Pink at University of Bolton Stadium — stage times, setlist and more

Pink returns to the UK after four years and Manchester for the first time in a decade.

Danny Jones

Pop legend Pink is in Manchester as we speak ahead of her massive gigs at the University of Bolton Stadium this week, set to play not one but two shows at the Wanderers’ home ground.

Having been around since 1995 if you can believe that, the legendary Noughties singer recently released her ninth studio album, Trustfall , back in February and is now set to embark on a huge world tour entitled ‘ Summer Carnival ‘.

The UK leg, her first since 2019, consists of six big shows across Britain, but Manchester has the honour of not only hosting Pink for the first time in 10 years but being the one to kick off her world tour, which already consists of over 70 dates, nine different countries and runs all the way into 2024.

It might surprise a few to see that Pink’s playing at a football stadium in Bolton to get things started, but she’s played there multiple times before and while she might not have heard about the recent name change , it’s somewhere she’s more than familiar with. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

Tickets for Pink’s Manchester gig

It’ll be no surprise to hear that tickets to see one of the biggest pop artists of the past 20+ years aren’t exactly abundant but, fear not, if you’re a big Pink fan there are still some available for both nights.

The bad news is, given they’re in such high demand and the gigs are literally around the corner, they’ll cost you a fair few quid, to say the least.

The cheapest seats remaining on Wednesday, 7 June will set you back £135 per person; as for the following Thursday, 8 June, not only are there still some seats available at the same price but there are even a handful of Gold Standing Tickets in The Circle that will cost you £162.

Even the VIP packages for these gigs are all sold out as there are literally hundreds of people set to raise their glass to the pop sensation’s return.

Pink support acts at Bolton Stadium

As if seeing Pink wasn’t enough, the Pennsylvania songstress will be accompanied by three different support across her double-header at the UniBol Stadium.

For those of you who do manage to get a ticket, she will be joined by fellow American singer-songwriter Gayle , rising DJ and producer KidCutUp who played her last tour, as well as fellow pop hit-makers, The Script.

Talk about a warm-up act — seeing The Script is a pricey ticket on its own, let alone a trio of exciting artists and then Pink!

Their appearances on Pink’s impending tour are also among the first the Irish group will play following the passing of their guitarist and co-founder Mark Sheehan back in April, having got back on stage in Blackpool earlier this week. It’ll no doubt be just as emotional an occasion for them on Wednesday.

Predicted setlist

Now, as for what Pink will be playing on her opening night in Bolton , we don’t really have any other gigs this year to go off, however, you can bet you’ll be hearing plenty of the new album as well as plenty of the classics from down the years.

We’re not going to lie, this setlist is adjusted from her last big show at Austin City Limits back in October 2022 and based on the stuff she’s played most this year according to Setlist.fm , so there’s a fair bit of guesswork here but here’s an idea of what you might get to hear:

  • Get The Party Started
  • What About Us
  • When I Get There
  • F**kin’ Perfect
  • Just Give Me a Reason
  • Never Gonna Not Dance Again
  • Please Don’t Leave Me
  • Just Like a Pill
  • Me and Bobby McGee (Kris Kristofferson)
  • Nothing Compares 2 U (Prince cover)
  • Raise Your Glass
  • So What (encore)

So long as we hear ‘Get The Party Started’ we’ll be happy, to be honest — top-tier banger.

Stage times

As for set times, the University of Bolton Stadium’s doors are set to open at 4.30pm, with the first of the warm-ups, KidCutUp , beginning an hour later — one of three occasions he’ll be keeping the crowd entertained over the course of the evening.

Then at 6.45pm Gayle will play a roughly half-an-hour set before KidCutUp returns for the interval. As for the big support, The Script will be taking to the stage for an hour from 7:30-8:30pm.

Making a final appearance for 20 minutes as the main event, KidCutUp will once again get the crowd ready and raring to go before Pink arrives at around 8:50pm, will the show set to end no later than 11pm.

With such an early start time and so much music to enjoy on Wednesday and Thursday, it’s going to be a brilliant couple of nights in Bolton.

Travel and parking

As for how you’re going to get to Pink’s Bolton gigs, one of the best parts about Greater Manchester is our brilliant public transport networks mean you can always get around.

With a shuttle bus running from Bolton Interchange, Chorley Railway Station and Wigan Robin Park to the stadium on both nights between 2-8pm, Big Green Coaches available from various locations, as well as Horwich Parkway as your nearest train station, there are several options for travelling to the gig.

As for if you’re driving in, there are plenty of places to drop gig-goers around the stadium and if you’re looking for parking, there are around 1800 spaces available at the stadium per night.

Parking spots, including 120 blue badge disability spaces, will be first-come-first-serve and bookable via the Evology app for £25. You can find out more information about pricing and how to book, as well as plenty of other travel information down below.

Pink was one of the first big musical artists to ever play at Bolton Wanderer’s home stadium and helped usher the likes of The Killers, Little Mix, Coldplay, Elton John and more to join her.

With that in mind, it’s only fitting that she’s returned to the venue that she’s remained so fond of, declaring, “ Manchester, I am so in love with you ” after arriving in Manchester at the start of this week.

Writing in a statement on the University Bolton Stadium Hotel website, Pink said : “It’s been a long three years and I’ve missed live music so so much… So it’s finally time! I am so excited to get back to the UK and Europe to sing, cry, sweat and make new memories with my friends. It’s going to be magical!”

The mum of two even took her daughter Willow out in Trafford Park to celebrate her 12th birthday. Even hearing her name next to random Manc boroughs still sounds a bit surreal but we’re absolutely here for it — roll on Wednesday night!

Not the first place I'd expect to see Pink. 🤣 https://t.co/JZCEqiCFOh — The Manc (@TheMancUK) June 6, 2023

Novo Amor New Century Hall Manchester gig review

Friday night’s gig at New Century Hall was one of those where you’re so stunned by the show that you’re left wishing the act in front of you was Manc so you could claim them as you’re own – but sadly Novo Amor is a Welshman and we had to give him back.

The stage name for the highly impressive multi-instrumentalist and producer, Ali John Meredith-Lacey, in truth seeing him for the first time here in Manchester proved that the Novo Amor really is the sum of many talented parts.

Much like Bon Iver in that sense and in style, sound and approach to making music, for without Justin Vernon and co. there would be no Novo, one of our first worries was that he would be unable to carry over the level of production and sound design heard on the albums to the stage performance.

That’s where his full band came in, who ensured not only that the whole thing sounded virtually studio-perfect but took a step beyond what we ever thought we’d get to hear at a Novo Amor gig. And it all started with Ed Tullet performing under his own stage name Lowswimer for the opening act.

Lowswimmer

Anyone who listens to Novo will likely be aware of the little sub-group of artists that all swim in the same circle, from Ali himself to the likes Gia Margaret, Sean Carey (part of Bon Iver) and Yvette Young, to Hailaker – Tullet being one-half opposite Jemima Coulter – as well as Lowswimmer and several others.

He might have only played a handful of songs with only a guitar, including a couple of beautiful Hailaker tracks, but it was more than enough to leave an impression of the very sincere artist who clearly has a massive influence on all of those around him.

Explaining that this would be his second to last show perform with Novo Amor due to health issues and the general toll of touring, having helped write, record, produce and play the bulk of music ever put out under that name since day dot, it was a fittingly sombre and intimate warm-up.

However, even in delivering the more stripped-back set we were already half expecting from the headliner, we almost managed to get both sides of this little mini-music community: the quieter acoustic stuff where big vocals moments are left to shine, and they did, as well as the real deal.

Novo Amor live at New Century

When Ali and the rest of his band finally walked out on stage, with Ed himself receding back into what looked to be the more comfortable position just outside of the spotlight, it suddenly dawned on us that it wouldn’t just be a few folky guitars and some nice piano playing.

After the Lowswimmer’s ironically low-lit stage had somehow managed to hide a quietly better-budget backdrop, the stage suddenly began to light up as Novo Amor wandered on to pick up their instruments and play and from here on out we were just as captivated by the lights and effects as we were the music.

Be it thin but sharp white lines tracing the borders of light boxes like a weird game of snake; solid blocks of electric blues, warm yellows and moody reds appearing on perfectly-timed musical cues or dots delicately twinkling into a slow-moving constellation, each song felt like an experience.

Not sure we’ll ever get over seeing this track being introduced in such a stunning way and in a venue as eye-catching as New Century :

Similar to Ed when he was busy tuning his guitar, Ali let on that his talent lies in bringing these intricately built-up tracks to life not only in record form but in translating them for the live shows too, choosing to ask ChatGPT for some ‘on-stage banter in the style of Novo Amor’ to fill the gaps.

Truthfully, as much as both parties said they were ‘not good at this kind of stuff’, he did a good job at handling the short lulls between songs by letting people ask questions, daft or not, as well as making sure water got to those feeling faint in the hot room. Everyone was fine, don’t worry.

In fact, when one girl seemingly passed out nearer to the front of the crowd as he came towards the end of fan favourite Halloween (you have no idea how gorgeous that song sounds with a full room of people singing it back, by the way), he still managed to check on her whilst quietly playing the outro. A total pro.

Those were the three key letters here in every sense the more we think about it; be it the effortless professionalism in recreating what you hear in your headphones down to the tee and then some live, or the production levels and simple but striking set design behind them, it was verging on surreal.

Another wave of acts has been added to the Green Island Festival 2024 lineup this summer

  • The timeline of Night & Day Cafe’s noise row – including a surprise offer from Matty Healy

We might not have been anticipating such a put-together set and overall level of production both in terms of sound and the often mesmerising visuals but we don’t know why, because we absolutely should’ve.

This is what you get when you put a group of extremely talented musicians and multi-instrumentalists together in one place. They might make highly complex, heavily layered and often delicate sounds with electronics and technology playing a big role, but they also know how to ramp it up for an audience.

All we can pray is that the next time Novo is back in Manchester he brings at least one half of Hailaker along again and maybe a surprise showing from another corner of this collective.

A special shout-out has to go to Ed as well; we have no shame in admitting that watching Ali looking on at his long-term creative partner and mate with a smile as he signed off his time with the live band by belting out the final tune had us welling up.

Matt and Phred's x Jimmy's takeover Manchester

Two much-loved institutions in this city’s legendary music scene and Manchester’s nightlife culture as a whole are set to collide next month for a brand new live event series, throwing a big old party and supporting the industry in the process – who’s ready for Matt and Phred’s x Jimmy’s?

That’s right, two of the very best venues not only for live music but for booze and a bite to eat have recently announced a new collaboration which will see both Manchester city centre spots doing their bit to support local independent business as well as up-and-coming artists.

With the inaugural event in the new series set to take place at the popular jazz bar, gig venue and pizza spot Matt and Phred’s , the team over at Jimmy’s will be lending a hand to put on a great night of live music this May.

As two of the veritable tastemakers when it comes to the top tunes coming out of 0161, we can’t think of many better places to champion the Manchester music and hospitality crossover than these two.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jimmy's (@jimmys)

Scheduled for 10 May, the Jimmy’s crew are set to work alongside Matt and Phred’s to deliver a mint night of music and Manc nightlife at its finest.

There’s always been a bit of debate as to when the former first opened (most have settled on 1998), but they pride themselves on being “the only true dedicated jazz venue in the North West”, with live performances pretty much every night for the week.

As for Jimmy’s, while they might have had to say goodbye to their original site on the edge of the Northern Quarter and their Liverpool location late last year too, they’ve done a good job of attracting new crowds at their current home on Cutting Room Square in Ancoats .

Hosting rising stars Denver County Council , who recently joined adopted Mancs The Blinders on their UK tour along with Wigan indie four-piece, The Stanleys, we can only hope this will be just the first in a long line of collabs between various local acts and venues.

  • Another wave of acts has been to the Green Island Festival 2024 lineup this summer
  • The timeline of Night & Day Cafe’s noise row – including a surprise cash offer from Matty Healy
  • Liam Gallagher says his son Gene’s band will be opening for him on Definitely Maybe tour

Not only are Denver County Council being tipped for big things, having recently got some airplay on the likes of XS Manchester, but the entire ethos of this new live series is something we can all get behind.

It might start with Jimmy’s x Matt and Phred’s, but backing nightlife and other independent businesses through spotlighting new artists has always been part of the very fabric of this city and the region as a whole, so we’re sure it won’t be long before more names get involved on both sides of the stage.

With tickets setting you back just a tenner, you’d be a muppet not to book this one in for a fun little Friday this April. You can grab yours HERE .

See you there.

The upcoming Tour Deluxe Edition also features six live recordings from her 2023 ‘Summer Carnival Tour’ including singles ‘What About Us’, ‘When I Get There’, and ‘Cover Me in Sunshine’ – which featured her daughter Willow Sage Hart – as well as covers of Sade ’s ‘No Ordinary Love’ and Sinead O’Connor ’s ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ with Brandi Carlile .

In other P!nk news, last month the singer was  forced to postpone a show in Canada due to a respiratory infection . It marked her fourth show to be cancelled in one week.

The condition appeared to be related to the singer’s struggle with asthma, which she has had since childhood and flared up following her catching coronavirus in 2020.

Last week, the artist also announced that she would be giving away 2,000 copies of banned books at her upcoming concerts in Florida .

This came after she teamed up with PEN America to distribute copies of Todd Parr’s The Family Book , Amanda Gorman’s The Hill We Climb , Toni Morrison’s Beloved , and Stacia Deutsch’s Girls Who Code , all books that are currently prohibited from schools and libraries in Florida.

When I first bought the tickets they seemed expensive but having attended the show I think they were worth every penny.

I felt that Pink is an amazing entertainer who engaged with the audience and also showed appreciation for the other performers. Not only this but she has ( as evidenced by the video clips) done lots of ambassadorship things for worthy causes.

I felt she can across as a very warm caring person of incredible talent and I enjoyed the whole event.

Would definitely like to see her in concert again. Truly spectacular.

I had seen P!nk live at Madison Square Garden in NYC once before when she had started using the silks onstage, so I knew her shows were impressive. But nothing prepared me for last night. Not only does she entertain with a well-choreographed show, she’s humble, she’s funny and the show brims with passion. This is a well-rehearsed production, yet she still makes it feel spontaneous. There are lots of fast rock-out songs with pyrotechnics but also quiet moments where her voice shines during the ballads. Highlights for me were the nod to Gwen Stefani/No Doubt blend of Just a Girl with her own Funhouse and her flying all around the arena like Tinkerbell during So What. What a phenomenal show. What a phenomenal performance. P!nk sure gives you your money’s worth. I tend to avoid big stadium concerts, but for P!nk I’ll gladly make an exception. Go see her! You won’t regret it.

This tour date was my second time seeing P!NK on the Beautiful Trauma tour. (I got to travel to Charlottesville for a date on the tour in 2019.) When the Charlotte, NC, date was announced for this March, I had hoped to be able to go because it's near my birthday this time. This date was just as awesome. (I have listened to P!NK's albums since her first album was released when I was an assistant manager in a music store.)

P!NK is personal, on point, and gives audience participation a new meaning. She's working hard to keep her body prepped to do everything she does on stage, and as a female in her age group as well as a lifelong singer and musician's spouse, I applaud her voice and her choices in everything she puts together for her concert tour dates. If you were hesitant to go to the tour date because you hear her music and do not go to concerts, then I recommend you try to go to at least one tour date. You will not be disappointed!

Nicki Minaj delivers spectacle backed up by skill on biggest tour of her career: Review

pink live tour uk

WASHINGTON – As one of the most celebrated, successful rappers and engaging personalities, Nicki Minaj could slouch her way through her Pink Friday 2 tour and fans would still slather her with praise.

After all, they don’t seem to mind the continued late starts – 10:20 p.m. at Monday’s Capital One Arena in D.C., more than two hours past the ticketed promise but in line with her timing so far on tour – prefaced by an interminable DJ set.

But Minaj, who kicked off her 30-date world outing March 1 and has produced a string of arena sellouts since, is undiminished in her vitality and spunkiness.

From the moment she rose from underneath the stage floor, draped in white from the waist down and sporting a metallic top for the confident tone-setter “I’m the Best,” Minaj, 41, oozed coolness.

More: Nicki Minaj Pink Friday 2 tour: See the setlist for her career-spanning concert

Gag City is Nicki Minaj’s Oz

For her first U.S. run in eight years, Minaj has crafted her most grandiose production: a slick, vibrant beauty of staircases, tiers, towering video panels and a lengthy catwalk to allow her plenty of room to strut.

It’s a Nicki-fied Oz, a neon playground on which she and her dancers could exact the rhythms of new tracks such as “FTCU,” “Barbie Dangerous” and “Cowgirl” with style.

The fictionalized Gag City – an idea created by fans using artificial intelligence for the arrival of last year’s “Pink Friday 2” album – was brought to reality in the form of a cityscape outlined in fuchsia for some songs and black and red for others.

During the alluring Asian-themed segment offering “Chun-Li” and the percussive “Ruby Red da Sleeze,” Minaj ducked into a phone booth for a quick change – a la Clark Kent – from her hooded robe to a long, pink wig (one of many she would sport throughout the night).

Nicki Minaj loves to play with fans

Minaj is endlessly entertaining to watch. She might drop into a marionette pose in “Win Again” or grind against the stage floor and literally engage in the lyrics of “Feeling Myself.”

Her gift is to go from spitting daggers to turning coquettish, and she says as much with her alluring eyes as her pointed lyrics, which her fans devour.

Those devotees – affectionately dubbed “The Barbz” – turned the arena into a sea of salmon-colored fashion, from cowgirl hats to crop tops, boots to glittery shorts.

But more than their visuals, the crowd clearly worshipped Minaj’s every movement, especially her stings that landed with a smile.

Late in the show, Minaj handed her microphone to several audience members to sing the refrain of “The Night is Still Young.” She jokingly scolded their off-key renditions with typical side eye, but broke into spontaneous gyrations and a grin when one fan instead sang, “Nicki is still young!”

Before that inspirational anthem, Minaj addressed the crowd with her usual candor.

“People want money and they want cars and they want houses … and they ain’t got no peace. So what does it mean? I’d rather peace in the projects building. ‘Cause when you’ve got peace, you can think. And when you can think, you can prosper,” she told the cheering throng.

More: Beyoncé's 'Cowboy Carter' is a little bit country and a whole lot more: Review

Nicki Minaj’s concert guests are great, but slow momentum

A handful of songs into her set, Minaj rolled into “Beep Beep,” a heaping serving of drums, pyro and 50 Cent.

The superstar rapper strolled out in a white baseball cap, jeans and a sparkly blue jacket to match Minaj’s outfit of the moment for the song – featured on the deluxe version of “Pink Friday 2” – before taking over the stage during a Minaj costume change.

His smile gleaming and his spirit apparently soaring, 50 Cent steered the crowd through singalongs of several hits including “What Up Gangsta,” “P.I.M.P.” and the inevitable “In Da Club.”

His presence was certainly welcome, but, like the mid-set performance from Monica and the too-long artsy videos that segued each thematic act, it impaired the momentum of the show.

It’s gracious of Minaj to cede the spotlight to Monica for a deserved platform than mere opening act, and she indeed sounded flawless on “So Gone” and “Before You Walk Out of My Life” and looked luminous in her floor-length pink coat.

But while her set didn’t siphon attention from Minaj, it did incur a tonal shift.

Still, Minaj is the Queen of Rap for a reason, and she soon reclaimed the stage with her unbridled sass.

Today, Human Music Group Sensations Glass Animals announced their 2024 global TOUR OF EARTH . Promoted by Live Nation, the 41-date tour sees the band headlining the biggest venues of their career thus far and kicks off on Wednesday, August 7 in Charlotte, NC at PNC Music Pavilion, with stops across North America, Europe, and the UK in Toronto, New York, Nashville, Chicago, Vancouver, Inglewood, Paris, Milan, Amsterdam, Glasgow, and more before wrapping up with an epic hometown performance in London, UK at The O2. The GRAMMY-nominated and BRIT-nominated, Diamond-selling British band  will be joined by special guests Kevin Abstract , Eyedress , and Blondshell on select dates throughout the North America leg. The Big Moon will join on all dates across Europe and the UK.

The tour will see the band playing many iconic venues around the world for the first time, including Madison Square Garden in New York, Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, The Gorge Amphitheatre in Seattle, Kia Forum in Inglewood, 3Arena in Dublin, The O2 in London, and many more.

Yesterday, Glass Animals announced details of their highly anticipated fourth studio album, I Love You So F***ing Much , set for release on July 19th . The album is introduced by the band’s new single, “ Creatures in Heaven ,” out now—listen HERE and watch the visualizer HERE .

I Love You So F***ing Much is the follow-up to 2020’s critically revered Dreamland , which sold over 12 million copies globally and gave life to “ Heat Waves ,” the record-breaking song that became the biggest international hit from a British band in almost 30 years . It was the first song by a British band since the Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” in 1995 to claim #1 for five consecutive weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 , and the first song to reach #1 with a single writer and producer since Pharell’s “Happy” —leading to the pop world’s biggest acts, including Florence Welch , all wanting to work with Glass Animals frontman, songwriter, and producer, Dave Bayley . But the birth of I Love You So F***ing Much was an existential crisis. Dave found himself struggling to make sense of this newfound global stardom, having watched it all happen while the world was in lockdown.

He says, “Life can change dramatically, but sometimes you aren’t able to change as quickly on a personal level. You end up feeling like a spectator. And then you are asked and expected to be a certain type of person, a different person. But…I wasn’t sure how. It confused me to the point of not knowing who I was or if anything was real.” It took being stranded on a cliff in a wooden house on stilts during one of California’s biggest storms in history to push that feeling into a full existential crisis. In forced isolation, watching trees tumble down mountains and assuming “death was coming,” Dave began asking questions of himself, of the universe, and of the human experience: namely, love. As he came to accept himself as an introvert, Dave realized that “human connection and the love between us is much bigger, more important, and more complex than anything else” . “Creatures in Heaven” is the sublime first glimpse into ten intimate love stories set against the backdrop of the universe.

10 Surprising Facts About the 2024 Solar Eclipse

A total solar eclipse will sweep across North America on Monday, April 8, offering a spectacle for tens of millions of people who live in its path and others who will travel to see it.

A solar eclipse occurs during the new moon phase, when the moon passes between Earth and the sun, casting a shadow on Earth and totally or partially blocking our view of the sun. While an average of two solar eclipses happen every year, a particular spot on Earth is only in the path of totality every 375 years on average, Astronomy reported .

“Eclipses themselves aren't rare, it's just eclipses at your house are pretty rare,” John Gianforte, director of the University of New Hampshire Observatory, tells TIME. If you stay in your hometown, you may never spot one, but if you’re willing to travel, you can witness multiple. Gianforte has seen five eclipses and intends to travel to Texas this year, where the weather prospects are better.

One fun part of experiencing an eclipse can be watching the people around you. “They may yell, they scream, they cry, they hug each other, and that’s because it’s such an amazingly beautiful event,” Gianforte, who also serves as an extension associate professor of space science education, notes. “Everyone should see at least one in their life, because they’re just so spectacular. They are emotion-evoking natural events.”

Here are 10 surprising facts about the science behind the phenomenon, what makes 2024’s solar eclipse unique, and what to expect.

The total eclipse starts in the Pacific Ocean and ends in the Atlantic

The darker, inner shadow the moon casts is called the umbra , in which you can see a rarer total eclipse. The outer, lighter second shadow is called the penumbra, under which you will see a partial eclipse visible in more locations.

The total eclipse starts at 12:39 p.m. Eastern Time, a bit more than 620 miles south of the Republic of Kiribati in the Pacific Ocean, according to Astronomy . The umbra remains in contact with Earth’s surface for three hours and 16 minutes until 3:55 p.m. when it ends in the Atlantic Ocean, roughly 340 miles southwest of Ireland.

The umbra enters the U.S. at the Mexican border just south of Eagle Pass, Texas, and leaves just north of Houlton, Maine, with one hour and eight minutes between entry and exit, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) tells TIME in an email.

Mexico will see the longest totality during the eclipse

The longest totality will extend for four minutes and 28 seconds on a 350-mile-long swath near the centerline of the eclipse, including west of Torreón, Mexico, according to NASA.

In the U.S., some areas of Texas will catch nearly equally long total eclipses. For example, in Fredericksburg, totality will last four minutes and 23 seconds—and that gets slightly longer if you travel west, the agency tells TIME. Most places along the centerline will see totality lasting between three and a half minutes and four minutes.

pink live tour uk

More people currently live in the path of totality compared to the last eclipse

An estimated 31.6 million people live in the path of totality for 2024’s solar eclipse, compared to 12 million during the last solar eclipse that crossed the U.S. in 2017, per NASA .

The path of totality is much wider than in 2017, and this year’s eclipse is also passing over more cities and densely populated areas than last time.

A part of the sun which is typically hidden will reveal itself

Solar eclipses allow for a glimpse of the sun’s corona —the outermost atmosphere of the star that is normally not visible to humans because of the sun’s brightness.

The corona consists of wispy, white streamers of plasma—charged gas—that radiate from the sun. The corona is much hotter than the sun's surface —about 1 million degrees Celsius (1.8 million degrees Fahrenheit) compared to 5,500 degrees Celsius (9,940 degrees Fahrenheit).

The sun will be near its more dramatic solar maximum

During the 2024 eclipse, the sun will be near “solar maximum.” This is the most active phase of a roughly 11-year solar cycle, which might lead to more prominent and evident sun activity, Gianforte tells TIME.

“We're in a very active state of the sun, which makes eclipses more exciting, and [means there is] more to look forward to during the total phase of the eclipse,” he explains.

People should look for an extended, active corona with more spikes and maybe some curls in it, keeping an eye out for prominences , pink explosions of plasma that leap off the sun’s surface and are pulled back by the sun’s magnetic field, and streamers coming off the sun.

Streamers “are a beautiful, beautiful shade of pink, and silhouetted against the black, new moon that's passing across the disk of the sun, it makes them stand out very well. So it's really just a beautiful sight to look up at the totally eclipsed sun,” Gianforte says.

Solar Eclipse

Two planets—and maybe a comet—could also be spotted

Venus will be visible 15 degrees west-southwest of the sun 10 minutes before totality, according to Astronomy. Jupiter will also appear 30 degrees to the east-northeast of the sun during totality, or perhaps a few minutes before. Venus is expected to shine more than five times as bright as Jupiter.

Another celestial object that may be visible is Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks , about six degrees to the right of Jupiter. Gianforte says the comet, with its distinctive circular cloud of gas and a long tail, has been “really putting on a great show in the sky” ahead of the eclipse.

The eclipse can cause a “360-degree sunset”

A solar eclipse can cause a sunset-like glow in every direction—called a “360-degree sunset”—which you might notice during the 2024 eclipse, NASA said . The effect is caused by light from the sun in areas outside of the path of totality and only lasts as long as totality.

The temperature will drop

When the sun is blocked out, the temperature drops noticeably. During the last total solar eclipse in the U.S. in 2017, the National Weather Service recorded that temperature dropped as much as 10 degrees Fahrenheit. In Carbondale, Ill. for example, the temperature dropped from a peak of 90 degrees Fahrenheit just before totality to 84 degrees during totality.

Wildlife may act differently

When the sky suddenly becomes black as though nighttime, confused “animals, dogs, cats, birds do act very differently ,” Gianforte says.

In the 2017 eclipse, scientists tracked that many flying creatures began returning to the ground or other perches up to 50 minutes before totality. Seeking shelter is a natural response to a storm or weather conditions that can prove deadly for small flying creatures, the report said. Then right before totality, a group of flying creatures changed their behavior again—suddenly taking flight before quickly settling back into their perches again.

There will be a long wait for the next total eclipse in the U.S.

The next total eclipse in the U.S. won’t happen until March 30, 2033, when totality will reportedly only cross parts of Alaska . The next eclipse in the 48 contiguous states is expected to occur on Aug. 12, 2044, with parts of Montana and North Dakota experiencing totality.

Girls Aloud 2024 tour dates and how you can still get tickets

Following their appearance on Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Live, Girls Aloud will be heading on tour next month - and there's still some tickets available

  • 18:30, 13 APR 2024

Girls Aloud will perform across the UK and Ireland in 2024

It’s not long until Girls Aloud kick off their eagerly-awaited tour and fans will get their first glimpse of what could be in store for The Girls Aloud Show this evening.

In what has been billed as a rare television appearance for the four-piece, the girl band are appearing on Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway this evening (April 13) on ITV as part of the series finale ‘extravaganza’.

Their appearance comes just a little over a month before they kick off their 2024 tour - which will be their first tour in 11 years and their first since the untimely passing of member Sarah Harding, who passed away in 2021.

Announced earlier this year, Nadine, Cheryl, Nicola and Kimberley said The Girls Aloud Tour will be a ‘celebration’ to mark the 21st anniversary since they were voted the winners on ITV’s Popstars: The Rivals.

The huge 30-date arena tour will kick off at the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland on May 17 and will then head around the UK and Ireland before finishing up in Liverpool on June 30. In-between then, they'll be heading to the likes of Belfast, Cardiff, Newcastle, Glasgow, Leeds and, of course, Manchester - where they will be performing three huge nights at the AO Arena ( tickets here ).

The Girls Aloud Show will be the girl band's first tour in 11 years and their first without member Sarah

Fans will be hoping the band’s biggest hits, including Sound of the Underground, The Promise and Call The Shots, will be amongst the tour’s setlist, alongside some lesser-known favourites and album tracks.

And if you still haven’t got yourself a ticket, then we’ve got you covered. Here’s all the details you’ll need if you want to secure some last-minute seats to The Girls Aloud Show 2024.

Are tickets still available?

A number of the dates were added following such a huge demand for tickets therefore some of the original dates are now sold out. But, you’ll be pleased to know, there are still some tickets available for a few of the dates.

Ticketmaster reports 'low availability' for the May 23 , May 24 and May 25 dates at the AO Arena, but there are still some resale tickets available for each night. In most cases, you will have to pay above the original ticket price if you want to buy resale tickets.

General tickets are still available to buy from Ticketmaster for the May 25 show, as well as VIP and hospitality packages .

A limited number of tickets are also available for the other dates too via Ticketmaster.

How much are tickets?

There are a series of ticket prices and they will all vary based on location and whether you are buying resale tickets, or directly from ticket providers.

At the time of writing, the lowest priced tickets for the May 25 show at Manchester’s AO Arena were available for £58.75 each on Ticketmaster before booking fees. There are also tickets priced at £71.75, whilst official platinum tickets will cost a lot more - with prices starting from £172.60. Resale tickets are also available at various price points.

Hospitality tickets start from £167.75 each before fees. The lowest price package included VIP entry, access to The Mezz for pre-drinks, panoramic views of the stage, cloakroom access and a dedicated host service. Higher VIP packages are also available.
