It was such a relief knowing that we never had to worry about the next day of travel. So again, “THANK YOU” !!

african safari tours from australia

I have arrived back from my Southern African holiday……a customised trip organised by The Africa Safari Co., a trip through South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana and into Namibia.

Everything worked like clockwork, a true testament to The Africa Safari Co. and their contacts, and their knowledge of Africa. Every guide was there on time, and highly visible, to greet me at the many meeting points throughout the journey. Every booking accurately made, and a well documented itinerary. The itinerary selected by them was varied, engaging, and full of the excitement and mystery promised in all the stories, movies, books and fantasies we all have as children, while growing up, and as adults.

Thank you The Africa Safari Co. …… a truly memorable time.

Terre Wohling

My first time to Africa and The Africa Safari Co did not disappoint! I explored Namibia and the staff on the ground there, the transport, accommodation & activities were all exceptional! If you are considering an African adventure most definitely use The Africa Safari Co!

african safari tours from australia

We spent 3 weeks in Africa, and 2 of those were travelling with The Africxa Safari Co. We started with 3 days in South Africa. Picked up at the airport on time, taken to our accommodation. Spent the next two days being shown around with a wonderful guide. Off we went then to Botswana, for another 3 days. We stayed at Kasane at the Bakwena Lodge. OMG this place is AMAZING! We saw all of the big 5 other than rhinos, within the first two days! We then went to Victoria Falls and yet again we were blessed with great accommodation and I’ll definitely be back and highly recommend this company!

We have just returned from a wonderful safari in Kenya. The organisation of the tour by The Africa Safari Co. meant that nothing was left to chance and all we had to do was enjoy our holiday. Thankyou The Africa Safari Co.

african safari tours from australia

I have travelled twice with The Africa Safari Co. The first in 2015 when we went to Uganda Gorilla & Chimp Trekking and again in 2017 to Tanzania & Kenya. With 25 years experience in Africa their product knowledge is amazing and the staff really know their stuff. When putting itineraries together they offer great suggestions to work within time and budget restrictions. The local ground operators have been fantastic, very friendly with a great knowledge of the game and areas we travelled. If you are looking for an amazing Africa experience don’t look any further than The Africa Safari Co.

I just wanted to let you know, George and Ana have returned from their honeymoon, and they said it was everything they hoped for and more!

They were so happy with everything, and I’d like to thank you and Susie for all your recommendations and expertise in putting this together.

Your documentation was also the best of any I’ve ever received.

So a big thank you and I look forward to putting my next Africa booking with you!

Tailor-Made Tours & Safaris

From the signature savannahs of East Africa teeming with plains game, marvellous landmarks of ancient civilisations, tropical white sand beaches along the warm Indian Ocean, endless deserts with sand dunes burning red at sunrise, lush rainforests echoing with the calls of birds and primates, vibrant cities alive with a colourful melting pot of cultures – there is nowhere else on the planet with such incredible natural beauty and rich cultural traditions as Africa. Whether you join a  scheduled tour  or discover your own Africa on a  tailor-made trip , a visit to this magical continent is guaranteed to take your breath away.

So many of the world’s great beasts call Africa home so a trip to Africa is not complete without a photographic wildlife safari. Embark on a spectacular African Safari to search for the well-known “Big 5” — the lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo — which were originally grouped together for being the most difficult to hunt but are now simply thrilling to watch in their natural habitat. However, there are hundreds of other animal and bird species to encounter in Africa, each playing an important role in its local ecosystem.

Don’t forget to tick off the “Ugly 5” – the warthog, hyena, vulture, wildebeest and Marabou Stork. Or the “Little 5” who are named in contradiction to their Big counterparts and encourage safari goers to look at the smaller species present in the African wilderness – the ant lion, leopard tortoise, elephant shrew, rhino beetle, and buffalo weaver. And if you’re very lucky you may see an elusive member of the “Shy 5” – the porcupine, bat-eared fox, aardvark, meerkat, and aardwolf. Witnessing exotic wildlife up close and personal in their natural habitat on a true African Safari is the experience of a lifetime!

Contact Eclipse Travel today to plan your perfect African Tour. We’ll tailor your holiday experience according to your preferences, time, and budget to take you on a holiday you’ll never forget.

Exellent and wonderful, reaching way above expectations.

Julia you did a fantastic job - everything was first class. Well organised, efficient and stress free. We all agreed it was the best holiday we've ever had. Cant wait to travel with CSC again.

We are so happy we put our trust in CSC, we had an amazing adventure and would recommend them to anyone.

The trip exceeded my expectations and was the best family holiday I have ever had. Our children simply loved it and now I know more about African wildlife than they do about our own farm animals.

Classic Safari are the people who genuinely know other culture and offer incredible insight to perfectly meet your expectations.

We loved it all. Our son wants to go back tomorrow. We would ALL go back again!

An amazing experience - the best family holiday we have ever had. We were extremely impressed by the meticulous attention to our itinerary. I can't speak highly enough of all the elements of this exciting journey!

Thank you for making our trip to Africa so spectacular. The attention to detail really made it special. It really was the trip of a lifetime.

Very knowledgeable and patient. Our trip was all that we hoped for. Wonderful!

Everything was perfect! Advice and information on destinations and activities hit everything I had hoped to experience. I contacted the Classic Safari Company upon recommendation and have now, in turn, recommended to others.

You can't improve on perfection. I had my best birthday and holiday with my family celebrating my 80th birthday in Africa. Everything that Julia organised was perfect and the whole trip was a highlight!

The trip of a lifetime, couldn't have dreamt of a better adventure if I tried.

Absolutely everything was first class & so well organised.

Classic Safari Company has done it again! A unique experience that ticked all the boxes - wildlife, culture and dining experience. A dream come true!

Their experience and knowledge of Africa is evident and we couldn't have been happier with the total package. This has given us a taste for Africa - now we are ready for more.

If you want the most sensational experience in Africa let Julia and the staff at Classic Safari Co plan it for you! Their knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm for their job means your every wish will be fulfilled.

Classic Safari is the place to go to for "top end" adventure travel.

Classic Safari Company were brilliant - 10/10

The Classic Safari Company is the best I have dealt with. Extremely knowledgeable & professional, friendly, patient & understanding of first timers to Africa.

It certainly was the best trip we have EVER had. The experiences were mind blowing.  We want everyone we know to experience Africa - the animals, the people - magical.

Would do it all again and not change a moment. Best holiday ever!

An absolutely fantastic travel company - every one of the many trips they have organised for us over 22 years have been faultless and fabulous.

Elephant herd with 3 young calves walking across the Serengeti on a dusty day

Souqs, savannas, safaris and the Sahara – the lure of Africa is its diverse wildlife, thousands of cultures and breathtaking landscapes.

Originally meaning ‘to travel’ in Arabic and Swahili, the word ‘safari’ can describe many types of epic adventure in Africa. There’s the ancient Egypt kind – discovering the lost city of Abu Simbel and the Valley of the Kings. The nomadic one – veering away from Morocco’s souqs and medinas and being hosted by a Berber family in the Sahara. The local village version – cherishing moments of interaction with Maasai , San and Malagasy cultures. And, of course, the wildlife way – heading in search of the Big Five in any number of game reserves and parks: Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Kruger and Lake Nakuru, to name a few. What does your African adventure look like?

African Safari Packages from Australia

Typically there are two types of African Safari Packages from Australia to choose from either Escorted Tours or Tailor made Independent Tours. With so much choice in today’s market here is an overview to help you decide which is right for you.

Guided Tours

Set dates and numbers of guests:.

African Wildlife Safari Tours depart on scheduled departure dates and have a minimum and maximum number of guests per tour. Look out for guaranteed departure dates as these are a great bonus if you have a tight schedule booking in advance and pre and post arrangements of the African Wildlife Safari Tour. Departures that are not guaranteed maybe cancelled due to lack of bookings and you will be offered alternative dates or itinerary which may cause disruption and expense to your plans.

Africa Safari Packages from Australia

African Safari Packages are priced accordingly to the season, inclusions are stated and a variety of standards catering for all budgets. The peak seasons is governed by the highest demand due to annual summer and school holiday vacation times, local festivals, movement of wildlife and weather. Less departures are scheduled in the low season though it offers great value for money. During the low season your experiences and choice maybe limited due to the weather, access and wildlife movement. For example the movement of the Great Serengeti Migration, road access during the green in the South Luangwa National Park Zambia and the rainy season for Mountain Gorilla Trekking.

Detailed itinerary on hand:

The African Safari Package itineraries are pre-booked by the operators and have detailed day to day itineraries available online and hard copy making it easy to read up on the highlights of the places to experience, inclusions, departures and cost.

Friendship and support:

Escorted Tours offer travellers friendship and support while travelling in foreign countries and are a popular choice for solo travellers seeking adventure with like minded people. Many tour operators including Abercrombie & Kent offer solo travellers no single supplement on some departures of their African Safari Packages.

Not flexible:

The itinerary is not flexible due to being pre-booked including departure times from accommodation, set times for meals, often 1 -2 night stays in each location and limited free time to immerse yourself with the local communities.

Early bird booking discounts often apply to African Wildlife Safari Tours

Exclusive access:

High end tour operators including Tauck Tours and Abercrombie & Kent often arrange exclusive access to major sights and performances for their guests

Larger camps and lodges:

Escorted Tours generally have 18 – 25 passengers and due to demand of rooms required the camps and lodges are larger and breakfast and lunch are often buffets. Intimate boutique camps have only 4 -5 tents and not able to accommodate larger groups.

Covering the cost of the Tour Escort:

Generally African Wildlife Safari Group Tours will have a Tour Escort in addition to the local guide/driver. The Escort is there to deliver a stress free adventure for travellers and their travel expenses are covered for by the passengers on the tour.

african safari tours from australia

Tailor Made and Independent Packages

Each individual traveller has specific needs and visions for their African Safari Package and a tailor made package gives you the freedom to plan an authentic and personal African Adventure.

Value for Money:

Tailor made African Safari Tours offer value for money by staying within budget and having the flexibility to vary the styles and standards of camps and lodges. For example you have dreamt of sleeping in a tent in the African Wilderness and waking to the sounds of a lion roaring, a hippo munching on grass and experiencing remote wilderness

Ecotourism African Travel Experiences:

Ecotourism in Africa offers travellers the opportunity to directly contribute to the protection of the African wildlife, wilderness and local communities. Operators who are exceeding at delivering this generally are smaller and give guests a private personal experience.

african safari tours from australia

Personal pace:

Travelling alone or with family and friends we all have individual needs and vision of this African Safari Adventure. Some love early starts and some love to sleep in, photographers sit for hours at a African Wildlife sighting waiting for the perfect image, others happy to point and click with their IPhone, the kids want to have an afternoon off have a swim and some us just want to head back early and enjoy the sun set in camp. All is flexible when designing your Tailor Made African Safari Package with your travel advisor.

Independent Stay in small camps:

Private driver and vehicles, fast track through immigration, hand held all the way if you prefer, restaurant recommendations and others like the adventure of a self-drive with choice of a hire a car or 4×4 safari vehicle.

Your personal guide and drive:

Subject to the style of African Safari independent tour organised you are able to have a private guide and driver for the duration and choose to fly between camps. They cater exceptionally well for multi-generational families, celebrations, photographers, honeymoons and travellers who like to learn about Ecotourism in Africa and contributing to local communities. Africa offers are stunning range of private homes and villas fully staffed or self-catering.

Disabled and dietary requirements:

Your travel advisor will hand pick the suitable accommodation that caters for a range of disabilities, flexible meal times, dietary requirements including anaphylactic, shorter safaris, diverse activities and suitable vehicles.

Elephants crossing road in Kenya

See the world’s greatest animals

From spotting the Big Five of Africa to the big cats of Asia, a wildlife holiday is one of the world’s most thrilling experiences. Our Local Specialists will take you from the leaping wildebeest of the Serengeti and the giant elephants of Botswana, to the white rhinos of Namibia and the lions and leopards of Zambia. Venture east to India, and you’ll encounter hyenas, bears and the mighty Bengal tiger.

Flamingos and buffalo, wildlife of Kenya

Explore spectacular landscapes

You’ll go on safari in some of the most beautiful places on earth with our safari tours. See the Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, the world’s largest waterfall, or Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, the highest peak in Africa. Explore the dense forests of Ranthambore in India, the rolling mountains of South Africa, and the blazing dunes of the Kalahari Desert in Namibia.

Lions in South Africa's National Park

Go beyond the wildlife and landscapes to discover the cultures of the places we go. On our safari trips you'll connect with the culture like visiting a Swazi Chief’s village in eSwatini, or meeting the Maasai warriors of Kenya and watching a powerful jumping display. Learn how to drum and speak Xhosa in South Africa, or meet the OvaHimba tribe in Namibia and gain insight into their ancient hunter-gatherer traditions.

All you need to know about Safari Tours

Are african safaris dangerous.

Every African safari trip has an element of danger, but it’s easy to stay safe if you follow the basic safari rules. Always keep your entire body in the vehicle, don’t make any loud noise, turn off your camera flash, don’t walk around at night alone, wear boots and socks in the bush, and always listen to your safari guide.

Is Safari better in Kenya or Tanzania?

Both Kenya and Tanzania are excellent destinations for your African safari travel experience, as both are home to the Big Five and the Great Migration. While Kenya is known as a superb place to see big cats, black rhinos and exotic animals like the sitatunga, Tanzania has the world's largest concentration of animals, including the largest concentration of cheetahs and unique animals like tree-climbing lions and African wild dogs.

What is the best month to go on an African safari?

The best time to go on an African safari tour varies between the different seasons of East and Southern Africa. Generally, the best months to go are the dry season months of June to October. During this time, animals migrate and are easier to spot as they gather around the few remaining water sources.

What is the best place to go on safari?

The best places to go on a safari holiday are Kenya and Tanzania where you can see the Big Five and the Great Migration. You can also spot the Big Five and other incredible wildlife in South Africa and Zambia. We love going on water safaris in Botswana, seeing desert-adapted wildlife in Namibia and spotting tigers in India.

ROBBEN ISLAND EXCURSIONS

This morning after breakfast, you will embark on an excursion to Robben Island, the unique symbol

of “the triumph of the human spirit over adversity, suffering and injustice”. Robben Island is visited every year by thousands of people eager to understand and honour the important aspects of South Africa’s history that it represents.

After our Robben Island tour, we will head off to the Constantia Winelands where we stop at Groot Constantia. Groot Constantia is the oldest wine estate in South Africa and a provincial heritage site in the suburb of Constantia in Cape Town, South Africa. "Groot" in Dutch and Afrikaans translates as "great" in English. Here we will do a cellar tour, wine & chocolate tasting.

Dinner tonight is a chic African experience. Dining begins with the drumbeat of the djembe drum. An interactive drum circle offers you the opportunity to join in and learn how to play the djembe. In no time at all you will be drumming with the rest of Africa! After drumming for a while, you will be lead into ancient courtyards where your hands are ceremoniously washed before eating. The cuisine is authentically Cape Malay and African and is served by beautifully clad waitrons in African style baskets. As you dine you will be entertained by the live performances near your table. Guests are welcomed to Gold by the Mali Puppets who sing and dance in time to the drum beats.

TIPPING Tipping may not be your custom, or the custom of your home country, however it is significant in many parts of the world for roles in tourism. It’s customary to tip tour service personnel including your group tour leader, driver, local guides, restaurant staff, and hotel porters. It’s also appreciated to leave small tips for room attendants and restaurant wait staff.  We appreciate that for many travellers tipping is awkward, and they are unsure about how and what amount to tip.

Tipping for some tour services are included in your tour package however it does not cover your tour leader.

Your Tour Leader As tipping is customary, please recognise your tour leader’s good service, and the custom of tipping tour leaders, and tip them at the completion of your tour. Your tour leader is away from home for the duration of your visit and tipping is a part of recognising this dedication.

ABOUT THE MEALS  It’s regular that our trips included welcome dinners and farewell dinners for our groups.

On this trip, the majority of your meals are included. There’s nothing better than to share a meal with new friends and discuss the day’s adventures.

Are you a flexitarian? If you have dietary requirements, please advise if it is due to allergies or for medical reasons or if it is a personal preference and if you are flexible. GROUP GUIDE Cape Town For the days in Cape Town a local guide is provided. Usually the guide in Cape Town is a different person to the guide for the safari days.

On Safari This is a private group tour and is fully escorted with an English speaking professional safari guide and a safari driver for a group of 8 to 12 passengers. Your guide will provide sightseeing commentary and in addition be the liaison for all tour services. If the group falls below 8 passengers in total then a combined driver-guide will operate the safari.

The role of your guide  to lead the group, take charge of all the trip logistics on tour, and of course, make sure the trip runs as smoothly as possible so ultimately you have the best possible experience. From time to time, as is the nature of travel, ‘hiccups’ can occur, such as unexpected delays to due to traffic congestion, unexpected weather conditions that make a change of plans necessary, and many other things that go hand in hand with travel. In these circumstances your group leader will do their utmost to make the best possible alternative plans – please be ready to accept that these situations are out of the control of anyone and trust in your group leader to assist as best as possible.

TRANSPORT In Cape Town, South Africa While touring Cape Town you will be transported by mini buses.

In Johannesburg For the 2 night stay, a different vehicle is used. It is a minibus.

On Safari From Maun, once on safari, a safari vehicle is used.  From Maun to the safari destination and returning to Maun, an open sided game-viewing vehicle is used. Once departing Maun, for the rest of the tour a 12-seater safari vehicle is used, unless the group is 4 or less passengers and a smaller vehicle is used. As a note, the activities in Chobe are done with the Lodge vehicles (also open safari vehicles).

Boat rides are also included with this itinerary.

LUGGAGE RESTRICTIONS Maximum baggage allowance 15kg A soft bag must be used.

Encounter Travel stipulates this luggage allowance, as an overloaded vehicle is a danger to both the travellers and the guide. Please bring a backpack or soft barrel bag, not a suitcase. Don’t bring too much clothing, as there are washing opportunities along the way. Please adhere to the allowance specified as space for luggage is limited.

This does not include photographic equipment and a small daypack.

Airline Luggage For airline luggage restrictions refer to your ticket details. Please note that the maximum luggage weight for touring may be less than the airline maximum limit.

ABOUT MOBILE PHONE USE / INTERNET  You may like to purchase a prepaid sim card to take with you while travelling. Otherwise, ask your phone provider about International Roaming packages/offers for your mobile phone.

SIM cards or international roaming packages can be good options to keep in touch with friends and family back home.  Be sure the sim card you purchase will cover all the countries you are travelling to.

Many hotels these days offer WiFi—some for free, others for a modest fee.

During the time on Safari, wifi maybe limited in some areas.

WhatsApp If you don’t already use this service, we recommend downloading this application also. It’s a mobile phone App that offers fast, simple, secure messaging and calling for free (data charges may apply – ask your phone provider).

As a general indication, for many of our tours, our guides use WhatsApp to communicate with the group. Visit our  Travel Guide
