ELO — originally named the Electric Light Orchestra — was formed in 1972 by singers/multi-instrumentalists Lynne and Roy Wood and drummer Bev Bevan from the ashes of legendary rockers the Move, with the intention of fusing rock music with classical instruments. Wood left after one album and Lynne assumed leadership of the group — taking on lead singer, songwriter, producer and guitarist roles — which went on to score such massive hits through the ‘70s as “Evil Woman,” “Strange Magic,” “Living Thing,” “Can’t Get It Out of My Head,” “Mr. Blue Sky,” “Telephone Line,” “Don’t Bring Me Down” and more.

Lynne revived the ELO brand in 2001, with himself and longtime keyboardist Richard Tandy as the only remaining early members, for the album “Zoom” (featuring Harrison and Starr) and tour. He did so again in 2014 and has toured extensively and released two albums with the group, 2015’s “Alone in the Universe” and 2019’s “From Out of Nowhere.”

Electric Light Orchestra is a symphonic rock band from Birmingham, UK who had huge success in the 1970s & 80s and have sold over 50 million record worldwide.

In the late 60's, the guitarist and vocalist of The Move Roy Wood had the idea to form a new band that would use violins, cellos, string basses, horns and woodwinds to give their music a classical sound. This may seem like a given nowadays with every contemporary rock band using a variety of instruments to create their sound, yet at the beginning of the 1970s, The Electric Light Orchestra were considered revolutionaries of the genre. They have more combined US & UK top 40 chart hits than any other band in the world.

They enjoyed moderate successes with their first few releases in the early 70's, yet it was their fourth album 'Eldorado' which managed to crack the top 20 of the US Billboard chart and incorporated a live string section and orchestra, it also included their first US top ten hit 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head'. They continued to have mammoth successes stateside when releasing their album 'Face The Music', the band played 68 shows in 76 days yet they were still snubbed in their native UK until their next release, the platinum selling 'A New World Record' and featured the hit singles 'Do Ya' and 'Livin' Thing'.

The band's touring and recording momentum seemed to show no sign of slowing as their next release 'Out Of The Blue' went double platinum and featured another string of singles that charted on both sides of the Atlantic including their now cult classic 'Mr. Blue Sky'. They later collaborated with vocalist Olivia Newton-John on the soundtrack for musical film 'Xanadu' where the title track became a huge hit all over the world. The band eventually disbanded in 1988 after a string of disappointing single releases after they replaced actual strings with synthesisers, they reformed in 2000 but the following album 'Zoom' also failed commercially. Their 2014 reformation was a larger success when performing a benefit gig for Children In Need with Jeff Lynne hinting at a 2015 UK tour.

Live reviews

A must go see tour!! Jeff Lynne looked and sounded amazing!! The artists and musicians he has with him are killing these shows on this tour. They are phenomenal artists keeping a timing that was solid and on point turning left right diagonally and every with way else no turn signal needed on this time travel through space and time. Taking the audience throughan amazing plethora of twenty songs in what only seemed like all of them were played in just five minutes went by when the show was over. " where does the time go"g/d.crushed song after song pounding through each song belting physical and visual stimulations for everyone to absorb and digest to your delight. For Dawes,I can't say I just heard them through the tunnels at the Allstate arena. What sounds I heard wasn't bad and I'm sure they are a great band im sure this tour will open some doors of opportunity for them in the future. As for the arena my first time there and coming from the St Louis area with similar sized venues. Allstate arena was a nice venue to attend a show. Associates helpful and friendly. Security inside and out did a great job of hearding us all in and out safely definitely want to thank them as well. The sound there was killer. I believe it may have been the third song with the cellos had a bit of reverb on the super low parts but the sound crew corrected that quickly for a mind blowing sound. To go as a side dish to the sounds pelting off the stage. The production company working with Jeff Lynne brought a laser backdrop out of this world. It was a third eye cleansing production of lasers lights and backdrop that's left a contrail partner of ELOs voyage through space and time. Finally i want to mention the audience attending. Another good sign of an amazing artist is the way they can get as many different individuals from thoughts lives and ideologies together bringing their audienced to respect love and watch out for one another is a true art. Gives light that we can get along in a time where look down and disengage is the new in. So if youre not sure if youre wanting to go you. Take your closest loved one or go with your crew this tour can't be missed. You Want Be Lucky To See Him Do This Again Light Years Later. Get on this voyage now experience what Jeff Lynne has done for himself and fans from all over the world and beyond whole career. Long live Rock!!

Musically, it was a great gig and one I had waited decades to see. Jeff and the band were tight and on form and played everything you could possibly have asked for (2/3rds were top 20 hits). There was little interaction with the audience though.

HOWEVER, and it is a big however, the O2 stinks as a venue. I have long hated, but had no choice but to go if I wanted to see Jeff Lynne.

Other than for Roll Over Beethoven, the sound was mixed really quietly, so that you spent most of the time listening to the people around you talking. The lighting was atrocious - most of the stage was very dimly lit and yet the seats were almost floodlit, so you could see thousands of faces everywhere but none on the stage. The unjustifiable add-ons to the ticket prices were a total rip-off and the price of a drink exorbitant (£10.20 for 2 beers in one bar, which went up to £10.50 for the same drinks in the second round).

The music though, was excellent and I am sure the light show was good, but the main auditorium lights and the giant speakers suspended from the ceiling obscured most of it. The video screens were also ludicrously small for a 20,000 seater venue.

Add to that the 30 minutes it takes to get from your seat to a tube train and I remembered why I hate the O2 so much.

Electric Light Orchestra was an innovator of rock music with their unique style. The band had the visionary ability to combine rock and pop with classical music. This made them pioneers for any fusion bands that were to come after.

10538 overture showcases the instrumental talent of the band and their genius with this very distinct type of avant-garde sound. Attending a concert by Electric Light Orchestra is a privilege and unique sensation of consciousness. Watching as the band manipulates the instruments to their will and creates such a fascinating sound is a real treat to the concert goer.

Electric Light Orchestra does not rely on contrivance to deliver the goods, they are just that good. Listening to one of their songs is a trip into another dimension of what is possible with imagination and passion. Their fervor for this unique style of sound is apparent immediately when you hear the music.

You can sit back in the audience and simply take in the pure and wonderful sounds and be mentally stimulated in a way unlike any other. For any fan of instrumental music, Electric Light Orchestra is a must have for a collection. A live performance is a rarity now, but should be taken in if the opportunity presents itself.

The show was great. Lynne has not lost a step. The crowd was into it. It was awesome seeing George Harrison’s son sing his dads lyrics on Handle with care. Also Lynne Has surrounded himself with some very talented musicians.

Well I've been a fan of the Electric Light Orchestra for over 40 years I was 15 years old and 11 months when they last toured in 1981 therefore I could not go. When I heard of the North American tour I bought tickets as soon as I could for the nearest city which is Detroit because I live in Indianapolis. My expectations for the show were through the roof and they we're much much better than I could have possibly imagined. They started out the show with a classic from the concerto for a rainy day called standing in the rain. The video effects combined with those fantastic strings was a marvelous opening to it was going to be a fantastic night to quote Jeff Lynne several times. There were no low points at all tonight. I am very biased in writing this review but trust me even if you're not a fan of Elo but you love good music you have a few more chances to see this band in North America and I could not recommend them any higher. God bless Jeff Lynne for all this wonderful music and I hope you come through this way again. This was a bucket list concert for me and as they went off stage arm in arm I really felt emotional but I hope it's not the last time I see him and this wonderful band

Innovators of their time, the Electric Light Orchestra found their unique brand of pop/rock merged with classical instrumentals turn them to international stars. It is worth noting that the Brummy band always found a much greater appreciation for their sound in the States than in their own homeland. Yet now with their iconic status and energetic live show attracts audiences from around the globe.

Recently reunited, the band performed a packed out set at Hyde Park to thousands of revellers who had waited patiently to hear classics such as '10538 Overture' and 'All Over The World'. Despite the band not having performed live since 2001 they sound polished and slick and the time away has clearly not affected their enthusiasm. Jeff Lyne is a fantastic frontman and conducts his audience is mass singalong to the likes of 'Telephone Line'.

One track that was left off the setlist was their film score collaboration with Olivia Newton John 'Xanadu' yet fingers crossed it will appear on the upcoming world tour. Luckily their most famous track 'Mr. Blue Sky' brought the main set to a euphoric end as the crowds danced and sang under the balmy British summer sun.

Jeff Lynne gave a tremendously entertaining show after a 35-year hiatus. Complete with a laser show and complex stage effects, his new band did a great job of presenting the classic ELO experience for a new generation. The harmonies and instrumentation were spot-on to the original recordings. My father came with me tonight and enjoyed every minute of it. He only knew 2 or 3 hits by the band, but nevertheless it was enjoyable for the man. One of the highlights of the evening for me was the performance of "Handle With Care" by the 1980s supergroup The Traveling Wilburys. Lynne brought down the house as one of new backup singers impeccably imitated the late rock icon Roy Orbison. People all around me rose from their seats and cheered when images of Tom Petty, George Harrison, and Orbison flashed across the screen and elicited a nostalgic memory trip among their thousands of fans gathered in the historic Forum this warm summer night. As Lynne ended the marathon setlist with the required Mr. Blue Sky, I believe that he did his music right. Now here comes Mr. Night.

My favorite band since I was a teenager in the 70s. Too much great music to count! Saw their tour last year in Philadelphia -- it was amazing! Jeff doesn't miss a beat, and the entire group is on point with lyrics and music. The light show is always incredible. If you haven't seen them, put it on your list and do so! In addition to my own personal nostalgia and love for the group being projected, the entire audience adds their enormous energy and enthusiasm as some are traveling down youthful memories while others are experiencing ELO magic for the first or more recent time(s). It's fabulous no matter if you're an ELO veteran or a newbie or somewhere in between. My husband and I will be enjoying Jeff Lynne's ELO in Pittsburgh tonight! I am beyond excited and look forward to another phenomenal performance this evening. I would love to one day meet Jeff Lynne and thank him personally for what his music has added to my life -- and continues to do so! In the meantime, I will give him and his crew my praise in reviews such as this.

This show was pretty close to perfect. Super tight band, stunning visuals, and a front man who seems to have hardly aged, an effect which obviously benefits from Lynne's low key style, make this show as exciting as I could possibly imagine. I'm sure there may be a few fans butt hurt over the absence of Bev Bevan etc., but I can't even imagine anyone playing with a better sound than the current lineup. Granted, I might have preferred a few deep cuts in exchange for the few later era hits (although "When I Was a Boy" was lovely and very apropos) and the greatest hits approach made "Can't Get It Out of My Head" a puzzling omission. Still, I was jumping up and down for most of the 20 songs, and opening act Dhani Harrison's participation in a Traveling Wilbury moment was special indeed. This was easily one of the best concerts I have seen in the 21st century.

ELO has been my favorite group since I was 10 (the "Out Of The Blue" album), so getting to finally see Jeff Lynne singing all those great songs was a lifelong dream finally come true. Jeff and his new band sounded fantastic. The light show would put any EDM DJ's show to shame (green lasers creating 'rain' falling on the audience, the stage becoming a giant turntable). The songlist wasn't as extensive as the concert at Wembley (no "Xanadu", "Ma Ma Belle" or "Twilight") but "All Over The World" was mind-blowing to hear and The Travelling Wilburys' "Handle With Care" had opening singer Dhani Harrison (George's son) nailing his dad's verses. Basically, the best concert I've ever seen in my life for so many reasons.

At this stage it is a USA only tour. No Australian dates have been announced. Lynne only ever toured Australia twice with ELO in 1975 and 1978. jeff lynne's elo australian tour

Jeff Lynne recently announced ELO’s last-ever tour. When the band played their first show in April 1972 he couldn’t have predicted the success ahead of him – and how easy it would be for him to write the songs that made his name. In 2016 he told Prog about the ELO’s formative years.

Only the wildly optimistic would have predicted from listening to Electric Light Orchestra at the start of the 70s that by the end of the decade, they would be one of the biggest bands on the planet.

Actually, the first track by the fledgling outfit, the Jeff Lynne-penned 10538 Overture (originally intended to be a Move B-side when it was recorded in July 1970), was a Top 10 UK hit, despite sounding, with its big cello riff, like heavy metal played by classical musicians, or hard rock chamber music.

Much of the rest of Electric Light Orchestra’s self-titled debut album was more progressive than pop. Look At Me Now was like Eleanor Rigby on downers. Nellie Takes Her Bow was a riot of discordant strings that could have been Bernard Hermann running amok with a rock band. Manhattan Rumble ( 49th Street Massacre ) might have soundtracked a horror movie shower scene.

The Battle of Marston Moor ( July 2nd 1644 ) brought to mind a 17th-century ELP, while Queen Of The Hours used violins less as a sweetener than a shrill counterpart to all the low-register sawing cellos. Only the projected second single from the album, Mr Radio , exhibited any of the qualities of the band who would later colonise the world’s hit parades. Issued in December 1971, the album faltered at No.32 – ELO’s highest-charting UK album until 1976.

Still, if it hardly augured well for their commercial fortunes, it was certainly a fine showcase for mainmen Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood ’s prodigious talents. They may have had fellow founder member Bev Bevan on drums, timpani and percussion, Bill Hunt on horns and keyboards, Steve Woolam on violin, plus three cellists – but it was mainly Lynne and Wood’s show.

Lynne, who got involved in production on The Electric Light Orchestra , just as he did on the final two Move albums (1970’s Looking On and 1971’s Message From The Country ), denies that the famously multifaceted Wood provided the inspiration for his multifarious contributions.

“Not at all,” he says on the phone from his home in California. “I was already playing quite a few different instruments. I took up the piano pretty much as soon as I joined [pre-ELO band] The Idle Race because I wrote most of the songs on the piano – I used to transpose them from the guitar. So I could play quite well after a few months, just by teaching myself.”

Lynne gives Wood credit for the cello part on 10538 Overture , played on a “Chinese cello that he bought for 40 quid”. But as Lynne points out, that cello playing, and his other contributions to that first ELO album, marked the end of Wood’s involvement with the band, give or take some bass and cello parts on two tracks from 1973’s follow-up album, ELO 2 .

My dad would say, ‘The trouble with your tunes is you ain’t got no tunes.’ And I thought, ‘I’ll show yer, you bugger’

“His cello parts on 10538 Overture sounded fantastic,” he says, miming the jugga-jugga-jugga-jug riff. “And then he left after about six months to form his own group, Wizzard. That was the last time, really, that we hung out together.” If Lynne is keen to minimise Wood’s inspiration, he does admit to loving Paul McCartney ’s DIY job on McCartney (1970). Of course, The Beatles had always been one of Lynne’s primary influences. And he had first-hand experience of his idols while still with The Idle Race when he met them during the making of The White Album . Not that he heard any of the music.

“I didn’t actually listen to The White Album,” says Lynne of that fateful day in 1968. “I was invited to Abbey Road by an engineer I knew from where I was recording the first Idle Race album [Advision Studios]. But all I saw was Paul and Ringo in one studio and John and George in the other. They were really friendly, the lads, and there was George Martin , leaping around, conducting the strings for Glass Onion . I couldn’t believe I was there! I couldn’t sleep for days.”

One of the original aims of the Electric Light Orchestra was to take up “where The Beatles had left off, and to present it on stage,” so it must have come as a pleasant surprise when John Lennon himself rechristened the group “the sons of The Beatles.”

“Yeah,” acknowledges Lynne, very much the fan even after all these years, “that was rather a good compliment. I’ve still got that down on tape.” Was Lennon the Beatle he most admired? “I admired all of them, to be honest,” he says, diplomatically.

Despite handling many of the instrumental chores and all of the songwriting ones from ELO 2 onwards, Lynne denies being all four of the Fabs in one: “No, course not,” he says. “I think they beat anybody.”

Besides, he never had the advantage, even when Wood was still there, of having a head-to-head writing partner. “When Roy was in the group, we never collaborated,” he says. “We always brought our own songs in. We never sat round the same table and said, ‘Give us a bridge for this.’ That’s why The Beatles were so brilliant, because they had totally different styles blending in together. Whereas I’d make my own odd bridges and put them in.”

So Lynne had to push himself in the way that Lennon and McCartney would each other? “Yeah,” he allows. “I was always trying to find out how everything worked. It was quite amazing to be able to use a giant orchestra when I wanted to and have all that studio time.”

All credit to Lynne because he managed to replicate the Fabs’ diversity with little outside help. On ELO 2 there were harsh prog workouts, such as In Old England Town ( Boogie No. 2 ), 11-minute anti-war tirades ( Kuiama ), pretty ballads ( Momma) , and Chuck Berry rewrites ( Roll Over Beethoven ).

“I would venture into all different types of worlds to make tunes,” he says. “You could do what the hell you liked. I did quite a few of those adventurous, ‘out there’-type things in those days.

“It wasn’t about ambition,” he adds. “The songs just came out that way. I think some of the real pop ditties we were doing in The Move were nowhere near as good as what we were doing in ELO because they were a lot freer. There were no boundaries.”

I was always surprised when anything did well. And they all started to do well at that point

Was he a prog musician with a pop sensibility, or vice versa? “I just liked spreading myself across the board,” he says. “I loved doing wacky things – progressive things, I suppose you could call them – but basically I’m a pop songwriter. As the years go by, I have become more interested in concise, shorter pieces.”

The third album, 1973’s On The Third Day , was the one with the Richard Avedon sleeve in the States where the famed photographer got the band members to display their belly buttons. (“I’ve no idea why,” says Lynne. “I just think he liked people’s belly buttons.”) The songs may have been mostly around the four- and five-minute mark, but it’s possibly ELO’s proggiest album, with titles such as Ocean Breakup/King Of The Universe on Side One and a continuous suite on the flip.

“I suppose that could be said of it,” concedes Lynne, who considers it “one of my favourite of our albums.” Did he meet any resistance from the record company baffled by the presence of concertos by Grieg ( In The Hall Of The Mountain King ) alongside neo-soul ballads?

“Not at all,” he says. “People used to accept what you gave them in those days. I remember doing the mastering of Showdown and the guy who did the edit said, ‘This has a real touch of class.’ I was really chuffed.”

There would be more praise as ELO’s music became progressively less progressive. Even his old man, a classical music fan, would be forced to concede that his son was on the right track. “I was concentrating on trying to get the melodies where I wanted them,” he says, his voice betraying more than a hint of Brum. “That was my dad’s criticism. He’d say, ‘The trouble with your tunes is you ain’t got no tunes.’ And I thought, ‘I’ll show yer, you bugger.’”

Eldorado (1974) may have had a loose concept about a daydreamer journeying to fantastical places to escape his boring reality, but it was ELO’s first bona fide pop album. It even contained a US Top 10 hit, Can’t Get It Out Of My Head . “I was always surprised when anything did well,” Lynne admits. “And they all started to do well at that point.”

The success of Can’t Get It Out Of My Head opened up doors for the band to tour America, under the watchful eye of their notorious manager, Don Arden, father of Sharon Osbourne.

“The first few tours were really exciting,” recalls Lynne, although he doesn’t recall Osbourne attempting to kick-start some on-the-road shenanigans – from a band she regarded as staid – by throwing a TV set out of a US hotel window. He laughs, perhaps thinking back to his impoverished upbringing. “No, we never did any TV-throwing – I’d rather nick ’em than throw ’em out the window.”

Back in Blighty, ELO’s upward trajectory continued apace with 1975’s Face The Music and singles Strange Magic and Evil Woman , which Lynne professes to have written in minutes.

“We were in the studio and I thought, ‘I ain’t got a single yet for this album.’ So I sent the other guys out to play football and said, ‘I’m going to make this up now in five minutes.’ And of course, I didn’t think I would, but I did – I went to the piano and those three chords of Evil Woman just came right out of my hand.”

Prog fans might also have noticed the opening track, Fire On High , with its symphonic grandeur, multiple sections and eerie backwards message, which was drummer Bev Bevan proclaiming, “The music is reversible but time is not. Turn back. Turn back. Turn back. Turn back.”

“I used to get stick for that,” he grumbles. “These weirdo guys – pseudo-religious people – said, ‘It’s all talking about the Devil!’ What a load of crap. If you say something and then play it backwards, it always sounds like that.”

The spaceship was great. At the end of the show I’d jump off the back of the stage and watch it closing…That was the highlight of the show

From then on, ELO could do no wrong – they bossed the second half of the 70s. A New World Record (1976) sold five million copies within its first year of release and included global hits Telephone Line and Livin’ Thing – testaments to Lynne’s ability to compress elaborate musical ideas into three and four-minute pop symphonies. “ Tightrope is quite complex,” he agrees. “There’s quite a lot going on in those songs. I used to have a joke in the old days where I’d say, ‘I don’t stop till I can see through the tape.’”

Would he have just fiddled and fiddled if he’d been left to his own devices? “I would have, yeah. But I’m glad I didn’t now because it left the songs fresh. I only had a certain amount of time anyway: probably about six weeks to make an album, and a month to write it.”

True enough: 1977’s Out Of The Blue double-LP opus – the 10-million-seller featuring Sweet Talkin’ Woman , Turn To Stone and the Concerto For A Rainy Day , including Mr Blue Sky , that catapulted ELO on to a whole new level of stardom – was written in four weeks in the mountains of Geneva. And that included a period of writer’s block.

“The weather was crap for the first couple of weeks,” he remembers. “I didn’t come up with anything and I was down the pub all the time, this nice little tavern in the village. Finally, the weather cleared and that’s what gave me the idea for the words to Mr Blue Sky. Inspiration could come at any moment. And did, frequently.”

ELO’s subsequent tour was suitably spectacular, featuring an enormous set and a hugely expensive spaceship stage with fog machines and a laser display. Billed as The Big Night, it was the highest-grossing concert tour ever up to that point.

“That was fun,” says Lynne with an audible grin. “The spaceship was great. At the end of the show I’d jump off the back of the stage and watch it closing. I’d hide behind a barrier and it used to knock me out every night. It made such a bloody racket. There were jets of steam coming out, a ridiculous low rumble, and this big, loud classical music as it closed. That, for me, was the highlight of the show.”

Was that weird? The boy from Shard End, part of this Spielbergian extravaganza? “Heh heh, yeah. The thing is, though, it happens so gradually that it’s not a shock. It’s like, ‘Wow, it’s got better than it was last year.’”

Really, it couldn’t get any better for ELO. By Out Of The Blue and the follow‑up, 1979’s Discovery , they were the biggest rock band on Earth, arguably rivalled only by fellow quasi-proggers Supertramp . Everything they released, everything they did, was a newsworthy event. Was Lynne aware of how mega ELO were?

“Not really,” he says. Perhaps he had learned by then to switch off – their commercial enormity was only matched by the critical enmity they faced as the punk and post-punk music press poured scorn on the band’s every lavish note.

“Obviously when you put out a record you hope it’s going to do well. I used to be very wary of reading anything in case it changed me or my thoughts about what I was going to do next. Some of the media were great, like Kenny Everett. But some were wicked. You got some reviews that were like, ‘Bastard!’”

Still, creatively speaking, did he feel as though he was on a roll? “Yeah, I really did,” he says. “I could do no wrong. Every song I wrote came together easily. It was just one of those patches – about five years’ worth. I was really lucky to go through that.”

The group, originally called Electric Light Orchestra and formed by Lynne, Bev Bevan and Roy Wood in 1970, announced plans for a 27-date tour that begins Aug. 24 in Palm Desert, California, and ends Oct. 25 in Los Angeles, Rolling Stone reported.

Artist presale will begin on Wednesday at 10 a.m. local time and the general sale begins Friday at 10 a.m. local time, according to Variety .

The original Electric Light Orchestra played from 1970 to 1986 and produced a string of hits, including “Evil Woman,” “Don’t Bring Me Down,” “Do Ya,” “Strange Magic,” “Mr. Blue Sky” and “Turn to Stone.”

🛸 The Over and Out Tour, the final tour, is coming to the U.S. and it’s going to be out of this world! Join Jeff Lynne’s ELO for a historic night live in concert. The group officially disbanded in 1986 and Lynne, 76, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with his group in 2017 , went on to a solo career and extensive production work. He would produce music for George Harrison, Tom, Petty, Roy Orbison, Paul McCartney, Joe Walsh and Bryan Adams, Variety reported. Lynne also produced The Beatles’ two new songs on their 1995-96 “Anthology” series -- “Free As a Bird” and “Real Love.”

In 1988, Lynne joined with Harrison, Petty, Orbison and Bob Dylan to form the Traveling Wilburys, the entertainment news website reported.

After Lynne dissolved the group, Bevan formed ELO Part II with new musicians, creating bitterness that still exists, according to Rolling Stone .

Lynne revived the ELO brand in 2001, featuring himself with longtime keyboardist Richard Tandy from the original lineup for the “Zoom” album, Variety reported.

He continued to tour and released two more albums -- “Alone in the Universe” (2015) and “From Out of Nowhere” (2019), the entertainment news website reported.

The group’s first show since 2019 took place on Nov. 12, 2023, at Joe Walsh’s VetsAid concert in Chula Vista, California, according to Rolling Stone .

Lynne was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2023 .

Jeff Lynne's ELO to begin farewell tour on Aug. 24 at Acrisure Arena

It's the final curtain for Jeff Lynne’s ELO (Electric Light Orchestra).

After four decades and selling 50 million records worldwide, Lynne announced the band will embark on a farewell tour this fall starting on Aug. 24 at Acrisure Arena.

How to get tickets

An ELO presale begins at 10 a.m. local time March 20, with the general sale starting at 10 a.m. local time March 22. VIP experiences will also go on sale at 10 a.m. local time March 20. Tickets will be  available via livenation.com  and details about the VIP packages can be found  at jefflynneselo.com.

Upgrades for The Compound at Acrisure Arena featuring an outdoor VIP premium space with full-service bar, buffet, fire pits, miniature golf and more are also available for $165.

The band's previous tour in 2019 received many accolades

During the  band’s last U.S. run , Lynne offered a 20-song setlist that included Electric Light Orchestra gems “Evil Woman,” “Don’t Bring Me Down,” “Telephone Line” and “Do Ya,” all reproduced with stunning clarity. Even the underappreciated and much-maligned “Xanadu” from the 1980 Olivia Newton-John movie received its due.

In addition to his prowess as a producer, Lynne was also a co-founder and member of The Traveling Wilburys with George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison  and Tom Petty.  The collective also received a nod in the live production with a comforting rendition of “Handle with Care.”

Lynne was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2023 and ELO  ushered into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame  in 2017.

Moscow: City Sightseeing by Car/Bus

Visiting a new city is akin to going on a first date, it is something you will never forget. Many people imagine Moscow as just a bunch of sporadic landmarks: Red Square, the Kremlin, Lenin’s Mausoleum and GUM. There is so much more to this wonderful city than that and even though we only have a few hours, we will do all we can to show you everything we know and love about our capital in one fell swoop. We will take you on a journey through the ages, from centuries ago, right up to the modern day, soaking in the sights of this vast and bustling metropolis. Bright, luxurious and both ancient and modern at the same time, Moscow invites you on a date you’ll never forget!

On our sightseeing bus tour of the city, you will see:

  • The wonderfully historic city centre and its unique museums, magnificent cathedrals, the exquisite Chambers of the Romanov Boyars and of course, the famous towering red brick walls of the Kremlin, The charming beauty of the Alexander Garden awaits the capital's guests - a lush green oasis in the midst of the glass and concrete clad metropolis, basking in the etherial aura emanating from the whitewashed stone walls of the restored Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the world- renowned fairytale onion domes of St. Basil's Cathedral and other impressive monumental buildings such as the library built in Lenin's honour - the Russian State Library - and the State Duma.
  • The Lubyanka KGB headquarters is notorious to members of older generations and although nowadays, the face of the secret police has changed dramatically, the looming enigmatic building on the waterfront maintains its aura of mystery, shrouded in a variety of murky rumours and dark myths. Then, there’s another of Moscow's main attractions - the marvellous Bolshoi Theatre, yew simply cant leave Moscow without taking in its breathtaking architecture. Engrained in the fabric of Russia's cultural heritage, virtuoso performers such as prima ballerina Galina Ulanova, opera singer Feodor Chaliapin and pianist, composer and conductor Sergei Rachmaninoff once stood centre stage of this vaunted institution.
  • The memorial complex on Poklonnaya Hill was constructed in the glory and honour of our heroes who defended our nation in the many crucial battles of the Great Patriotic War (WWII). This is a place that embodies a particularly acute and inextricable link between older ancf younger generations. Moving on to the Moscow International Business Centre, not dubbed ‘Moscow City' for nothing, a true glimpse of the future in the present. This incredible, rather jaw-dropping project in the capital has shown that Moscow has come to accept the age of the skyscraper. Finally, the stunning views from the observation deck at Sparrow Hills will leave professional and amateur photographers alike itching to capture them. How could one resist?

The most beautiful of all the world's cities - lady Moscow invites you out on a date!

Most Beautiful Metro Stations in Moscow

Most Beautiful Metro Stations in Moscow

Visiting Moscow? Get yourself a metro card and explore Moscow’s beautiful metro stations. Moscow’s world-famous metro system is efficient and a great way to get from A to B. But there is more to it; Soviet mosaic decorations, exuberant halls with chandeliers, colourful paintings and immense statues. Moscow’s metro is an attraction itself, so take half a day and dive into Moscow’s underground!

The best thing to do is to get on the brown circle (number 5) line since the most beautiful metro stations are situated on this line. The only exception is the metro stop Mayakovskaya one the green line (number 2). My suggestion is to get a map, mark these metro stops on there and hop on the metro. It helps to get an English > Russian map to better understand the names of the stops. At some of the metro stops, the microphone voice speaks Russian and English so it’s not difficult at all.

Another thing we found out, is that it’s worth taking the escalator and explore the other corridors to discover how beautiful the full station is.

Quick hotel suggestion for Moscow is the amazing Brick Design Hotel .

These are my favourite metro stations in Moscow, in order of my personal preference:

1. Mayakovskaya Station

The metro station of Mayakovskaya looks like a ballroom! Wide arches, huge domes with lamps and mosaic works make your exit of the metro overwhelming. Look up and you will see the many colourful mosaics with typical Soviet pictures. Mayakovskaya is my personal favourite and is the only stop not on the brown line but on the green line.

2. Komsomolskaya Station

Komsomolskaya metro station is famous for its yellow ceiling. An average museum is nothing compared to this stop. Splendour all over the place, black and gold, mosaic – again – and enormous chandeliers that made my lamp at home look like a toy.

jeff lynne's elo australian tour

3. Novoslobodskaya Station

The pillars in the main hall of Novoslobodskaya metro station have the most colourful stained glass decorations. The golden arches and the golden mosaic with a naked lady holding a baby in front of the Soviet hammer and sickle, make the drama complete.

jeff lynne's elo australian tour

4. Prospect Mira Station

The beautiful chandeliers and the lines in the ceiling, make Prospekt Mira an architectural masterpiece.

5. Belorusskaya Station

Prestigious arches, octagonal shapes of Socialistic Soviet Republic mosaics. The eyecatcher of Belorusskaya metro station, however, is the enormous statue of three men with long coats, holding guns and a flag.

jeff lynne's elo australian tour

6. Kiyevskaya Station

The metro station of Kiyevskaya is a bit more romantic than Belorusskaya and Prospect Mira. Beautiful paintings with classical decorations.

jeff lynne's elo australian tour

7. Taganskaya Station

At the main hall Taganskaya metro station you will find triangle light blue and white decorations that are an ode to various Russians that – I assume – are important for Russian history and victory. There is no need to explore others halls of Taganskaya, this is it.

jeff lynne's elo australian tour

8. Paveletskaya Station

Another and most definitely the less beautiful outrageous huge golden mosaic covers one of the walls of Paveletskaya. I would recommend taking the escalator to the exit upstairs to admire the turquoise dome and a painting of the St Basil’s Cathedral in a wooden frame.

Travelling with Moscow’s metro is inexpensive. You can have a lot of joy for just a few Rubbles.

  • 1 single journey: RMB 50 – € 0,70

It’s absolutely beautiful! Moscow is a great city trip destination and really surprised me in many ways.

My partner and I did a self guided Moscow Metro tour when we were there 2 years ago. So many breathtaking platforms…I highly recommend it! Most of my favorites were along the Brown 5 line, as well. I also loved Mayakovskaya, Arbatskaya, Aleksandrovski Sad and Ploshchad Revolyutsii. We’re heading back in a few weeks and plan to do Metro Tour-Part 2. We hope to see the #5 stations we missed before, as well as explore some of the Dark Blue #3 (Park Pobedy and Slavyansky Bul’var, for sure), Yellow #8 and Olive #10 platforms.

That’s exciting Julia! Curious to see your Metro Tour-Part 2 experience and the stations you discovered.
