Imagine the metamorphosis of the Principality’s palace over 800 years as each Lord and Prince made his exceptional personal mark on it. All the more remarkable how it has come through sieges and revolutions to shine after its current restoration commissioned by Prince Albert II. 

And now after the last seven years of painstaking and meticulous devotion to detail the restorers can take a bow and watch the Palace open again to the public in all its glory. Friday July 1st marks the first day of the opening of the Palace “Grands Appartments” in what is sure to be one of the most popular visited attractions in Monaco. 

Delightful Furnishings

The French Revolution took its tole on the Palace furnishings and also some valuable works which disappeared from hangings of paintings from the historical collections of the Princes. But here we are over 200 years later and Prince Albert has found opportunities to trace many of them and buy them back for posterity and for you to view.

One painting in particular was by Jacopo Bassano purchased by Jacques I. displayed at the Hôtel de Matignon in Paris. Prince Albert II has bought the painting back and it now sits proudly once again in the Palace Green Antechamber together with paintings by Orazio de Ferrari and Philippe de Champaigne 

The furnishings too you will find delightful and arranged sympathetically lending authenticity and warmth to royal lives well lived. 

Visitors will discover all this on the new latest chronological tour of the Palace, a visual celebration of the history of the Grimaldi dynasty, illustrated with paintings and on display for the first time artworks. They include a portrait of Lucien, who came to power in 1505. 

Awe-Inspiring Frescoes

Almost akin to a “Big Bang” a Palace restoration team in 2015 revealed uncovered frescoes and hidden Italian masterpieces. Hard to believe these Genoese works from the 1500s, from the Renaissance had been painted over in the past, some hidden for five centuries from the transformation of the fortress into a palatial residence in the Genoese style. What a find! And 600 square metres of frescoes to view. 

Some of the most beautiful renderings are in the Galerie d’Hercule, where the frescoes were initially discovered. There is a huge fresco from the 16th century, depicting the 12 labours of Hercules. Hercules is the Roman demi-god and hero, who, according to legend, recognized the Rock.

But don’t miss the Chambre d’Europe (previously named the Matignon salon) with its now to be seen marvellous medallion representing the mythological episode of the abduction of Europa.  According to the myth, the god Jupiter, smitten with the nymph Europa, transformed himself into a white bull and abducted her.

The medallion was reportedly discovered after a fragment of plaster flaked off when an electrician was digging a groove in a corner of the ceiling.

Audio guides allow guests to enjoy their visit in 11 languages. There is also an app where videos show how the rooms would appear in use.  In the Throne Room, note the royal chair where Princes have been seated since the time of Charles III. Featured also is a decoration of Ulysses in Nekuia where he speaks to ghosts on his visit to the underworld. Intriguing also are the signs of the Zodiac.

The “Royal Quarter”

Intended to receive high-ranking guests, the Royal Quarter dates from the 17th century. You can peer into the royal antechamber, where in 1955 Prince Rainier III met Grace Kelly for the first time when she came to the Cannes film festival. 

The tour ends in the Galerie des Princes where busts of past sovereigns line the walls, including a compelling piece by contemporary artist Barry X Ball of Prince Albert II. The gold head has been noted to be made up of marine plant species that evidence the Sovereign’s commitment to the oceans.

Placed under the auspices of HSH Prince Albert II, the fresco conservation and restoration projects have strengthened the Palace of Monaco’s place in the history of global art. Not only is this due to the scale of the discoveries, but also the innovative and sustainable approach to their restoration.

Beyond the revelation of these exceptional frescoes dating back to the Italian Renaissance, this discovery resonates with the very history of the Principality and its secular connections to the Mediterranean world as well as the great myths that shaped its culture, and, more generally, its influence in the western world. Today, two heroes and a heroine of Antiquity, Hercules, Odysseus and Europa, have been brought back to life through the Palace frescoes.

On foot, 10 mins from Place d'Armes via the Rampe Major, 5 mins from Place de la Visitation through the narrow streets of the Le Rocher.

Monaco one day itinerary

Monaco is best visited as a day trip from Nice.  

Considering the high parking fees of €30 per day, driving in your car to Monaco is not recommended. Instead, train connections from Nice are more convenient to travel to and from the city state.

Moreover, the route is scenic and the regional TER train takes just 20 minutes and leaves every thirty minutes. 

Time your return train trip to Nice after 8:00 pm to avoid the maddening peak hours rush, as most of the public transport gets really crowded. 

You can also visit Monaco from Milan in northern Italy (via Menton). This journey is also done by trains (and no car is necessary). 

Leave the train station from the highest exit, the Sortie Monte Carlo. Once you are outside, look for signs or ask for directions to the Place du Casino. It is just a ten minutes walk away. This is the heart of Monte Carlo and possibly the most glamorous spot in entire Europe.

The Monte Carlo Casino is a world-famous gambling and entertainment complex. Featuring a beautiful setting on the Mediterranean Sea, the casino is known for its luxurious atmosphere and gambling opportunities.

This recently converted modern esplanade of red stone is surrounded by Belle Epoque buildings, palm trees and fountains. 

In the middle of the plaza is the Monte Carlo Casino, which opened in 1863 to lure tourists and add to the income of Monaco, which it certainly did.

Even if you are not a gambler, it is worth taking a look at its onyx columns, marble atrium and stained glass of the Carlo Casino, all adding to the dipped-in-money feeling. 

Visitors to the casino will find a wide variety of gaming options available, including Roulette, Blackjack, Craps, and Poker. The casino also features a number of restaurants and bars, as well as a dance club and live entertainment.

The Monte Carlo Casino is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Admission to the casino exterior and lobby is free.

Entry to the casino is €17, which includes a €10 bet voucher to place one bet. You are required to wear smart casual clothing, and no shorts or flip-flops are allowed. Jackets are a must after 7:00 pm and don’t forget to carry your passport!

Steps away lies the stunning Hotel de Paris Monte-Carlo, with a beautiful facade deserving for this ultra luxury hotel. 

Rest your weary feet for a while at the picturesque Cafe de Paris Monte-Carlo, a Monaco sightseeing staple since 1868.

Though not as old as Monaco Ville, the La Condamine district is the main business hub of Monaco and home to the sparkling Port Hercules. 

The port dates back to Greek and Roman times and is a key stop on any Monaco itinerary with its gleaming yachts against the backdrop of pricey residences perched on the hills behind.

This is also the starting and ending point of the famous Monaco Grand Prix with a part of the grand prix route going around the harbor on Boulevard Albert Premier.

To get here from Place du Casino, head west and take the elevator down to Quai des Etats Unis by the side of the port.

From Port Hercules head to the Le Rock area to visit the oceanographic museum , a famous Monte Carlo neo-classical institution set on a cliff rising dramatically out of the Mediterranean. 

This historic aquarium was established by Prince Albert the grandfather of the current prince over a century back.

Considered to be one of the best of its kind in the world, the museum is home to over 6000 species of fish, both poisonous and nonpoisonous.

Just outside the museum, you can opt to take the Monaco Little Train Tour, which takes you around Monaco on a brisk thirty minutes trip. 

Hang out in Old Town-Monaco Ville | Monaco Cathedral 

After the oceanographic museum head to the most illustrious part of Monaco, the Old Town. You won’t have far to go as a part of The Rock is in the Old Town itself. 

When strolling through the narrow cobbled streets you will come across the unmissable Saint Nicholas Cathedral where the much adored Princess Grace Kelly was laid to rest after her tragic death in a car accident in 1982.

Visit Museum of Old Monaco

While you are in the Old Town it is a good idea to check out the Museum of Old Monaco, located on 2, rue Emile de Loth, in order to gain a deeper insight on the principality’s rich heritage and diverse culture.

See the Prince’s Palace

One of the highlights of a day trip from Nice to Monaco is a visit to the Prince’s Palace, a Renaissance structure built on the site of a 13th century fortress and home of the current royal family. 

If you are there between October and April, you can take part in a lavish 40 minutes guided tour of the State Apartments. Here you will find gorgeous frescoes, the Carrera marble staircase, the mirror room and the absolutely stunning Blue Room.

Note : If you are on a cruise, or taking the train back from wherever you came, this is the time to wind up your Monaco itinerary. 

It is all downhill from the palace via a winding path to the station by following the sign posts, but do stop to admire the views on the way down. 

If you decide to stay back in Monaco for the night and are looking for some lively nighttime entertainment, the legendary nightclub of Monaco, La Rascasse, will fit the bill perfectly. 

The club is located at Quai Antoine, in Port Hercules, and really comes into its own during the F1.

Alternate tour recommendations for one day in Monaco Itinerary

Here is another Monaco day trip itinerary that includes a few different attractions in Monte Carlo.

In this itinerary, instead of existing to the Casino, choose the Exotic Garden area. The Jardin Exotique de Monaco is a botanical garden with amazing views of Monaco’s beaches and cliffs! Do check its opening hours prior to your visit.

From here walk to Port Hercules to grab a bite to eat. Along the way, admire the port area and the cool yachts lined up along the banks. 

Snap a photo or two, and then settle in for an early lunch. 

Next hop on the sightseeing bus tour, and check off the following – Casino, Grand Prix, Old Monaco Museum, and then head to Monaco One for shopping!

When you return back to the train station area, you can quickly pay a visit to the Sainte-Dévote Chapel, and then grab some food from the Casino Market (budget eating).

Beyond exploring Monaco in a day

If you have spare time in Monaco, there is plenty to see at this point south of France .

Fontvieille

A greater part of the Fontvielle district is located on reclaimed land and is a newer area lying south of Monaco Ville, with a port, parks, and museums. The top feature here is the Princess Grace Rose Garden with its 4,000 rose bushes.

These Japanese gardens were established by Prince Rainier in 1984. You can check out the vintage car collection of Prince Rainier III at the Terraces de Fontvielle.

Monaco beaches

Sadly, a day trip to Monaco does not include beach time, but if you are a fan of outdoor activities, a fun way to relax and explore some coves and swim is at Larvotto Beach.  

The beach is on Avenue Princess Grace, a bit north of Monte Carlo. The 400m long pebble beach is full of pricey clubs and restaurants, perfect for designer beach lounging. 

Beach access is free but it tends to get very crowded at times.

Thermes de Marin Spa

Connected to the Hermitage Hotel in Monte Carlo, the Thermes de Marin Spa is the best-known name in the world in spa and wellness circles. 

If you want to pamper yourself after a hard day of climbing up and down the slopes, this is the place to head to for some relaxation and rejuvenation.

Day trips from Monaco

While Monaco in itself is a charming destination on the French Riviera, its convenient location to Nice and other popular towns makes it an ideal base to explore some interesting places on a day trip.

Menton, France

A fast train from Monaco can bring you to Menton in just twelve minutes, making it an ideal way to spend a day at leisure from Monaco. 

The idyllic town is home to beaches and gardens, among which the Jardin Botanique Exotique is the most famous.

Stroll down the ancient streets and don’t forget to keep a camera handy for Instagram photos of the Mediterranean, the red-roof houses, and the mountains in the background. 

While in Menton, do pay a visit to the basilica, another important local attraction.

Nice, France

This sun-drenched lively city on the French Riviera needs no introduction with its unmissable attractions and natural beauty. 

A breezy thirty minutes train ride from Monaco will bring you to the railway station in Nice, from where all the attractions are within walking distance.

In Nice, you can chill out at the La Coulee Verte, where visitors come to picnic and kids frolic among huge dinosaurs as others watch the world go by. 

An institution of its own in Nice is the Flower Market, where you can wander among rows of fragrant flowers, organic fruits, and vegetables that are worth spending time in. On Mondays, this is converted into an antique market.

St Tropez, France

Your full-day trip from Monaco to St Tropez will bring you to the most iconic beach town in the world namely, St Tropez. 

As you travel west, you will come across stellar views along the Esterel Corniche road and the town of Port Grimaud and its canal system, reminiscent of Venice.

At St Tropez, explore the famous Pampelonne Beach and the provincial markets in Place des Lys every Tuesday. Visit the public squares and buy from cafes and shops before heading back to Monaco.

Travel Tips for Monaco

The Principality of Monaco follows the tourist entry requirements that are similar to France (and Italy). When we traveled from Italy via France – our passports were checked at the French border. 

If you need a Schengen visa for France, your tourist visa will be valid for Monaco as well. Since France is part of the Schengen Area, due to the Neighborhood agreement between France and Monaco you can enter the principality too and stay up to 90 days. 

For US and Canadian passport holders, no visa is needed but Schengen rules apply. 

Monaco is an expensive destination, so it is important to create a budget before your trip. This will help you make the most of your money while in Monaco.

Plan to set aside a minimum of €170 per person per day for your twenty-four hours in Monaco. This includes stay in an average hotel (€195/double room) and €47 and €16 on meals and transportation respectively. 

If you are in a group or a family with kids, the cost will reduce further as kids get to stay free in most hotels.

Note : Euros are the official currency. 

While the crime rate in Monaco is lower than in most European countries, it is advised to be vigilant in tourist places, public areas, and especially the Monaco train station. 

Ensure that your passport and other important belongings are secure and in sight at all times.

Security is provided by a 515 strong-armed police force which makes Monaco the most secure square mile in Europe. With such a super wealthy population, it is unlikely that anyone would want to steal your money.

Yes, you can surely walk around the main areas/districts in Monaco. There are inclined and elevated areas so we do recommend wearing comfortable shoes to explore various attractions.    If you wish to break for a bit, hop on a bus or use public escalators and elevators (free) to get around.

The French Riviera - Monaco-Monte Carlo, Cannes, Nice, Antibes

Just had a trip around Nice, France and Monaco and it was an absolutely incredible experience: - for me the best part of the trip is the walking trip in the old town of Nice with aristocratically built houses. The artistic architecture of the buildings like town hall, fountain or cathedrals and the detailed carved statues and sculptures was simply a mesmerizing sightseeing. Apart from that, one can also find themselves hypnotized in narrow, steep alleys surrounded by colourful tall houses. This is really a place for someone who loves taking picturesque photos of old time European buildings, or for someone who just wants to escape from the city life. - also to mention is that Nice has a really lovely and beautiful beach with crystal clear water. With the nice warm sunny weather, one could really enjoy swimming in the water there for hours. The bonus part of this is there is an old castle on the hill located just near the beach, from where one can take a panorama picture of the blue water beach on one side and the red tiled roofs of nearby houses on the other side, separated in the middle by a curvy road. - the walking tour around Monaco was absolutely amazing as well. My tour was guided by a really professional and well organizing British and he showed us a lot of sightseeing in Monaco, from an old classic castle with an old town nearby, aquarium museum, cathedral, casino to the bay with lots of majestic, shinny yachts docked in there. - Nice as well as Monaco also have markets that offer really nice and exquisite street food like sanwiches with ham and melting cheese or patisserie like a small but fine cheese cake with vanilla flavour. - and the hostel room (in Nice, France) was absolutely a comfortable and clean and quiet place to stay at the end of the day after the long, tired walking trip. Bonus part about the hostel is that they also have a really nice and cozy student-bar in the ground floor with lots of games like billiard, darts, table tennis, where everyone, especially young people can meet up there and have a conversation. I find it a really good place to meet and get to know new people and learn about the french culture. All in one, this is a really good trip for someone who would like to embrace the old European aristocratic architecture and take home lots of beautiful pictures of buildings, beaches, etc. or just want to enjoy a day at a beautiful beach. I personally would love to visit both places here again because there are still many things yet for me to discover! DN

We had a fabulous holiday. Our guide, Bruno was amazing and looked after us very well. He was interesting a fun and kind to all of the patrons. George was also an excellent ???? driver and fun, happy and kind at all times. Our only problem was the Evergreen Laurel. they placed us in a room that was 36 degrees with broken air con. After we consulted the staff they could not shift us. Then as we stayed an extra night and were shifted. We were placed in a room with bed bugs and were bitten. I wouldn't recommend the hotel at all. The La defense was far better. Overall staff were excellent.

Wonderful tour of France! We saw and did SO much in those 13 days! I enjoyed every day, but especially Nice, Lourdes, Bordeaux wine tasting, Mont St. Michel, and Omaha Beach and the US cemetery there. The included meals could’ve been better. At times, only one choice was offered, so I’d choose the vegetarian option on nights where I didn’t like the meat choice! I wish we had more time at some of the stops, but I guess that’s a reason to go back! The hotels were all acceptable, but if you’re looking for more luxury, book Trafalgar! For the price, you can’t beat this tour! I had a wonderful experience and will definitely use Costsaver/Trafalgar again!

The hotel was in a trendy location and the hotel/airport transfers went well. It would have been nice to have spent more time in Eze and Menton. Also, the tours should have been split up so that the English speaking people were in one group and the French speaking people were in another group instead of combining them so that everything had to be said in both languages. For the most part though a nice vacation.

The Tour du Mont Blanc is a circumambulation of the highest peak in the Alps. The Chamonix-Zermatt Haute Route is a classic alpine trek from Mont Blanc to the Matterhorn. Both offer exceptional scenery, wonderful accommodations, and superb cuisine. And both are very comparable in terms of distance, difficulty, and elevation gain.

Skiing The Haute Route: Everything you Need to Know

A Classic Ski Tour: The Haute Route

In the world of ultimate ski trips, there is one that is often at the top of every adventure skier’s bucket list – The Haute Route. Meaning “High Road” in English, The Haute Route traverses the French and Swiss Alps from Chamonix, France to Zermatt, Switzerland. As we head into Spring ski season, I can’t help but reflect on our Haute Route trip in 2017 with a group of very experienced ski friends and two professional guides (highly recommended for this trip). During the seven-day trip, our group set out to conquer the Haute Route while crossing glaciers and high mountain passes  using mountaineering equipment and touring skis .

Chamonix to Zermatt

Haute route day 1 – skiing argentière to refuge albert premier.

Our Haute Route trip begins with us all meeting in Martigny. From here we take the train to Argentière, then take the lifts up and Ski/Hike to Refuge Albert Premier. Originally we were to go to the Refuge Argentière, but it was completely booked. I think most people were there since Albert Premier was not so crowded.

Climbing stats  – 6 miles (9.6 km), 5 hrs 49 minutes, 2810 ft (856 M) ascent, 2396 ft (730 M) descent

Our guides inspected our gear at 7am, and off we went on the 7:45 am train to Argentierre.  Our Haute Route trip has begun!

The train ride up the Gorge du Trient was very cool, and time went by very quickly. From there, the walk from the train station to the telecabin station for the Grand Montets was our warm-up for this – our first day of the Haute Route.

Originally we had planned to take the Lognan Telecabin, followed by the Grand Montets with a nice ski down across the Argentièrre Glacier to our first big climb of the Col de Passon.   Unfortunately, the wind gods were not with us. It was snowing and blowing like crazy. The Grands Montets telecabin was closed (and it has since actually burned down).  Instead, we had to take the HERSE chair lift which added to our hike for this first day, so instead of skiing down to our first big climb – we climbed to it!

Upon arriving at the top of the HERSE chairlift, we’re ready to take a small downhill run on some icy pistes and begin our first ascent of the well known Col du Passon. Our goal for the day is to make our way to the Refuge Albert Premier. The original plan was to stay at Refuge Argentière, but it was booked a month ahead of time, so our plan shifted to the Refuge Albert Premier.

Inside Albert Premier, it is comfortable and not very crowded, as most start with Refuge Argentiere instead. Dinner is good, and thanks to Eric for carrying up the delicious dessert wine – a 2011 Grains de Malice seen on the table.

Haute Route Day 2 – Refuge Albert Premier to Cabane du Trient

First Breakfast in a hut – and early start off to Trient.

Climbing stats  – 4.75 miles (7.6 km), 5 hrs 38 min, 2437 ft (715 M) ascent, 907 ft (277 M) descent

On our second day of the Haute Route we covered the ski trek from Refuge Albert Premier to the Cabane du Trient. This took us through the Col du Midi, with some scary high winds. Most would do the Col Superieure du Tour, but the guides thought this track would be better with the high winds.

It was around this point that the guides noticed that Phil’s nose wasn’t his normal nose and that he was developing some signs of frostbite. Phil was “mister covered face” for the rest of the day!

Inside the Cabane du Trient where we enjoy dinner and take in the awesome views of the beautiful sunset before turning in for the night. A great way to end day two of the Haute Route!

Haute Route Day 3 – Cabane du Trient to Cabane des Dix – multiple stages

Well, this is a crazy day. Originally we were supposed to go from Cabane du Trient to Cabane du Mont Fort.  However, the guides realized the trip the day after – from Cabane du Mont Fort to Cabane des Dix – would be too much for our group. Two itineraries were proposed:

Option 1) Ski down to Champex, and take bus to Arolla, stay in hotel, and ascend to Cabane des Dix the next day.

Option 2) Skin up about a mile on day 3 to a helicopter approved landing area, then Heli over to Rosablanche and continue on to Cabane des Dix by ski that day.

Option 2 was only about 120 Fr more per person than Option 1, so all of us went with the Heli option.

Climbing stats  – part 1 to the Heli landing spot – 1.3 miles (2 km), 1 hrs 15 minutes, 706 ft (215 M) ascent, 361 ft (110 M) descent

Now it’s time to Climb the Rosablanche to the top, climb down, and trek over to the Cabane des Dix.  The below image illustrates the next phase.

Climbing stats –  part 3 to the Rosa Blanche to Cabane des Dix – 7.8 miles (12.6 km), 7 hours, elev gain 2631 ft (802 M), elev loss 3937 ft (1200 M) 

After skiing the great snow off of the Rosablanche, our descent down to the Lac des Dix began with a run down the Couloir de la Rosablanche. This couloir is well known to the ski racers of the Patrouille des Glaciers – the race between Zermatt and Verbier. Haute Route Day 4 – Rest Day at the Cabane des Dix 

After a long Day 3, we decided to make Day 4 a rest day. Great day to explore the hut a little more! Martin, our guide, explained that too often groups get into their huts at night, eat, go to bed, and never really get to know the character of their hut – this extra day at Cabane des Dix was awesome!!

Some of our group stayed in the hut and relaxed for the day. A few of us skinned up to La Luette to hit a local peak. For those of us that skinned up to La Luette, we were granted with what Martin called “Mouse knee-deep powder” at the beginning, but real powder at the top!

Climbing stats  – 3.75 miles (6km) , 3 hrs 55 minutes, 2000 ft (610 M) ascent, 2000 ft (610 M)descent

Tip:  Skip carrying a picnic lunch and go for the Rösti option in the Cabane, it is the way to go! Plus, none of the other huts could come close to the Cabane des Dix with regards to Beer selection – they must have had 10-15 choices, while others had 2.

Haute Route Day 5 – Skiing Cabane des Dix to Cabane des Vignettes

Day 5 starts early. Up at 4:30 am, we leave at 5:30 for the ascent on the Pigne D’Arolla. We had some illness in the group the day before (altitude sickness and perhaps some Asthma), and were worried about a possible need for evacuation. But, thankfully, we pulled it all together and we were ready to go for this big day! It was “headlamps on” and snowing when we started, and we were definitely the first group up and out the door!

Climbing stats  – 6.33 miles (10.2 km) , 11 hrs 56 minutes, 3080 ft (939 M) ascent, 2271 ft (692 M) descent

Side Story: What can happen on the Haute Route

There is a little side story that happened just around the time the picture above was taken. Visibility was horrible, you couldn’t see landmarks, etc…. Our guides stopped, checked their topo maps, altimeter and compass. I offered them a peek at my GAIA app that had topo and a GPS location on it, but they said “no, we’re ok.”

Another guide from Chamonix, leading another group who had been here the week before, passed us and veered to the right. I’m sure there might have been some second-guessing from our guides, but they were confident and we continued on.

We were the first group to hit the Serpentine. Who do you think pulled up behind us about 40 minutes after we last saw them? The group from Chamonix! Our guides were very modest about this, saying it could happen to anyone. But we couldn’t help but snicker at how the Tortoise (definitely our group), beat the hare – at least to the Serpentine!

Haute Route Day 6 – Cabane des Vignettes to Schönbielhütte

Day 6 started with a departure at 6:30 am. This was one of the longest days for all of us with 3 Col’s to climb – the Col de L’Eveque, the very steep Col du Mont Brulé, and the mentally draining Col du Valpelline. The ski run down beside the Matterhorn was amazing, but the final ascent up the Moraine ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moraine ​) to the hut was gruelling. There were times when rocks slid down the hill towards us. The joke of the day was that it was the Chamois pushing the rocks down on us.

The departure from the Cabane des Vignettes was not exactly pleasant as everyone in the hut was leaving at the same time. It was probably 120 people, and the sketchy icy path out of the hut potentially leading to a 500m fall off a cliff! Most people on this trek would go all the way to Zermatt (which I had done back in ’85), but we chose an alternate route including a stopover at an uncrowded Cabane Schöbielhütte. This is a super cool hut right next to the Matterhorn. That way we could then arrive early in Zermatt on our last day with no rushing necessary.

Climbing stats  – 13.66 miles (22 km) , 11 hrs 14 minutes, 4196 ft (1279 M) ascent, 5696 ft (1736 M) descent

Haute Route Day 7 – Schönbielhütte to Zermatt

Day 7 is our easy day – a cruisy, relaxing run all the way down to Zermatt. 

Climbing stats  – 7.23 miles (11.6 km), 1 hrs 58 minutes, 6 ft (2 M) ascent, 3477 ft (1060 M) descent

Avec ce centre de Gomes, repris de la tête par Haraldsson au premier poteau. Pas assez puissant pour inquiéter Majecki.

Youssouf Fofana récupère le ballon à 25 m de la cage et décoche une frappe soudaine du pîed gauche. Chevalier est battu au premier poteau !

Après un temps fort lillois en début de seconde période, les Monégasques ont le pied sur le ballon depuis 10 minutes. Sans, pour l'instant, trouver la faille.

Sur un second ballon, Fofana dévie pour Ben Yedder, seul au deuxième poteau. L'avant-centre (signalé hors jeun à tort) arme en angle fermé, mais Chevalier sort à toute vitesse devant lui et détourne !

Sur une récupération haute de Balogun, Minamino brosse un tir à l'entrée de la surface. Un mètre à côté du but.

Après un bon une-deux avec Minamino, Ben Yedder veut enchaîner devant le but. Le capitaine est bien placé aux 6 m, mais il est gêné par Balogun au moment d'armer ! Quel dommage pour l'ASM.

Fofana perd le ballon devant son but. Bentaleb tente un centre, bien anticipé par Majecki qui avait délaissé son but.

Le Losc repart fort avec cet extérieur du pied délicieux d'Haraldsson, repris de la tête par Gudmunsson. Sa tête rageuse touche le poteau et sort en six mètres !

Superbement lancé par Gomes, Haraldsson progresse et se retrouve face à Majecki. L'Islandais choisit le premier poteau mais ne cadre pas son tir ! Quelle occasion pour le Losc.

Le Japonais se fraie un espace dans la surface et se présente devant Chevalier, mais il est déséquilibré avant de frapper. M.Turpin ne bronche pas, et avertit au contraire Akliouche pour contestation.

35e : Minamino trop court

Diatta tente de lancer le Japonais dans la surface. Ce dernier tente un contrôle porte-manteau délicat, qu'il est à deux doigts de réussir. Cela file finalement en six mètres.

33e : Gudmunsson se précipite

Le Suédois récupère le ballon dans les pieds de Diatta et enchaîne avec un centre fort capté par Majecki. Il y avait mieux à faire, avec David en retrait notamment.

30e : Diakité se trompe

Complètement seul aux 6 m sur un corner, Bafodé Diakité se trompe de surface de la tête et prend le ballon du haut du crâne. Cela s'envole dans le ciel monégasque.

27e : Fofana au-dessus

Cela va d'un but à l'autre : sur un corner monégasque, Youssouf Fofana gagne son duel au point de pénalty. Mais sa reprise de la tête passe un mètre au-dessus du but.

26e : Yoro trop court

Sur un coup franc excellement brossé par Bentaleb, trois Lillois sont en mesure de reprendre le ballon. Yoro le dévie au second poteau, mais manque de puissance. Majecki s'en saisit.

24e : Le temps fort monégasque se précise

Lancé dans la profondeur, Balogun tente de dribbler Chevalier, sorti devant lui. Mais le gardien ne se laisse pas embarquer et se saisit du ballon dans les pieds de l'attaquant ! Derrière, Minamino ne peut frapper.

22e : Zakaria d'encore plus loin

Buteur à longue distance à Brest ce week-end, Zakaria s'essaie à 30 m. Malgré un petit rebond, cela manque de puissance pour tromper Chevalier. 

20e : Le frisson Minamino

Le Japonais récupère dans les pieds de Bentaleb et enchaîne avec une demi volée à 25 m. C'est très puissant, et cela frôle la lucarne gauche lilloise ! La meilleure occasion pour l'ASM jusque-là.

17e : Balogun lobé

Akliouche cherche son avant-centre dans la surface, mais sa passe en cloche est trop haute. Chevalier s'en saisit. Les offensives monégasques manquent pour l'instant de justesse.

14e : Majecki décisif !

La menace lilloise se précise. Sur une superbe ouverture, Bentaleb trouve Haraldsson dans la surface. L'Islandais redresse le ballon pour un centre contré par Kehrer. Cela prend le chemin du but, mais Majecki claque le cuir in extremis !

Un choc pour la C1, le PSG champion ?

• Ce choc entre Monaco et Lille , en match en retard de la 29e journée de Ligue 1 peut offrir le titre au PSG. En cas de nul ou de victoire lilloise, Paris sera champion pour la 12e fois.
• L'ASM et le Losc se livrent une bataille féroce pour la Ligue des champions. Les Monégasques sont actuellement 2es, 3 points devant les Lillois (4es). En cas de victoire, Lille remontera à la 2e place
