EasyJet, a British multinational low-cost airline, introduced new flights to northern Iceland. This led to the opening of short break options in the Arctic Winter 2023-24 brochure of Regent Holidays, one of the first UK tour operators to specialise in Iceland holidays.

This year’s winter collection features holidays to Iceland, Lapland, Greenland, Norway and Sweden, with departures from November 1 until March 31, 2024.

Andrea Godfrey, the brand manager and destination specialist at Regent Holidays, said, “Our new brochure is packed with winter adventure ideas and amongst our popular itineraries and brand new holidays, we’re also excited that the new easyJet flights for this winter into Akureyri, Iceland, offer new opportunities for winter short breaks too.”

Regent was able to introduce a four-night North Iceland Winter fly-drive tour worth £1,095 based on two sharing thanks to the easyJet service from Gatwick to Akureyri.

Three themed packages set in and around Reykjavik have been reintroduced, each with new excursions. They offer the chance to explore lagoons and geothermal baths; mountains and glaciers; and Reykjavik’s gourmet restaurants and food trucks.

Meanwhile, a new tour option has opened up in Norway which is the eight-night Havila Voyages Winter Northbound Cruise, taking guests from Bergen to Kirkenes, visiting fjords, crossing the Arctic Circle and sailing around the North Cape plateau. This option includes a stay in Bergen and the Snow Hotel in Kirkenes and costs from £2,175 based on two sharing.

There are four new dates in 2024 for the popular Dog Sledding Expedition to East Greenland tour, while the Finnish itineraries will offer new options on room types at the Apukka Glass Igloos Resort.

Isafjordur, Iceland

An ancient church site and a trading post since the 16th century, it’s the dazzling natural beauty of Isafjordur that keeps visitors coming back again and again. Surrounded on three sides by remarkable mountains jutting upwards around a gorgeous bay, this is one of the most beautiful places you’ll ever visit.

Golfing, hiking, biking, horseback riding and bird watching are just some of the outdoor activities you’ll enjoy during the summer months. Winter offers a chance for skiing and snowboarding. And available to view year-round is the Maritime Museum in one of the city’s oldest buildings dating back to the 18th century.

Memorable holiday

My holiday had multiple locations and was somewhere I had never been before. So I needed uptodate expertise to get all the bookings right. Regent proposed an itinerary that fitted my ambitions perfectly and was practical. They responded knowledgably and courteously to my last-minute queries. And the whole tour went like clockwork.

Magical Monenegro

Just back from 7 magical days in Montenegro. The hotels selected by Regent were both really good - great facilities and most importantly lovely teams of staff who made us feel really welcome. The transfers went smoothly as did everything else. Regent kept in touch between booking and departure which was helpful too. There are a lot of steps from the hotel down to the beach and hotel restaurant in Herceg Novi - which could be useful for some people to know in advance.

An excellent, interesting and well organised private tour

We had a very easy, interesting and well-organised private tour of Montenegro, very well customised to our requirements. The vehicles, drivers and hotels were a good standard and all arrangements went without a hitch. All excursions were private with very knowledgeable, personable guides and seemed to be timed to avoid the cruise crowds as far as possible.

Excellent Holiday to the Baltics and Helsinki

Regent organised for us an excellent 12 day trip to Helsinki and the Baltics. They clearly know the region and I would thoroughly recommend them.

An interesting trip to St Miguel Island…

An interesting trip to St Miguel Island in the Azores with a 2 night stop over in Lisbon on the way home. We have used Regent before and found their organisation excellent. The Azores is certainly worth a visit although having to change planes at Lisbon makes the journey quite long. The hotel was adequate, in the very centre of Ponta Delgado, though 4* ?, the island is still quite under developed from a tourist point of view Plenty to do and see though, on our Whale watching trip we saw Orca's, dolphins, pilot and sperm whales. The other 2 Land Rover trips were also good. Our stayover in Lisbon was great although so busy by comparison with St Miguel.

birding adventure in Iceland

We had an adventurous trip driving round Iceland to watch birds. I suggest keeping an eye on road.is traffic information. We had road closures due to wind and snow [in June]. Phone Regent if there is a problem Iceland is a very expensive country to visit but we enjoyed our trip.

Our first visit to Slovenia

Our first visit to Slovenia, and it certainly didn't disappoint. Great scenery, very green and mountainous, and an overall impression of cleanliness and tidiness. We had a two-centre holiday, starting with four nights in Bled, which is a miniature version of the Italian Lakes. Very scenic, marred only by inclement weather (much rain, no sun until our last morning!). Hotel Kompas was comfortable and well-located, although our room could have been a little bigger, but all other facilities were excellent. Bled is primarily an outdoor pursuits centre (walking, cycling, canoeing), but offers a number of alternatives for the less active, e.g. a land-train around the lake, and boat trips to the island. We took a local bus to Bohinj lake (around 30 minutes), which is a very scenic journey, and Bohinj is well worth a visit. Realistically, two full days is enough to take in the delights of Bled, but three days gave us time for relaxation. Our second centre was Ljubljana (4 nights). This is a lovely city, compact and architecturally very attractive. Buzzing with tourists, and packed with cafes and bars, particularly by the river. Plenty to do and see - the Old Town, the castle, a very good tourist train, and recommend a relaxing river trip,. Would also highly recommend a trip to Postojna caves, approx. 40km away. The cave system is mind-blowing, but avoid the day trips advertised by local companies in Ljubljana, who charge around 90 Euros per head - catch the local bus from Ljubljana (1.90 euros each way) for a very scenic journey, and book online for the cave visit (29 euros). Overall, an excellent holiday experience, very well organised by Regent.

Fabulous holiday in Iceland

Fabulous holiday in Iceland! Well organised by Regent and paperwork received covered everything we needed to know. We spent 18 nights which included a few days in the Westfjords which we would recommend to anyone going. not normally included on a circular trip of the country but well worth the detour. Driving is easy and in May, the roads are empty apart from in Reykjavik. But be prepared to pay a lot for food and drink!

Wonderful Holiday in Croatia

The hotels were well chosen as was the itinerary. The people, not only hotel and restaurant staff, were all so friendly and welcoming. The scenery was unexpectedly spectacular and the towns lived up to our high expectations. We would love to go again and will certainly use Regent in future.

Wonderful tour of Azerbaijan

We have just returned from a wonderful 18 days in Azerbaijan. We chose Regent Holidays as we have used them many times before and always had positive experiences. The itinerary was designed by Carl in discussion with ourselves and it worked extremely well. Our thanks to Carl for his encouragement and readiness to help if needed. All the arrangements [accommodation, meals, drivers, guides] were superb. We had a great opportunity to travel around the country and were very fortunate to spend three amazing days in Nakhchivan [an exclave only accessed by a short flight from Baku]. Throughout the trip we enjoyed meeting the people of Azerbaijan and learning about their rich history and culture. We can thoroughly recommend Regent Holidays for organising outstanding travel!

SHORT INTERIM TWO CENTRE BREAK

Thinking of a fairly short, 10 days or so, two centre break in Slovenia between other holidays, and not having previously visited the country we were less than comfortable doing it ourselves. We contacted and had a chat about our thoughts with Fergus. Quickly he was back with a proposed package, within budget and including connecting flights between Gatwick and Newquay, something of a bonus. Being someone who wants to know, understand and even question the detail, I found Fergus undaunted, providing more than adequate answers/explanations and he didn't hesitate to say what these were based on, ie his own personal experiences or that of others. A reassuring bespoke experience. And of course 'proof of the pudding is in the eating' - did everything meet expectations? - YES and in some cases exceeded.

What can I say

What can I say? Our trip was perfect from beginning to end and we didn’t stick to the routes planned as driving was so easy! It was such a hassle free stress free trip knowing that the hotels were of a good standard and all booked in advance. The car we hired was cheap to run and very comfortable. Regent were excellent and the routes they proposed were great if you didn’t know what to see. We, however, wanted to see stave churches so we went off the beaten track a bit. We still managed to see a lot of what the original routes covered. Regent just made the trip that much easier by organising everything in advance. Thank you for our brilliant holiday!!

Thanks to Emma

Thanks to Emma, we had a wonderful time in the Azores. Whale watching was amazing where we were lucky enough to spot blue whale, sperm whales and dolphins. The scenery is beautiful. Everything went smoothly with guides at the ready to give our island hopping an experience we will never forget

Arctic adventure

Not having experienced Arctic conditions we wanted an organised trip, and we were very pleased with the arrangements from Regent. Robert took a lot of care to make sure that our itinerary was suitable, and that everything worked smoothly. A last minute glitch with travel documents was sorted out speedily. The hotel and organised activities (mostly with Hurtigruten) were excellent. We tagged on two nights in Oslo to spend a bit of time getting to know the city. Flights worked well, and the hospitality and respect shown us was exemplary.

Sognefjord Express trip Peter was very helpful when booking our…

Peter was very helpful when booking our trip to Norway based on the Sogneford itinerary with a day excursion added from Bergen to Hardangerfjord. Enjoyed the trip and the scenery was stunning. Hotels in good locations, information generally very helpful, and hotel food excellent especially breakfast at the Thon hotel in Oslo. A few improvements needed, in our opinion, considering the price: 1. The trip was for a special big birthday which we told Regent, but for whatever reason all of the hotels either didn’t know or didn’t acknowledge it. 2. The Thon hotels were good but the room we were allocated in Bergen was tiny with a shower cubicle right next to the toilet so when you sat on the toilet your feet were in the shower tray! We had to ask for a room change and luckily the hotel were very good about it. 3. The Kviknes hotel room was relatively poor value for the 4 star price, no toiletries, no bath mat no tea or coffee facilities and we paid for a fjord view but it was more a side fjord view 4. The excursion instructions were generally spot on, except the Hardangerfjord excursion, there was confusion over the return bus trip to Bergen (the bus wasn’t marked with a number or destination) and a few of us nearly missed it despite hanging out at the bus stop for half an hour and checking with the buses when they arrived). Overall we enjoyed our trip, just a few improvements could have made it perfect.

Great trip to Iceland

The trip to Iceland included everything we wanted to see. Well organised, lovely central hotel, but we would have preferred the Blue Lagoon trip not to have been on the day we were flying home.

Trip to the Azores. Beautiful green islands, interesting history. However travel to get there via Lisbon and between islands lessened the satisfaction, and some inconsistencies with the itinery were found

Wonderful holiday in Jordan. Booking it was very easy with the agent, and the whole experience in the country was amazing. Having the same guide/driver, Khaled, made everything work like clockwork. Would highly recommend this company, and beautiful Jordan to anyone.

Wonderful tour of the Western Balkans

We had a very enjoyable two weeks touring Albania, Kosovo and North Macedonia. We visited a variety of places including churches, mosques, museums, castles, historic cities and beautiful countryside. The food and accommodation was generally very good. The only downside was that our two guides were enthusiastic amateurs rather than professional guides. The first made a couple of mistakes with directions, argued with the driver and had to be reminded that Lake Prespa was on the itinerary, whilst the second was too lax about timekeeping, which meant that we often arrived late. Both were very nice and helpful though. Overall, we had a great time.

Petra Weekender

From booking to the end of our trip everything was perfect . On booking Susanne was very knowledgeable and gave us good advice. We were met before customs by someone to aid with visa and they escorted us to the already waiting driver. The driver was great, knowledgeable and always on time . Hotel locations perfect, you couldn’t get any closer to the entrance to Petra. Cooking course was also a great experience. Would not hesitate to recommend and use Regent again ….

Date of experience : 23 April 2024

Dear Tony, Thank you for sharing such a positive review, following your weekend away in Petra. I'm delighted the plans that Susanne put in place, resulted in a perfect trip. Thank you also for recommending us to others and for intending to travel with us again. With best wishes, Gillian - Customer Service Manager
