14 Classic Science Fiction Ships Recreated In Starfield

  • Tips & Guides
  • Entertainment

jalopnik

Grab that sci-fi slogan you’ve long embedded into your vocabulary, it’s time to hit the stars with these classic vessels

Firefly's Serenity flies in Starfield.

Starfield lets you take the controls of massive starships to both cruise the cosmos and blast hostile spacefarers into smithereens. It also has a pretty snappy, powerful ship-building feature, so you can come up with your own ship designs or, if you’re so inclined, recreate some of science fiction’s most legendary vessels.

Here we’ve rounded up 14 of the coolest spaceships fans have recreated so far, including vessels from Battlestar Galactica , Star Wars , and that damn Joss Whedon show with the undying fanbase.

Battlestar Galactica ’s Battlestar Galactica

A remake of the Battlestar Galactica sits in Starfield's ship builder.

Starfield ’s ship builder skews more toward blocky designs, making ships with smoother curves a little harder to recreate. But that didn’t stop VRboi69420 from cranking out a solid Galactica build based on the 2003 Battlestar Galactica remake. At least you won’t have to worry about frakin’ Cylons invading this one.

Firefly ’s Serenity

A remake of Serenity from Firefly flies through space in Starfield.

Ni Hao! Sorry, but there’ll never be a gorram season two of Firefly , and that one somewhat good-looking video game adaptation that recorded lines from the show’s cast is probably never happening ( check out Rebel Galaxy Outlaw instead ). But Firefly fans gotta keep flying. Reddit user neok182 built a very faithful tribute to the ill-fated space western by way of a Serenity build. We hope they aim to misbehave.

Star Wars Consular-Class Space Cruiser

A remake of a starship from Star Wars flies through Starfield.

DaMightyMilkman put together their own, remarkably faithful-looking recreation of a classic Star Wars ship: a Consular-Class Space Cruiser. These first appeared in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace .

Talespin ’s Sea Duck

A remake of the Sea Duck from Talespin sits in Starfield's ship builder.

Okay this technically isn’t science fiction, but it’s still pretty cool looking. While you can’t recruit Baloo or other furry friends in Starfield , Reddit user okamishojo did the next best thing : Rebuilding the show’s “Sea Duck” vessel in Starfield , fittingly renamed “Space Duck.”

Halo ’s UNSC Pelican

A remake of the Pelican from Halo sits in Starfield's ship builder.

In Starfield you certainly will need a weapon, but if you also need a Pelican, check out SteamingHotDataDump’s Pelican picture guide over on Reddit. Just keep it away from any particularly nasty parasitic life forms while you’re out there.

Star Trek ’s USS Enterprise

SP7R put together a great tutorial video on how to make your own USS Enterprise in Starfield . What they can’t help you with are any instances of extra-dimensional beings just showing up to mess with your day.

The Mandalorian ’s Razor Crest

A remake of the Razor Crest from The Mandalorian sits in Starfield's ship builder.

While the Mantis might be one of the best bounty hunter ships in Starfield , AlanaSP has built an excellent remake of this hunter-worthy Star Wars vessel fit for traversing an entirely different galaxy.

Star Trek ’s U.C.S. Voyager

A remake of the Voyager from Star Trek flies in Starfield.

Hailing from what’s perhaps my second favorite Star Trek series, GrungeCowboy73’s recreation of Voyager ’s main ship looks like the perfect place for a woman to begin her transition .

The Expanse ’s Rocinante

A remake of The Expanse's Rocinante flies through Starfield.

Reddit user Lexafer created a pretty snazzy lookin’ version of The Expanse ’s Rocinante as envisioned in the TV adaptation of the novels. And whether you identify as an Earther, Belter, or hail from elsewhere, at least you don’t have to steal this one from the Martian marines.

Knights of the Old Republic ’s Ebon Hawk

A remake of the Ebon Hawk from KOTOR sits in Starfield's ship builder.

While that KotOR remake languishes in uncertainty , why not consider building your own Ebon Hawk right here in Starfield ? Reddit user Scary_Xenomorph created a fitting tribute to the legendary sci-fi RPG with their version of the classic ship.

Star Trek ’s Klingon Bird of Prey

A remake of a Klingon Bird of Prey sits in Starfield's ship builder.

Qapla`! GrungeCowBoy73 also created a Bird of Prey from Star Trek , perfect for those pre-dog fight moments where you simply must exclaim that today is, in fact, a good day to die.

Battlestar Galactica ’s Viper Mark III

A remake of the Viper III from Battlestar Glactica sits in Starfield's ship creator.

Perfect for roleplaying a solo daredevil, DoomWZ’s Viper Mark III sure is a looker . Hopefully it won’t fly you into any strange, series-wrecking plot twists.

Cowboy Bebop ’s Swordfish II

YouTuber chatsubo_dude whipped together a solid interpretation of the Swordfish II , Spike Spiegel’s red spaceship from Cowboy Bebop . Following their guide, I put it together—though I’ve called mine “Swordfish I” since it’s not totally complete—and can confidently say this has become the best ship I own. It’s fast, light, has lots of health and shields, and can dish out some serious damage while holding quite a bit of cargo. It’s a dope ship that’s become even better with chatsubo_dude’s upgraded model . So, remember the first rule of combat: Shoot them before they shoot you. See you, Space Cowboy. — Levi Winslow

Star Wars ’ Millennium Falcon

A remake of the Millennium Falcon sits in Starfield's ship builder.

I’m not sure how many parsecs this thing is capable of, but Krunkstep77 took a few stabs at recreating the iconic Star Wars ship and the results are pretty sweet.

And that’s it for our roundup of sci-fi classic ship builds in Starfield . Have you seen any other cool ones, or better yet, built some of your own?

Refreshing a Ship Vendor's Inventory

Ship Technician.png

Note: Refreshing inventory does not mean it will change their stock completely. It is possible for everything to change, or for only one item to change.

You can also reset a ship vendor's inventory by skipping time. First, you will need to travel to Venus in the Sol star system and sleep for 24 Local Hours on your ship. Then, go back to a ship vendor and check his inventory.

This method works the best since 1 Hour on Venus is equal to 100 Hours in Universal Time . Sleeping there ensures you skipped enough time to reset every known ship vendor in the game.

Todd Howard Reveals How Starfield Lore Was Created

Starfield's no man's sky comparison is only going to become more apt with time, starfield fan shows off their relaxing 'beach bum' outpost.

  • Starfield players continue to impress with their engineering skills, this time constructing a Star Trek-inspired spacecraft.
  • The ship incorporates design elements from iconic iterations of the USS Enterprise and other Star Trek vessels.
  • Despite limitations on ship modules, the vessel is impressive and falls within the B reactor class.

One Starfield player has managed to build a vessel inspired by some iconic heavy cruiser ships from Star Trek . They later went online to share their feat of engineering, adding to the already sizable pile of impressive spacecraft that Starfield players have built to date.

Between Starfield 's elaborate shipbuilding mechanics and hard sci-fi setting, Bethesda's galaxy-spanning RPG provides the perfect framework for would-be engineers to realize their most ambitious spacecraft ideas. Many players have been doing just that ever since the game entered early access at the start of September, authoring everything from Starfield replicas of classic cars to more conventional—but no less impressive—spaceships.

Bethesda Executive Producer Todd Howard offers a detailed overview of how the developer tackled the intimidating task of creating Starfield's lore.

The latest addition to that growing list of incredible vessels comes from Reddit user Propzie, who recently went through the effort of constructing a Star Trek -inspired spacecraft in Starfield . The ship incorporates some design elements of the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) from the original Star Trek TV series and its NX-01 sibling that first appeared in the inaugural episode of Star Trek: Enterprise back in 2001. That's largely thanks to its saucer-shaped hull flanked by a pair of engine nacelles, all connected via a long cylindrical secondary hull that houses something resembling a deflector dish, the Star Trek gizmo used for force field projection.

Propzie revealed that they also looked to the USS Voyager from the fifth Star Trek series and some Parliament-class vessels depicted throughout the franchise for inspiration. The end result of their engineering efforts hence looks like an amalgamation of some of Star Trek 's most iconic iterations of the USS Enterprise ever depicted. That's all the more impressive given Starfield 's limit of 130 ship modules per vessel, which prevented the player from constructing a 1:1 replica of any particular heavy cruiser from Star Trek . The fan opted to compensate for that restriction by sticking the cockpit to the underside of the saucer hull, thus creating an illusion of scale.

To do so, Propzie took advantage of a glitch that allows installing select ship modules in invalid spots by flipping them before canceling placement, which tricks the game into leaving them in their previous position, valid or not. Apart from that little loophole, the design was put together using conventional means, with no mods whatsoever.

And though its imposing appearance might imply otherwise, this custom vessel is actually fairly modest in terms of specs, not least because Propzie constructed it fairly early on in the game. As a result, their Star Trek -inspired Starfield ship falls in the B reactor class, meaning it doesn't even require a maxed-out Piloting skill to operate.

Starfield is available now on PC and Xbox Series X/S.

Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2 Ending & Shocking Season 3 Set Up Explained

Star trek’s newest starship crew won’t repeat ds9's red squad tragedy, star trek reveals wesley crusher has been to j.j. abrams' kelvin timeline & gave it a new name.

WARNING: Contains SPOILERS for Star Trek: Prodigy season 2, episode 5!

  • Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 features a look at Admiral Janeway's new ready room with several Voyager callbacks.
  • A spider decoration in Janeway's ready room may reference Janeway's time as Arachnia in the Captain Proton holodeck program on Voyager.
  • Janeway's ready room contains other Voyager references, such as a USS Voyager model and a picture of her dog Molly.

Admiral Janeway's (Kate Mulgrew) ready room on the USS Voyager-A in Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 contains an obscure Star Trek: Voyager callback. After being canceled and removed from Paramount+ in 2023, Star Trek: Prodigy thankfully found a new streaming home on Netflix, and has kicked off its second season with a bang. Picking up where season 1 left off, season 2 follows the young former crew of the USS Protostar as they embark on a covert mission to save Captain Chakotay (Robert Beltran) from his imprisonment on Solum.

Prodigy 's main cast of characters is joined by Admiral Kathryn Janeway and the crew of the newly minted USS Voyager-A, with Janeway's desire to rescue her close friend and former Number One acting as the driving force behind the season's plot . Prodigy season 2 is also chock-full of references and Easter eggs to Star Trek: Voyager thanks to the presence of Janeway and other characters like the Doctor (Robert Picardo). Some of these are easily noticeable, but others, like a particular decoration in Janeway's new ready room, were likely inserted for eagle-eyed former Voyager viewers.

Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 brings the time travel saga of the USS Protostar full circle. Here's what happened and what it all means for season 3.

Janeway's Spider Decoration In Prodigy Season 2 Could Be A Reference To Voyager’s Captain Proton Program

The spider might be a callback to arachnia, queen of the spider people.

In Prodigy season 2, episode 5, "Observer's Paradox," a look at Janeway's ready room reveals several of these smaller Voyager Easter eggs, including a possible reference to Captain Proton. In keeping with other Star Trek Captains from previous series, Janeway's ready room on the Voyager-A is decorated with a few personal touches, which are shown when she enters for a moment during episode 5. Among these decorations is a curious addition: a framed metal spider on the wall next to Janeway's Starfleet Academy diploma.

Prodigy season 2, episode 5 was written by Jennifer Muro and directed by Ruolin Li and Andrew L. Schmidt

The spider may seem like an odd choice, but could be a callback to one of Voyager 's most memorable episodes. Janeway played Arachnia, Queen of the Spider People during a holodeck misadventure involving Tom Paris's (Robert Duncan McNeill) Captain Proton program in Voyager season 5, episode 12, “Bride of Chaotica!” Janeway’s stint as Arachnia is an unforgettable Voyager moment, and there's no better reason for spiders to be significant to her in Prodigy . Referencing "Bride of Chaotica!" shows just how closely Prodigy 's creative team paid attention to important Voyager events from Janeway's past.

Other Voyager Easter Eggs In Janeway’s Prodigy Ready Room Explained

Janeway's voyager-a ready room has a lot of voyager references.

Besides the spider, Janeway's ready room has several other Voyager callbacks that make it clear how important her most famous command still is to her. A model of the original USS Voyager , along with Janeway's combage and phaser from the ship, make up the most obvious references . Additionally, there is a picture of Janeway and an Irish Setter which acts as a reference to Molly, Janeway's dog who she left behind when Voyager became stranded in the Delta Quadrant. It is unclear whether the picture is actually of Molly or a new dog, but the callback is present all the same.

The other Voyager relics in Janeway's ready room serve as the final piece to tie the two shows together in episode 5.

The final and perhaps most significant Easter egg present in Janeway's ready room is Chakotay's palm stone with the CHAH-mooz-ee symbol etched on it. Prodigy subsequently shows Chakotay conveying the stone into Janeway's safekeeping before his initial mission on the Protostar. Chakotay's stone was first introduced in Voyager as part of his medicine bundle, and acts as an emotionally significant anchor between him and Janeway in Star Trek: Prodigy season 2. Its presence and the other Voyager relics in Janeway's ready room serve as the final piece to tie the two shows together in episode 5.

Star Trek: Prodigy is the first TV series in the Star Trek franchise marketed toward children, and one of the few animated series in the franchise. The story follows a group of young aliens who find a stolen Starfleet ship and use it to escape from the Tars Lamora prison colony where they are all held captive. Working together with the help of a holographic Captain Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew), the new crew of the USS Protostar must find their way back to the Alpha Quadrant to warn the Federation of the deadly threat that is pursuing them.

Star Trek: Voyager

The fifth entry in the Star Trek franchise, Star Trek: Voyager, is a sci-fi series that sees the crew of the USS Voyager on a long journey back to their home after finding themselves stranded at the far ends of the Milky Way Galaxy. Led by Captain Kathryn Janeway, the series follows the crew as they embark through truly uncharted areas of space, with new species, friends, foes, and mysteries to solve as they wrestle with the politics of a crew in a situation they've never faced before.
