Casa Mila tours

Finished in 1912 by Antonio Gaudi, Casa Mila — also known as La Pedrero or ‘The Quarry’ for its surreal wave-like structure on the exterior — is the most beautiful building in Barcelona and was named after the family that commissioned Gaudi to create it. As you walk inside the foyer, the striking interiors are hard to miss. Here’s all that you can see inside this marvel.

The Rooftop

The sculptural surreal roof terrace is one of the main highlights of Casa Mila, decorated with Gaudi style structures wherever the eye falls. The rooftop not only provides a glimpse into moderniste artwork, with beauty comes functionality as well in the components of construction, like the staircase that leads to the attic, the chimneys and the ventilation towers. Some elements stand unfinished owing to the family’s financial issues but every element on the rooftop adds up to more than artistic expression and functionality which kickstarts the onlookers imagination.

Espai Gaudí (Attic)

Back in the days of inhabiting, the Espai Gaudí, the attic, was a multifunctional space as a communal laundry area and it functioned as a vast insulating air chamber. This space has now been transformed into a unique display dedicated to Gaudi’s work and his life, the Gaudi Exhibition. Here you can take a look at his life’s work through the mediums of models, plans, designs, photographs, objects and videos.

The Pedrera Apartments

It’s always riveting to take a glimpse into a time far behind and the Pedrera Apartments fires up that curiosity in you. This space reflects the lifestyle of a bourgeois family in Barcelona from the early 20th century, including details like furnishing, utensils and equipment of an era long gone. This apartment provides a double layered perspective — the architecture and the details of their lifestyle. Upon arriving at this space, it is accompanied by an audio-visual presentation which gives further insight on the modernisation and transformation of the city.

The Courtyard

The structure of the building is smartly designed around large courtyards and instead of master walls, the building is supported by pillars leaving two large spaces for patios to fit in. Gaudi’s creativity places two patios in the middle of the building but not without functionality. These patios allow light to seep into rooms and also facilitates ventilation. Looking up from the courtyard or down below at the courtyard gives you an aesthetically pleasing view but not devoid of functionality of the architecture as a whole as well.

Exhibition hall

The upper floor of the building holds the exhibition hall where music, art and cultural exhibitions take place on occasions. One of the most attractive elements of the Exhibition hall is the iconic staircase which holds a range of murals and the wrought iron work done by Gaudi which is still a fascinating work of art.

Are Casa Mila Tours Really Worth it?

Casa Mila is considered as one of the most revolutionary masterpieces in the history of art of Barcelona and had fired up quite a controversy upon reveal in the early 20th century. The waves on the exterior wing of the building, the asymmetrical design and the unconventional wrought iron designs in the building reflect the eccentric take on modernism which is a dreamy and thought-invoking sight to behold. So yes, the guided experience with Casa Mila tours is completely worth it as it enriches the entire experience of artistic discovery and the dive into early 20th century.

Meet your expert English-speaking guide outside Casa Mila, and enjoy skip-the-line entrance for your private tour of the last private residence designed by Barcelona’s beloved architect, Antonio Gaudi. First admire the incredible self-supporting facade of the building, which gives it the nickname La Pedrera – or ‘quarry’. It is more like a sculptural wave, rising 30 meters high with iron railings molded into abstract sculptures resembling seaweed. The Casa Mila was built between 1906-1912 for the Mila family to live in and rent out other apartments on the exclusively fashionable Passeig de Gracia. This was the most important avenue in Barcelona, popular with the aspirational bourgeoisie, and with the city’s finest theatres, iconic buildings, cinemas, expensive shops, and exclusive restaurants and cafes.

Enter Casa Mila and begin your exploration of this exquisite building filled with bright colors and Modernist eccentricities typical of Gaudi. Your tour covers 4,500 square meters over five floors. You’ll explore the beautiful Flower and Butterfly Courtyards that provide light to the whole building. You’ll wander up the iconic staircases, admiring the rounded walls and bright artistic murals. See the tenant’s apartment and immerse yourself in early twentieth-century daily life, with restored rooms and furniture of the era.

Explore the extraordinary Whale Attic – so called for its whale-bone-like structure with 270 catenary arches. Enjoy the in-depth Guadi exhibition here, to learn all about his incredible contributions to Barcelona, before stepping out onto the piece de resistance: the Warrior Rooftop, with its amazing statues, nicknamed the warriors, and spectacular 360-degree views of the city. With so many displays and exhibitions, your tour ends inside the Casa Mila, so you can continue to explore this fascinating and interactive museum space at your leisure.

City tour with Mila

We had a great tour with our tour guide Mila! Mila was open to show us things we were really interested in and told us all kind of interesting stories and funny legends about Moscow! Thanks again for the fun day! :)

We were five friends who signed up for this tour. After a few minutes listening to our guide, Alyona from Happy Moscow Tours, we realized that this was going to be a fantastic tour of Moscow. Alyona is a true entertainer, both verbally on a tour like this and as a writer. We had a wonderful time and the tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Moscow.

Our friends who visited Moscow recently recommended us Happy Moscow Tours. They are exactly what people write about their tour guides here on TA.. Always punctual, responsible, and so knowledgeable. We had 5 days in Moscow and each day we had guided tours by Happy Moscow. They have a lot to offer you. We booked Must See, Soviet Moscow, Cultural Moscow, Izmailovo Kremlin with Vodka museum and Souvenir market, Kremlin on Red Square, Armoury and Diamond fund. Night Moscow, and the Off beaten path tour. Each guide was an amazing person with great personalities and very friendly. We felt like we were among friends in Moscow. We would have not seen that much on our own without them. Thank you Happy Moscow tours, your guides made our trip to Moscow so memorable and happy experience. Highly recommended.

I took my GF for her 30th birthday to Moscow, and I booked Happy Tours moscow , I saw so many good reviews about it here and decided to book with them two tours, they sent to us Ludmila, and man she is the best, she is amazing and it was very interesting two days.. She explained to us that normally they don't send the same guide in two days but we were LUCKY that the second guide got sick and Mila came back the second day.. I would book this tour over and over again in my future visits to Moscow.. Much love.

We were in town on business, four of us, two in our thirties and two in our sixties, had some unexpected extra free time, and arranged a last-minute 6 hour private tour with Happy Moscow Tours with Vladimir as our guide. Vladimir was a fantastic guide and our tour was excellent! After meeting us at our hotel, Vladimir led us in exploring center of Moscow and out of center, imparting interesting historical, architectural, and cultural information and giving us expert personal tips regarding Moscow. We all learned so much -- even those of us who have taken many walking tours of the city. Vladimir was great at meeting our requests to find great coffee and restrooms while on tour (always difficult to do in Moscow if you don't know the district or don't speak Russian. At the end of the tour, he sat down with us to answer any questions that we had regarding our tour and to discuss suggestions on what to do with our remaining time in Moscow. I highly recommend Vladimir and Happy Moscow Private Tours. It was clear that Vladimir is extremely knowledgeable, enjoys showing visitors his native Moscow, and could expertly lead a variety of specialized tours. We will definitely use his guiding service again when we return to Moscow!

We took our daughter to Moscow for her 16th birthday. We wanted to see and learn as much as we could in the short time we had and didn't want to be crammed on a big bus with lots of people. We like to ask questions and get recommendations in a more personal atmosphere. Luckily, we chose Happy Moscow Tours and their Must See Tour. Our guide Natalya was charming, knowledgeable, and very interesting. Having the tour at the beginning of our stay was perfect because we then felt comfortable going it alone for the rest of our trip. We rode the subway and became familiar with that (a big deal for those of us not speaking Russian) and also got to see some places we had heard about our whole lives. It was a great experience, but do take them seriously when they say put more layers in cold weather, they know their weather. Tours definitely covers lots of territory and most of attractions located outdoors! We had great time and we recommend it as the perfect way to start a Moscow vacation.

There’s surely some Beverly Hillbillies quip that pertains to the home that actors Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis have built on a glorious hilltop site perched above the storied Los Angeles enclave. After all, the high-powered Hollywood transplants—he’s from Iowa; she was born in Ukraine—dug a well on the property to irrigate the land, planted (and harvested) a field of corn during the COVID lockdown, and dubbed the place KuKu Farms. But while Jed, Granny, and the rest of the Clampetts embraced a far more traditional take on Beverly Hills splendor—the sprawling French Neoclassical mansion pictured in the series credits was designed by architect Sumner Spaulding in the early 1930s and renovated by the legendary designer Henri Samuel in the 1980s—Kutcher and Kunis approached their passion project from a decidedly more modest perspective.

“We wanted a home, not an estate,” Kunis insists, describing the six-acre property that now accommodates a main house connected to a guesthouse/entertainment barn, as well as a freestanding barbecue pavilion, all arrayed along a central axis elaborately plotted to capture the beguiling views from, between, and through the various structures. “We wanted the house to look like an old barn, something that had been here for decades, that was then converted into a house. But it also had to feel modern and relevant,” Kutcher elaborates.

The design-obsessed duo launched their five-year adventure by assembling independent Pinterest boards to flesh out their personal visions for the project. “Building a house from the ground up is no small thing. This was either going to make us or break us,” Kunis says of the potentially divisive undertaking. Happily, their aesthetic predilections seemed to dovetail neatly. “When we looked at each other’s boards, 90 percent of the images we selected were the same, and most of the houses we pinned were designed by Howard,” Kutcher recalls, referring to architect Howard Backen of the AD100 firm Backen & Gillam Architects.

Sight lines extend from the barbecue pavilion, across the pool, and through the main house.

Backen, of course, is a master of the so-called modern farmhouse, renowned for his ability to coax a sense of poetry and a bright, contemporary spirit from distilled vernacular forms and rustic materials. The Kutcher/Kunis residence is a testament to his alchemical handling of reclaimed wood, board-form concrete, and glass. “Howard is like a great software designer, someone who approaches design as an accentuation of function,” says Kutcher, who has broad experience in technology start-ups. “A software designer wants to get people where they want to be with the fewest clicks. Howard wants to get you where you want to be with the fewest doors and obstacles. He also knows that there are certain places where you want a barrier to mark a threshold and create a little friction,” Kutcher adds.

For his part, Backen returns the compliment. “Ashton and Mila are two of the smartest, most inquisitive people we’ve ever worked with. We talked about everything from beam sizes to the details of the cross bracing to the junctures of the wood planks and concrete. These are not the kinds of conversations we have with every client,” says the architect.

Montauk sofas, a Vaughan standing lamp, and an antique rug from Woven inhabit the living room, where the seams of board-form concrete walls are perfectly aligned with reclaimed-oak floor planks.

Stephanie Gerwin, Backen’s associate, seconds the notion. “They were out there with us, as genuine members of the design team, for every step of this long and complicated process,”  she notes, emphasizing the couple’s commitment to creating a sustainable, nurturing home for themselves and their two young children, Wyatt and Dimitri. The house is entirely powered by photovoltaics, concealed from view above the expansive porch that stretches along one side of the main structure. In fact, the house’s solar array produces significantly more power than the property requires, although antiquated municipal codes don’t exactly encourage energy sharing— a situation the homeowners hope will change in the future. “Ashton and Mila are concerned about the quality of the soil, the purity of the food they eat and the water they drink. The ideals of sustainability and regenerative farming aren’t just abstract concepts to them,” Backen avers.

The house’s refined architectural vocabulary and rugged materials palette provided a springboard for the work of AD100 interior designer Vicky Charles of Charles & Co., who joined the project just as she was exiting her post as global head of design for Soho House. “We were obsessed with Soho Farmhouse and other projects Vicky spearheaded. We loved the way she mixed fabrics, patterns, textures—really her whole aesthetic,” Kunis says.

“Mila was pregnant with their first child when we began this journey. We spent months looking at materials and colors to find the right visual language. Our conversations were not just about the land and the architecture but also about the future of their family,” Charles recalls. “Over time, the design moved away from a traditional farmhouse aesthetic to something more contemporary. Wrought-iron chandeliers and big chesterfields were the wrong clothes for this body,” she adds.

In addition to new, crisply tailored tables and plush, super-comfortable seating, Charles incorporated elements from her clients’ previous homes, notably a set of custom silver throne chairs that Kutcher commissioned on a trip to India and an extravagant 10-foot-long crystal chandelier that seemed completely antithetical to the architecture’s humble forms and timeworn materials. “I got this job because I promised I could make a home for those, shall we say, formidable pieces,” Charles jokes. Ultimately she placed a pair of chairs in the primary bath—thrones for the throne room—and installed the chandelier in the towering entertainment pavilion. “We thought it would be funny to have this incredibly opulent thing hanging in a barn. It kind of takes the piss out of the property,” Kunis says of the improbable crystal confection.

Notwithstanding those notes of self-effacing levity, the soul of the Kutcher/Kunis residence remains tied to the meticulous planning and fanatical attention to detail that the homeowners and their designers lavished on every aspect of the project. “To feel tranquility in a space, everything needs to be in order,” Kutcher concludes. “If the world around you isn’t in order, it’s hard to get your brain in order. When we’re in our home, the world just makes sense.”

What are the benefits of owning vs. renting?

Owning a home can help you build equity, offers tax deductions and fixed monthly payments, and gives you a sense of permanence. When you rent, your lease sets the price, your place isn’t really yours, and there are no tax benefits or financial freedom. There are many benefits to owning a home that you can’t get with renting.

Mila Kunis Confirmed That She And Ashton Kutcher Won’t Return For “That ‘90s Show” Season 2 After They Were Exposed For Writing Letters In Support Of Danny Masterson

Mila and Ashton have been keeping a low profile since they were forced to apologize for writing letters in support of Danny Masterson last year.

Ashton kutcher and mila kunis famously met in 1998 on the set of that ‘70s show , in which they starred as on-again, off-again couple, michael kelso and jackie burkhart..

Though they met early in their careers , the costars didn’t start dating until 2012. They married in 2015 and share two children — 9-year-old daughter Wyatt and 7-year-old son Dimitri.

Seventeen years after the original series ended in 2006, Ashton and Mila thrilled fans by reprising their roles in the Netflix spinoff series, That ‘90s Show , which premiered at the start of last year.

If you’ve not seen it, Ashton and Mila returned for one episode to play Kelso and Jackie, who are now married on the show. The spinoff centers around a new generation of teens, including Kelso and Jackie’s son, Jay (played by Mace Coronel ).

Ashton and Mila weren’t the only That ‘70s Show cast members to reprise their roles for the new series. The spinoff was led by Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith, who starred once again as Kitty and Red Forman, while Topher Grace , Laura Prepon, and Wilmer Valderrama also made cameos.

That ‘90s Show wound up being a hit with viewers, many of whom were pleased by the return of so many beloved cast members, and as a result, the spinoff was promptly renewed for a second season, due to come out later this year .

However, Mila recently revealed that she and her husband won’t be returning, despite having had a lot of fun shooting their cameos for Season 1.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at an event celebrating the 25th anniversary of Family Guy this week, Mila explained that she and Ashton felt that they’d done enough to lay the groundwork for their characters’ futures by appearing in Season 1.

“I mean, we did our thing, and they introduced our son in the show and that was, you know, [enough],” she said, after answering “no” when asked if she and Ashton would be returning.

Alongside her on the red carpet, Mila’s Family Guy and That ‘70s Show costar Seth Green said he would be going back for another round of the Netflix series.

Though she didn’t divulge more information about their plans, Mila’s comments come seven months after she and Ashton were forced to apologize for letters they wrote in support of their former That ‘70s Show costar, Danny Masterson .

Closeup of Danny Masterson and his partner walking outside

For context, Ashton, Mila, and Danny were shooting That ‘70s Show at the time that Danny drugged and raped two women at his Hollywood Hills home. He was found guilty of the crimes in May, and he was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison in September.

Around this time, court documents revealed that Ashton and Mila were among those to have written letters to the judge asking for leniency ahead of the sentencing, describing Danny as a “role model” with “exceptional character.”

In Ashton’s letter , he asked the judge to reconsider the length of Danny’s sentence, arguing that his friend was not an “ongoing harm to society.” He also wrote that it would be a “tertiary injustice” for Danny’s daughter to be “raised without a present father.”

Mila’s letter echoed similar themes as she described the “tremendous positive influence” that Danny had had on her and “the people around him.” She also hailed his “dedication to leading a drug-free life” — a statement which many found bizarre in light of the fact that Danny used drugs on the women he raped .

Ashton and Mila were faced with intense backlash and were quickly prompted to issue a video statement — which, as you may remember, was not received well by the public.

In the short video clip — which was shared to Ashton’s Instagram page on Sept. 9 — the couple insisted that they “support victims” and said that the letters “were not written to question the legitimacy of the judicial system or the validity of the jury’s ruling.”

They explained that they were asked by Danny’s family to write the letters, which “were intended for the judge to read and not to undermine the testimony of the victims or retraumatize them in any way.”

Notably, they did not explicitly apologize, which led people to describe the video message as performative and “ insincere .”

They subsequently turned off the comments on the post, and on Sept. 15, Time reported that Ashton had resigned as chair of the board of Thorn — the anti-child sex abuse organization he and Demi Moore founded back in 2009 when they were still married.

Since then, the pair have maintained a low profile, with Mila’s recent red carpet marking her first public engagement in months. You can watch her full interview with Entertainment Tonight here.
