A good travel jumpsuit elevates your trip in one packable piece. Whether you’re looking for a plane outfit that will feel like you’re wrapped in a cozy blanket or a high-performance-material jumpsuit you can re-wear between washes, the on-trend trouser/top combo always means avoiding gapping, bunching, and wardrobe malfunctions so you can focus on the journey instead.

From adventure-appropriate options to streamlined comfort that will earn you style points, here are the best jumpsuits for travel.

Toad & Co. Tara Hemp Sleeveless Jumpsuit

toad & co tara hemp sleeveless jumpsuit.

Aided by its sustainable high-performance material—hemp— Toad & Co.’s Tara Hemp Jumpsuit is perfect for casual adventures in both warm and cool weather. How? Hemp is a porous material that breathes when your body is warm, but the fabric is also a substantial one that layers well with sweaters and scarves on the chilly plane. The tie-shoulders and simple elastic-waist design make this jumpsuit an ideal coverall for outdoor activities, and it can be dressed up with sandals for multiple wears on your next trip.

Amour Vert Gardenia Jumpsuit

amour vert gardenia jumpsuit.

A perfectly fitting black jumpsuit is the new (and more travel-friendly) little black dress, and Amour Vert’s Gardenia Jumpsuit proves it. This soft, flattering, and wrinkle-resistant jersey jumpsuit became my uniform on a recent trip to humid Asia—and it could just as easily serve as a workhorse garment in any other locale.

Made from silky smooth beechwood fabric that’s carbon-neutral and comfortably cool, the Gardenia jumpsuit’s wrap waist and wide-leg pants feel like pajamas while looking like a million bucks. Go ahead, throw it in your suitcase and change into it upon arrival—the stretchy material is virtually wrinkle proof.

Bonus: Looking for something a little more dressed up? Amour Vert’s sustainable, made-in-America options include the Alizon Silk Jumpsuit . The 100-percent silk number with flutter sleeves literally shines on business trips where you’ll need to dress up a little—or could even be dressed up for a destination wedding. You’ll definitely want to rewear it—just make sure your hotel room has an iron on-hand, as silk is a wrinkle-prone fabric.

air travel jumpsuit

Boden Camille Ponte Jumpsuit

boden camille ponte jumpsuit

Want a modest jumpsuit that’s as comfortable as it is fun? Enter Boden’s Camille Ponte Jumpsuit , which comes in two bright patterns of stretchy, breathable fabric—and has pockets. Fluted sleeves and a zippered back make for reliable coverage, and this jumpsuit comes in petite and tall options for those who have a length issue with most standard jumpsuits.

CASLON Surplice Crop Jumpsuit

CASLON surplice crop jumpsuit

Pajamas on the plane (and on the go) are possible thanks to CASLON’s Surplice Crop Jumpsuit , a stretchy cotton blend pull-on jumpsuit with sleeves that’s easy to dress up with flats and a blazer or go casual with sandals and a scarf. Roomy side pockets and a snap closure at the V-neck make it secure and travel-friendly.

air travel jumpsuit

Patagonia Women’s Fleetwith Romper

patagonia womens fleetwith romper

A sportier, sleeveless version of pajamas on the go, the Patagonia Fleetwith Romper is made of stretchy poly-spandex that’s quick-drying and wrinkle resistant. It has stylish touches like crossed straps, scalloped pant hems, and fun pattern options, plus two rear pockets and a concealed side pocket perfect for travel.

air travel jumpsuit

Everlane’s The Linen Jumpsuit

everlane the linen jumpsuit.

Pretty much everything Everlane comes up with is as sustainable as it is comfortably stylish, and its new linen jumpsuit is sure to be no exception. Linen breathes in heat and humidity better than most other fabrics, and the adjustable, thick straps mean you won’t need to worry about which bra to wear with it—because a slippery strapless is never the answer when you’re traveling.

air travel jumpsuit

Amour Vert Terra Jumpsuit

amour vert terra jumpsuit.

Another sustainably cozy Amour Vert option, the Terra Jumpsuit is about as comfortable as you’ll get in a jumpsuit on the plane. The oversized kimono-sleeve style of this jumpsuit means you’re swimming in cool, soft Modal (Beechwood sourced) fabric. Yet the cinched tie waist and tailored pleating look like you actually put in some effort. This jumpsuit has spacious pockets, and can always be dressed up for more use.

Ava & Viv Chambray Sleeveless Jumpsuit

ava and viv chambray sleeveless jumpsuit.

Plus-size Target line Ava & Viv has no shortage of jumpsuits worth snatching up for travel, but the Chambray Sleeveless Jumpsuit is ideal for its breathable denim alternative that will stand out in a crowd. The combination of zippered back and elastic waist is ultra-flattering, and the wide-leg cut makes it stylish.

Late Checkout is TQE’s travel vertical. Whether you’re seeking an Eat Pray Love moment of your own, or a wholesome family sojourn, we hope you embark on an adventure requisite of a late checkout below.

Our team is dedicated to finding and telling you more about the web’s best products. If you purchase through our links, we may receive a commission. Our editorial team is independent and only endorses products we believe in.

Like most people, I’ve emerged from the pandemic era with a newfound zeal for travel– and loungewear. While my family will attest that I’ve spent the better part of my life traveling in what some may refer to as pajamas, I took it upon myself to level up my travel wear game and not look like That American Tourist on my recent trip to Italy. The answer? Travel jumpsuits.

Why jumpsuits? Jumpsuits are sophisticated onesies for adults. Traveling in the right jumpsuit is like moving through the world in your own cocoon of comfort, with no sacrifices made. If you find yourself sprinting from Terminal Four to Terminal One in the Madrid airport? No problem, jumpsuits have the best range of motion. Need some shut-eye? You’re set for success (as noted above, the jumpsuit is part of the onesie family tree). Best of all, rocking a travel jumpsuit means you always look put together— with minimal effort involved. There will be no changing in the bathroom for you when you get where you’re going.

Behold some of my favorite travel jumpsuits that belong in your suitcase.

Brooklyn Heights Wide Leg Jumpsuit

There’s no brand I trust more than Athleta when I’m hanging out in down dog or trekking through the woods. It comes as no surprise then that the athleisure brand makes a killer travel jumpsuit. Meet the Athleta Brooklyn Heights Wide Leg Jumpsuit ($139): it’s light-as-air, skims over your body, and is just as posh as its neighborhood namesake.

air travel jumpsuit

Everything about the Spanx AirEssentials Jumpsuit says Point me towards business class. Made with drapey, luxurious fabric, this jumpsuit is truly elegant– and professional. It’s a must-have for business trips, whether you’re hopping on the commuter train or jet-setting off to a conference.

Faux Leather Cami Catsuit

If, like me, you never pictured yourself traveling in faux leather anything, I implore you to imagine greater possibilities for yourself. Namely, the Commando Faux Leather Cami Catsuit. Its firming, light compression fabric is smoothing and ultra-flattering, hugging your body in the best possible way. Thanks to its four-way stretch, this catsuit feels like it was sculpted for you personally. It’s the best piece to have for those times (like your best friend’s bachelorette weekend) when your bustling itinerary starts the exact moment you land. Pair it with a sharp blazer, swap your sneakers for a set of heels, and you’ll be ready for anything.

air travel jumpsuit

Free People

Jet Set Life Jumpsuit

While cozy typically brings to mind winter knits, The Free People Jet Set Life Jumpsuit is cozy in its own ethereal, California-cool way. With a scoop neckline, Henley-T features, and an exaggerated wide-leg shape, this jumpsuit is all about casual comfort. It also stands out for its adaptability: you can easily wear it to the beach, but it pairs well with a sweater until you get there.

air travel jumpsuit

Amelia Recycled Travel Jumpsuit, in Black

There are plenty of reasons to love the Brunno Co Amelia Recycled Travel Jumpsuit. For starters, it looks effortlessly chic. What makes it even better is that Brunna Co is a brand you can feel good about sporting: it’s sustainable, engages in ethical working practices, and is woman-owned. Plus, the jumpsuit is made from certified recycled fabric made from plastic water bottles— not that it feels like it!

air travel jumpsuit

Buttercream Phantom Grey Clement Jumpsuit

Made from cotton and linen, the Joie Clement Jumpsuit is extremely breathable, making it an optimal pick for summertime travel. Paired with simple sandals and a plain tee, it’s a perfect no-fuss outfit that has plenty of classic feminine charm.

air travel jumpsuit

Spiritual Gangster

Ballet Rib Jumpsuit in Heather Ash

It is as if the kind people of Spiritual Gangster heard me plead, Joggers, but make it fashion when they made the Ballet Rib Jumpsuit. The soft ribbed material is soft enough to sleep in, and the smock waist elevates the piece into an outfit. You’ll throw it on without thinking— and be glad later that you did.

air travel jumpsuit

Frank & Eileen

Ireland, Long-Sleeve Playsuit, Black

The Frank & Eileen Ireland Long-Sleeve Playsuit is a piece to invest in: made from beautiful Italian performance linen that comes in several rich, earthy, natural tones, the playsuit is worth its price tag. The shorts and long-sleeve combo is fun, flattering, and well-suited for warm-weather travel. Of course, this piece should hardly be restricted to vacation time; it can become a cornerstone of your everyday wardrobe.

air travel jumpsuit

Women's Garden Island Lightweight Jumpsuit

Our favorite travel pieces are meant to handle the wear of adventure, and no brand understands that quite like Patagonia. That’s why the Garden Island Jumpsuit is made from durable plain-weave fabric. Loose and breathable, it’s one of the best jumpsuits to pack if you’re headed somewhere humid.

35 Best Women's Loungewear Sets to Pack on Your Next Trip

35 Best Women's Loungewear Sets to Pack on Your Next Trip

All products featured on Condé Nast Traveler are independently selected by our editors. However, when you buy something through our retail links, we may earn an affiliate commission.

Some may argue that traveling by plane is an occasion to dress up, but for most of us at Traveler, comfort is the main priority when planning a transit day ensemble: You want something loose enough that you won't need to readjust (or worse, unbutton) a few hours into a flight or road trip, but put-together enough to feel that you've made a switch out of pajamas and into a true outfit. Luckily, there is no shortage of loungewear sets these days.

Read on for 35 of the best loungewear sets to add to your travel wardrobe , many of which are sitting in our editors' dresser drawers. From upscale sweatsuits to cozy cashmere knits, they'll keep you comfy whether you're sitting on a plane, train, or in the passenger seat, and will get a re-wear on lazy vacation days when the only item on your to-do list is lounging around the Airbnb .

This article has been updated with new information since its original publish date. Additional reporting by Meaghan Kenny.

The Aerie LumberJane collection has been one of the brand's more popular releases. The collection features breathable, lightweight waffle fabric in shirts, shorts, and now polos. The LumberJane polo and short set are perfect for lazy vacation days spent shuffling around in your slippers . Each piece has raw seams along the sleeves, sides, and back that gives it a more lived-in look.

Buck Mason is at the forefront of elevated essentials. The Vintage Interloop set features an oversized crew that has a relaxed fit all around and thinly ribbed stiching on the cuffs to give more structure to the slouchy sleeves. The French terry sweatpants are slimming and so comfortable. Each set looks slightly different than the other, thanks to Buck Mason's Venice Wash technique that creates its cool, vintage look.

We're always raving about Girlfriend Collective, a size-inclusive, sustainably- and ethically-made brand. This set is made from half recycled, half organic cotton. They're available in your classic neutral colors, as well as this rich wine hue.

air travel jumpsuit

Kim Kardashian's shapewear and loungewear brand Skims never misses when it comes to cozy sets. The Cotton Fleece collection is a more sporty take on classic loungewear. The soft fleece shorts have an interior drawstring at the waist for a more customizable fit.

Image may contain: Clothing, Long Sleeve, Sleeve, Fleece, Knitwear, Sweater, and Sweatshirt

This chic pullover and sweat shorts both don the recognizable Alexander Wang logo. While the set is one of the trendiest pieces on our list, you'll be pleasantly surprised at just how soft the heavy brushed cotton terry is. Style the set with a small crossbody bag and pair of chunky dad sneakers for quick errands or walks around the city.

Image may contain: Clothing, Pants, Home Decor, Linen, Adult, Person, Accessories, Jewelry, Necklace, and Pajamas

You can never go wrong with a simple high-waisted pant and tank top combo. The Anrabess sleeveless set is lightweight and thin, making it supremely packable in any weekender bag or carry-on. At just $30, it is one of the most affordable loungewear sets on our list.

Image may contain: Clothing, Pants, Adult, Person, Dress, Formal Wear, and Fashion

Is there anything easier than throwing on a jumpsuit? Spanx AirEssentials jumpsuit is one of the brand's bestsellers—and it's just been restocked in more colors. We love the drawstring tie at the waist that gives the jumpsuit a more fitted and flattering look.

Image may contain: Clothing, Long Sleeve, Sleeve, Knitwear, Sweater, Sweatshirt, and Pants

Traveler 's commerce producer, Paris Wilson , swears by Roots' loungewear. “I've been raving about Roots for years. It's hard to find a brand that doesn't skimp on quality,” she says. The Luxe Crew and Pintuck pant are made from a cotton and cashmere blend. While the material gives it a more chic look, the fit of the set is more relaxed and loose. This can easily be dressed up or down, and would look great with a sleek pair of white sneakers .

Image may contain: Clothing, Long Sleeve, Sleeve, Adult, Person, Shorts, Knitwear, Sweater, and Sweatshirt

The loose fit of the Ramona sweatshirt compliments the brand's drawstring waist Jane shorts. The rouched terry fabric on the inside of each garment keeps you warm and cozy without overheating. As warmer days approach, the yellow dip-dye design is a must-have for your spring and summer wardrobe .

Image may contain: Fashion

If you're looking for a more polished look, the Malibu set is for you. The set is made up of the Frank & Eileen Audrey Capelet and the Catherine Sweatpant . Each piece is made from 100 percent cotton triple fleece, making it incredibly soft. It's the perfect set for a long road trip or a chilly plane.

Image may contain: Clothing, Shorts, Tank Top, and Vest

The Cool Stretch collection from Pact is made from breathable organic cotton. The soft, thin layers are a go-to summer fit when temperatures are high and you just want to chill inside. The tank top and shorts set comes in seven colorways and can be paired with Pact's Airplane cardigan or a cozy hoodie .

air travel jumpsuit

If you prefer something a little more roomy, the Oversized Tee and Harem Pant set from This is J is for you. It’s perfect for long-haul flights and road trips where comfort is at the top of your list, but you don’t want to step out in your pajamas. The soft, moisture-wicking fabric will keep you dry and comfortable whether you’re snuggled up on a train or plane.

air travel jumpsuit

This set is made for cold weather. The thick fabric will keep you warm and toasty whether you’re hanging inside with friends or out sightseeing. The top has a dropped shoulder sleeve that looks more oversized while the pants feature a wide-leg with a drawstring waist.. The set comes in 10 solid colors that are easy to pair with a slip-on sneaker or Ugg boots .

air travel jumpsuit

The soft ribbed knit of the Muse hoodie and sweatpant offers a lot of dimension to the duo. The set is lightweight enough that it can be worn over workout clothes without any bulkiness. The high-waisted joggers pair well with the cropped hoodie and offer a more chic silhouette.

air travel jumpsuit

You’ll be comfortable from head to toe with this ultra-soft pullover and pant set. The pants have a classic ‘70s wide-leg silhouette accompanied by an elastic waistband, while the pullover has a polo-inspired collar and a slightly cropped hem. An all-white set never goes out of style and will look great with a white sneaker .

air travel jumpsuit

The name tells you everything you need to know. The Coziest Cashmere Blend hoodie and jogger are ultra-soft. The fabric is warm yet breathable and the fact that it’s a blend gives you peace of mind that it won’t be ruined in the washing machine.

air travel jumpsuit

Traveler editors swear by Lunya's washable silk pajamas and cashmere Travel Set . The brand’s Silksweats complete its holy trinity of comfort. With a sherpa interior and thermoregulating abilities, you'll be comfortable without overheating in this set. Bonus: Both pieces are reversible so you can have two looks for one.

air travel jumpsuit

There's something to be said for a zip-up sweatshirt, even if they've largely been replaced by pullovers of late. For one, if your temperature flips from chilly to warm, you can regulate without bothering your seatmate while trying to take off your hoodie. We're a fan of the sweatpants, too: the deep pockets, cuffed ankles, and cashmere fabric are all plusses.

air travel jumpsuit

A new addition to OV's ultra-soft, lightweight, and durable CloudKnit line-up : this boxy T-shirt with a slightly cropped fit. It comes in charcoal, navy, mocha, fog white, and jasmine blue, all of which will match your go-to black leggings or joggers .

air travel jumpsuit

Awarded one of Oprah's Favorite Things in 2020, I was eager to put on Cozy Earth's ultra-soft joggers, and am happy to report they lived up to the hype. Made of a mix of premium viscose from bamboo, acrylic, and spandex, they're smooth and cool to the touch, and have a loose but not baggy fit. I've worn them a ton on WFH days, and would happily fly in them. Snag a matching pullover if you like the matching set look.

air travel jumpsuit

San Francisco–based Quince launched a maternity collection, which includes a nursing-friendly long sleeve and lounge joggers with an adjustable drawstring waistband. All of the collection's pieces are made with renewable materials like Tencel lyocell, a biodegradable fiber made from wood pulp; mulberry silk, a hypoallergenic and thermoregulating fabric; the company's SuperSoft fabric, a blend of recycled polyester and tencel; and sustainably- and humanely-sourced Mongolian cashmere.

Outdoor Voices’ All Day hoodie and sweatpants set really is made to wear from dusk to dawn. It aims to be the softest pair of sweats you will ever wear, and stacks up, with a CloudKnit fabric that feels as cozy as your most worn-in pair of pajamas. The sweatpants are high-rise and more fitted toward the bottom to give the most flattering look possible, too. The pieces can be bought individually and come in six different colors, from neutral charcoal to a rich Kalamata purple.

Image may contain: Suit, Coat, Clothing, Overcoat, Apparel, Standing, Human, and Person

While former Traveler editor Jessica Puckett's favorite cashmere set has since sold out, Cuyana's Pima outfit is another great option for plane travel and lounging, particularly in warmer environments, as the material is soft, smooth, and breathable.

Image may contain: Clothing, Sleeve, Apparel, Long Sleeve, Shorts, Human, and Person

Former Traveler editor Corina Quinn turned us on to Vuori's DreamKnit Collection hoodie and jogger set. “The DreamKnit feels like a cloud—it's so soft and cozy, yet lightweight, so you don't get too hot or too cool in them,” she says. “On top of that, because there are a few different models of jogger pants and tops, my friends and I have all found a model that's flattering for us.” For a pair of sweats that make you feel like you’re wearing a real outfit without actually doing so, Vuori’s unbelievably soft, stretchy sets are an easy pick.

Image may contain: Clothing, Apparel, Pants, Khaki, Home Decor, and Linen

Friend + Folk is a size- and gender-inclusive brand that prioritizes a limited carbon footprint, and puts it into practice by way of free carbon neutral shipping, recyclable and plastic-free packaging, limited batch-production, and more. The Joon joggers are a favorite—the fit is roomy and comfortable yet still tailored, and the zippered pockets are ideal for stashing AirPods, lip balm, and other odds and ends without worrying they'll fall out as you dash through the airport. Pair them with the Perry pullover and you've got a new airport uniform.

Image may contain: Clothing, Sleeve, Apparel, Long Sleeve, Human, and Person

Lululemon may be best known for its leggings and workout wear, but don't skip over the brand's loungewear. This set is made out of a smooth Softstreme material that is stretchy and feels smooth against your skin. It's a great loungewear set to wear if you run hot.

air travel jumpsuit

We love this Madewell number, made of a fleece-like Superbrushed terry fabric. Wide legs and a loose fit make it just the kind of thing we want to wear on long travel days, and the patch pockets are much appreciated. Since it does have tank top-style straps, bring a cardigan or other added layer for the plane.

air travel jumpsuit

Some loungewear is better suited for inside wear, like this cozy ribbed shorts set. Wear the pullover, with its bell sleeves and slit in the back, over leggings for long-haul flights. The stretchy shorts have a fairly short inseam, so they'll likely be more comfortable as a sleeping short or loungewear piece to change into when you arrive at your hotel or rental house.

Image may contain: Clothing, Suit, Overcoat, Apparel, Coat, Human, and Person

This two-piece set might be the closest thing to sleepwear on this list, and yet is still cute enough to feel confident while wearing through the airport. It comes in a dozen colors, from basic heather gray to bold indigo blue, and pairs slouchy, relaxed fit pants with a scoop-neck button-up henley.

Image may contain: Clothing, Sleeve, Apparel, Long Sleeve, Human, Person, Standing, and Pants

Sure, all sweatpants are designed to be comfortable, but the cotton, modal, and spandex fabric Knix uses takes things up a notch. The smooth, cooling, and slightly stretchy fabric feels fantastic against skin and looks a bit more put-together than typical sweatpant material.

Image may contain: Clothing, Apparel, Dress, Human, Person, and Pants

Most loungewear tends to follow the same cut, so we appreciate Monos, a luggage brand , shaking things up when delving into clothing. This set is as soft as any sweatpants out there, with a mid-length wide-leg pant and a short sleeve V-neck tee that's just slightly cropped.

Image may contain: Clothing, Apparel, and Pants

Anything labeled Signaturesoft nails both the rest day and flying-comfortably mood we're going for. The top and bottom have a streamlined shape and the sweatpants are tapered at the ankle. Both pieces are made of a comfortable rayon, acrylic, and spandex mix, so you’ll feel cozy while still looking put together. The sweatshirt and sweatpants can be purchased individually and come in nearly a dozen colors should you want to mix and match, and the sweatshirt passes the video-conferencing-chic test, in that it looks more like a standard sweater than workout wear.

Image may contain: Clothing, Apparel, Pajamas, Human, and Person

Not a hoodie person? You might like this cowl-neck top, which comes with cropped pants, both made of a super soft jersey and spandex fabric. Shop the set in gray, sky blue, strawberry, or buttercream, and wear it on your next overnight flight to feel like you're in pajamas.

Image may contain: Clothing, Apparel, Footwear, Shoe, Human, Person, Suit, Coat, Overcoat, Sleeve, and Long Sleeve

You may never want to put on pajamas again after wearing Softwear's Lounge Set. The fabric is buttery soft inside and out. Both the pullover and joggers are tailored and fitted with a clean silhouette—the top could pass for a normal sweater—while still being ultra soft. Plus, it’s long-lasting: The sustainable fabric is pilling-resistant and made to keep its shape after every wear.

air travel jumpsuit

Made for pregnant or nursing moms, this Everly Grey set is designed to fit a baby bump and make nursing easier with side openings on the top. Made of stretchy fabric with cuffed ankles and wrists and pockets on the hips, it's a loose, ever-so-slightly tailored look you'll wear again and again. Order it in one of four neutral colors: black, charcoal, oyster pink, or denim blue.

Looking effortlessly streamlined during your travels doesn’t have to be complicated — simply invest in a jumpsuit. The influencer-approved uniform of choice comes in numerous variations and fits for everything from convenient travels to high-intensity workouts. You’ve got your body-hugging catsuit jumpsuits, your military-inspired denim jumpsuits, and even formal jumpsuits to help you look put together yet super comfortable for a destination wedding at a remote estate. The best part? You can find jumpsuits for women in a variety of performance-driven fabrics to help absorb sweat whether you’re heading to tropical locales or hitting your step count on the hotel treadmill.

When choosing the perfect jumpsuit, your dollar will stretch much farther if you look for helpful features like pockets and built-in cups for extra chest support to adjustable straps for a customized fit and waistbands that create a cinched silhouette. We scoured the internet for the best jumpsuits for women from some of our all-time favorite brands like Alo and Lululemon, and you can shop them all right here.

Best Overall

Lululemon align bodysuit 25".

It’s made of the brand’s softest, barely-there material and contours the body like shapewear.

It doesn’t have pockets and bustier folks might have trouble finding the right size.

There’s so much to love about this Lululemon jumpsuit. Coming in the most buttery Nulu fabric the brand makes — a blend of performance-driven nylon and stretchy elastane — you’ll be able to wear it for hours on the plane, train, or in the car without feeling like you’re wearing anything at all. It comes in three different inseams to prevent that dreaded bunching at the ankles and it’s got built-in cups for light support (going braless is a must here in order to reap the full benefits of the sultry scoop back detail).

Chest cups A and B will fit sizes 0 to 14 while C and D cups can wear sizes 16 to 20. The low scoop back is what makes this bodysuit from the Align line iconic — all you need is a pair of dad shoes and an oversized pair of sunnies to complete the look.

The Details: 0 to 20 | Nylon and elastane

Best Budget

Qinsen long sleeve jumpsuit.

The neckline is incredibly flattering and the material is lined.

It runs short.

If you don’t have a ton to spend but still want to look streamlined and snatched, don’t miss this sweet deal on a body-shaping jumpsuit. It features a unique silhouette with a flattering square neckline, long sleeves for extra coverage (which helps offset that body-hugging fit) and an on-trend flared hemline — all in a moisture-wicking and stretchy fabric to move with your body no matter what’s on the itinerary. Whether you opt for coffee brown or olive green, you’ll have no problems finding any and every occasion to wear this travel wardrobe staple all throughout the year.

The Details: S to XL | Nylon and spandex

Best Splurge

Alice + olivia nova cape jumpsuit.

It comes with a detachable cape, which is the epitome of luxury and practicality.

It’s dry clean only and doesn’t feature pockets.

Ignore the price tag for a second, and look at all you’re getting here: a sleek and versatile black jumpsuit stylish enough for all the nightlife your destination has to offer, plus a detachable cape that drapes effortlessly off your body, complete with padded shoulders for a structured girl boss look.

The jumpsuit features a smocked back for a stretchy and comfortable fit along with a zipper closure to facilitate on and off. With a timeless and elegant square neck and straps that aren’t too revealing, this luxurious jumpsuit and cape duo is the perfect outfit to pack when you’re looking to get sent straight to the VIP lounge or upgraded to business class.

The Details: 0 to 14 | Polyester and elastane

Best Size-inclusive

Ivy city co. madeline jumpsuit.

It’s a fun yet versatile print and happens to be nursing-friendly.

If you’re looking to steer away from festive prints, go with something else.

This pretty plaid jumpsuit is a plus-sized shopper’s dream. Not only is the whole shopping experience incredibly accessible — from the extended sizing up to 5X to the real-life outfit try-on on a plus-size model complete with her measurements — the silhouette will keep you comfortable and confident all day long. It features a flattering smocked chest, a square neckline and elastic waistband, nap-dress inspired three-quarter sleeves to accommodate your travels in climates of all kinds, and generously sized pockets for ultimate convenience.

While the print definitely leans festive (and no one’s complaining about that!), it’s suitable for anything from spring jaunts in romantic Paris to fall trips in bustling NYC. Ruffled details add an extra dose of visual interest while straight leg hems that hit just above the ankle allow you to style it with your favorite flats or ankle boots.

Best Sustainable

Everlane the structured cotton jumpsuit.

It’s the perfect go-anywhere jumpsuit you can dress up or down.

It’s extremely minimalist, so it requires additional accessories to liven it up.

Adding to our already-stuffed wardrobes isn’t doing much for the planet, but jumpsuit purchases like these ease the sting just enough to make it worth the buy. Because the cotton incorporated in this structured-yet-stretchy jumpsuit was grown on U.S. soil, it’s said to use seeds that boast higher efficiency than other varieties, which can help promote a more sustainable ecosystem and stabilized climate.

Now that you know how it’s going to make you feel good, how’s it going to make you look? This jumpsuit is nothing short of CEO-worthy with its subtle V-neck, pockets fit for a power stance, a lined bodice for ample coverage, and a straight leg that means business.

The Details: 00 to 16 | Cotton and elastane

Best Romper

Bebe belted long sleeve satin blazer romper.

It’s both slinky and structured at the same time.

The plunge neck might be too low for comfort for bustier wearers.

Not sure what to wear out on your dinner date, or looking for a modern take on the little black (or pink) dress? Look no further than this absolute stunner of a romper that incorporates structured blazer details like notched lapels and a silky satin material with a much-needed dash of stretch.

The removable and adjustable belt adds functionality while the plunge neck is counteracted by practical long sleeves. Whether you opt for the basic black or vibrant rose shade, it makes for a solid night-out option whether you’re on a vacation or staycation.

The Details: XS to XL | Polyester and spandex

Best Long-sleeve

Vuori lux intentions jumpsuit.

It’s made with Vuori’s most comfortable fabric – you’ll want to live in it all day long.

You’ll want to pair it with more structured accessories and layers for a more polished look.

For an easy no-brainer outfit for staying comfy on the plane, running to your gate, exploring a new city, or even heading straight to bed, it doesn’t get more practical than this ultra-soft long-sleeved jumpsuit. It's got an adjustable waistband for the perfect fit, a V-neck notched collar to make it look more polished than it is, pockets for convenience, and a moisture-wicking fabric with odor control perfect for bringing on your travels and wearing multiple days in a row. Black and smoke heather colorways are so easy to style, you’ll want them both.

The Details: XXS to XXL | Polyester and elastane

Best Strapless

Abercrombie strapless cutout jumpsuit.

It comes in petite, regular, and tall sizing and includes optional straps.

We wish it came in more than two colors.

When you’re looking to tan or feel the full extent of the ocean breeze on your shoulders, straps can be overrated. Enter: the perfect strapless jumpsuit to pack this season from Abercrombie. It’s got a sultry cutout detail at the midriff that sets it apart from the rest, a lightweight linen-blend fabric ideal for beach and bar hopping, a sweetheart neckline to accentuate your silhouette, and flattering ruched details. Holding it all together is a zippered back that adds a bit of structure along with optional straps to switch up your look, and it’s got a wide leg for easy-breezy comfort and tons of style points.

The Details: XXS to XL | Viscose, linen, polyester and elastane

Best Short-sleeve

Good american fit for success bootcut jumpsuit.

Its utilitarian military style is perfect for infusing confidence, and its zipper closure is a lot more convenient and less bulky than buttons.

It only goes up to size large at certain retailers.

Dress for success (as in, a successful day of shopping and sightseeing) in this bootcut jumpsuit with tons of functionality. It’s got pockets everywhere you look — from the chest to the hips to the backside — and a waist-cinching belt that intelligently snaps at the side to reduce bulk in your luggage and on your waist.

Its short sleeves strike a nice balance between the everyday sleeveless and long-sleeve jumpsuit, which is ideal for moderate climates and heavily air-conditioned indoor settings. The notched collar and flared leg give it that perfectly ‘70s retro look while its faded denim wash and convenient zip closure keep it looking current.

The Details: XS to L | Cotton, recycled cotton and elastane

Best Shapewear

Spanx booty boost easy access flare jumpsuit.

It offers easy access for quick on and off, perfect for using public restrooms during your travels.

It only comes in one color.

For a jumpsuit that does a lot more than just cover you up, opt for this booty-enhancing jumpsuit from shapewear powerhouse Spanx. It features the brand’s signature butt-lifting fabric with contouring and sculpting properties, comes in regular, petite and tall sizing for a perfectly tailored fit, and boasts the brand’s patent-pending Take Off technology so you don’t have to fully strip down in the questionable airplane bathroom.

The flare leg and scoop back make it super easy to style while keeping you comfortable. Plus, it’s free of seams for a chafe-proof wearing experience.

The Details: XS to 3X | Nylon and elastane

Best Versatile

Alo yoga airlift disco daze onesie.

It features a unique silhouette ideal for nightlife or lounge life.

The open back might not feel supportive enough for some travelers on the go.

Coming in the brand’s signature Airlift sculpting fabric, you’ll be resorting to this Alo jumpsuit every time you’re looking to feel confident and contoured. With its on-trend slit flare leg, strappy criss-cross open back and perfectly compressive material with a subtle sheen, this sweet little number is as appropriate for a yoga flow class as it is for a night of dancing away in your favorite heels.

Opt for black if you’re looking for a versatile jumpsuit fit for anywhere the day takes you, or dark plum or midnight green to make a color-popping statement in your travel Instagram posts.

The Details: XXS to L | Polyester and spandex

Best Formal

Misha colby bonded jumpsuit.

It’s got the look and silhouette of a ballgown with the comfort and practicality of pants.

It’s dry clean only so you’ll want to be mindful of sullying it on your travels.

Fun fact: you don’t need to wear a stuffy ballgown or floor-length dress every time the invitation calls for formal attire. Featuring a stunning mesh-boned corset bodice, this jumpsuit marries the sultry look of lingerie with the upscale aesthetic of a ballgown. You’ve got your sophisticated off-the-shoulder neckline with short sleeves, lined trousers for extra structure and comfort, and a hidden back zipper closure for easy on and off. Plus, it’s a great cold-weather option for when you want to elevate your look without having to freeze your legs off in razor-thin tights.

The Details: XXS to XL | Polyester and elastane

Best for Workouts

Aritzia tnabreathe icon jumpsuit.

It’s supportive enough for a workout and stylish enough for a day of exploring.

It might resemble a full-body swimsuit if styled with, say, slides or sandals.

To look and feel on top of your game during your next hotel workout, look to this supportive jumpsuit with several performance-driven properties. Its nylon and elastane fabric wicks away moisture while allowing for full range of motion while the zip-up crew neck provides enough coverage to keep you feeling contained during high-impact activities. Drop-in side pockets at the upper thigh are perfect for storing your phone, cards, and hotel key while contrast stitching provides the illusion of a mile-high physique.

The Details: 3XS to 2XL | Nylon and elastane

Best Casual

Madewell superbrushed pull-on jumpsuit.

It’s a looser, more forgiving alternative to the standard catsuit and is made of sustainable materials.

It can be difficult to wriggle in and out of.

For when you’re not sure what you want to throw on at the beginning of a long day, but you know you want to remain ridiculously comfortable, be sure to pack this ultra-soft Madewell jumpsuit in your suitcase. It’s cut in a way that drapes loosely over your body so you never feel restricted, whether you’re lounging on the couch or hitting the streets for some prime international shopping.

It’s got two front pockets for ultimate convenience, a flattering scoop neck and back, and a minimalist silhouette that’s begging to be layered with your favorite chunky knit cardigan on top or a contrasting turtleneck underneath. Each of its three colorways — from smoky spruce to ocean — are perfect for relaxing in nature, making it an ideal outfit for taking your travels to the great outdoors.

The Details: XXS to XXL | Modal, recycled polyester and elastane

Best With Pockets

Athleta wide leg jumpsuit.

Pockets are zippered for ultimate protection of your belongings.

It runs slightly big, so take that into account when selecting your size.

Comfy enough to hang around in and structured enough for dinner reservations, the Brooklyn Heights wide leg jumpsuit from Athleta is every traveler’s dream. It’s made with a lightweight stretchy material ideal for all climates, and it features secure zip pockets so you don’t have to worry about your phone, hotel card or passport slipping out while on the go. Its notched lapel and wide ribbed waistband give it the sophistication of a tailored suit while its wide leg helps promote breathability.

The Details: 0 to 16 | Recycled polyester and spandex

Best Wrinkle-resistant

Gap denim utility jumpsuit.

It’s a staple in the ultimate Cool Girl wardrobe with its vintage acid wash hue and edgy vibe.

Like most jeans with low stretch, it’ll take a beat for the jumpsuit to sit comfortably against your body and it might be on the bulkier side to pack.

The key to looking refined during your travels? Opting for wrinkle-resistant fabrics whenever possible (because who has time to use the hotel iron or send your clothing to the pricey laundry service?). With its already-lived-in feel and gray acid wash hue, this edgy denim utility jumpsuit is prepared for the rough and tumble transit in your luggage along with any adventure your travels take you on.

It’s complete with a waist-cinching adjustable belt, front slant and back patch pockets, button cuffs and closures, and gets even more comfy as the day goes on.

The Details: 00 to 20 | Cotton, recycled cotton, and spandex

Tips for Buying Women’s Jumpsuits

Choose your materials carefully.

When choosing the perfect jumpsuit, prioritize materials for both comfort and performance. Opt for sweat-wicking fabrics like polyester or nylon, and wrinkle-resistant fabrics like modal, nylon and even edgy denim. Look for jumpsuits that are easily packable without any bulky hardware and versatile styles you can feel confident taking from day to night or layering with outerwear and accessories to switch up your look (even when wearing it on repeat).

Think about your undergarments

Your wardrobe is only as comfortable as the undergarments you’re able to pair it with, but with so many silhouettes and necklines to choose from, wearing bras, underwear, and shapewear with your jumpsuit can become tricky. Choose necklines that support the wear of a traditional strappy bra, and if that’s not in the cards for you, look for built-in bras or padding for extra support. Unlike a traditional pants and shirt combo that might conceal any underwear lines, a jumpsuit bares it all (or most). Look for seamless underwear or opt for a thong if your jumpsuit sits particularly close to the body, and go for a skin-tone hue if its material is light colored or unlined.

To pack a jumpsuit, lay it flat and smooth out all wrinkles and creases. Then, fold one pant leg and sleeve towards the inner collar, and fold that sleeve back toward the shoulder. Repeat on the other side. Fold the whole garment in half, leaving about an inch of material at the hem exposed. Fold that in thirds until it forms a neat and packable pile.

The fit of your jumpsuit all depends on the style you’ve selected. A body-hugging catsuit with lots of stretch should fit snugly against the body, and it should lie flush against your ankle without any bunching. Ensure enough room at the crotch area either by opting for your correct size (or sizing up as needed) and adjusting the shoulder straps accordingly. A snug enough fit will act as the prime canvas for an oversized jean jacket or hoodie for warmth and combat boots or dad sneakers on your feet.

For baggier fits — be it a sweatsuit-inspired jumpsuit or a wide-leg pant with a blazer-inspired top, look for body-skimming properties that don’t make you feel squished or overly stuffy. You should be able to move with a full range of motion with enough room to spare for, say, a layered long-sleeve top or T-shirt underneath that still allows for adding a peacoat, windbreaker, or rain jacket on top while traveling.

"Jumpsuits were originally utilitarian, worn by male industrial workers and parachuters (who were jumping from planes — hence jumpsuit)," says Amanda Constantine , Home & Apparel Reviews Analyst in the Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab. "Women began wearing jumpsuits as a work uniform during World War I and World War II when they started taking over factory roles historically held by men — think Rosie the Riveter." More form-fitting styles became popular in the 1970s, and today, Constantine notes that "the jumpsuit has recently come full circle, with more traditional utilitarian styles becoming a popular, practical choice yet again." Jumpsuits are one of the most versatile pieces in your wardrobe, easy to style up and down with added accessories.

GH fiber scientists and editors alike agree that Spanx's AirEssentials line offers unparalleled comfort and breathability. The brand now offers the same comfy fabric in a jumpsuit style. The airy feel makes this a great pick for travel, lounging and even office wear. With petite lengths available, one tester said: "I have a short inseam, so most wide-leg pants and jumpsuits are too long for me unless I wear tall boots or platforms, but the petite cut hits at the perfect length on my body. Love that I can pair it with normal sneakers or flats if I want to!" Testers note that you may want to size up if you're between sizes for a more comfortable fit.

FP Movement Hot Shot Onesie

Hot Shot Onesie

Made with a soft cotton/spandex blend that's "ultra stretchy and soft," according to a tester, it features a drop crotch silhouette, an oversized fit and two roomy side pockets. Because of its loose fit, this style is great to layer over a long sleeve shirt. Note that this style does run large according to testers and online reviewers.

Dickies Short Sleeve Flex Coverall

Short Sleeve Flex Coverall

While coveralls are a popular trend, they are traditionally a work suit. These coveralls from Dickies can do double duty: work and fashion. Made with stain- and wrinkle-resistant fabric, this jumpsuit can withstand the messiest jobs. However, with over 3,000 rave Amazon reviews, many shoppers are buying this jumpsuit simply for fashion. Some online reviewers note that there can be a bit of extra fabric in the back if you have a smaller butt.

Free People Ziggy Denim Overalls

Ziggy Denim Overalls

Embrace the overalls trend with this stylish pair from Free People that are available in a range of shades , including classic blue denim, white and bright red. Lulu's Power of Love Strapless Jumpsuit

With a chic ruffled top and wide-leg bottoms, this jumpsuit is designed to stay in place and fit like a glove. Online reviewers love the bold color options in addition to classic neutrals. This jumpsuit works best for cup sizes A-C, but some reviewers with larger busts found it fit well if they sized up.

100% European Linen Square Neck Jumpsuit

Nothing compares to the airy, natural feel of linen in the summer. This square neck jumpsuit from Quince is made entirely of linen for excellent breathability. Alex Mill Standard Jumpsuit in Cotton Twill

One tester found this style to be "well-tailored" for a stylish, elevated look. This pick is garment dyed for a "beautiful depth of color," according to the brand, but note that there may be slight color variations due to the dyeing process. This jumpsuit has a ton of pockets to hold all your essentials, and there are back buttons to help cinch your waist for a more tailored fit.

Lee Vintage Modern Union-Alls

Vintage Modern Union-Alls

Denim jumpsuits are the ultimate denim-on-denim look. This style from Lee wowed GH analysts for being "easy to throw on when on the go." A tester even said, "I literally want them in multiple colors I love them so much." Available in eight classic denim shades, Lee uses the brand's best-selling 100% cotton denim for this jumpsuit. It's only available in one inseam length, so it may be a bit short on taller wearers.

How to shop for the best jumpsuits

linebreak

✔️ Material: Depending on the weather and occasion, a variety of different materials work well for jumpsuits. Wrinkle-resistant fabrics like Tencel, lyocell, rayon or polyester are a must for travel jumpsuits. Fabrics with a bit of added spandex or elastane offer extra stretch to move easily with you, which is especially important for exercise jumpsuits. In the summer months, GH analysts recommend choosing breathable materials like linen or lightweight options. Opt for denim, corduroy and other thicker fabrics in the colder weather. Fabrics like silk and velvet are ideal for more formal jumpsuits.

✔️ Fit: As jumpsuits are just one piece, they are available with different silhouettes for the top on bottom. Some have more fitted tops with loose bottoms (and vice versa) or are entirely fitted or completely loose. Looser overalls and coveralls tend to be more casual, while sleek, fitted styles are better suited for nighttime wear. Make sure to pay close attention to the leg shape before purchasing — some are more tailored while others have much wider legs.

To perfect the fit of a jumpsuit, look for features like adjustable straps, tie waistbands, easy-to-cuff sleeves and button closures. These types of adjustable features make it easier to style the jumpsuit differently throughout the year.

✔️ Inseam: The inseam of the jumpsuit should be listed in the product description or size guide. Just like with jeans, the inseam refers to the length of the pants. (Check out our guide to learn how to measure your inseam at home .) Cropped jumpsuits will have a shorter inseam than full-length styles. To ensure your jumpsuit has a proper fit, opt for petite sizing for a shorter inseam and tall styles or a longer inseam.

How to style a jumpsuit

linebreak

Because jumpsuits are just one piece, it can make getting dressed much easier as you don't have to match multiple pieces. However, the right accessories can make or break a jumpsuit's look. A jumpsuit is a perfect base to show off your personality with fun jewelry, shoes, belts or bags.

In colder weather, we love pairing jumpsuits with a denim jacket, leather bomber or sleek blazer to elevate the entire look. Looser jumpsuits also allow for easy layering like putting a fitted turtleneck underneath for added warmth.

What are the best shoes to wear with a jumpsuit?

linebreak

While sandals are a classic pairing with jumpsuits for summer wear, jumpsuits are extremely versatile and pair nicely with a variety of different shoes. Constantine suggests that you can "pay homage to the 70s by styling it with a chunky pair of platforms or clogs."

✔️ Heels can dress up a jumpsuit for a more formal look. Make sure to try on the jumpsuit with your heels to ensure that the hemline isn't too long or short.

✔️ Booties add a stylish flair. Try leather booties for an edgier look and suede ones to embrace your bohemian side. Pairing booties with a jumpsuit is a great way to make a summer style suitable for winter wear. Constantine says you can "lean into the utilitarian feel of a jumpsuit by pairing it with Chelsea or combat boot."

✔️ Sneakers are a classic pairing with jumpsuits for a comfortable feel and a sporty style.

✔️ Sandals are popular to style with jumpsuits for a reason. They're easy, comfortable and chic in the summer. Try wedge sandals for a dressier look.

What to Wear on an Overnight Flight: Best Travel Day Outfits (2024)

What to wear on an overnight flight - women's traveling day outfits collage

Our 2014 flight from Atlanta to Johannesburg was a staggering 16+ hours, earning it the title of longest nonstop flight at that time. But now there are nonstop flights from New York to Singapore (18.5 hours), Melbourne to Dallas (17.5 hours) and Dubai to Auckland (17+ hours). Whether you opt for one of these long-haul flights or prefer to book connecting flights, it’s evident that many travel destinations will require hours and hours in the air. What you wear on a long or overnight flight can make or break your trip. In this post I’ll go over what to consider in picking your travel clothes and suggest airplane outfits for women over 50.

You’ve planned your itinerary, booked your flights, and are looking forward to the big trip. But now you’re faced with a long day (or two!) of travel. It’s time to prepare for the flight! Time to load up your airline personal item with comfort items, and activities to keep you occupied. And time to choose what you’ll wear on the plane.

What to consider in your travel day outfit

Whether you’re on a business trip or a bucket-list vacation, the best airport outfits will meet the following criteria:

  • Comfort – The most important thing about your travel clothing should be comfort. Choose clothing that feels good and allows you to move easily. You DO NOT want to be wearing tight or fussy items on a long flight.
  • Practicality – Next up comes practicality. Avoid clothing that’ll stain if turbulence causes a drink to spill. Or clothing that doesn’t breathe and retains odors (synthetic fibers). Natural fibers and dark colors are the best choices.
  • Versatility – Frequent flyers know to expect a wide variety of temperatures. Being prepared to add or remove layers is one of the most important things to remember.
  • Efficiency – If at all possible, choose your traveling clothing from your travel capsule wardrobe . Pick comfortable clothing you’ll wear again at your destination.
  • Appearance – No need to dress up, but you can be comfortable and look good. And who knows? The flight attendant might upgrade you to business class or even first class if you look the part.

Travel day clothing challenges

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) can be a life-threatening development on a long plane ride. This happens when blood clots form in the deep veins of the legs when you’ve been sitting for long periods. Though this becomes more of a risk as you get older, all passengers should make sure to get up and walk around on a long haul flight to get the blood circulation going. If you’ve noticed ankle swelling on past trips, or have a history of DVT in the family, be sure to wear a pair of compression socks even on short haul flights.

Airport security lines – unless you have TSA precheck, or similar, you may need to remove jackets, jewelry, belts, shoes, etc., before going through the screening. Make it easy on yourself, but avoiding items that might set off alarms. The best travel outfits don’t have metal zippers, clasps, etc., and are easy to layer up or down.

Airplane bathrooms – Bathrooms on airplanes are challenging on a short flight, but on a long haul flight, the bathrooms may get nasty. Don’t go barefoot and be careful of clothing that might touch the floor when you’re in the washroom.

Dry air – This will not affect your travel outfit, but be aware of the dryness, and stay moisturized. Keep lip balm in your pocket so you can apply it often. Wear glasses instead of contacts to avoid eye irritation.

My key pieces – airplane outfits for women over 50

🌱 NOTE : Before buying anything new, look to see what clothes in your closet will fit the characteristics of a good travel day piece. If you’re still missing comfortable travel clothes, consider shopping your local consignment shop .

Bottoms :pants, leggings, skirts

I always wear comfortable pants, leggings, or yoga pants when I fly. Mostly because I need to stay warm, but also for the practicality a pair of pants offers when you’re dashing through airports or struggling with luggage. The best pants are soft and have an elastic waist. Bonus points for zipped pockets. The Venice travel pants from Athleta (a certified B Corp.) and the dressy sweatpants from Encircled (another company with a commitment to sustainable clothing) fit both qualifications and are my go-to travel day options. If I’m wearing a dress or tunic, I’ll choose Wool& merino wool leggings as a base layer.

Airplane outfits for women over 50 - what to wear on a long flight. Outfit shown - leggings, merino wool tunic, cardigan.

Tops : tees, blouses, dress

A dark-colored top with long sleeves is my choice. Pick one that’s wrinkle resistant and easy-care in case of travel spills and mishaps. I choose a merino wool top or tunic which I know I’ll be able to wear again during the trip. The best travel clothes are made of natural fibers. Merino wool, a natural fabric, is temperature regulating and odor resistant and is a good idea for air travel. Depending on my travel plans I might wear a soft, comfortable travel dress for the flight. Paired with leggings, a dress can be the ideal airplane outfit for women over 50.

Toppers : sweaters, wraps, jackets

Always have layering options on a long overnight flight. Your body temperature drops when you fall asleep, and you’ll want a lightweight sweater or wrap.

I’m loving my lightweight Julahas cape which has taken the place of my much-loved DKNY Cozy. Julahas are handwoven using traditional techniques in the Himalayas. I appreciate their commitment to sustainability and ethical fashion. And I appreciate that they let me offer YOU a 10 Euro discount if you purchase through this link – Julahas.

Some people pack a travel blanket in their carry-on bag, but I prefer to tuck an extra cozy sweater in my underseat bag . I can grab it mid-flight without having to access the overhead bin and drape it over my legs. My current favorites are Athleta’s long cardigan (Pranayama Wrap) and the Minkey Wrap by Diane Kroe. Both can be compressed in a packing cube to take up little space in your bag. A light jacket is also a great addition to stash in your bag.

Slip-on shoes, ballet flats, or other comfortable shoes are ideal for long haul flights. High heels are just not practical for air travel and might result in a fall when you’re navigating the jet bridge with your luggage.

But my #1 packing light strategy is to always wear your heaviest shoes on the flight. So, if I’m off on a hiking holiday, I’ll be wearing hiking boots. Not the best option for long flights, so in that case I’ll include a pair of slippers in my carry-on bag and change into these after I’m settled on the plane. Please don’t go barefoot on a plane, especially if you’re heading to the washroom…

Airplane outfit extras:

  • A pretty scarf can tie your entire outfit together and create a stylish look. Choose one with some substance and you can also use it as a light wrap or sleep mask on the flight.
  • Wear (or pack in your carry-on) a park of warm socks (or fuzzy socks) if you’re hoping to sleep.
  • Don’t forget face masks, a sleeping mask, and other long flight essentials .

What NOT to wear on a long flight

Sometimes the easiest way to choose what to wear is to consider what NOT to wear! Pack these items for your trip, but avoid them on travel days.

Air travel, especially red-eye and overnight flights, can be challenging. But the clothes you’re wearing shouldn’t add to the difficulty of a long travel day. A week or two before your flight, look through your packing list to select practical items that’ll keep you comfortable during the flight. Choose items you enjoy wearing – items that flatter you and that you reach for at home. You can look good, and feel at home, even on a long flight!

This post is part of our  Travel 101  series of posts that will prepare you for your trip. If you’re just beginning to plan, I’d suggest you start with the first in the series –  Pack Light, Travel Easy

At the start of your article I thought 16+ is nothing! I live in Melbourne and the very next sentence was about longer hauls you’ve made 😀 Glad I found your blog – considering putting together a light travel wardrobe for hiking in Japan next year and your sustainable, capsule tips are perfect to add to my ideas board. I can’t believe I travelled to Mexico with the equivalent of a day pack of clothing in the 90s; have drifted away from that a bit in the meantime.

Ha! But aren’t you glad you did that trip in the 90s? Have a great hike in Japan!

This Under-$30 Flight Attendant Jumpsuit From Amazon Is My Favorite WFH Outfit.

This Under-$30 Flight Attendant Jumpsuit From Amazon Is My Favorite WFH Outfit

Our travel editor puts Amazon's under-$30 jumpsuit—a cult fave among flight attendants—to the test on two trips and countless work-from-home days. Discover why this stretchy, soft one-piece is her new WFH uniform.

See recent posts by Anne Olivia Bauso

If there’s one thing I’ve learned as a travel editor, it’s this: Listen to flight attendants. Do as they say, and if you’re lucky enough to get flight-attendant travel advice, follow it!

When I learned that flight attendants by the planeload were obsessed with a straightforward $25 jumpsuit on Amazon , I was instantly onboard, without question. A perfect, one-and-done travel outfit, beloved by women who travel for a living? I was so there. It helped that the jumpsuit cost less than my last brunch. I put it in my Amazon cart right away. I didn’t bother with the glowing Amazon reviews or customer photos. No need. Flight attendants know their stuff. If they swear by this garment, then I would buy it, case closed.

The package arrived just before a trip to Barbados . (Though the item is marked as Amazon Prime, it has extended delivery time. Budget a week or two for it to arrive.) I rolled up the jumpsuit alongside more typical tropical-island fare, like my favorite Indian maxidress and linen beach pants .

The first thing I noticed is that it packed *super* well. Even though it had been stuffed in my suitcase a good 24 hours, the cotton/polyester fabric was barely creased. After a hearty shake and some hang time in the closet, it was wrinkle-free and ready for showtime. The fabric is actually mostly (65%) polyester, so it’s very resistant to wrinkles. That polyester also gives it a hefty dose of stretch, making it super comfortable to wear all day, for any activity.

Anne Wearing Pretty Garden Jumpsuit and M.Gemi Sneakers.

The jumpsuit made its official debut at sundowner drinks and a beachside dinner at Crystal Cove , where, like many Barbados hotels, there is a dress code. To make the jumpsuit a bit fancier, I wore the neckline off the shoulder (it can be worn off the shoulder or on, like a wide boatneck). The pant length is also customizable, thanks to the elastic cuffs. After testing out the pants at the ankle, mid-calf, and right below the knee in the hotel-room mirror, I decided wearing them at mid-calf felt perfectly beachy and dressy. The fabric isn’t so thick as to feel too hot for the tropics, but it’s thick enough to wear totally opaque—no panty peekaboos here. This is when I noticed that the drawstring—advertised as adjustable—is faux and can’t actually tighten or loosen. Bummer. Also, there’s a pesky little back button that my fingers can’t manage to fasten without assistance, but I just left it open and it wasn’t a problem. (If you’re wondering, yes—you can still pull the jumpsuit down to pee, no problem.) The jumpsuit can get leveled up with shoes and accessories. I paired it with block heel sandals , big dangly earrings, and my go-to pink lipstick . I even plucked a pink frangipani found on the resort walkway on my way to the bar and tucked it behind my ear for a pre-dinner rum punch.

The jumpsuit was a hit with my fellow travelers, too. I got so many compliments that I sent its Amazon link around via WhatsApp, usually with the note “Best $30 ever! Palm tree emoji. Heart emoji.” It’s amazingly versatile, and deserves all the devotion it has earned from hundreds of flight attendants and thousands of Amazon shoppers. I’ve used it for anything from cocktails by the pool to a nice dinner to going out to sightseeing to airplane travel (as my four-hour flight back from Barbados proved). Really, it’s the perfect canvas for whatever occasion.

Now that I’m staying home and social distancing, doing my part to slow the spread of Covid-19, you’d think my travel jumpsuit would be stuffed in back of my closet. After all, I’m hardly jet-setting these days. All I need is comfy clothes suitable for a full day of remote-working on the couch. But guess what? The Amazon jumpsuit is still in full rotation. The fabric feels like wearing pajamas, so I’m cozy in my couch/office, but it still looks totally sharp and professional on video meetings. And if I want to hop on a livestream yoga class at the end of the day, no need to change. This jumpsuit can stand up to a downward dog and then segue to a night of Hulu and Disney Plus . Turns out, my perfect travel outfit is my perfect work-from-home outfit, too.

Anne Wearing the Pretty Garden Jumpsuit and Working from home.

When the world gradually opens up to travel again, my jumpsuit will be waiting. Morocco and Cambodia remain high on my bucket list, and I know the first thing I’ll pack when I can book my ticket…

Hundreds of flight attendants agree that this $35 jumpsuit is a travel must-have

Amazon Jumpsuit on three different Women

Over the last couple of years, loungewear has evolved into something more than just a lazy Saturday afternoon style. In fact, comfy clothes continue to be at the top of the fashion hierarchy for everything from everyday wear to travel outfits. But one piece that we can rely on for both is this popular one-piece from Amazon.

The jumpsuit first went viral after hundreds of flight attendants raved about it in a private Facebook group for crew members. Soon after, they all started packing the same Amazon find in their carry-on bags .

“It’s the most comfortable piece to travel in,” Delta Air Lines employee Rachel Abukhdeir told TODAY Style . “I wore mine coming back from Paris yesterday with a Burberry scarf.”

Abukhdeir, who is 5 feet 2 inches with an "athletic build," loves that the one-piece is easy to get in and out of.

“There’s a button on the back, but the neckline is stretchy, so you can use the restroom without having to unbutton it,” Abukhdeir, 33, explained. “You just shimmy it over your shoulders.”

Flights attendants (from left) Rachel Abukhdeir, Katelynn Ruffner and Ana Fuentes all own the $35 jumpsuit.

Nydia Rivera, who is in her mid-50s, raved that her jumpsuit has journeyed to South Africa, Jordan and Chile.

“I like my clothes kind of baggy, so I got a large, but the other girls look fabulous with a tighter version,” Rivera raved. “The best investment I’ve ever made.”

Ana Fuentes, a flight attendant of 22 years, told TODAY Style that she pairs the elastic-waist design with sneakers or nice sandals. Meanwhile, Robin Spurlin, 28, recently wore hers with a leather jacket and animal print flats while in Amsterdam.

Bonnie Bordges, 60, packs the wrinkle-resistant jumpsuit every time she leaves for a trip. “You never know where you might end up,” she said. “Reroutes are very common, so this is a ‘go-to’ piece for many of us.”

Katelynn Ruffner, 28, calls it “the perfect one-piece, all-occasion layover outfit.”

The jumpsuit features a tapered leg and is available in over 30 colors, including navy blue, brick red and a few tie-dye patterns. Many flight attendants own one in multiple hues and have also tried the sleeveless version.

Just make sure you buy the PrettyGarden brand, which is currently the online retailer's No. 1 choice for jumpsuits. As Abukhdeir told TODAY Style: A few flight attendants tried to buy a cheaper version, but it’s not [the same material] and does not feel good."

Russia's S7 Will Decommission Its Airbus A320/1neo Planes Due To Sanctions

  • S7 Airlines could ground its Airbus A320neo family aircraft due to the sanctions making it harder to maintain the Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engine powering its A320neo and A321neos.
  • The head of the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency warned that the carrier's decision to ground its A320neo family aircraft fleet could impact the whole Russian aviation system.
  • Reports have indicated that the airline has also been seeking approval to export its A320neo and A321neos outside of Russia.

According to Dmitry Yadrov, the head of the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency (Федеральное агентство воздушного транспорта, FAVT, or Rosaviatsiya), S7 Airlines will be forced to ground its Airbus A320neo family aircraft due to the mandatory engine repairs of the PW1100G, which has become increasingly difficult due to the sanctions imposed on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.

Affecting the whole Russian aviation industry

Yadrov told reporters that Russia’s passenger air traffic could fall by almost 7% year-on-year (YoY) to 98.1 million passengers, according to reports by the Russian news agency TASS . The head of Rosaviatsiya detailed that while the number was planned and the number of passengers during the first five months of the year has grown by 8% YoY, the summer could determine the final number of passengers transported by Russian airlines.

However, Yadrov emphasized that a lot will depend on what S7 Airlines decides to do with its A320neo family aircraft that are equipped with the Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engines. The executive stated that they carry a significant volume of passengers, but they now require maintenance, something that airlines around the world have complained about, Yadrov added.

Overweight & Late: Russia's MC-21 Expected To Be 6 Tons Heavier

The aircraft will have significantly reduced performance when eventually enters production.

Circumventing sanctions with the help of Iran

In addition, sanctions have made it impossible to repair and service these engines. In a separate report by Kommersant , S7 Airlines is planning to reduce its upcoming winter schedule by between 10% and 15% due to aircraft maintenance, with a Rosaviatsiya source telling the Russian publication about S7’s difficulties maintaining the PW1100G.

Kommersant also cited another source, which told the outlet that servicing the Pratt & Whitney engines could not be done either at S7 Technics, S7 Airlines’ maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) subsidiary, or in Iran, which traditionally deals with older-generation aircraft and engines.

Furthermore, another Rosaviatsiya insider told the publication that S7 Airlines has sought ways how to get rid of the Airbus A320neo family aircraft, with the carrier potentially looking for approval from the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation (Министерство транспорта Российской Федерации, Минтранс России) to export the A320neo family aircraft abroad, with at least 22 jets being involved in the ordeal.

According to ch-aviation data, S7 Airlines has 101 aircraft in its fleet, with the airline operating 31 A320neo (15 inactive) and eight A321neo (all inactive) aircraft. However, while the ownership of 26 A320neo family aircraft was unknown, 13 were owned by S7 Airlines, meaning that potentially, no foreign lessors are affected by the airline's woes with its A320neo family aircraft.

Russia's S7 Cuts Moscow Crew By 15% Due To Aircraft Groundings

Some of S7 Airlines' former crew members have already been hired by Aeroflot and its low-cost arm, Pobeda.

Expanding its fleet

However, in May, S7 Airlines announced that it had added three Airbus A321 aircraft to its fleet, beginning the flights with the three jets during the upcoming summer season. The three A321s, registered as RA-73310, RA-73689, and RA-73693 are owned by the State Transport Leasing Company ( Государственная транспортная лизинговая компания, GTLK ).

Before S7 Airlines took ownership of the trio, another Russian airline, Yamal Airlines, had operated the A321s. Two, namely RA-73310 (delivered in May 2003) and RA-73689 (delivered in April 2003), were previously operated by Lebanon-based Middle East Airlines, while Airbus originally handed over RA-73693 (delivered in November 2004) to Aeroflot.

Shrinking Under Sanctions? The Aeroflot Fleet In 2024

With a fleet now fully comprised of Airbus and Boeing aircraft, Aeroflot is doing its best to keep operations going amid sanctions on spare parts.

We'll be back tomorrow with more updates on the war.

We reported earlier that the US will soon announce more than $2.3bn in new security assistance for Ukraine (see post at 4.16pm).

Defence secretary Lloyd Austin made the announcement during a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart at the Pentagon.

Now, we can bring you more information on this.

During the meeting, Mr Austin said the latest weapons package for Ukraine would include arms such as anti-tank weapons and air defence interceptors, and would allow accelerated procurement of NASAMS and Patriot air defence interceptors.

Ukrainian defence minister Rustem Umerov said: "I am proud that the US will soon announce more than $2.3bn in new security assistance for Ukraine.

"This package, under presidential drawdown authority, will provide more air defence interceptors, anti-tank weapons and other critical munitions from the US inventories."

During the meeting with Mr Austin, the Ukrainian official also said Ukraine was looking forward to becoming a member of NATO.

UN human rights experts say Russia violated international law by imprisoning Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich and should release him "immediately".

The Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, made up of independent experts convened by the UN's top human rights body, said there was a "striking lack of any factual or legal substantiation" for spying charges levelled against Mr Gershkovich.

The five-member group said Mr Gershkovich's US nationality has been a factor in his detention, and as a result the case against him was "discriminatory".

"The Working Group finds that Mr Gershkovich's deprivation of liberty constitutes a violation of international law on the grounds of discrimination based on his nationality," the group said in a decision that was taken in March but made public only today.

Matthew Gillett, the working group's chairman, said its opinion was grounded in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which was adopted in 1966 and nearly all UN member countries have ratified.

Mr Gillett said Russia should provide Mr Gershkovich with "proper reparations" for holding him for over a year in detention without a legitimate basis.

Sanctions imposed against Russia over its invasion of Ukraine have failed to achieve any of their aims, the country's ambassador has told Sky News.

Andrei Kelin was speaking to Sky News as an investigation by Sky's Ed Conway revealed glaring loopholes in the restrictions regime, which has allowed British companies - legally - to help keep Russian gas flowing and generate huge revenues for the Kremlin's war machine.

He defended the continued trade with Europe despite the heightened tensions, arguing "business is pure business".

He also argued the supply of weapons by the West, including Britain, to Ukraine was "bad", as it perpetuated the conflict, which he claimed would be worse for Kyiv in the long term.

Speaking to  The World With Yalda Hakim  programme, Mr Kelin said: "The goal of the sanctions was first of all to spoil [the] normal life of Russians so they will say that [Vladimir] Putin is wrong.

"The second point of sanctions was to damage the Russian economy as much as possible.

"The third point was to change the political personnel.

"So none of these goals have been reached by the sanctions."

US secretary of state Antony Blinken and the Ukrainian president's chief of staff Andriy Yermak have discussed NATO members' intention to bring Ukraine closer to the alliance.

Mr Blinken has said Ukraine will become a member of NATO and that the summit will "help build a bridge" to that outcome, state department deputy spokesperson Vedant Patel said.

"They spoke about a number of issues, including the upcoming Washington NATO summit and allies' intention to bring Ukraine closer to NATO membership and helping to strengthen Ukraine's ability to defend against Russian aggression," Mr Patel told reporters.

Their meeting in Washington comes before a NATO summit in the US capital next week, at which Ukraine hopes to secure more assurances from the alliance on its membership bid.

Apartment buildings have been left destroyed in the rural settlement of Toshkivka, in the eastern Luhansk region, amid fierce fighting in the region.

Luhansk - along with the Donetsk area - forms part of the Donbas region.

The region is one which Russia is trying to seize.

Lithuania's foreign ministry has made a diplomatic protest to Russia after a Russian civilian aircraft entered its airspace without permission.

The Pobeda airline aircraft entered Lithuanian airspace over the Baltic sea for a minute on Sunday evening, on its way from Moscow Vnukovo airport to Kaliningrad airport, the ministry said.

Lithuania, neighbour to both Russia and its ally Belarus, was once ruled from Moscow but is now a member of NATO and the EU.

The country has shown its backing for Ukraine during the war and provided military support to the country.

Belarus will not allow any clashes on the border with Ukraine, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has said according to the country's state-run Belta news agency.

"I guarantee you that we will not allow any clashes on the border with Ukraine. There won't be any," Mr Lukashenko said.

Last week, Belarus announced that it had deployed additional air defence forces to its border with Ukraine to protect "critical infrastructure facilities" due to increased Ukrainian drone activity in the area.

President Lukashenko, who has been the head of state of Belarus since 1994, is a longstanding ally of Mr Putin.

At the onset of Russia's invasion, Belarus provided logistical support for Russia, with Russian forces entering Ukraine from Belarusian territory.

But Mr Lukashenko has not sent any troops.

Two women have been killed after Russian attacks on the central Ukrainian city of Nikopol.

Regional governor Serhiy Lysak said on Telegram  the women were aged 61 and 86.

Another nine people were wounded.

"There is a lot of destruction in the district centre," he said.

"Local housing, educational institutions and a dispensary were damaged. Shops, beauty salons and cars were also affected."

Nikopol has been subjected to aerial attacks since the start of the Russian invasion in February 2022.

Russia denies targeting civilians or civilian infrastructure.

US defence secretary Lloyd Austin has said Washington will soon announce an additional £1.8bn in security assistance for Ukraine.

The package will include anti-tank weapons, interceptors and munitions for Patriot and other air defence systems.

It marks a strong response to pleas from Kyiv for help in battling Russian forces in the eastern Donetsk region.

On Sunday, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia had dropped more than 800 powerful glide bombs in Ukraine in the last week alone.

He urged national leaders to relax restrictions on the use of Western weapons to strike military targets inside Russia, adding that Ukraine needed the "necessary means to destroy the carriers of these bombs, including Russian combat aircraft, wherever they are".
