It is located in the Shevaroys range of hills in the Eastern Ghats. The highest point in Yercaud is the Servarayan temple, at 5,326 feet (1,623 m). It is so named owing to the abundance of trees near a lake, the name signifying Lake Forest. As one of the most popular tourist places in Tamil Nadu, Yercaud is also called as Jewel of South.

நகரத்தைப் போல இலலாமல் அதிக இரைச்சல் இல்லாத அமைதியான மலைப்பாதை. மலை உச்சியில் இருந்து பாலக்காட்டின் அழகை பார்த்து ரசிக்கலாம். சற்று நேரம் இளைப்பாறி விட்டு, புகைப்படங்களை எடுத்துக் கொண்டு மீண்டும் பயணத்தைத் தொடரலாம்.

அதே போல மரக்கிளைகள் முழுவதும் இந்த மின்மினி பூச்சிகள் அலங்காரம் செய்தது போல காட்சியளிக்கும். இதனால் காடே மஞ்சள் நிறத்தில் ஒளிரும். இந்த காட்சியை மார்ச் முதல் மே மாதத்திற்கு இடைப்பட்ட காலத்தில் நம்மால் காண முடியும்.

கோவையில் இருந்து இரண்டரை மணி நேர பயணத்தில் நெல்லியம்பதியை அடையலாம். திருப்பூரில் இருந்து 3 மணி நேரம் 40 நிமிடத்தில் சென்று விடலாம். அதே போல ஈரோட்டில் இருந்து 4 மணி நேரம் 55 நிமிடத்தில் (211.5 கிமீ) நெல்லியம்பதியை அடைந்து விடலாம்.

மயில் ஆடும் மயிலாடும்பாறை

பாலக்காட்டில் இருந்து சுமார் 30 கிலோமீட்டர் தொலைவில் மயிலாடும்பாறையில் சூலனூர் மயில் சரணாலயம் உள்ளது. ஏராளமான மயில்கள் உள்ளன. இங்கு மயில் நடனத்தை பார்க்க சிறந்த வாய்ப்பு கிடைக்கும். தென்னிந்தியாவை பூர்வீகமாகக் கொண்ட மயில்கள் இங்குள்ளன. மயிலாடும்பாறை மயில்கள் சரணாலயத்திற்கு செல்லம் பேருந்துகள், டாக்சிகள், ஜீப் வசதி உள்ளன.

போத்துண்டி அணை

இது 19 ம் நூற்றாண்டில் கட்டப்பட்ட பழமையான அணை. இந்த அணை கான்கிரீட் கலவையைப் பயன்படுத்தாமல் கட்டப்பட்டு உள்ளது. இங்கு பூங்கா, படகு சவாரி ஆகியவை பொழுதை கழிக்க உள்ளன. நெல்லியம்பதி பள்ளத்தாக்கின் கண்கவர் காட்சியையும், மறுபுறம் பசுமையான நெல் வயல்களையும் காண முடியும். காலை 5 மணி முதல் மாலை 6 மணி வரை அணையை பார்வையிடலாம்.

சீதார்குண்டு வியூ பாயின்ட்

நெல்லியம்பதியில் இருந்து சுமார் 8 கி.மீ தொலைவில் சீதார்குண்டு என அழைக்கப்படும் இயற்கை எழில் கொஞ்சும் இடம் உள்ளது. இந்த இடம் ராமர், லட்சுமணன் மற்றும் சீதையின் வனவாசத்தின் போது தங்கியிருக்கும் இடமாக பலரால் கருதப்படுகிறது. இங்கிருந்து கேரளாவின் பள்ளத்தாக்கு காட்சிகளை கண்டு மகிழலாம்.

மீன் வள்ளம் அருவி

பாலக்காட்டில் இருந்து 37 கிலோமீட்டர் தொலைவில், மன்னார்க்காடு சாலையின் அருகே மீன்வல்லம் அருவி அமைந்துள்ளது. 5 முதல் 45 மீட்டர் உயரத்தில் இருந்து கொட்டும் மீன்வல்லம் நீர்வீழ்ச்சியில் இயற்கையான நீர்வீழ்ச்சி அனுபவத்தை பெற முடியும்.
