Sunset over the River Thames - 4 day London itinerary

Visiting London for the first time? Wondering what to see in London in 4 days? I’ve got you covered!

This 4 day London itinerary covers everything you’ll need to make the most of your time in the British capital.

From a day by day list of activities to tips on how to get around the city, the best places to eat and where to stay, this London 4 day itinerary will be your best travel companion.

London is definitely my kind of city: hectic, multicultural, creative, and always reinventing itself. It is posh and sophisticated but also rough and untamed.

I visited it twice already, and counting!

The first time I stayed for a whole week and hit all the top attractions, museums and parks. This was more than 10 years ago, but I still remember it fondly.

Last time, I spent 4 days in London with my boyfriend. It was his first time in the UK, so I ended up seeing many of the same places, but also explored some new neighborhoods and exciting areas.

The result is this 4 days in London itinerary to help you plan and enjoy your own trip to the UK’s capital.

The ultimate 4 day London itinerary for 1st timers

How to get around london.

First things first: how to get around London without getting overwhelmed.

London has a great public transportation network and you can virtually get anywhere in the city with the tube or bus.

The easiest and cheapest way to travel on London public transport is by using your contactless debit or credit card and pay as you go.

Just swipe your bank card at the ticket barriers when entering and exiting the tube and when entering the bus, and you’re good to go.

Contactless payment is very convenient – no more waiting in line to buy a ticket – and makes you feel like a local.

At the end of each day, your card is charged for the total cost of the journeys you made that day. The fare is the same as Oyster cards, as well as the daily cap.

Contactless cards also have a 7-day cap from Monday to Sunday.

View from Millennium Bridge - 4 day London itinerary

If you don’t have a contactless card or if your bank charges overseas transaction fees, your next best option is to buy an Oyster card.

A Visitor Oyster card has an activation fee of £5 and can be ordered online here and delivered to your home address before you travel to London.

If you decide to buy your Oyster card in London you’ll have to pay a £5 deposit, which you’ll get back in cash once you cancel the card.

If you’re staying in central London for 6 days or more, buying a 7-day Travelcard that you can load on your standard Oyster card (this option is not available for Visitor Oyster cards) can save you money.

The 7-day Travelcard costs exactly the same as the contactless card 7-day cap, but it can start any day of the week, while the contactless 7-day cap runs only from Monday to Sunday.

Ok, now that we’ve covered the basics of the London public transportation system, we’re ready to start exploring.

Pro tip: If you’re planning to visit two or more London attractions, you may also want to get the London Explorer Pass to save yourself time and money.

Day 1 – Hit the top attractions

Tower of london.

Start your four days in London by visiting the city’s top attractions.

Among them, the Tower of London stands out as one of its most important monuments.

Dating back to the 11 th century, the tower, which is actually a fortress, is a great introduction to the history of London.

It had many uses over the years, from palace and royal residence to prison and site of execution.

Today it’s home to the Crown Jewels and the Royal Armories, and one of the most visited sights in London.

Arrive early to beat the crowds and watch the unlocking of the tower ceremony that takes place daily at 9 am.

You can buy your ticket to the Tower of London here.

Tower of London - 4 day London itinerary

Tower Bridge

Just a short walk from the Tower of London, Tower Bridge is an iconic symbol of London and another must-see.

Built between 1886 and 1894, this beautiful bascule bridge over the River Thames is one of the most famous bridges in the world.

The Tower Bridge Exhibition tells the story of the building, including a visit to the old steam engines now replaced by electricity.

The upper glass floor walkways offer panoramic views of London, as well as a unique perspective of the bridge and the river below.

Tower Bridge - 4 day London itinerary

Cross the Thames and stroll along London’s South Bank for the best views over Tower Bridge and the city’s skyline.

Besides gorgeous views, South Bank offers a great peek into London’s fascinating street life.

It’s one of my favorite walks in London.

I love wandering through its food markets and book fairs, admiring the street art, watching the street performers, and just taking in the vibrant energy of the area.

Borough Market - 4 days in London

Millennium Bridge

Inaugurated in 2000, the modern Millennium Bridge is the youngest of the many bridges crossing the River Thames.

Made of steel, this beautiful pedestrian bridge connects the Tate Modern, in the South Bank, with the City and St. Paul’s Cathedral, in the North Bank.

Millennium Bridge - 4 days in London itinerary

St. Paul’s Cathedral

The remarkable St. Paul’s Cathedral is one of the most impressive buildings in London.

It is the most important and largest church in the city and the second-largest in the country.

Its dome dominates London’s skyline and is one of the highest in the world.

Over more than 300 years, this majestic cathedral has witnessed many state funerals and royal celebrations, including the wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana.

St. Paul’s Cathedral’s outstanding interior and the 360-degree views of London make it well worthy of a visit.

You can buy discounted fast-track entrance tickets to St. Paul’s Cathedral here.

London skyline with St Paul's Cathedral - 4 day London itinerary

Back to the South Bank, enjoy a ride on the London Eye for some breathtaking views of the city.

The London Eye is the tallest Ferris wheel in Europe and the second-highest viewpoint in London, after The Shard, so you’re bound to have an exciting and fun experience.

It’s also the most popular paid tourist attraction in the whole of the UK.

Make sure to buy your tickets in advance to avoid waiting in line.

Book your ticket to the London Eye here and avoid the lines.

London Eye - what to see in London in 4 days

Houses of Parliament

The sight of the magnificent Palace of Westminster, home to the Houses of Parliament and the famous Big Ben, is impossible to miss from the South Bank.

This sumptuous neo-Gothic style palace is one of the best-known buildings in the world and the epicenter of British political life.

It is the seat of the House of Commons and the House of Lords, the two chambers of the Parliament of the UK.

But its most famous feature is the clock tower commonly named Big Ben.

At the time of my visit, the tower was undergoing maintenance work (which was expected to continue until 2020) and was completely covered except for its clock.

But don’t let this put you off visiting this spectacular palace.

You can take a tour of the building or, even better, watch a debate when the Parliament is in session (free of charge).

Book your tour of the Parliament here or check the Parliamentary calendar here .

Houses of Parliament - what to do in London for 4 days

Westminster Abbey

End your first day in London in another one of its most prominent landmarks.

Westminster Abbey was one of the places that impressed me the most on my first visit to London.

As beautiful as rich in history, the church has a special aura about it.

It is the place of coronation for all British monarchs since the 11 th century. The Coronation Chair, dating back to the early 14 th century, can be seen here at the Lady Chapel.

Most monarchs until the 18 th century were also buried at Westminster Abbey, as well as many national figures, from writers like Geoffrey Chaucer and Charles Dickens, to scientists such as Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, and, more recently, Stephen Hawking.

Over the centuries, 16 royal weddings were celebrated here, the last of which was in 2011 between Prince William and Kate Middleton.

You can buy your Westminster Abbey entrance ticket here (with free cancellation).

Westminster Abbey - what to do in London in 4 days

Day 2 – Royal and political London

Changing of the guard at buckingham palace.

On your second day in London, wake up early and get ready for a quintessential London experience.

The Changing of the Guard takes place every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday at 11 am, on the forecourt of Buckingham Palace, the official residence of Queen Elizabeth II.

The ceremony, which includes Foot Guards in red uniforms and bearskin hats and an accompanying musical band, lasts around 45 minutes and is very popular.

Arrive at least 30 minutes earlier to get a good spot.

I need to be honest here and tell you I found the whole thing a little too long and boring, and Buckingham Palace a bit underwhelming, at least from the outside (I didn’t visit inside).

But this is one of those experiences you need to have at least once.

The Changing of the Guard is free of charge.

You can get a ticket to the Queen’s Gallery at Buckingham Palace here.

Buckingham Palace - London 4 day itinerary

St James’s Park

Next, have a pause at St James’s Park, one of the four royal parks that spread around Buckingham Palace.

St James’s Park is one of the loveliest London parks.

Its lake is home to ducks, geese, swans, and even some pelicans.

Rent a deckchair and enjoy the wildlife and the views of the city.

Please be a conscientious traveler and do not feed the wildlife. This may seem like a harmless thing to do, but it can really make the birds sick and destroy their ecosystem. So please, don’t.

St James’s Park - four days in London

No 10 Downing Street

From St James’s Park, head to Whitehall.

This street connecting Parliament Square to Trafalgar Square is considered UK’s political center.

Many government departments and ministries have their address here, as well as several memorials and monuments.

Make sure to take a peek at No 10 Downing Street, the official and famous residence of the British prime minister, and at the next door Cabinet Office.

Downing Street - London itinerary 4 days

Trafalgar Square

Trafalgar Square is London’s most important and vibrant square.

It’s also the best spot in London for people and city watching.

I love sitting here after a walk through the city and watching the world go by.

The square is a meeting point for street performers, sports celebrations, political protests, festivals, and Christmas and New Year’s Eve festivities.

So there’s always something going on here any time of the year.

The National Gallery, one of the biggest and most visited art museums in the world, is also located here.

I visited it during my first time in London and can’t recommend it enough.

Admission is free for all London public museums, including the National Gallery.

Trafalgar Square - 4 day London itinerary

Covent Garden

The colorful Covent Garden district is a hub for shopping, food, and entertainment.

It’s easy to spend hours here browsing the high-end boutiques and independent stores, eating and drinking in one of the many restaurants, pubs, and bars, or seeing a musical in London .

If you’re short on time head to the lively Covent Garden Piazza, the central square where street performers vie for attention and an old fruit and vegetable market is now a popular shopping center and craft fair.

Covent Garden - 4 days London itinerary

Chinatown and Soho

End your day with dinner in Chinatown and a drink in the bohemian Soho.

London’s Chinatown may not be as big as New York’s or overwhelming as Bangkok’s, but it’s certainly worthy of a visit.

Soho is London’s most famous nightlife district. The area is home to world-class restaurants and some of the best bars and clubs in the UK capital.

Chinatown - 4 days in London

Piccadilly Circus

Before going to bed, make one last stop at the nearby Piccadilly Circus to admire the famous video and neon signs.

During the day, Piccadilly is one of London’s busiest squares and traffic junctions.

After dark, its proximity to many theatres and nightlife areas makes it a popular gathering point for people of all ages.

I must confess Piccadilly Circus impressed me much more when I first visited London in 2005.

Over the years, the number of advertising signs has been decreasing due to higher rental prices, and now only one building has them.

Nevertheless, it remains an emblematic and mandatory place to visit in London.

Piccadilly Circus - 4 days in London itinerary

Day 3 – Go shopping

Notting hill.

The third of your 4 days London itinerary starts at one of the most picturesque and Instagrammable London neighborhoods: Notting Hill.

The cute pastel houses, trendy shops, and charming pubs look like straight out of a movie set. And in fact, they were, more than once.

Spend your morning strolling along Portobello Road, shopping at the famous Portobello Market, and visiting famous film locations, like the romantic bookstore that inspired the 1999 movie with Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant.

Saturday is when Portobello Market is at its best, but Notting Hill is lovely any day of the week.

The district is also famous for the iconic Electric Cinema, the oldest cinema in the UK, and Notting Hill Carnival, which takes place annually on the last weekend of August.

If you’d like to explore Notting Hill like a local and learn more about the area, I highly recommend taking a walking tour with a local expert guide .

Notting Hill - things to do in London in 4 days

Oxford Street

In the afternoon, head to Oxford Street for some more shopping.

With more than 300 stores, Oxford Street is London’s major shopping avenue and the busiest commercial street in all of Europe.

You can’t leave London without visiting this shopper’s paradise and spending some money here.

End your shopping excursion at Liberty, the most beautiful department store in London.

Located in a Tudor-style house, the upscale Liberty is, however, as charming as expensive.

But the unique atmosphere and gorgeous goods are worth the visit itself.

I’m not much of a shopper myself but I loved this place so much and couldn’t resist buying a thing or two from the beauty section as a souvenir.

Liberty - things to see in London in 4 days

Day 4 – Explore the East End

Columbia road.

Dedicate your last day in London to exploring the alternative and multicultural East End.

Start at the picturesque Columbia Road and admire the Victorian buildings and the bright wooden shop facades.

On Sundays, the popular Columbia Road Flower Market takes over this otherwise quiet street with hundreds of plants, colors, perfumes, and a lot of fun.

Columbia Road - things to see in London in 4 days

Brick Lane is famous for its curry houses and multiethnic immigrant population that settled here over the centuries.

Also known as Banglatown, it is the center of the Bangladeshi community in London, which explains the many curry restaurants you can find along this street sometimes called the UK’s curry capital.

Brick Lane Great Mosque, which was over time a church, a Methodist chapel, and a synagogue, is another testimony of this multicultural past.

Today, Brick Lane attracts also a young and artsy crowd, with its street art, galleries, nightclubs, and vintage markets every Sunday.

Brick Lane - what to see in London in 4 days

From the birthplace of the hipster subculture in the early 2000s to the creative and tech hub that is today, Shoreditch surely remains one of the coolest London neighborhoods.

Street art and art galleries, quirky bars and trendy restaurants, independent boutiques and vintage shops, tech startups and popular nightclubs, co-working spaces, and the world’s first pop-up mall (the Boxpark) make up the vibrant atmosphere of Shoreditch.

This was my first time in Shoreditch and I absolutely loved it.

I definitely recommend spending some time here shopping, eating, drinking, or just enjoying the district’s unique energy.

Another great option is to join a street art walking tour of Shoreditch and Brick Lane to see some Banksy murals, among many other artists.

Shoreditch - London 4 day itinerary

Tate Modern

End your day at the Tate Modern, one of the largest and most popular modern art museums in the world.

Located in the South Bank, in a former power station, the Tate Modern has an impressive collection of more than 60 thousand art pieces, including works by Andy Warhol, Picasso, Matisse, or Salvador Dali.

The permanent collection is on constant rotation, meaning that even if you’re visiting for a second time like I was, you’ll always be surprised by something new.

The terrace on the top floor offers stunning panoramic views of London and is just one more reason to visit the museum.

Admission to the permanent exhibition and the viewing deck is free of charge.

View of London from the Tate Modern

If you have more time in London

Madame tussauds.

I know it’s cheesy, but I always have a lot of fun at Madame Tussauds wax museum.

I love taking pictures with all the celebrities and this time was particularly impressed with the Star Wars experience and the 4D movie.

Book your ticket here and skip the lines.

Madame Tussauds wax museum - four days in London

Regent’s Park

Right next to Madame Tussauds, Regent’s Park is a beautiful green area including the lovely Regent’s Canal, a central lake, sports pitches, Queen Mary’s Gardens, and an open-air theatre.

It’s also a great place to roll out your yoga mat and practice amidst nature.

Regent's Park - London itinerary 4 days

Camden Town

Located in North London, Camden is a lively and captivating district whether day or night.

Camden Market is one of the top attractions here.

Recommended places to eat in London

So restaurant, soho.

We ate here on our first night in London with our friend Chiaki, a Japanese journalist based in the UK’s capital.

According to her, So Restaurant is one of the best and most authentic Japanese restaurants in London.

I’m no specialist, but I can tell you everything was absolutely delicious.

And I even learned to eat sushi the proper way: with my hands and not with chopsticks.

Forge & Co, Shoreditch

This restaurant slash bar slash coworking space conquered us with its delicious food, friendly staff, and laid-back atmosphere.

We had the lunch menu and really loved the food and local feel.

This is the perfect place to take a peek into Shoreditch local life.

Lunch menu at Forge & Co - four days in London itinerary

Borough Market, South Bank

Borough Market is the oldest and best food market in London.

From fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, and fish, to cheese, pastry, and street food from all over the world, this place is a foodie’s paradise.

The full market is open from Wednesday to Saturday, with Saturday being the busiest day. On Mondays and Tuesdays, only a limited market takes place.

Monohon Ramen, Old Street

This unpretentious ramen restaurant in the East End was another recommendation from our friend Chiaki.

She has been living in London for a year now and considers this to be the best ramen place in the city.

This was my first ramen experience, and I surely couldn’t have asked for a better start. I’ve had ramen again since then, but nothing that compares to the quality of the one I ate here.

Highly recommended!

Ramen at Monohon Ramen - London four day itinerary

Canela, Covent Garden

We found this place by chance and were pleasantly surprised.

Canela is a small and cozy Portuguese restaurant in the heart of Covent Garden.

They serve classic Portuguese dishes with a modern and sophisticated touch.

We had mushrooms filled with chorizo and fresh herbs topped with São Jorge (Azores) cheese, traditional smoked game sausage with fried quail eggs, and Canela’s classic salt cod, potato, egg, and salad.

As a Portuguese myself, I can guarantee you everything was just perfect!

Afternoon Tea

Afternoon tea is a quintessential London experience and you can’t possibly visit the British capital without indulging in this delicious treat.

You can go for high tea in almost every hotel and many restaurants and bakeries around the city. If you’re a vegan or vegetarian, there are also several great options for a vegan afternoon tea in London .

Where to stay in London

The east london hotel.

This stylish hotel located in Bethnal Green, within walking distance from trendy Shoreditch and just a short tube ride from central London, is perfect for those who want to stay close to all the action.

Recently inaugurated, The East London Hotel offers great value for money in one of London’s most vibrant areas.

Some rooms are on the small side, but you probably won’t spend much time inside anyway.

There’s also a restaurant and cocktail bar on-site.

Click here for more info and booking.

The Resident Soho

The Resident Soho is an affordable luxury boutique hotel situated in the heart of another exciting London district: Soho.

The hotel is also just a 2-minute walk from Oxford Street, the city’s main shopping artery.

Close to all the top attractions and to some of the best shops, restaurants, bars, and clubs in London, this 4-star hotel offers comfortable and spacious design rooms, with an en-suite bathroom and free wi-fi.

If you’re looking for smart luxury combined with a great location, look no further.

What to do in London for 4 days, where to eat, and where to stay – this detailed itinerary covers it all. Now all you need to do is pack your bags and go.

From my side, I promise it won’t take me another decade to get back to London!

Discover the best yoga studios London has to offer with our insider’s guide.

The stresses of big city life are numerous and complex. Some people choose to alleviate themselves of that stress by blasting it out of their system at weekend-long raves, others choose yoga.

If you’re in the latter camp you’re in the right place. We’ve put together a guide of all the best yoga classes and studios in London. Whether you’re in this to really sweat it, achieve enlightenment or just pick up some sexy yoga hunk or honey, here are the best places for it.

London Yoga Studios

Mission .

Spitalfields

Mission Yoga

Mission changed the London yoga game with the opening of their frankly enormous yoga studios.

They’re the biggest yoga studio London has to offer. And even the largest such space in Europe, with a floor plan of over 14,000 square footage, five separate studios, expansive changing spaces with saunas and a restaurant for after-work-out meals.

The space was set up by students and practitioners of yoga, so they knew what sort of things they’d need to make the space a success. And a success it is, boasting some of the best yoga instructors in the UK teaching from their rooms and a heap of different classes and styles to choose from.

Location varies, but always inside zone 1

Puppy Yoga

Whoever came up with this idea must have been slightly mad and probably a bit of a genius. At Puppy Yoga , you’ll be taking yoga classes surrounded by the sweetest, most adorable puppies. The only problem is that they can get mischievous.

Classes tend to start with a straight-up yoga session so you definitely get your money’s worth in terms of stretching and sun salutations. Then the dogs are let loose.

Your next session is the hard part. Can you manage a full yoga class with cute baby dogs running around on the mats beneath you, licking your face as you try to remain zen as a monk on a vow of silence? It’s not easy, but it certainly is fun.

More Yoga

Citywide

View this post on Instagram A post shared by MoreYoga (@moreyoga_)

More Yoga is a citywide yoga company with a commitment to providing affordable yoga classes around the city, a noble pursuit as learning yoga in London can often be off-puttingly expensive.

They have studios at 35 locations across London and that number keeps growing. With that much space, they offer over 1000 classes every week so you’re sure to find something on their schedule that fits your time and the style of yoga you want to get down with.

Hotpod Yoga

Hotpod Yoga

If you’re looking for Bikram yoga , London has plenty of choices. One of our top picks for what is sometimes known as hot yoga, is Hotpod Yoga .

Gone are the mats and wooden studio floors of your regular yoga joint. At Hotpod you’ll be doing hot yoga in an inflatable pod kept at a stable 37°C, flooded with ambient lighting and music paired to the rhythms of the class.

They’ve been tried and tested by plenty of reputable sources and are regularly voted one of the best yoga classes London has to offer. It may not be everyone’s first choice but for hot yoga, you can’t do much better.

Ashtanga Yoga London

Euston

Ashtanga yoga is a pretty popular form of yoga to study so you’ve got quite a lot of choice in London if that’s the style you want to learn. You should, though, consider Ashtanga Yoga London.

They are a small community that is dedicated to spreading the philosophy of yoga. They do that by teaching yoga in its traditional forms, maintaining a strong link to Indian teaching but doing so in an inclusive way that’s welcome for all – and that includes all abilities.

The classes are small and personal, and above all, peaceful.

Yogarise

Peckham & Streatham

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Yogarise | London Yoga Studios (@yogariselondon)

If you’re looking for free yoga classes, London will be tough on you. It’s rare that you find anything more than a taster session for free in this city. It’s also rare that you find yoga classes as cheap as they come at Yogarise .

The organisation was set up as a community yoga program with the goal of making the practice more widely accessible to people who can really benefit from it. In that respect, they do a lot of charity work and outreach, so you can assure your money will go to the right places.

Classes are run out of Peckham and Streatham with multiple teachers and styles of yoga to choose from. Best of all you’ll rarely have to pay more than a tenner for a class, and it’s easy to find classes for as little as two or three quid.

London Buddhist Centre

Bethnal Green

View this post on Instagram A post shared by London Buddhist Centre (@ldnbuddhist)

One complaint we often hear chucked around about yoga in London is that it’s so far removed from any of the spirituality that the practice has roots in. When looking about at all the business-types in expensive yoga gear flexing to EDM-techno-yoga, it’s not hard to see these complaints come from a pretty real place.

If you’re looking for a return to something a bit more in touch with the spiritual side you can’t do better than the classes on offer at London Buddhist Centre .

They don’t have the range of classes on offer that some of the other places in our guide do, but what you’ll get is teaching from people who’re in this for all of the health benefits and none of the insta’ flex. As well as access to what we can only assume is the single most relaxing yoga retreat London can offer.

Flying Fantastic

Peckham, Bankside, Wimbledon

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Flying Fantastic: Aerial (@flyingfantastic)

If you’re after aerial yoga London has, you’ll be pleased to know, plenty on offer. One place that does it exceptionally well is Flying Fantastic . They actually teach all sorts of aerial sports and exercises, and one of them happens to be aerial yoga.

They offer classes to practitioners of all levels, whether you’re just starting out or already a flying ace. The benefits are many and include all of that good stuff like increased spinal health and core strength. In spite of being hung, often upside down, aerial yoga is actually very relaxing.

Don’t believe us? There’s only one way to find out.

Iyengar Yoga London

Maida Vale

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Iyengar Yoga London Maida Vale (@iyengaryogalondon)

As a more niche style of yoga – one that prioritises strength and alignment over the need to fly or stretch out with puppies – finding a good Iyengar yoga class in London can be a touch difficult.

If that’s what you’re looking for though, you need to be heading to the very centre of it all: Iyengar Yoga London . They’ve been running classes for over thirty years, ever since the original practitioner B.K.S Iyengar first taught in this very same school.

They only have one studio – in Maida Vale – so it may not be ideal for people looking for yoga classes nearby, but what you do get is a range of classes for all levels and some teachers that are very serious about what they do.

Practical Tips for Yoga in London

Yoga

  • You should shop around a bit. To really get into yoga and reap all the benefits you’ll have to find the class that suits you. That might be one that’s intensive or one that prioritises the more relaxing elements, it might be flying or puppy yoga, it might even be the one closest to your front door.
  • Give the schools a call before you start. The instructors should be able to give you a bit more information about their styles of yoga than we can.
  • The above point is especially important if you’ve got any injuries. You should always let your teacher know so that they can work around you with the stretches and activities. You don’t want to hurt yourself any further.
  • Read the room. As you can probably see, London offers yoga classes for every kind of occasion. Some of them are more serious than others. If your goal is mostly social or to pick up phone numbers for your next fling, it’s probably not best to begin training under someone at, for example, the London Buddhist Centre.

TESTIMONIALS

Adventure well(ness), frequently asked questions.

U.S. passport holders will need to show a passport valid for six months  after  the arrival date in Bali, a return ticket and at least two empty stamp pages in your passport.  If you do not have the validity or appropriate number of blank pages, please apply for a new passport in plenty of time for your trip. As of June 2015, U.S. passport holders are exempt from needing to get a visa as long as the travel is strictly for tourism purposes and the stay is less than 30 days.  Visa regulations have been hit or miss for travelers and the ultimate decision for the need to obtain a visa-on-arrival is up to the immigration officer when you deplane.  It is recommended that all travelers carry enough U.S. cash to pay for a visa should the officer deem it necessary.  The current visa-on-demand cost is $35US, however we’d recommend carrying $50 in case of a price change.  Please check the  State Department  for up to date information. Citizens of all other countries should check with their government for entry requirements.

Make all travel arrangements into Denpasar (DPS).  Please be aware that you will need to depart the US one to two days before the start of the yoga retreat, depending on the flight schedule you chose.

Bali utilizes the standard British plug (two flat blades and one flat grounding blade) and the European plug (two round pins) and is at 230V.  Adapters  will be necessary if you are taking any electrical items.

While we hope you’ll try and unplug… yes, there is wifi access on both of our properties.

Because of its location, Bali tends to have fairly stable weather with the ‘wet’ season occurring between October and April and the ‘dry’ season between May and September.  It is generally always hot with temperatures hovering in the mid to high 80s and up.

Yes!  Of course.  Once you’re booked you’ll receive an email with important logistical information and a link to your invoice.  You can pay any amount at any time on the invoice; you can use it as a payment plan or leave it alone until the final due date. Remember that deposits are non-refundable so, on all trips, we recommend purchasing travel insurance.

Melissa is a yoga, meditation and reiki teacher based out of Hartford, CT and has been sharing these beautiful healing modalities since 2012. Melissa loves helping others live authentic lives filled with love and connection through yoga, meditation and reiki.

Years ago Melissa found herself in a rut struggling with anxiety, insomnia and chronic neck pain. Going through the motions of life frustrated and unhappy, one day she asked herself “is this as good as it gets?” The universe seemed to respond quickly as she soon found herself in a yoga class breathing, twisting and turning without a clue as to what she was doing. After that yoga class, the light bulb went off as she walked out blissful and hopeful! Melissa had no idea that she had just taken her first steps onto a new path that would completely reshape her life. Melissa was hooked, and that feeling has been bringing her back to her mat every day! Melissa began practicing yoga and meditation regularly and could see that her life was changing, she was sleeping better, was less anxious and her neck pain disappeared. In a short amount of time, she was feeling fantastic and truly enjoying life.

The A1 is the longest road in the UK and runs through England and Scotland, starting in London and stretching all the way to Edinburgh. It is part of the larger A1(M) motorway, which was built in 1959 to improve safety and reduce congestion.

Over the years, the A1 has become a major route for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and long-distance travel. This can result in congestion and higher risks of collisions. As a result, the UK Department for Transport has implemented various initiatives, such as variable speed limits and the introduction of smart motorways, to improve the road networks safety.

According to the latest figures released by the Department for Transport, there were 83 fatalities and 1,306 serious injuries on the A1 between November 2016 and October 2017. This represents a 36% reduction in fatalities and a 13% reduction in serious injuries compared to the previous year. Over the same period, there were 418 recorded incidents, meaning that the A1 is one of the safest roads in the UK.

The 5 Best Yoga Studios in London

A metropolis bursting with ambition, opportunity and plenty of places to let your hair down, it’s no secret London is one busy town. I t should come as no surprise then that the wellness scene is also thriving, with Londoners keen to retreat from the frenetic pace with some much needed  yoga . We’ve tried and tested the best yoga studios London has to offer and chosen our top five, so you can easily find your way to the mat whether you are a local or a visitor to Britain’s lively capital.

Annie Scott

Total Chi in central London feels more like a spa oasis in the busy centre of town. Image © Annie Scott

Total Chi |  243 Baker Street, London

Small but perfectly formed, Total Chi is a tiny oasis of tranquillity in bustling central London. A relatively new joiner to the London fitness scene, it has 2 studios and offers yoga, reformer and mat Pilates 7 days a week. Wander past the daily queue for the Sherlock Holmes Museum next door and step into a white haven of all things good.

Total Chi feels more like a spa than a yoga centre. The staff is incredibly friendly, and its top-notch changing rooms are stocked with fluffy towels, Malin and Goetz products and even complimentary razor blades. Free bottled water is provided pre-class and don’t expect to even have to roll out your own mat.  There’s a chill-out zone stocked with yoga magazines and thought-provoking books – and the juice bar offers clean drinks and snacks, as well as Monmouth coffee (in my opinion the finest coffee in London).  The maximum class size is 8 – so classes are never crowded and it’s easy to ask for help or advice during a class.

Both yoga studios look out over a tiny Zen garden and I never fail to emerge refreshed and re-balanced. Classes on offer range from warm vinyasa to power yoga, kundalini, yoga for stress, pre-natal yoga, yoga nidra and even yoga for kids. The teachers are carefully vetted and the teaching is of an exceptionally high standard.  A real find when it comes to the best yoga studios London has hidden away.

Triyoga is a big name in the London yoga scene with five studios spread across the capital. Image © Annie Scott

Triyoga | Multiple Locations

From its beginnings in London’s fashionable Primrose Hill in 2000, Triyoga has grown to become the big daddy of the London yoga scene, boasting five yoga centres across the capital. With its distinctive purple branding and buzzing vibe, Triyoga really is a hub of all things mind, body and spirit, offering everything from osteopathy and massage to healthy lunches and even its own teacher training programme.

Virtually every style of yoga is taught here, and at all levels. Everyone is catered for from beginners to teachers. Mats are provided, although this is a busy centre and some are a little warn. If you have your own it’s worth bringing it.

Triyoga also offers mat and equipment pilates, barre classes and, most recently, Gyrotonic classes, a movement class using a “pulley tower”, that feels like a hybrid of reformer pilates with a yoga twist.

The centres also offer meditation and mindfulness classes and a wide variety of workshops, ranging from a few hours to a few days, through which you can deepen different elements of your practice, or just learn something new.

The treatment rooms cater for every need you can think of for mind and body, whether you’re looking for physiotherapy, acupuncture, reflexology, homeopathy, cognitive behavioural therapy, diet advice or even a massage or facial. Triyoga has excellent therapists and offers it all.

The Camden, Soho and Chelsea centres also have cafes offering healthy snacks or a post-yoga smoothie. And if you’ve forgotten your yoga pants don’t worry! Each centre also has its own shop, stocked with great quality yoga gear as well as skincare, books and even jewellery.  Something for everyone.

Indaba  |  18 Hayes Place, Marylebone, London, NW1 6UA

I first discovered Indaba through its workshops – I love the variety on offer here. From gong baths, chanting and connected breathing, to yoga basics and Ashtanga introduction – all of yoga life is here. Which feels appropriate, given Indaba means “gathering”. I’ve had my eye on their various headstand courses for a while, as this particular skill still eludes me.

Indaba feels like a “proper” yoga centre. Friendly, clean and more of an authentic spiritual vibe than some of its more commercial feeling friends in London. Conveniently located behind Marylebone Station, you may wonder where you are when trying to find it – but once inside you’ll find a surprisingly spacious and welcoming space.

The centre also offers treatments and healing – from the traditional to the more “out there”, just reading the menu of options makes me smile. Head to Indaba for sports massage of hot stone therapy – or take the plunge with ancestral healing or transformational breathing. Indaba encourages you as far as you want to go on your spiritual journey. Namaste.

Yotopia | 13 Mercer Street, London

Simple and modern surroundings offering yoga and hot yoga in pretty Covent Garden .  Covent Garden is a great area of yogis. A tourist mecca and shopping hotspot, the area as a great alternative culture if you know where to look. Crystal shops rub shoulders with high street chains, yoga studios are dotted around above the busy streets and nourishing organic food is never far away.

Yotopia is an excellent, straight-forward yoga studio. Lots of natural light and good clean equipment, functional changing rooms and great teaching.   It offers a wide range of yoga styles and different levels, including an excellent beginners course. I took my first tentative steps on the mat at Yotopia when I was working nearby and really benefitted from the welcoming and encouraging atmosphere the studio promotes. Without this, I may not have continued what has been such a life-changing journey for me.

As well as daily classes, Yotopia offers a number of workshops, many of which focus on the spiritual side of yoga. Gong baths, mediation and chakra work are all on offer.  A simple, elegant studio where things are just done well.

Good Vibes | Multiple Locations

Good Vibes focuses its attention on “Glow” yoga and pilates. The crux of this approach is the gentle heat of the classes, achieved using cutting-edge infrared heating, which encourages the body to open. The first studio in Europe to offer this technology, Good Vibes also use SAD lighting to improve one’s mood – an excellent benefit in the depths of the UK’s winter months! Although class sizes are large, there’s something about the atmosphere here that makes it feel cosy and intimate. The dark wood floors and great lighting make you feel tucked away in womb-like safety.

As the name suggests, these studios are all about positivity. Students are encouraged to focus on what feels good in the body, rather than worrying about achieving the perfect pose – which, for me, is what makes great yoga teaching.

The facilities are functional but good. Mats are clean, good quality and pre-laid out (so no awkward “where shall I put myself” moments) – but remember to bring a pound coin for the changing-room lockers.

Classes are busy so book in advance. Teaching is concentrated mainly on Vinyasa flow but other yoga styles are also on offer – including “yang and yin” and candlelit “bliss” classes for the ultimate wind down. The studio also offers mat pilates and “ballet burn”.

Practical workshops are also available – from meditation, arm balancing, and breathing, there’s a number of options to deepen your practice in a way that’s less “woo woo” than some of its more spiritual sisters. A friendly, warm, fun and positive studio.
