About Bruce Springsteen

Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen (born September 23, 1949) is an American singer-songwriter, known for his work with the E Street Band. Nicknamed "The Boss", he is widely known for his brand of poetic lyrics, Americana, working class, sometimes political sentiments centered on his native New Jersey, his distinctive voice, and his lengthy and energetic stage performances—with concerts from the 1970s to the present decade running at up to four hours in length. His artistic endeavors reflect both his personal growth and the zeitgeist of the times. Springsteen's recordings have included both commercially accessible rock albums and more somber folk-oriented works. His most successful studio albums, Born to Run (1975) and Born in the U.S.A. (1984) find pleasures in the struggles of daily American life. He has sold more than 120 million records worldwide and more than 64 million records in the United States, making him one of the world's best-selling artists of all time. He has earned numerous awards for his work, including 20 Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes, and an Academy Award as well as being inducted into both the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 1999. In 2009, Springsteen was a Kennedy Center Honors recipient, in 2013 was named MusiCares person of the year, and in 2016 was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He married Patti Scialfa in 1991, and the couple have had three children – Evan James, Jessica Rae and Sam Ryan.

UPDATED: Springsteen announces 2023 European dates, U.S. to come

After the Associated Press posted, and then removed, a story on Bruce Springsteen's 2023 tour (oops), Springsteen Inc. has officially announced the European dates for the long-awaited return of Bruce and the E Street Band.

Unclear if "to-be-announced" is today or at some point later for the U.S. dates — check back for more information as it becomes available!

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band will mark their return to the road in early February, 2023 with a string of to-be-announced US arena dates, followed by European stadium shows kicking off on April 28th in Barcelona and a second North American tour leg starting in August.

Said Springsteen: “After six years, I’m looking forward to seeing our great and loyal fans next year. And I’m looking forward to once again sharing the stage with the legendary E Street Band. See you out there, next year — and beyond.”

The planned European stops are Barcelona, Dublin, Paris, Ferrara, Rome, Amsterdam, Landgraaf, Zurich, Düsseldorf, Gothenburg, Oslo, Copenhagen, Hamburg, Vienna, Munich and Monza. Additional cities and shows in the UK and Belgium will be announced at a later date.

These 2023 dates will mark the first live shows for Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band since the conclusion of their 14-month, worldwide The River Tour in Australia in February, 2017. The River Tour was named 2016’s top global tour by both Billboard and Pollstar.

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band last reconnected to perform on Saturday Night Live in December 2020, where they launched live versions of two songs from their most recent studio album ‘Letter To You’ (Columbia Records), which reached #1 in eleven countries and marked the band’s first time recording live together in decades. Last year, Springsteen unveiled his never-before-released “The Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concerts” film, collaborated with President Barack Obama on the book ‘Renegades: Born In The USA’ and reprised his record setting show ‘Springsteen On Broadway’ to help reopen New York City theaters last summer.

The E Street Band’s members are: Roy Bittan – piano, synthesizer; Nils Lofgren – guitar, vocals; Patti Scialfa – guitar, vocals; Garry Tallent – bass guitar; Stevie Van Zandt – guitar, vocals; and Max Weinberg – drums; with Soozie Tyrell – violin, guitar, vocals; Jake Clemons – saxophone; and Charlie Giordano – keyboards.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band Announce European Tour Dates for 2023

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band  will mark their return to the road in early February 2023 with a string of to-be-announced US arena dates, followed by European stadium shows kicking off on 28th April in Barcelona and a second North American tour leg starting in August.

Die aktuelle Tour heißt schlicht und einfach "Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band - Tour 2023". Der Grund ist ganz einfach: The Boss ist seit 2017 erstmal wieder mit seiner berühmten E Street Band am Weg. Start der Tour war am 1. Februar 2023 in Tampa und sie wird am am 10. Dezember 2023 in San Francisco enden.

Wer sein Glück dennoch versuchen möchte, kann das auf einschlägigen Plattformen für Ticketwiederverkäufe versuchen. Besonders beliebt ist dabei die Fan-zu-Fan Plattform von eventim. Dort gibt es aktuell auch einige Tickets für alle Venues in Deutschland, Wien und Zürich im Angebot.

Die Tickets für die aktuelle Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band Tour 2023 kosten je nach Preiskategorie und Veranstaltungsort unterschiedlich. Nicht jede Venue ist gleich gestaltet und deshalb variieren auch die Preiskategorien etwas. Die Ticketpreise der aktuellen Tour beginnen meist bei rund 95 Euro für eine einfache Stehkarte. Steven Van Zandt Says He Never Takes His Nearly 60-Year Friendship with Bruce Springsteen for 'Granted' (Exclusive)

"This isn't an act," Van Zandt tells PEOPLE of their friendship

After nearly 60 years of friendship involving a hit band, a best man and three big fights, Steven Van Zandt and Bruce Springsteen are the real deal.

Speaking to PEOPLE about his HBO documentary  Stevie Van Zandt: Disciple , which premiered at Tribeca Film Festival on June 8, the musician and actor opened up about his decades-long friendship with the Born in the U.S.A. musician.

"You just don't have that many friends for 60 years. I think the fact that it survived some ups and downs, it says something about our nature," Van Zandt, 73, tells PEOPLE. "The nature of the importance of friendship in general, which is what attracted me to being in a band rather than a solo show business person."

Growing up, Van Zandt watched popular bands tour and make music together so much he wanted to create that for himself — and he did.

"We bought the illusion completely. We thought the Beatles were best friends, the Rolling Stones were best friends, The Who , the Kinks. We didn't know they were having fist fights," he says. "We made that illusion real — and I think that's the appeal of the E Street Band to this day, communicating that friendship."

Van Zandt, who's currently touring with Springsteen and the E Street Band , is in awe of their ability to bring massive crowds together after all these years.

"50 years later, how are we still playing to 300,000 people in one country in one week?" he says. "I think we're communicating that friendship, which is real with me and him. When they see us on the same microphone, that isn't an act. Nobody's that good an actor to keep this act up for 50 years."

He continues, "I think that's something that you cannot take for granted."

In the documentary, directed by Bill Teck, viewers get an inside look into their friendship and Springsteen, 74, is featured in a sit-down interview.

Teck, who had been a fan of Van Zandt for years, says it took some convincing to get him onboard for the documentary — and it was ultimately his wife Maureen who convinced him to do it.

"When I became a documentarian and started working in this field, I started trying to convince him back in 2006. Word got back to me, 'Hey, I'm aware of you. No, thank you. I don't want a doc.' And then again, in 2014, after I'd had some success with my last documentary, again, 'No, thank you. We're aware of you.' And finally through his wife, his wife is very influential, Maureen, she finally convinced him to have a meeting with me. And then, he agreed to do it back in 2018," he says.

Adding, "That was a thrill because I knew that there was a story about a truly unique American artist and someone who's touched so many mediums."

In addition to the music, the documentary explores Van Zandt's activism and political involvement — as well as his work onscreen. Most notably on The Sopranos , Van Zandt revealed that he created his own character, Silvio Dante, from personal experience.

"I wrote a whole biography on him. He grew up with Tony Soprano — that was his best friend. And I kind of used my relationship with  Bruce ," Van Zandt added.

Stevie Van Zandt: Disciple  "tells the story of an artist through the eyes of those that saw him most closely — the peers and legends that came up before, alongside and after him," according to the film's  description .

Taylor Swift's reign continues with the latest leg of The Eras Tour. The singer-songwriter kicked off the European portion of her world tour in Paris in May, which will continue throughout the summer. From there, she'll return to North America to tour Canada and a few remaining US cities in the fall. If you're hoping to attend, we've compiled all of the details of The Eras Tour, including how to get Taylor Swift tour tickets.

Swift's Eras Tour has taken the world by storm since March 2023. The three-plus-hour tour features hits from each of Swift's album eras, from "Lover" to her Grammy Award-winning "Midnights." Each show also features surprise songs and occasional guests, so fans never quite know what they're in for. Swift released her latest album, "The Tortured Poets Department," in April, so the Swiftie hype will continue through the summer.

Getting tickets has become its own battle and many fans have waited hours in the Ticketmaster queue to hopefully snag some seats, if they could get a presale ticket code in the first place. While Swift continues to extend the tour, including new US dates, tickets remain hard to come by.

Below, we've put together a guide on everything to know about The Eras Tour, including the tour schedule, ticket purchasing details, resale ticket prices, and the concert film streaming options. You can also peruse resale vendors like StubHub and Vivid Seats at your leisure.

Taylor Swift international tour dates

The Eras Tour international dates resumed on May 9 in Paris. The European tour will run until August 20 in London. UK prices are listed in pounds, and start times vary from city to city. Multiple shows have age restrictions for younger kids and specifics on seating and adult accompaniment. A few venues check that a ticketholder's ID matches the name on the tickets. US dates start in October and can be found under the following table. 

Taylor Swift North American tour dates

The Eras tour will return to the US on October 18 in Miami. In addition to the Miami shows Swift will perform multiple dates in New Orleans and Indianapolis. On November 14, Swift will head to Canada for several shows in Toronto and Vancouver. All North American shows start at 7 p.m. local time.

How to buy tickets for Taylor Swift's 2024 tour

Original standard tickets for Taylor Swift's 2024 sold out long ago for both international and domestic dates. All US tickets and many international tickets were sold through Ticketmaster , although select international locations used different services. 

Tickets for most dates are available on resale websites like StubHub and Vivid Seats . These are generally higher-priced than the originals, which are no longer available. Keep in mind that some countries have rules regarding reselling tickets.

On StubHub, UK tour dates come with a note that ticket terms don't permit resale through unauthorized channels and might not be valid for entry. If this ends up being the case, StubHub notes that its FanProtect Guarantee will cover purchasers.

How much are Taylor Swift tickets?

Ticket prices vary by date and location. International resale tickets tend to be a bit cheaper than US resale tickets. It's worth noting that some of the cheapest tickets have restricted views.

StubHub's cheapest European tickets ranged from $239 (Amsterdam, Netherlands on July 4) to £1,279 (London, England on August 19). The latter is around $1,616 in USD. The lowest prices for most shows are around $250 to $1,200. On Vivid Seats , the cheapest tickets for these dates go for $491 and $1,172, respectively. 

When it comes to North American shows, the cheapest StubHub tickets range from $1,613 (Vancouver, Canada, on December 6) to $2,602 (Indianapolis, Indiana on November 2). Most of the cheapest tickets are priced between $1,600 and $2,300. On Vivid Seats, the cheapest Taylor Swift tickets on these dates start at $1,527 and $2,451, respectively. The two resale vendors generally have similarly priced offerings, but this varies from show to show.

Who is opening for Taylor Swift's tour?

Taylor Swift has a variety of opening acts, from up-and-coming singers to established groups. Opening acts vary by date. For the European leg of the tour, Paramore is opening for Swift. In the US and Canada, Gracie Abrams will be the opening act. Earlier in the tour, Swift had Sabrina Carpenter, Phoebe Bridgers, MUNA, HAIM, and more open for her.

Will Taylor Swift add more dates to the Eras Tour?

Taylor Swift has already added additional stops to her tour due to popular demand, including her US tour dates this fall. She also added additional dates to some of her European city stops, including bonus performances in France and the United Kingdom, among other locations.

During her 100th show, a mid-June performance in Liverpool, Swift acknowledged that the tour would conclude in December. "The celebration of the 100th show for me means this is the very first time I've ever acknowledged to myself and admitted that this tour is going to end in December," Swift told the crowd in a moment that was widely captured and posted across social media. This statement means that the Eras Tour is unlikely to extend past 2024, but we'll keep this guide updated if Swift announces any changes (or additions) to her tour lineup.

Will The Tortured Poets Department be a part of the Eras Tour?

It's good news for fans of "The Tortured Poets Department," Swift's new album that dropped on April 19, 2024. Swift is incorporating several of the new tracks into the Eras Tour, as evidenced by the first shows of her European leg. "The Tortured Poets Department" songs currently featured on tour include "But Daddy I Love Him," "So High School," "Down Bad," "Fortnight," "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?," "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived," and "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart."

Since the Eras Tour is already pretty long, this means that Swift is also cutting down a few songs from past Eras that previously made the tour setlist. The songs that were removed from the setlist include "The Archer," "Long Live," "The 1," "The Last Great American Dynasty," "'Tis the Damn Season," and "Tolerate It."

On Tuesday, July 2, Peter Laviolette’s 2023-24 President’s Cup winning New York Rangers announced their 2024-25 preseason and regular season schedule.

And, according to the team’s Instagram, they’re already back on the ice and getting ready for next year.

“Back on the ice + Back to work,” the squad shared six hours after releasing their upcoming itinerary.

Their first regular season home game won’t come for another three months, though; the Rangers have their first official Madison Square Garden game on Oct. 12 against the brand-new Utah Hockey Club , formerly known as the Arizona Coyotes.

After that, other notable showdowns on their home ice in 2024 include a rematch against their Eastern Conference Championship opponent and eventual Stanley Cup winners Florida Panthers (Oct. 24), the always exciting New York Islanders (Nov. 3), competitive Winnipeg Jets (Nov. 12), bitter rival New Jersey Devils (Dec. 2) and 2023-24 Metropolitan Division runner-up Carolina Hurricanes (Dec. 22).

In 2025, Broadway Blueshirts fans will likely want to keep an eye on key matchups against the Boston Bruins (Jan. 2), Dallas Stars (Jan. 7), Vegas Golden Knights (Feb. 2), Washington Capitals (March 5) and Edmonton Oilers (March 16).

Overall, the Rangers have 45 home games at Madison Square Garden including three preseason contests.

"Fenomenale show van rasechte legende vergezeld van geweldige band": dit was Bruce Springsteen in Werchter

Bruce Springsteen heeft voor het tweede jaar op rij zijn opwachting gemaakt op de wei van Werchter. Vorig jaar diende hij als afsluiter van TW Classic, dit jaar draaide het helemaal rond the Boss zelf. Zanger Daan Stuyven spreekt alleen maar in superlatieven over het optreden en Thibault Christiaensen van Studio Brussel werd naar eigen zeggen omvergeblazen door de performance. “Springsteen is niet van deze wereld. Wat een fenomenale artiest.”

We moeten het dit jaar dan wel zonder Werchter Boutique en TW Classic stellen , dat neemt niet weg dat er – los van Rock Werchter – alsnog een ronkende naam op de wei in Rotselaar staat. Sterker nog, het is dezelfde artiest als die van TW Classic in 2023: rocklegende Bruce Springsteen en zijn E Street Band.

De 74-jarige zanger doet België intussen al voor de 17e keer aan. Nog steeds krijgen de Belgen geen genoeg van hem: de 55.000 tickets voor het concert vlogen in 2 uur tijd de deur uit.

De verwachtingen bij de aanwezigen waren dan ook bijzonder hoog. “Hij is en blijft een levende legende. Pure rock & roll van de bovenste plank. Een vakman die misschien dan wel de leeftijd, maar daardoor ook de ervaring heeft”, klonk het op voorhand bij het publiek.

Kon hij die verwachtingen ook waarmaken? “Absoluut”, zegt Thibault Christiaensen, zanger bij Equal Idiots en radiopresentator bij Studio Brussel. “Het was vanavond mijn eerste keer Bruce Springsteen en alles wat mij op voorhand werd verteld, was waar. Ik zag een fenomenale show van een rasechte legende die werd vergezeld door een geweldige band.”

Ook zanger Daan Stuyven is onder de indruk. "Bruce, de backing vocals, de band, de pianist, de blazers en gitarist Steven Van Zandt: ongelofelijk hoe zijn in elkaar smelten. Zoiets kan je niet bedenken of in een jaartje in elkaar steken. Daar moet 40 jaar over gaan." 

Springsteen stond in totaal bijna 3 uur op het podium. Openen deed hij met ‘Lonesome day’ – “een nummer dat instant kippenvel bezorgde”, aldus Christiaensen. Hij reeg er in één weg 6 nummers aan vast, waaronder ‘No surrender’ en ‘Darkness on the edge of town’, vooraleer hij met het publiek in interactie ging.

Daar ontbrak het de rest van de avond niet aan. “Springsteen is er niet vies van om van het podium te springen en contact te maken met de aanwezigen op de eerste rij. Zijn fans weten dat ook: ik zag verschillende bordjes met boodschappen als ‘geef me een knuffel’ – en hij schroomt niet om die uit te delen.”

Ook Stuyven voelde dat Springsteen - terecht - het hoofdpersonage van de show was, maar dat hij ook altijd de fans in zijn hoofd houdt. "Hij straalde het helemaal uit, maar geeft ook zoveel vriendschap, connectie en liefde aan zijn publiek." 

“Eén vrouw liet weten dat ze Springsteen vanavond voor de 80e keer zag. Een andere vrouw gaf aan dat de geboorte van haar kindje uitgerekend is voor 23 september, zijn geboortedatum. ‘Proficiat!’, riep hij. Een jongetje van pakweg 10 jaar oud wist niet wat hem overkwam toen hij de mondharmonica van de zanger overhandigd kreeg.”

Het waren dat soort momenten die voor Christiaensen de avond extra bijzonder maakten. “Een zestiger naast mij maande voor de show zijn kinderen aan om hem niet te filmen. ‘Ik ga zot doen, bij Bruce Springsteen kan ik mij niet bedwingen’, zei hij. Achter mij stonden dan weer een vader en zoon die elk lied van de eerste tot de laatste letter meezongen. Op die manier wordt muziek verbindend, dat is prachtig om te zien.”

Ode aan jeugdvriend

In totaal passeerden 29 nummers de revue. Hits als ‘The river’, ‘Thunder road’, ‘The rising’ en ‘Born to run’ ontbraken niet. Hij bracht ook ‘Because the night’, een nummer op het album ‘Easter’ van Patti Smith dat hij in 1977 samen met haar schreef.  ‘Reason to believe’ droeg hij op aan Seasick Steve, die vanavond samen met The Blackbox Revelation het voorprogramma verzorgde. 

‘Last man standing’ wijdde hij dan weer toe aan jeugdvriend George Theiss, met wie hij begin jaren 1960 als tiener het groepje The Castiles vormde. Theiss stierf in 2018 aan de gevolgen van kanker. Daarmee werd Springsteen ‘the last man standing’ (de laatste overlevende) van zijn eerste band. “Een emotioneel moment”, zegt Christiaensen. “Hij legde uit dat het rouwproces dat na zo’n dood volgt, de prijs is die je betaalt van iemand heel graag te zien. Je kon op dat moment een speld in het 55.000-koppige publiek horen vallen.”

Geen stemproblemen meer

Afsluiten deed de Amerikaan met 2 bisrondes. De eerste bevatte kleppers als ‘Born in the U.S.A.’, ‘Born to run’ en ‘Dancing in the dark’. “De bastonen van ‘Born in the U.S.A.’ waren zo luid dat ik de organen in mijn lijf van plaats voelde wisselen, maar net daardoor kwam het nummer ontzettend hard binnen”, aldus Christiaensen. Daarna kwam de zanger nog 1 keer solo het podium op met ‘I’ll see you in my dreams’.

In mei mocht Springsteen 10 dagen lang niet optreden als gevolg van stemproblemen. “Daar was vanavond niets meer van te merken. Hij haalde elke noot die hij moest halen en had het publiek op zijn hand. Springsteen is simpelweg niet van deze wereld: ik heb hem de hele avond geen minuut zien zweten of geen enkele slok water zien drinken.”

"Ik kreeg bijna zin om 74 jaar te worden", zegt ook Stuyven. "Strak in het pak en met een naturel die je aan de jeugd moeilijk uitgelegd krijgt. Er was geen greintje slijtage op. Het was bijna kinderlijk plezier dat hij uitstraalde. Op die manier kan hij 174 worden, denk ik."

Christiaensen staat komende zaterdag met zijn band Equal Idiots voor het eerst op de main stage van Rock Werchter. “Ik heb er vanavond eerlijk gezegd zo min mogelijk aan proberen denken, anders kreeg ik instant buikpijn. Het idee dat ik op het grootste podium van België sta, en dan ook nog eens op dezelfde planken als die waar the Boss heeft opgetreden… Dat is te zot voor woorden.”
