Here we explain exactly how to get from Singapore airport to the city with all forms of transport.

Changi airport is close to the centre of Singapore and so getting into the city shouldn’t take you too long, no matter how you choose to travel.

There are various options for making this journey, depending on your time constraints and budget:

  • Private airport transfer
  • MRT – aka the subway or underground

Hotel Shuttle Bus

Here’s our quick guide on how to get to the city from Singapore airport.

Taxi from Singapore airport to the city

Taking a taxi from Changi airport into the city is quick and convenient and also very reasonably priced compared to many cities around the world.

There are usually plenty of taxis waiting at the airport, so you shouldn’t have to queue for long. Just follow the signs in the Arrivals halls to the taxi stand.

Travel time is usually just a 20-30 minute drive to get from the airport to downtown Singapore, depending on traffic.

Taxi cabs at Changi Airport terminal

Taxis are metered, and the fare should cost in the region of $25 – $40, depending on the time of day (see below for surcharges) and where exactly you are going within Singapore.

Note that the following surcharge applies to all trips originating at the airport:

  • $8 Mon-Sun, 5pm-11.59pm.
  • $6 All other times

Additionally, the following surcharges apply to taxi fares in Singapore:

  • Midnight surcharge: 50% of final metered fare, 12.00am – 6.00am
  • Peak-hour surcharge: 25% of final metered fare, Mon-Fri 6am-9.30am and Mon-Sun 6pm-11.59pm.

Grab from Singapore airport to the city

It’s also possible to book a Grab from the airport – this is the equivalent of Uber in Singapore and you will need to download and activate the Grab app for this.

Grab also gives you the option to book larger cars, executive cards and also family cars with car seats.

Note that Grab drivers are not allowed to pick up from the Taxi stand or Departures. You will need to meet your driver at the Arrival pick-up point.

The cost for Grab rides varies depending on the time and day and availability. The cost will be given within the app at the time of booking. You will often find it cheaper to take a taxi.

Private airport transfer from Singapore airport to the city

You can also book a private fixed-price airport transfer into the city from the airport. This can either be booked via the Changi airport app, or at one of the counters in the arrivals hall.

This is particularly useful if you need a 7-seater vehicle for a larger group or if you have lots of luggage.

Options for private transfers include:

  • 4-seater vehicle for a flat fee of $55 to anywhere in Singapore.

MRT from Singapore Airport to the city

Singapore has a very efficient underground system known as the MRT. It is air-conditioned, cheap and clean and is a great way to get around the city.

Taking the MRT from the airport into Singapore takes around an hour and will cost around $2.

The MRT station is located in the basement of Terminals 2 & 3. If you arrive into Terminal 1, you can take the Skytrain to Terminal 3.

Note that you will need to change trains to get into the city from Changi. You have two options to get into the city:

  • Take the train to Tanah Merah train station then transfer to the East West Line toward Tuas Link.
  • Take the train to Expo station then transfer to the Downtown Line towards Bukit Pajang.

Trains do not run 24 hours, so you can only take the MRT depending on what time you arrive into Singapore. At the time of writing:

  • 5.31am Mon-Friday
  • 5.59am Sundays & public holidays
  • Last train connecting to Tuas Link: 11.18pm.

Payment options for the MRT include stored-value EZ Link cards, contactless Visa/Mastercard/NETS bank cards, or the Singapore Tourist Pass.

Public Bus from Singapore Airport to the city

Taking the bus from Changi airport to the city takes around one hour and will cost around $2.

You will find the bus bays in the basement of Terminals 1, 2 and 3 and you can also pick up the following buses from here: 24, 27, 34, 36, 53, 110 and 858.

Free Singapore Tour for transfer and transit passengers returns from 3 April

Transit and transfer passengers flying through Singapore Changi Airport can once again experience the Free Singapore Tour, this time with refreshed itineraries and a new Changi Precinct tour.

SINGAPORE, 3 April 2023 – Changi Airport Group (CAG), Singapore Airlines (SIA) and the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) re-launched the Free Singapore Tour today after a three-year hiatus due to Covid-19. Three of the existing tours available since pre-Covid-19 - the City Sights Tour, Heritage Tour and Jewel Tour – have been refreshed to include new points of interest. A brand-new Changi Precinct tour will introduce travellers to the interesting sights and sounds of the eastern region surrounding Singapore Changi Airport. Each tour lasts 2.5 hours and will be available daily, with plans to progressively increase to nine tours a day.

With transit and transfer passengers accounting for about 30% of passenger traffic at Changi Airport pre-pandemic, the tour was first introduced in 1987 to enhance the airport’s attractiveness as a transfer hub and to entice transit and transfer passengers to visit Singapore as a holiday destination. In 2019, over 80,000 passengers went on the Free Singapore Tour. The top markets were India, Australia and Indonesia, with Indian and Australian travellers making up more than one third of the total participants.

New Changi Precinct tour to showcase eastern Singapore

The Changi Precinct Tour is a new itinerary that will bring participants to the eastern part of Singapore to visit local community spaces such as the Tampines heartland, and to admire the rustic charms of Changi Village and Changi Beach. It offers a glimpse of how local residents live, and tells the tale of Singapore’s history on this part of the island, away from the usual hustle and bustle of Singapore’s city centre.

Refreshed itineraries to offer travellers new experiences

At the Jewel Tour, in addition to visiting popular attractions like the Shiseido Forest Valley and the HSBC Rain Vortex, participants can now discover more about Singapore’s food heritage through local brands such as Bee Cheng Hiang and Tong Garden, and sample local snacks at the same time. Another new component of the tour is a free guided walkthrough of a digital attraction - Changi Experience Studio - for participants to experience some of its airport-themed games and interactive exhibits.

New pit stops in the City Sights Tour include the Civic District, where travellers will get an introduction to Singapore’s urban development through visits to various national monuments including the National Gallery Singapore, Anderson Bridge and The Padang. The bus route will also pass through the new Marina Bay Financial District enroute to Gardens by the Bay. The Heritage Tour, available from June, will feature places of interest such as the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple in Chinatown, Arab Street and Haji Lane, for participants to gain a more in-depth understanding of Singapore’s unique and diverse multi-cultural heritage.

The refreshed itineraries also highlight sustainability features at some of the locations featured in the tours, to give participants an overview of Singapore’s sustainability efforts. These include the Eco Community Garden at the rooftop of Our Tampines Hub (as part of the Changi Precinct Tour), environmental sustainability initiatives implemented at Gardens by the Bay (as part of the City Sights Tour) and Jewel (as part of the Jewel Tour).

Monster Day Tours has been appointed by CAG, SIA, and STB to run the Free Singapore Tours.

Mr Lim Ching Kiat, Executive Vice President of Air Hub & Cargo Development at CAG, said, “The Free Singapore Tour was very popular among our transit and transfer passengers prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, and we are happy to bring it back with the resumption of travel. For travellers who choose to transit or transfer at Changi Airport, the Free Singapore Tour is designed to give them a glimpse of what Singapore has to offer, including the unique attractions and offerings at Jewel Changi Airport and the neighbouring Changi Precinct which has a rich cultural and historical heritage. Together with our partners, SIA and STB, we hope to welcome more passengers who fly through Changi Airport to enjoy a slice of Singapore through our new tours and world-class attractions and facilities.”

Mr Lee Lik Hsin, Executive Vice President Commercial, Singapore Airlines, said, “We welcome the timely relaunch of the enhanced Free Singapore Tour, which offers a unique transit experience for our customers. We are pleased to continue working closely with CAG and STB to promote the sustainable growth of travel to and through Singapore.”

Mr Chang Chee Pey, Assistant Chief Executive, Marketing Group, Singapore Tourism Board , said, "We are delighted to bring back the Free Singapore Tour through our long-standing partnership with CAG and SIA. It is imperative for us to refresh our tourism offerings to meet the demand for wellness and eco-conscious travel, and cater to travellers seeking deeper experiences. We hope that the tour will inspire transit and transfer passengers to plan a longer trip to Singapore in future, and discover much more of what our vibrant city has to offer.”

Book a tour in advance on new portal

Advance booking is now available on Changi Airport’s website. Transit and transfer passengers who wish to join the Free Singapore Tour must have a layover period of at least 5.5 hours but less than 24 hours. Participants will need to have a valid entry visa for Singapore to take part in the tours.

Singapore Tourist Passes: Making the Most of Public Transportation

Zhuang Jia Wen

Updated on: August 10, 2023

singapore airport tourist bus

For visitors planning on using Singapore’s public transportation system extensively during their stay, a tourist pass can provide convenience and potential savings compared to purchasing individual tickets. Singapore offers tourist passes valid for 1, 2, 3, or more days that provide unlimited travel on key transit options.

The main type of tourist pass is the Singapore Tourist Pass. This provides unlimited rides on the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) metro system and public buses operated by SBS Transit and SMRT Buses for the duration of the pass. Passes for 1, 2, and 3 consecutive days are available.

The Singapore Tourist Pass can be purchased at transit stations, including Changi Airport MRT Station, and online via authorized resellers. Prices vary based on the number of days, but a 3-day pass costs around $20 SGD as of 2022. Multiple riders can be covered under one pass in some cases.

To maximize the value, visitors who plan on taking multiple trips using public transportation each day during their stay should consider a tourist pass. The unlimited MRT and bus access enables efficiently getting around Singapore without hassling with individual tickets. Other benefits like discounts at certain attractions may also be included.

However, those with more limited transportation needs may find paying per trip worthwhile instead. Transportation fares in Singapore using an EZ-Link contactless transit card are distance-based and relatively affordable. Visitors should assess their planned itineraries and habits.

By offering flexibility and potential savings on Singapore’s excellent public transit system, tourist passes are a transportation option for visitors to research and consider when planning their trip.

The free tours, which will be run by home-grown company Monster Day Tours, can be booked on the Changi Airport website.

The bus tours – Changi Precinct, City Sights and Heritage – take up to 40 visitors each session, while the Jewel Tour, a walking tour, accepts up to 25 persons for a round.

There are plans to progressively increase the frequency to nine tours a day, from the three starting on Monday, said Changi Airport Group (CAG), Singapore Airlines and the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) in a joint statement.

Transit and transfer passengers accounted for about 30 per cent of passenger traffic at Changi Airport prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, they said.

Over 80,000 passengers went on the free tours in 2019, with travellers from India and Australia making up more than one-third of the total participants.

“The Free Singapore Tour was very popular among our transit and transfer passengers prior to the pandemic, and we are happy to bring it back with the resumption of travel,” said Mr Lim Ching Kiat, executive vice-president of air hub and cargo development at CAG, adding that the tour is designed to give travellers a glimpse of what Singapore has to offer.

Mr Chang Chee Pey, assistant chief executive of the marketing group at STB, said: “It is imperative for us to refresh our tourism offerings to meet the demand for wellness and eco-conscious travel, and cater to travellers seeking deeper experiences.

“We hope that the tour will inspire transit and transfer passengers to plan a longer trip to Singapore in future, and discover much more of what our vibrant city has to offer.”

Before the start of the pandemic, Changi Airport was the world’s seventh busiest in terms of international passenger traffic, managing a record 68.3 million passenger movements in 2019.

The recovery of passenger traffic is on track, with Transport Minister S. Iswaran saying in March that it is expected to return to pre-pandemic levels by 2024.

STB’s forecasts for visitor arrivals in 2023 are bullish, with 2022’s 6.3 million figure expected to double and hit 12 million to 14 million.

Singapore’s international visitor arrivals grew to 957,605 in February, up from 931,652 in January.

While the February figure set a new record since the start of the pandemic in early 2020, it is still significantly below the 1.7 million visitors recorded in January 2020.

Singapore Airport: Guide to the Best Airport in the World

Among the attractions available at the airport are 3 free tours. One of them is inside the airport itself to see one of its most incredible attractions, Jewel. The other two are walks through the streets of Singapore, getting to know the best that the city has to offer. And all this, without paying anything!

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT FREE TOURS

Free Singapore Tour is a service offered to Singapore Airport passengers who are making a long connection, but will not have the opportunity to stay a few days to get to know in detail the attractions that this amazing city-state has to offer. The tours are offered daily in English only for people who are passing through the airport making a connection, that is, they will not be staying in Singapore. In this post, we summarize the main information for you to clarify doubts about who can participate in the tour, how to participate, what is necessary to participate and which tours are available. In case of specific questions, we recommend contacting the responsible area directly via email. [email protected] .

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN TOURS AT THE AIRPORT

To be able to participate in one of the Singapore Airport tours, you must respect some rules:

  • It is mandatory to be a transit passenger (is connecting at the airport, waiting for a next flight)
  • You must have between 5 and a half hours and less than 24 hours of connection time at the airport and your next flight must match the times available for the tours
  • Those under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult to participate in the tours

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN TOURS AT THE AIRPORT

  • Upon arrival at Singapore Airport, please remain in the transit area and do not pass through the immigration area as the Free Singapore Tour service desks are located in the transit area.
  • It is possible to contact the team directly upon arrival or make a pre-booking. You can only choose 1 of the three available tours. Don't forget that the number of seats per tour is limited and therefore reservations are recommended.
  • Terminal 2: Floor 2 of the Transit Area, close to Transfer E (open from 7 am to 6:15 pm)
  • Terminal 3: Floor 2 of the Transit Area, close to Transfer B (open from 7 am to 6:15 pm)

May I ask if the 3 free tours form Singapore Airport you introduced above are still unavailable because of CO-19?

I will arrive in Singapore on 20 May at 17:30 and want to join one of them. I don't know if I will have the opportunity to participate.

Do you have any idea when the 3 free tours will be operational again?

hi jane Unfortunately, the tours were suspended due to the pandemic from 21 March 2020 until further notice. There is no information when they will be operational again. Kind regards

Hello good afternoon! I have a question regarding free tours in Singapore. The Heritage tour doesn't stop at China Town and Little India, right?

Hi Yasmin! We appreciate your comment! Chinatown and Little India are included in the tour, but we don't know if there are stops (get off the bus) at these places. In the post, you will find the itinerary of all available tours. Important: Due to the pandemic, changes may have occurred and, therefore, it is interesting to confirm if the tours are still in operation. Hugs 🙂

Changi International Airport

Explore Changi International Airport – Including the Free Tours

Changi International Airport is the home of Singapore’s airport waterfall. Yes, a waterfall inside the airport and not a tiny trickle of water flow. It is the tallest inside waterfall in the world, and it free falls from the sky!

Even if you are not familiar with Changi International Airport, I bet you have heard that Singapore’s airport is voted the best in the world. Skytrax rated the World’s Best Airport (known initially as Inflight Research Services) for seven consecutive years. Statistically, the airport holds this award for the World’s Best International Airport by passenger numbers. Currently 50 million-plus passengers. However, most know it and marvel at it because it is home to Singapore’s airport waterfall , inside the Jewel.

Changi International Airport is a hub to all of southeast Asia . It has become a tourist attraction of its own. One that almost all explores, even if passing through on a connection. You need to see for yourself to comprehend why it consistently ranks as one of the best airports in the world.

If you want to come to Singapore for a vacation and think how it will be most profitable to get to the Changi International Airport, then I suggest you use the search form below, which will offer you the cheapest and best flight options.

Changi International Airport is overloaded with attractions such as a sprawling mall, a four-story slide, the swimming pool on the rooftop, a butterfly garden, movie theaters, one of which is 4D, and the waterfall inside the Jewel.

How to Spend Your Layover at Changi International Airport

Despite its status as one of the region’s busiest airports, Changi Airport is a comfortable place to wait out one’s long layover.

Explore the Jewel

Launched in 2019, Jewel cost US$1.3 billion to build. It is five stories tall, spans 1,453,127 square feet, and is open to flying passengers and non-flying visitors.

The Jewel is best known for the Rain Vortex, commonly known as Jewel’s waterfall, the airport waterfall, and Singapore’s airport waterfall. The waterfall is surrounded by the Shiseido Forest Valley, one of Singapore’s largest indoor plant collections.

Collecting a GST Refund at Changi International Airport

Shopping in Singapore is duty-free, and you can receive a 7% goods and service tax (GST) refund from all eligible purchases at the airport.

  • You must spend at least $64 or SGD100 for each purchase in a shop to be eligible. *Note , there is a maximum of three receipts per day per store.
  • Some shops use the eTRS system. If they do, they will provide you with an eTRS ticket. If the store does not use the eTRS system, show your passport and ask for a GST refund voucher. This is easy; almost all shops encourage you to buy by reminding you how much GST you get back.
  • Once at the airport, go to the eTRS self-help kiosk. There are two kiosks at the airport. One before check-in and one after in case you have items that need checking. At the booth, swipe your passport, then scan your eTRS tickets. You can then choose your refund options. Refunds can be claimed in cash, credit to your credit card , or shopping vouchers.
  • Once you have checked in, head to the Global Refund counter or Premier Tax-Free counters in the departure lounge to collect the actual refund.

Just know that a handling fee will be deducted from the total refund amount.

I know some of you will appreciate this information. For me, it’s far too much work, and I don’t buy enough expensive items for this to be worth my time.

Food and Drinks Inside Changi International Airport

Changi Airport boasts over 200 dining options that cover every genre of food and every price point. For a complete listing of food and drink options, see the directory of restaurants .

Lounges Inside Changi International Airport

There are lots of airport lounges! As a holder of Priority Pass, I had high hopes for our pre-flight time. Unfortunately, I choose the wrong lounge.

Avoid SATS Premier Lounge. It was dirty, it stunk of dead fish, and I had one bite of a steak stir fry that I have still not recovered from — no kidding. Three weeks in Asia, and no issues. One bite at SATS, and I’ve had “Delhi Belly” ever since.
  • Airline Lounges : Changi International Airport Lounges .
  • Priority Pass Lounges: Changi International Airport Priority Pass Lounges
  • Pay-Per-Use Lounges: Changi International Airport Pay-Per-Use Lounges .

If you don’t have access to these lounges, don’t worry. There are free lounges throughout Changi Airport in all terminals. Here is a list of the free “snooze lounges”: Changi International Airport Free Snooze Lounges .

Closing Thoughts

Our approach to exploring Changi International Airport was to arrive several hours earlier than our departing flight. This was easy to do as our departing trip was at 10:30 pm. We arrived, stored our luggage in the terminal we were departing from then went straight to the Jewel.

This airport is impressive. It’s not only a marvel to view, but it’s immaculate and organized. For example, getting through security took a total of ten minutes. Where we live in Orlando , an hour is considered decent (SMH).

You could spend hours upon hours exploring it all, but realistically, the main attractions are the shopping and the waterfall inside the Jewel.

If you are connecting through or heading to Singapore, you need to make a point of exploring Changi International Airport.

Once you’ve experienced it, well, you will forever see our airports as “blah.”

Wish I would have read your article about Changi Airport before visiting Singapore, I never would have imagined there are so much things to do there! It was one of my favourite airport even before the Rain Vortex opened but ever since I saw some photos of this waterfall I wanna go back and have a long layover in Singapore :)

Hi there Kriszti – ditto! Who knew right? I’m actually thinking of using this as my new connection via Asia as it’s so cool. And, the idea of taking a free tour and not even having to go through customs and all that… no brainer… Let me know if you do a long layover and do the free tour :) Nikki

Wait, what…? An AIRPORT WATERFALL?! That’s so amazing! I would love to go there one day! Your post is so thorough that I would just literally print it off and take it with me as my guide! :) Magda https://www.gloryofthesnow.com/

Thank you! Hope it helps and if you do go and only via a layover do the free tour for sure :)

Singapore Airport (SIN) › Transfers › Shuttle & Bus

Singapore Airport Buses

Various bus lines link Changi International Airport to the city center of Singapore and several other parts of the city. Although they are dependent on the traffic levels and make many intermediate stops, Singapore buses are regarded as a convenient way to travel from SIN Airport, especially for travelers on a tight budget. On the other hand, Changi airport shuttle buses also link the main airport in Singapore to downtown, Changi Business Park, and Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal.

The Public Buses from Singapore Changi Airport

Seven bus lines depart from Changi airport terminals 1, 2, and 3, heading to several regions of Singapore. Explicitly, the following bus lines depart from the basement level of T1, T2, and T3:

  • Bus Line 24 (Ang Mo Ki – Changi Airport Term 2): It runs from 05:30 am to 11:00 pm every 8-14 minutes (depending on the time of day)
  • Bus Line 27 (Hougang CTRL Int – Changi Airport Term 2): The bus operates from 05:15 am to 11:50 pm on a 6(during rush hours)-11-minute frequency.
  • Bus Line 34 (Punggol – Changi Airport): It runs from 05:30 am to 11:45 pm every 4-14 minutes.
  • Bus Line 36 (Tomlinson Road – Changi Airport): The bus is available from 06:00 am to 11:58 pm every 8 minutes during peak hours and every 12 at other times.
  • Bus Line 53 (Bishan Int – Changi Airport): It operates from 05:30 am to 11:15 pm every 6-13 minutes.
  • Bus Line 110 (CompassVale Int – Changi Airport): The bus runs from 05:30 am to 11:45 pm on a 9-13-minute frequency, depending on the time of the day.
  • Bus Line 858 (Woodlands Int – Changi Airport): The bus with the biggest route runs from 05:15 am to 00:30 am every 5-9 minutes.

On the other hand, the only available bus lines calling at terminal 4 are Buses 24, 34, 36, and 110. The bus stop at SIN terminal 4 is to be found right next to Car Park 4B. Alternatively, passengers landing at T4 may head to the SATS Inflight Catering Center 1 (10 minutes away from the terminal’s doors on foot) and catch Buses 27, 53, and 858.

Singapore Airport Bus Tickets

The bus fares in Singapore are calculated based on the traveling distance. Thus, the distance from Singapore Changi Airport to your destination in Singapore will determine the cost of your Singapore airport bus ride. Just to give you a hint, Singapore is located around 26km/16.1 miles away from SIN Airport. Thus, the bus ticket from Changi Airport to downtown is priced at about S$2.22/$1.65/€1.53. Please note that cash payments are slightly costlier. Verily, cash-paid bus journeys to the city center cost around S$3/$2.20/€2. Another perk of non-cash payments is that they allow free onward rides. Verily, you can use up to 5 buses and trains within a 2-hour time frame from your first ride. In detail, this two-hour period is calculated from the first boarding to the final boarding. However, you can’t reboard the same bus line or exit and re-enter the same train station. Moreover, you must catch another mode of mass transit within 45 minutes of the previous one. This rule applies to switching from one bus to another or from a bus to a train (and vice versa).

How to Pay for your Singapore Airport Bus Tickets

Various payment options are available when it comes to bus fares. Thus, you can choose the top value-for-money one for you, depending on the duration of your stay in Singapore and how frequently you are planning to use the city’s public transit system.

  • Contactless Payments: You can use your debit or credit card (Mastercard, Visa, or NETS Contactless ATM Card) to pay for your bus tickets. However, it’s important to keep in mind that for foreign cards, admin fees will also apply.
  • Mobile Wallets
  • SimplyGo EZ-Link Cards: Rechargeable cards that can be topped up with money. They are the way to go if you don’t plan to travel much via buses or trains during your Singapore journey. An EZ-Link Card costs S$12/$8.90/€8.20. However, the card’s actual cost is S$5/$3.70/€3.40, as the S$7/$5.20/€4.80 amount on the card can be used for travel.
  • NETS Prepaid Cards/EZ-Link and NETS FlashPay Cards
  • Cash: You can pay onboard using cash. However, your Changi airport bus ticket will be somewhat pricier. Furthermore, you should carry the exact amount of money as the machines don’t give back change.
  • Singapore Tourist Pass: Singapore Tourist Passes are highly recommended for travelers who enjoy traveling via public modes of transit or want to save money using Singapore’s buses and trains. There are actually special EZ-Link Cards. You’ll find 3 types of passes. Singapore Tourist Passes can be used as EZ-Link Cards after the unlimited time offer. Hence, you can top them with money and use them for bus and train rides or retail purchases, or even keep them as a souvenir. Nevertheless, in both cases, you won’t get back the rental deposit.

The EZ-Link Cards can be purchased from the Changi Recommends Stores, the Cheers Outlets, the Passenger Service Center, and the SimplyGo Ticket Offices at the MRT Train Stations.

Our Tip 1: Children up to 0.9m (2ft 11.43in) travel for free.

Our Tip 2: You should always tap in and out the same card or device to avoid getting extra charged.

The Changi Airport Shuttle Bus Options

Changi airport shuttle buses provide efficient services from Singapore Airport to several destinations. Three shuttle bus lines depart from SIN Airport:

  • The City Shuttle: It heads to various downtown hotels with hourly routes from 07:00 am to 11:00 pm. The shuttle ticket costs S$10/$7.44/€6.88 for adults and S$7/$5.20/€4.80 for children younger than 12. Passengers who want to use the City Shuttle service may address the Ground Transport Concierges (GTC) that operate around the clock in the Arrivals halls of all terminals.
  • The Free Lunch-Time Changi Airport Shuttle Bus: The particular line is free and available only to Changi Rewards members. It links Changi airport terminal 3 to Changi Business Park from 11:46 am to 02:23 pm (but not on public holidays). Please bear in mind that the shuttle buses don’t have luggage storage space and that, according to the demand, you might have to travel standing.
  • The Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal (TMFT) Shuttles: If you want to reach Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal and travel to the islands of Batam and Bintan, you can catch one of the TMFT Shuttles running from SIN terminals 1 and 4 to the ferry terminal from 12:00 pm to 07:30 pm. The Changi airport shuttle buses call at the Ground Transport Concierge counter of T1 and the Ground Transport Concierge desk of T4 and need 20 and 12 minutes to reach their destination, respectively. Tickets cost S$4/$2.97/€2.75 and can be purchased from the Ground Transport Concierge desks.

Which bus goes to the city from the airport?

Seven bus lines connect Singapore Changi Airport to the city of Singapore. Verily, Buses 24,27, 34, 36, 53, 100, and 858 depart from terminals 1, 2, and 3 heading to various regions of Singapore. On the other hand, the only buses calling at Changi terminal 4 are Buses 24, 34, 36, and 110.

How do I pay for a Singapore bus?

You can pay in cash inside the bus (though the fare will be costlier), use your mobile wallet, or opt for a contactless payment. Alternatively, the EZ-Link Cards and Singapore Tourist Passes can also be used to pay for Changi airport buses.

  • Time Required: For some, visiting Marina Bay is a multi-day adventure. For layover purposes, we recommend budgeting at least 2 hours to explore a few areas of the park – though more time is always better. Note that this does not include travel time to and from the airport.
  • How to Get There: Check out this Google Map for details on public and private transit options and the required time.
  • Plan Your Visit : Visit Tripadvisor for more information about visiting Marina Bay, book a tour or read traveller reviews.

Singapore Flyer

Singapore Flyer

Soar to the height of a 42-storey building as you circle on the world’s largest observation wheel: the Singapore Flyer . From the peak of the wheel, you will get some of the best panoramas of the city possible – with bird’s eye views of Marina Bay , the Singapore River , Empress Place and the Padang. Each capsule holds up to 28 people and serves cocktails, snacks and beverages during unique experience rides. Round off the experience with a 1-hour tour through the Journey of Dreams – a multi-media exhibit that shares the story of the wheel’s development about the city’s history, culture and aspirations. Discounts are available if you book ahead online.

  • Time Required:   each rotation on the wheel takes approximately 30 minutes, and you should also budget 15 – 20 minutes for wait times in line. Add another hour to visit the Journey of Dreams exhibit. Note that this does not include travel time to and from the airport.
  • Plan Your Visit : Visit Tripadvisor for more information about visiting the Singapore Flyer, book a tour or read traveller reviews.

Singapore Botanic Gardens

Craving some fresh air on your layover rather than the intensity of this world city? A trip to the planet’s most extensive botanic gardens may be the perfect antidote to a long Singapore layover. With over 600,000 specimens enclosed within the 74-hectare perimeter, these trails will help you unwind amidst the explosive gardens. Walking trails run throughout, carrying you through the Tanglin Heritage Core, the central belt of the Gardens and Bukit Timah, and the educational and discovery zone. The gardens also provide an interesting peek into the city’s history and development since they were founded in the early 1800s.

  • Time Required: Exploring the full breadth of the botanical gardens could take a lifetime. We might recommend a minimum of an hour to explore at least a section of the park. Free guided walking tours are run on Saturday mornings and afternoons. Note that this time estimate does not include travel time to and from the airport.
  • Plan Your Visit : Visit Tripadvisor for more information about visiting the Singapore Botanic Gardens, book a tour or read traveller reviews.

Airport Transportation

Singapore Changi (SIN) is connected to the city through several means. Driving in private transport to the city center covers 11 miles. Taxis take in the neighbourhood of 30 minutes, while public transit takes closer to an hour.

Public transit options include:

  • Buses (stations at Terminals 1, 2 and 3): Bus Service 36 connects the terminals to the city center.
  • Metro (Terminals 2 and 3): The MRT also connects the airport to the city center via the Tanah Merah station.

Private transit options include:

  • Airport Shuttles: The transit desk organizes fixed-fare shuttles to most downtown locations.
  • Car Rentals: Rental desks are in the Arrivals Halls of Terminals 1, 2 and 3.
  • Taxis: Available at the Arrivals Halls of all airport terminals.
  • Free Business Park Shuttles: Changi offers free shuttles between the Changi Business Park and the airport

Before You Go: Layover Tips

Now that you are motivated and excited about your mini layover vacation, check a few final logistical concerns off your list before you fully commit.

  • Do you need to organize a visa to leave the airport? Requirements change frequently and for each nationality, so be sure to seek out current details on the availability, cost, and procedures of obtaining a transit visa.
  • When is your next flight’s check-in time? Double-check with your airline exactly when you need to be at the airport – and plan your layover accordingly.
  • What are security wait times like at the airport? Some airports are notorious for extended security wait times, so research in advance and factor that into your overall time budget.
  • What’s happening with your luggage? When you check in to your first flight, confirm whether your luggage is checked through or needs to be picked up between your connecting flights. Visit our Singapore Changi Airport Guide for information on Luggage Storage.
