ROSE PARADE TOUR PACKAGES WILL INCLUDE

You will have a choice of 3 hotels

Our clients have been happy with all three hotels for past events.

The Millennium Biltmore Los Angeles is a full service hotel in downtown Los Angeles. The Biltmore has been home to Presidents , Kings , and Hollywood celebrities. 

The Sonesta Redondo Beach is  9 miles South of The LAX Airport and directly across the street from the Marina and nice restaurants. The Sonesta has a rooftop swimming pool with a panoramic view of The Pacific Ocean.

The Huntley Hotel Santa Monica   which is a short walk to the ocean, Santa Monica Pier and the 3rd Street Promenade where there are many restaurants, cafe’s   and entertainment areas.  The Huntley has a really nice restaurant and lounge on the top floor of the hotel with a panoramic view of the ocean. Santa Monica is ten miles North of The LA Airport and is three miles from Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive.

NO MATTER WHICH HOTEL YOU CHOOSE, ALL PACKAGES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING

  • January 1 – Admission to a large float decorating barn in the city of Irwindale. You will see approximately 10-12 floats being worked on and finished before they are judged.
  • January 2- Reserved Grandstand Ticket to the 2023 Tournament of Roses Parade . Our grandstand seat location is 10 minutes from the front of the parade with the sun at your back . The seats are located at 318 West Colorado. We are in a large grandstand where the bands are normally playing. Our buses park 20 yards from the parade seats . Your parade seats can be assigned when your reservation is made and we can accommodate any special requests.
  • A nice sit down lunch at a restaurant in Pasadena after the Rose Parade.
  • Post float viewing at Victory Park   after the conclusion of the parade and lunch. You will be able to walk around Victory Park  and see the floats up close.
  • Transportation to and from all of the events on deluxe motor coach  buses with a restroom.
  • A grab and go continental breakfast on January 1 prior to departing for the float barn.

Three nights starting on December 30 and departing on January 2. ( extra nights are available) You do NOT need to stay near the airport, with our hotel options. Please remember this when comparing packages

  • January 1- Reserved Grandstand Ticket to the 2025 Tournament of Roses Parade aka The Rose Parade. Our grandstand seat location is 10 minutes from the front of the Rose Parade with the sun at your back . The seats are located at 318 West Colorado. We are in a large grandstand with the best rows for viewing the parade. The bands are playing in front of us as they like to play in front of the larger grandstands and take a break in front of the smaller seating areas. Our buses park 20 yards from the parade seats . Your Rose Parade seats can be assigned when your reservation is made and we can accommodate any special requests.
  • Post Rose Parade float viewing tour at Victory Park after the conclusion of the parade and lunch. You will be able to walk around Victory Park and tour the parade floats up close. ALL OF THE FLOATS ARE IN ONE LOCATION.
  • Transportation to and from all of the events on deluxe motor coach  buses with a restroom.
  • A grab and go continental breakfast prior to departing for the Rose Parade.

Float Decorating Barn

DECEMBER 31 – You will be visiting the Phoenix Decorating Barn in the city of Irwindale. Phoenix Decorating is the largest float builder in the parade. You will see volunteers working on the floats. The fee is $100 per person and includes: admission, transportation, and a grab and go lite breakfast to take with you on the bus.

The fee is $100 per person and includes: admission, transportation, and a grab and go lite breakfast to take with you on the bus. (You would need to arrive on DECEMBER 29th for this option, so you would need an extra night added to your package.)

**My humble opinion, going to the barn on December 30 is a better experience than on December 31 but both experiences are nice.

DECEMBER 30 – Catch a sneak peek of some of the Rose Parade Bands as they perform their halftime show. This event is held at the Pasadena City College. The fee is $125 per person and includes admission as well as transportation. (You would need to arrive on December 29 or arrive to the Hotel by 11am on December 30 for this event)

DECEMBER 30 – Combine The FLOAT BARN in the morning with a few hours in OLD TOWN PASADENA with BANDFEST in the afternoon. The fee is $180 per person. When the group is finished at The Float Barn we will drop you off in Old Town Pasadena for 2.5 to 3 hours where you can walk around and get a bite to eat on your own. When we are finished in Old Town Pasadena we will proceed two miles to BANDFEST. The pre show starts at 1:30PM , the main show starts at 2PM ,  The show normally lasts close to 2 hours and then we return to the hotel.

DECEMBER 31 –  Approximate times- 8:45AM- 4PM,  The tour will have 4-5 stops along the way and stop for Lunch AT FARMERS Market. The fee is $125 per person.  Lunch is not part of the $125 fee.

Tournament of Roses Parade

The Rose Parade

Beautiful Pasadena California is home to the Tournament of Roses Parade . More commonly known as The Rose Parade. The Rose Parade has been around since 1890. It occurs annually on new years day, or on Monday, January 2 if New Year’s Day falls on a Sunday. Now, Diamond Travel hasn’t been going to the parade since then, but we have  been taking folks to the parade for over 35 years! Our seats will have the sun at your back and the parade in your view! The parade has followed the famous Colorado blvd for decades. Tickets to the rose parade start at about $80 and can be as expensive as, $120. Hotel and transportation costs however, can be extremely pricey. With our all inclusive packages, you won’t have to worry about the mounting costs of such a trip. We have it all planned out for you! The Rose Parade is absolutely back in full swing now, so call today and get your all inclusive rose parade package with Diamond Travel. Payment can be made with a credit card or a check in the mail. Place a $250 per person deposit to secure your packages. Final payment is due October 1. You can cancel for a full refund until October 1 and then the trip is non refundable. The Marriott LAX Hotel provides a free courtesy shuttle to/from all the terminals at LAX Airport. For those requiring an airport transfer from LAX.

Airport to/from the Westin Bonaventure Hotel we will provide via Curbside Express Shuttle. We would only need your airline flight information to arrange. For those not requiring Westin Bonaventure Hotel Airport Transfers they may deduct $75. per person from Package total.

Upon Hotel arrival and after check-in, visit the Barker Tours Hospitality Desk in the hotel lobby to pick up your Rose Parade tickets, name badges, daily breakfast coupons, and Rose Parade Programs. Visit the  Rosemont Pavilion Float Construction Barn  in Pasadena where magic is made. You will experience the completion stages of a number of Rose Parade Floats that are built in this Barn.

Drive by the sites in the L.A. Civic Center . See the historic Olvera Street. View the breath taking Disney Concert Hall. View the Art Deco designed Union Train Station and the Cathedral of our Lady of the Angels.

Take a leisure stroll through the famous Farmers Market in the Fairfax District. You will have a chance (at your own expense) to purchase a bite to eat at its many eateries.

FloatFest : This is an opportunity for flower lovers to experience every Float that was in the Rose Parade the day before lined up over a 2-miles stretch near Victory Park in Pasadena. You will have the opportunity to take photos within a few feet of the floats to capture every detail of their handy work. ( $69. additional cost. Approximately 8 am to 1 pm tour.)

Presenting sponsor American Honda’s 2023 float showcases the company’s commitment to make people’s lives better by constantly advancing mobility as it pursues its goal of 100% electrified vehicle sales by 2040. Featured on the “Forever Determined” float are the Prologue, Honda’s first all-electric SUV arriving in 2024, Acura’s electrified ARX-06 race machine, an electric motorcycle and two aircraft, the HondaJet Elite S and, a product of the future, the Honda electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft.

7. United States Marine Corps Mounted Color Guard

The United States Marine Corps Mounted Color Guard was formed in 1967 by Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow officers and noncommissioned officers to enhance the image of the Marine Corps and MCLB Barstow in community-sponsored events. The color guard is the last remaining mounted unit in the Marine Corps and plays a key role as a recruitment tool. The unit rides palomino mustangs captured and adopted from the Bureau of Land Management’s Adopt a Horse and Burro Program.

8. United States Marine Corps West Coast Composite Band

Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego and Camp Pendleton

The United States Marine Corps West Coast Composite Band is a combined military band made up of U.S. Marines from the 1st Marine Division Band, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing Band and Marine Band San Diego. Donning the dress blue uniform, these Marine musicians are fully combat trained, and many have completed military tours overseas. Although these bands perform individually over 300 times a year, the Rose Parade is the only event that brings these elite musicians together at the same time.

Road to Reclamation

Participants since 1949, Cal Poly Pomona and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo offer the only student-built float in the Rose Parade . The Road to Reclamation theme encourages a deeper look at nature and how the end of one phase of life can bring opportunity for the next. A fallen branch on a lush forest floor is engulfed with exotic mushrooms and foliage that becomes host to a variety of creatures, including three large animated snails, baby snails and ladybugs. Among the flowers on the float, one snail will be adorned with a deep purple carnation variety known as “Moonshade,” which is not commonly found in floral decorations.

10. Brookwood Bronco Marching Band

Snellville, Ga.

The Bronco Marching Band has nearly 300 students representing all the band classes in their high school. Their philosophy is to be an all-inclusive band and represent the Brookwood community. The Bronco Marching Band’s primary focus is to provide entertaining music enhanced by entertaining visuals.

11. San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance float

Celebrating 50 Years of Conservation

There’s lots of animation going on here, with the two southern white rhinos moving their heads as they look at the road in front of them, and the two large giraffes, the tallest of which is 15 feet, are moving their necks and opening and closing their mouths. The rhinos represent Neville and his mother Livia, animals that are part of the San Diego Zoo Safari Park’s conservation efforts – work that also includes majestic giraffes and many other animals.

12. California State Guard 26th Mounted Operations Detachment

The California  State Guard is part of the California Military Department, which comprises the Army Guard, Air Guard, State Guard and Cadet Corps. The 26th Mounted Operations Detachment represents the CMD at parades, community events, educational functions and mounted color guards at sporting and civic events. Their goal is to educate the public about the California State Guard and recognize the hundreds of soldiers serving in the California State Guard and the thousands of state troops serving throughout the country.

Stoopid Buddy Stoodios, in partnership with Nouns

Stoopid Buddy Stoodios, the production and animation studio known for the Emmy-winning “Robot Chicken,” and Nouns DAO, an NFT-centric project, are making their Rose Parade debut. Stars of this adventure are Mr. Blue (adorned with cut blue statice, poppy seed and seaweed), Mr. Green (green tea leaf, ground split pea, parsley flakes, ground rice and seaweed) and Mr. Orange (orange lentil, orange carnations, red carnations, light lettuce seed and green tea leaf).

15. Foothills Falcon Band

Tucson, Ariz.

The Foothills Falcon Band is the largest marching band in Arizona. The band travels widely, both across the country and around the globe. Renee Shane-Boyd has been the only lead director of the band for its entire 28-year existence.

With its headquarters on Colorado Boulevard, Western Asset is marking its 15th parade with a 55-foot-long entry that serves as a reminder of how our lives are all connected in a beautiful and complex ecosystem of continual growth and change. Animation includes a lead cat on the prowl, and the heads of two birds and the big cat move.

17. Spirit of the West Riders

The Spirit of the West Riders have a passion for horses and preserving the American western heritage. They are a living tribute to the equestrians who pioneered the American frontier. The group is composed of fine western horses of various breeds, coupled with the authentic and colorful outfits of the Old West worn by the riders.

18. Rosemount High School Marching Band

Rosemount, Minn.

The Rosemount High School Marching Band is the largest competitive marching band in Minnesota. The Rosemount community is proud of its Irish heritage, and students and staff strive to live the values of the “Irish Way,” which include community, empathy, compassion, gratitude, acceptance, integrity, honesty, respect and perseverance.

Hope for Peace

Spreading a message of peace, a dove flies over a large tri-color heart-shaped ribbon enclosing gigantic yellow roses and surrounded by olive branches, roses, cranberries and various other species. The dove’s wings will appear to wave as the float moves down the parade route. This is the organization’s 73rd Rose Parade.

Blue Shadows Mounted Drill Team was founded in 1957 with the focus of teaching horseback riding, mounted drill, leadership, responsibility and teamwork. Blue Shadows has participated in many parades over its 61-year history, but in 2016 a dedicated parade team was created with the goal of one day participating in the Rose Parade. Since then, Blue Shadows Mounted Drill Team has appeared in the Rose Parade three times – 2019, 2020 and 2022.

La Banda de Música la Primavera is the flagship musical delegation from the School Educational Center of Panamá and includes elementary, middle and high school students. Its high level of musicality and cultural reach has been supported by the cultural ambassadors of Panamá, the president of the Republic of Panamá and the Archdiocese of Panamá.

With its 17th entry, Kaiser Permanente’s 55-foot-long float features a series of vignettes, highlighting life’s ordinary and extraordinary moments including a mother cradling her newborn baby and a cancer survivor on a bike. At the rear is an oversized heart with 20,000 red carnations. KP’s floats have won 13 prizes, including the Theme Award last year.

24. Alameda County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse

The Alameda County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse was founded in the 1940s, primarily as a precision drill team and color guard. Today, the posse is a dedicated group of volunteers who not only represent the Sheriff’s office in public relations events, but also contribute to the county’s Office of Emergency Services.

Catching the Wave of Service

When’s the last time you saw a surfing bear? This flag-waving teddy from Kiwanis – a nonprofit with members around the world who perform a combined 150,000 service projects annually – is sporting goggles of green ti leaves and yellow fine-cut strawflower, and trunks with blue fine-cut statice, black fine-ground onion seed, green ground parsley flakes, and both orange and yellow fine-cut strawflower among the ingredients to create the flags.

The Wisconsin Northwoods Marching Band is a composite band of eight high schools across north central Wisconsin. This first-of-a-kind composite band was the idea of 2023 Pasadena Tournament of Roses president Amy Wainscott who wanted a band to represent the small-town region she calls home. Schools marching in the parade include Lakeland High School, Northland Pines High School, Three Lakes High School, Merrill High School, Antigo High School, Wausau East High School, DC Everest High School and Mosinee High School.

Together We Rise

A hot air balloon – symbolizing adventure, travel and the ability to see things from a different perspective – and the Alhambra arch frame the city’s 2023 parade entry, the design for which was drawn from a citywide art contest among local school children. Mosaics on the balloon are a tribute to healthcare workers, teachers, public safety workers and frontline workers. The hearts on the hot air balloon honor those who died from COVID-19.

Presented by the Ramona Bowl Amphitheater, Hemet

Equestrians of The Ramona Outdoor Play are the same cowboys and Spanish riders portrayed in the play symbolizing mid-19th century California history. The group includes a variety of horse breeds, including quarter horse, Missouri Fox Trotter and thoroughbred as well as Molly mules. In 2023, the group will commemorate the 100th anniversary of The Ramona Outdoor Play.

Launching Responsible Leaders

Celebrating the 75th anniversary of the 1,300-student liberal arts college and the importance of higher education in American history, Claremont McKenna’s parade entry features students and architecture of the college against a backdrop that suggests the nearby Mt. San Antonio, better known as Mount Baldy. Since 1946, CMC’s mission has been to prepare students for thoughtful and productive lives and responsible leadership in business, government and the professions.

32. Pasadena City College Herald Trumpets

For the 40th consecutive year, the Pasadena City College Herald Trumpets will announce the Rose Queen and her Royal Court. Nine trumpeters and one drummer, who were selected from current PCC trumpeters and over 70 Southern California high school musicians who auditioned, comprise the elite unit. In addition to their appearance in the Rose Parade, the group also participates in other Tournament of Roses events throughout the year such as the Royal Court announcement.

The 2023 Rose Queen Bella Ballard and the princesses of her Royal Court – including Salia Baligh – glide down Colorado Boulevard on a 35-foot float festooned with 5,000 flowers including white and pink mums, pink roses, white and pink carnations and raised roses. Other natural materials on the float include white large lima beans, red kidney beans, black onion seed, red fine-cut strawflower, pampas grass, fine ground rice and purple fine-cut statice.

Rockford, Mich.

The Rockford Marching Band is the largest competitive band in Michigan, with nearly 275 students performing. More than 40% of the band’s students are also athletes, which is rare for a school of its size and population. Instead of making students choose between athletics and marching band, they limit their extra-curricular rehearsals so they can successfully participate in both.

There’s No Place Like Home

For its 2023 float entry, AHF and its Healthy Housing Foundation celebrate author Frank L. Baum’s iconic and beloved story, “The Wizard of Oz.” Since 2017, AHF through its housing foundation has been purchasing, restoring and re-populating single-room-occupancy hotels and other hotels and motels providing to date more than 1,400 rooms in Greater Los Angeles as permanent, affordable housing.

36. The Valley Hunt Club

The Valley Hunt Club sponsored the first Rose Parade in 1890 with horse-drawn carriages decorated with fresh flowers. The club’s president is honored by riding in the parade each year. The Valley Hunt Club honors the history of Pasadena and the Rose Parade by dressing in period attire as they make their way down the parade route in carriages drawn by Friesian horses.

City of Hope’s float features a beautifully decorated “Tree of Life” with extended branches and a swing in the heart-shaped center featuring a child’s bear with the Duarte “D,” symbolizing a partnership with the city of Duarte where City of Hope is located . Four animated butterflies – a monarch, California dogface, western tiger swallowtail and buckeye – populate the float in tandem with beautiful birds perched on a floral canopy – all symbols of hope and transformation. The butterfly wings come to life arrayed with black fine-ground onion seed, multiple colors of yellow fine-cut strawflower, white fine-ground rice; bronze, orange, light orange, red and pale yellow fine-cut strawflower, light blue fine-cut statice, brown coffee and tan walnut shells.

The 1st Cavalry Horse Cavalry Detachment is a platoon-size element with the most elite soldiers. The unit is made up of U.S. Army-owned quarter horses that come matched in size and color – brown to dark brown. This will be the 18th appearance for the 1st Cavalry Division Horse Cavalry Detachment.

Rose Bowl America’s Stadium 100

Designed by renowned architect Myron Hunt , the Rose Bowl’s storied past is celebrated with this float. It’s a history that includes five NFL Super Bowls and four BCS National College Football championship games during the past century. The stadium’s walls were created using dark gray lettuce seed and shiny light gray silverleaf, and that’s game-ready sod at the front.

Former Oregon and Penn State coach Hugo Bezdek, recently retired Rose Bowl Stadium CEO Darryl Dunn , 1977 Rose Bowl Game MVP Vince Evans and 1987 All-American Lorenzo White will be inducted into the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame as the Class of 2022.

Sustainable Almond Farming that Nourishes Families

A rollercoaster, a spinning Ferris wheel and friendly pollinators set the stage for fun on the Blue Diamond Growers float which celebrates the arrival of spring, the upcoming almond bloom and almond products. The bee riders are decorated with seeds, spices, beans, flower petals, seaweed and button mums. The float will have more than 10,000 pink and orange roses along with gladiolas, lilies, delphinium and orchids.

Founded in 2004, the Triuggio Marching Band was one of the first marching bands in Italy. The goal of the group is to continually improve both musically and as people. They believe in the education of their members by staying connected and inviting instructors from Great Britain and the Netherlands. Members are teenagers and young adults who are deeply motivated by the spirit of fellowship, friendship and performing together. Their repertoire includes pop songs, rock songs, movie soundtracks and classical pieces.

The float also features inner tubing, a bird watcher and a hiker among others. The rushing water at the center of the float is composed of more than 14,000 blue and white irises.

Secondhand Shenanigans

Celebrating its 44th year as a parade participant, the all-volunteer La Cañada Flintridge Tournament of Roses Association explores the theme that life comes at us fast, with each chapter turning a corner. This family of playful racoons are covered in a mix of buffalo grass, raw cotton and Fat Choi (a specialty type of seaweed). More than 30,000 flowers adorn the float. Be sure to check out the back of the entry, where you’ll find a “stone” wall built with thousands of potatoes.

51. Spartan “Legion” Marching Band

Norfolk, Va.

The Spartan “Legion” Marching Band’s uniforms are reminiscent of the legendary 300 Spartan warriors, including a protective guard auxiliary unit and shiny gold helmets, and the drum major helmets are replicas from the original Spartan warrior design. The band’s recognizable music selections will sound mighty and balanced, boasting a huge brass sound and driving percussion that utilizes three marching styles: the glide step, the 45-degree leg lift and the 90-degree leg lift.

52. Los Hermanos Bañuelos Charro Team

The Los Hermanos Bañuelos charro team was founded in 1995 by a group of brothers and friends in the San Gabriel Valley from the state of Zacatecas, Mexico. The riders wear authentic, custom-made charro suits accompanied with their custom “HB” logo. The team’s first invitation to the Rose Parade was in 2006, and since then they have participated in 13 parades and 14 Equestfests. Los Hermanos Bañuelos members are proud of their culture and heritage and enjoy sharing it with their fans.

53. Louisiana Travel float and mid-parade performance

Feed Your Soul

After last year’s French Quarter-themed float, the Louisiana Office of Tourism returns with another of the state’s icons – a flower-covered riverboat sailing down, not the mighty Mississippi, but in this case, Colorado Boulevard. Crewing the paddle-wheeler, which cost $350,000 to create, will be 20 Louisiana pageant winners, including the Gueydan Duck Festival queen and the Breaux Bridge Crawfish queen. The mid-parade performance will feature Laine Hardy, season 17 winner of “American Idol,” and the New Orleans-based Hot 8 Brass Band performing “Born on the Bayou.”

54. Vista Ridge High School Ranger Marching Band

Cedar Park, Texas

Vista Ridge was the Bands of America finalist, selected from the Grand Nationals competition to perform in the 2023 Rose Parade. Members of the marching band are All-Region band students, All-State band and orchestra students, and First Division soloists. These students are also Ridge Scholars, top of their class, National Merit finalists, State Science Fair award winners and National Honors Society students.

Elks Investing in Our Communities

At the center of the 2023 float from the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America is the noble creature that is the symbol of the order. While the elk is a peaceful animal, it will rise in defense of its own in the face of a threat. Placed on a floral carpet celebrating the new year, the elk is surrounded by shields detailing the commitment of Elks USA to youth (Elks Hoop Shoot), American military service (Elks National Veterans Service Commission) and education (Elks National Foundation Scholarship Programs).

The International Andalusian and Lusitano Horse Association is a culturally diverse group that represents traditional and modern uses of the majestic Andalusian and Lusitano breeds. The mission of this unit is to preserve and promote the Andalusian (originally from Spain) and Lusitanos (originally from Portugal) by showcasing the breeds’ amazing beauty, athleticism, diversity and heritage.

The Embodiment of Nature

Torrance’s float features the lifecycle of the Monarch butterfly from caterpillar and chrysalis to fully formed glorious adults which feed on milkweed and migrate from California to Mexico. Torrance has participated in 65 Rose Parades since 1914 when Jared Sidney Torrance, the city’s founder , entered the first float to promote the young community.

The Marching Dutch band was established in 1937 as an all-inclusive school band with a tradition of excellence that spans more than 80 years. Their innovative show designs, excellent musical command and outstanding marching technique have earned the band numerous first place awards. The Marching Dutch maintain a generational tradition of excellence since students in the current ensemble have parents and grandparents who have marched in this band. Their historic tradition is second to none in Iowa, with the band finishing first or second in every competition since 1978.

Spark of Imagination

With parade entries dating to 1893, South Pasadena’s 2023 float depicts the “Spark of Imagination” that every child has when creating a school science fair project but with a twist – these project creators are mice. The first place winner of the Science Fair has created a project designed to capture his competition. To save money and involve the community, volunteers collected materials to decorate the float including eucalyptus, melaleuca and sycamore bark, sycamore and liquid amber leaves, and bougainvillea flowers. The float also features 14 different rose varieties: Freespirit, Blush, Orange Crush, Stiletto, Star 2000, Britton, Atomic, Showbiz, Voodoo, Hot Expression, Royal Explorer, Nina, Hard Rock and Full Monty.

The Budweiser Clydesdales have been the symbol of Anheuser-Busch for more than 75 years. Traveling thousands of miles each year, the Clydesdales have made hundreds of appearances throughout North America, and occasionally overseas.

The building association kicks off its 2023 centennial celebration with a float designed to share its vision for the future of home building. Designed by youngsters aged 10 to 15 in the Junior Builders program, this vibrant float colorfully illustrates the past, present and future of housing for all, while protecting our environment and natural resources. The young lady at the center of the float holds on to the American Dream of one day owning her own home, while watching it come to life from the blueprints on which she’s happily resting.

The New Buffalo Soldiers represent the 10th Regiment, Company H of the U.S. Cavalry, and was organized in 1992 as a historical interpretation group. The group researches the history of military participation of Black Americans with a goal of portraying an accurate recreation of the lives of the Buffalo Soldiers who participated in the U.S. Army during the post-Civil War period.

Bridging the World Through Service

A parade participant since 1948, the world’s largest service organization returns with a message that says with everyone working together, the impossible becomes possible. Each of the three ornate bridges are decorated using different materials, including red ti leaves and red fine-cut strawflower, light blue fine-cut statice and, for the stone bridge, white fine-ground rice, light gray light lettuce and dark gray poppy seed.

64. Taipei First Girls High School Marching Band, Honor Guard and Color Guard

Taipei, Taiwan, Republic of China

Established in 1959, the Taipei First Girls High School Marching Band includes 45 honor guards, 10 color guards and 15 assistant teachers. To remain in the band, all members must maintain high academic grades resulting in a 98% admission rate to four-year colleges. The late band director was Master H.F. Bee, who directed the band for almost 50 years and led the band to the Rose Parade in 1996 and 2005. Under new leadership, the marching band continues to compete nationally in Taiwan and to win top honors.

A beautiful and colorful honeycomb arch and honeybees foraging nectar and pollen from a wildflower garden are showcased in Downey’s 2023 float designed to highlight the importance of the pollinators and possibly inspire people to become backyard beekeepers. Honeybees pollinate agricultural crops around the world, and about one third of the human diet requires pollinated crops. The front and back of the float are framed with four large purple Catmint flowers. Growing among the catmint and honeycomb are wild strawberry vines with beautiful ripe strawberries. Gardens of roses, orchids, tulips and other beautiful flowers will be used to create a colorful float deck. The honeycomb structure will be a floral tapestry including roses, orchids, protea and citrus fruits.

66. Scripps Miramar Ranch

Scripps Miramar Ranch invites you to step back in time when knights in shining armor wooed their fair ladies. Riding atop Pinto American Saddlebreds, riders are dressed for a pageant in long-sleeved medieval velvet robes with many of them wearing crowns. Scripps Miramar Ranch makes sure their horses can handle all the sights and sounds of the parade, often playing music by John Philip Sousa to the horses in the barn to accustom them to marching bands.

Protecting the Wild

Celebrating its 60th anniversary, “Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom” is launching a new wildlife series in January that pays tribute to conservation success stories. Two bear cub brothers – with bodies of black hyacinth root and black and light gray buffalo grass – are joined by several furry neighbors in their Pacific Northwest home. The heads of the bear cubs and the howling wolf are animated, and water flows below the wolf into an area where a beaver is positioned.

68. The Salvation Army Tournament of Roses Band

The Salvation Army Tournament of Roses Band celebrated its 100th march down Colorado Boulevard as they participated in the 2019 Rose Parade. They will once again have a “band within a band” as a special guest ensemble will join them. With their marching Timbrellists and uplifting music, parade spectators can expect to see them entertaining along the parade route. Salvation Army music ministries provide participants with a lifetime of fulfillment through musical excellence with spiritual purpose.

Launching Our Future Generation

In its first ever Rose Parade float, BAZIC Products presents a rocket ship launching into space to represent the importance of education as a starting point for future generations and a better society. The office and school supply company’s float will feature some 10,000 roses, thousands of blooms and petals as well as other natural components including lentils, split peas, corn meal, coffee, cranberry seeds, seaweed and poppy seeds.

70. Pasadena City College Tournament of Roses Honor Band

The Pasadena City College Tournament of Roses Honor Band has marched in every Rose Parade since 1930. Members are current PCC Lancer Marching Band members and select auditioned high school students from throughout Southern California. More than 400 high school music students auditioned for the 185 spots in the band. The PCC Lancer Band performs for the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Royal Court announcement ceremony, the Pasadena Latino Heritage Parade and the Pasadena Black History Parade.

Lifting Each Other Up

The Donate Life float promotes saving and healing lives through organ, eye and tissue donation. Festooned with some 40,000 flowers, the 2023 entry features an Asian street dragon which will be adorned with memorial floral portraits honoring donors. At the center of the float, the dragon’s body weaves in and out of lanterns, stylized fans and floral displays. Eighteen organ, eye and tissue recipients will be seated at various points on the float, and eight living donors will support the dragon with bamboo poles. At the back of the float, a traditional paifang arch carries a message in Mandarin, highlighting the importance of saying “YES” to organ, eye and tissue donation.

Veracruz, Mexico

Buhos Marching Band is proud of its choreography and versatility in melodies. They play national and international music, combined with popular and traditional music, creating an atmosphere that emanates the joy and emotion of Mexican culture. Established in 1999 as part of Escuela Secundaría Técnica No. 3, more than 250 musicians and dancers make up the Buhos Marching Band.

73. Norco Cowgirls Rodeo Drill Team

The Norco Cowgirls Rodeo Drill Team – from “Horsetown, USA” – was founded in 2008 and has become known as a rodeo specialty act performing dangerous, precision maneuvers at a gallop. The team consists of 12 horsewomen riding American Paint and American quarter horses. The team thrives on their ability to work together and build trust between horse, rider and teammates.

Enjoy Illinois

Enjoy Illinois, the state’s Office of Tourism, offers up sights of Chicago and the state as being “The Middle of Everything” with a float featuring the Scripps Tower and the John Hancock Center, a bronze lion from the Museum of Natural History, a Ferris wheel from Navy Pier, the Cloud Gate sculpture (a.k.a The Bean) in Millennium Park, and a bust of Abraham Lincoln, representing the former president’s museum and Lincoln Park.

Serving with Imagination and Hope

White fine-ground rice, with shadings of light gray light lettuce seed, were used to decorate the carousel horse that’s the focus of this latest float from the service organization – a 43-year parade veteran. The tall pillar, which is 20 feet 6 inches, is topped with white pampas grass, and has a center center of green deflexis, green Komondor fern, hot pink and pink roses.

Gifu, Japan

Japan’s Honor Green Band is a composite brass band with members selected from students in and around Gifu, Japan. Most of this year’s band members are college students, with a few high schoolers. The band was established in 1998 at Sendai in the Tohoku region of Japan and promotes increasing green plants on our planet. Its members travel overseas to perform and hold the “Green Concert.”

Another one of the many entries in this year’s parade marking an anniversary, this float from Shriners Children’s honors the organization’s first hospital, which opened in Shreveport, Louisiana, in September 1922 – and the subsequent century of quality pediatric specialty healthcare, regardless of any family’s ability to pay for the services.

A New Day with Jesus

The parade’s only Christian-inspired float was created thanks to the efforts of more than 5,000 volunteers from across the U.S. and Canada. The self-funded project features red large kidney beans, yellow fine-cut strawflower and crème coconut in the welcome sign, and a bright happy-face sun made with yellow whole carnations and rays of yellow and light beau mums.

79. LAUSD All District High School Honor Band

The LAUSD All District High School Honor Band has been participating in the Rose Parade since 1973. Throughout the years, the band has performed in a variety of events across the greater Los Angeles area including NFL Super Bowls and Major League Baseball World Series. Band Directors Tony White and Art Duardo and their staff will work with more than 300 students from about 75 high schools for their 50th Rose Parade performance.

Papa’s Turn

The Sierra Madre Rose Float Association, making its 91st Rose Parade appearance, has enjoyed a remarkable recent success – earning 15 awards in the past 16 years. This time around, in a whimsical and charming ode to a day in the park, papa bear is decorated in combed palm bark and palm fiber with facial accents in nigella seed (commonly called black carroway). His scooter is covered in silver leaf and ground rice and nigella.

81. Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Mounted Enforcement Detail

Specially trained sworn personnel comprise the Riverside County Sheriff’s Mounted Enforcement Detail, established in 2021. Their mission is to assist and complement the Sheriff’s Department in serving the community and supporting civic activities including charity events, tactical rescues, memorial and honor deployments, and educational events. The unit includes a variety of traditional American equine breeds.

Snapchat, the multimedia smartphone app that enables users to easily share photo and video content, joins the Rose Parade for the first time in 2023. The Snapchat float highlights six of the platform’s augmented reality lenses, which along with other useful features, encourage self-expression, learning, play, creativity and spontaneity, leading to more meaningful conversations as users connect with friends, family and the world.

83. Fresno State Bulldog Marching Band

The Bulldog Marching Band is a performance and entertainment ensemble that is a vital part of Fresno State, Fresno State Athletics and California’s Central Valley. The Bulldogs represent the state of California as the largest college marching band of its kind, having been recognized by the College Band Directors National Association as one of the top eight college marching bands in the country.

NASCAR’s 75th anniversary meets the Coliseum’s 100th in this entry that spotlights the 2023 Busch Light Clash, happening Feb. 5, at the landmark venue that has hosted two Olympic opening and closing ceremonies and will be home to the closing ceremony for the 2028 Games. The float’s Coliseum façade is decorated with light and dark sesame seed Green Tea leaves for the cauldron, and the flame is created with red, orange and yellow carnation petals.

With the 2023 Rose Parade nearly over, the spotlight shifts to the Rose Bowl and the football game – “The Granddaddy of Them All” and its illustrious history – between Penn State and the University of Utah.

The Heart and Soul of Family Entertainment

Marking the 30th anniversary of The Mansion Theatre for the Performing Arts in Branson, Mo., this beautiful floral display will be incorporated into the parade’s grand finale, featuring Grammy winner Tanya Tucker performing her single, “Ready as I’ll Never Be,” joined by Pasadena’s First AME Praise Team choir. The mansion is adorned with ground rice, macaroon coconut, white beans, pumpkin seeds, poppy seed and seaweed; the horses are decorated using coffee, cinnamon and paprika.
