Auto Reload is a Safari extension for automatically refreshing windows with recurring timers.

The main focus is providing said functionality with as few "add-on" side effects as possible. There is no javascript, the interface is all native controls, and no additional permissions are required. The extension ships in a basic Mac app with setup instructions. The app is purely a wrapper and does not communicate with the extension.

Download the latest release from GitHub or purchase Auto Reload on the Mac App Store to support development and receive automatic updates
Open the Auto Reload application
Open Safari then go to Settings > Extensions
Enable Auto Reload
Use the toolbar item to start/stop reloading windows

How can I force Safari to perform a full page reload, without using the mouse?

I'm using Safari to preview web pages as I develop them on my local server. I've got 'Disable Caches' checked in the Develop menu. And yet Safari is still working from a cached version of a stylesheet that's linked from the HTML file being displayed.

I can sometimes override this by Option-clicking the reload button in the location bar, but I want to refresh the page automatically when I save the CSS file. At the moment I'm doing it using an AppleScript that's bound to the Save action in my text editor. I could see using Keyboard Maestro instead. But I need some consistent way to force Safari to do a full reload from the keyboard.

Enable the Develop menu from Safari menu - Preferences - Advanced .

On Safari version 11.1 and above :

CMD + OPTION + R reloads the page ignoring cache.

On Safari version 9 and above :

CMD + SHIFT + R reloads the page ignoring cache.

Emptying caches seems not to reload the stylesheets everytimes…

On Safari below version 9 :

Empty cache and then reload so full "hot key" would be :

CMD + OPTION + E

CMD + R to refresh the page

Of course probably turning opening and closing a New Private Window from the File would also work but…

There is an option in the menubar Develop->Disable Caches. This is true for Safari 5.1. I'm not sure for the rest.

Turn on Private mode and refresh the page. It won't get it from the cache in private mode.

Hard refresh was removed as a keyboard shortcut in Safari 5. The old command for that was ⌘ + SHIFT + R

CTRL + F5 May work but I can't test here.

Workaround: in the develop menu, select "start debugging javascript" and it must reload the code properly. You can then stop debugging... I know it's not a clean solution and I'm not sure if it works always or in all versions, but it's working for me now.

I stumble upon this question and apparently the current answers do not work.

Issue is currently CMD + ALT + R opens the Responsive design.

However if the inspector is open via CMD + ALT + I , then the same shortcut does a clean refresh.

Current Safari Version: 12.1.2

CMD + L focus on the address bar SHIFT + ALT + ENTER full reload for the current address

It seems to work on Safari 9

Go to Safari's preferences and tick "Show develop menu". In the develop menu, click disable Caches.

4 Ways to Refresh Webpages in Safari on iPhone, iPad, and Mac

Whenever you open a webpage on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, it loads the latest information. But once the page finishes loading, all the information displayed usually remains static, even if it has changed or refreshed in the backend. To access the latest information, you can refresh all those web pages in Safari.

Refreshing webpages help update the current information on your screen. And while you can use the Cmd + Option + R shortcut to hard refresh (force reload) or clear all the cache in Safari separately, what if you want to reload the page? Is there an option or shortcut? Let’s find out.

How to Refresh Webpages in Safari on iPhone and iPad

When using Safari on your iPhone or iPad, use the Reload icon to reload a page. Or, if your device is updated, use the pull-to-refresh option. You can also use keyboard shortcuts, if available. Or, force the browser to close and restart. Thus, reloading the page in the process. Here’s a step-by-step look for clarity.

1. Using the Address Bar

Step 1: Depending on your device’s settings, go to the address bar at the top or bottom of the page in Safari.

Step 2: Here, tap on the Reload icon.

Wait for the page to finish reloading. If the address bar is not visible, use your finger to move the page up or down. Once you see it, tap on the Reload icon accordingly. This will reload the page in Safari.

2. Through the Pull-to-Refresh Feature

If your iPhone runs iOS 15 or higher, you can use the pull-to-refresh option. Using this, you can pull the webpage down and wait for it to refresh and reload.

Step 1: Go to the relevant tab in Safari.

Step 2: Now, hold and pull down from the top half of the page. Release the page once you see the reload icon appear.

Once you release the page, it should automatically refresh all the information. If this doesn’t work, check your device’s software version and try again.

3. Using a Keyboard Shortcut

As long as you have a compatible wireless keyboard , you can connect it to your iPhone or iPad via Bluetooth . This can not only aid in typing but also allow you to use keyboard shortcuts on your Apple device. Then, use the Cmd + R shortcut on the wireless keyboard and reload the page without touching the screen.

4. Force Close and Restart Safari

If you can’t use the abovementioned methods, force Safari to close altogether on your iPhone or iPad. This can help solve any glitches with the browser as well. Once the browser reopens, it should refresh the page as well. Here’s how.

Step 1: Swipe up from the bottom of the page to open background apps. Or, if your device has a Home button, double-press it.

Step 2: Once the background apps are visible, hold and swipe up on Safari.

Step 3: Now, tap on the Safari app icon to reopen the browser.

Once Safari opens, the page should also reopen in the designated tab. If that doesn’t happen, use the address bar or search history to reopen the page in Safari.

How to Refresh Safari Webpages on Your Mac

Like refreshing Safari webpages on your iPhone or iPad, you can also reload a page on your Mac. To do this, use the refresh button in Safari, menu options, or the keyboard shortcut. Or, if this doesn’t work, force Safari to close and reload. This will not only restart all browser functions but also reload the page. Here’s how to do it.

1. Through the Reload Icon

Step 1: Go to the Safari address bar and click on the Reload icon.

Once the page reloads, any related issue should be resolved as your browser fetches a fresh copy of the page.

2. Using Menu Options

Step 1: Once Safari is open, go to the menu bar and click on View.

Step 2: Here, click on Reload Page. Wait for the page to refresh.

3. Using Keyboard Shortcut

Auto Reload is Now Free and Open Source

Auto Reload, a Safari extension for automatically refreshing web pages, is now free and open source under MIT license. Downloading via the Mac app store for $.99 will continue to be the recommended option for people who prefer the convenience of automatic updates and would like to support the project. Downloads for installing without the app store are available from the Auto Reload GitHub project .

My Mac app development journey has been a great experience and if open sourcing this trivial bit of code inspires just one other dev to give it a go, or helps someone find success then I’ll call it “mission accomplished” with this project.

The funny thing is, I hate browser extensions. I usually avoid them but there’s just some functionality I can’t do without, like auto refresh and a password manager. When Apple radically overhauled Safari extensions, the old extension I came to depend on no longer worked. At the time I was setting up mission control style monitor wall and was proper mad when suddenly my only option was to install a different web browser. If there’s one thing I dislike more than browser plugins, it’s replacing the default browser with something different and having yet another maintenance concern. The effort required to turn a fresh MacOS install into a digital sign server should be near zero in my opinion.

I’m not one to let a good nerd rage go to waste, so I dove into Xcode and Swift to code up a quick app. I originally was going to make it free for everyone, but then I thought, “Hey, I’m not paying Apple developer fees for the privilege of distributing a feature that they messed up.” and Auto Reload got a $.99 price tag.

The changes to Safari were fantastic in my opinion. Browser add-ons are one of the last scourges of personal computing. Heck yes I want the code scanned and signed and everything to be sandboxed with clear permissions. Thank god, put as many warnings as possible between my dad and malware. Working with Xcode and the Mac App store is also a lesson in class act management of software distribution. While others (Chrome Web Store, Mozilla Add-ons) may be free, the Mac App Store is the reference implementation others should follow.

With that in mind, there are some limitations to distribution exclusively through the app store. Most prominent is that users cannot choose which version they’d like installed. It’s a feature, most people just want the latest version I think and prefer auto updates that keep their computer running smoothly. After shipping a major update though I got more than a few emails and reviews from users asking if they could revert to the older version.

That got me thinking. These users are my customers. I believe they have should have the ability to run any version they like. It’s what I would want. I don’t recommend running software that’s unstable, but they’re adults and should be able to do what they like with what they paid for. It’s not worth the effort creating a paywall website for such a small app, so really the only sane option was public binaries. If I’m releasing the binaries, then I thought, “Why not go all in and release the code?” Again, it’s what I would want.

So in summary, my first year as a Mac app developer with a simple store offering has taught me a lot. It has corrected and enhanced much of my understanding of what it means to ship software that makes money. While I’ll continue to maintain Auto Reload with a narrow scope focused on stability, I now look forward most to it helping other developers on journeys of their own.

In a perfect world, web pages would refresh regularly with setting controls to change the frequency. Unfortunately, internet browsers don’t quite work that way. But there is something you can do about it.

Apps and extensions make the dream of automatically refreshing a web page a reality. And they’re easy to install, too!

You’d just go to your browser’s web store or search the available extensions for “auto-refresh.” Odds are that you’ll have a multitude of options to choose from with varying levels of control.

How to Automatically Refresh a Web Page in Chrome

Google Chrome may not come with the tools to enable auto-refresh for a web page, but they make it easy to add one.

If you go to the Chrome Web Store and search for “auto-refresh,” you’ll see a handful of options available. For this example, let’s use Super Simple Auto Refresh . This extension has features like being able to set custom intervals, multiple device sync, and local storage bypass. To install it, follow the steps below:

Enable the Extension by clicking on its icon in your browser toolbar (if you don’t see it, click on the jigsaw puzzle icon to see your extensions and pin it)

Step 3 – Change Extension Settings

Select the new extension icon to set refresh intervals or to stop automatic web page refresh

Just remember that you do need to be signed in to your Google account to download the extension. You can’t use incognito mode or a guest window to install it.

How to Automatically Refresh a Web Page in Internet Explorer

Newer versions of Internet Explorer have an option that allows you to refresh web pages automatically. It’s buried deep in the Settings menu and you can’t specify the intervals but, some users may find enabling this setting is more convenient than using a third-party app.

By default, Internet Explorer does not enable this option. So, if you’d like web pages to automatically refresh at regular intervals, you need to enable this function.

How to Automatically Refresh a Web Page in Microsoft Edge

The bad news is that Microsoft Edge users don’t have the option to automatically refresh a web page in their browsers, at least natively. They do have the option of using an add-on, though.

Much like the other browsers on this list, Firefox doesn’t have a native function to auto-refresh web pages. But they make it simple to download an extension for this function. Here’s how to get started:

How to Automatically Refresh a Web Page Every Minute

There are a couple of options if you want your webpage to automatically refresh at set intervals. The first one involves downloading an extension for your web browser. If that’s the way you want to go, head over to your browser’s extension store and search for “auto-refresh.” There are a variety of options for each browser.

There are a few online tools available that claim they automatically refresh web pages for you. Take these websites with a grain of salt if you decide to use them and keep your anti-virus on. Many of them are phishing sites that look for ways to reel you in for information.

How to Refresh a Web Page Automatically in JavaScript

The refresh page code for JavaScript is:

document.location.reload()

If you want to force reload a page from a server instead of a cache, use the word true in the parenthesis:

document.location.reload(true)

On the other hand, using the word false in the parenthesis automatically reloads a page using the cache.

Reloading a web page window using JavaScript uses:

window.location.reload()

If you’d like to reload a page at set intervals, you’d use a setTimeout function in the script:

setTimeout(() => {

window.location.reload (true);

Embedded in a page code, this automatically refreshes a web page every five seconds. Every time the page is reloaded, the set timer gets reset for another five seconds.

If you just want the JavaScript function to refresh a page, it’s location.reload() .

How to Automatically Reload a Web Page at a Certain Time

Auto-refreshing is one of those functions that everybody takes for granted until it’s not available anymore. And unfortunately, many of today’s favorite browsers don’t reload pages automatically, let alone specify refresh times.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t set this up!

You just need to go to an outside source to get your web page to automatically reload. It’s as simple as going to your browser’s app/extension store and finding one you like:

Launch your browser.
Go to app/extension store (Chrome Web Store, Firefox Add-Ons, Microsoft Edge Add-ons Store, etc.).
Enter “auto-refresh” in the search bar.
Choose an extension.
Follow the prompts to download and install the extension onto your browser toolbar.

Read the descriptions carefully when choosing an extension. You may see a handful of results, but only some, like Super Simple Auto Refresh, give you the option to set custom intervals for refreshing pages.

You have a couple of options if you want to refresh a webpage after a few seconds. Going manual is the first option and that simply involves pressing the refresh icon next to the address bar. But if you’re trying to get tickets to a hot event or in an intense auction, that may get tedious.

iOS 15: How to Quickly Refresh a Webpage in Safari

In iOS 15, Apple has completely redesigned Safari with easier-to-reach controls in mind when you're browsing the internet. For example, the URL address bar can optionally sit at the bottom of the screen instead of up top, which makes it easier to access when you're using your iPhone with one hand.

A downward swipe on any webpage‌ is all it takes to refresh a webpage in Safari. This alternative to having to tap on the reload icon is especially useful if you like to keep the address bar at the top of the screen, where tapping the reload icon can be less convenient.

Is there a way to have a Safari webpage refresh automatically every minute to every couple minutes? I have a page that updates very frequently that I need info from. Im not really familiar with RSS but does it do something like that? I seriously doubt this site does not have a feed (if thats what it needs). teaneck taxi and limo Thanks

Slight tweak to this... Is there any extension similar to this that allows me to watch for specific text and alert me when it does? i.e. watch a news site, every few seconds to hours, for the word "Boston" and when it appears alert me with a buzz or something.

That doesn't quite look like what I'm looking for. What I'm trying to monitor is: http://gunbot.net/reloading/Powder/ Once say: "Vihtavuori N330" shows up, I would like to either get an alert via a sound on the system I'm watching it on or even a txt to my phone. Chrome had an extension called auto refresh plus. Version 1.0 did what I'm asking but it appears they've removed that functionality in the later/current versions. Anyone have any ideas?

Does what is claimed, but not a good solution.

Doe this auto-refresh web pages? Yes. Yes it does. The problem is, if you want to auto-refresh a web page, this extension auto-refreshed every open tab. so, if you need to use this as a keep-alive on a web page, all your tabs are refreshed. And these refreshes mean that whatever page you are currently viewing will refresh, and return you back to the top of the viewable page making it impossible to read large documents in a browser, and refresh a specific tab. This, to me, is a major lmitation that impoacts the usablity of Safari, which means this is not the right solution for me.

I first downloaded and usded it without a problem. 1 week later, once i click start, it refreshes once and doesnt work again. i have to uninstall it and reinstall it few times a day.

How to make your iPhone go faster

I t’s hard to be patient with a slow iPhone , especially when using it for everything, from the calculator to getting directions on Maps. No one likes dealing with lag, buffering, or app freezing. Fortunately, there are a few ways you could speed up your iPhone.

Restart your iPhone

Let’s start with the classic “Did you try turning it off and on again?” It’s a classic for a reason, not just another tech myth. On a technical level, it helps refresh your iPhone’s RAM or working memory, which optimizes its overall performance. Since it’s probably the most straightforward hack, I’d recommend starting with this one.

There are slightly different ways to restart an iPhone based on its model. If you can’t get yours to restart, you might want to do a quick “how to restart [your iPhone model]” search. In case you’re unsure about your iPhone’s model, we have a guide for that , too.

Clear Safari Data

I’m sure we have encountered an ‘Accept Cookies’ popup. Even if you have no idea what that does, you’ve probably accepted tons of cookies by now. Refer to this helpful guide for a detailed and easy lesson on internet cookies. For the scope of this piece, all you need to know is that every time you click on ‘Accept Cookies’ on your browser, you’re putting a bunch of files on your device. These files pile up over time and end up slowing your phone.

If you frequently use Safari on your iPhone, you probably have a lot of passwords, cookies, tabs, and other login info in your Safari cache. It’s a good habit to clear that from time to time. Note that this will require re-entering login credentials or other personal info on some sites since clearing your cache will make your Safari brand new again.

To clear all Safari data, go to Settings on your iPhone and look up ‘Safari.’ Once in the Safari menu, scroll down until you see ‘Clear History and Website Data.’ It will ask you to pick a timeframe. Select ‘All history’ and then hit the red button at the bottom that says ‘Clear History.’

Free Up Space

Full storage is one of the leading causes of a sluggish iPhone. Go to Settings , scroll to General , and click on iPhone Storage from the menu. Doing so will present you with a stacked bar chart and an ordered list of your iPhone’s storage situation, clearly labeling how much space is occupied by which app.

It will also provide you with recommendations on how to free up space. Under Recommendations , click on Review Large Attachments to see the photos, videos, and attachments that are taking up the most space. When you see something you want to delete, swipe left and hit Delete .

There are other ways to free up space on your iPhone, but it ultimately depends on your priorities and your phone use. If you don’t always need all your photos and videos on your phone, you can back them up on iCloud and delete them from your iPhone. However, this would mean you would no longer be able to access them without the internet.

Similarly, if you don’t need all your iMessages, you can mass-delete them. I’ll review all the ways to clear storage on your iPhone in a separate, dedicated guide.

iOS updates often bring bug fixes that help improve your iPhone’s efficiency, so it’s a good idea to always be on the latest software update. You can do that by turning automatic updates on. Go to Settings > General > Software Update > Automatic Updates and turn on the toggle switch for all three options on the page. This will automatically download and install iOS software updates when your phone is connected to Wi-Fi, charging, and locked.

You can also manually update your iOS. A ‘Software Update Available’ notice on your Settings app under your Apple ID will tell you there’s a newer version you haven’t yet updated to. If you see that, scroll down to General > Software Update and click Download and Install to begin the update. If you don’t see that notice, you’re on the latest version.

Replace Battery

Another possible reason for a slow phone is a battery overused to the point of dysfunction. If your iPhone is old, its battery’s health may not be ideal. To see if that’s the case, go to Settings, look up Battery Health, and click on Battery Health & Charging from the open menu. Anything 80% and above is good, but Apple recommends replacing your battery when its health falls below that mark.

Turn Off Automatic Downloads and Background App Refresh

Apps on your iPhone tend to auto-update. While this is helpful, it could become overwhelming for your phone, especially if you have many apps on it. Multiple background app refreshes also take place without you knowing. Again, this is a helpful feature, but it could lead to a considerable drop in your phone’s efficiency if you have many apps that constantly refresh and update.

Go to Settings > App Store and turn off all three toggle switches under ‘Automatic Downloads.’ These are App Downloads, App Updates, and In-App Content. Then, go to General > Background App Refresh > Background App Refresh (again) and choose Off . Doing both will ensure no power-hungry apps are running in the background. If you’d like an app updated, you can constantly manually update it in the App Store.

No, closing your background apps won’t help.

I know; I felt as deceived as you did when Gizmodo Maxwell Zeff told us that closing background apps doesn’t do anything and that I have been making my poor little thumb do all that labor for years for nothing. It’s just a tech myth that originated years ago on Apple’s community forum and Stack Overflow and has been perpetuated ever since (because it sounds like it should work!). But yeah, doing that won’t affect either performance or battery.

Are some of your apps still running slow?

Are you sure it’s your phone and not your network? People often mistake a slow connection for a slow phone. Especially if you’re experiencing lag on apps that require an internet connection, it might just be your internet that needs fixing.

To quickly check this, look up ‘speed test’ on your browser. You’ll see an ‘Internet speed test’ pop-up. Hit the blue button that says ‘run speed test.’ In around 30 seconds, you’ll get precise stats on your download and upload speeds and a comment on your internet performance.

I just ran mine, and it said, “Your Internet connection is very fast. It should be able to handle multiple devices streaming HD videos, video conferencing, and gaming at the same time.” So, if my iPhone starts acting up, I’d know it’s not my internet.

A 3.5-hour car/bus tour of Moscow.

This is the best tour of Moscow city as all the important sights are visited. I am your Moscow city guide who will walk you through the city explaining the charming history of the city. This tour begins with picking you up from the hotel. 3 breaks are offered for photographing.

First, we will visit the most famous riverside streets and bridges in the center of the city with the most beautiful views of the Kremlin and the Moskva River (e.g. the Kremlin embankment and the Great Stone Bridge).

1.5-hour boat trip on the Moskva River.

Taking a boat tour in Moscow on the Moskva River is a very pleasant experience. It allows you to know the city from a totally different perspective and admire the beautiful bridges. In this 1.5-hour river trip, you will sail past many beautiful sites in Moscow, so you can take the best photos to commemorate this day. The ship makes several stops on the way. The trip starts from the Ustinskiy Bridge near Sarjadje Park and ends at the Kiev train station.

A military tour – riding on tanks in Stupino (Moscow region)

Russian Military is one of the largest military forces in the world formed in 1992. With my Military Tour experience what it likes to be in the Russian military, shooting guns, ride the Tank T-34 and various models of German tanks from the Second World War, as well as armored personnel carriers and vehicles. You will also shoot from the AK-47 and another combat weapon.

The tour will begin with your private tour guide Moscow in a Soviet army van accompanied with some tasty snacks and tea for a tasty start. Upon arriving, you will have to put on the army safety clothing and climb the Russian armored vehicles. The tour will take you on the noisy, smoky tank, driving through mud roads. A Moscow Free Walking Tour of the Iconic Red Square

No visit to Moscow, Russia is complete unless you take a walk around the famous Red Square and see the iconic sights of the city. One of the best ways to see all the famous landmarks in Moscow and learn a little something about them too is on a free Moscow walking tour through the Red Square.

Continue reading for a sneak peek at what you will see on your free tour in Moscow and for tips on both the tour and visiting the sights. Make sure to save some time during your trip to go inside of the magnificent buildings because you will not be going in the buildings during the tour.

The State Historical Museum

The Moscow free walking tour begins at the Marshal Zhukov monument in front of the State Historical Museum . You can’t miss this massive red building. The museum’s interior is almost as spectacular as the artifacts you can see within. Read my post dedicated to the museum here to find out more on what you can see and tips for visiting. Admission is free with the Moscow City Pass .

The Kremlin

Behind the walls of the Kremlin lie the working offices of Russian’s government and president. When visiting the Kremlin you can see the Armory Chamber, Cathedral Square, the Patriach’s Palace and many more cathedrals. You definitely want to buy tickets ahead of time so you avoid the long-lines. You can get free admission with the Moscow City Pass . It’s also worth it to take a guided tour if you don’t speak Russian so you have more of an understanding of what you are seeing.

St. Basil’s Cathedral

If asked to conquer up an image of Moscow, St. Basil’s Cathedral might just be the most likely image you picture. The cathedral has a museum that you can visit at a later time. You can buy tickets at the ticket kiosk outside the cathedral or receive free admission with the Moscow City Pass .

Moskva River

Next up on the tour is the Moskva River which runs through the center of Moscow. A cruise on the Moskva River is a great way to see the city from a different perspective.

GUM Shopping Mall

Who would think a mall would be one of Moscow’s most well-known attractions? GUM shopping mall across from the Kremlin makes up one of the four sides of the Red Square. The stores might be a bit too pricey for shopping, but the gorgeous interior is worth a visit. If that doesn’t convince you, the mall has some of the best ice cream! GUM is the only building you go inside during the free walking tour. There are pay bathrooms you can use while you have a few minutes of free time.

Kazan Cathedral

Located on the northeast corner of the Red Square, the Kazan Cathedral is another impressive dome-shaped building in Moscow that is also an active place of worship. Entering the cathedral is allowed, but remember to be respectful if people are worshipping.

Bolshoi Theater

Contrary to the previous buildings, the Bolshoi Theater isn’t along one of the four sides of the Red Square. Located a few minutes away, the theater is one of the best theaters in the world. Make sure to come back for a guided tour of the inside or make reservations far ahead of time to attend a ballet or opera.

Alexander Gardens

The tour ends near the Alexander Gardens , a free public park located along the western Kremlin walls. The garden’s green lawns, sculptures and water fountains offer a nice place to take a stroll or relax a bit after some busy sightseeing.

You can visit all these sites on your own, but the best part of doing the Moscow free tour is that you learn more information and have the potential to meet new people!

During my tour I started to talk to a woman from Malaysia and she invited me to join her and her friends for a Russian meal afterwards. It’s these little impromptu meetings and opportunities that I love most about traveling and add more to the sightseeing experience. While I was a little hesitant about going to the tour myself I told myself it would be a great opportunity to possibly meet new people. I love when things work out like that!

How to Get There

The Moscow Free Walking Tour begins at the Marshal Zhukov monument in front of the State Historical Museum (a large red building). The website shows a map with the exact meeting point.

To get to the red square area you can take the blue 3 metro line to the Ploshchad Revolyutsii stop, or the green 2 line to the Teatralnaya station or the red 1 line to the Okhotny Ryad station. For more on how to use the metro read my Moscow Metro Guide .

Tours every day at 10:30am – 1pm in English

If you need a toilet before the start of the tour the Okhotny Ryad and GUM shopping malls are both close to the start of the tour. You will need to pay to use the toilets. There is a quick break mid-way through the tour at the GUM shopping mall where you can use the toilet if needed.

During the mid-way break in the tour you can buy some ice cream at the GUM shopping mall. There aren’t many other options or time for anything else. After the tour there are a lot of restaurants in the area. There are a couple of Varenichnaya №1 locations nearby if you would like some authentic Russian food. Their speciality is Russian dumplings. Another classic choice nearby is Grand Cafe Dr. Jhivago. While you can try traditional Russian foods like borscht and Olivier Salad, you may need a reservation. GUM has several restaurants, including a couple of buffets upstairs.

Recommendations

While I would start off your visit to Moscow with a tour of the Red Square, make sure to come back to each place to tour the inside. If you are visiting several sights consider buying the Moscow City Pass to save money on admissions.

If you prefer a private paid tour with a hotel pick-up and a visit to St. Basil’s Cathedral included check out this tour . For a private paid tour with a hotel pick-up and a visit to the Kremlin included you may want to take this tour or this one . Even if you don’t typically take tours, I would recommend taking tours as much as possible in Moscow. Many people do not speak English and most information is not in English either.

I visited Moscow in June this year for the World Cup and I loved it. St. Basil’s Cathedral was the highlight for me, it’s such an impressive piece of architecture. I would’ve liked to visit more of Russia but maybe next time!

I have been to St. Petersburg but never to Moscow. I think that these kind of tours are very useful to gather many information but I second your suggestion to visit the palaces inside as they have stunning interior decor and art treasures.

St. Basil’s cathedral is definitely a beautiful place to visit. I would also love to stroll by the Alexander gardens and maybe spend some time in the shopping mall call mom maybe visit the theater, also I would love to visit Kremlin and the State Historical Museum.
