An Weekend Cruise From Palm Beach to the Bahamas

Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line operates just two ships— Grand Celebration and Grand Classica— out of the Port of Palm Beach, located just north of downtown West Palm Beach in an area formally known as Riviera Beach. Not a lot of people know about it, even in Florida, but it’s the perfect way to pack more into your vacation. The cruise line has year-round daily sailings between Florida and the Bahamas.

The sailings are typically two-night/three-day cruises, which makes it easy to just take off on a vacation when you need one. You can leave on a Friday and be back by Sunday morning (and not even have to take a day off of work !).

Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line offers super chill and easygoing cruises between two amazing tropical vacation destinations , and it allows you to maximize your time in the Sunshine State by exploring another destination during just a short stint away from your first vacation. It’s kind of like a vacation within a vacation , and who wouldn’t want that?

Where Does Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line Go?

Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line sails between West Palm Beach and the Bahamas and docks in Freeport (Grand Bahama Island). While docked in port, you can opt to explore on your own or book an excursion to help you make the most of your time in the islands.

Another perk of Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line is the fact that, if you prefer, you can extend your trip by staying over in the Bahamas for a couple of nights and then coming back on a different sailing. This is something that few other cruise lines offer (if any), and it’s a nice way to spend a little extra time in the Bahamas while still enjoying a cruise vacation on either end. You can book the four-night vacation option directly on the Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line site and choose between a few different hotel options, including some all-inclusives.

How Much Is Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line?

This is perhaps the biggest draw of Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line: it’s affordable. And sometimes, if you’re lucky, you might even find a Groupon for the cruise, and then it’s even cheaper.

Plus, everything’s included in the price, as on most cruises: food and drink won’t cost you unless you pay extra for the upgrade restaurants or purchase an alcoholic drink package (which I recommend doing if you’re going to have more than one or two piña coladas on the cruise). And I also recommend at least one meal at The Rock Grill, a super fun dining experience where you cook your own meal on 1000-degree lava rocks brought to your table!

woman-holding-pina-colada-cruise-ship-florida-to-bahamas

The cruise is usually around $150 or less for a 2-night/3-day jaunt to the Bahamas. They also offer regular deals and promotions like flash sales (I’ve seen $59 per person, per night!) and even “kids sail free” promos (they have three separate kids clubs onboard). They also offer perks for solo cruisers , so don’t write off the cruise if you can’t find a travel buddy or if you just need a little “me” time.

They even offer monthly Ladies Night cruises, which is $49 per lady with packages available that include drink coupons, spa discounts, VIP perks and other treats.

Through July 31, 2019, Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line has brought back their Triple Play promotion: $129 per person for all staterooms plus perks like five free drinks, a $25 onboard credit and $50 casino match play. Am I doing my math wrong, or do the perks just about cover the cost of the cruise?!

Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line Experience

Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line isn’t a luxury cruise line and the ships aren’t the latest and greatest state-of-the-art types with all the newest bells and whistles (so don’t go in with those kinds of expectations!).

What you will find is a laidback, no-frills way to spend a couple of days away from your cares, the ideal place to take a break from the real world and spend some time in the Bahamas. And for the price, you really can’t beat it…try to visit the Bahamas for less, I dare you!

The actual visit to the Bahamas is short—you only have from the time the ship docks in the morning til you have to be back on board again in the afternoon—but sometimes, that’s all you need for a total reset. You’ll sail back into port the next day feeling like you got a nice break from reality for a bit.

The cruises are also pretty versatile. While the party goes all night at the casino and bar areas, you can also get away from it all and have a relaxed time aboard the ship. There’s onboard entertainment and shows , a casino , bars and poolside parties on the sun deck , but there’s also a spa and salon , fitness center, and a little shopping—or you can just enjoy the view from your room !

Whether you want an action-packed, no-sleep kind of trip or a soothing time with endless sea surrounding you to dissolve your stresses away, you can find what you’re looking for on a Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line ship.

What’s The Difference Between Grand Classica & Grand Celebration ?

There are two ships in the Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line fleet: Grand Classica and Grand Celebration .

There aren’t many differences between the two different Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line ships. Their restaurants vary slightly—they have a few of the same restaurants but some different ones—but overall, the vibe is very similar and one isn’t better than the other. I wouldn’t pick a cruise based on the ship because they’re so similar.

I’ve been on both, but if I had to pick one to go on again, I think it would be Grand Celebration . I think it’s the original (and thus older) ship, but for some reason, the vibe flowed better for me and I liked its selection of restaurants.

Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line resumes cruises to Grand Bahama Island

By: Travelweek Group

WEST PALM BEACH — After a 16-month pause, Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line is finally back in the water, with the Grand Classica setting sail for Grand Bahama Island on July 24.

The ship, departing from the Port of Palm Beach, marked the line’s resumption of commercial operations and the return of its popular two-night ‘micro-cation’ cruise vacations.

paradise cruise line west palm beach

The Grand Classica previously conducted a test cruise on June 25 with fully vaccinated passengers onboard, a requirement by the CDC for cruise lines to resume operations.

Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line has implemented extensive cleanliness protocols in an effort to ensure the health and safety of all passengers and crew. Though the line has not gone so far as to require proof of vaccination for all guests, it does recommend that “if you are eligible, get fully vaccinated for COVID-19” and wait two weeks after receiving a second dose to travel. It also says that “if a threshold of COVID-19 is detected onboard the ship, the voyage will be ended immediately” and that the ship will return to the port of embarkation.

Best Bahamas Cruises

C ruises to the Bahamas are filled with sun, soft sands, and the opportunity to dip your toes in a warm and seductive crystal blue sea. The 700-island archipelago is the kind of oasis you dream of when, in my case at least, you're indoors on a cold and dark day in Cleveland. Exploring the islands is tricky by air, but much easier via ship. Bahamas cruises to take right now include quick jaunts from easy-to-get-to Florida ports as well as one-week and longer cruises that explore more deeply. You can sail there in less than a day from Florida (cruises tend to embark in the early evening and hang out at sea until the next morning ashore), which makes it both an easy escape for a quick getaway or somewhere to linger for even more rest and relaxation.

What to expect on a Bahamas cruise

The main places cruise ships visit in the Bahamas are Nassau, the capital city, and some of the islands and beaches that are affiliated with cruise lines, such as Disney's private family wonderland Castaway Cay, off Great Abaco Island. There are small ships that explore further, including to the southern reaches of the archipelago.

Cruise passengers will find opportunities to hike in national parks, enjoy nearly deserted beaches, and explore many small churches-the Bahamas boasts more churches per capita than anywhere else in the world.

In the Bahamian capital of Nassau on New Providence Island, visitors can get a better understanding of the nation's British colonial and West African slave history as well as of the Junkanoo culture and festivals at wonderful museums. Most day visitors, though, are typically focused on water attractions: heading off on diving or snorkeling excursions, boarding party boats with free-flowing rum punch, experiencing the beaches, swimming pools, and waterslides at the Atlantis Bahamas resort on Paradise Island, or trying to catch the big one on fishing charters.

On small ship itineraries, you may stop at San Salvador Island, where Christopher Columbus may or may not have made his first landing in the New World. (Historians quibble on the exact landing spot.) A white cross memorializes the supposed landing spot. Long Island, which stretches some 80 miles, has both rugged and sandy coasts and the natural attraction of Dean's Blue Hole, one of the deepest sinkholes in the world at 663 feet, a place where divers and snorkelers can mingle with turtles and tarpons. The small island of Bimini is known for its clean beaches and rich marine life-hanging out at beach clubs, seeking quiet escapes in the land, and watching for dolphins and other sea creatures are prime activities.

Other cruise destinations include Eleuthera, with its inviting pink sands and protected park areas. In addition to beaches, the 365-island chain known as the Exumas are famous for swimming pigs (though they also live elsewhere in the Bahamas).

Best Bahamas cruises

Celebrity cruises' "nassau & bimini" itinerary.

  • Best for: Upscale big ship experience
  • To book: 4-nights round-trip from Miami , from $473 per person for a veranda stateroom; from $801 per person for AquaClass; and from $2,245 per person for the Retreat
  • Islands: Nassau (New Providence), Bimini, plus Key West

Celebrity Cruises sails to Nassau and Bimini in style, and if time or money is tight, you don't have to invest too much in your Bahamas getaway. You can book, for instance, an easy, breezy four-night trip on the 2,158-passenger Celebrity Summit from under $500 per person. That said, if you splurge on a suite in the Retreat, you'll have your own sundeck with hot tub, enjoy private lounge access, and dine at the exclusive restaurant Luminae, where signature dishes by Celebrity's culinary ambassador, Daniel Boulud, are featured on the rotating menu-such as creamy carrot and ginger velouté and Moroccan chicken tagine with saffron couscous. Spa lovers might want to book the AquaClass staterooms, with complimentary access to a Persian Garden with infrared sauna and sensory showers and exclusive dining at health focused Blu, where the wine list features sustainable and biodynamic wines. While in Bimini, you might try your hand at sport-fishing, a year-round pastime from the island.

Disney Cruise Line's Bahamian Cruise from Fort Lauderdale

  • To book: 5-night Bahamas cruise from Fort Lauderdale on the 2,700-passenger Disney Magic , from $6,299 for four guests
  • Islands: Castaway Cay, Nassau (New Providence), Eleuthera

Disney Cruise Line has ships in the Bahamas year-round, starting with quick three- and four-night sailings from Florida ports. Ever since it first opened 1998, the highlight of any Disney cruise in the Bahamas has been Castaway Cay, a picture-perfect white-sand island paradise, complete with pirate attractions and Disney character appearances. What has Disney fans all atwitter is the opening in summer 2024 of a second exclusive for Disney Bahamas destination, Lighthouse Point, on the island of Eleuthera. There, Disney promises a celebration of Bahamian culture, including Junkanoo parades, characters from Bahamas folklore, and performances by local artists. An accompanying commitment to conservation at Lighthouse Point includes a solar installation that will provide at least 90 percent of the destination's required electricity (Castaway Cay also has a solar installation). Family-friendly attractions abound but grown-ups can also drop the kids off in a supervised activity program and head to the adults-only beach to sip cocktails while lounging in private cabanas.

Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection's round-trip sailing from Fort Lauderdale

On the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection's 298-passenger Evrima , you can head to the secluded dipping pool and pretend you are on your own private yacht, luxuriate in your resort-like suite, or join an intimate dance party on the Marina Terrace, located just above the sea. A seven-night itinerary in December 2023 gets you from Fort Lauderdale to Nassau, Bimini, San Salvador, and Long Island, Bahamas, with the bonus of some additional time built in to enjoy the Hemingway House & Museum and other attractions in Key West, Florida. Optional small group shore excursions in the Bahamas include an "Eco-Marine Safari" on Long Island, that combines small boat exploration of a mangrove channel and sandbars with a visit to see swimming pigs in a quiet cay. With both the cruise line and the Royal at Atlantis on Paradise Island affiliated with Marriott International , there's also a hotel tie-in-you can book a daybed at the resort's chic adults-only pool area, the Cove .

Scenic's "Island Odyssey: Bahamas to the Grenadines" cruise

  • Best for: Underwater and air exploration
  • To book: 12-night sailing in fall 2024 from $9,963 per person
  • Islands: Compass Cay, Great Exuma Island, San Salvador Island, Long Island, Great Inagua Island in the Bahamas. Also, Virgin Gorda, St. Bart's, Monserrat, Iles des Saintes (Guadeloupe), Tobago Cays (St. Vincent and the Grenadines)

The luxurious 228-passenger Scenic Eclipse features some of the best exploration toys in the industry. An expedition team runs excursions including with two helicopters and a submarine, which will enhance your Bahamas views from both over and under the sea. Or borrow paddleboards and kayaks from the ship's marina for your own solo exploration. A 12-night sailing from Nassau to Bridgetown, Barbados, starts with six days in the Bahamas, before following the yachting crowd south. Stops include Compass Cay in the Exuma Cays, where in the clear water you might see nurse sharks even from the ship. Bird lovers will enjoy a rare visit to the southernmost island in the Bahamas, Great Inagua Island, with its resident population of some 80,000 flamingos. Whiskey lovers will want to check out the ship's collection of more than 110 varieties.

To book: 7-night cruise in April 2025 , from $4,399 per person

You'll have to wait until 2025, but small-ship line SeaDream has an intriguing pair of upcoming round-trip cruises to the Bahamas from tony Palm Beach, Florida, on the 112-passenger SeaDream II . The "Bountiful Bahamas" itinerary lingers in the Exumas and around Long Island, with the opportunity to explore pristine beaches, hang out at beach shack bars, and snorkel in the clear sea. There's also an unusual visit to the uninhabited Bahamas island Salt Cay (also known as Cay Sal), only accessible by boat and some 50 miles from Marathon, Florida. In between kayaking quiet bays, try the yacht's newest attraction, an inflatable slide running from the pool deck into the water. SeaDream prides itself on cuisine and was the first cruise line with a full vegan raw food menu in addition to such indulgences as a signature l'oeuf poule au caviar (egg with caviar), grilled lobster, and filet mignon.

Virgin Voyages' "Fire & Sunset Soirées" cruise

During a beach day at the Virgin Voyages Beach Club at Bimini, private to Virgin guests when their ships visit, enjoy cocktails at the pool or a beach bonfire. Or book an activity such as a watercolor painting class, a "Views-n-Blues Mid-Afternoon Cruise" on a pontoon, an open-air tram tour of the island, or scuba dive with hammerheads. On the ship, partake in dance parties, take advantage of complimentary yoga, meditation sessions, and intense cardio HIIT classes, peruse vinyl selections on sale at the record shop, and get a tattoo or piercing when not indulging in treats at the "Lick Me Till  . . .  Ice Cream" shop. There are also six restaurants onboard, including a highly creative "Test Kitchen" where dishes smoke and sizzle, and a super-fun Korean baarbecue experience, Gunbae, complete with drinking games.

With hundreds of islands to visit, Bahamas cruises are filled with beautiful scenery, mesmerizing marine life, and relaxing beach escapes.

The Ben is home to West Palm's only waterfront rooftop. Enjoy a poolside cocktail from Spruzzo and see where the night takes you.

Find Something New to Read From the Book Butler

a stack of books on a bed

Not everyone thinks of Palm Beach as a literary city but it's where bestselling author and columnist Byrd Spilman Dewey called home. The Ben was inspired by the author and now pays homage to her through the Book Butler Program . Guests are encouraged to ring the Book Butler on the in-room phone and soon, the butler will bring up a complimentary stack of books to flip through during their stay.

Enjoy Happy Hour at Proper Grit

Talk about a Bloody Mary! Proper Grit is one of West Palm's most loved dining spots located on the first floor of The Ben. Sit outside on the patio overlooking the water for a gorgeous and relaxing happy hour.

Enjoy a Meal or Two by The Water at Charlie & Joe's at Love Street

a body of water with buildings along it

Jupiter is part of the Palm Beach area and a city you don't want to miss. Love Street is known as the Heart of Jupiter and started out as a popular fishing spot for locals in the 1960s. Now, it's where locals still like to hangout and tourists are more than welcome to join. Here, you'll find some of Jupiter's most sought-after restaurants, popular tiki boat tours, activities and everything in-between. If you're making the visit to Jupiter, Love Street is a must.

Shuck Some Oysters

Jupiter's best raw bar is Lucky Shuck , located right on the water along Love Street. It's known for its fresh seafood and craft beer for a fun night out,.

Enjoy Some Sunset Sailing

Embark on a sunset tiki boat cruise with the Love Street Outdoor Center which hosts an array of fun cruises and outdoor activities. Coast along the blue waters and see the Jupiter Lighthouse, float along the Intracoastal, Indian River or Fullerton Island. Watch for manatees, turtles and other wildlife while enjoying the beautiful Florida water. On my tour, the captain pointed out one of Olivia Newton John's former beach houses, which may have been my favorite sight to see along the tour.

Indulge in Dinner, Drinks, and a Dreamy Dessert at Beacon

a plate of dessert

Along Love Street is Beacon , a swanky chophouse located on the Jupiter Inlet waterfront with some of the best Ahi Tuna I've ever had. While it has fresh seafood that's to die for, it's also known for the bone-in pork chop and pasta dishes. Perhaps the most memorable part of the menu is the dessert options. Executive Pastry Chef Jenniffer Woo creates true artwork out of desserts. Whatever you order, whether it be the Dark Forest or the Meyer Lemon, each plate looks just like the name with a creative and tasty touch.

Mangroves & Mansions Kayak Tour

Want to get an up close look at some of Palm Beach's mega mansions? Hop aboard a kayak with Visit Palm Beach tours for an afternoon of activity. Glide beneath the Royal Palm Bridge, pass some of the area's noteworthy landmarks like the Society of the Four Arts Gardens, Worth Avenue, the Everglades Club, The Breakers Hotel, and the Flagler Museum. And don't forget your sunscreen!

Enjoy a Polo Match at the National Polo Center

a crowd of people watching a polo match

Just down the road in Wellington is the esteemed National Polo Center , one of the largest polo centers in the world. Here, they're trying to make a rather traditional sport available to everyone. You'll find eight different championship fields including the iconic stadium on U.S. Polo Assn. Field One. On Sundays, you can buy tickets to the major matches and watch some of the top players in the world compete on Field One. Afterwards, enjoy some fine dining at 7th Chukker or enjoy a drink poolside at Mallet Grille . One step onto the lush property and you'll be ready to learn all about the world of Polo.

Dine at The House Before a Round of Golf

a wine glass with a colorful drink in it sitting on table

Located on the grounds of a community golf course is one of West Palm's hidden gems known as The House . Inside, the natural wood and white and green color hues make you feel like you're dining in a retro country club, and the floor to ceiling windows overlooking the golf course offer up some great views, too. If you want the feel of an upscale diner that's more approachable with food made fresh by locals, The House is going to be your favorite spot. The restaurant offers brunch and lunch with plenty of options under $20, and a dinner menu that has everything from steak and chicken to Lobster Corndogs and pizza.

Practice Your Swing at The Park

a group of people on a golf course

Located in West Palm, The Park is an open golf course for anyone and everyone. Palm Beach is Florida's Golf Capital, so you might as well try your shot at a game while you're visiting! After lunch at The House head over to The Park Shop for some clubs and practice your swing, or, play a full game of golf. Stop by The Cabana for a drink and enjoy the green.

A Shopping Trip and History Lesson All in One at Worth Avenue

pink flowers in front of the jewelry store tiffany and co with palm trees next to it

Worth Avenue is one of the most popular spots in all of Palm Beach and arguably one of the most exclusive shopping districts in the world. Made famous in the 1930s for its luxurious clothing and tremendous spending, it helped launch some of the biggest names in fashion. It's as much of a piece of history as it is a nice place to stroll on a lazy afternoon. The premier shopping destination stretches four blocks from Lake Worth to the Atlantic Ocean. And if shopping doesn't sound like your ideal way to spend some time, you can take in some of the most gorgeous beach views just across the street, or marvel at the city's historical landmarks like the iconic clock tower, or the Four Arts Gardens just a few blocks down the way.

Create a Custom Shift Dress at Lilly Pulitzer's Flagship Store

a white kitchen dresser with lamps on it next to a wall with a framed dress and framed colorful prints

While making your way down Worth Avenue, don't forget to stop at Lilly Pulitzer's Flagship Store ! The designer and Palm Beach socialite got her start selling dresses after the orange juice stand she ran wreaked havoc on her outfits. A shift dress that was comfortable enough to work in and colorful enough to hide the juice stains became her uniform. It didn't take long for the dresses to become the it girl outfit in just about every beach town in the country. Pop in the Flagship Store to browse the latest pieces and get a glimpse into the designer's history. The best part is the in-house print studio where you can design your own custom shift dress! This is an experience exclusive to the Worth Avenue location that any Lilly fan simply must check out. Pick out your style of dress, print, and lace detailing! A designer will then work their magic to create and deliver your one-of-a-kind dream dress.

Grand Celebration Review

Review of grand celebration.

MS Grand Celebration cruise ship was constructed in Malmo Sweden (by Saab Kockums AB) for CCL-Carnival Cruise Lines . The vessel was launched under the name "MS Celebration" (aka Carnival Celebration / link to the 2022- newbuild ). Its previous operator was the Spanish company Ibero Cruises (Ibero Cruceros), subsidiary of Carnival Corporation .

History - construction and ownership

In December 2020, the vessel (IMO number 8314134) was re- flagged from Bahamas (MMSI 311000328, registered in Nassau , 2014-2020, shipowner Bahamas Paradise ) to St Kitts and Nevis (MMSI 341102000). Previously it was Portugal-flagged and registered in Madeira (MMSI 255803270, 2008-2014, shipowner Carnival Corporation), Panama-flagged and registered in Panama City (2001-2008, shipowner Carnival Corporation) and Liberia-flagged and registered in Monrovia (1987-2000, shipowner Carnival Cruise Lines).

In mid-November 2020 was unofficially announced that the ship Grand Celebration has been sold for scrap metal (for an undisclosed sale price). The vessel left Freeport Bahamas on November 15, allegedly heading to India's Alang Shipbreaking Yard (world's largest), with estimated arrival on January 3.

Reportedly, a worker at Alang revealed that the ship will be beached (tides permitting) in January's first week. However, on Nov 17, the ship's AIS continued to report "FREEPORT OPL" as next destination. On November 16, Anchor Shipbroking Inc (Greece) released a weekly report with Grand Celebration listed there for demolition. The list also included Marella Dream . On November 22, the ship's AIS reported as next destination PORT LOUIS (Mauritius Island) where it arrived and docked on December 30, at 6 am. On January 2, 2021, the 34-years-old cruise liner arrived and anchored off Alang, and on January 14th was beached for scrapping.

A total of 41 itineraries (planned roundtrips from homeport West Palm Beach, Florida USA ) were cancelled. The "2-Night From West Palm Beach to Nassau Cruise" itinerary was scheduled to be operated by Grand Celebration between March 3 and November 14, 2021.

MS Grand Celebration cruise ship (Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line)

The 1896-passenger cruise ship Grand Celebration was operated by IberoCruceros until November 2014, when it was transferred to Costa Cruises . However, on November 21, 2014 (the day before the vessel's scheduled departure on the Maiden Voyage for Costa) was announced that the ship had been purchased by an unnamed buyer. On December 23 was revealed the new shipowner - Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line Ltd .

The Holiday-class Grand Celebration had two sisterships - MS Holiday/CMV Magellan and Henna (Carnival Jubilee) . Until 2008, the vessel was named "MS Celebration" and part of CCL-arnival Cruise Line 's fleet. In 2008, it was briefly operated by the Spanish company IberoCruceros ( Carnival Corporation -owned brand/now defunct).

Grand Celebration was drydock renovated in 2008 to serve the Spanish source market under Carnival's brand Ibero. The vessel was transferred to IberoCruceros but still remained under the control of Carnival Cruises (with 75% share).

For Bahamas Paradise, Grand Celebration started operations in 2015 (Maiden Voyage on February 3) replacing Bahamas Celebration (IMO 7904891, out of service since October 31, 2014, scrapped in 2015), which ran aground in Freeport Bahamas . Bahamas Celebration was homeported in Freeport since 2010.

In April 2018, Grand Classica (fka Costa neoClassica/now Margaritaville Paradise) joined MS Grand Celebration as the 2nd ship in the fleet of the Florida-based company Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line. Carnival Celebration's sisterships (Holiday-class CCL boats) were MS Jubilee (1986-built/2017- scrapped ) and MS Holiday/CMV Magellan (1985-built/2021-scrapped).

As the only cruise ship company operating roundtrips out of Palm Beach, Bahamas Paradise provides its customers with expedited boarding (30-min embarkation/disembarkation) and valet parking (at the cruise terminal). Cruise passengers are also offered Bahamas "cruise and hotel" packages in Bahamian hotels. These deals offer 2-, 4-, and 6-night Bahamas hotel stays to be combined (booked together) with the Palm Beach roundtrip voyages.

MS Grand Celebration cruise ship (Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line)

MS Grand Celebration was operated under charter (leased) by the Bahamas-based company "Paradise Cruise Line Operator Ltd" (formerly "Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line"), that changed ownership on December 22, 2016. Among the new company's owners are Kevin Sheehan, former CEO and President of NCLH ("Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings"), who resigned NCL in January 2015. In August 2016, he became CEO and President of the Las Vegas-based Scientific Games Corporation (a leading developer of technology products and services for the worldwide gaming and lottery industries). The company's other owner (with 50% stake) is Oneil Khosa (the India-based Blue Ocean Cruises company's CEO and Managing Director). Until 2014, Blue Ocean operated short breaks (1-, 2- and 4-nights itineraries) leaving from Mumbai-Bombay and Mormugao-Goa .

In 2017, Bahamas Paradise had booked ~250,000 passengers, around half of whom were from South Florida. The liner was last drydock refurbished in 2017 (at Freeport's Grand Bahama Shipyard).

Itineraries

MS Grand Celebration itinerary program was based on 2-night / 3-day Bahamas cruises leaving roundtrip from Palm Beach (Riviera Beach) Florida USA . The regularly scheduled Florida to Bahamas cruises were initially to Freeport and later to Nassau . The vessel was the only one at the Riviera Beach port, and also the largest ever homeported there.

In the period October 2015 - September 2016, a total of 482,211 passengers booked Grand Celebration cruises. The peak month was July 2016, with a total of 54,036 passengers. The 2-night cruises to the Bahamas are the most booked (prices start from USD 130 pp).

Since Hurricane Matthew (September-October 2016) damaged Freeport, the cruise ship was diverted to Bimini Islands but resumed calling on Freeport on January 3, 2017.

Annually, Port Palm Beach received ~USD 4 million from the Grand Celebration ship in port fees and cruise parking fees. Port commissioners signed the agreement with the new shipowner (Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line) on December 15, 2016. With LOA length 223 m (733 ft), Grand Celebration was the max-sized vessel that Port Palm Beach can handle.

Decks and Cabins

Grand Celebration staterooms (751 total) are accessed via plastic (hotel-style) punch cards. Room service is complimentary, soaps and towels are provided in the cabins' ensuite bathrooms. The ship doesn't offer family or connecting cabins but has 18 wheelchair-accessible cabins, 2 of which Suites. Only 12 passenger staterooms have balconies and these are in the Suite categories. Of these suites, 4 are with obstructed by lifeboats views.

The ship has a total of 8 elevators (passenger-accessible lifts) interconnecting all cabin decks (5 out of 12).

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

The ship had a total of 5 restaurants.

Stellar Prime on Deck 8 is the main dining room, where passengers can choose between early (6:15 pm) or late (8:30 pm) dinner seating, and will be paired with other passengers. A violinist rotates between the Stellar Prime and Admiralty Club. Sommeliers are also available at both venues, but the wine list has a limited number of options for wine-by-the-glass. The restaurant is one level, with big round tables and some smaller 2-seat tables, all with white tablecloths.

Plunge Grill is a small, open-air buffet restaurant located close to the swimming pool area (La Piscina) on Lido Deck. It serves hot dogs, burgers, and fries at lunch and transforms into an omelet station for breakfast. The venue serves a late breakfast (10-11 am) and lunch items all afternoon.

Ocean View Buffet is the ship's main buffet restaurant with panoramic window seating and contemporary, furniture. This cafeteria-like restaurant has a centrally-located buffet station and doesn't have additional food stations.

Admiralty Club Restaurant is a steakhouse restaurant with a 5-course menu.

Latitude is an a la carte priced, counter-style cafe bar/patisserie located in the corner of Ocean View Buffet. The cafe serves specialty coffees with complimentary, fresh-made pastries and gelato ice-creams.

Shipboard entertainment options - Fun and Sport

The cruise ship had 7 musical venues, multiple lounges, 5 swimming pools and whirlpools, wellness center, 3 shops, 3 kids' areas. Legends Theater (850-seat show lounge) features a large stage and rotating cocktail chairs with tables for drinks. It spreads across 2 decks and has large porthole windows covered by curtains. The signature production shows change every 8 weeks, but include performances of American hits with many costume changes, plus variety acts that feature acrobats, comedians, magicians. In addition to the live performances, the theater lounge is also used for movies.

Wine tastings kick off in the afternoon, as do steel drum band performances and pool parties. Welcome aboard orientations, ship tours, martini tastings, and casino gaming lessons keep travelers occupied until the sun goes down.

Grand Celebration Wiki

The vessel ("MS Celebration"/ aka "Carnival Celebration") was launched on August 9, 1986, delivered to CCL-Carnival Cruise Lines (shipowner) in February 1987 and started its Inaugural Cruise on March 14, 1987.

MS Celebration cruise ship (Carnival Celebration)

The vessel (hull/yard number 597) was launched/floated out from drydock on August 9, 1986, and delivered to CCL in February 1987. MS Celebration's Maiden Voyage departed on March 14th (1987).

In June 2008 the boat was renamed to "Grand Celebration" and transferred to IberoCruceros ( Carnival Corporation -owned brand). In November 2014 it was transferred to Costa Cruises (as "Costa Celebration") after Carnival terminated the Ibero brand. However, on November 21 (departure scheduled as Maiden Voyage for Costa), Carnival announced the vessel's sale (to an undisclosed buyer). On November 22, Celebration was removed from Costa's website and all bookings canceled - with either full refunds or rebooking on other Costa ships. On December 23 was revealed the new shipowner - Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line/Margaritaville ( new company brand ). The Inaugural Cruise for Bahamas Paradise started on February 3, 2015 (out of homeport Palm Beach FL ).

In September 2017, the Grand Celebration, the ship was chartered by FEMA (USA's "Federal Emergency Management Agency") as a hotel ship for the US National Guard. The humanitarian mission started in St Thomas Island USVI on September 23, 2017. The charter period was through mid-December. The cruise ship re-entered service on December 23, 2017.

In 2017, FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) chartered the cruise ship for 90 days for a total of USD 25,75 million (daily charter rate USD 286,100). During the 90-day period (September through December) the vessel remained docked in Charlotte Amalie (St Thomas USVI) serving as a hotel ship for survivors following the hurricanes Irma and Maria (September 2017). The ship re-entered service for "Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line" in mid-December, continuing its 2-day Palm Beach to Bahamas cruise program. FEMA is a US Government agency (US Department of Homeland Security) created to coordinate the response to all types of disasters in the USA. FEMA overwhelms all other local and state authorities after the governor of a particular state officially request from the US president FEMA's response to the disaster.

We know that South Floridians love to bring their dogs to the supermarket, the beach and out to eat. But did you know we live in a “Pets’ Paradise”?

We do, according to “Pets in Paradise,” a show that will appear on the Travel Channel on Tuesday, April 23, and Thursday, April 25, as part of a marketing program sponsored by the Palm Beach County Tourist Development Council. The half-hour show explores dog parks, beaches, hotels, restaurants and attractions in Palm Beach County and offers insight from a local veterinarian who details how to travel with a happy dog.

The show targets travelers but also locals who can learn that their pets will be welcome at more places than they might realize. Several tourists interviewed explained how they visited South Florida to escape northern winters and were thrilled their dogs could run freely in local dog parks and beaches.

The hosts of “Pets in Paradise” visit Juno Beach’s dog-friendly beach, the Palm Beach Lake Trail, West Palm Beach’s farmers market, Palm Beach International Airport, Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach, West Boca’s Canine Cove, as well as restaurants and hotels that welcome pets with bowls of water and treats. Delray Beach veterinarian Jesus Aramendi offers tips on how to travel in cars and on planes with dogs in tow.

“There were so many more pet-friendly places than we anticipated,” said Paul Waide, a vice president at Apex Productions, the Riviera Beach-based company that produced the episode. “All these places welcomed us with open arms.”

If the episode gets lots of views, Waide said Apex hopes to find sponsors who will help produce shows in other pet-friendly destinations across the country.

“Pets in Paradise” will air on the Travel Channel at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, and Thursday, April 25.

Michelle Hillery, Palm Beach County’s film commissioner, said “Pets in Paradise” will air on several South Florida media outlets, including thepalmbeaches.tv , which showcases county destinations, and on streaming services run by local hotels, the Palm Beach County Convention Center and Palm Beach International Airport.
