Tiny Little Changes

Trip Drinks Review: Is This Botanical Beverage Worth It?

Trip Drinks

Right now, I suspect I am an advertiser’s dream when it comes to soft drinks – especially anything with interesting added ingredients and health benefits. I no longer drink alcohol , so am always in the market for interesting new “grown up drinks” – which is why I’ve already reviewed so many for this site.

As is often the case, I discovered Trip’s range of “CBD Infused” drinks via a targeted ad on Facebook. I was intrigued enough to put in an order, and in this Trip Drinks review, I let you know my views on the whole range.

I’m always excited to try out new drinks, but I only tend to order them more than once if they really impress – especially as so many new products are coming out at the moment.

To find out whether Trip Drinks got a second order from me, you’ll have to read on.

NOTE: I’ve now also written a Trip CBD Oil review .

What Are Trip Drinks?

Trip Drinks is a range of healthy soft drinks infused with CBD, and a range of natural botanicals including lemon balm and ginseng. Although it’s a relatively new range, it has gathered considerable momentum already, with positive praise from the likes of Forbes, Vogue and The Guardian.

Sold as a product that can help you to “find your calm amidst the every day chaos,” the drinks are among many products currently hitting the market that incorporate natural, herbal ingredients that have various health and anti-anxiety benefits.

Trip CBD infused peach and ginger drink

What is In Trip Drinks?

Trip drinks have a base of water and natural fruit juice concentrates. They’re naturally sweetened with steviol, an ingredient many health-conscious people (myself included) prefer to chemicals like aspartame and sucralose.

The interesting part is the added botanical ingredients, and the inclusion of a small dose of CBD (cannabidiol) – a non-psychoactive ingredient derived from the cannabis plant.

CBD is all the rage these days, with many fans (again, myself included), who report benefits such as a greater sense of calm, reduced anxiety, and less pain and inflammation.

Here’s a quick run-down of all the botanicals included in Trip drinks, along with their perceived benefits. I must emphasise that these are benefits they are widely thought to have. I’m not making any medical claims here – this is a personal blog, not a scientific paper.

CBD : This increasingly popular ingredient is a massive deal these days. It’s often used as a natural remedy for anxiety, for lots of pain-related conditions such as arthritis and neuropathy, and to relieve nausea. It does NOT get you “high,” in case you’re wondering! To find out more about it, check out this guide from Harvard University .

Lemon Balm: Lemon balm is from the mint family, and people have long believed it to promote relaxation and to aid in many ailments. These include headaches, nausea and menstrual cramps. This Healthline article discusses several studies into those claims.

Lemon Balm Plant

Ginseng: This is a supplement that has been used for centuries, and is particularly popular in China and Korea. It is thought to help with everything from cognitive function to blood sugar levels. That said, there is limited medical evidence for these long-believed claims.

L-Theanine : L-Theanine is an amino acid that naturally occurs in tea. It’s said to be good for memory and clarity, and many people believe it’s a good compliment to caffeine. I am one of those people, as it seems to “take the edge” off the jittery buzz. (L Theanine is also found in Three Spirit’s Non Alcoholic Spirits range – reviewed here – where I have particularly noticed that positive effect).

Chamomile: Most of us are familiar with chamomile tea. It’s a hugely popular ingredient to promote sleep and relaxation.

Turmeric: The only Trip drink that includes turmeric is the peach and ginger variety. As well as giving the drink a striking orange colour, turmeric is seen (particularly in India) as a medicinal herb, used for everything from hayfever to depression and itching. As with the ginseng, there isn’t yet much in the way of peer-reviewed evidence to support these beliefs.

Trip Drinks Review: Flavour By Flavour

In a moment, we’ll move on to the “effects” of Trip drinks, and discuss whether you notice any tangible benefits. But first, let’s look at something that’s arguably more important – what they taste like.

Trip Lemon Basil Drink

This particular drink provides exactly what it says on the can. It’s probably the most “herbal” of the three in terms of both aroma and flavour. It tastes of lemon, and it tastes of basil – so I guess we can say “mission accomplished!”

The flavour is in perfect balance, and it’s an agreeable herbal taste, not a nasty Jägermeister-like herbal taste!

I’m not convinced it would appeal to everybody, but I enjoy it very much.

VERDICT: 8/10

Trip Elderflower Mint

Until I tried Trip drinks, I had no idea that I would enjoy a drink that tastes – frankly – like Wrigley’s Spearmint chewing gum. It really does!

That may sound a bit odd, but it’s genuinely not a bad thing. I have to confess that I can’t taste much in the way of elderflower, but the overall flavour is really good. This is probably my favourite of the three.

VERDICT: 9/10

Trip Peach Ginger

The Peach Ginger is the one that includes turmeric, and as you can see from the photo near the top of this review, it gives the drink a very bright orange colour.

Flavour-wise it’s a strong ginger, but not an overly spicy ginger. It’s very refreshing, although the ginger overpowers the peach a little. It’s a mouth-filling taste, with a fresh aroma. I don’t know if it’s possible for something to “smell healthy,” but it kind of does.

Trip Drinks

I’m going to have to disappoint the hedonists reading this by saying that if you’re expecting Trip drinks to blast you into the stratosphere, you’re going to be sorely disappointed!

Despite the “Trip” name, these are very much a wellbeing product, and any “effects” will be subtle at best. Let’s be realistic, folks, they sell these in Sainsbury’s!

However, I like to test products throughly, and with an open mind. With that ethos, I drank several of these before creating my Trip Drinks review. I did so at times when I could have a good chance to really focus in on whether I “noticed anything,” such as when I was about to sit down for a period of uninterrupted work.

I first want to talk about the CBD. Something I’ve not revealed until now is that I am a regular (daily) user of CBD. I find it enormously helpful for my anxiety and general state of mind. I am strongly considering setting up a separate site to discuss it, and to review the products I use.

With that in mind, I do (for fear of sounding conceited) know a LOT about CBD. And one thing I know is that the dose of CBD needed to feel positive effects can vary wildly from person to person. I also know that – for most – the 15mg “dose” in a can of Trip is a pretty small one.

This is compounded by the bioavailability of CBD when you eat or drink it. That sounds awfully technical, but it essentially relates to how much of the substance is actually absorbed by the body. Some estimates are that it is as low as 4%.

This is why I vape my CBD, as it’s a much more “bioavailable” method of taking it. And I use much bigger doses than 15mg! That’s very much another story, but my point is that the 15mg dose in Trip (and, indeed, in almost every CBD drink on the market) is probably too low to really do much for many people.

This by no means implies that there’s anything disingenuous about the product or its marketing. All I’m saying is not to expect miracles, nor to assume CBD does nothing for you if this is the first and only such product you try.

The Other Botanical Ingredients

The other herbal ingredients in Trip are a blend intended to promote stress relief, relaxation and better digestion. I’ve tried most of them before – alone or in other products – at various times.

I have to say I was intrigued by the presence of chamomile. It’s something usually seen as a bedtime supplement, so I was concerned Trip would make me sleepy. Thankfully it didn’t.

I’ve generally been having a can of Trip mid afternoon. This is when I’d often reach for a second can of Diet Coke – a decision I frequently regret afterwards because it leaves me feeling washed-out and jittery.

Drinking Trip Lemon Basil at my Computer

Drinking Trip doesn’t suddenly make me feel “different.” It’s not like when I vape CBD, which can provide a really notable sense of calm, and a slowdown of racing thoughts. However, I do tend to feel focussed and quite “zen” after drinking Trip. It may be placebo, to an extent, but millions of people believe in these ingredients, and have done for hundreds of years.

My digestion has also been very good since I’ve been drinking these regularly. However, I should say that digestion doesn’t really give me much trouble anyway, since I quit drinking alcohol!

All in all, I have a “what’s not to like?” perception of these drinks. They taste good, they seem healthy, and they are clearly a better choice than more Diet Coke while I’m sitting at my desk.

I couldn’t swear that my focus and level of calm would be any different without them – but that goes for every supplement and health product out there!

Ingredients, Calories and Nutrition

Whenever I do a drinks review, I like to have a good look at the ingredients and nutritional information.

There’s nothing in Trip Drinks that seriously worries me. There’s water (it doesn’t specify spring water), fruit juices from concentrates, the CBD and botanicals, and steviol glycosides as the sweetener. One addition that many of the drinks I review do without is erythritol, a flavour enhancer – just so you know!

The drinks are 20 calories per can , so not much to concern you there. They are also vegan, and have no added sugar.

One thing that’s a bit of a shame is that other than the CBD, Trip don’t tell us the quantities of the ginseng, L-Theanine etc. That’s quite common in products like this, and presumably they don’t want to give away the trade secrets. However, it does leave you wondering how “meaningful” a quantity of those ingredients you’re consuming.

Presentation

I only include a presentation section in these reviews when there’s something positive to say. While the presentation didn’t blow me away as much as when I did my review of Jukes Coridalities , the drinks do come in a nice box with a leaflet, when you buy a small mixed case. This is shown in the earlier photos.

Ethics and Eco Credentials

Trip Drinks come with 100% recyclable packaging, and everything is made in the UK.

I always find it interesting to see what these “craft” brands do to contribute to wider society. While I didn’t see anything on the website about charity initiatives or donations, the company does offer some discounts – for healthcare workers, key workers, and 18-25s.

This is a great initiative, and it follows the lead of lots of US-based CBD businesses, which are generally a little more evolved than those here in the UK.

Trip discounts

As we near the end of this Trip Drinks review, we come to the all important question of price.

As with many things, the price goes down for larger orders. If you buy a case of 24 cans, this costs £39, which works out to £1.63 per can. If you buy a pack of six (which is also available as a mix with all three flavours), this costs £14 – or £2.33 per can.

I think the pricing is well pitched – it’s not cheap, but it’s not luck-pushingly expensive either. And plenty of artisan drink makers DO push their luck on price.

Trip Drinks Coupon Codes

Use can use the following code to make savings on drinks and other products from the Trip website:

Use code AFFTRIP15 here to save 15% on spends over £50

As I said at the start of my review, the way I truly judge a product is whether I buy it again after my initial order.

Well, I’m pleased to say I’m now on my second box of Trip Drinks, and I think they’re going to end up in my permanent rotation.

As somebody who doesn’t drink alcohol, it’s nice to have some alternatives in my armoury. I’m thankful to live in a time when there are SO many options, with more coming to the marketplace all the time.

Don’t expect some earth-shattering effect from the CBD and other ingredients. If you notice anything it will be subtle, not profound. However, they do seem to make me feel rather “zen.” They also have great flavour. They are pleasantly “different,” without being too weird to be enjoyable!

Recommended.

Where To Buy Trip Drinks

Trip drinks are available across the UK, and I’ve even seen them in my local Sainsbury’s – but the easiest place to get them is on the company’s website. Pleasingly, UK shipping is free, and the company also ships internationally.

15 thoughts on “Trip Drinks Review: Is This Botanical Beverage Worth It?”

This was a great review thank you. As someone who is looking to go alcohol free it’s lovely to see drinks on offer that can replace alcohol without having to order a lemonade!

Hi Lucy, You’ll find plenty of other alcohol-free alternatives on the site too 🙂

Best wishes,

Is anyone able to tell me how much turmeric is in one drink please?

I don’t know off hand Lisa, I’m afraid, but I will look on the can next time I have some in the house!

Thank you for your detailed review. It is really helpful to have such detailed insight. I do have an issue with their discount policy. I find the notion that only certain workers are “key” distasteful. Why are not factory workers processing food, or bus drivers, or indeed anyone providing a service key and thus entitled to a discount. The fact that they offer NHS workers and healthcare workers a 50% discount tells me the drinks are way over priced for everyone. Again thanks for your review on the content of the these drinks.

I am a recovering alcoholic.. are these safe for me, as obviously concerned about the CPD .. thank you as don’t think these are mind altering, plus it could be a good promotion 😉thank you

Hi Pat – I’m reluctant to give you a firm answer on that. I’ve been sober for over two years, and drink these as well as alcohol free beers and all kinds of similar things. But I know that some alcoholics find NA beers triggering – so no two people are the same. I don’t honestly THINK Trip would cause you a problem, and it certainly doesn’t make me feel “altered” – but everybody’s different. 🙂

Hi Ben, excellent article, thank you.

I’m interested in starting with CBD and your mention of a vaping solution intrigued me… Please can you let me know any recommendations you have in this area?

Hi Andy – If you’re in the UK, I’d suggest having a look at products from HighKind and Orange County CBD.

Thanks for this review. I’ll probably give these Trip drinks a trial based on what you’ve written. Thanks also for your other reviews. Reading them has eaten up a big chunk of my afternoon! I’ve been on the wagon since February and tried a few options: red wine (both went down well – down the sink that is); no alc gin (Gordon’s is OK but it’s just a herby drink really. I shove lots of ice, some fresh mint and tonic in there and pretend it’s a mojito). Beer is the most successful. I notice you didn’t mention (though you’ve probably sampled) Adnam’s Ghost Ship 0.5 (full flavoured with a slight citrus finish) and my favourite so far, Erdinger Alkoholfrei 0.5 (very much like a pilsner so softer on the palate). Thanks again for your encouraging, informative and well-written pieces.

Hi Jeff – thanks for reading and glad you’ve enjoyed my articles!

Yes, I’m familiar with the Ghost Ship and like it a lot, especially on the rare occasions when I find it on draft 🙂 The Erdinger is good too. Brookly Special Effects is one I’m particularly enjoying right now, along with Clear Head, from Bristol Brewery, which also donates money to mental health charities.

All the best, Ben

Ps. For non alcoholic gin, my wife and I have both been impressed with Tanqueray.

My husband is really struggling with anxiety at the moment and I was hoping these drinks might be the answer for him. However, you said about the dose not really being enough for most people. Vape isn’t something he would consider, are there any other alternatives that could be more successful?

I think anxiety is a huge problem for many people at the moment, especially those of us living through these grim times in the UK.

You could maybe start him off with Trip’s CBD oil , which will give a much stronger effect, and he will be able to experiment with the dosage. Here’s my affiliate link 🙂

It’s worth trying to use the code AFFTRIPCASH – which should give you 15% off spends over £35.

I’ve found CBD hugely helpful for anxiety – if nothing else it can help with sleep. However, it’s not a miracle cure. I’ve had some bad anxiety myself recently that CBD hasn’t been enough to fix – but I think it’s largely situational and being surrounded by such doom and gloom. It’s certainly worth a try!

All the best to you both.

Can you drink trip if you’re on warfarin

Hi Richard,

You would need to check that with your doctor. I cannot provide medical advice and I’m almost certain any CBD company would say the same.

CBD TRIP Drink Review: Everything You Need To Know

Published by reema patel on 10th may 2024 10th may 2024.

TRIP is a cannabidiol ( CBD) brand, launched in the UK in 2019 offering a range of drinks that provide a source of CBD and adaptogens. Alongside the CBD-infused drinks, they also offer CBD oils and CBD-infused cold brew coffee. CBD is non-psychoactive, and claims to offer a feeling of calmness, improving tiredness, creativity, anxiety and productivity levels. We will look closely into the products to provide a detailed TRIP drink review , if it is something worth buying, how do they taste, who is it safe for, and what is the effect on the body.

Book a consultation with a dietitian here.

What are TRIP drinks?

TRIP is a brand of drinks that provide a source of CBD. This is the non-psychoactive compound found in hemp plants, and unlike the active compound tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), it doesn’t get you high. The TRIP drinks are produced in the UK, and the CBD is derived from hemp. According to the TRIP website, all products are third party tested to ensure they are THC free and of high quality and purity. The drinks come in a range of flavours, including elderflower & mint, peach & ginger and lemon basil, as well as a cold brew coffee drink, and a ‘Calm Down’ CBD drink, which is a raspberry and orange blossom flavour. All of the TRIP CBD is vegan, gluten free and palm oil free.

TRIP drink can

Do CBD TRIP drinks do anything?

TRIP drinks are infused with CBD , which is the non-psychoactive part of the hemp plant. They will not make the drinker ‘high’ but it can make the drinker feel more balanced and calm. This can typically take around 20 minutes to feel after the drink has been consumed, though the effects can differ from person to person. CBD itself can promote a sense of calmness and relaxation, which may help to better manage stress and anxiety. CBD-infused drinks may also improve sleep quality, due to the relaxation properties of the drinks. One study from 2019 showed that CBD improved sleep and anxiety in those who consumed CBD for a month.

How does TRIP drink make you feel?

The properties of TRIP largely come from the CBD it contains. Although CBD is part of the cannabis plant, it does not contain any psychoactive properties, such of that of THC, which is a different compound. Instead, CBD is meant to help the drinker to unwind and relax, without the feeling of getting ‘high’.

CBD can help you to relax and unwind, allowing your body to find balance. Unlike with THC, you won’t experience physical or mental impairment and it won’t get you high. The length of time it takes for CBD to take effect is likely to be different from person to person and varies based on the individual. For instance, an individual’s metabolism, diet, weight and genetics could play a role in the period of time it takes for CBD to come into effect. However, CBD generally gets to work quite quickly, and it can take as little as 15 minutes for you to feel more like yourself.

How long do TRIP drinks take to work?

The length of time it takes for the TRIP drinks to work can vary from person to person for a number of factors. This includes the persons age, weight, metabolism and diet, as well as genetics. On average, the effect from CBD drinks can be felt within 15-20 minutes, and can last for up to 4 hours. Compared to consuming foods with CBD, which can take up to an hour for any effects to be felt, and can last for up to 6 hours after ingestion.

Are TRIP drinks alcohol free?

Yes, all TRIP drinks are alcohol free, with 0.0% ABV. No alcohol is used in the production of TRIP drinks.

How much CBD is in a TRIP drink?

There is 15mg of CBD in a 250ml can of TRIP drink. As CBD is not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), there is no official recommendation of how much CBD is safe to consume, or how much is needed to feel the claimed effects of CBD.

TRIP drink flavours

Elderflower mint.

This flavour provides a forward aroma of elderflower, with a tone of crisp and clean mint, to give a coolness. The elderflower is sweet and floral, but is balanced well with the zesty freshness of mint.

Elderflower Mint TRIP

Peach & Ginger

The main flavour of this combination is the sweetness of ripe peach, combined with a lingering spicy heat from ginger. It is zesty and fiery, but the ripe sweetness of the peach balances out this spice level for a refreshing, crisp flavour to end with.

Peach ginger TRIP drink

Lemon Basil

The zesty flavour of lemon has been paired with the aromatic earthiness of basil, to provide a refreshing drink. It has a citrusy aroma, also providing herbaceous scents of basil. The tartness of the lemon is balanced by the sweet and peppery flavour of basil, making it a crisp, light and refreshing flavour.

Lemon basil TRIP drink

Cold Brew Coffee

This is a CBD infused coffee drink, containing only three ingredients: Water, coffee & CBD extract (6mg/100ml) – a total of 15mg CBD per 250ml coffee can. It is d airy-free, gluten-free, vegan and contains no added sugar or sweeteners. It claims to provide a caffeine hit, but due to the inclusion of CBD, will not give the jittery feeling associated with drinking coffee.

TRIP cold coffee

This is a raspberry orange blossom flavoured CBD drink, best served ice cold. It is made from a mix of fruit concentrates as well as the addition of magnesium for relaxation and apple cider vinegar for it’s antimicrobial properties.

TRIP Calm Down

Advantages of TRIP drinks

  • Can help you unwind without the hangover feeling, as it contains no alcohol
  • Good alternative drink choice for reducing alcohol intake
  • Provides a source of botanicals that are said to be calming and relaxing
  • The adaptogens contained in TRIP drinks can help with productivity
  • Very low calorie drink, with under 21 calories per can and 0g sugar
  • There are a range of flavours, including a combined CBD and caffeine drink to avoid the unpleasant side effects that some people can suffer with when drinking coffee

Disadvantages of TRIP drinks

  • May not provide the sought after effect. For some, the drinks do not provide a sense of relaxation or calmness.
  • Effects may be from a placebo effect, and can be short lasting
  • Taste may not be to everyone’s preference
  • Sweeteners are used, which for some can irritate the gut

Possible TRIP drink side effects

Although CBD is generally well tolerated, it can be a case of trial and error to find out what dose suits you as an individual the best. Side effects often come from too high of a dose for your body. Some of the common side effects can include:

  • Mood changes
  • Changes in appetite
  • Dizziness and drowsiness
  • Gastrointestinal issues

If you believe you are experiencing any of these side effects, we recommend stopping consuming of TRIP and any other CBD containing products. The FDA recommends not exceeding a dose of more than 70mg CBD per day.

TRIP drink price

The price of TRIP drinks can vary, depending on where they are purchased, and if you are buying a bundle of drinks at once.

For example, an individual can is priced around £2.10 each, or a bundle of 4 for £6.50. If you buy a bundle of 12 from the TRIP website, this would be £24. However, if you want to buy a 24 or 48 pack, they offer a subscribe and save offer, where you can choose a regular delivery of TRIP drinks, giving you a 42% discount. For example, a regular 24 pack case is £48, but if you subscribe and save, this will cost just £31.

When is it best time to consume a TRIP drink?

According to the website, TRIP can be consumed at any time of the day. Ideally when you want to feel calm, so this can be first thing in the morning to start the day, or could be to unwind in the evening after a stressful day. You can even enjoy a TRIP drink during the afternoon, to possibly help with better mood and overall productivity.

Are TRIP drinks safe?

Yes, according to the World Health Organisation, there is no evidence that pure CBD intake leads to public health related problems. CBD itself is unlikely to impair daily functioning, and is safe. However, higher than tolerated quantities can lead to unpleasant side effects for some, as described above.

CBD itself can effectively treat certain types of childhood epilepsy syndromes, especially when not responding to traditional antiseizure medications. In some studies, CBD was able to reduce and even stop seizures altogether. Consumption of high levels of CBD can increase blood thinning, so it is important to be aware of consuming CBD if you are taking any blood thinner medication, as well as an anti-epileptic or immunosuppressant medication. Because CBD products are sold as supplements and not medications, it is not regulated under the FDA, as medications are.

Precautions of drinking TRIP beverages

There are some cases where it would not be advisable to consume CBD products such as TRIP drinks. For example:

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Although CBD has not been fully researched in pregnant women, it is known that CBD does pass through the placenta, and this may have unknown risks to the developing foetus.
  • If you have liver disease. As CBD can increase certain liver enzymes, which can lead to liver inflammation.
  • Do not take with alcohol. Consuming CBD products alongside alcohol can cause excessive drowsiness.

Is TRIP drink safe for children?

No, TRIP is not safe for children, as the effect of TRIP have not been extensively researched with children, and therefore it is not advised as a drink to give to children. CBD itself has not been tested extensively for it’s safety and effectiveness, especially in children, so there is no definitive answer if CBD is safe for children.

Although there is some research around how CBD may help with seizure control, which may be then applied to children with seizures, it is not something we would recommend, unless closely monitored by a registered health professional.

Is TRIP drink legal in the UK?

CBD is a legal substance in the UK, as long as the THC concentration does not exceed 0.2%. TRIP does not contain this level of THC, and is therefore safe and legal. It is sold in many supermarkets and retailers across the UK!

Can you drive after a TRIP drink?

Yes – CBD is not a controlled substance and therefore drinking TRIP and then driving is legal. CBD is a non-psychotropic compound, meaning it does not get the user high, and is therefore not illegal. It is important that you use a trusted source of CBD, as some products may contain THC.

Online TRIP drink reviews

Some reviews have commented how the TRIP drinks are great alternatives to alcohol to help them relax and unwind, especially after a long day.

TRIP Positive Review

The subscription service seems to be popular as a better value for money offering for those who frequently buy direct from the TRIP website.

Positive TRIP Review

However, several reviews mention they felt no difference when consuming the TRIP drinks, even after several tries. Some have doubted that the amount and quality of CBD in one drink is not enough, and there is no evidence on the website on how the CBD content is verified through third party testing. Many reviews comment that the cost cannot justify the product, especially if nothing was felt for them after consuming the drinks.

Negative TRIP review

Are TRIP drinks worth it?

The TRIP drinks can be a great way to help reduce alcohol intake, or have another alterative soft drink, which is low in sugar and easily found in most supermarkets. It can be a refreshing change to just plain water, and for some, it may provide a sense of calmness, and help to improve levels of anxiety. However, for many, the desired outcomes may not be felt, and this may be due to the small doses of CBD found in the TRIP drinks.

Therefore, it is something you can give a try if you would like support with any anxiety or stress management, though we would instead recommend regular support from a private dietitian  to ensure you are seeing positive outcomes with better managing any health concerns, in relation to stress and anxiety. This way, we can ensure you are changing your lifestyle for the better, without the risk of developing any side effects of consuming higher levels of CBD overall.

'I tried TRIP's new Mindful Blend range and it's the ultimate alcohol-free way to unwind'

A blend of magnesium, lion’s mane, ashwagandha and L-theanine make it the perfect bedtime beverage

a woman holding a couple of glasses of liquid

There's nothing quite like the feeling of finishing a long day and cracking open a can of something refreshing that will help you relax and get out of work mode. And while that something for me has historically been a strong G&T, the older I get the more even a glass or two is negatively impacting my sleep quality and anxiety levels .

This means that while I feel more relaxed initially, I end up paying the price the next day.

TRIP Drinks saw a gap in the market for a beverage specifically formulated to help people unwind and came to our rescue with their brand new Mindful Blend range, and I was lucky enough to try it out before it launched.

TRIP Mixed Pack Mindful Blend

Mixed Pack Mindful Blend

I'd tried TRIP before, and have picked up a couple of cans of their CBD-infused drinks when I want to drink something tasty but don't feel like alcohol or something overly sugary. They always hit the spot for me, and I particularly enjoy the refreshing lemon and basil flavour.

As I was already a fan of the brand, I was excited to see they'd launched a new range focused specifically on helping people with stress and sleep - two things I could always use a little extra help with.

Olivia Ferdi, co-founder of TRIP says, ‘our Mindful Blend drinks range is a delicious new way to unwind, carefully crafted for calm, as we continue our mission to destigmatize conversations around mental wellbeing and help millions prioritise their health’.

The range is currently available in four flavours: cucumber mint and blood orange , which were the flavours most asked for by the TRIP community online. Both have a refreshingly crisp taste, and are perfect for warm spring and summer evenings as a nightcap spent sitting in the sunshine.

I've been having mine over ice in a cocktail glass with a sprig of rosemary so it feels like a luxe experience, and either sip on it while I chat with my housemates or do a bit of night-time journalling.

I'm someone who can tend to struggle to switch off after a busy day, so taking some time to myself while drinking something specifically formulated to help me unwind has definitely help me drift off earlier than I had been before.

The ingredient list of the range features magnesium , lion’s mane , ashwagandha and L-theanine, which are all popular ingredients to have before bed time to help people get into a more relaxed state, which promotes, deeper, higher quality sleep.

If this sounds like something you're keen to try, you're in luck. To celebrate the launch, TRIP is offering shoppers 20% off when they use the code ‘MINDFUL' at checkout.

I tried TRIP's CBD botanical drinks and you can get 20% off

With a growing focus on wellness and relaxation, I tried TRIP's CBD products to see if they could help me unwind

TRIP

Taking the time out of your day to actually relax and unwind is something that a lot of us don't quite remember is important, or at least I know it can slip my mind from time to time. So when the opportunity arose to try TRIP , one of the UK’s leading wellness brands, I felt like it was time.

The brand uses CBD which has grown in popularity, with 40% of Brits (in a FSA survey ) choosing to use the natural remedy for stress. I've already tried some CBD products to see if they would help with cramps , so after a particularly stressful month I put TRIP to the test.

READ MORE: I tried Hey Bud's hemp oil and was reminded of Euphoria's Cassie

I'd briefly tried TRIP in the form of a mocktail at The Ivy when I visited Bath on a wellness retreat , but trying it as its own specific drink was quite different. I also discovered that the brand is more than just drinks , with them also having CBD oils .

One thing that really stands out to me with the drinks is that they're not overly sweet, they come in cans with some fruity botanical flavours but tend to pair it with herbs that makes it taste a little bit more like a mocktail and reminds me of gin.

TRIP

The three flavours are Peach & Ginger, Elderflower & Mint and Lemon & Basil . For me I found the flavours to be a little too heavy on the ginger and basil, with the Elderflower & Mint being my favourite by far.

I think that these would work perfectly as a mixer and for fans of ginger beer the Peach & Ginger should go down a treat. I didn't notice a huge shift to my mood but I did feel quite relaxed the evening that I tried these drinks, which I take to be a good sign.

For those who want a more noticeable fix, perhaps one of the two TRIP CBD oils would be a better option. Coming in two flavours, Wild Mint & Chamomile and Orange Blossom & Chamomile , it's difficult to miss.

When I opened the Wild Mint & Chamomile I was instantly hit with the minty smell and found that I already felt a bit more relaxed.

The Orange Blossom was slightly more mild in flavour, but still quite bold. I think if you're looking to unwind and relax, the oils are the better option.

TRIP CBD Oils

You place a few drops under your tongue for a minute before swallowing and I found that I really did feel more relaxed afterwards.

It's advised to consult a medical professional before consumption if you have pre-existing medical conditions or take prescription medication. TRIP recommends you do not exceed more than 70MG per day (one full dropper of oil contains approximately 66MG of CBD).

Shoppers can use code MYLONDON to take advantage of 20% off from TRIP when they shop with the brand. Shipping is free within the UK.

TRIP’s drinks and oils are THC-Free and Third Party Lab tested to ensure the highest quality and purity.

Do Trip drinks live up to their name? Our editor reviews their flavour and effectiveness

Heard about Trip CBD drinks and wonder what they’re like? We put three flavours to the test. Check out our firsthand thoughts here.

We Tested It

Senior editor, Megan, pictured before testing three of the Trip drink flavours, along with product images of each can

Always on the hunt for alternatives to an alcoholic drink, we’d seen Trip drinks appear in our local supermarkets and were intrigued by their offering.

The self-proclaimed ‘favourite CBD drink of the UK’, Trip drinks are lightly sparkling and claim to help calm your nervous system via the inclusion of natural adaptogens (including cannabinoids).

But do Trip drinks work? And do they taste good?

3 Trip drinks we recommend

Why review Trip drinks in the first place?

Our interest in Trip, a UK brand launched in 2019 that specialises in CBD products, was first piqued when we saw it advertised on social media about two years ago.

Since then, Trip’s CBD-infused drinks have risen in popularity and are now stocked in major supermarkets and high street retailers, like Waitrose and Holland & Barrett.

Full range of Trip's CBD products including CBD oil with orange blossom and sparkling water cans

Though CBD products are still somewhat contentious and tend to divide shoppers, by being stocked in such trusted and prevalent stores, our interest only spiked further.

And we couldn’t help but wonder whether Trip’s soft drinks actually had any impact on their consumers.

Because to be frank, the idea of adding a little extra (and all-natural) calm to our day-to-day was appealing.

So, here we are — putting three of the brand’s best-selling flavours to the test and discerning whether they have any calming effects.

The Trip drink flavours we tested

Every drink created by Trip is alcohol-free, gluten-free, vegan, low in calories and contains 15mg of CBD.

The drinks have a sparkling water base, are infused with natural adaptogens and boast fresh flavours designed to relax and promote stress-free living.

Here’s a breakdown of the flavours we sipped on.

Overall thoughts on flavour

In general, our editor was impressed with the flavours of the three Trip drinks.

Not usually one for flavoured seltzer water, she was sceptical going into the test and, admittedly, was more interested in the effects of the CBD.

View this post on Instagram

The result was unexpected: she enjoyed the flavours.

The Lime and Basil was fresh and a little sharp on the tongue, leaving a refreshing and somewhat invigorating sensation.

The Elderflower was her favourite. More rounded and soft on the palate, it also came across a bit sweeter — whilst still maintaining a desirable freshness.

And the Peach and Ginger was delicious, too. The ginger was particularly strong and made for a nice change from the artificial flavours or sweeteners you so often experience in soft drinks.

All in all, the taste test was a success.

Thoughts on the CBD effects

Maybe our hopes were a little high in terms of the possible side effects of Trip drinks.

Praised for their stress-relieving properties — and due to the nature of CBD — we had hoped that by the end of our drink, we would feel a palpable difference.

This was not the case.

Though we enjoyed the cans, and think they make a nice (and healthier) alternative to other soft drinks or alcoholic options, we didn’t experience any notable change in our anxiety or stress levels.

So, if you’re planning to sip on these drinks for a dramatic reduction in stress levels, we think you may be disappointed. Perhaps, if this is your goal, it’s actually Trip CBD oil , which is much more concentrated, that you should turn to (though we have yet to try it ourselves).

Are Trip drinks any good?

Determining whether Trip drinks are good or not is a personal decision. After all, everyone’s flavour preferences will differ, as will their susceptibility to CBD and other adaptogens.

Our editor didn’t find Trip drinks helped with her anxiety or stress levels. Nor did they foster easier sleep, as some users claim. That said, she did find them an enjoyable drink and would recommend them on that basis.

How does Trip drink make you feel?

Our editor didn’t experience any significant change to her mood or stress levels — even after consuming two cans in fairly quick succession during her test. That said, this may not be your experience — so they could be worth a try.

So, does Trip really work and do we recommend the drinks?

Having reviewed the Trip CBD drinks and tasted three of its bestsellers, we would recommend these beverages to anyone trying not to drink alcohol — or looking for a refreshing soft drink alternative.

If it’s stress reduction you’re searching for though, we aren’t sure Trip drinks have the desired side effects (though it’s possible Trip CBD oil may be more effective).

The drinks are tasty and refreshing, have no added sugar, are gluten-free, vegan and look cute, but we didn’t experience any notable change in our anxiety levels or stress.

Trip CBD drinks – Our full review of these popular CBD drinks

Trip CBD drinks

Published by Finn Hayden

It's official - CBD has gone mainstream. This cannabinoid, which is derived from the cannabis plant, was for a long time misunderstood and unfairly regarded as a bit of a fad. But as the industry has become more regulated we've seen CBD brands have to step up their game and create products which are actually good, meaning more people are

A brand that has helped to make CBD more accepted by the mainstream is Trip. You can now walk into supermarkets like Sainsbury's and Waitrose and see cans of Trip CBD on the shelves. You can even get a can of this CBD drink as part of a meal deal!

It's the CBD drinks from Trip which have really helped the brand to grow in popularity. We thought it would be interesting to take a close look at the Trip CBD drinks and fully review them, let's get into it:

Quick summary : we really like the taste of all of the Trip CBD drinks, which is why we included them in our guide to the best CBD drinks we've tried. But we still think that 15mg per can isn't quite enough to feel a benefit for most people, and you'll feel more benefit from CBD oil or CBD gummies .

What's in the Trip CBD drinks?

Each can of Trip CBD contains 15mg of CBD, which we'd describe as quite a standard dosage of CBD to consume. The FSA very recently set their recommended daily intake of CBD at 10mg , which would suggest that people shouldn't drink a whole can of Trip CBD in one go. But we think that's ridiculous, and provided you take a few days off every 2 weeks or so, you're fine to consume a can of Trip CBD per day.

Trip CBD drinks ingredients

We've even started to see these QR codes in Holland and Barrett stores (pictured) next to the section where the Trip CBD drinks are kept. When you scan the QR code, it takes you to a page with information about the 10mg CBD recommendation.

Trip CBD QR code holland and barrett

The 15mg dosage of CBD is the same for all flavours of the standard Trip CBD drinks, so even if you're consuming different varieties of the drink, you'll always be getting a consistent dosage of 15mg.

The only real difference between the drinks which is worth noting is the amount of sugar and calories, but even then it's all very similar. The lowest in calories and sugar is Elderflower Mint, which contains 7.6kcal per 100ml and 1.5g of sugar per 100ml, Lemon Basil contains 8kcal and 1.7gof sugar per 100ml, and Peach Ginger contains 8.4kcal and 1.8g of sugar per 100ml. We find this interesting because we really like the sweetness of the Elderflower Mint, even though it's the lowest in sugar.

Trip CBD flavours

There are currently 3 different flavours of Trip CBD drink that you can choose from - Elderflower Mint, Peach Ginger & Lemon Basil. Of the 3, our favourite is definitely Elderflower Mint, which is quite sweet but has a lovely minty aftertaste.

Boost Up, Calm Down, and Cold Brew

There are a couple of other CBD drinks from Trip which aren't as popular as the standard range but are still worth including in this review. 2 of these drinks are called 'Boost Up' and 'Calm Down', and the other is a cold brew coffee. We haven't tried any of these yet but plan to. The Boost Up and Calm Down drinks contain 25mg of CBD instead of 15mg, so they're quite a bit stronger than the standard drinks from the Trip range. The cold brew coffee is still only 15mg of CBD per can.

We mentioned in the introduction that you can get a can of Trip CBD as part of the meal deal at Sainsbury's, which is really good value. But if you buy the cans on their own they're actually quite expensive. A single can of Trip with 15mg of CBD will cost you £2.29 from Holland and Barrett.

Final thoughts

So although we really like the taste of the Trip CBD drinks and we think they're a really convenient way of getting a small amount of CBD into your system, we still think that consuming CBD oils or CBD gummies is a much more efficient and cost-effective way of consuming CBD.

What do you think of Trip CBD drinks? Let us know in the comments!

Trip CBD drinks & oils review (our honest thoughts)

Trip CBD drinks

3 minute read

Updated February 15th, 2024

TRIP is a CBD brand based in the UK. We first heard about TRIP after seeing their CBD drinks stocked in a few supermarkets like Sainsbury's , but after conducting a bit of research we realised that their CBD oils are also very popular.

For this reason we decided to conduct a review of TRIP CBD products. We'll be taking a look at their products and third-party reviews, let's get into it:

Who is TRIP?

There is a nice 'Our Story' section on the TRIP website that provides you with a bit of background about the TRIP team. The brand was founded by couple Dan and Live was back in 2019. Dan suffered a knee injury weeks before the pair were supposed to get married, and he needed something to get him back on his feet and up the aisle without hobbling. He tried CBD and found it to be effective for his recovery. So once the marriage papers had been signed, Dan and Liv wasted no time in starting their own CBD brand.

We love this backstory because it comes from a genuine place and we recommend you check out the 'About Us' page for the full story.

Are the TRIP CBD products (drinks & oils) good?

TRIP is perhaps best known for their CBD drinks, but they do have CBD oils also. Let's start with the CBD drinks:

TRIP has 3 lightly sparkling drinks and a cold-brew coffee that you can choose from. Flavours include elderflower mint (pictured here), peach ginger (pictured at the top) and lemon basil. Each can contains around 15mg of CBD which is a nice dosage, and they're all also low-calorie too (19 calories in a can of the elderflower mint). Unlike many CBD drinks that we see, these are lab-tested and contain absolutely no added sugar, which is impressive.

Likewise, the cold-brew coffee contains 15mg of CBD and is made with Guatemalan specialty grade coffee brewed for 24 hours in East London.

What about the TRIP CBD oils?

If you'd rather check out the CBD oils then TRIP also have a pretty good range - you can choose between 4 different CBD oils with 2 different flavours (Wild Mint or Orange Blossom). Strengths are either 300mg or 1000mg of CBD per bottle. These products are also third-party tested and made in the UK.

Overall we're really impressed with this range and recommend you explore it for yourself.

take a trip drink review

What are the TRIP third-party reviews like?

TRIP collects reviews for their CBD products directly on their product pages which is really convenient. As you can see from the screenshot we've included, their products are highly rated - including the Wild Mint CBD oil which has a near-perfect score from over 60 reviews. We recommend you explore the product pages for yourself so check those out.

TRIP CBD oil reviews

In Conclusion

The TRIP brand is perhaps best known for their range of CBD drinks, but they also have some awesome CBD oils. Definitely check these products out!

This review was published by the CBD Bible team. We publish hundreds of reviews every month, feel free to explore our website for more reviews and CBD guides.

Disgusting flavour made me nauseous

Having been a Trip customer for some time I ordered two creates of their new Raspberry and Orange Blossom drink. I noted on the ingredients that it included Apple Cider Vinegar, but I assumed there would just be a hint of it as it was in the ingredients and not the name of the flavour. Sadly, when I received the two crates and opened the first can I was immediately hit with an overwhelmingly vinegar smell. The taste was the same. There was almost no other flavour than vinegar. So, when I contacted Trip to ask if I could return one of the crates for a replacement, they refused “on the grounds of health and safety”. No offers of a refund either.

The communication about my order being…

The communication about my order being shipped as two parcels 5 days apart was very confusing. I did email and got communication after I had received my first part but was still concerned until the second part arrived yesterday. I love the product and have not had this issue before.

Date of experience : August 31, 2023

Hi Tina, I'm really sorry about the confusion caused by this! Your items were sent separately due to the parcel size, thank you for your patience!

Awful service.

Placed an order thinking I would receive 20% discount but when order went through I was charged full price so I emailed instantly to ask for a refund as website states you have half an hour to request refund also asked for order not to be dispatched. The next day I finally received an email saying the half an hour is discretionary and my drinks had already been dispatched!!!! Awful service, just interested in the money not their customers.

Date of experience : October 29, 2023

I wanted to give this 5 stars.

Despite the usual excellent customer service, speedy delivery and of course amazing quality for the price, I unfortunately can not give this review 5 stars as I'm not completely satisfied with my purchase. I brought the 2 newest flavours boost up and calm down, the blood orange has replaced the elderflower mint as my new favorite but I was dissappointed with the raspberry orange blossom, I was expecting a fruity tangy flavour but all I can taste in every can is vinegar. I am upset by this as I was truly looking forward to trying this as this sounds delicious but everytime I've opened a new can I feel like I'm only drinking the apple cider vinegar additive. This hasn't stop me for supporting them as a company as this has been a one off for me, on the brightside I know what not to try moving forward. Still love the brand and boost up is as delicious as I had hoped.

Great but....

Really like the whole thing. The package was lovely. The taste is great. Unfortunately though I haven't noticed any difference. Does it require a certain amount of time to see this?

Date of experience : August 22, 2023

Thank you for the feedback Tina! We're very sorry to hear you haven't felt the effects of CBD. It is important to note, dosing is really personal - similar to how caffeine or alcohol can affect everyone differently. Feel free to start with a lower regular dose (15-30MG per serving) then note how you feel and top up with additional drinks or oils if needed. For context, our CBD drinks contain 15MG per can, our 300MG CBD oils contain 20MG per dropper, and our 1000MG oils contain 66MG per dropper.

Love a can of Trip

Love a can of Trip, peach and ginger is my favourite, help me unwind and stop reaching for the wine!

Raspberry and Orange Blossom disappointment

I love TRIP drinks, Elderflower and Nint being my favourite. Unfortunately when I placed a recent order for the latest flavour, Raspberry and Orange Blossom, either the info wasn't on site at the time of ordering, or I simply didn't see it, but the taste is completely masked by Apple Cider Vinegar.

Love, love, love TRIP. Albeit my son ordered some before me and is still awaiting his order. Hopefully one delay out of about 10 orders is not bad!

Glad to hear you're loving TRIP! So sorry to hear about this delay, don't worry everythings is on it's way!

Disappointing customer service

After buying and enjoying the trip products and buying numerous times I was disappointed with my latest experience. Having an order I wished to cancel I followed the cancellation policy (if emailed within 30 minutes of placing the order). However this morning the reply has stated that as no one is there after 21:00 (I had emailed at 21:11, 5 or so minutes after placing my order) which therefore meant I am not able to cancel the order. Have to say I am disappointed with the support given and will definitely make me think again if wanting to buy and have their product again due to the service given.

Great product but terrible courier

Great product, great drinks, the lemon basil flavour is the best but only seems available online however they use DPD couriers which absolutely suck if you're not home at 8am

There are plenty of feline stereotypes. For example, cats have a reputation for being curious and aloof, which is more or less accurate. Another common stereotype is that kittens love to drink milk, specifically cow’s milk.

So, can kittens drink milk? While they may enjoy cow’s milk, many cat owners operate under the misconception that cow’s milk is good for their pets. Cow’s milk is not appropriate for kittens, and feeding it to your kitten can result in serious health issues. In this article, we will discuss why kittens shouldn’t drink cow’s milk and the possible side effects of drinking it, so keep reading to learn more.

Why Can’t Kittens Drink Cow’s Milk?

Cow’s milk is not healthy for kittens or adult cats. Most felines do not have the enzymes necessary to break down the sugar lactose, which is abundant in cow’s milk. Drinking cow’s milk may cause your cat to suffer digestive issues.

Kittens do drink milk, but not cow’s milk. Kittens are born ready to digest their mother’s milk, so milk from a cat is perfectly safe for kittens. However, around 8 weeks of age, most kittens start to lose their ability to digest even cat’s milk and begin consuming food they will eat as adults.

Dangers of Feeding Cow Milk to Kittens

As mentioned before, feeding cow’s milk to your kitten or adult cat can lead to gastrointestinal problems due to their inability to digest lactose. Their lack of necessary enzymes to break down cow’s milk can lead to diarrhea, vomiting, and gas shortly after consumption.

In severe cases, it can lead to rapid dehydration. Dehydration is a medical emergency that can impede your kitten’s ability to perform normal bodily functions. If you suspect your kitten is dehydrated, immediately take them to your vet or local emergency clinic.

If an adult cat consumes cow’s milk, they may experience similar abdominal discomfort. The real danger is the long-term effects of prolonged feeding since cow’s milk is high in fat that may contribute to obesity.

Can Kittens Drink Milk Alternatives?

Now that you know cow’s milk is entirely off the table, you may wonder what milk can kittens drink safely? For example, can kittens drink goat’s milk? What about soy milk, almond milk, and other forms of milk?

Much like with cow’s milk, feeding any form of milk to your cat is unnecessary. The cow milk alternatives are often high in fat, which can lead to weight gain. They also contain oils, sugars, or thickeners that cause severe gastrointestinal distress.

Many types of milk also have high levels of additives and preservatives. Furthermore, they are not nutritionally balanced for feline consumption. The only milk that your kitten should drink is their mother’s milk when age appropriate.

Can Kittens Drink Milk Formulas?

Cow’s milk and other forms of milk are out of the question. But what about milk formulas? Milk formulas can be an excellent option for growing kittens as long as they are developed with feline consumption in mind.

Ideally, kittens will be nursed by their mother and will have no need for a milk formula. However, orphaned or abandoned kittens will need nutrition in the form of milk. Some excellent formulas to try out include PetAg KMR Powder Milk Supplement and Hartz Powdered Milk Replacer Formula .

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

It can be difficult to fully understand how cow’s milk or other types of milk truly impact cats, especially in a culture that perpetuates the idea that cats can and should drink milk. To learn more about the relationship between milk and cats, take a look at the frequently asked questions below.

Are All Cats Lactose Intolerant?

Many cats are lactose intolerant ; however, not all of them are. Some can process lactose better than others, allowing them to digest cow’s milk without experiencing gastrointestinal problems. If your cat has ingested cow’s milk, monitor them for the next 12 hours.

They are likely lactose intolerant if they display signs such as diarrhea, vomiting, flatulence, or abdominal discomfort. If they do not show any signs, it is possible that they are not.

Regardless of your cat’s lactose intolerance (or lack thereof), cow’s milk is still not a healthy choice. It is high in fat, and if consumed frequently, it can lead to obesity. Therefore, keeping cow’s milk off the menu is the best choice for your cat.

Should You Seek Veterinary Care if Your Kitten Drinks Cow’s Milk?

Accidents happen; sometimes, your curious kitten gets their nose into something they shouldn’t have. If your kitten has lapped up cow’s milk, your response will depend on how much they ingested and how they are responding.

If they only drank a small amount and appear to be experiencing mild gastrointestinal issues, continue to monitor them. Their digestive issues will likely resolve within 24 hours.

However, veterinary care is necessary if your kitten consumes large amounts of milk and has been sick for longer than 24 hours. This is also true if your kitten cannot stay hydrated or appears to be weak.

What Can You Give Your Cat to Drink?

If cats can’t drink cow’s milk, what can you give them to drink? The only liquid that your cat should drink is water. After your kitten weans off their mother’s milk , there aren’t many reasons for you to provide them with drinks other than water.

If your cat doesn’t drink from their dish enough, you can try using a different bowl, clean and refresh the water frequently, or provide water from a fountain .

Despite the stereotypes, cow’s milk is unsuitable for kittens or cats. Cow’s milk can present many dangers to your kitten’s health, such as digestive distress and dehydration. Now that you know the risks of feeding cow’s milk to your kitten, you can avoid falling victim to the common misconception that cats need to drink milk.

This Adults-only South Pacific Resort Has a Nightly Bat Flight, a Secret Beach Hike, and Only 11 Villas

Samoa’s boutique and luxury Seabreeze Resort blends pampering with South Pacific culture and seaside adventures. Here’s what it’s like inside.

Stephanie Vermillion is a travel journalist and photographer covering culture and adventure for Travel + Leisure Outside, and more.

Food and Drink

Activities and experiences, accessibility and sustainability, how to get the most value out of your stay.

Stephanie Vermillion/Travel + Leisure

“Hurry, let’s get to dinner,” I called to my husband, Frank, who’d yet to leave our plunge pool despite the dwindling daylight. I’m rarely one to push for an early bird special but at the Seabreeze Resort in Samoa, I made sunset seating mandatory. My motive: the nightly migration of megabats, best viewed from the resort’s al fresco dining room.

Like clockwork, each evening, up to hundreds of these fruit-eating flying foxes, which can reach up to five feet in wingspan, leave the mainland palms for their tiny offshore island habitats, which conveniently dot the coast just beyond the resort. As I learned from my string of bat flight nights, the furthest-front table at the Waterfront Restaurant & Bar is the best seat in the house — hence my daily race to snag it.

While the bat flight became a highlight during my March 2024 stay at Seabreeze Resort, it wasn’t even on my radar when I’d first booked our stay. My husband and I visited for a tropical island getaway to break up our rigorous New Zealand mountain itinerary . We sought a place with colorful sea life, rich culture, and minimal crowds.

Stephanie Vermillion/Travel + Leisure

The South Pacific island nation Samoa (not to be confused with the separate American Samoa), an archipelago with two main inhabited islands, delivered on all accounts. Even better: The nation’s predominant tourist island, Upolu, is just a four-hour flight from Auckland .

Of Upolu’s myriad accommodation options, from thatch-roof seaside huts known as fales to higher-end hotels, we picked boutique and adults-only Seabreeze Resort for its intimacy, scenic digs, and onsite attractions. Its owners, Wendy and Chris Booth, who grew up in England and Australia (respectively), fell in love with the country during their many visits. They turned this stretch of coastline — aptly named Paradise Cove — into a 12-villa oasis, where all rooms overlook an Edenic masterpiece of palms, tiny islands, and the lapping sea.

We’d snagged the Lagoon View suite, a hill-perched villa with an ocean-view balcony and porch, and our favorite hang, the plunge pool. Those palm-shaded soaks were the perfect respite after each day of adventure in the sticky Samoan heat — but this day’s dip ended up a touch delayed due to intel we’d gathered from the local poolside barkeeper, Manu, that afternoon.

We were munching on poke, nearing a lull in our rugby discussion, when Manu asked, “Have you been to Vavau?”

Frank looked to me, the trip planner, for confirmation. We’d crossed off numerous Upolu highlights, but this tip was new to me.

“Wait, what’s Vavau ?”

Vavau, it turned out, was a beach we could hike to straight from the resort. It’s his favorite beach on the island, yet few tourists know it exists unless they stay at Seabreeze.

He pointed us in the trail’s direction. Frank and I decided to make an afternoon of it. We’d already spent the morning snorkeling atop purply pink starfish in the resort’s private cove; why not add a “secret” beach to round out the day?

It was a toasty 20-minute jaunt from the property to Vavau, but the beauty that awaited — the kind of paradise that had us recounting "The Beach" scenes while cooling off in a secluded teal lagoon — was worth every bead of sweat.

The temperature hadn’t dropped by the time we made the return hike, hence the extra-long plunge-pool soak. Yet somehow, we cobbled together outfits and arrived in time for our usual spot before sunset. Like every one before, this dinner-with-a-show left me slack-jawed and determined to race back to the front table the next night.

Seabreeze Resort

  • The resort lets the South Pacific nature do the talking with subdued earth hues, thatch roofs, and decorative touches of Samoan culture, such as wood carvings.
  • Each room overlooks the ocean from a private patio, spacious deck, or rejuvenating plunge pool.
  • Every Friday, guests enjoy a free cultural afternoon, known in Samoa as fiafia, with song and dance, basket weaving, and the ancient ava ceremony, during which attendees share juice from the dried kava plant.
  • The open-air Waterfront Restaurant & Bar serves fresh breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinks made from local ingredients, while the Poolside Bar offers lunch cuisine and cocktails.
  • The resort is a 90-minute drive from Faleolo International Airport but close to many southeastern highlights, including the famed To Sua Ocean Trench.

While room amenities vary, one guarantee for every stay is an ocean view. The horseshoe-shaped resort congregates around its private lagoon; each room, plus the balconies and plunge pools, overlooks this tranquil shoreline. Other property-wide amenities include air conditioning, in-room safes, coffee makers, spacious bathrooms, king beds, fridges, smart TVs, bathrobes, and slippers.

The Ocean View Villas (from $345 per night) are the most affordable options, lying behind the main infinity pool with thatch-roof decks and lounging hammocks. The more secluded Beachfront Villas (from $480 per night) are a step up, perched directly above the sand, with 180-degree-view sundecks. Next up is the Lagoon View Spa Pool View (from $550 per night). This spacious stay includes a private balcony just steps from the bed and a patio area with a plunge pool, lounge furniture, and an outdoor shower. The crème de la crème of Seabreeze Resort stays, the Honeymoon Point Villa ($607 per night), sits atop the resort’s furthest cliff, with a private ocean-view plunge pool,  furnished deck, and gated courtyard.

Expect a blend of coastal fare with Western staples at the Seabreeze Resort’s Waterfront Restaurant & Bar. It’s the central dining hub — and a scenic one — with open walls for floor-to-ceiling lagoon vistas and a welcome breeze during toasty mornings and afternoons.

The menu offers locally caught fish, steak, pasta, and burgers; as a pescatarian, I alternated between the chargrilled fish of the day and the chef’s secret Indian curry recipe — an unexpected and spicy treat. On Fridays, traditional Samoan bites follow the fiafia night, including palusami, a cooked blend of taro leaves, coconut milk, and onions.

Come Saturday and Sunday for wood-fired pizza topped with inventive Samoan twists like tiger prawns and fresh local chili. Breakfast is simple: fresh juices, honey-drizzled yogurt and muesli, and eggs. The resort bars, located at the pool and main restaurant, serve wines from Australia and New Zealand, imported beers, and a host of cocktails, including the Seabreeze’s signature Happy Coconuts — a secret recipe that doesn’t just taste like a coconut, it’s served in one.

Travelers can enjoy a vacation’s worth of adventures without leaving Seabreeze Resort’s 15-mile radius. It’s within 30 minutes driving of highlights like Lalomanu Beach, where a collection of pastel thatch-roof fales, rentable for the day on the powdery south Upolu shores, provide a basecamp for beachcombing and snorkeling along this world-renowned strip of sand. To Sua Ocean Trench, an enormous sinkhole turned cerulean swimming hole reached via rung-ladder, is less than two miles from the resort. The clifftop coastal walk, a 20-minute stroll above one of Samoa’s most churning shorelines, is just 20 minutes beyond that.

The Seabreeze Resort may be within arm’s reach of numerous prime attractions, but you can enjoy many Samoan adventures onsite. The resort’s private lagoon is packed with colorful fish and purply pink starfish — best viewed via snorkel or glass-bottom kayak; both are rentable from the poolside bar. Additionally, the trail to Vavau Beach lets you hit two sandy shores in one day, all without a car.

That said, we did rent a car for itinerary flexibility. The resort helps guests without cars coordinate sightseeing tours, transit, and ocean outings like snorkeling, fishing, and scuba diving. (Most attractions in Samoa are located on private land and require an admittance fee collected by the landowner. Bring local cash — Samoan tala — with you.)

Samoa is a religious country, so the island’s tourist attractions largely shut down on Sundays. Knowing this, my husband and I booked a couples massage at the Seabreeze Resort’s Spa for the Sunday of our stay. It was the kind of relaxation you pray will never end. With open windows, we could hear the crashing waves as the masseuses kneaded out our tangles of knots. The spa incorporates Samoan herbs into its massage oils and local plant ingredients for facials.

The resort sources its food from the local communities and supports several projects in the local village, including celebrations for the annual children’s celebration of the White Sunday holiday. The resort has an almost entirely Samoan team, with 32 local employees from housekeeping to accounting; many have stayed at the property for over a decade. It earned a silver sustainability certification from the sustainable lodging booking platform ETIC Hotels . It is not ADA-compliant or wheelchair accessible.

Seabreeze Resort is roughly a 90-minute drive from Faleolo International Airport, the main transit hub. We rented a car from the airport; driving here is easy, particularly as most attractions are within an hour, but remember that Samoans drive on the left side of the road.

If you don’t rent a car, Seabreeze Resort offers airport pickups — including free pickups and drop-offs for those staying for a minimum of five nights. The property, situated on a paradisiacal private cove on the far southeast corner of Upolu island, is within 30 minutes of major attractions and an hour and 15 minutes from the capital city of Apia.

Several perks come with booking directly, like return airport transfers, complimentary snorkel and kayak equipment use, breakfast, a special mini bar treat, and a food platter for arrivals after 9 p.m. and before 7 a.m. If you’re planning a spa day, pre-book your treatment for an additional discount. Other special plus-ups, such as cake or Champagne, can be arranged for birthdays, anniversaries, and honeymoons.

Twickets has announced it is lowering its charges after some Oasis fans had to pay more than £100 in extra fees to buy official resale tickets.

The site is where the band themselves is directing people to buy second-hand tickets for face value - having warned people against unofficial third party sellers like StubHub and Viagogo.

One person branded the extra fees "ridiculous" (see more in 10.10 post), after many people had already been left disappointed at the weekend when Ticketmaster's dynamic pricing pushed tickets up by three times the original advertised fee.

Twickets said earlier that it typically charged a fee of 10-15% of the face value of the tickets.

But it has since said it will lower the charge due to "exceptional demand" from Oasis fans - taking ownership of an issue in a way fans will hope others follow.

Richard Davies, Twickets founder, told the Money blog: "Due to the exceptional demand for the Oasis tour in 2025, Twickets have taken the decision to lower our booking fee to 10% and a 1% transactional fee (to cover bank charges) for all buyers of their tickets on our platform. In addition we have introduced a fee cap of £25 per ticket for these shows. Sellers of tickets already sell free of any Twickets charge.

"This ensures that Twickets remains hugely competitive against the secondary market, including sites such as Viagogo, Gigsberg and StubHub.

"Not only do these platforms inflate ticket prices way beyond their original face value but they also charge excessive booking fees, usually in the region of 30-40%. Twickets by comparison charges an average fee of around 12.5%"

The fee cap, which the Money blog understands is being implemented today, will apply to anyone who has already bought resale tickets through the site.

Mr Davies said Twickets was a "fan first" resale site and a "safe and affordable place" for people to trade unwanted tickets.

"The face value of a ticket is the total amount it was first purchased for, including any booking fee. Twickets does not set the face value price, that is determined by the event and the original ticketing company. The price listed on our platform is set by the seller, however no one is permitted to sell above the face-value on Twickets, and every ticket is checked before listing that it complies with this policy," he said.

Meanwhile, hundreds of people have complained to the regulator about how Oasis tickets were advertised ahead of going on sale.

The Advertising Standards Authority said it had received 450 complaints about Ticketmaster adverts for the gigs.

Some  expressed their anger on social media , as tickets worth £148 were being sold for £355 on the site within hours of release, due to the "dynamic pricing" systems.

A spokesperson from ASA said the complainants argue that the adverts made "misleading claims about availability and pricing".

They added: "We're carefully assessing these complaints and, as such, can't comment any further at this time.

"To emphasise, we are not currently investigating these ads."

Ticketmaster said it does not set prices and its website says this is down to the "event organiser" who "has priced these tickets according to their market value".

Despite traditionally being an affordable staple of British cuisine, the average price for a portion of fish and chips has risen by more than 50% in the past five years to nearly £10, according to the Office for National Statistics.

Sonny and Shane "the codfather" Lee told Sky News of the challenges that owning J-Henry's Fish and Chip Shop brings and why prices have skyrocketed.

"Potatoes, fish, utilities, cooking oil - so many things [are going up]," he said.

Shane also said that he is used to one thing at a time increasing in price, but the outlook today sees multiple costs going up all at once.

"Potatoes [were] priced right up to about £25 a bag - the previous year it was about £10 a bag," Sonny said, noting a bad harvest last year.

He said the business had tried hake as a cheaper fish option, but that consumers continued to prefer the more traditional, but expensive, cod and haddock.

"It's hard and we can we can absorb the cost to a certain extent, but some of it has to be passed on," Shane added.

After a long Saturday for millions of Oasis fans in online queues, the culture secretary says surge pricing - which pushed the price of some tickets up by three times their original advertised value to nearly £400 - will be part of the government's review of the ticket market.

On today's episode of the Daily podcast, host Niall Paterson speaks to secondary ticketing site Viagogo. While it wasn’t part of dynamic pricing, it has offered resale tickets for thousands of pounds since Saturday.

Matt Drew from the company accepts the industry needs a full review, while Adam Webb, from the campaign group FanFair Alliance, explains the changes it would like to see.

We've covered the fallout of the Oasis sale extensively in the Money blog today - see the culture secretary's comments on the "utterly depressing" inflated pricing in our post at 6.37am, and Twickets, the official Oasis resale site, slammed by angry fans for its "ridiculous" added fees at 10.10am.

The growing backlash culminated in action from Twickets - the company said it would lower its charges after some fans had to pay more than £100 in extra fees for resale tickets (see post at 15.47).

Last week we reported that employers will have to offer flexible working hours - including a four-day week - to all workers under new government plans.

To receive their full pay, employees would still have to work their full hours but compressed into a shorter working week - something some workplaces already do.

Currently, employees can request flexible hours as soon as they start at a company but employers are not legally obliged to agree.

The Labour government now wants to make it so employers have to offer flexible hours from day one, except where it is "not reasonably feasible".

You can read more of the details in this report by our politics team:

But what does the public think about this? We asked our followers on LinkedIn to give their thoughts in an unofficial poll.

It revealed that the overwhelming majority of people support the idea to compress the normal week's hours into fewer days - some 83% of followers said they'd choose this option over a standard five-day week.

But despite the poll showing a clear preference for a compressed week, our followers appeared divided in the comments.

"There's going to be a huge brain-drain as people move away from companies who refuse to adapt with the times and implement a 4 working week. This will be a HUGE carrot for many orgs," said Paul Burrows, principal software solutions manager at Reality Capture.

Louise McCudden, head of external affairs at MSI Reproductive Choices, said she wasn't surprised at the amount of people choosing longer hours over fewer days as "a lot of people" are working extra hours on a regular basis anyway.

But illustrator and administrative professional Leslie McGregor noted the plan wouldn't be possible in "quite a few industries and quite a few roles, especially jobs that are customer centric and require 'round the clock service' and are heavily reliant upon people in trades, maintenance, supply and transport".

"Very wishful thinking," she said.

Paul Williamson had a similar view. He said: "I'd love to know how any customer first service business is going to manage this."

We reported earlier that anyone with O2 Priority will have their free weekly Greggs treats replaced by £1 monthly Greggs treats - see 6.21am post.

But did you know there are loads of other ways to get food from the nation's most popular takeaway for free or at a discount?

Downloading the Greggs app is a good place to start - as the bakery lists freebies, discounts and special offers there regularly.

New users also get rewards just for signing up, so it's worth checking out.

And there's a digital loyalty card which you can add virtual "stamps" to with each purchase to unlock discounts or other freebies.

Vodafone rewards

Seriously begrudged Virgin Media O2 customers may want to consider switching providers.

The Vodafone Rewards app, VeryMe, sometimes gives away free Greggs coffees, sausage rolls, sweet treats and more to customers.

Monzo bank account holders can grab a sausage roll (regular or vegan), regular sized hot drink, doughnut or muffin every week.

Birthday cake

Again, you'll need the Greggs award app for this one - which will allow you to claim one free cupcake, cream cake or doughnut for your birthday each year.

Octopus customers

Octopus Energy customers with smart meters can claim one free drink each week, in-store from Greggs (or Caffè Nero).

The Greggs freebie must be a regular size hot drink.

Make new friends

If you're outgoing (and hungry), it may be worth befriending a Greggs staff member.

The staff discount at Greggs is 50% on own-produced goods and 25% off branded products.

If you aren't already aware, Iceland offers four Greggs sausage rolls in a multi-pack for £3.

That means, if you're happy to bake it yourself, you'll only be paying 74p per sausage roll.

Millions of Britons could receive extra cash to help with the cost of living this winter after the government extended the Household Support Fund.

A £421m pot will be given to local councils in England to distribute, while £79m will go to the devolved administrations.

The fund will now be available until April 2025 having been due to run out this autumn.

Councils decide how to dish out their share of the fund but it's often via cash grants or vouchers.

Many councils also use the cash to work with local charities and community groups to provide residents with key appliances, school uniforms, cookery classes and items to improve energy efficiency in the home.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves said: "The £22bn blackhole inherited from the previous governments means we have to take tough decisions to fix the foundations of our economy.

"But extending the Household Support Fund is the right thing to do - provide targeted support for those who need it most as we head into the winter months."

The government has been criticised for withdrawing universal winter fuel payments for pensioners of up to £300 this winter - with people now needing to be in receipt of certain means-tested benefits to qualify.

People should contact their local council for details on how to apply for the Household Support Fund - they can find their council  here .

Lloyds Bank app appears to have gone down for many, with users unable to see their transactions.

Down Detector, which monitors site outages, has seen more than 600 reports this morning.

It appears to be affecting online banking as well as the app.

There have been some suggestions the apparent issue could be due to an update.

Another disgruntled user said: "Absolutely disgusting!! I have an important payment to make and my banking is down. There was no warning given prior to this? Is it a regular maintenance? Impossible to get hold of someone to find out."

A Lloyds Bank spokesperson told Sky News: "We know some of our customers are having issues viewing their recent transactions and our app may be running slower than usual.

"We're sorry about this and we're working to have everything back to normal soon."

We had anger of unofficial resale prices, then Ticketmaster's dynamic pricing - and now fees on the official resale website are causing consternation among Oasis fans.

The band has encouraged anyone wanting resale tickets to buy them at face value from Ticketmaster or Twickets - after some appeared for £6,000 or more on other sites.

"Tickets appearing on other secondary ticketing sites are either counterfeit or will be cancelled by the promoters," Oasis said.

With that in mind, fans flocked to buy resale tickets from the sites mentioned above - only to find further fees are being added on.

Mainly Oasis, a fan page, shared one image showing a Twickets fee for two tickets as high as £138.74.

"Selling the in demand tickets completely goes against the whole point of their company too… never mind adding a ridiculous fee on top of that," the page shared.

Fan Brad Mains shared a photo showing two tickets priced at £337.50 each (face value of around £150, but increased due to dynamic pricing on Saturday) - supplemented by a £101.24 Twickets fee.

That left him with a grand total of £776.24 to pay for two tickets.

"Actually ridiculous this," he  said on X .

"Ticketmaster inflated price then sold for 'face value' on Twickets with a £100 fee. 2 x £150 face value tickets for £776, [this] should be illegal," he added.

Twickets typically charges between 10-15% of the ticket value as its own fee.

We have approached the company for comment.

Separately, the government is now looking at the practice of dynamic pricing - and we've had a response to that from the Competition and Markets Authority this morning.

It said: "We want fans to get a fair deal when they go to buy tickets on the secondary market and have already taken action against major resale websites to ensure consumer law is being followed properly.

"But we think more protections are needed for consumers here, so it is positive that the government wants to address this. We now look forward to working with them to get the best outcomes for fans and fair-playing businesses."

Consumer protection law does not ban dynamic pricing and it is a widely used practice. However, the law also states that businesses should not mislead consumers about the price they must pay for a product, either by providing false or deceptive information or by leaving out important information or providing it too late.

By James Sillars , business reporter

It's a false start to the end of the summer holidays in the City.

While London is mostly back at work, trading is fairly subdued due to the US Labor (that's labour, as in work) Day holiday.

US markets will not open again until Tuesday.

There's little direction across Europe with the FTSE 100 trading nine points down at 8,365.

Leading the gainers was Rightmove - up 24%. The property search website is the subject of a possible cash and shares takeover offer by Australian rival REA.

The company is a division of Rupert Murdoch's News Corp.

One other point to note is the continuing fluctuation in oil prices.

Brent crude is 0.7% down at the start of the week at $76.

Dragging the cost lower is further evidence of weaker demand in China.

Australia's REA Group is considering a takeover of Rightmove, in a deal which could be worth about £4.36bn.

REA Group said in a statement this morning there are "clear similarities" between the companies, which have "highly aligned cultural values".

Rightmove is the UK's largest online property portal, while REA is Australia's largest property website.

It employs more than 2,800 people and is majority-owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp,.

REA Group said: "REA sees a transformational opportunity to apply its globally leading capabilities and expertise to enhance customer and consumer value across the combined portfolio, and to create a global and diversified digital property company, with number one positions in Australia and the UK.

"There can be no certainty that an offer will be made, nor as to the terms on which any offer may be made."

Rightmove has been approached for comment.

New raspberry takes like vinegar

Recently bought tye new rasberry one, it’s vile. Tastes like pure vinegar. I can’t understand how it’s been released as the other flavours are lovely

Regular customer highly recommends!

I've been a customer for about a year now and I definitely recommend TRIP. Fast and efficient delivery and everything is always well packaged. Great products. Frequent offers on making them more affordable. I love the flavours of the drinks, especially the peach & ginger. I use the drinks and the 1000mg oils daily to help manage fibromyalgia, chronic pain from spinal issues, sleeping problems and anxiety/panic attacks. I introduced my friend to their oils when he started having some anxiety issues, through their referral scheme which gave him money off his first order and once his order was completed, I also received a money off code to use. A couple of months ago, there were supply issues on 1 product (due to their delivery not passing quality control when it arrived, which speaks to their high standards) that affected the shipping of an order I had placed. It did drag on a bit, but customer services communicated well with me, patient, friendly and giving me a number of options to resolve the issue. Eventually I just changed the product causing the issue, so they could ship my order. The change was processed quickly and efficiently at their end.. the only thing I had to do was say what i wanted done to resolve it via email. No hassle my end. My order shipped the next working day. I received a money off code, with no restrictions on it, to use on my next order and a free bottle of oil, to apologise for the delay and the stress it had caused me. So I can vouch for excellent customer service should anything go wrong. However, usually it's smooth sailing with orders. They've just started a subscription service which reduces the prices further. I haven't signed up yet, as I've not long received a bulk order, but I will be.

Just another overpriced product that…

Just another overpriced product that doesn’t work and tastes disgusting. All the hype about cbd oil is just a gimmick. And I’ve tried other brands too. Had no benefits at all it didn’t work just a complete waste of money

found that a drink before bed helps me get a relaxing nights sleep and wake up refreshed

So glad we are helping you to find your calm Anthony!

Placebo pop

I bought one to try it and the taste was OK but there is no chance the cbd in this is quality, if theres any cbd in at all. There's no lab reports and they won't provide you with one when asked to do so. I had no calming affects at all and had an headache an hour later. Stick to cbd company's that have there up to date lab reports on there website.

Charged for Items I didn't order

Retailer added products to my order 2 hours after my order was placed without permission, charging my card additional funds and then refused to accept a return of the items as they are 'perishable', even though items weren't part of my original order - leaving me with the cost DO NOT RECOMMEND

Date of experience : March 18, 2024

The drinks were awesome as per usual

The drinks were awesome as per usual, however, the only thing that stopped a 5 star is that the box was wet on the bottom when I received it and two of the cans had punctured and leaked out so I lost two drinks out of the box - probably not TRIP's fault, more than likely the courier.

These drinks are delicious, I love every flavour! They relax me after a day of work and don’t give me a hangover. The iced coffee is great too with milk and a little sugar. Thanks Trip!

Great flavours, nice chilled drinks!

Really like the flavours of these drinks. Lovely to sip and chill with these drinks instead of having a glass of wine, especially on a work night!

Bad service experience

I woke this morning to my my Trip subscription payment leaving my bank. The payment went out at 5:30am and I emailed at 7:30am asking to cancel, as I hadn't received a reminder as to when the payment was due. At 11:39am I received a response saying the order cannot be cancelled, and they do not accept returns. They also advised me that my reminder email was sent 3 days prior. On checking this, yes (!) they had sent a reminder email, but the subject matter was 'enjoying your trip', so I left this email unopened, given the volume of emails they normally send, I do not read them all. However, had they titled the email 'upcoming subscription', I could have then made the necessary adjustments. Not to mention, the mention of the upcoming subscription is way down in the email.. so it just feels very sneaky, and untrustworthy. If a customer decides to hold off on purchasing for a while, they can easily be won back by great service.. which is not the case here. With regards to the product itself, the CBD drinks are nice. The drops have absolutely no effect.
