Keith Urban Announces Summer 2022 Tour Dates

By Joseph Hudak

Joseph Hudak

Since the pandemic, the majority of Keith Urban ’s live shows have been onstage in Las Vegas, part of his ongoing residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace. This summer, however, the guitarist is returning to the road with the launch of the Speed of Now World Tour. Urban announced the summer 2022 trek on Wednesday.

“I’ve always considered myself a live performer first,” Urban said in a statement. “It’s what I’ve always done and it’s what my music needs to live and breathe. Our shows are all about living in the moment. They’re a totally interactive and immersive experience where everyone can participate in whatever way they want — sing, dance, do whatever.”

Urban, whose latest single is the inspirational “Wild Hearts,” will kick off the new tour June 17 in Tampa, Florida, at the MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Amphitheatre and spend the next six months winding his way through the U.S. and Canada. The run is slated to end Nov. 5 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Ingrid Andress will open all dates.

Prior to the Speed of Now World Tour, Urban, the subject of a recent Rolling Stone Australia cover story , will play three new shows at the Colosseum in Las Vegas on May 27, 28, and 29.

“Love, Pain & the whole crazy Carnival Ride Tour,” a name that combines the titles of each artist’s most recent album; Keith’s double platinum #1 debuting Love, Pain & the whole crazy thing and Carrie’s #1 debut second album Carnival Ride,” combines the talents of two of the music industry’s most powerful performers. No less than 12 #1 songs combined will highlight the artists’ performances.

Urban, who has already been critically praised as one of the industry’s most electrifying performers has been on the road since April 2007 in support of his #1 album Love, Pain & the whole crazy thing and his recently released Greatest Hits: 18 Kids. Electrifying performances and world-class production combine with songs that have helped define a career; “Somebody Like You,” “Who Wouldn’t Wanna Be Me,” “Better Life,” “Days Go By,” “You’ll Think Of Me,” “Once In A Lifetime,” as well as his latest single “Everybody,” and more. Additionally, Urban will be co-headlining select Kenny Chesney stadium dates this year.

Underwood’s new album Carnival Ride has sold over two million copies since its release in October and immediately became the best-selling debut of any female artist in 2007. Earning the highest debut-week sales of any sophomore country album in over a decade, the album contains four Underwood co-penned songs including first single “So Small,” which stayed at #1 for 3 weeks, and current single “All-American Girl.” Underwood will also intertwine headline dates on the “Carnival Ride Tour” with special guest Josh Turner around the “Love, Pain & the whole crazy Carnival Ride Tour.” Love, Pain & the whole crazy Carnival Ride Tour

Keith Urban Announces North American Tour: 'It's Really Gonna Be Tough to Get Us Off the Stage'

"It's pure magic when you look out and see everyone just letting loose. I've really missed that!" he tells PEOPLE

keith urban tour denver

Keith Urban is hitting the road in 2022!

The country superstar announced Wednesday that he's embarking on a slew of North American dates on his The Speed of Now World Tour, which will kick off in Tampa, Florida in June and go through November.

Urban, 54, tells PEOPLE that four years after his last world tour, he's most looking forward to seeing his fans in person once more.

"[I'm most looking forward to] re-igniting that person-to-person connection I feel with everyone that comes out to see our shows," he says. "It's pure magic when you look out and see everyone just letting loose. I've really missed that!"

Joining him will be up-and-coming country star Ingrid Andress , who was nominated for three Grammys at this past year's awards show.

Urban teases that fans can expect to hear a mix of old classics, as well as new songs from his most recent album The Speed of Now Part 1 , which came out in September 2020.

"I can't wait to play those," he tells PEOPLE. "Visually, I think it's really important to create something that lends itself to the show's energy, but it's a bit early to know exactly what that'll be for this tour — I have a few ideas though! I'm just so looking forward to playing, playing, playing!"

In a statement, the "Blue Ain't Your Color" singer said he's eagerly awaiting the thrill of performing each night, as "every show is different."

"After two years we're finally gonna get the chance to play some of the new songs we haven't done live before. We'll throw in a bunch of the songs that everyone comes to hear, a couple of which we'll rework a bit, and it's really gonna be tough to get us of the stage," he said. "I've always considered myself a live performer first. It's what I've always done and it's what my music needs to live and breathe. Our shows are all about living in the moment. They're a totally interactive and immersive experience where everyone can participate in whatever way they want — sing, dance, do whatever."

Urban previously announced shows in Australia, Germany, Netherlands and the U.K., though the North American leg will mark his first-ever shows in Fort Worth, Texas and Savannah, Georgia.

He'll play three nights at Caesars Palace Colosseum in Las Vegas on May 27, 28 and 29 before the tour's official start in Tampa. Tickets will go on sale here on Dec. 10 at 10 a.m. local time.

2hr15 mins of pure power and energy. Old favourites mixed in with new numbers performed in front of an adoring audience. Wonderful band who complimented Keith's talents to a tee. A mixture of rocking country and acoustic ballads complimented by an effective light show bearing in mind 02 ( NW London) is a small venue for such a huge star.

His interaction with the audience made for short but natural breaks for everyone to regain their breath before the next hit was belted out by the Aussie rocker. Some of his songs from the early albums were cleverly rearranged to breath new life into them.Great to hear his new takes on old material.

Great performance made for a thoroughly enjoyable evening. One complaint was the inordinate delay getting into the venue. Waiting for over 45 mins in the cold and wind to gain access was unacceptable.

I am lucky to of seen Keith Urban twice. Can't wait, hope he comes back to Tamworth. Now the experience. Had booked my parking, so they had a person at every parking ticket bay. She helped me scan it. Concert was absolutely fantastic. No problems inside, got out easy. The wonderful staff helped with the gates and which was the way out. They were still smiling, not cranky at all.even got out fast, from level 7. Overall I would say 10 out of 10. Oh you need to sell coffee on each floor please. It's a bit much going back down the stairs to the coffee place. Hope that helps you out. Please thank your staff. They really did work together happily. Thank you Kathy

GraffitiU concert on September 27 in Eugene Oregon was awesome the best concert I have been to and I’ve been to a lot of concerts the very first for me seeing Keith Urban, and he was fantastic. Kelsea Ballerini was out of this world as well as Larkin Poe... I have been a big Keith Urban fan since early 2000, but being able to see him perform in person was up there with one of thee very best highlights of my life. I will see him again in concert and I will this time go for a meet and greet do you turbine is just so loud he interacts with his bands on every level and it just it’s amazing how very personable humble and caring he is.

We Love you and yours Keith Urban!

Keith Urban Announces 2022 'The Speed of Now World Tour'

Great news Keith Urban fans, the country singer is officially hitting the road in 2022! The Speed of Now Tour will have shows in both America and Canada venues beginning June 17, with North American dates extending to November.

There are more than 50 tour stops lining the way, with Ingrid Andress joining the singer. Andress was recently nominated for three Grammy Awards last year.

"I'm most looking forward to re-igniting that person-to-person connection I feel with everyone that comes out to see our shows, " Urban told PEOPLE. "It's pure magic when you look out and see everyone just letting loose. I've really missed that!"

Urban stated the crowd can expect to hear some of his old classics, as well as new songs from his recent album, The Speed of Now Part 1, which was released in September 2020. He stated, "I can't wait to play those. Visually, I think it's really important to create something that lends itself to the show's energy, but it's a bit early to know exactly what that'll be for this tour — I have a few ideas though! I'm just so looking forward to playing, playing, playing!"

The singer-songwriter had previously announced several shows in Germany, Australia, the U.K., and the Netherlands, but this time he is expanding venues, playing for the first time in Fort Worth Texas, and Savannah, Georgia. He will also play three nights at Caesars Palace Colosseum in Las Vegas before the tour starts in Tampa, Florida. Tickets for the Speed of Now Tour will go on sale on December 10th.

Things To Do

Music | colorado grammy nominee ingrid andress talks about her new album, “good person”, the highlands ranch native will open for keith urban at ball arena in denver on sept. 16.

Highlands Ranch native Ingrid Andress, now based in Nashville, will release new album "Good Person" on Warner Music Nashville on Friday, Aug. 26. (Provided by Warner Music Nashville)

“For going through a lot of heartache and adventure to get to this point and turning it into something beautiful,” she writes. “May we all find the outlet that transforms intense energy into light.”

If that sounds a bit self-helpy, it comes from a hard-won place, she said.

“It was a dark time,” Nashville-based Andress, 30, said of the inspiration behind “Good Person,” which drops Friday, Aug. 26. “To have my debut album (‘Lady Like’) released in March 2020 gave me this feeling of ‘I almost had it, and now I don’t.’ It was really tough to shake that.”

Andress was devastated by her sudden inability to tour behind or otherwise promote “Lady Like’s” poignant, radio-ready country melodies — due almost entirely to quarantines and COVID concerns at the time. But despite the worry, she saw a trio of 2021 Grammy nominations: one for “Lady Like” (Best Country Album), one for the single “More Hearts Than Mine” (Best Country Song), and one for Best New Artist — that joined prestigious nods from all over the country music industry (she didn’t win, but there’s plenty of time for that).

We caught up with Andress via phone from Nashville in advance of her new album release, as well as her Sept. 16 concert at Ball Arena. In one of the biggest bumps of her career, she’s opening for Keith Urban as part of his Speed of Now World Tour, which promises to introduce her to thousands of new fans each night. Tickets, $35-$149, are still available at ticketmaster.com .

Highlands Ranch native Ingrid Andress, now based in Nashville, will release new album

Q: Before we talk about the new album: What was it like releasing your debut full-length at the start of the pandemic?

A: It made me realize how reliant everything is on human interaction. Social media gives you a little bit of that but doesn’t make you feel the same way live shows do. It’s the same for songwriting. (Note: Andress is a prolific songwriter for other artists, such as Charli XCX, Alicia Keys, Lauren Jauregui and LANY.) I tried Zoom writing for two months and was finally like, “No more! Who wants to write on their back porch?”

Q: Did seeing the accolades for “Lady Like” take a bit of sting out of not being to tour behind it or traditionally promote it?

A: I didn’t really know how to wrap my head around it, but yes. The whole thing just made me step back a little. Like, “What am I doing? Where am I? Am I happy?” That’s when I realized the relationship I was in at the time was really toxic and stunting my growth. Going to a healthier place still sucks because you care about that person, even if they weren’t great. But addressing those things reminds yourself that you deserve to be happy, and that it’s not about struggling all the time.

Q: And now you’re back on the road with Keith Urban, which is obviously huge.

A: I’m excited because people really show up for those. I played Ball Arena with Dan + Shay last year — which was the day I found out it was no longer the Pepsi Center. But it’s always nice to be back, even if I don’t have my Colorado breathing ablities anymore.

Q: The album “Good Person” starts out dark and moves to a lighter area by the second half. Did it feel cathartic making it?

A: Oh, yes. “Pain,” which is intentionally the last song, was something I wrote about my previous relationship, and after I wrote that down it was kind of a pump-up song for me to break up with this (toxic) person.

Q: Where does the line fall between autobiography and fiction? Songs like “Yearbook” would seem to be about your parents — and how hard it is to stay together.

A: Marriage has always been such an interesting concept to me that I haven’t fully wrapped my head around it. But that’s how the song (started). My parents are good now but there have been moments when I was like, “Why are you guys still married when you do this to each other?” It’s taboo to talk about that because we’re supposed to suck it up and stay together in this culture, especially when you’re high school sweethearts.

Q: What’s your favorite song on “Good Person”?

A: My favorite changes every day because they all are real and accurate depictions of moments I went through. “Feel Like This” makes me really happy when I sing it, because it takes me back to that day when I wrote it and it very much feels like falling in love. Which it was. I’m also really proud of the production on that one, because I haven’t heard another song like it and that’s the goal. … I love Bon Iver and the (band) The 1975, so the synths and vocoder were fun to use.

Q: You’ve got quite a bit of studio prowess, having released two albums and written for lots of others. What’s your strength in the studio?

A: I don’t mind asking questions and sounding like an idiot. A lot of younger artists are afraid to do that, and a lot of established (producers) are just like, “Let me do this, stick to the formula.” Whereas Sam Hunt (this album’s producer) was like, “Let’s do this.”

Q: What do you feel like you’re more clear-eyed about these days?

A: I feel more grounded and I’m trying not to be so judgmental. Everyone’s doing their best, and being more accepting of myself made me more accepting of other people. My confidence in what I’m doing grows every year, so by the time I’m 80 I’ll be the queen of all the land!

Keith Urban on his upcoming album 'HIGH,' working with Lainey Wilson, and the pitfalls of crowd work

C ountry superstar Keith Urban joined Audacy host Scotty Kay at Chicago’s US*99, taking over the show on the night of his surprise concert at Carol’s Pub following his appearance in the Windy City over the weekend at the NASCAR Street Race.

LISTEN NOW: Keith Urban x Scotty Kay US*99 Take Over

The intimate show, dubbed How I Got Here , Keith explains, stems from his forthcoming album which “was always gonna be called ‘HIGH,’" he says, “and when we talk about doing these underplay shows leading up to the release of the album that were going on sale before the album title was announced… my smart manager Elizabeth suggested it might be a great anacronym for how I got here, which is how I got here is playing tiny little clubs.”

“This is how I got to do what I'm doing,” Keith adds, “so it's like second nature to me to be in a tiny little club. I mean, the benefit is that people hopefully are coming to listen. I'm used to playing in these clubs when nobody cares that you're up on stage.”

Touching on lessons learned throughout his more than 30-year career, from Keith’s perspective “everything is nuanced -- entertaining, playing guitar, writing songs, making records… Every part of it is just learning nuance.” More recently, scaling things back and taking a more minimal approach has been his challenge. “Because my music tends to sort of expand and contract and these club shows have been a great opportunity to bring it back to just a bare minimum,” Urban tells us. “There's no track support, there's no video screens, there's no keyboards, there's nothing. It’s just what you see.”

“I come from playing in a lot of three-piece bands where there was just me, drums, and bass. So you have to play guitar very, very differently than when you're in a band with a guitar player, a keyboard player,” Keith says. “I was looking forward to bringing it back, to getting into that place where there's nowhere to hide. That's really the thing. There is nowhere to hide when people are standing right in front of you. There's no trickery and there's no net.”

Keith is well known by fans for his incredible stage presence, often taking the show into the stands to get up close and personal with attendees. His crew, he says, are all used to his antics by now. “The truth is… I've done it for so long that I could run off and go in almost any direction and make it work with no security -- knock on wood -- I've been doing it so long, I can slip and slide in and out of almost anything from headlocks to freakish hugs,” Urban says.

“I was at a gig one time,” he recalls, “I ran out in the crowd; I was coming back and this woman I thought was just being a little bit too much of a fan, she latched onto my guitar and just wouldn't let it go. I'm sort of trying to get back to the stage and I'm pulling my guitar and she's coming with me and I'm like, ‘She's a complete psycho!’ It then occurred to me I'd hooked my guitar into the mesh of her clothing. She was trying to become untangled and I'm actually dragging her all the way back to the stage like a fish caught in a net and she's desperately trying to escape. The most unusual things can happen!”

Clothing mishaps aside, consistency is “all I know,” Keith says. “When we started touring there was two people and you give those two people a show like this, you know, 200,000 people, it doesn't matter. You just give it everything… I mean, they came, they went through whatever hoops they jumped through to make it to the show, give them 100%.”

As a native Aussie, Keith felt quite at home attending the NASCAR Street Race. “We certainly don't have the running moonshine history, you know, the real origins of it all,” he explained, “but the big one was called Bathurst, which is in a town called Bathurst in New South Wales. It's a rural area and they race around this entire rural area -- very much like NASCAR. They do a real circuit, and I think it might be 500 miles or something like that.”

“Driving,” Keith tells us, is “literally a passion for me. Even if we play Vegas, I'll send a car out there -- but my own car so that I can drive it to and from the gig, to the hotel or wherever I'm staying… Even if I'm in another country, I'll rent a car just so I can drive to the gig and home because the thing about coming off stage after playing for two hours, it's just rowdy noise just full-on sensory overload. Walking up, getting in my own car on my own, and quietly driving home is an amazing feeling. It's dead quiet. It's just me. I love it.”

“I don't really do much else,” he adds. “I don't golf. I don't hunt, I don't fish. I just play music. I write songs and drive cars. It's a full life.”

When putting together his forthcoming album  HIGH , Keith says what helped him find his way was realizing what it was not, “because it can only go up from there. It's like, ‘OK, I know what it isn't. That'll help me figure out what it is.’” Kind of like a Wordle approach to songwriting, he admits, “turning the situation around, to go, ‘this is cluing you and helping you.’“

Keith’s single “Straight Line,” he says he knew he wanted early on the record “because it just felt like the spirit. It’s an easy, digestible, instant catchy song. Then once you feel good about that, hopefully, then we can move through to the next bunch.”

His track “Go Home W U” featuring Lainey Wilson he tells us was already written and ready to go when he announced her as the 2024 CMAs Entertainer of the Year . “I'm like, ‘I can't believe I can't put this song out just yet,’” he remembers. “It was so frustrating.”

Keith recalls first hearing Lainey a few years ago, “I think somebody had played me a song that she had recorded, I think maybe before she even started working with Jay Joyce and it was just her voice… It's just a certain quality that you can't put your finger on. I heard her voice in a way that I thought, ‘I think our voices would go good together if we could find the right song,’ and originally that song wasn't a duet. That song had sat around for four years. We wrote it in 2020. We weren't intending to do it as a duet. A friend of mine, Dan McCarroll said, actually, ‘I think a girl could sing the second verse,’ and I looked at it and went, ‘Actually, I think it'll work. I happen to know the 'Entertainer of the Year' so I can put her on the phone.’"

Running through the rest of the album and landing on “Better Life For You,” "we wrote that song here in Chicago,” Keith reveals. “I think it's the first song I wrote with Richard Marx . Somebody suggested to write with him and he said, ‘I've got a house in Chicago. Why don't you come to the house and we'll just hang out for a couple of days and see what happens?’ We built this whole track, the two of us, and we have no words.”

The only logical choice was to put some gibberish together and record it to tape as well. “We went out into his car and just drove around all his area of Chicago playing this tape over and over again,” Urban remembers, going. "'I think this is a hell of a great song. But what is it about?’ We had no words, nothing… We would just come back and listen to it phonetically. ‘It sounds like you're saying ‘someday baby something or other,’ so we just sort of wrote it out phonetically."
