Why Choose Alaskan Gamefisher for your next fishing trip?

Our Alaskan Fishing Charters are created specifically with your personal requests in mind. Your trip is truly custom, so we can build your fishing/lodging package however you want it with a combination of saltwater halibut fishing , freshwater salmon fishing , & fly out remote stream salmon fishing , wildlife , & Bear Viewing trips .

Fishing Season

Our saltwater Halibut, & King salmon combo trips start in early May, the only month we fish for both salmon, & halibut the same day in the saltwater fishery. June we will transition our king salmon fishing to the Kenai River all the way thru July, Then in August the feisty Coho, or Silver salmon will be in play in the rivers.

Our fly out trips we can begin to catch silver salmon starting about July 20, sockeye salmon June 5th to Late July on fly outs and on the Kenai river mid July to mid August. We can get into large numbers of saltwater silver salmon over in seward starting early July running into late august. Our Homer Alaska saltwater boat concentrates on halibut only in June, July & August.

About the Guide

Captain Mel Erickson owner & head Guide of Alaskan Gamefisher since 1989 will personally be your Alaska fishing guide for our several fisheries. Kenai River salmon fishing, in June, July & August and on saltwater halibut & King Salmon Combo charters in May, on Cook Inlet, at Anchor Point near Homer.

Captain Mel Erickson is one of very few Alaska fishing guides that personally guides for both Kenai River Salmon, Alaska Halibut, & also owns the boats for both fisheries. This means you will fish both salmon, & halibut with the same guide business and not be sub-contracted out like so many of the other guide services here.

We do have hired Captains that run our salt boat when captain Mel is on the Kenai River putting you on big Kenai river king, & Coho salmon. Captain Mel also personally guides many of the fly out trips, & the Bear viewing trips where we will be very close to Coastal Alaskan Brown Bears.

Captain Mel Erickson Says:

I cannot stress enough the benefits of a private charter for your group only, while we do shared charters where you share the cost of the boat with other anglers, many problems arise from mixed group fishing trips, especially in the saltwater halibut trips. I highly recommend doing the private charters!

30+ Years Of Experience

People return again and again to fish with Alaskan Gamefisher. Our 30 plus years of experience makes the difference. We guarantee your satisfaction and can provide numerous references that will be happy to share their own experiences with you.

Guest Reviews

Just finished a private Salmon/halibut combo trip for 3 of us. May 2018 with Captain Mel Erickson on the Gamefisher near Homer Alaska, Great Time and we will be back, brought home 3 50lb boxes of salmon & halibut.
I have been fishing with Captain Mel Erickson every year for over 20 years, we always do a 6 day/7 night private package usually in August, but been every month of summer. Fishing with Mel is a lot of fun & we always have a great time and bring home lots of fish fillets. The fly out trips are my favorite.

Dale Buckner Amarillo Texas

We did a Bear Viewing tour with Captain Mel Erickson on the Gamefisher, the trip to Lake Clark National Park was amazing, we saw over 30 bears, very beautiful location. I cant believe we were so close to a grizzly bear & Mel is very knowledgable about bears.

Karl laxtas Tampa FL

Thanks again Mel for the excellent fishing trip, you are the best Kenai River salmon guide & always seem to put us on the kings when the other boats are catching nothing. Take care, & see you in 2 years on our next trip.

A special breed of angler flocks to this nook of the world where Alaska fishing lore was born. In Seward, legendary tales boast of salmon runs so thick you can nearly walk across their backs, halibut so huge they're called "barn-doors," and rockfish so plentiful that fishing for them could just be called "catching." For over 20 years, Captain Steve Zernia and the friendly professional team at ProFish-n-Sea Charters have fished these serene and productive waters bringing these grand tales to life for lucky guests.

Let us take you on a truly unique trip to experience an unforgettable day of halibut or salmon fishing in Seward. Our captains are all friendly long-time Alaskan fishermen with a passion for catching big halibut, lingcod, and salmon. Because, on your long awaited fishing charter we know you want to fish with guides who are as excited and focused on the experience as you are. We operate the newest fleet of vessels in Seward, custom designed for safely and successfully fishing Alaskan waters. So, if you are looking for the ultimate Alaska fishing charter, your search is over!

Let ProFish-n-Sea Charters take you on the Alaskan fishing adventure you've only dreamed of!

Alaska Halibut Fishing

Fishing Season: Mar to Oct

Halibut - the fish that made us famous! Over the years we've built a loyal following of savvy anglers who come to Seward, Alaska to chase halibut, the largest flatfish in the world. Heated battles with these stealthy bottom predators have been known to tire arms, destroy tackle, and inspire legends.

Our captains have a passion for halibut fishing and for teaching our guests the techniques most likely to pit them one-on-one with a big halibut. Whether it's working a scampi jig in fluttering bursts above the ocean floor to entice a halibut bite or just dropping a juicy-big bait to the bottom and waiting for the strike, we will coach you every step of the way.

Become part of local halibut fishing lore!

Alaska Salmon Fishing

Fishing Season: King Salmon Mar to Oct; Silver Salmon Jun to Sep; Sockeye Salmon May to Jul; Pink Salmon Jun to Sep; Chum Salmon May to Aug;

Seward has long been recognized as the Silver Salmon fishing capital of Alaska, and for good reason. The fishing here can be as good now as it ever was, and our captains specialize in consistently finding the action. Our salmon fishing trips are hands-on fishing adventures where you might even encounter multiple species of ocean-fresh salmon in the same location. We have selected tackle on the lighter side allowing you to feel the bite and truly experience the one-on-one fight with these aggressive fish.

Silver Salmon are acrobatic fighters that love to leap and thrash, often making several blistering runs before succumbing to the net. That is, if they don't throw your hook first!

The real beast in these waters is the Alaskan King Salmon. Kings are aptly named for the sheer size they can reach, and catching a King Salmon is on the bucket list of many anglers around the world. There is no place more spectacular to check this chrome-bright prize off your list than Seward, Alaska.

Alaska Lingcod and Rockfish Trips

Alaska Lingcod Fishing

Fishing Season: Jul to Oct

Lingcod are a fish with an attitude! With sharp backward-angled teeth and giant-gilled heads, lingcod sure look ferocious. Combined with their extremely territorial demeanor, they are skilled at handily shredding any jig dropped their way. While lingcod are often easy to hook, they prove to be an angry adversary at the end of your line. Anglers love them for the fight - and they taste great too, with a succulent white flesh that rivals halibut. You'll often hook colorful rockfish at the same time - the "family friendly" fish that thrill adults and children alike!

What People Say About Us ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Scott & Rhett at Phantom charters were FANTASTIC! Would highly recommend booking them for your next salmon fishing trip. Very knowledgeable, very personable, and Scott went out of his way to accommodate our father who has a bad back. We caught our limit and then got to do some ‘catch & release’ fishing just for fun. We’ll definitely be back!

We've fished a lot as a family — all different settings all over the world. And this was a REALLY FUN day. Our guide was outstanding — very knowledgable and proactive about getting us in beautiful spots with lots of fish. The whole operation was well thought out and well done. An excellent way to spend a day in Talkeetna! Thank you!

Our guide Hayden was very knowledgeable, took great care of the group, shared a lot of information! Everyone caught a variety of salmon and had a great time doing so. Guide went above and beyond showing us views of the mountains and scenery. We will definitely book again for the next trip and we highly recommend!!

Jeff was an outstanding guide. He was able to put us on fish almost immediately. He was great with our 10 year old grandson. The booking process for the trip went very smoothly. They sent reminders and kept us informed. Highly recommend Phantom.

We had an absolute blast with Scott yesterday. He was very knowledgeable and spot on. His wife Debra makes check in a breeze,. She will even take your wet hip boots off for you is you don’t listen and wade out too far when you have a fish on! Hands down, our best fishing experience ever. Glad to meet the owner Rhett too. Can’t wait to book again with Scott, he’s awesome!

Day Fishing Trips in Alaska: What You Can Catch in Our Waters

Published: july 3, 2019.

Home » Travel Tips » Day Fishing Trips in Alaska: What You Can Catch in Our Waters

If you’re itching to add fishing to your jam-packed Alaska schedule of must-sees and must-dos, you can write your own great fishing story in just a day, half day or even a few hours. No matter how long or brief your Alaska stay, and no matter which part of the Great Land your travels take you, there’s almost always easy-to-access world-class Alaska fishing nearby.

alaska fishing tours

Alaska boasts world-class fishing for a variety of species in both fresh and saltwater.

Of course, some people plan their entire Alaska trips around angling; there are plenty of fish in the sea, lakes, rivers, creeks and other wonderful waterways to keep even the most fanatic fishermen constantly casting and catching. But for most visitors who want to squeeze in as many Alaska adventures as possible, fishing day trips are a perfect fit.

Your time might be short, but your fishing options abound. You can still go big by hopping aboard a charter boat out of most port towns or along the hottest inland salmon runs. Or go even bigger, and venture where few have fished before by hiring a flight to a remote locale. You can keep it simple and still catch big fish by driving to a local hot spot. Depending on where you are, a short walk from your accommodations can find you casting in fish-packed waters.

Here are just some of the day trip options and fantastic fishing finds available across Alaska.

Sensational Salmon Fishing

Salmon is what people come to Alaska to eat and catch. This fish is famous around the world for its deliciousness – when people think of Alaska cuisine, a succulent salmon filet served simply or creatively isn’t far from anyone’s minds. And when it comes to real-deal rod-and-reel action, salmon are also Alaska’s sportfishing superstars: they’re crafty, flip-flopping fun for first-time fishermen and the most experienced angler.

Kings, reds and silvers are the most popular salmon species of the five Pacific salmon when it comes to the taste-and-tenacity combo. Kings live up to their regal names. The average weighs in at around 15 pounds, is burly and ready to give any angler a good fight. While reds run smaller, their meat is renowned for its red hue and rich flavor. Silvers might be the best pound-for-pound fighters, making them sought-after adversaries; their mild meat is appetizing, too.

All summer long in Alaska (and all year long, in some regions), hundreds of thousands of salmon run in the seas, sounds, coves and bays, along coastlines, up rivers and creeks, and even around lakes. And that includes urban areas. In the heart of the Kenai/Soldotna area are the Kenai and Russian rivers, which run thick with salmon all summer and mark the epicenter of Alaska salmon fishing. In fact, all five Pacific species swim these peninsula rivers. Same goes for the Talkeetna area, where the species are all represented and plentiful. Salmon literally swim into downtown Anchorage up Ship Creek. And the picturesque port towns of Homer, Seward, Valdez, Whittier, Cordova, Juneau, Ketchikan, Sitka, Yakutat and Kodiak are all surrounded by salmon.

Check into Chartered Fishing Trips

Want to maximize your time and get the best bang for your fishing buck? Let someone else do all the work while you catch all the fish! When you hire a charter or guide and their crews, they will take care of just about everything: taking you to hot spots you can’t access without a boat, supplying the gear from rod to reel to lures, baiting your hooks, giving you pro tips, untangling the lines, and even fileting the fish. This makes charters perfect for day-long and half-day fishing trips .

alaska fishing tours

Nice catch brought in on a full day halibut charter from Homer

If there’s fishing in the area, there’s likely an armada of professional charter captains and crews waiting to take anglers of all ages and skill levels to where fish are biting. Most offer full-day trips, and many offer half-day ventures. And when it comes to catching and affordability, you’re likely in luck: because it’s a competitive business filled with proud professionals, most charter captains and guides aren’t happy if a chorus of “Fish on!” isn’t heard aboard the boat and their clients aren’t spending their day reeling in fish.

Shop around and find an outfitter that best fits your fishing desires. Deep water boat service targets hulking halibut and the current salmon runs; on-river charters troll spots and banks for salmon, trout and more; serene lake fishing peruses a variety of fine-finned fish; even artsy fly fishing is an option, with specialists who will take you where fly-biting fish are hungry.

For those who go out on the open water, there’s even a bonus: marine wildlife sightings! Your captain and crew will point out whales, orcas, porpoises and anything that might make Alaska visitors smile and grab their cameras. When the boat gets back to the docks after a day of fishing, they’ll also point you in the right direction for fish flash-freezing, packing and shipping, if you so choose.

Take a walk. Have a chat. Make the drive

If you’re a savvy fisherman who brought your fishing gear to Alaska, or purchased some upon your arrival, you can pretty much point your feet or your vehicle in any direction and find some fishing. And there’s a depth of information about Alaska fishing online and in books so you can study up before your casting cram session.

Unsure about your next fishing move? Visit with local outfitters when you’re shopping; chat up fishermen who are casting in local waterways; and track down Fish & Game officials, who are human computers hardwired with fishing facts and ready to download. While fishermen are known to be a secretive sort, most are actually friendly to their fellow fish chasers, especially visitors. Anyone who’s logged serious angling time here knows that there are plenty of fish for everyone.

alaska fishing tours

Fly fishing for salmon in an Alaska stream.

Some urban areas have excellent fishing right in town, probably not too far from your accommodations. No, really! Just ask your host or someone working the front desk. Or follow all the folks walking around town with fishing rods or carrying a string of fish. In Anchorage, it’s destination Ship Creek for salmon runs, a major factor in Field & Stream magazine listing Alaska’s largest town as one of America’s Best Fishing Cities. In Valdez, take a short drive over to Allison Point. If you’re staying in or within driving distance of a port town, you’re in luck. Fish and fishing options are everywhere, including the banks for the towns.

Flying (for) fish

If you’re seeking a special or even a once-in-a-lifetime Alaska fishing experience, don’t take to the water: take to the air! Across Alaska, there are fly-in fishing operations that transport clients deep into Alaska’s wilds for half-day, full-day and multi-day trips to the most pristine places for the most amazing fishing.

The commute is an adventure in its own right; aboard a float plane, you’ll take off from and land on water, and in-between you’ll have a unique perspective over stretches of Alaska that few get to see. Tundra. Mountains. Waterways. It’s all there, stretching out seemingly forever just below you. You might even spy wildlife!

Upon landing and docking, your pilot will outfit you with gear and then the reel fun begins. You’ve landed on lakes loaded with lunkers that are primed for biting and fighting. Or maybe you’ll walk to a nearby river, where they salmon are slamming. Wherever you land, it’s likely a fishing paradise that you’ll never stop reminiscing about.

But telling fishing tales is for later. These fishing settings are surrounded by natural wonders and unexpected peace. It’s just you, your rod and reel, your pilot and perhaps your partner, family member or best friend. Often, the only movement you’ll notice is an eagle perched atop a tall spruce watching you catch the fish they crave, or maybe even an occasional curious beaver or bear. The only disturbance in the tranquility is the sudden fight of the furious fish that just struck your lure, and the celebration of triumph that follows reeling it in. Don’t want this Alaska fishing dream to end? Who can blame you! Make the trip a multi-day stay by flying into a fishing lodge, many of which are the farthest thing from roughing it. You work hard all day, slaying those fish, so you’re welcomed back by gourmet chefs, rustic but well-appointed accommodations, the best in Alaskan hospitality … and, of course, a comfy bed where you can spend the night dreaming of another day of endless fishing.

The Overnight Long Range trip we did this year is absolutely off the charts. We landed over 200 fish, including 16 Halibut over #100 lbs. PLUS a new IGFA World Record Yellow-eye.

Guided Fishing Tours in Alaska

By Mandy Garcia on September 2, 2022

Do you want to book a one-of-a-kind fishing trip? Alaska offers many world-class fishing opportunities. At Salmon Berry Travel Tours , we provide Alaska vacations with add on fishing trips and unmatched experiences. Whether you want to fish for salmon or halibut, we have everything you need to add an exciting Alaska fishing trip to your dream vacation!

There are three levels of fishing…

1. You just want to try it out. Add a half day or full day fishing charter to your Alaska vacation! Our Glaciers, Parks, and Wildlife Travel package has a free day in Seward, a perfect day to add on a salmon & rockfish saltwater charter!

2. You want an all-inclusive fishing trip with roundtrip transportation from Anchorage. Our package includes nice cabins along the river, and great river fishing guides. Practice catch & release for rainbow trout. Or, if the salmon are running, you can keep your catch and get it shipped back home to your freezer!

3. Totally Fishing Focused – an independent trip with a rental car. These itineraries include multiple species, multiple fishing locations, and multiple fishing captains/guides.

Meet your fishing in Alaska expert, Kristin

Before joining Salmon Berry Tours, Kristin planned a variety of fishing trips for locals and visitors alike on the Kenai Peninsula. When she joined our team, she quickly became our go-to expert for fishing itineraries! Organizing both river trips and saltwater charters, Kristin crafts itineraries based on a number of factors.

What questions do we need to start your Alaska Fishing itinerary?

  • Travel Dates?
  • Are you comfortable driving a rental car?
  • Do you want to practice catch & release or keep your fish & ship it home?
  • Did you have a species of fish you would like to fish for?

Additional Fishing Expenses

The following expenses are not included in your fishing charter: Fishing License, Processing/Shipping of Fish, or fishing guide gratuity.

The crew works really hard at baiting your hooks, netting your fish, asking if you want pictures before they clean your fish and taking care of you. Prepare for $50 gratuity per guest unless otherwise noted on your itinerary.

All travelers 16+ years should buy a valid Alaska fishing license. The licenses are available Online or in person.

Processing varies by processor and shipping costs (US destinations only) start at about $6/lb. This is an expense you will pay directly to the processor/shipper. We recommend using the processor/shipper that your captain recommends. Please bring plastic bags with you for your fish to take to the processor.

What should you bring with you?

The atmosphere is informal; casual clothes are suitable here and throughout Alaska. Summer temperatures vary between 45 degrees Fahrenheit and 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Rain is not uncommon. You will be most comfortable if you have clothes that are warm even when damp (wool sweater or polar fleece jacket are best) and decent rain pants and rain jacket. Guests find more comfort bringing a hat, polarized sunglasses, and a light pair of gloves. We fish rain or shine – bring your sense of adventure!

Deep sea fishing vessels will have an inside cabin to get in out of the weather, so dress smart and comfortable. With that said, you won’t catch fish if you are inside! There is a marine head on board.

River fishing drift boats will not have an indoor cabin or facilities. Guests can bring their own waders, or the fishing guides will provide quality waders, wading boots, gear and tackle.

Feel free to bring a cooler or small day bag on board with anything you may want to eat/drink. NO BANANAS or glass bottles for safety and success of our day fishing.

Booking/Cancellation Policy

To start the booking process , you will pay a 50% deposit. The deposit saves your seat as you proceed to make the booking. The remaining fee is due 60 days before the fishing trip starts.

The cancellation of your booking ticket varies based on specific considerations. Most fishing charters have a more strict cancellation fee if you cancel inside 60 days. We highly recommend trip insurance to protect yourself from additional costs associated with cancelling a fishing excursion.  Salmon Berry recommends selecting TravelSafe Insurance at checkout to secure your travel and Alaska fishing trip in case of extreme circumstances.

Halibut, Pike & Trophy Catch & Release Rainbow Season

Alaska is known for some of the best Halibut fishing in the world! But not many associate halibut fishing with shallow water, and jet boats to access the halibut grounds. Due to our location Togiak River Lodge has the ability to offer some of the most unique Halibut fishing in Alaska! We run the ocean boat from the lodge that is six miles up river all the way out to the salt. Because Togiak Bay is a very shallow bay, we are targeting these behemoths in less than 50′ 0f water. Togiak Bay falls in one of the most unregulated Halibut units in all of Alaska.

The Togiak River also has one of the most underrated Rainbow fisheries in Western Alaska. These fish are absolutely ravenous during the month of June as they come out of their winter cycle. Most popularly targeted on mouse patterns skated across the surface, these aggressive bows will leave you with memories of topwater blow ups and acrobatic jumps that will last a lifetime. Pike are also abundant in the side channels and back ponds located within travelling distance from the Lodge. It is not uncommon in some spots to hook 30+ pike. Being as aggressive as they are, you can target them on topwater lures, spinners, flies and swim baits.

Wrestle with the Giants

alaska fishing tours

Trophy Catch & Release King Salmon

The ultimate freshwater salmon trip. The Alaskan Wild King Salmon. Bristol Bay has some of the last remaining true, wild King Salmon that have been untouched by man. On top of that, Togiak River Lodge is the only Lodge on the entire Togiak River system. This gives us exclusive access to these amazing giants. We consider the dates for our “Wrestle with the Giants” season to be the best time frame to specifically target King Salmon.

They are fresh out of the salt and ready to be wrestled with. Within this season we have two time frames specifically dedicated to anglers who want to target these King Salmon on Spey and fly rods. During our spey/fly rotations, we only take a total of 12-14 anglers at the lodge. This gives our anglers the opportunity to spread out and fish exclusive stretches of water. With only fourteen spey fisherman at the lodge, each angler technically has almost 1.5 miles of river to themselves. In effort to promote conservation for King Salmon, all adults over 20 inches are catch and release only. For those who would like to take fish home, the lodge will provide 25 pounds of commercially harvested Salmon from Togiak Bay.

For more information on techniques and gear used to target Togiak King Salmon Check out the King Salmon Info Page .

Angler’s Adventure

alaska fishing tours

Kings, Chums, Sockeye, Pinks, Rainbows & Dolly Varden

The perfect trip to catch a little bit of everything. Angler’s Adventure season offers guests the opportunity to catch four out of the five Pacific Salmon species that the Togiak River has to offer. A typical day usually starts with targeting King Salmon in the morning, and focusing on other species in the afternoon. During this time period the Togiak experiences good numbers of King Salmon and incredible numbers of Sockeye, Chum Salmon, Pink Salmon, Dolly Varden and Rainbows. All of these fish can be targeted on conventional gear or fly rods. Both of which are provided by the lodge.

Whether you want to experience the epic battle that King Salmon have to offer, flossing sockeye on a gravel bar or catching 30 Chum Salmon in a row twitching jigs and everything in between, Angler’s Adventure Season has something to offer for you. Slammin Salmon & More!

alaska fishing tours

Peak of Sockeye, Chums, Pink Salmon, Late Kings, Rainbows & Dolly Varden – Ultimate Time for Fly Fishing

Have you ever seen a couple thousand sockeye swim by your feet in a day? The Togiak River has an absolutely incredible run of Sockeye Salmon that return from Bristol Bay. Slammin Salmon and More Season – falls right in the peak of the Sockeye, Chum and Pink Salmon Season. Rainbows and Arctic Char can be found in abundance up the tributaries that dump into the Togiak feeding on eggs from Spawning Salmon. This is the ultimate time for fly and gear fishermen to experience very high volumes of Salmon in river. It’s a target rich environment!

All of these fish can be targeted on fly rods or conventional gear. The three species of Salmon can be targeted effectively with 1/8-3/8 oz twitching jigs, spinners, weighted clousers and streamers. Rainbows and Arctic Char are most interested in soft or hard beads that are free drifted or fished under a indicator.

July 24th – August 1st. Three, or Four day trips available.

$5,500.00 – 2024 season

$4,600.00 – 2024 season

Discounts available for those who want to combine a 3&4 day trip into a seven day trip

Variety on the Fly

alaska fishing tours

Fresh Silvers, Rainbows, Voracious Dolly Varden

The freshest Silver Salmon of the season, crazy jet boat rides up small streams, Dolly Varden and Rainbows on the fly rod. What more could you ask for? In our humble opinion if you are looking for small intimate river fishing for Rainbows, Arctic Char, Pink Salmon plus some Alaskan Silver Salmon action, this my friend is the time period to join us.

Silver Salmon can be targeted on twitching jigs, spinners and spoons, weighted clousers and streamers. Pink Salmon are much the same as Silvers when it comes to gear that they can be target with, but typically a little less picky. When targeting Rainbows and Arctic Char soft or hard beads that are free drifted or fished under a indicator are most effective as they imitate single eggs coming from Spawning Chums, Sockeye, Kings and Pinks.

August 10th – August 20th. Five day trips Available.

$6,650.00 – 2024 season

Red Hot Silvers!

alaska fishing tours

The Highlight of the Alaskan Silver Salmon Run

What more needs to be said? If you are looking for the most epic, the most mind boggling and exciting time to target Alaskan Silver Salmon on the Togiak. This.Is.It.

If you are looking to catch pure numbers of these acrobatic chrome bullets and have your shoulder fall out of its socket at the end of the day, this is the time to be here. Now let’s not get to carried away. The earlier August dates are good for Silvers. You’ll catch a lot of fish and go home smiling. But this time frame is when the weird stuff starts happening.

Late August and September is when you get the privilege of seeing these fish stack up in numbers you’ve never seen before. By day four you are so bored of catching them on the “go to gear” you switch over to the things you never thought a Salmon would bite. Top water flies, plug cut Jimmy Dean Sausage, spinner baits for bass, and top water frogs. This is when there are so many Silvers you get to be really creative. You get the chance to see 1,000+ fish in one side channel, staged and waiting to go up river to complete their journey. There could not be a better time to see pure volume of Silver Salmon.

For more information on how we target these feisty fellas, check out our Silver Salmon info page:

August 20th – September 16th. Three, Four, or Five day trips.

$6,850.00 – 2024 season

$5,595.00 – 2024 season

$4,600 – 2024 season

Cast and Blast

alaska fishing tours

Silvers and Waterfowl. The Ultimate Sportsman Trip.

Acrobatic Silver Salmon in Gobbs and unpressured waterfowl? We have found the best of both worlds. Southwest Alaska has a very healthy migration of water fowl in September and October as birds start their journey south to Canada and the lower 48. The Togiak River and its estuary is a untapped waterfowl hunters paradise.

On top of these unpressured birds, are great numbers of Silver Salmon and late season rainbows that can be targeted when not in the duck blind. Silvers can be targeted effectively on spinners, spoons, twitching jigs and many other conventional hardware lures. As well weighted pink/purple clouser minnows and and streamers. Rainbows are fiesting ravenoulsy on flesh from a summers worth of spawning Salmon as well as salmon eggs from the remaining spawning Salmon. Thus, they can be targeted on flesh flies and soft or hard beads that are free drifted with or without an indicator.

September 16th – September 24th. Four day trips available. Max of eight guests total

$5,495 – 2024 season

Alaska Day Fishing

Alaska Fishing Trips

Home » Alaska Day Fishing

Alaska day fishing can be an unforgettable experience. We provide you with everything you need for a full day of fishing and fun and the opportunity to catch and release your fish in state waters.

Difference Between Saltwater Fishing and Freshwater Fishing

Saltwater fishing.

A saltwater fishing excursion involves a trip by boat to fish in the ocean or sea. These waters generally do not freeze in any season and often stay at a warm temperature year-round, making saltwater fishing one of the top sports.

Freshwater Fishing

Freshwater fishing is taking fish from freshwater water, such as rivers and lakes. Freshwater fishing includes many techniques: some are done by fly anglers, and regular anglers do others. Since freshwater fish live in shallow water, they are easier to catch than saltwater fish.

Fishing Destination Spots in Alaska

Alaska has some of the best fishing destinations.

Homer is the best place in Alaska for saltwater fishing. Home to world-class beaches, spectacular fishing, and its unique lifestyle, Homer sits at the base of Kachemak Bay, just a short drive from Anchorage.

Bristol Bay

For salmon fishing, go to Bristol Bay. It is a location rich in history and has just about everything you can ask for in a fishing trip: the fish, the weather, the scenery, and a small but vibrant community around the sport.

Kvichak River

Kvichak River is considered an Alaska Peninsula jewel of a fishery, with world-class trout fishing for rainbow and brown trout.

Kodiak Island Archipelago

As a fishing destination, Alaska offers a variety of remote locations. But Kodiak Island Archipelago is a cut above the rest, with world-class king salmon fishing and more opportunities to catch large halibut than most other places.

Why Do Anglers in Alaska Catch and Release Fish?

Increasing numbers of anglers are fishing our accessible waters and remote areas of the state. Continuation of Alaska’s high quality sport fishing depends upon more anglers choosing to practice catch and release when fishing for our resident fish species. An objective of the Division of Sport Fish is to provide a diversity of fishing opportunities while assuring the conservation of Alaska’s stocks of fish. You help do this when you harvest only those fish you will use and release the rest of your catch unharmed. Using catch and release techniques to land your fish when practicing selective harvest also assures that the fish will be in the best possible physical condition when you make the decision to harvest it for food or to release it.

This day trip allows you to fish in some of the best fishing spots in Alaska. All trips are operated by experts who know the best times and locations for fish catching. Contact Alaska Fish On Charters to book your trip today!

EXPERIENCE THE TRIP OF A LIFETIME!

Activities tailored around your testimonials.

Fly fishing trip on Clearwater Creek near Delta Junction. Our guide was extremely helpful. He took us to a mayfly hatch where we caught a ton of arctic grayling. He was very good at coaching and getting us into great spots along the river, mentoring us on grayling tips and behavior, and was very polite.

We caught a TON of Grayling with Mike. He really knows where to find the fish and is a really great guy overall! If you’re not having a good time fishing with Mike, you probably don’t know how to live!

I enjoyed my first guided trip so much, even as a local, that I took my mom out when she came to visit for a fall fishing trip. The scenery was beautiful, Mike our guide was excellent. We caught tons of grayling on spin casters and fly rods. It was a great day, highly recommended!

Full day on the Chena river. We caught lots of fish and had a good time. I even managed to catch a couple of fish on a fly. Scenic surroundings. We brought our own lunch which is the only way to get what you really want.
