'85-'94 Ski-doo Safaris

  • Add to quote

I was just wondering about the Ski-Doo Safaris. I wanted to know if they are good motor, good gas mileage, good performance, and basically maintenance-free. I was wondering what the a good price would be for an '85-'94 safari. It dosnt matter what model of safari it is, as long as the 377 motor has twin carbs. Thats a must. If someone could tell me what year and model of safaris had the twin carbs and what the top speed would be of this sled it would be great. SWRules

Safaris can be had here around Barrie, Ontario for about $500. bucks or less. I'm talking about the 377's that are single carb, I'm not sure if the the 477's had twins or not but they are pretty much not worth anything around here unless you ice fish. Leaf springs and ziltch for suspension are there biggest downfall. I have a 85 safari right now that I have had since new and this sled had never let me down during the years I did ride it and I rode the snot out of it. It will go forever on a tank of gas, the only thing it cost me was a new starter rope and thats it. I do know the Citation SS had the same motor pretty much with the twin carbs and were a hoot in there time but these sleds are really outdated.

We sold our 93 377 Safari Deluxe this year. It was a twin carb and never let us down. It would run 80-85 flat out on a hard surface. It was a good beginner sled for my son who was 12 when we picked it up. It sold for 2000 with 3800 km on it and barely a scratch. It was always serviced and it showed. It rode good and handled OK on good trails. It wasn't much at off trail riding. It was very easy on gas. For a beginer sled or to tool around the farm it is great. For aggressive trail riding, no way. Mind you that big windshield kept you as warm as could be.

what year was yours BARRIEMACHZ?

My uncle has an 88 377 and the only thing he has had to change in almost 15 years now is a track. the sled still starts on first pull everytime. it is still fast enough to keep up with alot of the new sleds. he still loves it. it has about 25,000 k on it . he dosen't do any road riding or he dosen't ride in low snow conditions. guess that is why he has never changed Hi-Fax.

Fuzzy: Does it have 2 carbs? Electric Start, hand/thumb warmers? Speedo? Tach? How fast has he had it going? Ok thanks.

FREEZERBURNT: How was the Scout E on gas? What colour was it? Good performance??

Yellow but mine was painted black by previous owner :hallo1: Some Safaries are black, some are yellow and some are burgundy Its a 377 so it runs great for a 377 it will do 100kmph They are good on gas

One carb has a spedo no tach ,electric start or any other options like that.. track is a 118 or a 121 X 16 1/2 " don't know what spped he has had it at. it was a fast skidoo in it's day. the same cc cats and poos couldn't look at in speed or deep snow. he is thinking about getting a Gade next year so his son can use the 377. forgot to mention gas milage was excelent. before I got my sks I had a tundra and I would bunr two tanks of gas to his one. he gets about 15-17 MPG Click to expand...

How much would it cost for someone to put a second carb on say a '89 Safari 377?

Would it increase the power much? faster accelaration and top speed?

Got a 89 safari cheyenne 503 Long track, just did the first rebuild after 20000 km. A part from the susp which is a real POS, it is a great work sled ,not for trails though. Top speed was 95 kph.

1988 Skidoo safari voyager

ski doo safari voyager

  • Add to quote

Hi all, my buddy just picked up a 1988 skidoo safari voyager? Not sure if thats the correct name for it but hopefully someone knows what im taking about. He asked me to do some work on it. It hasnt run in 8 years but started first pull. My plan is to clean the carbs and redo the fuel system, change plugs and oil. When i was over, i tried to get it to move and it would rev up and move a couple feet then stop. I got it on the snow and the same problem happened. Could redoing the fuel system, cleaning the carbs and changing the belt to a new one solve that problem? I lifted up the track and gave it full throttle and the track spun freely like it should. Seems like whenever there is resistance it doesnt want to move. Any ideas outside of what i mentioned?

It probably fouled a plug. Do what you said above and give it a try.

Old Sled Sighting—1989 Ski Doo Safari

A vintage ad for this sled stated: "Would be a great sled . . . for an old guy to go ice fishing or to the beer store."

— October 06, 2016

A pristine condition 1989 Ski Doo Safari snowmobile.

I found this little lightweight 1989 Ski Doo Safari sitting on the side of the highway with a for sale sign hung on it. It was in pristine condition.   The hand written for sale sign attached to one side stated, "Great lightweight Ski-Doo, great for kids or adults—very low hours, otto (sic) mixing oil and gas, with a wide ski stance. Only $250."

As one aftermarket part distributor says, "The Safari was designed by Ski Doo to be an entry level adventure trail snowmobile. These snowmobiles are great for families. Less experienced riders will not be overwhelmed, but it is still a dependable and fun sled. With different options, the Safari provided a sled for just about anyone who was looking for a good trail sled."

Or as another ad for a 1989 Ski Doo Safari read, " Would be a great sled for kids, wife or girlfriend to putt around on, or for an old guy to go ice fishing or to the beer store."

I couldn't help but be impressed with this little, lightweight, slightly-used Ski Doo—I can only hope it goes to a good home.

Will your dealer run the locator for you?

I tried a few dealers with no luck and also checked on the web. Any ideas on what to try next?

ski doo safari voyager

are you talking about the carb boot? If so try Royal Distributing.com Welcome to Dootalk!!

I tried royal distributing.com and they didn' t have my 89 ski doo safari voyageur on there. But they did have other safaris on there. Any other suggestions?

Just call them............I bet some of the other models are the same even if yours isn't listed. They will let you know. Also try posting this in the Vintage section, some of those guys will let you know.

We'll do and thanks for the help!

ski doo safari voyager

it should use the same boot as a Touring SLE

1988 skidoo safari 377

im thinkin about buying a skidoo safari for 100 bucks what kinda mods can u do to a fan cooled 377cc skidoo safari and does ne one know where i can get a decent hood for cheap

ski doo safari voyager

I see lots of safari hoods on Craigslist, for some reason. Any ways,i have a '90 safari, and there isn't much you can do to such a small sled. THe seat seems especially long to me, and the windshield is HUGE(easy to crack, i would know. Why i don't have one). Good beater

ik u cant kill them safaris this sled used to be mine i sold it them im gonna buy it back i used to jump everything and go through like 7 feet of snow without getting stuck i just thought it would be a kinda cool old sled to restore and mess around with on craigslist what are the price ranges go from for the hoods

i dont think it will fit i think its a safari saga the cowels a bit taller

ok. Yah, never heard of them. good luck! I guess there's always the normal stuff- handguards, skis, fishbones, risers, mountain bar, hooks. I dont know about clutching, might not be worth it on that sled.

I learned on one of them mine was an 86" couldn't kill it there really reliable we used ares for ice fishing light and easy to manuever fun sleds

ski doo safari voyager

My old man had a 1988 377 Safari and it melted a piston with about 3200 kilometers on it. Pretty gutless sleds but great for beginner riders! Cheers
