Since cruising is a truly different holiday experience, it is important that we brief you on a few important points: 

• All guests should arrive at the Green Gate Ballard Pier by 2pm on the boarding day. As there is no seating area at the Green Gate, please that you will be required to queue up for embarkation process.
• Pl keep handy your RT-PCR negative certificate (taken within 72 hours of boarding) along with your Cruise Voucher 
• Mandatory is also the original government identification card that you had provided during booking process
• Carry your debit/credit cards as cash payments are not permitted on the cruise
• Outside food, beverages and alcohol is not allowed and must not be carried into the ship 
• We recommend that you also carry your sea-sickness medication/patches 
• Hence please carry your international adaptor (American plug 110V)  Please do not carry kettle, cooking equipment on-board as this is not permitted 
• Don’t forget to bring with you your personal toiletries

Train to Pondicherry From Mumbai

For all the Mumbaikar planning this trip, there is only one direct train to Pondy from Mumbai which runs between Kalyan and Pondicherry named 11005 DR PDY EXPRESS only on Monday, Friday and Sunday. Departure time for that train is  22:13 and arrival time to Pondy is 07:15. The total distance between Mumbai to Pony by rail is 1605 kilometer and it takes 33h 02m approximately. The nearest station is Villupuram and it is 35kms which will take about an hour or more to reach the main city of Pondicherry.

Flight From Mumbai to Pondicherry

There are multiple flights from Mumbai to Pondicherry out of them 8 are connecting flights to Pondy. The major airlines that carry Pondicherry flight are SpiceJet, Indigo, Air India, Air Asia and Go Air. SpiceJet has the maximum number of flights to Pondicherry and the flight fare if you book today is Rs 6854. Of course, if you are planning your trip in advance the fare will vary and you can get good deals on flights. There is also an option to take a flight till Chennai, it connects all major cities. If you end you end up taking a flight to Chennai, you will have to drive until Pondy or take a train. There are 4 trains between Chennai and Pondicherry and it takes close to 4 hours to reach. Another option is reaching Pondy by roadway which takes the same time as railways which is 3 hrs 53 minutes.

Road Trip From Mumbai to Pondicherry

Okay, so this one is going to take long. I hope you have more than one person driving for the entire route or at least a professional driver. It will take you approximately 19-20 hours by road, so plan your pit stops accordingly. If you want to explore I suggest you take a break when you reach Bengaluru and stay the night there and head over to Pondicherry early the next morning. To avoid a chaotic drive you can head from Krishnagiri to Bargur and then to Tirupattur. Take the NH77 highway to reach Pondicherry in a hassle-free manner.

1. Promenade Beach – One of the most recommended and also the cleanest beach in Pondicherry, it is a 1.5Km beachfront stretch along the Bay of Bengal. One can enjoy the serene view of the sunrises at the Promenade Beach or just a nostalgic walk along the beach will refresh you! The beach gets its name from the promenade alongside where to locals jog, walk or just sit around looking at the peaceful sea. Make sure you pick Pondi for your next beach trip !

2. Auroville – It is a township which is also called the Universal Township where people from all castes, creeds from around the world can come and stay here. Currently, there are people from 124 countries stay here. The major attractions in Auroville are Matri Mandir, Auroville Beach, Savitri Bhavan, one can also opt to cycle to explore Auroville. One of the best things about Pondicherry is the self travel facility! You can rent ou bikes, scooters and also cycles to explore the place all by yourself.

3. Paradise Beach, Pondicherry – This beach is situated in Chunnambar which means you will have to take a local boat which will take you around 20-25 minutes to reach the island. Unlike the famous promenade beach here, you will find fewer people as it is secluded from the main Pondicherry town. The beach is absolutely beautiful and the ferry ride is a different experience which I am sure you will enjoy.

5. Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus – If you have a thing for gothic architecture, you must come here. Situated on the south of Boulevard of Pondicherry Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is one of the beautiful churches in Pondy. If you aren’t stunned by the interiors and also the detailing on their architecture, the church has glass pictures of 28 saints who were related to the devotion of Sacred Heart of Jesus. This one I personally recommend!

6. Witness The Sunrise- A visit to Pondicherry is just incomplete without witnessing the breathtaking sunrise at this gorgeous Indian destination. You can wake up early, walk down the Serenity Beach, Rock Beach, Seaside Promenade, Paradise Beach or sip on a cup of hot coffee early morning ar the Le Cafe or the Seaside Guest House to witness a breathtaking sunrise. The skies in the wee hours of the morning look simply divine like its painted in vibrant colours. And you must stop by and soak in the sunrise when you’re in Pondy.

How to Travel From Mumbai to Pondicherry by Train, Bus, Car, and Plane

Pondicherry —also called Puducherry—is where you'll find a sliver of Europe in India. Once a French colony, the foreign flair is still ever-present in architecture, language, and even cuisine (one word: quiche). This southeastern city is 809 miles (1,302 kilometers) from Mumbai , on the opposite coast, but you can travel between them reasonably quickly by plane. If ground transportation (and saving money) is your thing, you can spend a little extra time taking the slower-but-cheaper direct train, a bus, or a car.

What Is the Cheapest Way to Get From Mumbai to Pondicherry? 

The cheapest way to get from Mumbai to Pondicherry is by train. Indian Railways operates a direct 11005 Chalukya Express train that costs as little as $8 but—here's the kicker—takes nearly 34 hours. The good news is that you won't have to deal with messy transfers. The Chalukya Express departs from Dadar railway station (one of the primary and central train stations in Mumbai) at 9:30 p.m. on Sundays, Mondays, and Fridays and will get you to the Pondicherry railway station around 7:15 a.m. two days later. That means you'll save money on two nights of accommodation as well. The cheapest ticket would be for a general sleeper, but second and third AC classes are available for up to $40. Reading up on Indian Railways' class system before booking your ticket would be wise.

To slice off some time from the trip (about 10 hours, actually), you can take the 11017 Mumbai LTT-Karaikal Weekly Express to Villupuram Junction, then hop on another hour-long train to Pondicherry. Another option: Take the 16351 Nagarcoil Balaji Express to Tindivanam, then take a 40-minute bus to Pondicherry. Either way, the trip should take between 25 and 27 hours and cost about the same as the longer, more direct train.

What Is the Fastest Way to Get From Mumbai to Pondicherry? 

Fortunately, because Pondicherry has an airport, lengthy ground transport is not the only option. IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Air India are popular options that offer regular direct flights out of Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and into the Pondicherry Airport. Tickets start around $20 one way.

How Long Does It Take to Drive? 

Driving the 809 miles (1,302 kilometers) between Mumbai and Pondicherry could take anywhere from 18 to 24 hours. This is in part because some of the road is rough or unpaved. Besides a few unkempt patches, it's all highway, flanked by farms for miles. It's not what most people would consider a scenic trip, and because it's not advisable to self-drive long distances in India, traveling by car is not a popular option for tourists.

Is There a Bus That Goes From Mumbai to Pondicherry? 

RedBus operates a 26-hour route from Mumbai to Chennai , where you can transfer to another RedBus or Parveen Travels bus (the former takes four hours, 45 minutes, and the latter takes three hours) to Pondicherry. The trip takes 29 hours at best, not including transfer times, which is slightly longer than the shortest train ride. It's a reliable backup plan for when the train is full (say, around Indian festival times like Holi). Tickets cost, in total, $15 to $25.

When Is the Best Time to Travel to Pondicherry? 

The best time to travel to Pondicherry is before or after the sweltering summer season, which is also prone to monsoons. March and October temperatures keep between 60 degrees Fahrenheit (15 Celsius) and 86 degrees Fahrenheit (30 Celsius). With peak tourism season from November to February, you might find it quieter, too. Note that fog can sometimes affect travel within India in the wintertime. And try not to book bus or train travel around religious holidays ( Diwali , Dussehra , Ganesh Chaturthi , Holi ).

Can I Use Public Transportation to Travel From the Airport? 

Unfortunately, no public bus or train connects the Pondicherry Airport to the city center. A taxi takes about 15 minutes and typically costs less than $5.

What Is There to Do in Pondicherry? 

Pondicherry (Pondy, for short) is a coastal destination known for its rainbow-building-lined beaches and French flair. You can feel the European influence in this area's architecture, accents, and food. But like most Indian cities, its primary attractions are centered around religion. There's the Arulmigu Manakula Vinayagar Hindu Temple, the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, and the Immaculate Conception Cathedral. Pondicherry is also known for its famously cheap booze, so take advantage of the low liquor prices while you're here.
