Steve Byrne vs NYC

  • Tue | April 23rd - 7:00PM | Midtown
  • Steve Byrne vs NYC
  • Comedy veteran Steve Byrne has seemingly done it all and continues to push himself to accomplish even more. Starting over 20 years ago and cutting his teeth in all the major clubs in NYC, including the Comedy Cellar, he then ventured off to Los Angeles, began working at the Comedy Store and Hollywood Improv, and his career really took off. After becoming a regular on the late-night talk show circuit and even doing "The Tonight Show" ten times, Steve racked up multiple hour specials on Comedy Central, Netflix, and Showtime. In 2012, he starred in, produced and wrote the TBS hit show "Sullivan & Son", which ran for 3 seasons. Through the show, he cultivated a deep appreciation for storytelling, and in 2019 released his first film, "Always Amazing", a documentary about comic/magician the Amazing Johnathan. In 2020, Steve wrote and directed the indie feature "The Opening Act", his love letter to stand-up comedy, that garnered critic and audience ratings on Rotten Tomatoes at 82 and 83% Fresh. In 2022, he released his fifth hour special, "The Last Late Night", on Amazon Prime, his most innovative work to date and rated 5/5 stars – an hour special disguised as a late-night talk show. Steve continues to tour relentlessly, work on material, and is currently casting his next film that he wrote and will direct towards the end of this year.

13 Comedy Clubs for Great Stand-Up and Improv in New York

comedy tour nyc

By Sean L. McCarthy

Despite the claim made in 2020 by a comedy club owner that the pandemic effectively rendered New York City “dead forever,” it is still very much alive and so is its vibrant comedy scene — which merely adapted, survived and continues to thrive. Clubs such as Dangerfield’s may have shuttered, but the city remains perhaps the best incubator, for comedians old and new. Here are some of our favorites for live shows.

The Bell House

149 Seventh Street, Brooklyn; thebellhouseny.com .

A fixture in Gowanus since it opened in 2008, this club has a main hall that seats more than 200, with standing room for another few hundred to see the biggest names who have graduated from the indie bar scene. Dan Licata and Joe Pera (from Adult Swim’s “Joe Pera Talks With You”) host “The Dan Joe Snowman Show” on Tuesdays. The club’s owners, City Farm Presents, also operate a smaller club, Union Hall , in nearby Park Slope, and host summer events at Industry City in Sunset Park.

21A Clinton Street, Manhattan; caveat.nyc .

This 120-seater on the Lower East Side is open to performers of all stripes and types who are passionate about their interests. Sundays feature RaaaatScraps, a weekly all-star improv collective born out of the ashes of the Upright Citizens Brigade’s ASSSSCAT. The club livestreams some of its shows.

Comedy Cellar

117 Macdougal Street, Manhattan; comedycellar.com .

As seen on Comedy Central’s “This Week at the Comedy Cellar,” which aired just before the pandemic, this club promises A-list talent and surprise drop-ins, so audience members are asked to put their phones in pouches so they cannot record the action. Lineups for the coming week are updated every Thursday on the website. There are eight shows during the week, and up to 15 on weekends at the Cellar and its sister clubs, Village Underground and Fat Black Pussycat, around the corner on West Third Street. You need to purchase two food or drink items during a show.

The Comic Strip

1568 Second Avenue, Manhattan; comicstriplive.com .

This is the last of the city’s old-school comedy clubs. Its owner, Richie Tienken, died in 2021 , but the Upper East Side haunt that started the careers of Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Adam Sandler and more continues to showcase stand-ups nightly. Jerry Seinfeld refurbished the place to film his 2017 Netflix special. You need to purchase two food or drink items during a show.

Gotham Comedy Club

208 West 23rd Street, Manhattan; gothamcomedyclub.com .

A favored drop-in spot for the likes of Seinfeld and Jim Gaffigan during weeks when they’re not touring, this Chelsea club has spawned several TV showcases in the years since it opened in 1996. The most reliable lineups are on Tuesday nights thanks to “ComedyJuice.” The club has a two-drink minimum.

Littlefield

635 Sackett Street, Brooklyn; littlefieldnyc.com .

The back of this bar in Gowanus seats 100 with standing room for another 200. It is a hot ticket for several of its stand-up and variety shows, in particular for Monday night’s “Butterboy,” hosted by Jo Firestone, Maeve Higgins and Aparna Nancherla, with music from D.J. Donwill; and for the monthly Saturday performances of “Tinder Live With Lane Moore.”

New York Comedy Club

241 East 24th Street and 85 East Fourth Street, Manhattan; newyorkcomedyclub.com .

With two locations on the East Side, these clubs host multiple nightly shows that feature up-and-comers you might recognize from their late-night TV appearances or hit podcasts. Michael Kosta, a correspondent for “The Daily Show With Trevor Noah,” hosts a new joke showcase, “Nice Try,” on Tuesday nights at the East Village location. You need to spend a minimum of $18 on beverages or snacks during a show.

27-16 23rd Avenue, Queens; qedastoria.com .

Fun fact: More New York City comedians still choose to live in Astoria than anywhere else in the city. So you never know who you’ll see performing in this neighborhood club, an intimate 74-seater that features a book and gift shop by the bar. On Fridays, Katie Boyle and Lindsay Theisen host “Transplants Comedy Show,” in which comedians from out of town tell jokes and stories about New York, as well as their hometowns.

116 East 16th Street, Manhattan; thestandnyc.com .

This club’s owners, Patrick Milligan and the brothers Cris and Paul Italia, recently bought an old Staten Island ferryboat with Pete Davidson and Colin Jost from “Saturday Night Live” to turn it into their next comedy destination. For now, though, the two rooms in their current location, just west of Union Square, host multiple stand-up showcases and podcast recordings nightly.

West Side Comedy Club

201 West 75th Street, Manhattan; westsidecomedyclub.com .

Located below the Mexican restaurant Playa Betty’s and serving food from there, this relatively new Upper West Side spot hosts comedy shows most weeks from Tuesday to Saturday. You need to purchase two food or drink items during a show.

Inside the World of Comedy

Kevin Hart became the 25th comic  to receive the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor from the Kennedy Center.

The joke writers for awards shows like the Oscars are a corner of the showbiz work force that tends to remain in the shadows. The job requires skill, self-awareness and even diplomacy .

Comedians, no strangers to tackling difficult and taboo subjects with humor, are increasingly turning their attention to the climate crisis .

Delivering a deluge of hard jokes, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler tried stand-up for the first time as a double act, aiming directly for the nostalgic pleasure centers of their fans .

Dave Chappelle assumes we’re already offended in his new Netflix special , “The Dreamer,” which predictably includes trans and disabled jokes.

Was a scandal the best thing to happen to Hasan Minhaj ? It repositions him less as a righteous political comic than a more self-questioning, personal comic.

All Of Me Tickets

All Of Me Tickets

Group photo of All Of Me cast in NYC.

About All Of Me

It’s your classic romantic comedy. Boy meets girl. Boy uses a wheelchair, girl uses a scooter, and they both use text-to-speech technology to connect to the world around them. They come from different worlds, but love pulls them together when their families push them apart. All of Me is a boldly humorous and candid love story exploring class and disability in America today.

From its initial run at Barrington Stage in 2022, director Ashley Brooke Monroe and original cast members Madison Ferris and Danny J. Gomez return alongside Lily Mae Harrington, Florencia Lozano, Brian Morabito, and Kyra Sedgwick for this hilarious and candid portrayal of class and disability by Laura Winters.

As a standup comedian Shane has appeared on CONAN (twice), THE LATE SHOW WITH STEPHEN COLBERT, NBC’S LAST COMIC STANDING, HALF HOUR SPECIAL WITH COMEDY CENTRAL, and THIS WEEK FROM THE CELLAR on Comedy Central just to name a few. He released his debut album "Established 1981" with Comedy Central records to rave reviews in 2018. You can see him touring all around the world at comedy clubs, concert venues, and some of the most prestigious festivals. Shane has been heard on popular podcasts such as BERTCAST, COMEDY BANG BANG, ALL FANTASY EVERYTHING, GUYS WE FUCKED, SAVAGE LOVE PODCAST, DOUG LOVES MOVIES, RISK and a slew of more. His podcast NO ACCOUNTING FOR TASTE with Kyle Kinane is available via ALL THINGS COMEDY wherever you get your podcasts. Shane has been seen acting alongside household names for NBC’S RED NOSE DAY and on IFC’S COMEDY BANG BANG. In 2019 Shane was one of a handful of comedians invited to perform on Will Smith’s THIS JOKA. Shane has also hosted his own series for Comedy Central called SHANE TORRES CONQUERS YOUR FEARS and a show for Paramount Plus named HOW GOOD CAN IT GET WITH SHANE TORRES. Shane has also been seen as a panelist on multiple television shows across a variety of networks. He has been reviewed by numerous media outlets including The New York Times, Onion AV Club, GQ UK, and more. “Mr. Torres has a laconic drawling delivery with deliberate pacing, placing him firmly in the tradition of dry deadpan specialists like Tig Notaro and Todd Barry. But his style is warmer, relying on punchlines with corkscrew turns that have moments of vulnerability and even melancholy.” — The New York Times.LeClerc Andre made his first splash on the scene as a featured new face at the prestigious Just For Laughs Comedy Festival. Since then, he has made his network television debut on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and continues to work clubs and colleges across the country. He recorded his first comedy album, I am LeClerc, live at New York Comedy Club in the Spring and it is set to release this winter.Joe Praino is a comedian, actor and podcast host, who was honored to be part of the elite “New Faces” showcase at the Just For Laughs Montreal Comedy Festival 2019. He has two successful podcasts: the baseball centric Dirty Slides (with Andy Lazarus) and Dirty Sports (with Andy Ruther), which is approaching it’s 1,000 th episode, and showcases his immense depth of sports knowledge. He has interviewed the likes of comedy writer/director David Zucker, NFL stars Shawn Merriman and Pat McAfee, celebrity personal trainer Duffy Gaver and NBA star Brian Scalabrine. Praino performs standup at several clubs across the country and in Canada, including Gotham Comedy Club, The Stand, The Cellar, The Laugh Factory, House of Comedy, The Improv, Flappers and the Westside Comedy Theater. A native New Yorker, Praino worked the club circuit and was a CBS Page and a Desk Assistant at the Evening News With Dan Rather before standup comedy eventually won out as his full-time pursuit. He earned regular spots at the Comic Strip Live and Boston Comedy Club and he hosted his own variety show, Miscellaneous, at Galapagos in Brooklyn. Praino has had several indie film roles and appearances on “The Curse of Von Dutch” (Hulu) “Now We’re Talking,” and several episodes of “ESPN Instant,” with some of his favorite analysts and commentators. A sports enthusiast, he’s had the distinct, mind-blowing honor of throwing out the first pitch at a Mets game and he’s taken up golf, which was once on his “things not to do list.” Praino lives in sunny CA with his surf board and foster dogs.

I learned a surprising amount about comedy in a short amount of time and I felt so confident by the time of the show. As a first timer, it was exactly what I needed. Jocelyn facilitated a beautiful group culture of approval, acceptance, and creativity amongst us."- Hailey Marino"Jocelyn had crafted the course so perfectly that by week 5 all of us had our set ready for the final performance. She does not hold back on sharing pro tips on generating new material, nailing stage presence and rising through the industry. She created a very supportive environment and many new jokes and punchlines were made while we were laughing our heads off in class."- Macy Kwok."Jocelyn is not only a talented comedian, but also a gifted coach! During her workshop she helped me enhance my skills in both my delivery and writing. She shared her tried and true techniques, and made the whole workshop experience a lot of fun. Jocelyn's encouragement and coaching also helped me audition for and win a residency at a comedy club in NYC!"- Kimberly Blanchard"My feelings about our class can be best summarized in this classic song (I've Had The Time of my Life) My friends who came to our showcase raved about every single set, and remembered jokes from everybody. They were amazed at how we all had such distinct voices, even though lots of us were just starting out and we'd studied with the same person. Jocelyn, you are such a gifted teacher. If you decide to teach again, I'm desperate to give you my money!"- Rebecca Miller"It was a pleasure to take comedy classes with Jocelyn in the Summer of 2019. Jocelyn is simultaneously professional, kind, and frankly just good at what she does, making her an ideal teacher / mentor. I took these classes for fun and to improve my public speaking, which is exactly what I got out of the program. The classes are worth every dollar and the group of women who took the class were genuinely supportive. Highly, highly recommend for those dipping their toes into comedy."- Julia Huebner"Jocelyn crafted the course so perfectly that by week 5 all of us had our set ready for the final performance. She does not hold back on sharing pro tips on generating new materials, nailing stage presence and rising through the industry. Pick of the Day: Rodney’s Comedy Club Grand Opening/Peace in the Upper East ! A Jewish and Muslim Christmas Eve Comedy Show (in NYC) 12/24

Once upon a time, the late comedy legend Rodney Dangerfield had his very own comedy spot, the eponymous Dangerfield’s . Located on the outer edges of Midtown Manhattan. For the longest time, the place has been collecting dust (and, almost as a bit, there was a “Dangerfield’s 2” out here in LA that was technically run out of someone’s apartment).

Well, nearing the sunset of 2023, a new era for Dangerfield’s is coming; the arrival of what will now be called  Rodney’s Comedy Club . Same location, but all spiffed up not unlike Rodney himself. In fact, they’ll be having their Grand Opening show on Christmas Eve this Sunday at 8:30PM.

NYC comedy heavyweights Usama Siddiquee, Harrison Greenbaum, Che Durena, and Eman El-Husseini will be kicking things off for what will double as a grand opening and a Peace in the Upper East ! A Jewish and Muslim Christmas Eve Comedy Show . If you’re in NYC, it might be worth altering your Christmas Eve plans; just sayin’.

Tickets for Rodney’s Comedy Club Grand Opening/Peace in the Upper East ! A Jewish and Muslim Christmas Eve Comedy Show are $20 (plus two drink min.). Go get them  here !

Pick of the Day: LET’S MAKE A POOP FEAT. TRIUMPH THE INSULT COMIC DOG (NYCF) 11/6

Many things will endure in the collective memories of Gen-Xers and Millennial fans of Conan O’Brien and one of the most unforgettable of those things would be the Robert Smigel creation that is  Triumph the Insult Comic Dog . A grandmaster of the man-on-the-street style of interview, Smigel’s dog puppet covered hand and his vaguely European gravel-y accent and some of the sickest burns and a constantly dropped cigar made an indelible impression in the world of late night and still lives on in laughs when remembering things like Triumph hanging with Star Wars fans or going to any political convention.

So, it shouldn’t go without saying that a very special New York Comedy Festival evening with Triumph the Insult Comic Dog lined up for Nov. 6th at 8PM at the Murmrr Theatre should be an immediate buy. Take care of that at $31.14 a pop here .

Pick of the Day: Ben Wasserman’s Live After Death: Greenwood Cemetery (in NYC) 10/26

OK OK, we know have told you plenty of times about Ben Wasserman’s brilliant, absurd, joyful, tear-filled, but altogether beautiful experimental solo comedy/grief show Live After Death .  Wasserman has earned every word of praise to be sure.

That said, we’d like to highlight that Ben is closing off this latest run of  Live After Death in the historic Green Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn. First off, it’s a gigantic, centuries-old cemetery that’s one of the most interesting sites in all of Brooklyn (which is saying something). Secondly, Ben has played many a funeral home/mortuary service with his very unique show, but playing Live After Death   in one of America’s most historic cemeteries is a whole other thing entirely and sure to be a very, very, very special edition of the show (even if you’ve seen the show already multiple times). It’s worth the $50 ticket to be sure.

These final (for now?) performances of Live After Death are set for Thurs. Oct. 26th at 7PM & 9:15PM and you really ought to buy a cheaper Halloween costume so you can get tickets to this. Do so here .

Pick of the Day: Justice John Hodgman LIVE (in NYC) 6/29

Justice John Hodgman has always stood for the people where other courts, whether government sanctioned or simply on daytime television, fall short. This Summer, the Honorable Justice John Hodgman is coming to the people more than he ever has with a big live episode at NYC’s venerable Lincoln Center .

The problems that are very valid, but other lawyers and legal professionals would deem to banal for a courtroom will be heard by Hodgman and his bailiff Jesse Thorn on Wed. Jun. 29th at 8PM ET . Best of all, this show is completely FREE to attend (a true treat when it comes to being at the Lincoln Center). You can just show up or snag one of a limited amount of advance reservations .

Also, if you would like the chance to have your day in Hodgman’s court and solve that nagging problem that all your friends don’t want to hear about anymore in front of big NYC live audience, submit your claim here .

Pick of the Day: GO BACK TO WHERE YOU CAME FROM! with Wajahat Ali and Hari Kondabolu (in NYC) 2/23

As the world opens up yet again (and we sincerely hope it sticks this time around), many folks are re-acclimatizing themselves to the thing that so many of us took for granted, talking to one another. In this reboot of our conversational and empathy skills, we hope that we’ll be better this time around.

In that spirit, you should watch and enjoy the upcoming conversation between brilliant comedian Hari Kondabolu and writer Wajahat Ali about Ali’s book GO BACK TO WHERE YOU CAME FROM : AND OTHER HELPFUL RECOMMENDATIONS ON HOW TO BECOME AMERICAN. They’ll have an earnest and blunt chat about being more inclusive and accepting of brown folks of all kinds here in America.

GO BACK TO WHERE YOU CAME FROM! with Wajahat Ali and Hari Kondabolu is set to go live and in person on Wed. Feb. 23rd at The Bell House in Brooklyn at 7:30PM ET. Tickets are $15 right now and you can (and should) go get them here .

Pick of the Day: Hasan Minhaj: The King’s Jester (in NYC 2/25-2/27 & LA 4/24 & 4/26)

Hasan Minhaj’s stellar comedy special Homecoming King came out in 2017 on Netflix, which is awhile ago, but feels even longer for the seemingly interminable amount of time that has made up the last two years. Since that time, Minhaj made his presence known through his very own topical late night comedy show  Patriot Act  (we’ll always think that was a horrible call on Netflix’s part to cancel it) and then got a key role in the second season of The Morning Show . Oh yeah, he just launched his very own production company 186K Films and is building his own entertainment empire.

We’re thankful that doing stand-up/storytelling on stage is still part of that ascent as Minhaj is currently on tour with his brand new hour  The King’s Jester . He’s touring throughout the country, but will specifically be stopping by Radio City Music Hall in NYC from Feb. 25th-27th (tickets for 25th still available) and coming around LA via Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa on Apr. 24th and Thousand Oaks’ Bank of America Performing Arts Center on Apr. 26th.

Tickets start around $45 and go up from there. You really ought to get them sooner rather than later, especially if you wanna snag ones at that price. Get tickets for all the aforementioned dates at hasanminhaj.com .

Pick of the Day: Sarah Squirm: Live + In The Flesh (in NYC) 2/11

You’ve seen her and been charmed by her take downs of Colin Jost and her wild characters on SNL for weeks now and, we hope like us, that one Sarah Squirm AKA Sarah Sherman has captured your veiny, throbbing, heart.

As her time is currently dedicated to Saturday Night Live , there might not be so much time where you can catch Sarah throw one of her spectacular body-horror-comedy extravaganzas centered around much of her stand-up and DIY multi-disciplinary art. You should really take any chance that you possibly can to catch her and whatever the hell she has up her beautiful patchwork-sewn or hand-painted sleeve.

Sarah will be Live + In the Flesh at NYC’s TV Eye on Fri. Feb 11th for an early 8PM ET & late 10:30PM show . Currently, tickets are sold out, but watch @sarahsquirm on socials closely as there could be tickets released or there be a stand-by line or even another show or shows added.

Pick of the Day: Dylan Adler: Hit That Track (in NYC) 2/18

We might have told you before (and we will definitely tell you again in our best 100 year end list) that Dylan Adler is one of the funniest people that we got to see for the very first time in 2021. His vulnerable, personal, dark, physical (and often musical) comedy had us doubled over when we first saw it on a rooftop in DTLA earlier this year and it’s imperative to us that you go catch Dylan wherever he’s playing. Thankfully, for New Yorkers, that’s all over town all the time (and perhaps in LA in January).

Adler is actually doing his very own full length show that is a treat that no one in around the NYC’s LES should miss.  Hit That Track will have Dylan headline Caveat  on Feb. 18th at 7PM ET (so, hopefully that’s far enough from the reaches of this recent COVID-19 surge) and tickets are only $15.

Go get them right here right now and enjoy looking forward to something in mid February rather than worry about Valentine’s Day.

comedy tour nyc

Pick of the Day: One Star New York (in NYC) 1/3

Welp, left, right, and center, comedy shows right now in NYC are getting postponed and cancelled because of the Omicron surge of COVID-19. So, we’ll just have to look past the holidays for something that is, as of this moment, still on the books and will still be a damn good time.

With that in mind, we’d like to highlight Back Fat Variety’s One Star New York , a show that celebrates the worst of NYC as told by some of its best funny people. We’ve always thought of NYC as a place that requires Stockholm Syndrome to live there and it looks like this show revels in that notion.

Expressing their love for the Big Apple through their worst recollections of it will be the lovely collection of Ophira Eisenberg, Martin Urbano, Linsday Boling , and host Emily Winter . One Star New York will be taking place at Caveat where vaccination and masks are thankfully required on Mon Jan. 3rd at 7PM ET . Tickets are $15 right now and you ought to get them here .

Pick of the Day: Hannah Einbinder (in NYC) 11/5

In LA, pretty much all of Hannah Einbinder ‘s headlining dates have sold out. You might get a chance to see her here and there on a plethora of shows here and there, but you won’t get to bare witness to the full breadth of full length set, unless you snagged a ticket for one of her Dynasty Typewriter dates, for awhile (probably in October).

That said, if you’re in NYC, you still have a shot at catching the late show of Hannah Einbinder’s evening at The Bell House on Fri. Nov. 5th. Already, the 7:30PM ET show has sold out, but you can still get tickets for the 10PM ET show at $20 a pop . Please don’t miss your chance to see Hannah live, who will be such a delightful conceptual, yet still very personal comedy surprise for all of you whether you’ve seen her on Hacks  or not.

So, go get your tickets already .

Pick of the Day: The Byron Bowers Experience (in NYC) 7/20

Often in LA, we’re lucky to get treated to the wild, dark, and hysterical comedy musings and stories of Byron Bowers . He has been a beloved fixture in the scene for as long as we have seen him in and throughout LA.

Bowers often has a knack for lulling people into his sharp comedic turns and really diving deep into his material and expanding his bits to their fullest potential. We got to see Byron run this particular hour and we didn’t even realize that he had actually gone well over an hour by the end of it (as a testament to how captivating his presence and command of the stage really is).

So, Byron is bringing his Byron Bowers Experience to The Stand in NYC on July 20th at 9:30PM ET with Josh Adam Meyers opening. Tickets are going for $20 (plus $5 service fee). Go get them here right now.

The PIT’s 10th Annual Indie-Pendence Day Improv Fest Is Another Festival Going Virtual and Is Taking Submissions

For much of the world, festivals are still far off from happening and, as such, many of them are opting to go virtual instead of just postponing until next year. NYC’s The PIT ‘s is opting for the virtual option with their annual 10th Annual Indie-Pendence Day Improv Fest , which will be streaming on July 4th (which will be nice especially if you’re worried about folks overdoing their 4th of July gathering).

They’ve partnered with @sociallydistantimprov , &  @studentdriverimprov to put the entire online version of this Indie-Pendence Day Improv Fest and, yes, they’re taking submissions and, yes, they’re open to teams from anywhere and everywhere!

The deadline to submit your team will be Sun. Jun. 14th 9AM PT/12PM PT.

Pick of the Day: You Had Me at New York 5/31

It’s more than obvious right now that we need a big change in many of our leaders, especially elected officials. The NYC chapter of the DSA is working hard to make that happen. They’re aiming to have four specific candidates to fill state level offices namely, Jabari Brisport, Phara Forrest, Marcela Mitayanes, and Zohran Mamdani.

To accomplish this, there will be a big telethon-ish variety benefit show called You Had Me at New York featuring a line-up that’s stacked on top of being stacked. Slated for this extravaganza are:

Jaboukie Young-White, Bowen Yang, Sarah Silverman, Julio Torres, Cynthia Nixon, Nina Turner, Philip Agnew, Patti Harrison, Jerry Paper, Larry Owens, Kate Berlant, John Early, Madison McFerrin, Aparna Nancherla, Nina Turner, Balún, Dynasty Handbag, Ruby McCollister, Cole Escola, Micheal Cavadias, Sarah Sherman, Chani Nicholas, Una Osato aka ExHOTic, Other, Jennifer Vanilla, Jeremy & Rajat, Tommy Pico, Joey De Jesus, Kiko Soiree, Simone Norman.

Subversive delights Lorelei Ramirez and Morgan Bassichis are presiding as hosts for the whole event and we can’t imagine that this night will be anything but unforgettable, mesmerizing, and, dare we say, transformative.

You Had Me at New York  is set for Sun. May 31st at 3PM PT/6PM ET . Tickets start at $15 and you absolutely should go get tickets right here right now.

Baron Vaughn, Open Mike Eagle, and The New Negroes Are Going on Tour

image

The New Negroes has grown from a show that would happen every once in awhile in LA, celebrating a new wave of black comedians to an entire Comedy Central series to something that’s going on a nationwide tour.

Baron Vaughn and Open Mike Eagle have created something really special in this marvelous blend of comedy, music, and bits and you shouldn’t really miss out if The New Negroes are coming to your town.

Gastor Almonte’s New Album/Special “Immigrant Made” Is a Beautiful Collection of Stories That Highlight the Importance of Immigrants in America

image

A lot of people have a lot of very different, very hardline opinions about immigration these days. We hope that they do remember that the majority of the country are immigrants and that the immigrant experience is integral to the fabric of the mighty U.S. of A.

East Brooklyn’s Gastor Almonte takes pride in his parents emigrating to this country and relishes that he is the fruit of the seeds that his mother and father planted. Of course, that fruit is the freedom to make an entire comedy special about that very notion and Almonte does it with wonderful poise throughout a collection of carefully constructed long form stories on Immigrant Made . Though straight forward and subtle in his delivery, Almonte observations about his world and his place in it are simultaneously funny and full of genuine heart.

Get a taste of all of that here in the trailer .

You can get in on Immigrant Made now where you listen to comedy albums and stream it on Amazon. Do so here .

Comedy Cellar to Open a Location in Las Vegas

The venerable NYC comedy club known as The Comedy Cellar is opening up a location out West, specifically at The Rio in Las Vegas at the beginning of April .

“.@NYCComedyCellar will open its first West Coast location at @RioVegas April 5. The intimate 300-seat club “will be just like coming to the New York Comedy Cellar,” said club owner Noam Dworman.”

– @7starsinsider

We’ll be curious to see how this plays out, specifically with where they’ll draw the majority of the comics from, how Vegas comics will factor in, and how close they get to being like original Comedy Cellar .

Abbi Jacobson To Host a New Podcast, “A Piece of Work”, That Has Jacobson Break Down Art with Guests

In addition to being the Abbi from Broad City that you know and love,  Abbi Jacobson  has made plenty of her own milestones in the art world with a degree in art school and getting her own illustrated books published.

Now, Abbi will act as a bridge from the art world to the general public with a new podcast series in collaboration from WNYC and MoMA. Called A Piece of Work, Abbi will focus on specific art movements and have on big time guests that come from both the art world and Tinseltown.

It’s only going for 10 episodes, but we would imagine it could much longer if Abbi’s up for it. Look for the episodes to start dropping on Monday, July 10th .

The UCB 4 to Reunite for Performance at Carnegie Hall, Becoming One of the Few Improv Teams/Troupes to Ever Play The World Renowned Venue

For a very long time, playing NYC’s Carnegie Hall as a comedian was an unquestioned achievement in comedy of the highest order. As is, playing Carnegie Hall is an incredibly rare feat no matter what your artistic discipline might be.

Still, mostly comedians that play Carnegie Hall are stand-up comedians. We looked through the list of past performers, we found that the only other instance of improv was Drew Carey doing night with some Whose Line Is It Anyway? folks like Jeff B. Davis and Greg Proops for the New York Comedy Festival . The Firesign Theatre , which only had an improvised feel, also performed there several decades ago.

So, Amy Poehler, Matt Walsh, Ian Roberts, and Matt Besser , often referred to as  The UCB 4 , will be kicking off 2018′s Del Close Marathon performing together once again and simultaneously being one of the only groups to do their version of long form improv on such a hallowed stage.

With that in mind, you better keep a close eye on tickets going on sale if you want to go.

Dave Chappelle Will Be Doing Another Residency at Radio City Music Hall Featuring The Roots, Chris Rock, Trevor Noah, Ali Wong, Erykah Badu, and Childish Gambino

In 2014, Dave Chappelle did a whole run of shows at the legendary Radio City Music Hall featuring guests like The Roots .

That seemed to go pretty well.

So, Dave is doing it again this August with plenty of the aforementioned big name guests. Tickets for this residency will go on sale this Friday .

Please support us on Patreon. You just might get a Comedy Bureau app or NYC branch of the Bureau out of it.

'Two Idiot Girls' Host Drew Afualo Launches 21-Date Summer Comedy Tour for 'Loud' Book Release | Exclusive

Drew Afualo is coming back to the people. The TikTok sensation, hit podcast host, women's rights advocate and freshly minted author ("Loud: Accept Nothing Less Than the Life You Deserve" hits bookshelves July 30) set her new comedy tour Monday with 21 dates across the U.S., TheWrap has exclusively learned.

Kicking off in New York City at Gramercy Theatre the day of the book's release, Afualo described the engagement as a fusion of book tour-meets-comedy tour-meets-live podcast taping for her "Two Idiot Girls" comedy project with sister Deison.

"The things you can always count on for any live show I do are a silly goose time and laughter," Afualo, who boasts 7.9 million followers on TikTok and 1 million on Instagram , told TheWrap. "My favorite aspect of my content that this show encompasses, besides empowering people, is getting a chance to make them laugh. Both aspects will be prioritized in every show!"

Patreon subscribers to "Two Idiot Girls" get exclusive presale access for the tour beginning Monday, while VIP tickets become available Tuesday and general sale tickets open Friday at 10 a.m. local time.

Known for hilariously taking down misogynistic men and empowering women everywhere with heart-strong self-love, Afualo has been dubbed "The Internet's Crusader for Women" — and "Loud" follows in-step with that mission. A "manual for fearlessly confident living," the summer release is part memoir, part life roadmap and part laugh-out-loud manifesto. It helps, too, that "Loud" comes with an endorsement from Questlove, the Grammy-winning musician, Oscar-winning documentarian and New York Times bestselling author of "Creative Quest" and the upcoming "Hip-Hop Is History."

Afualo told TheWrap that the "most gratifying" part of writing "Loud" was "getting to immortalize my words in print forever, something I never thought I would get to do."

"What I hope resonates with my fans the most is all the ideology behind loving yourself unconditionally and unabashedly," she said. "I hope they hold onto that so they can give themselves all the love and respect they deserve in this life!"

As far as having Questlove in her corner, the multi-hyphenate comedian added that his involvement "has been such an amazing and surreal experience."

After wrapping her "Loud"/"Two Idiot Girls" summer tour on Aug. 25 in Phoenix, Afualo will then hit the road in November to open for another comedy heavyweight: Whitney Cummings. But first, it's her name on the marquee.
