Meet your expert English-speaking guide outside Casa Mila, and enjoy skip-the-line entrance for your private tour of the last private residence designed by Barcelona’s beloved architect, Antonio Gaudi. First admire the incredible self-supporting facade of the building, which gives it the nickname La Pedrera – or ‘quarry’. It is more like a sculptural wave, rising 30 meters high with iron railings molded into abstract sculptures resembling seaweed. The Casa Mila was built between 1906-1912 for the Mila family to live in and rent out other apartments on the exclusively fashionable Passeig de Gracia. This was the most important avenue in Barcelona, popular with the aspirational bourgeoisie, and with the city’s finest theatres, iconic buildings, cinemas, expensive shops, and exclusive restaurants and cafes.

Enter Casa Mila and begin your exploration of this exquisite building filled with bright colors and Modernist eccentricities typical of Gaudi. Your tour covers 4,500 square meters over five floors. You’ll explore the beautiful Flower and Butterfly Courtyards that provide light to the whole building. You’ll wander up the iconic staircases, admiring the rounded walls and bright artistic murals. See the tenant’s apartment and immerse yourself in early twentieth-century daily life, with restored rooms and furniture of the era.

Explore the extraordinary Whale Attic – so called for its whale-bone-like structure with 270 catenary arches. Enjoy the in-depth Guadi exhibition here, to learn all about his incredible contributions to Barcelona, before stepping out onto the piece de resistance: the Warrior Rooftop, with its amazing statues, nicknamed the warriors, and spectacular 360-degree views of the city. With so many displays and exhibitions, your tour ends inside the Casa Mila, so you can continue to explore this fascinating and interactive museum space at your leisure.

Casa Mila tours

Finished in 1912 by Antonio Gaudi, Casa Mila — also known as La Pedrero or ‘The Quarry’ for its surreal wave-like structure on the exterior — is the most beautiful building in Barcelona and was named after the family that commissioned Gaudi to create it. As you walk inside the foyer, the striking interiors are hard to miss. Here’s all that you can see inside this marvel.

The Rooftop

The sculptural surreal roof terrace is one of the main highlights of Casa Mila, decorated with Gaudi style structures wherever the eye falls. The rooftop not only provides a glimpse into moderniste artwork, with beauty comes functionality as well in the components of construction, like the staircase that leads to the attic, the chimneys and the ventilation towers. Some elements stand unfinished owing to the family’s financial issues but every element on the rooftop adds up to more than artistic expression and functionality which kickstarts the onlookers imagination.

Espai Gaudí (Attic)

Back in the days of inhabiting, the Espai Gaudí, the attic, was a multifunctional space as a communal laundry area and it functioned as a vast insulating air chamber. This space has now been transformed into a unique display dedicated to Gaudi’s work and his life, the Gaudi Exhibition. Here you can take a look at his life’s work through the mediums of models, plans, designs, photographs, objects and videos.

The Pedrera Apartments

It’s always riveting to take a glimpse into a time far behind and the Pedrera Apartments fires up that curiosity in you. This space reflects the lifestyle of a bourgeois family in Barcelona from the early 20th century, including details like furnishing, utensils and equipment of an era long gone. This apartment provides a double layered perspective — the architecture and the details of their lifestyle. Upon arriving at this space, it is accompanied by an audio-visual presentation which gives further insight on the modernisation and transformation of the city.

The Courtyard

The structure of the building is smartly designed around large courtyards and instead of master walls, the building is supported by pillars leaving two large spaces for patios to fit in. Gaudi’s creativity places two patios in the middle of the building but not without functionality. These patios allow light to seep into rooms and also facilitates ventilation. Looking up from the courtyard or down below at the courtyard gives you an aesthetically pleasing view but not devoid of functionality of the architecture as a whole as well.

Exhibition hall

The upper floor of the building holds the exhibition hall where music, art and cultural exhibitions take place on occasions. One of the most attractive elements of the Exhibition hall is the iconic staircase which holds a range of murals and the wrought iron work done by Gaudi which is still a fascinating work of art.

Are Casa Mila Tours Really Worth it?

Casa Mila is considered as one of the most revolutionary masterpieces in the history of art of Barcelona and had fired up quite a controversy upon reveal in the early 20th century. The waves on the exterior wing of the building, the asymmetrical design and the unconventional wrought iron designs in the building reflect the eccentric take on modernism which is a dreamy and thought-invoking sight to behold. So yes, the guided experience with Casa Mila tours is completely worth it as it enriches the entire experience of artistic discovery and the dive into early 20th century.

The house’s original name was Casa Mila, after the owners, the Mila family. But the locals gave it a nickname – La Pedrera.

While building the attraction, Gaudi attached large stone slabs to the facade, where the stonemasons worked.

With the stone slabs and their irregular shape, the facade reminded the locals of a quarry, and La Pedrera in Spanish means ‘the quarry.’  More such  facts .

However, Gaudi fans attach his name at the end and call it either Casa Mila Gaudi or La Pedrera Gaudi.

Casa Mila opens at 9 am every day of the year.

From March to 3 November, it closes at 8.30 pm; during the lean period of 4 November to February end, it closes early at 6.30 pm.

The last entry is always half an hour before closing.

The upper floors start closing 15 minutes before the closing time of the building.

Night tour timings

The La Pedrera night-show is a 2-hour extravaganza, and it starts half an hour after the attraction closes for the day tours.

From March to 3 November, the night tours start at 9 pm and end at 11 pm, and during the lean period of 4 November to February end, the show begins at 7 pm and ends at 11 pm.

The night show runs all through the week.

The  3 Houses of Gaudi  is a super saver pass, including tickets to La Pedrera, Casa Batllo, and Casa Vicens. You also get a 10% discount code, which you can use (five times!) to get discounts on future purchases.

With Barcelona playing host to Gaudi masterpieces such as Sagrada Familia, Park Guell, Casa Batllo, etc., it is only natural to ask, “Is La Pedrera worth it?”

Tourists who have visited before and even locals agree it is worth every cent of the €24 entry ticket.

Here are some of the reasons –

1. Casa Mila is a UNESCO World Heritage site that attracts more than a million visitors every year.

2. Once the attraction was built, the neighbors found the building so tasteless and they stopped talking to the owners!

They thought the ugly-looking building would lower their property prices. Wouldn’t you like to visit such a controversial structure?

3. Some publications also ran satires on Casa Mila. Cartoons  making fun of Gaudi and his latest building  were published when the building was ready.

4. La Pedrera tickets are cheaper than Casa Batllo tickets.

5. An excellent tour of the attraction will take you around 3 hours. We think a €24 ticket for 3 hours of Gaudi’s work is worth it.

6. The tickets also include access to two different museum areas – the Espai Gaudí and the Pedrera Apartment.

In Gaudi’s Room, you learn about the architect, and in the Pedrera Apartment, you get to see how wealthy 20th-century families lived. It’s totally worth it!

7. This was the last house Antoni Gaudi built before focusing exclusively on Sagrada Familia.

8. More than 15 movies, such as Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008), Rastros de sándalo (2014), The Passenger (1975), Biotaxia (1968), etc., have used this building in Barcelona as a backdrop.

Next time you see it in a movie, the bragging rights will be worth it.

Important:  The cheapest and most popular entry ticket at this Barcelona attraction is the daytime ‘Skip the Line’ Casa Mila ticket . To learn about the different types of tickets available,  click here .

The best time to visit Casa Mila is from 9 am to 10 am, when it is least crowded.

If you can’t make it before 10 am, we suggest you try 4 pm, the next best time.

The daytime tours are more popular and attract a lot of crowds throughout the year.

Fifteen people are allowed inside the attraction at a time, making it one of the most demanded tours of southern Europe.

Best time for photography

If you are an amateur or a professional photographer, the best time to visit Casa Mila is in the later part of the afternoon – around 3 pm.

Casa Mila’s facade is best photographed in the afternoon because of natural light.

The best spots to take photos are the entry patio, the detailed ceiling, the intricate staircases, etc.

As the setting sun starts throwing different hues on the sky, you can go up the terrace to shoot the stunning chimney stacks and ventilation ducts.

These structures appear grand when photographed with a dramatic sky in the background.

Tourists visiting at night see the fascinating show ‘Gaudi’s Pedrera: The Origins.’

The night tour starts with an introduction to the building.

The Gaudi expert, who acts as your guide, then takes the tourists through Passeig de Gràcia, Carrer de Provença courtyards, and the Espai Gaudi (in the attic) roof-terrace.

Once they reach the roof, a light, laser, and sound show takes them through the origins of the attraction

The narration of the story happens through video mapping of the roof terrace.

After the audio-visual show on the roof is over, all tourists are offered a glass of Cava (Spanish Champagne) at the Carrer de Provenca courtyard.

Casa Mila day or night?

If time and money are not an issue, we recommend visiting the attraction both during the day and at night.

If you only have time for one of the tours, continue reading.

Advantages of Casa Mila by day

Casa Mila’s  daytime tour tickets  are cheaper than the  night tour .

The day tour costs €24 for an adult, while visiting at night will put you back by €34 per person.

If you buy the same tickets at the venue, you will pay €3 extra per person.

The day tour is a flexible option. You choose the time and date you want to visit and book the tickets.

However, the night tour starts after 7 pm (or 9 pm), depending on the season.

Since the day tour is self-guided, it can last as long as you like.

However, the night tour is of limited duration – around 90 minutes.

During the day tour, visitors can see ‘The Apartment,’ which remains closed for nighttime visitors.

This Apartment displays bourgeois residents’ lifestyles in the early 20th century.

Find out more about the  day ticket .

Advantages of Casa Mila at night

There is no crowd for the night tour – depending on the season, the number of people for this tour ranges from 10 to 30.

Unlike the day tour, the night tour is led by a Gaudi expert who describes every aspect of the building.

Some tourists believe that the building is more beautiful at night because the scars of its 100-year existence are hidden.

Besides, the artificial lights and the moonlight add their charm to the building.

The 20-minute-long light, laser, and sound show on the terrace happens only at night.

During the show, images, colors, and lights are projected on the various elements of the building’s roof to create a stunning narration.

Your tour ends with a glass of Cava, another name for Spanish champagne.

Check out  Casa Mila’s Night Experience .

La Pedrera has the main structure and the outer skin, or facade.

The stone facade doesn’t bear any load on the main structure.

Steel beams with the same curvature support the facade’s weight by attaching to the main structure.

This original method gave Gaudi the room to design the facade with all the freedom he needed.

With the flexibility to design what he wanted, Casa Mila Gaudi ended up being an asymmetrical building—a rarity.

Sagrada Familia from Casa Mila roof

Many tourists who have been to this Barcelona attraction believe that the highlight of Casa Mila is its roof.

The experience of climbing up impressive staircases, looking down into the ventilation shafts, and staring at the chimneys makes it a memorable trip.

The original colors and shapes that greet you on the roof add to the allure.

So much so that Pere Gimferrer, an award-winning Spanish poet, has called La Pedrera Casa Mila’s stepped roof ‘The Garden of Warriors’.

The different elements that make up the roof are –

  • Six Skylights
  • Six Staircase exits
  • 28 chimneys in different groups
  • 2 half-hidden vents to renew the air in the building

The staircases, some of which are shaped like snails, also house the water tanks.

The roof also offers excellent views of the city of Barcelona.

Casa Mila Chimney

The Casa Mila chimneys on the roof deserve special mention, for they resemble medieval knights guarding the roof.

These so-called ‘Chimney Knights’ have a characteristic Gaudi motif – a military spiked cowl with deep eye sockets.

Gaudi believed a structure could be functional and beautiful simultaneously, and the chimneys magnificently achieved it.

The chimneys are whimsical. They stand out as art sculptures, and yet they serve a purpose.

One of the chimneys is topped with glass pieces.

According to legend, Gaudi himself decorated this chimney with broken pieces of champagne bottles left from the house inauguration party.

Casa Mila is all curves and waves and no right angles.

You will be impressed by everything from the roof to the courtyard, the attic, and the museum within.

The Courtyard

Casa Mila Courtyard

The two separate buildings of Casa Mila intersect at this famous courtyard.

Instead of two buildings meeting, the design suggests two waves of water crashing into one another.

The constant curvy sight will surely put you in a trance.

The enchanting courtyard with floral motif murals can be described as the epitome of Catalan architecture.

With as many as 270 parabolic arches supporting the roof above, the attic will surely wow you.

The attic, which was initially the laundry room, is now converted into a museum showcasing Gaudi’s life and art.

Many tourists compare this part of the building to the rib cage of a massive animal.

The Apartment

Casa Mila Apartment

The main Apartment has two parts: The audio-visual presentation room and the famous La Pedrera apartment.

This is the exact place where Pere Milà lived with his family.

You can enjoy a journey back in time as the interiors, including the bathroom, kitchen, living room, and bedroom, are all kept intact.

In addition to constructing the house, Antoni Gaudi was also responsible for the decor, designing furniture and accessories such as lamps, planters, chairs, etc.

You can see Gaudi’s interior designing skills at the Mila family’s Apartment, which is maintained as-is on the fourth floor of La Pedrera.

Gaudi Exhibition

Casa Mila has an always-on Gaudi exhibition in the attic, perhaps the only show devoted to the ace architect Antonio Gaudi.

You can see videos, models, plans, objects, and designs around all his bodies of work.

Exhibition Room

The Apartment where the Mila family stayed during Casa Mila’s heyday has been converted into the Exhibition Room.

This exhibit is on the main floor of the house.

After Gaudi’s death, Roser Segimon Mila, the house lady, changed much of the decor.

However, some of the sculpted columns and areas of ceiling designed by Gaudi still exist.

The history of Casa Mila La Pedrera starts with a wealthy couple buying a 2,000-square-meter property on Passeig de Gràcia in Barcelona.

The Mila family wanted to build a unique house that would stand out from the rest, and when they saw Casa Batllo, they were impressed.

Since they wanted to build something similar, they contacted Casa Batllo’s architect, Antonio Gaudi.

Gaudi agreed and started building the attraction in 1906.

The construction of this landmark building took six long years.

It was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1984.

It was the first building of the 20th century to be included in the list.

La Pedrera Casa Mila is in Passeig de Gràcia 92, a tourism hotbed with numerous attractions.

Casa Mila is in the district of Eixample, Barcelona. Get Directions

If you are traveling by the Barcelona Hop On Hop Off sightseeing bus , ask for the “La Pedrera” bus stop.

If you prefer a Metro, you can board Green Line L3 or Blue Line L5 and get down at  Provenca Metro station , located under Avinguda Diagonal and Balmes Street.

The metro station is a 5-minute walk from the attraction.

You can also board bus routes 7, 16, 17, 22, 24, and V17 and get down at the Passeig de Gracia bus stop.

Is it Worth Going Inside Casa Mila? A Cost & Time Review

casa mila la pedrera roof terrace

With over 1 million visitors going inside Casa Mila (aka La Pedrera) every year, it’s one of Barcelona’s top attractions, hands down.

But is it worth going inside Casa Mila? And is La Pedrera worth it?

Let’s take a deeper look at what’s on the menu to see if it’s worth buying a ticket.

Make sure to read to the end for my Pedrera video preview, it just might sway you!

casa mila la pedrera interior apartment

Is it Worth it to Go inside La Pedrera?

Most visitors have at least an outside visit pencilled into their Barcelona itinerary plans, though it’s often a tough decision between Casa Mila and its sister mansion Casa Batllo .

⚠️  2024 Warning ⚠️ : It’s strongly suggested to book your La Pedrera tickets in advance .

Sell outs are very common and lines on site can take 20-30 minutes.

Also: booking online is €3.00 cheaper per ticket – it’s just common sense.

  • 🎟️ Buy now: La Pedrera Fast Track Admission (skip the lines)
  • 👨‍✈️ Buy now: La Pedrera Guided Tour in English (90 minute small group guided tour)
  • 🌃 Buy now: La Pedrera Night Experience (guided tour + rooftop light display + wine)

In using the links above, you also get free-cancellation tickets to lock in your dates risk free .

It’s in the top five paid attractions in Barcelona – so let’s take a look at the prices first so we can start figuring out if it’s worth it:

Right off the bat, La Pedrera sticks out as being considerably cheaper than Casa Batllo and Sagrada Familia , especially if you buy your Casa Mila tickets in advance online .

Of course, €25.00 isn’t chump change to many (myself included), so let’s go a bit deeper.

mila tour

What’s Included in Casa Mila Tickets

I’ll start by saying that this €25.00 can easily be spent having a couple of beers and some classic Barcelona tapas on a terrace, so if you’re here for that and nothing else, that’s fine .

But of course, you would be missing out on an amazing building, so let’s break down the pros and cons here:

 ✔️ Pros

  • You get to see the inside of one of the most unique apartment blocks in the world
  • The inside visit transports you back in time to the way aristocrats lived 100 years ago
  • The Garden of Warriors rooftop has been voted the best rooftop in the world
  • It’s got a 4.8 rating on nearly 5,000 Casa Mila Reviews
  • Arguably the best museum on Gaudi’s early work is found in the attic
  • The audio guide gives incredible detail to learn Barcelona’s history
  • It’s a World Heritage site by UNESCO
  • There are amazing summer events on the rooftop

  ❌ Cons

  • Given its popularity, the inside staircases can get crowded
  • There are so many Antoni Gaudi buildings that it’s tough to choose

So there it is: this is a wow-factor apartment block which gives you access to arguably the best rooftop in the world.

And yes, I understand that tickets aren’t the cheapest. But for me – if I come all the way to a city, I want to get my hand on the pulse at all costs, and La Pedrera is a great way to do it.

Regarding the rooftop, you can’t really put a price on a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and if it was, it certainly wouldn’t be €25.00!

Not convinced? Here’s a video preview for you:

And about the crowds?

Just book La Pedrera Sunrise visit tickets (15 people max in the whole house at 8:00 am) using this calendar:

Casa Mila Visitor Reviews

As mentioned, La Pedrera has a 4.8 rating on nearly 5,000 Casa Mila Reviews at their ticket seller Tiqets.

But really, is Casa Mila worth it?

Let’s take a look at some reviews, with some customers casting their votes in the battle with Casa Batllo:

Others stressed about the need to see it from the inside:

Some others shared their opinions on the audio guide:

Finally, those booking tickets in advance online are very satisfied with how fast the process was at Tiqets.com:

Curious? Read my Casa Mila guide to learn even more about this attraction.

At any rate, ensure that you book your La Pedrera tickets in advance as capacity is low, and especially during the high season, the mandatory time slots are usually full.

So Is Casa Mila Worth It?

Based on my experience and the reviews of almost 5,000 visitors, I can say that visiting Casa Mila is a unique, unforgettable way to spend an afternoon.

If you still don’t know whether Casa Mila is worth it, get at me in the comments, as I am happy to give free advice to all my readers!

Taylor Swift's 2nd London Eras Tour Show Sees Travis Kelce, Tom Cruise, Mila Kunis and More 'Shake It Off' Together

The singer's show at London's Wembley Stadium on Saturday, June 22, featured a star-studded crowd

Even A-list stars need to “Shake It Off" sometimes!

During Taylor Swift ’s second Eras Tour show in London on Saturday, June 22, a host of celebrities were captured dancing along to the singer's popular track from her 1989 album.

A video posted on X (formerly Twitter) showed the VIP tent at Wembley Stadium packed with the likes of Tom Cruise , Mila Kunis , Ashton Kutcher , Greta Gerwig , and, of course, Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce — all of whom were showing off their best moves as the pop superstar performed "Shake It Off."

The star-studded clip began with a view of Kunis, 40, shaking her head and bopping along to the beat while wearing a checked shirt, as her husband Kutcher, 46, jumped up and down behind her, pointing at his white T-shirt and raising his arm in the air.

As the camera panned over to the left of the movie star couple, a smiling Cruise, 61, became visible, swaying from side to side as Swift sang the track's chorus. Behind the Mission Impossible actor stood Kelce, 34, with his cap on backward.

But that wasn't the end of the A-list surprises, as right at the end of the video, Barbie director Gerwig, 40, could be seen happily shaking her head along to the track as she danced.

Another video posted online from the "Shake It Off" performance showed that Jason Kelce — who attended both the June 21 and June 22 shows with wife Kylie Kelce — was also having fun in the VIP tent.

The group captured in the fun clip weren't the only famous faces seen at Swift's second London show.

An Instagram snap posted by a fan account showed Rachel Zegler in a selfie image that appeared to have been taken en route to the show. The post also featured a pic of Liam Hemsworth in the audience, which was confirmed by a post on X which showed footage of Hemsworth among the crowd, chatting with others.

Meanwhile, Hugh Grant — who later shared his thanks to Swift in a Sunday, June 23, post on X — was also spotted in the VIP tent at the show, with a fan sharing footage on TikTok of him munching on a snack.

Fifty Shades of Grey actor Jamie Dornan was similarly captured in yet another fan video posted on X, standing in the crowd wearing a white T-shirt.

Elsewhere, during the June 22 Eras Tour performance, Kelce and Cruise were captured in a video having a sweet moment during "Blank Space." The clip showed the Kansas City Chiefs player laughing as he placed his hands on the actor's shoulders, prompting a smiling Cruise to pat one of Kelce's hands.

Swift's Friday night show was an equally epic affair, with Prince William , Prince George and Princess Charlotte attending and even posing with Swift for a photo . The royal trio also took a selfie with the singer and Kelce — which marked the first time the pop superstar has shared a photo of her boyfriend on her social media .

Salma Hayek , Nicola Coughlan , Jonathan Van Ness , Leslie Mann , Cara Camilla Whitehill-Mathieson, Delevingne and Van Ness’ husband Mark Peacock also showed up for Swift the same night.

The singer plays her final London show (for now) on Sunday, June 23, before heading to Ireland with her Eras Tour and then returning to London for more performances in August.

Travis Kelce ,  Tom Cruise  and  Greta Gerwig  were among the nearly 90,000 Swifties who partied like it's 2014 on Night 2 of Taylor Swift 's  Eras Tour stop  in London, England.

There's an awesome 30-second video circulating on social media -- shared by a Taylor Swift fan X account -- that shows the trio inside a VIP tent Saturday night at Wembley Stadium vibing out to "Shake It Off." It's quick, but you can see the Mission: Impossible  star smiling, groovin' and movin' as the camera pans back and forth.

Swift's boyfriend is bopping his head, singing along and nailing the hand gestures, while his brother,  Jason Kelce , is going berserk jumping and shaking his head. Meanwhile, the  Barbie  director is rocking out and moving her head from side to side while belting out lyrics to the hit track off of Swift's 1989 album.

It's an awesome display that follows Prince William  doing the exact same thing  the night prior. The Prince of Wales and his two kids --  Prince George , 10, and  Princess Charlotte , 9 -- joined their dad on Night 1 of Swift's Eras Tour. William was celebrating his 42nd birthday that night, and the future king of England looked like he was having a total blast.

Cruise and Gerwig were far from the only celebrities who showed out for Night 2 of the Eras Tour. Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, Liam Hemsworth and many more were also in attendance . There may have been a few glitches on Saturday night, but that didn't stop everyone from having what's sure to be the night of their lives.

Swift is performing at Wembley Stadium from June 21 to June 23 and then again on Aug. 15-17 and Aug. 19-20.

Taylor Swift's boyfriend surprised 89,000 fans inside Wembley Stadium in London on Sunday by joining dancers Jan Ravnik and Kameron Saunders to revive the singer after she fell to the ground during "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived."

Kelce picked up Taylor Swift and carried her to the bright red lipstick couch before he, Ravnik and Saunders attempted to revive her so she could sing, "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart."

The tight end attended all three nights in London sharing a VIP tent with a slew of stars including Sir Paul McCartney, Jon Bon Jovi, Hugh Grant, Cate Blanchett, Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. His brother Jason and sister-in-law Kylie also traded friendship bracelets and posed for pictures with Swifties.

Swift's boyfriend hinted toward the fire London shows in April while promoting his concert festival Kelce Jam.

I played in Wembley once, and I don't even think we filled that thing all the way up. And London's always an amazing city. Paris is an amazing city."
