This one is a lovely one to do, covering the most eastern part of the 1000 Islands. In addition, the entire town of Brockville is absolutely worthy of a couple of days stay. • 985tylerc 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Captain Andy the drunk Our "captain" and by the sounds of it the owner started drinking as soon as we left the dock. Not a huge deal as he wasn't driving the boat but in my opinion extremely unprofessional. The bigger deal were the accusations from 7 different women that he had in one way or another touched them inappropriately. I'm sure the police will be involved and we will see what happens so until then I would save your money and go elsewhere. I certainly will never be going back and I wouldn't trust my family anywhere near this place. Read more Written October 16, 2022

The sunset cruise was full too and socially spaced to allow us a very safe and informative way to spend our early evening in Brockville. Fun for old and young alike. Read more Written August 17, 2021

  • alsupremo 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles A good location to stop between Montreal and Toronto. Nice cruise. Booked the 90 minute tour at 2;30pm. Had a Travelzoo coupon to save $5. We met the grump lady at the front counter as well. The tour does the far eastern islands. Very well done, covered a large area for the time suitable to see many islands and the Brockville coastline. Taped recording was good. Noticed the white storage bins with lifejackets were all locked on the upper deck. Figured it was just one but on leaving noticed it was all of them. Told the crew and said Oh we forgot to unlock them. Have done the Gananoque cruise further west and think that location is better and can take you to Bolte Castle Read more Written August 12, 2021
  • lyndaf816 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Highly recommend We took a private cruise yesterday to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. Booked and paid online with no problems. Arrived early to let them know we were there and having some lunch before the cruise. Captain Andy was ready to go as soon as we were done. It was a great afternoon on the water and we learned so much about the history of the area from Captain Andy. He was ready to answer any questions we had and was very knowledgeable about the history of 1000 Islands and Brockville. He suggested a visit to the Brockville Railway Tunnel which we did take in after the cruise. It was also amazing. Lois was working the shop and was very friendly and funny. She had us laughing a lot. We will be back and we will be telling anyone looking for a nice day trip to check in with them for a cruise. Thank you Captain Andy and Lois! Read more Written August 10, 2021
  • Martine B 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Very unsatisfied with the front desk lady When we arrived, a party of 4 at the front counter on Aug. 6th past noon, the lady told us they were NO room for the 14:30 and 16:30 cruise. We told her that we have Tuango. She told us to book directly online but...no room for today, the Friday. During lunch break, we checked online and they had room so we went back at the counter and we had to buy cash for the cruise and funny, they were seats available! She found 1000....reasons ....Yes, the lady was NOT of any help at all! We would certainly go to another location such as Gananoque or even Kingston but NOT at that counter! • Pamela M 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Lovely way to see and learn about the history of the 1000 Islands around Brockville Jewels of the St. Lawrence 90 Minute Tour - Overall a lovely experience, it is a pre-recorded commentary, which is nice, you'll always hear the same thing, no matter which crew you get. Very informative and interesting. All staff were wonderful and helpful. We went on a rainy day and being that we were first in line, the crew were helpful in where we should sit on the top deck in order to avoid the rain. We ended up being the only people who lasted the whole cruise on the upper deck, as it really was wet everywhere else - so that was great! Great COVID protocols, each seating area labelled to ensure groups were able to socially distance from each other. The only drawback - we booked through a Travelzoo deal, and although on paper it looks great - $39 for 2 people, we still had to pay "taxes and fees" on site - and that ended up being an additional $10+ so we only saved $10 over booking directly, so not a great deal through Travelzoo. • EatSleepTravel2015 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles The cruise was nice but... The cruise itself was nice, but the lady at the ticket office was rude and there was a hidden fee, which really set the tone for the experience. When we arrived at the ticket office, the lady told me that I needed to show her the Groupon that I used to book the tickets (I'm surprised that they didn't have that information since I already booked the tickets online with the Groupon code?), so I quickly searched through my emails on my phone (it took maybe 1-2 minutes), and while I was doing that my boyfriend actually saw her rolling her eyes at me. How unprofessional and disrespectful! If you don't like when people use Groupons maybe don't offer them? We also saw her roll her eyes after speaking to a customer on the phone...let's just say first impressions are everything. I was then charged a surprise $5 extra per ticket, which seems a little bit suspicious to me as there was no information about additional fees on the Groupon. Like I said, the cruise itself was nice, but the rude lady and the hidden fee were not. Read more Written August 2, 2021

We chose to sit on the upper deck and the view was splendid all around. The weather was just gorgeous and the St-Lawrence waters were calm. • Mort1508 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Castle Blast The cruise (at up to 70kmh) was fantastic- we blasted out to Singer Castle with classic rock and some interesting commentary from our enthusiastic Captain. The sea crew offered a much appreciated bar service - loved that the trolley was an old Canada 3000 relic. Cruise was awesome, one star held back as the boarding system, as well-trained Canucks do we all lined-up expecting to board in queue order. Nope - Captain starts calling out the numbers on the boarding passes for priority. Would have been nice to know as it would have saved 25 minutes standing in the sun. But value and fun for money once aboard were outstanding. Read more Written September 3, 2019

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

boat tours brockville

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

boat tours brockville

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

boat tours brockville

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

boat tours brockville

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

boat tours brockville

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

boat tours brockville

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

boat tours brockville

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.
