the area before or for those who might find it physically difficult to hike the terrain or sit in a 4WD vehicle for hours.

Arches National Park Helicopter Tour . This is a short tour that brings you to some remote parts of Arches National Park that most visitors never see. You’ll see majestic red rocks and stunning natural arches. Because the flight is quite short (20-30 min), it’s also one of the most affordable air tours in Moab.

Canyonlands National Park Helicopter Tour . This is one of the best air tours in Moab! You get to see some of the best scenery around Moab, fly over the vast canyons of Canyonlands, and see some places that are virtually inaccessible otherwise.

Canyonlands National Park Air Tour . After a short briefing, you will board a small, high wing plane, which is the perfect way to view the vast landscape of the Canyonlands NP from above. All seats are window seats, so you have uninterrupted views! Your skilled pilot will share both the history and geology of the area with you via a comfortable headset. At the end of this unforgettable experience, you’ll have the opportunity to pose with the plane for some photos to treasure!

Canyonlands & Arches National Park Air Tour . This is a longer tour than the one above (1h20 vs 1 hour). It takes you over both National Parks. Live commentary via a headset is included as you pass over attractions such as Upheaval Dome, Green River, Island in the Sky, White Rim, and many more.

8. Boat Tours

Moab boat tours are the perfect way to escape the crowds and see the canyons from an entirely different perspective. In addition to the rafting tours mentioned above, there are several other great options in Moab.

As the red rock canyon walls tower above you, you can experience the sound of the rushing Colorado River and enjoy the scenery and vegetation along its banks. If you are lucky, you may also get up close to the local wildlife in its native habitat.

A boat tour also provides some cool relief on a hot day, whether it’s from a welcome spray of water as the boat turns, or from the cooler morning and evening temperatures on the river. Nighttime tours open up yet another realm of sightseeing opportunities, from colorful sunsets to sparkling stars in the inky skies.

Good to know: All of these tours are suitable for the entire family, although children need to be at least 4 years of age.

Moab Dinner Cruise with Sound and Light Show . This is the most popular boat tour in Moab! The evening tour is great for those who want to relax after a busy day of sightseeing. You start this 3-hour experience in a dining room overlooking the Colorado River, where you’ll enjoy a cowboy-style Dutch oven dinner (soft drinks included). From there you’ll join other guests on a large, slow-moving evening boat tour.

As you travel, live commentary is provided by your guide. An accompanying vehicle shines a powerful spotlight on the canyon walls, creating a unique show of light and shadows that finishes with music. Ideal for the whole family, this is an especially good tour for couples looking for a romantic evening in Moab.

Moab Jet Boat Tour to Dead Horse Point State Park . This boat tour takes around 3 hours and includes water and snacks. Choose one of the shaded seats on this covered boat and then enjoy the incredible sights, including a fossilized sea bed, Thelma and Louise Point, and Indian petroglyphs. It’s amazing to see the 2,200 feet of canyon walls from the water!

Sunset Jetboat Ride with Dinner on the Colorado River from Moab . This is a bit of a combination tour of the two tours mentioned above . It includes a cowboy-style Dutch oven dinner but uses a jet boat for the Colorado River experience while it’s still light. This gives you a unique opportunity to enjoy the most beautiful colors of the surrounding scenery at sunset. You also explore the river’s arches, red rock cliffs, and petroglyphs. This family-friendly tour includes live commentary throughout.

Colorado River Speedboat Tour. This 1-hr tour is great for those who want to experience the beautiful scenery of the Colorado River in a short time. The speedboat in itself is also a really fun experience.

9. Canyoneering

There are lots of great ways to explore Moab’s canyons, but one of the most exciting is canyoneering ! Getting away from the crowds in a small – or private – group and rappeling down the canyon walls is an unforgettable experience.

Joining a canyoneering tour means that everyone is able to take part – experienced or otherwise. All the equipment is also provided. Strict attention to safety will calm the nerves of even the most anxious member of your group, while the personal input from your guide will ensure that you feel comfortable throughout the experience.

This is a fun activity where you can learn new skills and see parts of the canyon that you can’t get to any other way!

Best canyoneering tours in Moab

Half-Day Day Canyoneering . This 4-hour, exclusively private canyoneering tour doesn’t require any previous experience . It is tailored to your skills by the knowledgeable guide, who is familiar with all the routes and can pick the right ones based on your skill level. Your equipment is provided and all you need to bring is your enthusiasm! If you always wanted to try canyoneering, this is a great opportunity!

Morning Glory Arch: Half-Day Canyoneering Adventure in Moab . This 4-hour tour is suitable for most ages and skill levels. You follow your guide along a slot canyon’s 3-mile route in a small group of up to 12 people. Rappel 90 feet into a sandstone chamber then take a short walk to a second 120-foot free-hanging rappel, from where you can see the Morning Glory Arch. This is a great Moab tour for families with kids!

TIP: If you are looking for a somewhat more adventurous and exhilarating experience, you may want to check out this half-day rappelling tour .

Goblin Valley State Park Canyoneering Adventure (can also be booked on GetYourGuide ). This is a fun, 4-hour adventure for adults or families with teens (age 10+). After a training session, you rappel down a narrow fissure into the massive Chamber of the Basilisk, which is often compared to a Gothic church. You then have some time to wander around and climb within the canyon, enjoying lots of views from different perspectives. Your group will have a maximum of 10 people and all equipment and snacks are provided.

Moab Canyoneering and Stand Up Paddleboard Combo . This is a great Moab tour for those looking for an adventure-packed day . Your 6-hour experience involves a few rappels and a stand up paddleboard down the Colorado River. You always have a guide with you. So it doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or have a little more experience – this tour offers something for everyone.

10. Mountain Biking

Moab is one of Utah’s most popular biking destinations. So why not combine sightseeing with your love of biking and get away from it all with a unique mountain bike tour ? This is a good activity for the whole family – depending on skill level – and a great way to keep fit as you take in your surroundings.

Your bike and helmet will be provided on these tours. But it’s a good idea to take along a pair of riding gloves too, to avoid blisters!

Best biking tours in Moab

Introductory Mountain Biking Adventure in Moab Courthouse . This biking tour is designed for those with little to no experience, but you do need a moderate fitness level in order to enjoy it. It explores the Moab Courthouse Loop and makes a good introduction to the riding techniques needed for off-road terrain. Light refreshments and snacks are included and you’ll be riding with a small group of up to 13 travelers.

Half-Day Guided Mountain Biking Tour in Moab on Dead Horse . This is a great biking tour for those looking for a bit more challenging ride in the most beautiful scenery. While previous mountain biking experience is not essential, you will probably enjoy it more if your skills are intermediate.

The 10-mile single-track route – exploring Dead Horse State Park and overlooking the Colorado River and Canyonlands – can be quite challenging and strong physical fitness is required. Light refreshments and snacks are included and you will be traveling in a group of up to 13 riders.

Pedal, Paddle, Pedal – Mountain Biking & Packrafting Combo . This fun, full-day adventure starts as you descend by mountain bike over 1000 ft down an old mining road, to the banks of the Green River. There, you inflate your packraft (a floating device for one), strap on your bike, and enjoy a well-earned rest as you float down a beautiful section of the Labyrinth Canyon.

Then it’s back on your bike for another 3 miles ride through beautiful scenery. Pick up and drop off at your hotel is included, lunch is provided and you are guaranteed lots of personal attention from your guide as this is a private tour, for your group only .

11. Petroglyph Tours

Moab’s petroglyphs – an early communication method of carved panels used by Native Americans – give a wonderful insight into the past.

Moab, Utah is a destination built for adventure! It’s a hiker’s paradise and a nature enthusiast’s playground. There’s no shortage of things to do in Moab, and this guide covers 32 activities you’ll absolutely love.

The town of Moab is relatively small, but packs a punch! It’s a fun desert city that truly begs to be on your bucket list. Families, singles, couples or anything in between, there’s truly something for everyone.

Perhaps the most popular attraction is visiting Arches National Park , which sees more than 1.5 million visitors a year. But there’s so much more to do in Moab!

Best things to do in Moab, Utah

Whether you have a day (or two) to spend while on an Utah national parks road trip , or you’re planning to visit this amazing area for a week (or more!), there’s so many activities in Moab you’ll love!

1. Visit Arches National Park

Arches National Park is what drives many people to Moab and southeast Utah. It’s a place unlike any other in the USA!

It’s the home of the most popular arch in the world, Delicate Arch . You’ll see this arch painted on murals, artwork on souvenirs and, of course, on the Utah license plate.

If you want to hike to see the arch, it’s best to go really early as the parking lot is often full. If you’re only planning one day in Arches National Park , this is a must-see!

Delicate Arch is one of the most popular spots in the park, so expect it to be busy. (I got there just after sunrise both times I’ve hiked the trail and the parking lot was nearly full!)

It’s also one of the most challenging hikes in the park with some steep climbs, so make sure to bring water and good hiking shoes !

🎟️ Note: April through October you’ll need a timed entry reservation to enter the park between 7:00am and 4:00pm. Reservations sell out in minutes so plan ahead or go outside the main visiting hours.

While at Arches National Park, you can’t miss the Windows section of the park and Devil’s Garden, where you’ll find the famous Landscape Arch (an easy, great hike).

2. Ken’s Lake

Located just 10 miles south of Moab, this lake is perfect for boating, swimming or fishing. The water is relatively clear and equally as refreshing! Head out there for a midday swim between hiking adventures.

The campground near the lake is rather large, so it’s a good spot to camp for a budget-friendly vacation. Just be sure to reserve your camping spot early if that’s your goal, as it tends to sell out quickly.

3. Hell’s Revenge Moab

This off-road, 4×4 trail will get your heart pumping! It’s a 6.5 mile trail intended for 4×4 vehicles, and only for experienced drivers.

The most popular way to experience Hell’s Revenge is to book a tour. It’s way less stressful that way! Expect spectacular scenery and unforgettable laughs during your tour.

Pro tip: make sure to take a face mask or bandana to prevent dirt from getting in your nose or mouth.

4. Moab Giants dinosaur park (one of the best things to do in Moab with kids)

Well if you’re visiting Moab with kids, this has got to be on your list! Moab Giants is all about dinosaurs! Based on the fact that many dinosaurs where found in southeast Utah, this adventure park is full of history and imagination.

It’s a prehistoric aquarium, interactive museum, dinosaur playground, dinosaur trail and more! You can buy a ticket for the full experience, or outdoor-only access.

5. Dead Horse Point State Park (one of my favorite things to do in Moab!)

This was one of the unexpected delights during my trip to Moab! Dead Horse Point State Park is nestled right outside of Canyonlands National Park (about 25 minutes from town) and it’s truly an awesome experience.

As I walked up to the lookout over the mighty Colorado River, the sight literally took my breath away! I just marveled at the views of the winding river in the vast canyon.

Dead Horse State Park has far less visitors than either of the national parks nearby , which makes for fewer lines and less packed parking lots! So if you’re wondering what to do in Moab with less crowds, this is it!

Pro tip: hiking along the rim of the canyon is relatively easy and provides expansive views round each curve. Just use caution as there’s no railing.

6. Mountain biking tour

Another fun way to explore Dead Horse Point State Park is by taking a mountain biking tour ! You’ll get unique views you can’t find from the scenic drive or overlooks.

Mountain bikers come to Moab for adventures, and this one is sure to get your heart pumping!

Go on a mountain biking tour , which includes world-class mountain biking trails. You’ll pedal and wind through a gorgeous desert landscape with amazing overlooks, all amongst the La Sal Mountains backdrop. So stunning!

7. Rafting in Moab

Let’s get back on the water! One of the top things to do in Moab is river rafting. In the spring months the water will be very cold, but in the summer and fall it’s refreshing and tolerable.

Experience panoramic views of the canyons on a Moab white water rafting tour. From calm waters to class 3 rapids, there’s a variety of adventure on the river for outdoor enthusiasts!

You can find lots of Moab river rafting tours for either 1/2 day or full day of fun! Make sure to wear sunscreen, sunglasses and bring a water bottle.

Created by water and wind, these canyons, like the arches in southeast Utah, are one of nature’s finest displays. And they’re super fun to explore!

There aren’t many slot canyons super close to Moab, but it would make a fun day or 1/2 day trip. Better yet, take a canyoneering tour and skip the stress of navigating the canyons themselves!

Best slot canyons near Moab:

• Entrajo Canyon – 20 minutes south of town
• Furniture Draw – Price Utah
• Little Wild Horse and Bell Canyon Loop – Goblin Valley State Park

9. Horseback riding

See southeast Utah in it’s natural beauty on horseback! Ride the trails made famous in movies or along the Colorado River. The desert landscape is beyond impressive and what a unique way to experience it!

You’ll get to enjoy the quiet away from the traffic of the city and national parks. Most tours are 1.5 – 3 hours, and should be scheduled in advance.

Each time I take a horseback riding tour while on vacation, I find the guides to be knowledgeable and I’ve always felt very safe on the horse.

10. Moab sand hill

Well if you’re looking for unique things to do in Moab with kids, or you’re simply a kid at heart, make sure you check out the sand hill right on the outside of town. It’s right between Arches National Park and the city limits of Moab.

It’s basically a giant sand slide that can be used for sledding or rolling down. Every time I drove past, kids were crawling to the very top and sliding down to the bottom. If you truly want to slide make sure to bring a sand sled.

But it’s not needed and it’s a free activity for the kids!

11. La Sal Mountain Loop Road

Just 20 minutes from the small town of Moab are the La Sal Mountains. Easily seen from various parts of Arches NP and Canyonlands NP, they offer a little different landscape from the red slab rock of southeast Utah.

It’s like you’re stepping into another world when you visit the Manti-La Sal National Forest. The picturesque alpine views of lush forests are a breath-takingly beautiful and a fresh alternative from the traditional sights of the area. It’s actually one of the reasons Moab is one of the best places to visit in September in USA !

The La Sal mountains are the 2nd highest mountain range in Utah. The area offers lots of camping, hiking and fishing, in addition to the views!

Spend a 1/2 day taking soaking in the views on the La Sal Mountain Loop Road. It’s only 60 miles but with scenic overlooks, you’ll want to make stops along the way.

12. Hiking in Canyonlands National Park

It lives in the shadow of Arches National Park, yet has scenery unmatched to no other. I truly believe it’s one of the most underrated national parks in the United States, too.

With hiking trails and views more spectacular around each corner, it’s a must do when you’re in Moab!

Canyonlands National Park is huge, and the section of the park closest to Moab is called the Island in the Sky District. I’ve been lucky enough to spend several days hiking here across multiple trips to Moab, and I can’t say enough good things about it!

Overlook massive canyon walls from various hikes and scenic overlooks. With expansive views, it’s a smaller, lesser-known version of the Grand Canyon!

Here are the Canyonlands National Park highlights you can’t miss:

• Upheaval Dome
• Grand View Point (best views if you hike to the end)
• Green River Overlook

Pro tip: make sure to bring plenty of water (regardless of the season) and wear hiking shoes with lots of traction. Hiking on slickrock is no joke. Here are the hiking boots I wore and they were perfect!

A good hiking backpack and trekking poles are helpful when hiking in the parks near Moab, too.

13. Shopping in downtown Moab

This area of southeast Utah is known for outdoor adventures, so you won’t find big-name shopping stores here. But there are some fun spots to shop in downtown Moab. You’ll find boutique shops full of souvenirs, clothing and sports apparel.

Visiting the shops and restaurants in downtown Moab can be a nice break from high-adventure activities.

14. Kayaking or Paddleboarding Moab

There’s plenty of places in the area for water activities, and if you love stand up paddle boarding, you’re in luck!

Catch views of red rock cliff, dunes and breathtaking views while paddleboarding Moab. You can rent paddleboards and find an adventure on your own, or take a guided tour. It’s truly one of the top outdoor activities in the area.

I personally love taking tours like this because the guides know so much about the area and I feel like I learn a lot more than going myself. Also I don’t have to worry about transporting the equipment. One of the best Moab activities on this list, in my opinion. 🙂

15. Find some fun street art

On your way into downtown Moab, it’s easy to spot the Insta-famous Moab mural. Grab a photo with it, and find other fun, artsy spots in the city. 🙂

You can find artwork throughout the streets of the town of Moab. Be on the lookout in unsurprising spots – like the side of a gas station or car wash!

Make a day of it or just keep an eye out as you make your way around town. It’s one of the most unique things to do in Moab, and is perfect, simple fun for any age.

16. See the petroglyphs near Moab

Ancient petroglyphs are just another layer of artifacts that have been found near Moab, Utah. Perhaps some of the most well-known petroglyphs are the ones located near Delicate Arch in Arches National Park.

The park has them guarded – and rightfully so – but they can be seen from a distance. It’s quite incredible to think that these stories, carved into stone are thousands of years old!

• Moonflower Canyon
• Potash Road (you can also see real dinosaur tracks here!)
• Birthing Scene historical landmark
• Jug Handle Arch
• Wolf Ranch (at Delicate Arch trail, Arches NP)

17. Arches scenic drive

The Arches scenic drive doesn’t actually show you a lot of arches, ironically! It’s actually the main road in Arches National Park. It’s a must to drive the entire thing, even if you don’t plan to hike or get out of the car much.

In Arches National Park scenic drive, you’ll see magnificent landscapes that seem truly out of this world!

Just past the visitor center, your mind will be blown with the majestic slickrock. Then the courthouse towers (pictured above), Balance Rock, and the Fiery Furnace are beyond impressive! Make sure to make it all the way to the Devil’s Garden Trailhead for the full experience.

Pro tip: time your drive right! The park often fills up before 9am during the peak season of summer, so go early. And I’d highly recommend being out of the park by sunset, unless you want to be driving bumper-to-bumper around winding roads in the pitch black.

Speaking of awesome drives, if you’re up for an adventure, try this drive from Moab to Denver with 16 gorgeous stops along the way. Past the red desert landscape of Moab to the east is the beautiful Rocky Mountains. With gorgeous scenic drives and tons of hiking opportunities across the state, it’s a phenomenal vacation for any road tripper!

18. Moab winery

You might be surprised to hear that Moab has not 1 but 2 wineries! Both are located on the outskirts of town, and are easy to snag a tour and tasting.

Closest to town is Spanish Valley Vineyard and Winery . Bonus: they also have a bed and breakfast to get the whole experience!

About 15 minutes outside of town is Castle Creek Winery . This Moab winery offers picturesque views of the Colorado River that you can’t beat!

I was lucky enough to see both wineries on my first trip to Moab, and I’d highly recommend them. So if you’re wondering what to do in Moab for adults-only or even for a girls’ trip, visiting a winery is a great option!

19. Moab Brewery

Let’s talk about another favorite: local beer! The Moab Brewery is the only microbrewery in the area , and it’s a favorite amongst locals and travelers alike.

So after your long day of adventuring around the area, grab some food and a local beer to wind down from the day. Oh, and be sure to grab a Dead Horse Ale, one of the best brews they make!

20. Eat at the food truck park

For a fabulous, inexpensive meal in town, you need to hit up the local food truck park. You’ll find Southwest flavors as well as local cuisine and simple favorites at the food trucks.

I had the best quesadilla of my life while in Moab . Seriously, writing this makes me want to go back. So obviously my favorite truck is the Quesadilla Mobilla , which happens to also be one of the top rated restaurants in town.

Pro tip: Go early! Trucks shut down for the day when they run out of food as it’s a popular destination for lunch.

21. Air tour of Arches and Canyonlands

Seeing a destination from the air is a unique perspective and a totally different experience than seeing it from the ground. It’s a thrilling new way to experience the natural beauty of the area.

There are several air tours in the area, so if you want to get your adrenaline pumping, choosing which tour is the next step. Usually you’ll need to book a small group tour, like 6 people, depending on the size of the aircraft.

• Air tour of both national parks

Just a note about air tours – they can be pricey. I’d recommend putting tours like this in your vacation savings plan and budgeting accordingly. Also, be sure to book them in advance!

22. White Rim Trail on a 4×4

In Canyonlands National Park, there’s a famous trail called Shafer Trail, or it’s larger counterpart, White Rim Trail. It’s a high adventure trail that can be driven, but isn’t for the faint of heart!

Winding roads along steep cliffs take you deep into the canyon. A vehicle with 4-wheel drive is a must for this road, and it’s suggested to only go if the conditions are dry.

If you’re feeling up to it, make the drive deep into the canyon for spectacular views of the white rim. Or, take some pressure off and go with a guide ! They’ll do the driving and you get to do the sightseeing.

By taking a 4×4 White Rim Trail tour, you’ll see parts of the park often overlooked by visitors! You can book a 4×4 tour here .

Oh, and by the way, visiting Moab in the fall will help avoid the crowds. In fact, Moab is one of the best places to visit in October in the US!

23. Cool down with an ice cream treat

I mean, I’m not sure that there’s ever a wrong time to eat ice cream. But after a long day of hiking, it sure feels like the best time! There are a few spots in town to get ice cream, all of them delicious.

I really enjoyed grabbing ice cream and walking downtown Moab. You’ll get a small-town feeling, even though you’re in a destination that sees millions of travelers each year.

Anyway, grab the ice cream. You won’t regret it. 🙂

24. Faux Falls

Located near Ken’s Lake, Faux Falls is just like it sounds – a man-made waterfall. But it’s beautiful and a fun spot to explore. When I was figuring out what to do in Moab and stumbled upon Faux Falls, I was thrilled!

The cold water is refreshing on a hot summer day in the desert after a full day of hiking. From the campground, the short hike is just a 0.5 mile trail along the stream up to the falls where there’s a small pool (about the size of a hot tub) or explore underneath the waterfall as you cool off from the day.

Faux Falls isn’t a very large waterfall and stream, so if you see a lot of other cars in the parking lot, expect it to be crowded.

Pro tip: bring water shoes for this one! The rocks are very slippery and you’ll have to cross the stream in order to get to this part of the falls.

These are the water shoes I wore and they’ve traveled all over the world with me.

25. Rock climbing Moab

Moab climbing is at the top of any experienced climber’s list! The giant red rocks that jut out of the soil create one giant playground for rock climbers.

And if you’re a newbie, guides can take you out on your first adventure. What a awesome spot to try climbing!

Perfect spots for climbing Moab:

• Fisher Towers, 30 minutes from Moab
• Indian Creek, just south of town
• Trisstin’s Tower, Lockhart Basin
• Washer Woman Tower, Canyonlands NP
• Castle Valley monoliths, Canyonlands NP

26. Watch the starry night at the national parks

One of the coolest part of Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park is how dark they get at night. With very limited light pollution, you’re able to see the Milky Way clearly after sundown.

Both of the national parks near Moab have been named International Dark Sky Parks , which means the nocturnal environment is protected. Not to mention the fact that the unique landscape of the parks is a stunning contrast to the lit up sky.

Pro tip: get to the parking lot of your choice by sunset. I saw tons of people setting up chairs and blankets to catch their perfect view. It’s an unbelievable night sky you’ll never forget!

27. Day trip to Goblin Valley State Park

Situated about 1.5 hours drive from Moab, this is a fun day trip! If you’re traveling to Moab and have an extra day to spare, it’s a must-see, especially if you’re on a family vacation with active kids who want to explore.

Goblin Valley State Park offers a surreal and otherworldly landscape with its unique rock formations. It actually reminds me of Bryce Canyon National Park, and the Queens Garden-Navajo Loop Trail – so stunning.

Anyway, the park has an amazing collection of mushroom-shaped hoodoos and intricately carved sandstone goblins. As you wander through the maze-like formations, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped onto an alien planet, making it a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts, photographers and families.

Visiting Goblin Valley State Park is definitely one of the top activities in the Moab area, and a surprising one of natural wonders you’ll love.

28. Stay in a yurt

Alright, this one was just too fun to pass up! The Dead Horse Point State Park has a few yurts available for overnight stays. It’s a fun way to spend a night (or more) and experience Utah’s dark sky parks!

There’s only a few available, so make sure to reserve your space really early! If you’re looking to do a lot of activities on this list of the best things to do in Moab, Utah, I’d recommend not staying here the entire trip, as it’s not very conveniently located.

29. Scenic byway 128

Driving this road was one of the most beautiful roads I saw in Utah. Scenic byway 128 follows the winding Colorado river and then jumps off for more desert scenes. You’ll catch views of the red rock spires of the Fisher Towers and the La Sal Mountain range.

Each curve and turn is a beautiful sight to see on the scenic byway. Take an hour out of your day to drive up and back, or if you’re connecting and heading east out of Moab you could take it to meet up with I-70.

Just before reaching Interstate 70, you’ll see the ghost town of Cisco. It’s eerie and creepy, yet somehow intriguing at the same time!

Just a word of warning, I would not recommend taking this at night as there are hairpin curves, and once and at some point the highway becomes a county road, if you’re heading towards I 70 and so it is less maintained. And there are no services available.

Pro tip: make sure you have plenty of gas, water and snacks as there are no services on this route.

30. Zip lining in Moab

For a high-adventure activity that’s family friendly (for older kids), check out ziplining in Moab! Ziplining is a thrilling adventure, which really just feels like a oversized slide…except with nothing underneath you. 🙂

Part of the fun of ziplining in Moab is climbing the elevation needed to get to the top of the zipline course. Most zipline tours will take you up via an ATV or off-road vehicle, which is exhilarating!

A ziplining adventure is usually a 1/2 day activity, and should be booked in advance to make sure your spot is reserved. It’s one of the most adventurous on this list of Moab activities.

31. Lions Park

Sitting right between the cit limits and Arches National Park, Lions Park is right in the Colorado River valley. It’s actually the only spot in town that I saw green grass growing in the whole area!

Lions Park is a fun spot if you’re looking for things to do in Moab with kids. It has a natural playground and a bridge that spans the Colorado River. There’s an extensive path perfect for walking and biking, too.

With plenty of shade in Lions Park, it’s a perfect place for a picnic or to escape the desert sun.

32. Rent an ATV or UTV and hit the trails

By now you’ve probably noticed that off-road vehicles are a favorite for visitors to this desert town. Well you can rent an ATV or UTV and hit many trails in the area!

White Wash Sand Dunes, Bartlett Wash Road and Monitor and Merrimac Trails are popular spots to go off-roading with an ATV rental in Moab. And of course, if driving isn’t your thing you take a tour with a friendly guide.

Pro tip: be sure to bring a face mask or bandana so you’re not eating the dust!

I have a 22 year old kiddo who is special needs (cannot walk long distances) are there places for her to see and visit considering her limitations? We want to visit Moab in early/mid October. What is the weather like around that timeframe? What do you suggest?

Great list. Looks like the city of Moab the best place to stay to be in close proximity to some of the "big" activities like Arches, Canyonland - correct? How are the temps in June, July, Aug? cold rafting water? Hot canyons?

Yes, Arches is just a few minutes away from Moab, and Canyonlands is about 25 minutes down the road too. It's a great hub. The summer is hot since it's the desert. I went in late June/early July and it was 85+ easily each day. Wear sun protection and avoid being active from 12-4pm and you'll be fine. The water is refreshing at those temps but not super cold. The canyons are hot but the nature of them attracts the wind to cool you down. If you can find shade to rest, you'll be fine. :)

We had a FANTASTIC stay at the Hauer Rock House. The amazing scenery, privacy, and unique house were a welcomed site after a hard day of mountain biking the rims of Moab. From the rental agent, cleanliness of the house to the friendliness of the ranch hands, it was a WONDERFUL experience!

My family and I rode horses with Sena and John for a sunset ride and it was totally amazing. TRULY A PEAK EXPERIENCE of my life. Thank you so much Sena for making it happen, especially at sunset. We are now back in Sweden since a few weeks, We had a fantastic road trip in the US. Colorado (Winter park) – Utah (Moab-Bryce canyon) – Arizona (Grand canyon (it was awesome as you said!) – Nevada (Las vegas) – California (LA, Santa Monica beach) and New York (Manhattan). Horse riding with you was one of our highlights and we really enjoyed the fantastic scenery and your company.

Our stay at your ranch was like finding the missing piece of a puzzle that helped make sense of it all. We felt blessed stepping onto the porch at first light and seeing God’s art slowly come into view in all directions.

For anyone thinking of visiting the Hauer Ranch… My family was there for a great ride last June. The horses were perfect for each of us, with varying level of horsemanship skills. The scenery was amazing. Even the dogs were great entertainment! We all had a great time and will be back next time we are out West! I highly recommend your wonderful trail rides. We had an amazing experience with the crew at red river adventures. It was a 40 min drive up the canyon on a bus and was a shorter and more relaxing float then we expected but still an amazing time! The views are great and water was calm.

Had an amazing day climbing with John in Little Cottonwood and Big Cottonwood Canyons! Tacked on an extra day to a work trip to the area to do this. My first time doing multi-pitch, and first time climbing on rock beyond the limestone of southern Ontario. John was just great, I felt comfortable and confident with everything we tackled, and tried/learned so many new things. So happy I chose to do this, and would recommend Red River Adventures to anyone interested in doing something like this!

It was a magnificent trip on Colorado River! Many rapids, nice guide and fellow participants in the boat.

This section of Colorado River doesn’t offer the most thrilling rapids, but they’re good fun and the surrounding scenery is spectacular. Our guide Molly was top-notch, and we definitely recommend booking the longer float with lunch for two reasons: (1) the longer trip includes the best rapid of the day and (2) lunch was surprisingly delicious - Molly’s signature “Conewich!”

Hike To The Corona And Bowtie Arches

Some of these structures are easier to reach than others, and fortunately for travelers, the Corona and Bowtie Arches are less than a 3-mile hike (round trip) to visit.
