Godsmack Vibez Tour: A Night of Intimacy and Reflection at YouTube Theater

On April 10, 2024, the YouTube Theater witnessed a captivating departure from Godsmack 's usual high-octane shows. This concert, part of their Vibez Tour, traded the mosh pits for a more intimate and introspective atmosphere, offering a unique experience for their fans. No one really knew what to expect from a show billed as an intimate night with the band. The "Vibez Tour" featured lead singer Sully Erna and his bandmates playing a series of intimate evenings featuring acoustic and electric performances and storytelling in venues across North America. The tour's second leg kicked off April 9 in Valley Center, California, before making its way to Los Angeles.

Opening the night was Bastian da Cruz , a singer-songwriter hailing from Denmark. Despite the miles separating him from home, Bastian was excited to be on tour with Godsmack . While not the conventional choice to kick off a hard rock show, Bastian could hold his own, garnering polite applause from an otherwise heavy metal fanbase.

His songwriting was marked by its simplicity yet carried a profound personal depth that resonates powerfully. He matched his writing prowess with a strong voice. Bastian's vocals occasionally soared above the sound system, showcasing his versatility across genres. With a seasoned tenor that prioritized the weight of his lyrics over sheer volume, Bastian effortlessly navigated through his setlist, infusing each song with unwavering intensity.

After a short break, the Bastian da Cruz backdrop fell away, revealing an eerie stage set for Godsmack. It was apparent from the multiple instruments onstage that this would be more than an acoustic concert and feature additional musicians joining the core band. The set was dimly lit with electric candles, and two large Gargoyles flanked the corners of the stage. The devilish statues would later light up in different configurations, and their eyes would glow an eerie red. Before the Godsmack set began, there was a video trailer for the new documentary “I Stand Alone: The Sully Erna Story.”

Then Godmsack exploded onstage with a cover of Pink Floyd's "Time," setting the tone for a thoughtful and musically explorative night. A giant multimedia screen played carefully synched visuals throughout the evening. Sully devilishly quipped at one point midway through the show, “I bet you fuckers wish you were doing mushrooms about now," as the psychedelic images continued on the screens behind the band. By the show's third song, the band set the mood with their signature song, “Voodoo.” The moody song came across as a take on the New Orleans legendary singer Dr John with his breakthrough “Walk On Guilded Splinters” album but with a hard rock twist.

Gone were the pyrotechnics and the crowd-surfing masses of a typical Godsmack concert. The focus turned wholly on the music for the Vibez Tour, and combined with the state-of-the-art sound system at the YouTube theater, the performance proved to be nothing short of astounding. There was no need for a grand stage presence; all six musicians, including guest guitarist Tim Theriault, were free to focus on delivering a masterclass in musicianship. Every note resonated, every riff hit hard, and the band was undeniably tight – a fact that often gets lost in the larger arena shows. YouTube theater's superb acoustics, expertly utilized by sound engineers, created an unparalleled sonic experience that no stadium concert could ever replicate.

The setlist was a journey through Godsmack's history, with old favorites seamlessly blended with newer tracks and a few surprising covers. From the reflective solo piano ballads to the electrifying hard rock anthems, Godsmack ran the gamut, showcasing their versatility and raw power. A highlight was their take on Led Zeppelin's "No Quarter," featuring an extended guitar jam between Theriault and Tony Rombola that brought the house down. Led Zeppelin themselves would have been hard pressed to match the musicianship on this cover version of the song.

Shannon Larkin's infectious energy on drums and constant grin was contagious, while Robbie Merrill held down the low end with his signature groove. Keyboardist Chris Decato, another guest for the tour, perfectly complemented Sully Erna on tracks like "Serenity" and "One Rainy Day," allowing them to breathe new life into classic rock covers like "Long Train Runnin'" by the Doobie Brothers, which was the finale of the 16 song setlist. Throughout the performance, Sully's leadership was evident, and his smiles and thumbs-ups were a testament to the seamless integration of Tim and Chris into the band's dynamic. The band even dared to perform a thundering version of “Nothing Else Matters” by Metallica.

Godsmack interspersed their own songs with personal stories and reflections on the power of music. These candid moments delved into the emotional connection music fosters, prompting the audience to consider its profound impact on our lives. A particularly poignant moment arrived with Sully Erna's heartfelt piano rendition of "Under Your Scars."  This performance was accompanied by a message of gratitude for the band's 25-year career. It was a tribute to inspirational artists like Chris Cornell and Amy Winehouse, showcasing Godsmack's reverence for their legacies.

The band's commitment to social advocacy, particularly towards mental health awareness, was woven into the fabric of the concert. Sully Erna and the entire band actively support The Scars Foundation, an organization they established to provide resources and raise awareness for those struggling with mental health. This dedication added depth to their music, showcasing their desire to make a positive impact beyond the stage.

GODSMACK kicked off its 2023 U.S. tour this past Thursday (May 4) at the 107.9 KBPI Birthday Bash at Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre in Denver, Colorado. Fan-filmed video of the concert can be seen below.

This past March, GODSMACK and STAIND announced a 25-city co-headlining 2023 tour, produced by Live Nation . The trek kicks off on July 18 at Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in St. Louis, Missouri, with stops across the U.S. before wrapping up in Austin, Texas at Germania Insurance Amphitheatre on August 31.

GODSMACK 's eighth album, "Lighting Up The Sky" , was released in February via BMG . The LP was co-produced by GODSMACK frontman Sully Erna and Andrew "Mudrock" Murdock ( AVENGED SEVENFOLD , ALICE COOPER ).

The first single from "Lighting Up The Sky" , "Surrender" , which arrived in September, marked the first release from GODSMACK in four years, following their globally acclaimed and gold-certified 2018 album "When Legends Rise" , which earned the Erna -fronted outfit a No. 1 spot across U.S. Hard Rock, Rock, and Alternative album charts.

In a recent interview with Australia's Heavy , Erna was asked if he will miss the creative process now that his band has revealed that GODSMACK 's eighth album, "Lighting Up The Sky" , will likely be its final collection of new material. Sully said: "It's such a good question because if there's one thing I've learned about life, it's that I don't know shit. You think you've got it figured out, and then just when you do, it humbles you very quickly and throws a curveball at you. So you could never say never, but right now, where I am in this time and place in my life, I feel like I've done just about everything I've ever wanted to do in music, and it's left me with a very satisfying feeling of being complete. And so I don't know what I'm gonna do after this. But I do know that music is in my blood and I always feel like I will play my piano and a guitar, and if that leads me to writing songs and I just release some stuff on my own, then so be it. But if I never did again, I can't say I have any regrets. If this all came to an end tomorrow, I would be able to call it a pretty good run and be happy."

Erna previously addressed GODSMACK 's decision to no longer release new music last fall in an interview with Pablo of the Minneapolis, Minnesota radio station 93X . Speaking about "Lighting Up The Sky" , he said: "I've never been that artist who says, 'Oh, this record is our newest record. It's our best work ever.' You can read any interview you want over my whole career, and you've never heard me say it," he continued. "I've always loved our records [and] I always knew there would be some good singles on it and hoped it did well, but I was never the guy that said, 'This is our best fucking work ever .' And I'm telling you right now this is our best fucking work ever. And it's because it's emotional, man. This is the last record we're ever gonna do. This is the last run around the mill for us. We put every single ounce of energy and emotion into this album. Especially for me, when I wrote a lot of these songs, it was about my life journey. That's really what the sequence of this album becomes about. Not that it was planned that way, but this really kind of mystical thing happened where I felt like the universe wrote this record."

The new leg will feature direct support from either Atreyu or I Prevail

Godsmack have announced a new run of 2023 North American tour dates that will follow their previously announced co-headlining summer US tour with Staind. Direct support on the new dates will be provided by either Atreyu or I Prevail , with Flat Black (featuring former Five Finger Death Punch guitarist Jason Hook) opening all dates.

Godsmack -the Iband-was fantastic as usual. I've seen them so many times.This time..after paying 264$...I got stuck behind a huge speaker and couldn't see them. I was horrified. The staff wouldn't let me change to a better seat and we weren't able to exit the row as we were literally corralled in by metal bars. I'm thinking henious Firecode violations but whatever..Pensacola Bay Arena TANKED for this show..Ive been to a gazillion concerts (1000+)and this was one of my worst. Paid all that money and it was a bust.

Where do I begin!!!!??? Seeing Godsmack has been on my bucket list, and for good reason!! They were sensational! I was on my feet, from the moment the curtain went up, till the last note played. They were everything I expected, and so much more!! I hope this first experience isn’t my last. I absolutely loved them!!!!!!

It was my first time to see Godsmack and it turned out that it was 20 years ago, that they last entered a stage in Denmark.

It was also my first time in The Grey Hall, so I was a bit exited about everything.

Franklin Zoo was support and they did a hell of a good job... Great band.

Godsmack entered the stage and they all looked like they enjoyed them selves and that quickly merged to the audience, the more the band played, the bigger a party the audience had.

The Double drumkit drum solo was magnificient and the 2 cover version "Come Together" & "Highway To Hell" was just performed perfect.

All in all this was a great concert and I will be among the audince, next time Godsmack comes to Denmark

LIV Golf isn't backing down from the PGA Tour in how it scheduled its first 4 events of 2025

LIV Golf will lean into its strategy of reaching out to global markets at the start of its 2025 season. And it will do so while also staring down its competition at the PGA Tour.

LIV Golf officials revealed Tuesady night the first four events on what’s expected to be a 14-tournament schedule for next year. The season will kick off Feb. 6-8 in the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh, with a second event the following week at The Grange Golf Club in Adelaide, Australia.

In March, the league will then compete in back-to-back weeks in Hong Kong (March 7-9) and Singapore (March 14-16).

In all four cases, LIV is returning to tournament venues where it has played in its first three seasons. The Grange stop in Australia has twice hosted tournaments and has drawn the largest crowds and best support of any LIV event since the league launched in June 2022.

“As we set our sights on 2025, LIV Golf is gearing up for our most ambitious season start, to date,” said Greg Norman, LIV Golf Commissioner and CEO, in a press release. “Since our debut in 2022, LIV Golf has played 34 tournaments in nine different countries across four continents. We are a global league with a global footprint, and we’re excited to kick off next season with four truly international events that will deliver our unique blend of elite golf, entertainment and culture to fans around the world.”

Most notable about the release of the early schedule is what events the LIV tournaments will be going up against on the PGA Tour. The opener in Saudi Arabia at Riyadh Golf Club is the same week as the PGA Tour’s WM Phoenix Open, and the event in Australia will coincide with the Genesis Invitational, the PGA Tour signature event hosted by Tiger Woods. Meanwhile, LIV’s Hong Kong spot will be played the same week as the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Singapore overlaps with the week of The Players.

Indeed, the release of the schedule, as was the case when the PGA Tour revealed its 2025 calendar earlier this summer, signals that while the two sides are in the midst of negotiations to see if they can come together form a partnership, any union of the two is still at least a year away if not more.

There are two events remaining on LIV’s 2024 schedule. LIV’s regular season concludes next week with a stop in Chicago at Bolingbrook Golf Club. A week later, LIV hosts its season-ending team championship in Dallas at Maridoe Golf Club.

Jennifer Garner showed off her treehouse-inspired kitchen in a recent home tour.

In a video for Architectural Digest , the 52-year-old Wolverine & Deadpool star gave viewers a tour of her California home, a cozy farmhouse retreat nestled in the sprawling Los Angeles hills. Thoughtfully designed by architects and interior designer duo, husband and wife Steve and Brooke Giannetti, Garner’s home is a down-to-earth haven amid the typical Hollywood glitz and glam.

At one point throughout the 11-minute video, Garner took viewers inside her “treehouse” kitchen, telling viewers: “I’m so excited to show you my kitchen because, since the day I moved in, this is the first time ever that the counter’s been clean.”

Showing off the massive countertop, she added: “Look, it’s never gonna look like this again! Please memorialize this.”

“I love a wood kitchen,” she said, noting that her favorite feature was the wooden accents. “So, the house really is like being inside a treehouse.”

The breakfast area included an unlacquered brass Garrison chandelier by The Urban Electric Co, dangling above a Foley dining table from Lucca Antiques. Meanwhile, the complementary dining chairs feature Rogers & Goffigon mohair.

“Here alone, with my kids, on a weekend, I cannot tell you how often I make something and I’m just feeding them as it comes off the stove ‘cause I’m not very good at things coming out of the oven or off the stove at the same time,” Garner told AD . She shares children Violet , 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12, with her ex-husband Ben Affleck .

When she cooks with her family, the Alias star noted that for family meals, it’s ordinarily a “have your vegetables, now have your this, now have your that” type of situation. She added: “It’s all outta order, but they don’t seem to mind.”

She continued to say that the Giannettis and designer Laura Putnam had her penchant for baking in mind when collaborating on the design.

“So, I knew when I imagined my favorite kitchen ever, in my mind, that it would have an area dedicated to baking,” Garner said. “It just makes it so much easier to have it all in one place and to know where your different flours are and your chocolate chips.”

Throughout the rest of the video, Garner enthusiastically showed off more of her home, including a chic book nook and her wholesome garden.
