In 1960, Fred DeNure left a partnership he had with a cousin, RJ Trailways to pursue an operation of his own. Fred was awarded the contract to provide bussing to local schools in the Kawartha Lakes, with a fleet that would grow to more than 70 school busses. At this time, DeNure Tours was formed, offering its first multi-day sightseeing tour to Atlantic Canada.

Florida has long been nicknamed Canada's 11th province and in 1965, DeNure began operating coach tours to Florida. DeNure’s ‘Sunshine Holidays’ escorted Canadians by motorcoach down to the sunny south for an escape from the cold winters. In 1981, the Daytona “Sunshine Express” program debuts, shuttling guests from the cold Canadian winters to long-stay vacations in Daytona Beach, Florida. This program becomes so popular that just a few short years, it was expanded to weekly departures to Florida, later laying roots in Destin, St.Pete Beach and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

In 1966 Fred, Dorothy and their three children embarked on a 6-week tour of the southern USA in a converted school bus, resulting in many new itineraries designed. In 1967 with a handful of itineraries, DeNure Tours introduced its first brochure that included journeys to Florida, California, Newfoundland and Atlantic Canada. Many of the tours in Eastern Canada included a visit to Expo 67. In 1972 the school bus division was sold to concentrate solely on sightseeing, offering popular destinations in both Canada and USA, including a new tour to Alaska.

1984 – UK and Europe

If you’ve ever had the chance to meet or travel with Harry Simmons, then I’m sure you’ll join DeNure Tours in wishing him well as he enters retirement this month.

Harry has been with DeNure Tours for almost 30 years and during that time, he created and organized delightful holiday experiences throughout Britain and Europe. During his travels with DeNure guests, he has shared the unique spectacle of the Edinburgh Tattoo, acquainted them with Germany’s famous Rhine, and raised a glass of local wine as he introduced the beauty of the Italian coastline.

But even more importantly, Harry maintained a quick wit, shared an endless knowledge of history and literature, and was meticulous in ensuring that the tours exceeded our guests’ expectations.

Harry often said that there were three steps to a memorable holiday: planning the trip, taking it, and re-living the vacation through the stories, friendships and memories that were made. I know Harry has featured prominently in many of these great memories, and he will be missed by staff and passengers alike.

2009 – Business expands to include custom and groups

2018 – first hiking tour for a custom group, 2019 – first hiking tour is offered in a brochure, 2021 – deluxe hiking is born.

A new division is established to concentrate exclusively on active hiking tours.

After moving back to Canada in 1987, Janet began her tour directing duties, which has allowed her to travel through Canada, USA, Britain, and Europe. “I love Newfoundland and have been fortunate to visit over 50 times.” Janet states, “the people, the scenery including the ocean and the mountains, whales, and icebergs and the seafood is the best you can find. If you haven’t been to Newfoundland, I highly recommend it, it is amazing.” After all of the years spent travelling, Janet still enjoys looking after guests, “I have seen many changes over the years but my favourite part of the job is still the passengers. Every trip I meet new and familiar people and I’m happy to get to know them and to help them enjoy their vacation.” Janet looks forward to meeting you on her next adventure.

Barb Bruce has had an exceptional 25 year career hosting the many wonderful guests along the way. Growing up in the resort business, she developed the love of people at an early age, which she contributes to being the highlight of her job, “my favourite parts of being a tour director are learning & experiencing the fabulous destinations, but most importantly working with our travel partners & enjoying the company of our guests, our extended DeNure Family.” When asked where her favourite places in Canada were, she said “there are so many beautiful places in Canada it is honestly difficult to pick just one. Quebec & Newfoundland of course, but also Western Canada. Crossing through our magnificent Rockies is breathtaking! The serene snow-capped mountains, emerald-coloured lakes & wildlife to name a few.” Barb’s travel advice is to, “enjoy creating new friendships, fond memories & having a funtastic time in our journey together!!!”

Carole Skinner

Born in Dundee, Scotland, Carole Skinner moved to Canada as a child and put her Scottish roots to the test when she became a professional teacher of Highland and Scottish country dancing. Gaining management experience while operating a dental practice, Carole moved onto her role as Program Director for an entertainment company. This job entailed extensive travel throughout the Southwest U.S.A. and a successfully organized trip to Scotland. From 2007-2014, Carole and a partner organized and conducted Scottish tours for Ontario travellers. Planning these tours connected Carole with DeNure Tours and she started working for the company as a Tour Director in 2014. As a TD, Carole has guided tours across Canada, the USA, Scotland, Ireland, and cruises to Bermuda, the east coast and Alaska. Her favourite place to visit in Canada is Newfoundland, “I love the scenery in Newfoundland; the people there are so friendly they make you feel like you have come home.” When asked what she enjoys about being a tour director, Carole says, “I love meeting new people and hearing their stories. It’s always fun when you have a guest on a tour that has been with you before.” Carole is eager to make your trip a warm, pleasant, and memorable experience.

Howard Herman

With a career that began in the world of accounting and finance and with no interest or background in the tourism industry, Howard Herman is now a Canadian travel expert whose knowledge expands over 30 years. Howard started working with DeNure Tours in a temporary data entry position. Since then, he has worked in the reservation and operation departments and for the past 12 years has been the Tour Development Manager and a Tour Director. “It is true that this industry gets into your blood,” Howard states, “I love travelling and sharing my passion with our guests. While I love all of our tours, two of my favorites are the Calgary Stampede and Canada’s Maritimes. The scenery in the west is spectacular and the thrill of the Stampede is like nothing I have ever experienced before. When you go east in Canada there is so much to see and experience from the music of a kitchen party in Miramichi to the amazing natural beauty of Hopewell Rocks. The history of Lunenburg or Peggy’s Cove, and the most welcoming people you will ever meet. I look forward to exploring some of my favorite destinations with you on one of our tours.” When Howard is not busy working, he enjoys spending time with his family, baking, teaching part time for St. John Ambulance, and travelling.

Floyd Walden

Floyd Walden was born and raised in Lindsay Ontario. A social country lad, close to the land, with a keen interest in geography, led him to a 35-year career in education including 3 years in a one-room school teaching all eight grades before moving to the secondary panel. Growing up in a rural community, country living led him to operate a cow-calf farm with the help of his three sons. Floyd began tour directing part time in the late 90’s during the summer months while supply teaching and has now been guiding tours for 20 years. Tour directing has taken Floyd throughout North America; his favourite place to visit in Canada is Newfoundland with its rugged landscape, quaint villages, and most of all its people—so happy, open, and welcoming. Tour directing is a natural fit for Floyd who loves people and enjoys sharing this knowledge with his signature sense of humour.

For a longer season of sunshine, beaches, and mood-boosting benefits, DeNureTours in Lindsay is offering sunshine destination packages to Florida and South Carolina, that will make you forget fallen leaves and the frost.

After all, the birds aren’t the only ones who need to migrate south to keep warm.

Throughout fall and winter, DeNureTours offers a variety of departures to Daytona Beach and St. Pete Beach, Florida, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina — all ideal vacation spots that offer the perfect combination of popular local attractions, fun day excursions with fellow Canadian travellers, and time to unwind poolside or on the sandy beaches that DeNureTours’ sunshine vacations are known for.

Bringing guests to these southern locales has been part of the travel agency’s business for over 50 years. DeNureTours’ long-stay resort programs in Florida and South Carolina continue to be popular for those looking to escape the Canadian chill.

Each destination resort overlooks the ocean and offers activity programs and shuttle transportation. Each destination resort overlooks the ocean and offers activity programs and shuttle transportation. All properties have kitchen facilities, and each features a swimming pool, whirlpool, elevators and an activity room to meet with a DeNureTours representative and socialize with fellow guests.

Not sure which of the three destinations to choose? Maybe you want St. Pete’s white-sand beaches, or Daytona’s stunning sunrises, or the southern charm of Myrtle Beach.

“Each Sunshine Vacation destination has its own unique features and flavour,” says Mary Kay McGuinness, a tour director at DeNureTours for over 25 years and the Canadian Coordinator for Sunshine Vacations.

“If you’re looking for a little clarity and inspiration to get your trip planning started, a DeNure representative can help you find the getaway that is ideally suited for you.”

DeNureTours will get you to your Florida and South Carolina destination by the travel mode that best suits you, whether by flying or travelling in their comfortable luxury motorcoach (pictured here) that gets you there in a day and a half. (Supplied photo)

You also get the flexibility of creating the vacation of your dreams by choosing your departure date and location, timetable, tours and duration. The pace of each tour varies by itinerary, as each destination and its activities are unique. With DeNureTours’ extensive catalog, you can add whatever extras you like.

You can travel hassle-free knowing that DeNureTours has taken care of all the “little things” so you don’t have to, which will make the difference so that your trip is exceptional, explains McGuinness.

“When planning a trip, every detail is important. We’ll save you the time and effort of doing the research and planning on your own. We want to ensure that the moment of enjoying your vacation starts right when you book with us. All you have to do is relax and enjoy it.”

DeNureTours will get you to your Florida and South Carolina destination by the travel mode which best suits you, whether it’s by their comfortable luxury motorcoach (which gets you there in a day and a half), or by flying. When booked through DeNureTours, your flight price to St. Pete and Myrtle Beach also includes return transfers between the U.S. airport and the resort.

McGuinness says everything you need is provided once you arrive: accommodation, shuttle transportation, an on-site DeNureTours representative, activities and social events, and much more. DeNureTours staff are highly qualified and competent to pay attention to the needs of guests, including any unexpected situations that may arise.

“Being meticulous with the travel details shows our commitment not only to the vacation, but also to our guests and the staff who work at the individual destinations,” says McGuinness.

Named by the New York Times as one of the best places in the world to visit, St. Pete's sun-soaked beaches, calm Gulf waters, eclectic culinary scene (notably, the seafood) and sunset vistas are a winning combination. (Supplied photo)

While you may be miles away from home, you can expect your resort to have all the conveniences of home.

Relax and focus on making memories with scheduled events, or take part in social get-togethers like wine and cheese receptions, bingo or movie nights with fellow Canadians in the DeNureTours hospitality suite. The hospitality suite is open all day and guests are encouraged to use it as a meeting place.

The activity shuttle bus is available to all guests, for many local excursions, shopping and dinner outings. The shuttle bus drivers are friendly and helpful, offering local information and their personal knowledge of the area they call home.

With the trend towards more immersive extended vacations, a DeNureTours Sunshine Vacation is the perfect amount of time to get a taste of local flavour. DeNure representatives will give you a variety of “locals-recommended” things to do.

“You’ll see much more than just the town you’re staying in,” says McGuinness. “These destinations are full of incredible food, music, sights and people. You’re going to want to use that time to soak up as many experiences as you wish, as opposed to just coasting through.”

Many Canadians prefer travel to south of the border because of the familiarity to their own culture, language, and currency, notes McGuinness.

The soft white sand of Myrtle Beach stretches along the Atlantic for 96 kilometres. The best views of the Grand Strand are from the top of the 187-foot-high SkyWheel, the centrepiece of the Oceanfront Boardwalk and Promenade. (Supplied photo)

When trying to entice Canadians to visit the U.S., she says the first thing she does is remind them that it’s more affordable than they think.

“Yes, people travel relative to the strength of the Canadian dollar and what they’re used to paying in exchange rates, but guests know what they’re going to pay upfront when they book a DeNureTours vacation,” she says.

Sunshine Vacations become repeat destinations because guests develop an emotional attachment to these spots through amazing experiences they’ve had with family, friends, and DeNure staff, she adds.

“There’s comfort, safety, and less risk in familiar places.”

And, should you experience a medical emergency while travelling, a DeNureTours on-site representative is stationed in all destinations to offer assistance with organizing travel back home to Canada and resolve any queries or problems that may arise during your stay.

DeNureTours is currently offering multiple departures to Daytona Beach and Myrtle Beach for fall 2019, and has added St. Pete Beach to the roster for winter 2020. Here are some highlights to anticipate on each visit.

St. Pete Beach, Florida (10 Days, 17 Days, or 24 Days)

Named by the New York Times as one of the best places in the world to visit, St. Pete’s sun-soaked beaches, calm Gulf waters, eclectic culinary scene (notably, the seafood), and sunset vistas are a winning combination.

Explore the neighbourhoods of St. Pete Beach using the Suncoast Beach Trolley. Discover the shops on Corey Avenue, or enjoy a visit to John’s Pass — a turn-of-the-century fishing village with great dining, superb shopping, dolphin watching, and fabulous fishing.

Nearby Pass-A-Grille is a historic beachfront paradise at the southern tip of St. Pete Beach: a quaint spot dotted with beach boutiques, surf shacks, and art galleries.

See the area’s many museums including the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg Museum of History, and The Dali Museum. If you have a green thumb, explore the winding paths and cascading waterfalls of Sunken Gardens, St. Petersburg’s oldest living museum at one hundred years old.

At Fort DeSoto Park, fish from two free piers, 24 hours a day, and hike a seven-mile stretch of wilderness that inter-connects five islands.

Get retail therapy shopping the Ellenton Premium outlets of 130 stores, visit the historic community of Tarpon Springs, catch a hockey game in Tampa or a Blue Jays game in Dunedin, or try renting your own speedboat or hiring a charter for inshore or deep-sea fishing.

Daytona Beach, Florida (10 Days, 17 Days, or 24 Days)

Home of the “the world’s most famous beach” and jaw-dropping sunrises, Daytona draws sunseekers, beach lovers, socialites, and active adventurers from all over. Visit the Daytona Beach Pier, an historic attraction along the 37-kilometre stretch of hard-packed sand.

From motorsports to music to food, Daytona Beach is home to over 60 renowned festivals. Explore the sights, sounds, and flavours of the Fiesta Italiana, Halifax Art Festival, Celtic Festival, Oyster Festival, Daytona Turkey Run Car Show and Swap, Riverfest Seafood Festival, and many more.

For the outdoor enthusiast, try your hand at parasailing, paddle boarding, ocean kayaking, surfing, jet skiing, scuba diving shipwrecks, or snorkelling artificial reefs.

If fishing is high on your list, cast a line from the pier or by charter for tarpon, sailfish, redfish, spotted sea, and trout. Troll inshore amid the mangroves, or go guided deep-sea fishing and bring back dinner with an amazing tale.

You’ll want to visit the 1887 Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse and Museum (Florida’s tallest) that provides gorgeous views 53 metres above the Atlantic, or maybe the Marine Science Center which boasts a 5000-gallon reef aquarium and a stingray touch pool.

See the Museum of Arts & Sciences which pays tribute to speed, history and space, showcasing a mishmash of Cuban art and American memorabilia, or take a relaxing stroll along the historic boardwalk, an esplanade of entertainment built in 1920 with its famous coquina rock bandshell amphitheatre.

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (10 Days, 17 Days, or 24 Days)

Aside from its southern appeal, Myrtle Beach is known for its great entertainment, shopping, dining, and attractions.

The soft white sand of Myrtle Beach stretches along the Atlantic for 96 kilometres. The best views of the Grand Strand are from the top of the 187-foot-high SkyWheel, the centrepiece of the Oceanfront Boardwalk and Promenade.

Visit Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet, a favourite destination with over 9,000 acres of breathtaking natural beauty. If you want to shop ’til you drop, don’t miss the Market Common, the Coastal Grand Mall, Barefoot Landing, or Broadway at the Beach, which has 350 acres of one-of-a-kind boutiques along the water.

Try your hand at golf with over 100 meticulous Myrtle Beach courses, enjoy unique and delicious dishes at one of the many surf shacks or lounges, or stroll the heart of the historic Murrells Inlet fishing village, where the MarshWalk serves up live entertainment and savoury Lowcountry dishes set against rustling palmettos and golden grasses at sunset.

Feeling adventurous? Take a day trip to Charleston (two hours south of Myrtle Beach) to experience a horse-drawn carriage ride down charming cobblestone streets, preserved in history and lined with pastel antebellum houses. The spectacular gardens and gigantic oaks hung with Spanish moss give Charleston its distinctive charm. And don’t miss a visit to the French Quarter or the Battery.

If you’re ready to plan your sunshine vacation adventure this fall or winter, book your trip with DeNureTours.

DeNureTours shows off deluxe motorcoaches to 140 agents

Post date: Jul 3 2014

Date: Jul 3 2014

By: Travelweek Group

LINDSAY, ON — For DeNureTours ‘seating is believing’ and the company was able to show off its deluxe motorcoaches to over 140 Ontario agents during Familiarization Days in June.

Agents had the opportunity to experience the DeNure Difference during a day trip to Stratford where they had lunch at the local Country Club, attended a matinee performance at this world-renowned theatre festival and topped off the day with a reception before returning home.

“While the DeNure team can explain the many differences between our tours and others, we felt it was easiest to just show agents what we are all about,” said Jill Brett, President of DeNureTours. “After 54 years in business, we know that people are looking for a comfortable ride, a seamless tour experience where the details are taken care of, and of course a fun time exploring something new. Our familiarizations days offered agents the opportunity to experience just that.”

DeNureTours recently released a publication outlining the updated prices and departure dates for long-stay programs to sunny Florida and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. These packages include return motorcoach transportation to the south, a prospect that may not initially appeal to everyone.

“However, agents were shown just how relaxing and comfortable the trip can be when travelling on a DeNure motorcoach,” said Brett.

To order copies of this and other brochures, visit the Envoy website at envoynetworks.ca , call 1-800-668-6859 or order them online at denuretours.com .

DeNureTours specializes in creating tours and cruises throughout North America, Britain and Europe that feature many included meals and activities, and most importantly, a pace suited for an older clientele.

Description

A family-owned canadian business.

Fred and Dorothy DeNure began operating sightseeing tours in 1960 with destinations that included day trips in the Toronto area and longer tours to Atlantic Canada. The business has grown to include further-reaching destinations throughout North America, Britain and Europe. Fred and Dorothy’s son Ray DeNure is presently overseeing the operation of the company as it continues to grow and thrive.

The DeNure Tours headquarters is located in Lindsay, Ontario, just 90 km north-east of Toronto.

Where We Travel

Florida has been an important part of DeNure’s touring business since 1965. DeNure Tours purchased property in Daytona Beach in 1973 and has become well known for ocean-side, stay-put holidays ever since. We refer to these stay-put type of ocean-side holidays as Winter Longstays, and we expanded to include Myrtle Beach in 1997, St. Petes Beach in 2007, and Destin in 2011. These warm destinations are popular for the economical transportation provided on our Express Motorcoaches.

In 1984, DeNure Tours expanded to include innovative Touring Vacations in Europe. Destinations include England, Ireland, Scotland, the British Isles and Italy.

Cruises and coach tours began with DeNure Tours’ Alaska program in 1985, and expanded to include Bermuda and the Bahamas. Then, DeNure Tours combined its Express-based, stay-put holidays with Caribbean Cruises to come up with unique and popular holidays. Recently, DeNure Tours has added River Cruising to the list of holidays for people to enjoy.

A Unique Motorcoach Focus

DeNure Tours is unique in the motorcoach business because it focuses exclusively on touring and it uses its own coaches. This ownership of coaches allows better control over the touring elements of transportation, itineraries and staffing which makes way for a smoother, more care-free holiday. Owning the coaches and focusing exclusively on touring provides superior service to the customer.

DeNure Tours is a proud member of the Ontario Motorcoach Association and the American Bus Association.
