Vivian Health Travel Nursing Review 2023

  • Last Updated: April 18, 2023

While Vivian Health isn’t technically a travel nursing agency, they do help travel nurses find assignments.

The demand for nurses is greater today than ever before. Even before COVID-19, healthcare facilities across the country had been constantly understaffed.

To fill this demand, plenty of travel nurse staffing agencies have sprung up over the past decade, connecting travel nurses with the understaffed facilities.

However, not every staffing agency is made equal. Choosing the right one can be difficult, especially with all the different options.

So, where does Vivian Health stand among its peer companies? In this post, you’ll see if travel nursing through Vivian Health may be a good fit for you.

Table of contents

Why choose travel nursing with vivian health, how to use vivian health for travel nursing, 1. intuitive interface, 2. one single profile, 3. plenty of options, 4. convenience, downside of travel nursing with vivian health.

As we mentioned earlier, Vivian Health is technically not a travel nursing agency. You don’t sign a contract with them and they don’t give you assignments directly.

However, like Wanderly , Vivian Health makes the process of finding and selecting your travel nurse agency far easier.

The platform is:

  • Third party
  • Tech powered

Their app that lets you browse and select travel nurse staffing agencies and apply to work with them.

Vivian Health makes the process of finding travel nursing assignments simple.

To start using the platform, follow these steps:

  • Make a Vivian Health account and profile
  • Log into the app
  • Look for the jobs, locations, and staffing agencies that fit your personal criteria
  • Send one universal application to various agencies and select the best one

According to the folks from Vivian Health themselves, their mission is to empower all healthcare professionals in their search for the perfect job opportunity.

They want the process to run more efficiently and easily than ever before.

Benefits Of Travel Nursing With Vivian Health

You won’t be signing up to work with Vivian Health directly. However, you will be using their platform to find your new staffing agency.

Now, you’re probably wondering: is Vivian Health worth it? After all, plenty of processes get muddled when you include a third party in the mix.

In this case, we’re happy to report that there are plenty of benefits to travel nursing with Vivian Health. They do a great job of streamlining the process of finding your next assignment.

Here are 4 pros of using Vivian Health to find travel nursing assignments.

At its core, Vivian Health is a web platform. This means their services are only worthwhile if their platform is usable.

Luckily, Vivian Health has to created an intuitive interface that anyone can use to find a staffing assignment quickly and easily.

It’s not just for travel nurses either! Nurses use it to find permanent positions in their local healthcare facilities as well.

All it requires is a couple of clicks once you fill in your profile.

One of the best things about Vivian Health is that you only need to create one profile to apply to hundreds of healthcare employers.

It’s the main draw of the platform. Instead of filling out various forms at different staffing agencies, you only create your Vivian profile once.

After that, all you need to do is apply.

There are lots of different options for travel nurses these days. However, all of us still have our preferences.

You may be comfortable with very specific shift details, or you may want to work in a particular location. And, of course, salary is an important factor to consider.

Vivian Health clearly kept these varying preferences in mind as they designed their platform. The interface is super easy-to-use.

It lets you select different filters and preferences, including location, salary, and more. Once you tweak these, the platform will present you with jobs that are relevant to your specific needs.

The main selling point of Vivian Health is convenience. From the streamlined interface to the universal profile that saves you hours of menial work, it’s all designed to cater to travel nurses and their busy schedules.

There are other ways in which Vivian Health does this as well. For instance, the platform lets you message multiple employers at once.

You also don’t have to manage an already cluttered email inbox while searching for work. All of your communication with potential employers will be in one convenient location.

Best of all, you’ll never be underpaid!

Vivian Health provides you with monthly updates on your average salary expectations based on your professional details and location. This is all derived from an analysis of the current job market in real time.

There’s really only one downside to travel nursing with Vivian Health: they’re not technically a travel nurse agency.

That means the quality of your experience will depend on the staffing agency you choose through the platform.

If you’re looking for an easy and convenient way to find your next travel nursing assignment, Vivian health may be just the platform for you.

While you won’t be working directly for the company, they make it easy to search for staffing agencies based on your personal preferences.

Occupational Therapist

Vivian connected me with CoreMedical Group which were some of the greatest, most supportive people I have ever worked with. Vivian technology and CoreMedical Group were supportive through the whole job search process and even dealing with some unusual circumstances, but Vivian kept the communications open and flowing until my position was completely secured. I just can’t give enough positive feedback about Vivian staff and CoreMedical Group personnel professionalism, prompt return of calls, texts, and emails. Vivian is a great tool and it helped me find a job in a few days after looking on my own for a few years. I started my new job and I love it. Choose carefully and if you just want the best choose Vivian and couple that with CoreMedical Group and move forward. Don’t hesitate and stay in a job you don’t like or want, there are tons of jobs out there and Vivian with CoreMedical can help you find the best fit. You will have to do quite a bit of paperwork but it is certainly worth it for more pay, better benefits and a happier work life. Weather your a PT, OT, SLP, RD, LPN, or RN, I strongly urge you to give Vivian a hard look and give CoreMedical Group a chance and see what comes up. You have nothing to lose except a job you don’t want. Take care, Rich Watt OTR/L, ATP

Developer Response ,

Hi Rich! Awesome feedback for CoreMedical Group! We would love to see this review in the Employer Reviews page (located under 'Resources' in the home page) so the agency can see your kudos, plus it may be helpful for other candidates who are still seeking for an agency that's the best match for them. If you have anything to share about your overall experience on the app, you may add it to this review as well. Thank you!

Changing the travel nursing game

I love that I can essentially load up my profile and apply to a multitude of jobs from multiple companies and sort those jobs by specifics of state, shift, pay, permanent or travel jobs. I was doubtful at first but as I navigate the app and prepare to actively submit for multiple jobs I am very hopeful about the jobs that have been presented. I’ll have to update once I accept. It is also my litmus test about what the market is doing in areas that I wanna travel to. Makes it very easy to compare jobs from recruiters were actively reaching out to me from the same hospitals that are noted on here and either ask for an increase in pay if another agency is offering other benefits such as bonuses etc.

Nothing but upside

Like most things in our industry, some agencies and recruiters on NurseFly can really be hit or miss, but even with the occasional recruiter being unresponsive, you still get insight into the demand for our services across a wide selection of agencies, which is transparency I’ve never gotten anywhere else. Even if you end up going with your own recruiter, there’s no reason not to check NurseFly, it’s easy and could just help you make sure you’re getting paid the most you could be for your next travel assignment.

September 2023 Travel Nursing Salary Trends By State

Michael Hines

By Michael Hines

Oct 5, 2023

Following months of anticipation, the average travel nursing salary nationwide has finally stopped decreasing for the first time in 2023, according to September wage data from Vivian Health. Starting in our June 2023 travel nurse wage report and again in our July report and August report , we noted that the pace of travel RN wage decreases was moderating during the summer months. Autumn is here, and now national average wage decreases have ended – at least for the time being.

Nationwide, average weekly travel nurse pay was virtually unchanged throughout the month of September compared to the rates paid in the month of August. Both months recorded average weekly wages of $2,430, representing a 0.0% change month over month.

Travel nursing still commands a 7.6% premium compared to the prevailing travel nurse wage before the COVID-19 pandemic in January 2020, when average wages were $2,257 adjusted for inflation. Of course, the situation varies by state. For instance, as of September, California’s average travel nurse wages of $2,946 per week is the highest in the nation. Alternately, Alabama's weekly travel RN salary is the lowest at just $2,062, with the remaining states falling somewhere in between.

States with Travel Nursing Salary Increases

September saw 11 states record travel nurse pay increases of 1.0% or more. New Jersey stands out with the most significant percent increase of 3.9%, rising to $2,769 per week. Not far behind was the 3.2% increase in Alaska, with weekly wage climbing to $2,771 per week. These increases give Alaska and New Jersey the second and third-highest travel nurse wages in the nation, respectively, behind California. We’ve noted in recent months that high energy prices and record oil royalty payments may be boosting the Alaskan economy and contributing to wage growth there.

States Where Travel Nurse Pay Decreased

Only 12 states recorded travel RN salary decreases of 1.0% or more in September, a distinct drop from the 22 last month and 26 the month before.

The greatest wage decrease occurred in Delaware, which has exhibited some wage whiplash lately. In August, Delaware saw the largest increase in wages of any state, climbing 3.9% from $2,669 per week to $2,772. In September, Delaware lost all those gains and then some, having the largest wage decrease of any state, falling 8.7% to $2,530 per week.

Frame 29771 (1)

As a state with a relatively small population, Delaware may be prone to more significant swings in average wages due to fewer travel nurse positions posted each month.

Most States Record Roughly Flat Travel RN Salaries

With overall national average wages unchanged month over month, it isn’t surprising that more than half the states, 27 to be exact, experienced wage changes of less than 1.0% up or down in September. States in this category ran the gamut from higher-wage states like California to lower-wage states like Arkansas.

Future Travel Pay Rates Impact on Recruiting

Now that travel RN wages are relatively flat, the question remains where they’ll head for the rest of 2023. Rising interest rates, which historically can slow economic growth, and the end of the pandemic health emergency may have contributed to falling travel nurse wages earlier this year.  Now, some economists anticipate the Federal Reserve may stop raising interest rates. We wonder if the coming months could see travel RN salaries remain relatively flat.

If travel nurse salaries remain flat and only marginally higher than before the pandemic, it would be a great time for health systems to consider other ways to stand out and recruit candidates. One tool is to use pay transparency when listing jobs to attract more qualified candidates. Candidates are more likely to respond to job listings with pay posted upfront.

Vivian can provide guidance to your organization about hiring best practices and tools for both staff and travel recruitment.
