Bandar Lampung is the capital and the largest city of the Indonesian province of Lampung, located on the southern tip of Sumatra Island. Bandar Lampung initially was called Telukbetung. After the Japanese occupation during World War 2, Telukbetung and the neighbouring city of Tanjungkarang were merged and renamed Tanjungkarang-Telukbetung, and eventually renamed again to Bandar Lampung. It's close vicinity to the capital also ensured the city's economic progress. The transmigration of people to Bandar Lampung from Jakarta to ease population stress resulted in its unique culture, history, and tradition. It is also connected to many other day-trip and weekend getaway destinations.

Lampung Museum, a two-storeyed brick-red building, was founded in 1975 as a form of repository for the rich cultural history of Lampung. It is located at a 15 minutes drive from Bandar Lampung and provides visitors with a long glance at the vast historical records amassed over the years. These records are in the form of prehistoric artefacts, cultural relics, antique ceramics and even flaura and flora.

In total, these recrods account to 4200 items which are then divided into 10 categories namely fine arts, ethnography, biology, geography, history and so on. The ethnographic section is the largest with 2000 items secured on the second floor including household items such as traditional musical instruments, fabrics, equipment, accessories and rituals from ethnic groups Pepadun and Saibatin. Krakatau Monument Krakatau monument is a historical significance of the massive Krakatau eruption that took place in 1883. The monument got its name from the volcano which is located in the Sunda Strait between the islands of Java and Sumatra. The monument serves as a memorial to the 40,000 people who perished in the natural disaster, consisting of a large steel maritime buoy from the 19th century that was washed out of Teluk Lampung during the tidal wave. It is a must visit place if you are a retrophiliac and crazy about monuments. Museum Sang Bumi Ruwa Jurai Sang Bumi Ruwa Jurai museum is a beautiful depiction of artworks and amenities of Lampung since ancient times. The museum has collections of china ceramics, ancient siams, currencies and many more. Apart from these, the museum is also a storehouse of various ethnographic articles and archaeological finds. The museum is open on all days except on Monday and other national holidays.  Lembah Hijau Lembah Hijau is a recreational space covering an area of 30 hectares, located on Jalan Radin Imba Kesuma Ratu, Kampung Sukajadi of Bandar Lampung. the place offers a variety of activities for all age groups. It is a beautiful place covered with rolling hills, running streams and decorative valleys. Hijau has its own waterpark, football field, outbound activities, mini-train, fishing arena, ATV grounds, paintball and airsoft, a haunted house, 4-D theatre, and much more. Lembah Hijau also provides restaurants and even accommodations for those who want to stay and enjoy the situation longer. The entrance fee for visitors is Rp 10,000, whereas to enter the waterpark and water boom an additional charge of Rp 35,000 needs to be paid. Puncak Mas Puncak Mas is a gorgeous mountain pass located in the Bogor Raya region of Western Java. Initially it was a private area that belonged to Mr Thomas Aziz Riska, but lately, at the beginning of 2019, the area was functional as a public spot. Puncak mas is a well-loved destination for all the photography enthusiasts to store in all the greenery and beauty of the place in their cameras. The tourists can visit Puncak Mas from 8.00 a.m. till 10.00 pm. every day, while on weekends, it is open till 12.00 a.m. according to the WIB.

The entry fees for the same is Rp 20,000 per person. There are treehouses offering unique views from the top and in general, can accommodate around 15 people at a time. Apart from the treehouses, there are Gazebos, where the tourists can rest after long hours of sightseeing and enjoy the various spots of Puncak mas. It also has an outdoor cafe where one can take a rest while enjoying the delicious delicacies that are offered there. In addition to this, the entire area is decked up with lights and decorative articles, making it a lively place on weekends. There are arrangements made for live music, DJ nights and many more.

1. MUTUN BEACH

Located in Teluk Betung, Bandar Lampung, Mutun Beach is a family destination with various activities on offer. Visitors can enjoy relaxing on the beach or hire a banana boat for some more fun. As it is located near the city center, the beach is also a popular destination for local residents. Although it can get crowded, Mutun Beach has adequate facilities to make for a good vacation with family.

2. KRAKATAU

In 1883, Mount Krakatau erupted, leaving behind Mouth Anak Krakatau and several small islands around it. Mount Anak Krakatau is popular for hiking, giving visitors beautiful views from the top of the mountain. Below, there are also fun activities to try, including snorkeling at Cabe Lagoon.

3. WAY KAMBAS

The Way Kambas National Park is a great place to see elephants. Here, visitors can also enjoy a variety of activities, such as feeding elephants and playing with them. Not only that, visitors can also ride the elephants on a tour around Way Kambas, passing through uneven and sometimes rocky tracks and occasionally crossing a river.

4. PUGUNG RAHARJO ARCHEOLOGICAL PARK

Lampung also has an archeological site, called Pugung Raharjo Archeological Park. Since it was discovered in 1957, the site has been popular among visitors. In total there are seven punden berundak (shrine) that were once used to worship ancestors. Visitors are only allowed to see the punden berundak from the outside, without climbing to the top, because it is feared it could damage the buildings’ terraces.

5. PUNCAK MAS

Those who want to see Bandar Lampung from the top of a hill should go to Puncak Mas (Golden Peak). The best time to visit is in the afternoon or evening to enjoy the sunset and the glowing city lights. Visitors can also enjoying taking pictures in a tree house. For a more thrilling experience, there are also hot air balloon rides available.

6. PAHAWANG ISLAND

Pahawang Island is a haven for snorkeling lovers. Known as a clown fish conservation areas, here visitors can see Nemo in its natural habitat. Those who don’t want to snorkel can still see fish from the boat, just bring some breadcrumbs to attract the hungry fish.

7. MENARA SIGER

You can find the iconic building called Menara Siger (Siger Tower), which is on a hill near Bakauheni Harbor, its location is very strategic as a transit and tourist place. The beautiful yellow building is also the zero point of the Sumatra causeway, where Lampung is the gateway to Sumatra Island from the east. In the form of a yellow traditional Lampung bride’s crown, this place also regularly displays various types of activities and artistic performances. Due to the mass migration program set by the government meant to offload the rest of the country’s population to the lesser populated areas, Lampung, the country’s southernmost province which was affected by this policy, has soon become a settlement to heterogeneous cultures.

For this change, not only are the rest of Indonesians able to gain access to the lesser occupied areas of Sumatra, but it also paved way for the entry of human awareness to the archipelago’s previously uncharted areas.

Mount Krakatau

Kenkana Lepus Traditional House

One way to experience Lampung and have a glimpse of its colorful past is to pay a visit to a Kencana Lepus. The Kenkana Lepus is a traditional house on stilts that is rare in Lampung due to modernization. One of the most authentic left today is located in Jl. Diponegoro No. 56, in Sukadana Village, East Lampung Regency. The place is now serving as a museum in Lampung housing many important artifacts about the place.

How to get there : The house is located at Jalan Diponegoro no.56 in the Sukadana Village, Sukadana town, East Lampung Regency, right next to the Sukadana Village Office. You can reach the town in a 2 hours’ drive using a rented car or public bus.

Pura Jagad Dhita

One of the must-see places in Peniangan in Lampung Indonesia is the Balinese Village with Hindu temples found in almost all houses. This village is occupied by the migrants from Bali Indonesia.

 Kiluan Bay You might probably have seen dolphins do you amazing stunts in captivity. But have you seen dolphins living freely in the ocean? At Kiluan Bay, you would at the right seasons.

Within the walls of Raharjo Pugung Archeological Park is a cluster of phallic, stone megaliths. The place accidentally discovered in 1957. It is said that the place was forested and was not inhabited. They even thought at first that the forest was haunted. But in  1954, the transmigrants Pugung open the forest for settlements. While clearing the area,  the migrants found a large stone structure, a square-shaped mound of earth and stone statues of Princess Badhariah. The discovery was reported to the Department of Antiquities in Jakarta. In 1968  the initial research was made in the place and made a conclusion that the items found in the place were relics of megalithic Raharjo-classical. Archaeological Site of Pugung Raharjo

Another interesting site to visit in Lampung is the Pugung Raharjo which can be found at the regency of South Lampung, Lampung Province, Sumatra Indonesia. The place is approximately 50 km from Bandar, the capital of Lampung, Indonesia.

The site was uncovered in the 1950s when transmigrants from Java and Bali moved into the area and started to clear the jungle.

The place offers megalithic and prehistoric remains dating from the 12th to 16th century AD.

Pugung Raharjo was occupied from the 12th to 16th centuries. Some Buddhist and Hindu artifacts were also found at the place which includes ceramics from the Han Dynasty, Sung, and Ming, and a statue of Polynesia dated from the 6th century until the 15th century. The beads and porcelain found Ancient beads at the place indicated that the people of the area were also linked to international trade networks that visited the nearby Sunda Strait.

The site is now preserved as a national monument.

Ancient tools used by ancient humans in the form of large boulders were unearthed at the place You can see the upright stone or Menhir, Dolmen a table or a stone, gravestones which were used by prehistoric man as a place of worship, a place of deliberation, and place of burial.

El’s Coffee

For Coffee lovers, Els Coffee is a place to go. The place offers a wide array of gourmet coffee products made from locally grown coffee all over Indonesia. You should try their Thaitella which is made of espresso coffee served as ice cubes and drizzled with caramel. To make this you must pour fresh milk over the frozen espresso. As you sip this drink you will realize that your drink is getting stronger as the frozen espresso slowly blending with the milk.

COMMUNICATION | GETTING CONNECTED

The moment you arrived at Lampung, Indonesia, make sure to buy a local Sim Card to get you connected. Sim Cards are very easy to acquire in Indonesia and they usually come with a load.

Lampung just like in other places in Indonesia uses Indonesian Rupiah.

The current conversion of Indonesian Rupiah to US Dollar is 1 USD= 13,252.98 Ruphia. Yes, one will get an instant millionaire when you are in Indonesia.

Moneychangers are also available in Lampung but not as many when compared to other cities. So better change your USD immediately the moment you reach the airport. I also learned that most money changers in Lampung are closed during Sundays, but of course, if your bank can transact internationally you can always withdraw from the ATM Machines to get the needed Rupiah. I run out of Rupiah several times during my visit because I went shopping for Batik and souvenirs in the city but just withdraw easily from the ATM machine.

Not all souvenir shops, stores, and restaurants accept credit cards too. So it would be best to always have the cash in your wallet.

HOW TO GET TO LAMPUNG

By plane From Jakarta, you can reach Bandar the capital city of Lampung by plane through it’s from Jakarta through its airport, the Raden Intan II Airport. The travel time is approximately 40 minutes.

From Raden Intan II airport, you can take a prepaid taxi to Bandar Lampung city center. There is a taxi counter which lists the various destinations with the prepaid rates. Please see below about Gojek app as your best travel partner when visiting Indonesia.https://www.go-jek.com/

By train You can reach also Lampung by train especially if you are coming from Palembang. We did this during our last visit. If you would like to take the train in Indonesia, it would be best to get the ticket online and at least a few days in advance as the train is always full. Of course, I would recommend you to take the Business – Executive Class for comfort. The legroom is nice and you can relax while traveling. Some of the train companies are as follows:

Limex Sriwijaya, Business-Executive class train and offers comfortable accommodation. This train departs from Palembang daily at eight o’clock in the evening and goes back from Bandar Lampung at half-past four in the morning. The rate fluctuates depending on the season, so I suggest that you just check their site.

Serving the same route as Limex Sriwijaya is the Rajabasa. This train only offers Economy class. It departs from Kertapati Station and Tanjungkarang Station at the same time, both at half-past eight in the morning.

KRDI Way Umpu, this train connects Bandar Lampung with Kotabumi. It departs daily with air-conditioned cabins for Economy class.

KRDI Seminung, serving the same route as KRDI Way Umpu. However, it might be quite uncomfortable to take this train because their cabins are not air-conditioned. By bus Buses from Jakarta to Lampung are also available regularly and traveling time is about 7 hours. This trip includes getting a boat as well. But normally the fare includes the boat already. You can find the buses near the train station in Jakarta.

GETTING AROUND LAMPUNG

Getting around Lampung is easy and relatively inexpensive because it is a small city. Again the best way to do this is to have the GoJek app. With this app, you can request a car or the Ojek which is a motorcycle taxi (perfect for the solo traveler).

Soothing Breeze in the South of Sumatra

On Lampung Bay, 20 km south of the city center, visitors can enjoy the calm beach and the soft pearly white sand at the White sand Beach. Still in the Teluk Betung area, the Bumi Kedaton National Park features countryside ambience, complete with cool breeze, accompanied by the soothing sounds of the running river. If you wish to further explore the history of Lampung on your holiday, the Museum Sang Bumi Ruwa Jurai and the provincial Museum of Lampung offer centuries of collections and legacies of the province. The distinctive culture of Bandar Lampung is reflected through its buildings. At Kampung Ulok Gading and Kampung Kedamaian, the traditional houses of Lampung are presented, along with all the house wares, heirlooms and other traditional accessories.

Getting around in Bandar Lampung is easy and relatively inexpensive because it is a small city. Traveling between the 2 main areas, (Tanjungkarang to Teluk Betung) will only take about 30-40 minutes by car. If you wish to mingle with the locals, you can try to take a ride in the angkutan kota or angkot, that came with different designated routes for different areas and distinguished by different colors. When you are near your destination, don’t forget to ask the driver to stop at the left side, so you can get off. For more personal comforts, you can use taxis or ojek (motorbike taxi).

If you wish to learn more about Lampung , you can visit these sites where you can observe the authenticity and originality of Lampung’s traditional houses. The architecture of the houses, their furniture and decoration maintain the authenticity of Lampung’s culture. Bandar Lampung is accessible by air via the Radin Inten II international airport located at Branti Raya, South Lampung district.

The airport was initially built for domestic flights, but since 2008 the airport was officially declared as an international airport that can accommodate large airplanes such as Boeing 737-200, to Boeing 737-500, Airbus A320.

Bandar Lampung is fortunate to be one of only two major cities in Sumatra to have fully operating railway systems. The single route train connects Bandar Lampung with Palembang in South Sumatra. The Rajabasa bus terminal is the main public transportation center of the city. As one of the busiest terminals in Sumatra, the Rajabasa Terminal is the destination of inter-provincial buses from Jakarta and other cities in Java. The terminal also connects Bandar Lampung with other major cities on the island, such as Palembang, Medan, Pekanbaru and more.

1. Pantai Pasir Putih

Terletak sekitar 20 KM dari kota Bandar Lampung, Pantai Pasir Putih adalah salah satu tempat wisata di Lampung yang paling favorit karena dekat dengan ibukota, hanya membutuhkan waktu perjalanan sekitar 20 menit saja untuk dapat menikmati pantai yang menyegarkan mata ini.

Sesuai dengan namanya, pantai ini mempunyai pasir yang bewarna putih, dilengkapi dengan pepohonan yang melambai tertiup angin dan lautan yang bewarna biru. Tempat wisata ini juga merupakan tempat wisata akhir pekan favorit warga Bandar Lampung sehingga jangan kaget bila berkunjung pada akhir pekan dan mendapati keramaian.

2. Teluk Kiluan

Teluk Kiluan adalah salah satu tempat wisata di Lampung yang paling terkenal karena pengalaman unik yang ditawarkannya. Pengalaman seperti apa yang dapat kamu nikmati di Teluk Kiluan? Seperti di Pantai Lovina, Bali , Teluk Kiluan menawarkan pengalaman melihat lumba-lumba langsung di habitatnya.

Sensasi melihat lumba-lumba di lautan sangatlah berbeda dengan pada saat kamu melihat lumba-lumba yang telah dijinakan. Waktu terbaik untuk melihat lumba-lumba di Teluk Kiluan adalah pada bulan April hingga September di mana sedang musim kemarau. Saran saya, sebelum berangkat bertanyalah dahulu pada pengelola homestay mengenai cuaca dan keberadaan lumba-lumba, karena kemunculan lumba-lumba secara alami di Teluk Kiluan sangat dipengaruhi oleh cuaca.

3. Taman Nasional Way Kambas

Dari 30 hektar tersebut, 80%nya adalah areal alami dan sisanya adalah bangunan. Berlokasi sekitar 52 KM dari kota Bandar Lampung, Taman Purbakala Pugung Raharjo mempunyai koleksi peninggalan purbakala berupa kuburan batu, meja batu, altar batu, batu mayat, dan lain-lain. Wisata sejarah ini memang kurang begitu diminati oleh anak muda jaman sekarang, namun tidak ada salahnya mencoba jenis wisata ini supaya tidak bosan.

mohon keamanannya ditingkatkan pernah kami ke Bandarlampung tahun 2013 lalu. Bukan main mengganggunya suasana ketika keluar dermaga pelabuhan Bakauni para calo kendaraan yang memaksa orang dalam menawarkan kendaraannya. akhirnya kami dapat naik dengan terpaksa kendaraan bus jurusan Bakauni-Metro, dan terpaksa kami minta turun dan diturunkan di Panjang. Begitu juga di Panjang suasana yang kurang sedap terjadi mungkin para calopun melihat kerepotan kami bawa anak kecil kelihatan kerepotan kami tersebutlah dimanfaatkan para calo kendaraan kecil-kecil yang tarik sana tarik sini tidak ada rasa kasihannya, akhirnya naiklah saya kekendaraan kecil jurusan Panjang Sukadana. Agak tenanglah kami dapat sopir yang ramah, dan slamat turun di Berhen Tanjungbintang.

kalau ke Lampung lebih baik naik mobil BIS langsung yang turun di pull-nya misalnya rosalia, putra remaja damri, puspa jaya dll.. lebih aman ketimbang naik mobil putus-putus. terlalu banyak calo itulah yang membuat orang malas jalan-jalan ngeteng ke Lampung.. hati-hati ya…

These WNC locations are among the 25 best in NC: Here's what Travel + Leisure says

A list of 25 best places to visit in North Carolina from Travel + Leisure included several Western N.C. favorites including Asheville itself.

Travel media website Travel + Leisure publishes travel guides, lists of suggestions and more - and it's not the first time the website has praised WNC locations . A new list of 25 travel recommendations in the Tar Heel State ranges from entire cities to museums to national forests and beyond.

Here are the WNC locations that made it onto Travel + Leisure's list, plus the rest of its suggestions.

Best places to visit in WNC

The locations included on the list located in WNC were:

No. 1 - Biltmore Estate

No. 4 - Pisgah National Forest

No. 5 - Asheville

No. 6 - Brevard

No. 13 - Blue Ridge Parkway

No. 14 - Linville Falls in the Blue Ridge Mountains

Here's what Travel + Leisure writers said about each.

Biltmore Estate

In first place on the list, the Biltmore Estate was called "one of the most beautiful and iconic homes in the country" by Travel + Leisure writers. The estate receives millions of visitors yearly, but writers said it's "worth braving the crowds."

Tour the luxurious architecture of the home.

Visit nearby Antler Hill Village for dining, shopping, additional exhibits, and even a winery.

River activities like kayaking and paddling.

Scenic hiking areas to top sites like Looking Glass Falls, Cove Creek Falls and Moore Cove Falls.

Blue Ridge Parkway

Though the parkway is about 600 miles in length, Travel + Leisure writers gave the area broader praise. The versatility of choices, from an hour drive to view the parkway's flora and fauna to a multiday road trip, the N.C. section of the parkway alone can be whatever travelers are looking for.

In particular, the list entry praised the Blue Ridge Music Center's celebration of regional folk music traditions through seasonal performances.

Linville Falls in the Blue Ridge Mountains

Writers appreciated the multi-tiered cascade that is Linville Falls for its five different vantage points for viewing with various skill levels required - the easiest being only a 20-minute walk from the parking area. The area's campground was also praised.

When it comes to long-haul business trips , I've searched far and wide for an elegant pair of travel pants that is comfortable so that if I run into a colleague on the plane or bump into them in the lobby during check-in, I'm not giving off the wrong first impression. But alas, it's not as easy to find styles that strike that magic combination as one may think. 

After years of experimenting with joggers that lost their elasticity upon first cycle through the washing machine, cute sweatpants that proved way too warm mid-flight, and travel sets I didn’t realize were itchy until I was moving around in my seat 30,000 feet in the air, I finally found a perfect pair: the tapered and effortlessly stylish Aether Eloise Travel Slim Pants .

The outdoor clothing apparel company offers two styles of travel pants ( wide-leg and slim-fit), which are both crafted from recycled stretch fabric that’s moisture-wicking.
