Day 1: Departure

Today we embark on our Journey to the Holy Land. Prepare yourself for a life-changing experience. Get some rest on the flight…tomorrow you will be walking where Jesus walked!

Day 2: Arrive Israel

pilgrim tours best of israel

Arrive in Israel and travel northward to our hotel for one night in the coastal area near Tel Aviv. The remainder of the day is free to walk along the Mediterranean, relax, and have dinner. The time is right for a personal devotional with the sunset over the “Great Sea.” Meet your Israeli guide, enjoy a time of prayer of thanks for safety and the special blessings ahead, a prayer for the people of the "Promised Land," and a good night’s rest.

Day 3: Caesarea, Megiddo, & Nazareth

pilgrim tours best of israel

After breakfast, we travel by private motor coach along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea to Caesarea, where Gentiles first heard the Good News from Peter and were baptized. We’ll see the Roman Amphitheatre, hippodrome, a film on history and the remains of this famous port city, an aqueduct, and then journey through the Mt. Carmel range, where Elijah challenged King Ahab and the prophets of Baal. Next we travel through the Jezreel Valley to Megiddo, the Armageddon battlefield, where archaeologists have unearthed 20 levels of civilization. We drive through the area of Cana and Nazareth, the boyhood home of Jesus, where we visit the Nazareth Village, a wonderful recreation of Biblical times with costumed guides. We will have dinner and overnight lodging for the next three nights along the Sea of Galilee.

Day 4: Dan, Caesarea Philippi, Jesus Boat, Sea of Galilee Boat Ride, Magdala

pilgrim tours best of israel

Following breakfast, our morning travels take us to two valuable northern sites. Dan is where the children of Israel fell to the depths of alternative sacrifice and Caesarea Philippi, the site of Peter’s confession and pagan worship. We pass the possible site of the multiplication of loaves and fishes in Bethsaida and the Mount of the Beatitudes. Returning to Galilee for a St. Peter’s fish lunch (other selections available), we then visit the ancient fisherman boat followed by a relaxing cruise on the Sea of Galilee. A brief scripture reading and devotional on board brings to life the experiences of Jesus and the fishermen disciples. We conclude our day with a visit to Magdala, hometown of Mary Magdalene. The recent excavation of the first century synagogue and well-preserved village makes Magdala one of the most interesting Biblical sites in Israel.

Day 5: Capernaum, Corazin, Mt. Arbel, Jordan River Baptism Site

pilgrim tours best of israel

Today we visit the Biblical towns of Capernaum and Corazin. Capernaum is located along the Sea of Galilee and was the hometown of Peter. It is likely where Jesus and the disciples lived during much of His ministry while in Galilee. Next, we visit Corazin which offers another example of a Jewish synagogue and a replica of the “Seat of Moses” which was carved out of the local basalt block and from which the scribes and Pharisees would have read the Torah. We enjoy a bird’s eye view of the Galilee region atop Mt. Arbel. Mt. Arbel could likely be the location that Jesus would get away from the crowds to take time in prayer with His heavenly Father. Here our guide will point out the various towns listed in scripture during the time of Jesus. We conclude our day with an opportunity to be baptized at the Jordan River Baptismal Site.

Day 6: Beit Shean, Bethany Beyond Jordan, Abraham's Tent, Mt. of Olives & Garden of Gethsemane

pilgrim tours best of israel

We travel southward this morning to Beit-Shean/Scythopolis, the most magnificent archeological site in Israel, located at the strategic juncture of the Jezreel and Jordan valleys. Like Jericho, it has been almost continuously occupied throughout history. After defeating Saul and his sons on Mt. Gilboa, the Philistines hanged their bodies on the walls of Beit-Shean. During the time of Jesus, Scythopolis was one of the chief cities of the Decapolis - a league of ten cities sharing Greek culture and government. Following the fertile Jordan Valley southward, your guide will point out the agricultural restoration of the “Land of Milk and Honey” and Israel’s intricate irrigation development. We pass ancient Jericho and view from a distance this city famed as the oldest in the world. To the east of Jericho along the Jordan River Valley (Queser El Yehud) is the Israeli side of Bethany Beyond the Jordan. In this area Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist; Elijah and Elisha crossed the Jordan; and the children of Israel, led by Joshua, entered the Promised Land. This afternoon we will take part in the Genesis Land/Dinner in Abraham's Tent, where we enjoy a trip back in time to relive life in the time of the Patriarchs, complete with costume, dramatic presentation, camel ride and authentic food. Arriving in Jerusalem we’ll enjoy a beautiful view of the Old City atop the Mt. of Olives and then the Garden of Gethsemane. How many have wished to be whisked back in time to get a glimpse of our Lord or hear His voice if only for a moment? To walk between the ancient olive trees, read the scriptures of Jesus' prayer and take time for personal reflection is important here. We will have dinner and overnight lodging for the next four nights in Jerusalem.

Day 7: Masada, Ein Gedi, Dead Sea Scrolls, Dead Sea Swim

pilgrim tours best of israel

Our day begins with a cable car ride to the mountain top fortress of Masada. Here our guide will treat us to the history of the famous zealot stand. Afterwards we proceed to Ein Gedi, "Spring of the Goat," an oasis on the western shore of the Dead Sea. Because of its warm climate and abundant supply of water, the site developed a reputation for its fragrant plants and date palm groves. This is where King David hid from Saul and where God defeated the enemies of the Israelites by praise and worship led by King Jehoshaphat. Next, we visit the Qumran Caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. This afternoon we have an opportunity to enjoy a relaxing float in the Dead Sea.

Day 8: Jesus’ Steps, Western Walls, Southern Steps, Way of Suffering, Garden Tomb

pilgrim tours best of israel

Today we walk where Jesus walked, beginning the day with a visit to the Wailing Wall and then the fascinating Rabbinical Tunnels leading us through the Second Temple era. The tunnel and exhibit give a clear understanding of the amazing construction of the Temple Mount, giant stones, water supply and Roman street where our Lord was led to judgment. Before exiting the tunnel, we see the immense cornerstone rejected by the builders. Next, we visit the Southern Wall Excavations. This southern side of The Temple was the main entrance for the common folk, whereas the Priests and Levites had their own entrance from the higher eastern side. Parts of the giant stairs, which led to the Temple Mount from the courtyard have been unearthed along with the purification pools. From here Jesus entered the Temple Mount and drove out the vendors and money exchangers who were exploiting the people. It is also likely that this is the place where Peter stood and preached and where thousands were saved and baptized on the Day of Pentecost. This afternoon we move on to the Judgment Hall of Pilate, hear of those who conspired against Him and are reminded of His brutal beating and humiliation. From here we will also be able to see the Pool of Bethesda, Stephen's Gate, and St. Anne’s Church. While walking along the Via Dolorosa, we are reminded of His way of suffering along with a visit to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Our guide will explain the differing opinions on the route where Christ was led. (The actual place of crucifixion and burial is a very interesting study!) The climax of the day is the area of Golgotha (place of the skull) and the Garden Tomb, where we celebrate the resurrection with communion and a time of praise.

Day 9: Israel Museum, Friends of Zion Museum, Bethlehem

pilgrim tours best of israel

An interesting and educational time awaits us today at the Israeli Museum. Walk through collections of century’s old Israeli artifacts including the Dead Sea Scrolls, and then a guided walk through an accurately detailed model of Biblical Jerusalem. This model will help put into perspective all that you have seen over the previous days’ touring. We then visit the Friends of Zion Museum to learn of the 19th and 20th century heroes of the Jewish people. We spend the remainder of the day surrounding the birth of Christ with a visit to Bethlehem. This evening we enjoy a special lecture by a local believer prior to dinner, giving us a perspective of Messianic life in Israel.

Day 10: Free Day or Return Home

You may choose to take an early flight home or spend the day sightseeing on your own and take a late day return flight. Those choosing to depart late in the day on Day 10 will arrive home on Day 11.

Important Note: Although the itinerary above obviously emphasizes the spiritual aspect of this marvelous country, our guides are also experts in and passionate about the miracle of the return of the Jews and the restoration of the state of Israel. This fact, along with many modern day topics (military, politics, education, and other cultural aspects), will be woven into the commentary in order to give you well rounded information.

*The tour itinerary is subject to change or be slightly modified in order to best meet the interests of the group.

Pilgrim tours israel – why do pilgrims love israel so much.

Israel has the roots of Christianity for almost 2000 years. Israel is where you can find Jesus's birthplace, the tomb where he addressed his followers and where Jesus walked on water. Because of the connection with Jesus, Israel is a holy place for Christians. According to the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, last year, around 350,000 Christian pilgrims dipped into the Jordan River for baptism. Every fall, thousands of Christians come to this amazing country to praise the Lord and to walk in his last footsteps.

Christian tour travel agents estimate that between 500,000 and 700,000 Christian pilgrims visit Israel every year, and soon it will reach a million visitors.

Just to mention some of the leading pilgrimage sites in Israel:

1. Church of the Holy Sepulchre

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem is the holiest Christian site of the world. It is the site where Jesus was crucified, buried, and resurrected. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is one of the most visited pilgrim sites in Israel. It also holds the Stone of Anointing, the Place of the Skull, and the Aedicule chapel, along with the Tomb of Jesus and the Angel's Stone – the stone that was used to close the entrance to the tomb of Jesus. For six centuries, different Christian denominations have shared the church but a Muslim family holds the key to the church.

2. Church of Annunciation

The Church of Annunciation is built on top of a cave that is believed to be where the Virgin Mary stayed and the angel Gabriel appeared announcing to her the birth of Jesus. For Christians, it is one of the holiest places. The Basilica of the Annunciation is also the largest church in the region.

3. Bethlehem

Bethlehem is home to the Church of the Nativity and probably the most spiritual place for Christians. Jesus was born in an underground grotto under the church. It is also one of the most crowded spaces as Christians come here in groups to see the 14 pointed stars set in the ground to mark Jesus' birthplace.

Muslims believe that Bethlehem is where Prophet Muhammad offered a prayer on his way to Jerusalem while, for the Jewish community, this is also an important place.

Your tour agency or agent will help you go through the security checkpoint.

4. Via Dolorosa

"The Ways of Grief" or Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem is a 500-meter long route that Jesus Christ took on the way to his crucifixion.  Undeniably, the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem in one of the most popular holy sites in Jerusalem and most famous holy places in Israel.

The bigger part of the route goes through the Muslim Quarter, while the smaller part is in the Christian Quarter.

5. Sea of Galilee

The Sea of Galilee is an important place for Christianity. According to the Holy Bible, Jesus walked on the shores of the Sea of Galilee and four fishermen, Peter, James, John, and Andrew, followed him. The lake is situated among the hills in Northern Israel. It is the lowest freshwater lake on earth and the second lowest lake in the world.

6. Mount of Beatitudes (Har Nahum)

The Mount of Beatitudes is a hill next to the Sea of Galilee where Jesus is believed to have preached the Sermon on the Mount, including the Beatitudes. Later on, a church was built in the same place.

At the foot of the Mount of Beatitudes, there is a site called Tabgha. According to the Holy Bible, Jesus fed almost 5000 people with only 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish.

7. Qasar el Yahud

Baptism is considered an important spiritual event for Christians. They feel an emotional connection when dipped in the water for baptism. According to legend, Qasar el Yahud is where Jesus was baptized by John. It is also one of the most popular pilgrim sites and is accessible to tourists every day. If you want to get baptized at the same place as Jesus experienced it, Qasar el Yahud should be on your top ten places to visit while being in Israel.

8. Experience history in the desert

In the Judean desert, you can find one of the oldest and most spiritual monasteries in Israel and a must-see if you love history. The church is maintained and managed by Greek monks who welcome visitors or people seeking a place of worship.

9. Mount of Olives

The Mount of Olives is an important religious landmark to both Jews and Christians, located next to the Old City of Jerusalem. Over the last 3,000 years, until today, the Mount of Olives is used as a Jewish cemetery.

It is located above the Temple Mount and offers amazing views of the city. You can visit the Church of All Nations at the bottom of the Mount of Olives. It is believed that here Jesus offered his last prayer before being betrayed by Judas and the Romans captured him.

While you are here, visit the adjoining Garden of Gethsemane. According to history, it is the same garden that existed in the era of Jesus and where he gave his last sermon.

10. Nazareth

This city, where Jesus Christ lived with his mother Mary and with Joseph after coming back from Egypt, is home to a few very important religious sites, like St. Gabriel's Church and the Mary of Nazareth International Center, where you can learn about the history of Mary, the Holy Caves in the center of ancient Nazareth, and much more.

During Christmas and on other Christian holidays, the city is especially popular and festive and holds a Christmas market and other special events.

So, if you want to visit the places where Jesus was born or walked on water or was resurrected, Israel welcomes you with open arms.

Day 1 – arrival –Nazareth- sea of galilee

Hope you had a pleasant flight to Israel. Once landing you will have a warm welcome to holy land. Soon we will start our journey following the steps of the son of god.

As heading to the north of Israel, our first stop will be the city of Nazareth. We will start our visit in the Nazareth village museum. This village shows a traditional village from the time of the bible. From there we will start our visit to the old city starting at St. Gabriel church. We then go through the colorful market into the Church or Annunciation. In the center of the village, there is a house, which by the tradition, is believed to be the house of Mary and Joseph, and place where Mary was announced.

We continue, like Jesus, to the Sea of Galilee. On our way, we can have an amazing lookout from mount of precipice. Then continue to Cana, the wedding church were Jesus made his first miracle.

For the end of this impressive day, we will head for a night rest in Tiberias on the shores of the Sea of Galilee.

Day 2 the Sea of Galilee

Following the miracles made by Jesus, we will concentrate today around the area of the Sea of Galilee. First visit is Capernaum, known as the town of Jesus, then continue to mount of beatitudes for an excellent point of view of the whole region. From there we head to Tabgha where the miracle of multiplication occurred. Being on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, we will have a traditional cruise on the lake. In the afternoon, visit the baptismal site of Yardenit in the Jordan river, having an opportunity to baptize.

Heading back to overnight in Tiberias.

Day 3 –Mediterranean Coast

Leaving the area of Sea of Galilee heading towards Caesarea, the roman capital of the holy land. In Caesarea the first gentile was baptized into Christianity and from here Paul sailed to Rome.

We continue towards the south until we reach the old city of Jaffa. Here is where Peter witnessed the revelation that started the separation from Christianity to Judaism.

At the end of the day, we will be heading to Jerusalem for overnight.

Day 4 –Bethlehem and modern Jerusalem

In this day, we will continue following the steps of our Lord in Holy Land. We will be heading to the city of Bethlehem and have a visit to the Church of Nativity and the surrounding sights and landscape of the ancient city.

Coming back to Jerusalem, we will be heading to the Israel museum. Here, we will observe the huge model of ancient Jerusalem and how was life in Jesus times. As well, the Dead Sea Scrolls which are the oldest written version of the old testament founded near Qumran caves. Later on, we will visit the picturesque village of Ein Karem where John the Baptist was born. We will finish our lovely day in visiting the holocaust museum of Yad Vashem.

Back to our hotel

Day 5- Dead Sea and Judea desert .

Driving to the east side of Jerusalem we will begin, our descend, through the Judean desert to the Dead Sea. We have a look at the picturesque monastery of St. John in the desert next to Jericho. We continue towards the Qumran caves an old settlement a home of the famous Essenes. Continue our way south driving to the west shore of the Dead Sea we will reach the Masada the desert fortress standing on a cliff 550 meters high overlooking the Dead sea.

In the afternoon, we will have time to float on the saltiest lake of the world at an altitude of over 400 meters below sea level-the famous Dead Sea. Late in the afternoon will start heading back towards Jerusalem for overnight.

Day 6- old city of Jerusalem

Beginning our day, we will have a spectacular point of view from top of Mt. of Olives to the old city of Jerusalem. Descending towards the old city we”ll visit the tear shaped church of Dominus Flavius witnessing a different view of the old city. Continuing our way down to the old city we will arrive at the Gethsemane church. We will visit the olive trees and the church of agony.

From there we will reach Mt. Zion to visit the last supper room and king David’s Tumb. Continuing our tour to the old city heading to the Wailing Wall the most sacred place for the Judaism.

If time allow it you will visit the wailing wall tunnels an archeological excavation under the wailing wall.

Back to the hotel for our last night.

Day 7 old city and departure.

This final day our pilgrimage raises to its peak. We will follow Jesus last way by the Via Dolorosa. The way of the Via Dolorosa ends at the Holy Sepulcher Church. Before entering the church, we will visit the Garden Tumb where archeologists found remains of first century burial caves similar to what the scriptures describe.

Heading towards the airport with lots of good memories from our visit in Israel for our flight back home.

Hope to see you again.

Shalom from Israel

Thank you for making our tour-Nov…

Thank you for making our tour-Nov 23-30, 2023 an amazing experience! Not once, from landing in Cairo until we departed from Amman did we feel unsafe. We couldn’t have asked for better guides or drivers, they took care of everything, from our border crossings to checking us in at Amman airport. We loved being a part of the different cultures, seeing the Deserts of Egypt, Mt Sinai, the Red Sea, Mt Nebo, brought the exodus of the children of Israel alive. We are thankful we went, thankful for the dedicated services provided and encourage others to take the tour! Your guides are waiting and will give you an incredible experience! Pilgrim Tours provide enriching experiences

Pilgrim Tours provide knowledgeable guides. We were told about the history of the sites as well as the importance of each site Enough opportunities were provided to investigate on our own The guides brought us to places where we could taste authentic middle eastern foods I appreciated that each day had a unique itinerary which was shared ahead of time A great experience I would do it again

History Comes Alive

What an amazing experience! Our guide, Roman, was very knowledgeable and made history come alive. A great way to experience the history of the Bible. Would definitely use Pilgrim Tours again!

Our guide was Eshcar and I can’t say…

Our guide was Eshcar and I can’t say enough about him! He was so incredibly knowledgeable about Israel, the Bible, people in general, and he discussed ways the past relates to the present. He was so kind and genuinely wanted us to understand and appreciate his country. He had a gentle firmness about keeping our group of 24 quiet when he was talking so we could all enjoy what he was saying. He even told us his personal story, which was amazing. This trip for me was life altering and I highly recommend anyone going to Israel to have a licensed guide….like Escher!

From my first phone call to my return home ...

From my first phone call to my return home, Pilgrim Tour folks met every need with action and compassion, in spite of a canceled flight out of Boston. They met every promise they made and my experience was beyond what I expected because of the kindness of the tour guides, drivers, hotel staff, etc. The guide in Jordan wasn't at such a high level which cost a star. I plan to return to Israel and will go through Pilgrim Tours again.

Greece -- Nothing was left out of our trip

Greece was our first trip with Pilgrim Tours. Our guide was very helpful and professional. She had traveled many times to Greece and was able to share her personal experiences with us which made our experience even better. While we were there, we were able to see just about everything! Having traveled with other touring companies, our Pilgrim experience was top notch and we recommended them to our friends.

Just returned from the 12 day Israel Superior tour. Our tour guide Olga was great. Very knowledgeable and able to quickly juggle our schedule into new interesting sites when a rockslide forced temporary cancellation of Masada, which we then got to see later

Pilgrim did an incredible job

Pilgrim did an incredible job from before we ever booked until after the trip with their follow up and incredible service. We did the 10 day Israel tour but wish we had added the exodus. Will use them again.

Pacific Northwest group The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and did a fantastic job explaining the sights. He also gave us a really good historical background to get us ready for each sight. The bus driver was extremely good at his job getting us in and out of all the tight traffic. We were blessed by the trip and highly recommend it to everyone who is thinking about it.

Wonderful tour schedule in Turkey and Greece as we visited the cities mentioned in the Gospels and Revelation. Tour guides were excellent, very friendly and knowledgeable about the area we traveled in. Still friends with them. All details were seen too and no problems. Would gladly use Pilgrim again. My trip with Pilgrim Tours was a 20!

My trip with Pilgrim Tours was handled very professionally from the start. Even with Covid messing up all our plans, the trip was finally able to happen. Pre-trip communication, including educational materials and reminders to get into physical shape and also make timely payments were very helpful. During the trip everything went very smooth, including daily tours, meals, hotels and transportation. If I was asked to rate this trip on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the highest, I'd give it a 20. I have already verbally signed up with the Tour Organizer for a trip next year. - Paul Biebel

Excellent Organization and Wonderful Tour Guide

My husband and I just returned from a 10-day Israel Tour. We were so impressed with the excellent detailed organization of pilgrim tours, from beginning to end. We also want to commend our excellent tour guide. He was very knowledgeable, kind, patient, and highly respectful. He was genuinely concerned for each person's well-being throughout the tour. We thoroughly enjoyed our entire experience and we will be using pilgrim tours again, definitely!! Our guide's name is Avi Levi. Thank you, Avi!!

First Class

From my first phone call to Pilgrim Tours til I arrived safely back home from our trip, my every need was met. Their staff is thorough, competent, professional and caring. They always answered any questions I had to my satisfaction. Every detail of our trip was taken care of with professionalism. I positively have nothing negative to say about Pilgrim Tours. We wouldn’t consider using any one else.

Pilgrim Tours is great!

Pilgrim Tours is great! Our tour guide was very friendly and informative. He provided us with whisper devices so that we could clearly hear him as we toured the different sites, and he even helped our group when language and cultural barriers lead to a lack of communication and understanding. Also, our driver always made sure his bus was clean and comfortable, with water bottles we could purchase as we went from place to place. The sites were beautiful, and the hotels we were taken to were clean, well kept, and overall comfortable.

OUTSTANDING TOUR - DON'T MISS IT!

I just returned from a 10-day "Best of Israel" tour with my granddaughter through Pilgrim Tours. I cannot adequately compliment Pilgrim enough. Our tour guide, Mickey, was unbelievably knowledgeable and compassionate and make Israel come alive for us. The tour included everything we wanted to see. The lodging and meals were great, but the daily highlight was the tour itself. I'm 82 years old and Mickey was very understanding of my limitations and guided me through each challenge. If I'm able to take another tour, it will only be with Pilgrim.

Pilgrim Tour are outstanding!

We have always loved traveling with Pilgrim tours. This latest trip to Italy was no exception. Every detail was looked after, and the guide/tour Director was outstanding. He even took us for two /unofficial unplanned walking tours of sites the group wanted to see.

Well, praise God for everything

Well, everything was okay except that I was made to have waited for 6 hours before I was collected at the airport, after making several calls to America from Turkey... But the overall experience was very positive & powerful to have visited the 7-Churches that the God of the Bible told Jesus to Dictate to John the Revelator; to have seen Churches were St-John pastored & seen where St-Policarp pastored... And also for me to have slept in a hotel that I called {19-29} meaning that the hotel that I slept in Izmir was the tallest building that I have ever slept, "the 19th floor & in 20th room"; so I called my hotel 19-20... Overall, everything was ok, I'm looking forward to going to Greece this October, God-willing! {So, all I'll say to the organisers is: Press-On!

Thank you Pilgrim for unforgettable Turkey trip!

Thank you Pilgrim for planning our amazing trip to Turkey!!!🇹🇷 Started off traveling through the city of Istanbul, then stayed in a beautiful cave hotel in Cappadocia where we had the best views. Ended our trip with a week on a private Gullet boat, with the best crew and talented chef (trust me, I’m a picky eater😁), traveling through the Aegean Sea!! Highly recommend !!!🇹🇷

Exodus Tour, just the beginning

In 2018 our family of 5 went on the Exodus Tour with Pilgrim. We are Canadian and there aren’t a lot of these kinds of tours within our budget. I spent quite a bit of time researching various tour groups, mindful of both experience and safety-we are so glad we went with Pilgrim. While I love the variety of experiences in each segment of our tour, I was blown away with the rich Christian history in Egypt. Each tour guide was amazing with their knowledge and personal touch. We are looking at the Footsteps of Paul tour with Pilgrim, once travel restrictions lighten up. Our daughter’s were 18,16,14 on this trip and we have wonderful lasting memories.

Pilgrim Tours "Israel at a Slower Pace" Tour

The rating we gave would have been 5 if we only considered the Israeli staff. They were amazing. It was the many problems with their US staff that warranted the lower rating. Pilgrim Tours Staff: The Israeli staff hired by Pilgrim Tours was exceptional. Our guide, Katherine van deer Beek, was passionate about her topics of discussion, knowledgeable, talented, and compassionate. She made our tour such a joy; it was both an inspirational and thought-provoking learning experience. Likewise, our guide in Bethlehem, Lahdo, was excellent. He went above and beyond to help those in our group who had mobility issues see the places we visited in comfort. Our bus driver, Bassam, was also a blessing to our group. Besides being an excellent driver who could impressively navigate the large bus through very tight places, he was knowledgeable of the area and helped us find the best places to enter our sites so everyone was able to participate. On the other hand, our experience with the US staff at Pilgrim tours was a “Comedy of Errors” at best, and frustratingly incompetent at worst. We first began planning our tour to Israel with Pilgrim Tours in March of 2022, for an upcoming trip in May 2023. Our initial contact was Tim Nyce, president of the company. Tour price Increased by $100 after final invoice sent: When first deciding if the slow-paced, smaller group tour was right for us, we received information from Tim Nyce, president of Pilgrim tours. We were given the price per person if we booked before November 2nd, and were strongly encouraged by Mr. Nyce to do this. If anyone booked later than that, there would be an additional $100 fee. We were also told that if we canceled at any time (up to 90 days before the tour), there would be a $100 penalty. This $100 late registration fee quickly became the normal fee for our tour. The $100 “discount” for early registration evaporated when our group grew to the number to qualify for a group discount. After I pointed out the misrepresentation of this policy on their site, they changed this to indicate it is now a “discount” rather than an increase in the fee for a late registration. Several people in our group paid their deposit early to take advantage of this $100 savings, not sure if they would be able to go. However, we were never informed at the time of registration that the “discount” as it was now called, was no longer available if your group received the posted group discount which we later learned in a terse email from Mr. Nyce. We didn’t find out about this until our final invoice arrived, charging us the extra $100. If we had known this advertised discount was not going to be honored, the people who registered early could have waited until March to register, saving each of them the $100 cancellation penalty. After learning that we would be charged an extra $100 for the tour, I contacted Lori Taylor, our assigned travel consultant for clarification. I thought I must have missed seeing this information on their website or in our correspondence. Lori answered, “Unfortunately, it does not directly state that discounts are not stackable but the small group discount is listed and advertised as a ‘special rate’, signifying that it something different than what is advertised online. I think I understand what you are asking so hopefully my answer explains what you are asking…Because of the small group discount, everyone is paying the same price for the tour now, no matter what time they registered. There is no longer an $100 tour cost increase because of registering after November.” (copied directly from email dated 2/27/23). Since her explanation conflicted with the current charges in our invoice (in that it clearly states we should not have to pay the extra $100), I forwarded the email to Tim Nyce and asked for clarification. He refused to answer my question about the conflicting information we were receiving and instead answered, “The maximum discount that Pilgrim Tours can offer is 10% off the full advertised price of $2,199. This amounts to a total discount of $219.90 per person. Passengers who deposited before November 2, 2022, guaranteed their spot at a maximum price of $2,099 per person (before we applied a small group discount). As your group grew above 6 passengers, all passengers are now offered a 10% discount off the advertised tour cost. If you’d like us to change your invoice for those that deposited before the November cutoff, the price can be listed at $2,099 but your small group discount would then be $119.90 to total a $219.90 discount.” We let the whole matter drop after that, knowing that we had no recourse at this late date with flights already booked. (March 2023). Other Invoice Mistakes: Besides the conflicting information given about the price of the tour, we had other mistakes on our invoice. They added an additional post-night charge that we didn’t request and they left off the two transfers (before and after the tour) we had requested. The post-night was eventually removed, but we still lacked the transfers. An additional email was required to correct that mistake. Lori replied, “Sorry that must have accidentally gotten removed when we removed the additional post night. Here is an updated invoice.” (It never was on the invoice.) Mistake made in Beginning of Tour Transfer: We also had mistakes made regarding both of our transfers in Israel. Due to weather, one of our flights to Tel Aviv was delayed several hours and we missed a connection at JFK. I immediately called the emergency contact number we were given in the final travel papers and informed Daniel (the contact in Israel) that we would not be arriving until the following day, but at the same time. I also contacted Lori Taylor by email to make sure everyone on the US side knew about the change in flights. When we did arrive in Israel, we followed their directions to gate 23 to meet the person providing our transfer to the hotel. No one was there. We waited 30 minutes and tried calling the emergency contact again. Finally a man arrived, obviously annoyed because he didn’t know we were arriving until, as he stated, “Just 5 minutes ago.” We had to wait about an hour for him to find someone to drive us to our hotel. (The person found was either drunk or extremely tired; he drove down the middle of the lines most of the time, eliciting many loud horn blasts at us.) Other people arrived after us and had their driver waiting for them. The annoyed employee of Pilgrim who first “greeted” us, was even more irritated that we brought a collapsible wheelchair for my husband. We are allowed two suitcases, as per Pilgrim Tours instructions, so his wheelchair (which was smaller than our suitcase when collapsed) was our 2nd suitcase. When we told the annoyed man this, he complained that it wasn’t the size of it, the wheelchair wasn’t “square enough.” Appalled at his ridiculous comment, I popped off the foot rests and said, “Now it is square.” No Wheelchairs Allowed: Although we had been told earlier by Pilgrim that they don’t allow wheelchairs on their tours because of space limitations on the busses, we decided to bring it because we had two extra days before the tour and one after when we could use it. And, we only brought one suitcase for the both of us, so we had the extra space. However, once we arrived and met the tour guide and bus driver, they both encouraged us to bring the chair with us. There was more than enough room on the bus and it would come in helpful in places where the terrain was flat and especially in the museums. (My husband has MS and while he can walk, he is slow and becomes tired after walking for an hour or so.) There were also others on the tour who had similar difficulty walking long distances, so our tour guide was extremely helpful in planning each day to provide resting spots as we walked. Mistake Made with instructions to deliver Tip Money: Rather than pay tips to local contract workers directly, Pilgrim Tours asks a person on the tour to take cash and checks to the guide in charge of our tour. I was asked to perform this task, and I agreed. I had to go to the bank and cash a check into specific denominations of US cash for hotel staff. I was instructed to give the envelope with the cash and checks to a specific person at the hotel in Tel Aviv, in my case it was a man named Mickey. When we arrived in Tel Aviv, I looked for Mickey, but was told he wasn’t there yet. I tried again the next day when we first met our guide, Katherine. She said she thought he was in the restaurant. I went up there to look and couldn’t find him. Since it was late, I decided to wait until the next morning to continue my search for Mickey. I emailed Lori Taylor, telling her how I was trying to deliver the envelope to the person instructed, but so far I was unable to find him. The next morning, I found him and tried to give him the envelope, but he said he wasn’t supposed to receive it. He said the letter had incorrect instructions and I was supposed to give the money to our guide, Katherine. So then I spent quite a while looking for Katherine. I finally found her, showing her the letter I received and explaining my dilemma, and how I was instructed to give it to someone else. After this I saw multiple emails and one phone call chastising me for not delivering the tip money on time. I replied that I was diligently following their very specific instructions and they should provide accurate instructions if they want it delivered “on time.” Mistake made with End of Tour Transfer: At the end of our tour we were all informed by our guide, Katherine, about our return transfers if purchased. At first the date she listed on the What’s App (Our means of communication within the group while in Israel) was correct. However, the next day she said that was a typo and the date the transfer was scheduled was one day earlier, which was incorrect. I asked Katherine about this, and she said there was conflicting information in what she received from Pilgrim and I needed to contact them directly. I sent an email to Lori to find out what happened. I also posted a copy of the confirmation I received earlier from Lori listing the correct day for the return transfer. The day and time of the return transfer was eventually corrected, but not without a lot of customer effort on our part to fix Pilgrim’s mistake, again. Problems with Hotels Provided: The quality of the hotels Pilgrim provided for us during the tour were very low-end. Problems experienced by us as well as others on our tour ranged from bed bugs to air conditioning issues. At the last hotel in which we stayed (Leonardo Hotel in Jerusalem), our thermostat didn’t work. It averaged 64 degrees F in our room. There was no way to adjust it. When we asked for help at the front desk, we were told we should turn off the whole AC system when it gets too cold, and then turn it back on when we get too hot. So, we did this….all night long….for 5 days. Others in our group experienced clogged bathroom drains (we had this problem too), toilets that kept pouring water in loudly all day and night (after three attempts to fix this problem, this couple was moved to another room), AC units that didn’t work at all, rendering the room very hot (this was fixed after 2 days) and the worst was the bed bugs one couple endured. The rooms were not clean. The bathrooms were moldy and heavy layers of dust lay on the floor under the beds, causing difficulties with allergies. On the day we left we saw employees of the hotel placing extra beds into some of the rooms (we were told they were overbooked for the weekend). The beds were disgusting…torn and dirty. We will not choose Pilgrim Tours again for any future travel. Perhaps our experience would have been better if we had a different travel consultant who made fewer mistakes, but we cannot speculate. If you choose Pilgrim, be prepared for changes in price and watch very closely whenever they send documents to check for mistakes. And if you travel to Jerusalem, we recommend that you get a different hotel than the Leonardo.

We have just returned from the 10 day Egypt tour with 14 friends. We put our own group together and when we arrived discovered they had added another couple. No problem. We “adopted” them and treated them like family -but be aware this can happen. The greeting at the airport and the slick way they got us Visas and to the hotel the first night was superb, especially when you’re exhausted from travel. Wahld was terrific. The ride from the airport to the first hotel, The Ramses Hilton, was almost an hour so plan for that. The Ramses is an older hotel that is adequate but nothing special. (See that review separately). They will change money and I suggest $60 American for the whole trip and about $100 USD in crisp $1 bills from home. The guide was superb! Although his English could be better, Raeda, as a person was just fabulous! What a great sense of humor and knowledge. The over all experience was good, but I would add that we selected Pilgrim due to what we felt would be a lot more discussion and knowledge regarding Christian sites etc. Yes, we did have some. But if you are coming from and engage local view point, it may be less than you desire. My friend and I had put together devos each morning and without that it would have been lacking for sure. Be VERY cautious if you go in the Mt Sinai portion. My husband and I chose not to. Our friends did and said the hike was extremely difficult and it was a ten HOUR bus ride there before they began. I think Pilgrim should rethink this! The hotel was bottom of the barrel!! Poor and food horrendous they said. We had a delightful time on the Nile cruise but be aware by American standards it is 3* at best. The bedding was old and pillows terrible. BUT the staff was AMAZING! If you haven’t traveled international to developing countries be prepared. If you have and know how things work - you’ll love it. Always be aware to not eat the fruits and vegetables that are uncooked. Truly we had an amazing time and saw all kinds of fabulous stuff. The balloon ride was a highlight but if you book on your own you will get it MUCH cheaper!!

Had an amazing trip to Israel with my church family. Our guide Avi and bus driver Akram were the absolute best!!! We had a great experience with Pilgram Tours!!! I highly recommend them for all your over seas journeys.

I returned from the 14-day Israel & Egypt tour over a week ago and, although I requested one, have still not received a form from Pilgrim Tours to rate the experience. The tour was severely flawed in many respects. One, our guide, Jeremy. He made racist and political comments throughout the tour that were completely unacceptable. His communication with the group was poor. He would give important information to us only once, and change it often. We were confused about his expectations for most of the trip. There was just one area where he communicated clearly and frequently, and that was regarding the vendors he encouraged us to buy from - this we heard over and over again, making it apparent that there were some kickbacks happening. Very unbecoming for a Christian tour! At one store in Bethlehem that sold olive wood, we were given a form to supposedly get a refund on the taxes paid at the border. Don’t fall for it! It turned out to be completely bogus because the store is in a Palestine-ruled area, we were told by the border agent. She filled out a complaint on our behalf. In other reviews I’m reading about similar issues from years ago, so PT is not taking stock- very disappointing. I could give many more examples of the issues we faced on this tour. If I had to do it again, I would go with a local church group or BSF. To end on a positive note, our tour group had some fantastic people we were blessed to meet! And our bus driver, Hassan, was incredibly competent and kind!

We've just returned from a 10-day Best of Israel tour through Pilgrim Tours. From start to finish, the tour was excellent. We arrived in Tel Aviv after an overnight flight, and there was a Pilgrim tours representative to meet us at the gate, took us through Border Patrol and baggage claim, then directed us to our bus that was waiting for us. Sort ride to Netanya, a city on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, where we hd the rest of the day to relax after the long flight. Next day we met our tour guide, name is Irit, a Israeli native who spoke perfect English throughout the rest of the tour. From Netanya, we travelled north on an air conditioned bus with WIFI to visit the Caesarea National Park, then East to Nazareth and on to Tiberias for the next two nights. Irit was excellent in explaining what we were seeing along the way as well as at each stop. Our group was mostly seniors and she made sure to explain where restroom stops would be, and allowed plenty of time at each stop to explore, take photos and grab a snack if needed. From Tiberias we travelled South along the Jordan River to Jericho, which is in the Palestinian territory and into the desert along the Jordan River. Each lunch stop we did was excellent Israeli food at reasonable prices, which she advised us of in advance. We visited Asada and location where Dead Sea Scrolls were found, then on to the Dead Sea for the night. Many of us took the opportunity to "float" in the Dead Sea, then return to our nearby hotel to clean up and have dinner. Our last 4 days were spent in Bethlehem and Jerusalem to see/visit the various biblical sites in each city. Our bus driver for each day of the trip was the same fellow, who was excellent in helping get some of our tour members onto/off he bus at each stop, as well as provided bottled water on the bus for refreshment. Each hotel we stayed at was modern and up to date, with breakfast and dinner buffets provided for at each hotel. Food was fresh and well prepared, with plenty of choices for each meal. maybe it was just us, but after about the 5th day of travel we got a little tired of he same Israeli food at each location, so once in Jerusalem, we and some other travelers broke away from the group to dine at local restaurants, where he food was excellent, well prepared and reasonably priced. Menus in both English and Hebrew, and servers spoke English very well. All in all, a very worthwhile and well produced trip by Pilgrim Tours. So much variety of topography in Israel, so many historical sites well preserved by the Israeli government. Our tour guide Irit was superb and very accommodating of our group. Definitely a trip worth taking!
