Book ¿wine not or paint ‘n’ sip with the orda twins, more than a wine tasting, this is a wine drinking.

Join ¿Wine not?  for fun, fabulous and unpretentious wine tastings and tours in Barcelona. Not only do we try a variety of delicious whites, reds, rosés, cava and vermouths from Catalonia and further afield in Spain, but we enjoy them in a social, lighthearted, party environment. Our wine tastings will leave you more than just a little bit tipsy, with knowledge and confidence to confront Spanish wine lists and with more than just a little bit of drunk love for Spanish wines.

The basic tasting includes a welcome cava, a comparison tasting of Spain’s two most prevalent white wines, and then we’ll try a range of Spain’s famous reds, from light to heavy. What we want to do is: 🍷 Introduce you to some delicious wines from all over Spain, 🥳 Encourage you to really enjoy what you’re drinking, 🥂 Chat a little about tasting techniques, 🍇 Learn about the grapes and the regions we’re enjoying, and above all 🥴  Have a whole lot of fun.

🕰️ Every day from 19:30-21:30 (other times available on request) If you have particular tastes, needs or tasting desires we can tailor the experience to your group. All white wines? Can do! Rosé on the beach? ¿Wine not? Whatever you want, if it involves Spanish wines we can make it happen

Wine tasting is supposed to be fun. We take the snobbery out of discovery.

As the name suggests, ¿Wine Not? is all about drinking the wine, we like to say that we always swallow, never spit when it comes to vino. We won’t bore you with useless advice on how the wine should  taste, but instead give you some information about the region it comes from, the grapes used, any interesting information about the wine’s production – while you taste the wine and tell us what you think. 

While we’re tasting the wines there will be music playing and snacks provided and the conversation will flow just like the very generous glasses of wine we pour up. 

Stoke Travel and ¿Wine Not? offer Barcelona wine tastings for lovers of wine, people who actually love to drink wine, and don’t want to be bored with self-indulgent explanations or underwhelming pours. 

And the best thing about our wine tastings? We make sure that you get all the bang and for not much buck. You’ll be tasting more wine with us, and for less than more boring wine tastings in the city.

White or red? Wine not both? An exploration of Spanish and Catalan wines

We’ll be trying an array of wines from the immediate region, as well as from across Spain; our focus is on providing a diversity of delicious wines. From around Catalunya we’ll try wines from big hitting regions like Priorat and Penedes, but also from Alella – the area around Barcelona – as well as Emproda, Terra Alta, Montsant, Costers del Segre, and Pla del Bages. We travel around and visit small, boutique wineries to find the best wines from around the region for us to sample. 

But we don’t only stick to the immediate region. ¿Wine Not? also has a collection of the most exciting reds from La Rioja, Ribero del Duero, and lesser known areas, like Calatayud, Toro, Somontano, Requeña and Jumilla. We guarantee that we’ll introduce you to new wines and cheaper wine options from around Spain. 

We don’t just stick with the reds, though. We will take you on a journey, from white to reds, sampling Spain’s freshest and most fun summer whites. The quality of white wine is too often overlooked, but we’ll take you to some local white wine regions, like Alella and Penedes, and to further flung zones, like Galicia’s Rias Baixas, with its saltwater influenced whites, the amazing and unrefined whites that come out of Andalucia’s sherry regions, or Rueda, which finds itself nestled between two of Spain’s greatest red regions, but is renowned for its whites.

Let’s make a party of it. We’re here to swallow, not spit, after all. ¿Wine not?

WILL BE BACK

I went on an Andorra trip with Stoke Travel this year and I had a ripper of a time. Seriously these guys can party lmao. The guides were so much fun and likewise, everyone else on the trip were legends. Everything was sorted out for us and it was bloody cheap considering it was a weekend of skiing. 12/10 will be coming back - see you in Croatia !

Sail Croatia & Octoberfest + more to come

I found Stoke travel while looking for a sail Croatia trip then worked out that I could join them for Octoberfest and they definitely did not disappoint! Staff energy and party vibes were as promised and I thought both packages were spot on with value for money. Planning on doing san vino and Sam Fermin’ aka running of the bulls ‘ next year with them. “ if you can’t find the party be the party!”

Incredible time at San…

Had the most incredible time at San Vino! Such an insane party hosted by stoke travel on site and the actual wine fight was nuts The staff were so friendly and helpful and the accommodation and location was sick. Couldn’t recommend enough!

Wow what a party

Wow what a party! The accommodation was basic but enough and what we paid for, but the staff the inclusions and the party was unexpected and went above and beyond the trip that we paid for. Fantastic! Never had so much fun. Oh, we went to Oktoberfest in Munich.

Stoke Travel Barcelona Boat Party

Our boat party in Barcelona with stoke tavel was so much fun! It was the best way to pregame for a fun night out on the town, and an incredbile way to explore a new city! We had plenty of time to sink some drinks, and have a boogie on board the boat. Would go again if I was in town! Great for anyone looking to make new friends and have an unforgettably fun night out! 😀

I came for San Fermin last year

I came for San Fermin last year, no clue what I was expecting but for sure it was a sick time! Only things to nitpick was the tents weren't luxurious and a bit grim, and the campsite was a little far out of the city. BUT for what I paid, can't complain! There were still busses, and I was passed out before I had time to think about the state of the tent. I'll be back for sure, Oktoberfest 2024 heh

Perfect for solo travellers

I don’t normally take the time to leave reviews for places but I need to for Stoke Travel and their Oktoberfest site! I’d read some bad reviews and was apprehensive but the free beer is great, the atmosphere is exactly how I was hoping and every day I met some new friends to go to the festival with. I’ll 100% look at other festivals with Stoke, if you know you’re camping, bring some warm clothes and don’t expect the facilities to be the same as a hotel, then you’ll have the best time like I just have!

Must Read Before Booking with Stoke Travel

Stoke travel is guilty of potentially the worst misrepresentation of accommodation that i've ever seen. We booked what we thought was a reasonably comfortable 8 person dorm in keeping with the hefty 80euro price tag per person per night. Instead we got what can only be described as a 40 man dorm covered in flies, dirty beds and no door! Truly a terrible experience and one that I would not wish on any other traveler. If you are looking to do Running with the Bulls I would not recommend this company as their prices are extremely high relative to what they provide. I have stayed in $5 per night hostels in Asia that were much nicer. If i could give Stoke Travel less than one star i would.

Our very large group checked into a hotel after one night and I recommend you do the same especially as Munich is freezing in September. The staff are mostly rude and unhelpful and the facilities massively oversold - the teepees aren’t waterproof, 1cm roll matts, stained and musty sleeping bags and tents. plus 💩 smeared over the walls of the men’s bathroom, in the women’s shower and in sleeping bags thrown outside between tents. the only thing that’s decent is the drinks …. Which you pre-pay for lol. Definitely not for the faint hearted.

Boat party serious safety issues, near drownings narrowly avoided!

On 29-07-23, our group attended Stoke Travels Paella and Swim boat party event from Barcelona beach. This event turned into near tragedy where at least 4 people very nearly drown. There was a catalogue of failings commencing with the location for the swimming chosen for the swimming, the current too strong and the sea too rough. When people got into trouble it turned out there was no life guard on board. The crew, staff and captain on board were slow to react, and ineffective when they did, only due actions by passengers on board and some who were in the water risking their lives to assist was this avoided. This still resulted in 5 people being stranded 150-200m away from the boat in deep water clinging to two life rings for 40mins before a passing boat got near enough to hear them and rescue them. There was no rescue procedure implemented by staff. Stoke Travel have apologized and do not contest the version of events put to them but say safety of those on board was not their responsibility!

The two worst travel experiences of my life

I made the mistake of booking two Stoke trips at the same time: a week in 'San Sebastien' (using quotes because the surf house is so far out, it's near impossible to get to San Sebastien) and two nights at Oktoberfest. It's really not worth saving the money. The surf house experience was so awful we left early and booked a hotel for the rest of our trip. We did meet some cool people first, and bonded over how disappointing everything was. I should have cancelled the Oktoberfest trip but we'd already booked expensive flights and there weren't many hotels left. Of course, it wasn't any better than San Sebastien - the campground was the worst I've ever stayed in and I wish we'd shelled out for a hotel instead of toughing it out. Customer service was super rude when we followed up about issues. Do yourself a favour and book literally anywhere else. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Trump set to appear at a fundraiser for a creator of his ‘family separation’ policy

Since President Trump left office in 2021 , his Mar-a-Lago mansion in Florida has became a regular staging ground for fundraising events supporting Republican candidates and causes .

This week, attendees will shell out up to $100,000 to support an organization aligned with the issue that appears to be the most animating for Republican voters: immigration and the border.

Trump is slated to appear at a fundraiser Thursday at Mar-a-Lago for the Border911 foundation, according to the organization’s website. The nonprofit was founded last year by Thomas Homan, a former acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, who helped implement and oversee the former president’s controversial “ family separation policy ” and remains a steadfast Trump supporter.

The policy led to the separation of about 5,000 children from adult family members who were detained for criminal prosecution under the Trump-era “ zero tolerance ” policy. A federal judge eventually blocked the separations, and some children have still not been reunited with their families.

Recent polling in battleground states shows Trump leading, and immigration appears to be part of the reason why.

Republicans see opportunity in President Biden’s unpopularity among voters over the border issue. Though Trump has been circumspect on whether he’d re-institute family separation, he spoke at a rally in Wisconsin this week about crimes allegedly committed by migrants, saying there had been “an invasion of our country.”

In a written statement, Trump spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said “the millions of illegals Biden has resettled across America should not get comfortable because very soon they will be going home.”

“Immediately upon President Trump’s return to the Oval Office, he will restore all of his prior policies, implement brand new crackdowns that will send shockwaves to all the world’s criminal smugglers, and marshal every federal and state power necessary to institute the largest deportation operation in American history,” Leavitt said.

Immigration advocates and Biden supporters slammed Trump’s scheduled appearance alongside figures such as Homan, who they say presided over a uniquely cruel policy.

“They don’t talk about family separation but with this event, he’s saying it out loud, that he is for this type of cruelty,” said Beatriz Lopez, deputy director of the advocacy group Immigration Hub. “He will round up and deport people who are here and have been contributing to this country.... He will restore all the cruel policies of the past that most voters soundly rejected.”

They also bashed the presumptive Republican nominee’s views and rhetoric on the subject, saying they stoke fear among Americans and divide the country.

“Trump demonizes immigrants, calling them ‘animals’ and saying they are ‘poisoning the blood of the nation,’” said Biden campaign co-chair Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-Texas) in a written statement.

“He isn’t interested in real solutions to fix our broken immigration system — he’s focused on turning people against one another and stirring up hate because he believes it will help him politically.”

According to his campaign, Trump wants to end birthright citizenship for the children of immigrants who lack legal status and limit these children’s access to passports and Social Security numbers. He also wants to issue an executive order dictating that children born in this country must have one parent who is an American citizen in order for them to also to become a citizen.

Homan and Border911 representatives didn’t respond to requests for comment. But their goal “is to educate Americans on the facts of border security and when America votes for our leadership, they will understand the devastation, the facts, the causes, and results, so they can make an informed decision,” according to the group’s website. Trump has stated repeatedly he’d like to find a job for Homan in his administration if he wins in November.

ABC News reported last month that the goal of the event would be to raise money to mount a tour of battleground states in advance of the November election.

Tickets for the event start at $1,200 and go up to $100,000. “VIP Tickets” include a “photo op with Border911 team and special guests,” according to the group’s website, which says the event is sold out.

Homan hosted a fundraiser in 2023 at Mar-a-Lago for an organization supporting people who had been arrested for participating in the Jan. 6 insurrection. He spent most of his career in border enforcement and the Atlantic magazine described him as the “father” of the family separation policy . As of summer last year, researchers found that about 1,000 children still had not been reunited with their parents or family.

Homan, who campaigned with Trump during the primary, has defended the policy, saying it deterred people from coming across the border.

“I’m sick and tired hearing about the family separation,” the Hill newspaper reported Homan as saying last year at a conservative political event. “You know, I’m still being sued over that, so come get me. ... Bottom line is, we enforced the law.”

“When I was a cop in New York and I arrested a father for domestic violence, or someone for [driving under the influence], I separated that family,” he added later. “When you violate the law with a child, you’re going to be separated.”

In December, U.S. District Judge Dana Sabraw approved a settlement between the American Civil Liberties Union and the federal government blocking for eight years the federal government from separating families for purposes of stymieing immigration. The same judge in 2018 had ordered an end to separations and demanded that children be reunited with their families.

The practice was “brutal, offensive and fails to comply with traditional notions of fair play and decency,” Sabraw wrote.

The federal government is still allowed to separate children but in very limited cases — such as if a parent poses a threat to kids or if the parent is convicted of serious crimes. The Times reported in December that families had been separated last year — long after Trump had left office — while being processed at the U.S.-Mexico border near San Diego. This had more to do with the volume of people appearing at the border rather than a zero-tolerance policy, officials said.

Immigration advocates are not comforted by restrictions on blanket policies that would block the separation of children from their parents. Todd Schulte, president of the group FWD.us, said Trump’s repeated disregard for the rule of law and stated desire to reduce the number of people coming across the border and deport individuals without legal status are cause for concern.

“That [ACLU] settlement is key , and it’s important. It’s absolutely the law,” Schulte told The Times. “But there are so many horrible things that President Trump and his team have promised to do. There’s every reason to ask, would they do this again?”

Quite disappointing

It’s not what you see in the pictures but I will start with some pluses. + Lady who was leading the event was nice (with limited knowledge about wines she presented though) + people who took part managed to create good atmosphere Unfortunately, giving the price, whole event was disappointing. Setting was different, there were only cheap chips and olive oils to eat which were served in the plastic plates and ran out very fast. I add pictures to show how table looked like. It’s a good way to meet people but way overpriced for what you receive from organizators.

However, as stated in our description, we pride ourselves on being an unpretentious and friendly wine tasting experience that is different from others in the city. Our aim is to provide our customers with the opportunity to learn about Spanish wines, socialize, drink lots of wine and even dance on our incredible rooftop terrace with views over the city and located on Passeig de Gracia, one of Barcelona's most renowned avenues. While we do not focus on the quality of our snacks as our main emphasis is on wine, we ensure that our selection of wines from Spain is of high quality. We hope that you can appreciate our unique approach to wine tastings.

Amazing experience! It's way more than just a wine tasting. I would say It's more a wine party. Of course we learnt some things about spanish wines but what we love the most was the beautiful centric location, the insane amount of wine we drinked and the guide, who was a super fun aussie dude.

Such a must whilst you’re in Barcelona! Jimmy was fantastic, he went over and above, greeting us from the start and giving us the absolute best evening. Couldn’t recommend more!!! We were a group of 12 girls on a hen do and Jimmy read the room (rooftop!) he understood we all loved wine and wanted to learn but he made it fun. Booked this trip a month in advance of our vacation. 2 days before the boat party they messaged and said they were cancelling bc they “didn’t sell enough tickets” and had rebooked us on a day we weren’t even going to be in Barcelona anymore. I advised them of this, and they said they processed a refund-haven’t received money yet so we’ll see. But overall bad experience and bad business practice. People make their plans around specific things, and to cancel bc you “didn’t sell enough tickets” that’s the cost of doing business friends. Some days will be busy, some will be slow. Basically, you can book this-but there’s no guarantee that you’ll actually get to go, since they don’t care about your experience, only about the money.

Is Dyson’s New, Nearly $1,000 Stick Vacuum Worth It? Probably Not.

Dyson cordless stick vacuums have become something of a status symbol , with new machines being unleashed almost as frequently as iPhones. But true innovations and improvements are rare. (Finally ditching the much-hated trigger-style control for a button was a change that actually mattered, albeit an industry standard on even the cheapest sticks.)

We’ve tested numerous Dyson stick vacs over the years, and we recommend them for their excellent combination of power, agility, and fun and useful features. The best Dyson cordless stick vacs —like our pick, the V12 Detect Slim —make cleaning almost a pleasure.

One of Dyson’s latest stick vacs, the Gen5detect , came out in 2023 with a torrent of superlatives : It has the fastest and most efficient motor, longest run time, and most powerful suction of any other Dyson stick vacuum. With its peacock-hue design, it’s also flashier than ever. But is it worth the upgrade—and the nearly $1,000 price tag?

I tested the beefed-up Gen5detect for a week, comparing it against the V12 Detect Slim. I found the Gen5detect to be a great cleaner with a couple of meaningful upgrades. But it also felt clunkier and less versatile. Here’s what to know if you’re considering one.

The research

What we like about the dyson gen5detect, what we don’t like about the dyson gen5detect, should you get it.

It’s a powerful cleaner (but so is the V12 Detect Slim). To assess the Gen5detect’s cleaning prowess, I let dust, debris, and pet fur accumulate on a vintage Persian rug. I divided the rug into two equal sections, vacuumed one side with the Gen5detect and the other with the V12 for 30 seconds each, and then weighed the contents of each vac’s dustbin.

To my surprise, the V12’s bin contained slightly more debris than that of the Gen5detect. It’s possible that one side of the rug was inexplicably dirtier, and we’ll continue evaluating the Gen5detect in controlled testing . But it’s clear that despite its souped-up specs, the Gen5detect doesn’t immediately eclipse the V12 in real-world cleaning.

It has an extra-large bin and battery. The Gen5detect’s biggest improvement might be the size of its dustbin: Its 0.2-gallon capacity is double the V12’s, which saved me the hassle of frequent trips to the trash can. The larger battery means the Gen5detect can run for about 20 minutes longer than the V12. (Both features make the Gen5detect much heavier, as we discuss below.)

It has upgraded cleaner heads and tools. The Gen5detect’s Motorbar cleaner head has some cool upgrades from that of the V12. For example, it has sensors that automatically optimize run time and suction power based on floor type. It also features an adjustable bleeder, which allows you to modify the suction manually. (I found this helpful when vacuuming a light kilim rug that tends to easily lift off the floor.)

Like the V12, the Gen5detect comes with Dyson’s Fluffy Optic cleaner head that’s made of soft microfiber fabric, which worked great on bare floors.

The Gen5detect also has an onboard combination tool that’s concealed within the wand and slides out effortlessly when the wand is detached, transforming the stick vac into a convenient handheld unit.

It has other cool (but familiar) features. The Gen5detect’s LCD screen shows even more alerts than that of the V12. It warns you when the machine is too hot or too cold and if you insert a non-Dyson battery. The features that I liked the most on the Gen5detect—battery countdown, an on/off button, and a green laser light that eerily detects dust (and guilts me into vacuuming under the couch more frequently)—are already present on the V12.

Its filtration is excellent (with a caveat). The Gen5detect (and its even larger sibling, the Gen5outsize ) offers HEPA filtration that Dyson says can capture particles as small as 0.1 microns. Dyson says the V12 Detect Slim’s HEPA filter is said to capture particles down to 0.3 microns.

In an email exchange, James McCrea, a lead mechanical engineer at Dyson, described the filtration of the Gen5detect and the V12 as “roughly the same,” with the difference being that the Gen5detect was tested specifically on influenza A (H1N1) and MS2 bacteriophage. The V12 Detect Slim hasn’t been tested on viruses, McCrea said.

But how valuable is better filtration if you inadvertently inhale what you’re trying to avoid when you open and empty the dustbin? Scientists have found that even just walking on carpet can pump pathogenic microorganisms back into the air, and so does the increased airflow velocity created by any vacuum cleaner. If pathogens are on your mind, buy a bagged machine .

It’s heavy—and big. Stick vacs are supposed to be nimble and dynamic. But at almost 8 pounds, the Gen5detect feels heavy—particularly when compared with the V12 Detect Slim, which weighs just over 5 pounds. The Gen5detect’s heft is mostly thanks to its significantly larger and heavier battery and motor. Since almost all of its weight sits right below your hand and wrist, the Gen5detect is noticeably less comfortable and convenient to maneuver than its smaller cousin. At the end of a 20-minute cleaning session (forget 70 minutes!), my shoulder was sore.

The Gen5detect’s bigger size makes it less convenient to store. I keep my V12 wedged between the kitchen counter and windowsill, where I used to keep a broom. The Gen5detect wouldn’t fit in this narrow space. Also, similarly to the V12, the Gen5detect isn’t able to stand on its own.

It’s not a good choice for delicate carpets or rugs. If you have heirloom carpets or delicate rugs, you should probably skip a Dyson cordless stick vac entirely. Both the Gen5detect and the V12 pulled out a significant amount of carpet fiber from my Persian rug.

Benjamin Mini, head of the rugs and carpets department at the auction house Bonhams Skinner , advises against vacuuming vintage or antique rugs with a motorized brush roll. He pointed out that Dyson vacuums, which don’t let you turn off the brush roll, are especially problematic. “That’s like a razor, if you’ve ever seen it. It really tears into carpet,” said Mini, who recommends suction-only nozzles for delicate rugs. For carpets and rugs , we recommend a high-quality corded vacuum that allows you to turn off the brush roll.

It still comes with all the trade-offs of a stick vacuum. No cordless vacuum offers the cleaning power, versatility, and run time of a high-quality plug-in model . Cordless vacs require a decent amount of maintenance to operate well, still typically have shorter lifespans than plug-ins, and rely on toxic lithium-ion batteries. On the plus side, the Gen5detect and the V12 are covered by a two-year warranty, and Dyson offers to recycle used batteries and machines received via its six Demo Stores and its 45 service centers.

If you live in a small home with a few rugs and want nothing to do with cords, the Dyson V12 Detect Slim is still the best choice for most people. Like a peacock flaunting his beautiful feathers, the Dyson Gen5detect is impressive, but not a true high-flier. Its upgrades detract from the convenience, ease, and comfort of a leaner, meaner stick vac like the V12. The Gen5detect feels more like a full-size vac that still needs to be charged and can’t stand up on its own. But at least it’s not as noisy as a peacock.
