I absolutely adore movies, which is just one of the many reasons that I frequently visit Los Angeles. This city is so big that you can't really see all of it in one weekend, or even in an entire week!

That's why I still enjoy taking a Los Angeles bus tour from time to time, especially if it includes unique stops or covers a lot of ground.

The first such tour I took was a fairly standard Starline tour, but after several years of visits, I decided to take a much longer and more in-depth tour the second time around.

There are a lot of different options to choose from, so I figured I would use my experience with these services to provide a comparison and overview of the best Hollywood bus tours available.

In addition to covering prices, tour duration, attractions included, and even various ways to save money on this activity, I'll also include my own personal thoughts on these tours.

If you’ve ever wanted to see the homes of the rich and famous, there are several bus tours that will take you to some of the most notable mansions in Hollywood and Beverly Hills.

Most of these services take place on a small open-top mini-buses which allows them to traverse the smaller, winding roads of these neighborhoods.

The remainder of the the tour is self-guided. Tour-takers can explore sets from "Friends" and "The Big Bang Theory," see numerous costumes and props (including items from the DC Universe and "Fantastic Beasts") and grab a bite to eat or a souvenir at the cafe and shop. Tourgoers rave about this tour, calling it an absolute must for movie fans.

Shopping for previously owned furnishings and accessories at Los Angeles thrift stores can feel like a never-ending hunt. But, as with thrifting for clothing , that’s part of the fun.

It’s true, you may not find anything suitable — but you might find a $200 Nespresso machine on sale for $19 (at the Goodwill in Encino, if you’re wondering). Furniture thrifting requires stamina, as many stores precariously stack tables upon desks upon dressers. A visit that results in nothing can be a disappointment, but hope springs eternal. With new items being donated to stores daily, if you don’t see something you like today, there’s always the chance that you will find what you are looking for tomorrow.

After we published a recent roundup of some of the best places to shop for second-hand furnishings in L.A. , several readers complained about the high prices at some of the stores. We agree: It can be depressing shopping for second-hand furniture when prices are 10 times your rent. But Angelenos have many options: vintage and consignment stores, antique shops, estate sales and flea markets . Though it’s true you will find $24,000 Eames lounge chairs and $3,000 dining chairs at vintage stores, which often stock Midcentury Modern furnishings, it’s possible to score name-brand furnishings for a lot less at thrift stores.

Our 5 1/2 hour Los Angeles city tour begins on The Hollywood Walk of Fame, one of the most famous streets in Los Angeles. Griffith Observatory & Hollywood Sign View

We then venture up to the Hollywood Hills for a 30 minute stop at the Griffith Park Observatory, Southern California’s gateway to the cosmos! The Griffith Observatory is one of the best places in Los Angeles to visit. Here you will get a spectacular view of Los Angeles as well as The Hollywood Sign up close. No trip to the “City Of Angels” is complete without a great picture of The Hollywood Sign!

The Sunset Strip

Then cruise down the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, showcasing all the famed musical venues and celebrity hotspots, such as The Chateau Marmont Hotel where the star's dine & play, and the most famous party site for everyone from Lady Gaga to U2. See The Laugh Factory and The Comedy Store where many famous comedians got their start, such as Jim Carrey, Michael Keaton and David Letterman. Also see the notorious Viper Room, where River Phoenix died and once owned by Johnny Depp.

See the Whiskey A-Go-Go where the Doors were the house band and Goldie Hawn was discovered dancing as a Go-Go girl in an elevated cage, see The Roxy with the members-only club boasting of legendary members, such as John Lennon, Keith Richards, and John Belushi. Next door stands The Rainbow Bar and Grill from the Golden Age of Hollywood where Joe DiMaggio had his first date with Marilyn Monroe.

Beverly Hills

We then enter one of the wealthiest neighborhood located in the westside of Los Angeles. It is home to many celebrities, as well as some of the most expensive real estate in the world.

The Beverly Hills Sign

Enjoy a 30 min stop at The Beverly Hills Sign is a world-famous landmark located in Beverly Hills. The Beverly Hills sign is often used as a meeting place for celebrities and paparazzi, as well as a backdrop for many Instagram influencers and tourists.

Rodeo Drive

As we drive through Rodeo Drive, one of the premier fashion districts in the world. Featuring stores such as Fendi, Gucci, Prada, Valentino, Farragano, Cartier, Bijan, and much more. Rodeo Drive is an LA hot spot with more celebrity sightings. Walk the streets made famous in the movies, such as Pretty Woman and Beverly Hills Cop and take photos at the beautiful Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Keep an eye out for celebrities!

Santa Monica Beach & Pier

(1 hour stop)

Enjoy a 1 hour stop at Santa Monica Beach, where you can enjoy the California sun, take a stroll on the pier, grab some food and drinks, or even play some carnival games! It is home to the Santa Monica Pier, as well as the 3rd Street Promenade, which is a pedestrian-only shopping district. Santa Monica is also a popular spot for celebrities, as it is often used as a filming location for movies and TV shows.

La Brea Tar Pits & Urban Lights

See the La Brea Tar Pits with fascinating fossils dating back to the ice age and see the 202 glowing vintage street lamps once lit the streets of Southern California in the 1920s.

The Grove/Original Farmer's Market

Finally, what we've all been waiting for: lunch! Our 5-1/2 hour tour offers the perfect lunch stop at the world-famous Los Angeles Farmers Market. With more than 100 vendors, including ready-to-eat foods, grocers, and over 45 restaurants to choose from, everyone from the pickiest of eaters to the most adventurous are sure to find the ideal meal. This is a food-court setting, which makes it easy for everyone to choose what they want and still sit at the same table. Grab a quick bite to eat and walk over and check out The Grove before continuing on your tour.
