For more details check our UAE tourist visa extension option for a better idea.

Where to pay the fine

You can settle your overstaying fines at any of the entry ports (airport, land border, sea ports), immigration offices, Amer offices and typing centres. If you are opting for an extension, the tourism company will make the payment for you.

Most UAE residents and visitors are settling their overstaying fines while exiting UAE through the airports, Ports and land borders in any of the 7 Emirates. Every point of entry is equipped with well-trained immigration officers and systemized processes to collect the overstaying fines and help make your exit a hassle-free process.

If you feel like settling any overstaying dues before you leave to make the exit process less time consuming, feel free to make the payments in any of the local immigration offices, Amer offices or typing centres.

30 day or 90 day on arrival visa holders, prepaid visa holders or Mexicans are eligible to extend their stay via a local tourism firm. While extending their stay, they can settle any overstaying fines of the previous visa. After reforms, also visit visa holders who are extending their stay need to make a payment of 50 AED per day of overstay and residence visa holders need to pay 50 AED per day and additional 50-100 AED will be service charge.

How to avoid paying fines

Make sure to adhere to these tips and you won't have to pay any overstaying fines.

  • 1. Plan your return trip beforehand. This trick will save you lots of money as you won’t need to pay any overstay fines. Use Visa days calculator to count your days of stay accurately.
  • 2. Make use of the Days Calculator Days Between Two Dates and tick the ‘Include end date in calculation’ box. 1 day will be added as UAE immigration counts your date of entry into the country too
  • 3. Use the UAE Immigration’s file validity checking systems to confirm your last day of stay after you have entered the country.
  • 4. Request your visa provider to send you screenshots from the immigration system to confirm your last day of stay in UAE.
  • 5. Get to know your visa type and read the Type of visas in UAE for a better understanding of grace periods and their availability.
  • 6. Avoid any travels on the last day of your grace period as delays in flights can postpone your stay resulting in fines being charged. Always travel a minimum of 2 days before your last day of grace period.

Fines During Corona-virus

Any UAE visit visa holders waiting for an announcement for a stay extension for the individuals unable to leave UAE due to airport closures and flight cancellations there won't be any overstaying fines charged. The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship had made a statement on March 23, 2020 that such individuals will be able to extend their stay in the country until situations improve. Source : Khaleej Time

Modifying visa status – Status change

Under the Ministerial Resolution No. 377 of 2014 , visa holders of all types can modify the status of their entry while staying in the country if they wish to get a residency visa. A payment of 550 to 650 AED and compliance to certain requirements and conditions have to be met for successfully modifying visa status into residency visa. However, the applicant must ensure to perform this step before his current visa expires to avoid any fines being charged.

Is it criminal?

In UK, overstaying without a valid reason is a criminal offence under section 24 of the Immigration Act 1971 . In UAE, there is no law that says overstaying a visitor's visa or expired residence visa is a criminal offence. Most of the visit visa holders and cancelled residence visa holders overstay due to reasons like flight cancellations (Now due to corona), delays in processing new visa or employment visa. In most cases the average period of overstaying is between 5 to 15 days. In certain cases, Asian visitors have been scammed into believing that their visit visa is an employment visa resulting in them overstaying for many months. In such an instance, it is regarded as a criminal offence and the individual will be deported upon getting caught. As UAE practices many humanitarian acts, once every one or two years, The UAE visa amnesty requests all individuals who are overstaying to exit the country and waive off their overstaying fines.

Overstaying affect my re-entry?

We have heard news that overstaying for more than 1 to 2 months could affect any prospective employment opportunities. There are no laws confirmed about how overstaying will affect a visitor’s or resident’s next re-entry. In our experience some individuals who had overstayed and re applied for a new visa were approved while some were rejected. This decision is solely reliant on the Immigration departments’ security team.

UAE visa overstay fines cut from Dh100 to Dh50 per day

Penalty for allowing any visa to expire now fixed at dh50 per day.

The UAE is offering new types of visa, including options for long-stay tourists, jobseekers, accomplished professionals, star students and high-net-worth individuals. Wam

Tourists who stay beyond the validity of their visa will pay a reduced fine of Dh50 per day instead of Dh100, authorities have said.

However, if found to be overstaying when on a residency permit the penalty has risen, from Dh25 a day to Dh50.

The changes have been in force since the new UAE entry and residence visa rules came into effect on October 3.

Previously, the penalty was calculated depending on the kind of visa that had expired.

“The new system unified the amount of overstay fines to Dh50 per day for any type of visa violator,” said a spokesperson from the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security.

“The overstay fine payment can be paid either by visiting happiness centres or online through the authority website and smart application.”

Any days spent requesting documents or updating information are included in the number of days accumulating the fine.

If an application to renew the visa is started but the correct documents are not uploaded within 30 days, or the wrong documents are uploaded more than three times, the application is cancelled and a new one must be started.

Residency visa holders have a six-month grace period to either leave the country or change their status once the permit has either been cancelled or expired. Beyond this it becomes a crime to stay in the UAE and an arrest can be made.

For expired visit visas, the offender can be arrested after 30 days without a visa renewal. Inspection campaigns are regularly carried out to catch offenders.

The new UAE visa rules that came into effect last month allow holidaymakers to stay for 60 days at a time.

The decision to make all entry visas valid for 60 days from the date of issue ― double the previous allowance ― is one of a series of visa changes approved by the Cabinet in April.

Previously, there was no specific visa for tourists and those wishing to visit the UAE applied for 30-day, 60-day or 90-day visit visas.

The one, two and three-month entry permits are still available on a new visa, but mainly for people wishing to visit friends or relatives in the country, which requires documentary evidence proving the relationship and reasons for the visit.

All entry visas are available for single or multiple entry and can be renewed for a further 60 days.

How to Check Overstay Visa Fine in UAE

How to Check Overstay Visa Fine in UAE

Millions of people come to the UAE every year for work, study, leisure, or all of the above. There are visas depending on your purpose for entering the country. Of course, these visas come with validity periods, and there’s a process to follow if you want to extend your stay.

Once your visa expires, there’s a grace period during which you can either exit the country, or file an application to extend or change your status. Failure to do so would mean that you are overstaying, and there are fines for overstaying as a tourist or resident in the UAE. In this article, we will talk about how you can check your overstay visa fine, and how you can pay for it online.

Validity Period of UAE Visas

What is overstaying, how much is overstay visa fine, how to check overstay visa fine online, how to pay overstay visa fine online, other ways to pay overstay visa fine.

As mentioned earlier, there is a validity period for each visa, depending on the type of visa you have and the purpose of your visit. These include tourist visas, eVisas, student visas, residence visas, investment visas, and retirement visas, among others.

The tourist visa allows you to stay in the UAE for up to 90 days, which may be extended for the same period or duration. Meanwhile, the eVisa, which is specifically for GCC residents, is valid for 30 days starting from the date of issue. It may be extended for up to 30 days.

Student visas are typically valid for one year beginning from the date of issue, and may be extended for the same period as well. On the other hand, residence visas are usually valid for one, two, or three years, depending on your purpose of travel.

As for investment visas and retirement visas, these are usually valid for five to 10 years — periods that may be extended, too. Once again, the validity period of your visa depends on your purpose for coming to the UAE.

What exactly is overstaying? This happens when your visa expires, and you are not able to exit the country or extend your stay legally. There’s a grace period during which you can do so — 30 days for tourist visas, for example. Beyond this period, you would be considered overstaying if you’re still in the UAE.

For those who hold residence visas, the grace period to either exit the UAE or change visa status is six months after the visa expires. After this period, it would be considered as overstaying. This is illegal, and an arrest could be made if fines are not paid and legal steps are not taken.

As of November 2022, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) has standardised overstaying fines in the UAE, Gulf News reported.

For tourist and visit visa holders, the overstaying fine is AED 50 per day . Previously, it was AED 100 per day. That’s a reduction by half… a big difference, indeed!

Meanwhile, for residence visa holders, the overstaying fine is also AED 50 per day . This is actually an increase from the previous amount, which was AED 25 per day. In this case, the amount has doubled.

If you have overstayed and you’d like to check your visa fine, you can do this online through the official website of the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP). Below are the steps that you need to take:

  • Go to the official website of ICP through this link .
  • For “Select the Module,” choose either “File Number” or “Citizens of Certain Countries.”
  • If you selected “File Number,” you’ll need to enter information regarding your visa file number, specifically the department, year, service, and sequence. On the other hand, if you selected “Citizens of Certain Countries,” you’ll need to provide your passport number, passport type, nationality, and date of birth.
  • Solve the “Captcha” portion, then click “Search.”
  • The following page will show all the important details, including how long you have overstayed, and how much you need to pay as overstay fine.

How to Check Overstay Visa Fine in UAE

After checking your overstay fine, you have the option to pay for your visa fine online through the same website. Here’s how to do it:

  • Follow the above steps, “How to Check Overstay Visa Fine Online.”
  • After checking your overstay fine, click “Next.”
  • Enter your banking information and mobile number. You will receive an OTP to proceed with the transaction. Please note that in addition to the overstay fine, there may also be a service fee that you need to pay.
  • After making your payment, you will receive an SMS on your mobile phone as well as an email confirmation containing the receipt of your payment. That’s it!

Paying your overstay fine online is fast and convenient. However, there are other ways in which you can pay your overstay visa fines, depending on your preference. These include typing centers and local immigration offices.

In addition, you can also pay at airports, ports, and border crossings. For instance, before leaving the UAE, you can pay your fine at the airport so that your overstay fees may be settled.

No matter what type of visa you have, be it a tourist visa, residence visa, student visa, or others — it’s important to know its validity so that you would know whether you have overstayed or not. If you have overstayed in the UAE, then checking and paying for your visa fine is definitely a must. Otherwise, you might face serious legal consequences, even arrest! What’s more, you might get blacklisted and unable to return to the country. So be sure to pay your fines!

DISCLAIMER: We hope that the above guide has been helpful, especially if you or anyone you know has been overstaying in the UAE. Please keep in mind, however, that this guide is presented for general, information-sharing purposes only. In order to learn more about visa fees, overstaying, and how to pay your fines, please visit the official websites of the UAE Government Portal and the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security or ICP.

Overstaying Visa Fine UAE for Visit Visa, Tourist Visa, Residence Visa

Main Points

Overstaying Visa Fine in UAE

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security has standardised the fine on overstaying your visa in the country.

As we all know UAE welcomes millions of expatriate residents and visitors. However, it is also important to follow the rules of the country and should always be avoided to overstay if possible.

In case if you overstay, you will be subjected to pay overstaying visa fine. Tourist and visit visa holders who overstay will pay Dh50 a day instead of Dh100. Also, those overstaying on a residency visa will have to pay double, i.e., Dh50 a day instead of Dh25.

If anyone purposely exceeds the grace period, by a further 30 days or more in case of residence visa you may have the chance to face extra penalties with your name added to an immigration blacklist which could prevent you from re-entering the UAE at a later date. The fines also apply to employee’s spouse, children and anyone else who overstays in UAE.

Hence I recommend to avoid overstaying to avoid any serious consequences later on.

How much is the fine for overstaying visa in UAE?

Tourist visa and visit visa overstay fines:.

If you are on a tourist or a visit visa and you are overstayed, you will be fined a certain fee to be paid at the immigration offices or at the airport when exiting.

Tourists and visit visa holders have a grace period of 10 days. Until the 10th day you can leave the country without paying any fines. If a tourist or a visitor overstays beyond the grace period, you will start to incur fines, that gradually increase as the overstay increases:

  • AED 200 for the first day of overstay
  • AED 50 each consecutive day
  • AED 100, as service fees.

Overstay fines for UAE Residence Visa :

In the case if you are on a UAE residence visa or on employment visa and your visa is cancelled or expired you have 30 days’ grace period after visa expiry or cancellation to either amend their status and get another residence visa or leave the country. During the grace period of 30 days you will not incur any fines.

If you overstay after the grace period, you will be fined with

  • AED 125 for the first day
  • AED 50 for each subsequent day.
  • AED 50 per day after six months of overstaying
  • AED 100 per day after one year of overstaying

No visit visa extensions without exiting country.

Modifying visa status into residency visa applies after meeting required terms and conditions and payment of AED 550 fee in lieu of leave. However, the applicant must do this before the expiry of his current visa to avoid any penalties.

How can I claim my unpaid salaries if my visa is about to expire and the employer did not pay?

My company has held almost 5 to 6 months of my salary. On 16 May, my contract expired and the company refused to pay me my salary.

I asked them for an update as I didn't travel to work due to lack of funds. There was no reply for 2 days and on the 3rd day, I decided to resign.

They accepted my resignation after 2 days. The next day, I completed my handover process and since then I have been following up with them by visiting the company and by email.

They have not provided me with the final settlement details yet with all this happening while I am in my grace period . I filed a complaint with the Ministry of Labor.

The Ministry representative contacted the finance manager and they told him that the owner was out of the country.

Once my grace period is over, who will pay the overstaying charges?

I have not signed the cancellation and I have to stay back so that I can get all my pending salaries and EOS.

You may keep following up with the MoL and provide any updates or documentation they request.

Technically, your employer is responsible for your visa cancellation and any associated overstay fines until your dues are settled.

This is because they haven't initiated the cancellation process.

Clearly communicate to the MoL that you're willing to cooperate with the visa cancellation process once your salary and final settlement are received.

If you need further clarification you may ask

They also did not give him his salary. It has been two months since his visa expired. What can he do to avoid the overstay fine and apply for a new visa?

An interview-format article covering the topic of overstaying your tourist or resident visa in the UAE. This is from the legal podcast of lawyer Ludmila Yamalova, the founder of Lawgical with LYLAW. Ludmila discusses the aspects of overstaying, like fines, grace periods, exemptions...etc.

The UAE has adopted a major reform in its legislative system that brought about 40 new laws and amendments to the company law, criminal law, personal status, among others. The amendments aim to develop the legislative structure in various sectors, the labor law being one of these, was the most recent. We try in this article to shed light on the changes introduced with the new labor law and their significance on both, the employer and employee.

The provisions of this Decree-Law, known as "New UAE Labor Law", govern labour relations in the private sector of the United Arab Emirates. The New Labor Law repeals the previous UAE Labor Law (Federal Law No. (8) of 1980).

The provisions of this Law, known as "UAE Labour Law", govern the relationship between employers and employees and other labour matters in the United Arab Emirates. There are special labour related regulations applicable in some of the free zones in the UAE.

This Decree sets the rules and conditions for the termination of fixed-term (limited) or unlimited (not term-bound) employment contract between employer and worker in the United Arab Emirates.

Easily Track Your UAE Visa Validity Using Just Your Passport Number

Table of contents.

Wondering how to quickly check your visa status without hassle? This guide will show you the simple steps to know your validity using only your passport.

Why Should You Check Your Visa Status?

It’s important for both residents and visitors to monitor their visa situation regularly for many reasons:

Planning Travel: Confirm eligibility to travel in/out of UAE within the validity period . Renew on Time: Verify the expiry date to renew well before limits to avoid fines or issues. Employer Compliance: Some jobs and visas require keeping documents valid for ongoing work authorization. Avoid Fines: Overstaying past the end date can lead to heavy airport penalties when trying to exit. Stay Legal: Verifying the status ensures you are complying with all residency regulations in the country.

Common Questions

Let’s address some typical queries people have about checking their status:

When can I view my visa details?

You can check as soon as you receive the final visa, whether it’s for tourism, business or long-term residence.

What details do I need handy?

Only the passport number printed prominently inside your travel document. It’s helpful taking a picture in case you misplace the physical booklet.

How often should I review?

At minimum, confirm your status two months before expiry date shown. Also cross-check periodically like every 3-4 months to stay updated.

When can’t I access the system?

The database won’t reflect any information during the active visa application processing period until after final approval.

The 5-Step Visa Status Check Process

Now let’s go through the fast five-minute procedure:

1. Gather Passport

Get your actual passport to easily see the number without mistakes.

2. Visit Official Immigration Website

Head over to https://smartservices.icp.gov.ae/echannels/web/client/default.html#/fileValidity

3. Choose Passport Search

This selection lets you check status based on travel document specifics.

4. Enter Passport Details

Input the number, expiry date and nationality as the form requires.

5. Search and See Status

Click on search after solving the simple captcha. Your visa page appears!

Understanding The Visa Page Fields

But what exactly do all those headings mean? Here’s a breakdown:

  • Reference ID: Unique code identifying your specific data record
  • Application Number: The file number the visa issued under
  • Status: Shows standing like valid, expired or cancelled
  • Issue Date: When the visa was granted
  • Expiry Date: Last day the visa is usable for entry/exit

Helpful Tips For Checking Status Easily

Here are some additional recommendations:

  • Bookmark the visa status page link to simplify future access.
  • Set calendar reminders for one month before the shown end date.
  • Regularly cross-verify details like every two to three months.
  • Contact sponsors in advance if looking to extend the visa period.
  • Carry your passport when traveling domestically within expiry period.

I hope this guide has explained the hassle-free five-minute process to monitor your UAE residency validity from any place worldwide using just the basics. Let me know if any part needs more clarification. Always verify details periodically to avoid problems down the line.

A. The application reference is required rather than passport for dependents.

A. Inform your sponsor or call immigration helplines to possibly recover the details.

A. Yes, the system allows reviewing globally using your document specifics from any location.

A. Visit a visa processing center along with sponsors to initiate amendment procedures.

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security has standardised the fine on overstaying your visa in the country.

Tourist and visit visa holders who overstay will pay Dh50 a day instead of Dh100. Also, those overstaying on a residency visa will have to pay double, i.e., Dh50 a day instead of Dh25.

Typing centre agents across the country confirmed the change in fees.

“The fine on a visit visa has been reduced to Dh50 from Dh100. Fine on the residency visa has been doubled,” said Muneer from Tastahel Documents.

These changes have been introduced as part of the sweeping visa reforms announced last month.

“There were several changes introduced last month. The system has been unified,” said Mohammed Shaheed from a typing centre in Mussafah.

Abdul Gafoor, GM Al Mas Businessmen Services, also confirmed the development.

On October 3, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security introduced rules and procedures of the New Visa Scheme for the UAE, coinciding with the official launch of the system.
