A scene from the new Jurassic World Tour Live show. (Jurassic World Live Tour)
Lucky OWL reader (and Jurassic World fan) Abbott, 11, saw the show last night and got to interview one of the "dinoteers" (the performers who control the dinosaurs on stage). Let's hear what Abbott thought of Jurassic World Live Tour , then read keep reading below to meet talented dinoteer McKinley Lingham!
"I give this show a 10/10. The animatronics, set design, and puppetry are amazing. My favourite dinosaur was the Indominus Rex. There are lots of references to the movies and to Camp Cretateous (like Bumpy the Ankylosaurus). I think kids will like this show, especially kids who know and love the Jurassic franchise." - Abbott
Speaking with a dinoteer!
Mckinley Lingham is a master of bringing dinosaurs to life! (Jurassic World Live Tour)
OWLconnected: Hi McKinley, can you tell us what you do in the Jurassic World Live Tour show?
McKinley Lingham: I portray the role of the Baby Stegosaurus as well as the ACU soldier.
OC: What is the trick to making the dinosaurs feel/look real?
ML: One trick I use to bring these dinosaurs to life is to watch the Jurassic Park franchise movies. They helped so much by being a great resource to help animate the dinosaurs. I play the role of Baby Stegosaurus, so not only did I look at the movies for help, but I also thought since it's a baby, that meant being playful and energetic … so a puppy came to mind.
OC: How long do you rehearse the show before you do it live?
ML: We normally go through a four- to five-week rehearsal process before we perform the show live. That gives us time to train physically, remember the script, and also work with the crew so that we are on the same track.
OC: Do you get nervous before a show?
ML: Even though I have been performing for more than 10 years, I still get nervous. I listen to music and also do yoga/stretching. It helps me calm my spirit.
OC: Do you have a favourite dinosaur in the show?
ML: Blue the Velociraptor. She was my favourite in the movie, also my favourite color is blue!

Jurassic World Live Tour is a spectacle that brings the magic of the movies to life
By mia johnson | nov 5, 2019.
In an age of streaming services and online videos, Jurassic World Live brings the fun of movies to an off-screen setting. People of any age will certainly enjoy this show.
Bringing dinosaurs to life might have been a bad idea in the Jurassic World series, but make no mistake, bringing dinosaurs to life through props and a little stage magic is arguably one of the best decisions yet. In the Jurassic World Live Tour , you get to see just that, and it’s a bundle of pure fun that will make for a great night out with the family.
Without giving away too much, the show starts out in Jurassic World where the familiar Gyrosphere acts as one of the props for the first scene. It’s one of many little familiarities throughout the production that will put a smile on Jurassic Park and World fans’ faces. From the jeeps to the music to the dinosaurs, the live production really grounds itself in the world we’ve known for over 25 years while adding in a new storyline to make it all the more exciting.
This story takes place in Jurassic World, where a scientist and her team explore the behavior and moods of dinosaurs, with one in particular being her favorite. When things go awry at Jurassic World (as they always do), the team is challenged with finding their missing dinosaur, Jeanie, and fighting off the evildoers who want Jeanie and the scientist’s technology for themselves.
Because of the targeted age group, the story is definitely geared towards children, so you may not feel like you’re necessarily walking into Jurassic World 3 . But it does feel more like a Jurassic World spinoff that you’d find your kids watching on their tablets on a Saturday morning. That’s not necessarily a bad thing because, at the end of the day, Jurassic World Live has something that streaming services lack: live, realer than real entertainment.
Taking my 9-year-old sisters with me, I was amazed at how (at least for these few hours while we were out), their heads were out of their phones and tablets and engaging with a fun, live production. It’s rare that kids step away from the screens to see something live and on stage, and it helps that this show is all about the spectacle.
There’s always something to look at on stage: perhaps it’s two duelers on motorbikes, or an exciting (kid-friendly) fight, or a dinosaur chase, or a character doing a Fortnite dance (which even got a good laugh out of me).
The show does allow photography, and there are some great moments that will beckon you to take out your phone and snap a picture or two. Most of the dinosaurs do a nice parade walk around the stage so everyone can get a good view. You probably don’t need my recommendation, but definitely have your camera out when it’s time for the big one to arrive: the T. rex.
If you are a true Jurassic World fan, be on the lookout for references to the movies throughout the show. It’s something bittersweet that I think the younger fans often didn’t come to recognize (the first movie did come out in 1993, after all). But ultimately, it’s a little treat for the older fans who do remember the movies and how it all started.
So, if you’re looking for a fun night out with your family (or friends) that’s a departure from the click-and-watch entertainment we’re so used to, Jurassic World Live will definitely be a fun experience for everyone. And if you’re like my family, you’ll be putting on the movies and humming the theme song for the rest of the week.
Jurassic World Live Tour is touring now throughout the United States. For more information, you can visit the official website .

Feld Entertainment’s “Jurassic World Live Tour” traveling arena show is in town through Monday with its cast of extra-large prehistoric stars. The dinos look fantastic, at least from my seat on the Amway Center’s terrace level. But I can’t imagine those who paid for the floor seats — and got plenty of up-close-and-personal time with the beast — had reason to complain.
“Jurassic World Live Tour” is faithful to its movie franchise, by which I mean it’s loud and energetic, with a paint-by-numbers plot, cliched dialogue and stock characters.
The science is as goofy as ever. Dr. Kate Walker is a scientist experimenting with a Dino Decoder. It sounds like a plastic toy from a cereal box, but apparently it allows a dinosaur’s brain waves to be transmitted and analyzed to reveal the creature’s mental state, as long as it’s synced properly — like an oversized Fitbit, I suppose.
The script even manages to cheekily work in the franchise’s signature pseudo-science when a character is chastised: “If you’d done your homework, you’d know life always finds a way.” Indeed.
Obviously, none of this has deterred fans who made the “Jurassic World” film one of the highest-grossing movies of all time. The live show tells an original story, but with a familiar outline: The dinosaurs escape their enclosure, someone wants to do something bad with them (in this case militarize them), and a plucky band of humans and dinos save the day.
The children around me, eating snow cones out of dinosaur mugs and sporting dino headgear, ate up the spectacle — which is impressive. The show uses not only the giant puppets, but stuntwork, motorcycle action and even flamethrowers. When one character announced that the Indominus rex was on the loose and bigger than a T. rex, a young boy behind me gasped, “What?!?”
That child proved to be astute. When a villainous doctor was carried off by a Pteranodon in one of the best sequences, my young friend remarked with certainty, “He’s dead.”
Any deaths occur offstage, and the show’s length — about 95 minutes including a 20-minute intermission — means it suits kids’ attention spans. The show does get a little talky at times, but in an inspired move, some mushy human love conversation takes place while two beautifully lit bioluminescent dinosaurs take the stage — and thereby hold the attention.
Jeanie, a mama dino looking for her eggs, is a worthy addition to the prehistoric pack. The human performers are game enough as they rattle off their action-movie clichés: “No, no, no, anything but that!” and the ever-popular villainous “Let’s get this done.” The show’s lighting could have been more inventive to help better focus the audience’s attention, but trust me on this: Your 8-year-old won’t care a bit as long as those dinosaurs are on the prowl.

Review of the Jurassic World Live Tour
A picture from the opening act of the live tour. The dinosaurs were life-sized and even interacted with the crowd (Photo courtesy of Rachel Fearn).
Produced by Feld Entertainment, the Jurassic World Live Tour was definitely an experience to try out. The show was from February 6 to 9 in Raleigh at PNC Arena, with seats filled with fans waiting to see the live-action show.
PNC Arena describes the storyline to be “what happens when your trip to Isla Nublar takes a terrifying turn after the Indominus rex escapes, which requires you to join forces with a team of scientists to unravel a corrupt plan and save an all-new dinosaur.”
As soon as you enter the doors, you can immediately see the decorations and small shops designed to look like the forests seen in Jurassic World. The cotton candy comes with dino masks, green screens next to a velociraptor, and plush animals in pop-up stands all around. Once we took our seats, we could finally see the full platform for the premise of the live-action show. We took our seats and waited for the show to start.
In my opinion, this play would be better if the floor where the play was performed was smaller. Trying to fill up the entire space made it very hard to keep track of what was going on. During a fight scene, voices were coming from left to right with no way to tell the direction.
Another flaw, the live show is nothing like the actual movie. It’s more of a spin-off, despite being presented as “Jurassic World Live.” Therefore, we waited for things in the movie that never happened.
On the other hand, the storyline was actually quite interesting to watch. With live-action fights and jumpscares, the show kept people waiting for more. Another amazing factor was the dinosaurs: life-like and very detailed, they were a definite sight to see.
Overall, the production and storyline of the show were very entertaining. This is a good idea to take younger kids to for sure.

There will be more than 20 dinosaurs in total. The T. rex will be a 43-foot-long full motion animatronic while smaller guys like the Troodon will be suits worn by actors. The experience will supposedly be very interactive and immersive, much more than other typical "live" shows. There's a lot more on the itty bitty details in the full post, though.
